Two Digital Sources for One Digital Input

    Room,
I have a Bravo D2 upconverting DVD player connected to my Panasonic projector via a DVI cable with an HDMI converter. I also have my Directv HD receiver that needs to connect to my Projector, however I only have the one HDMI input.

Does the group have any suggestions as to the best (and cheapest) way to address this dillemma.

    Cheers,
    P

I've seen component video switchers...but have yet to see HDMI or DVD-I switchers.

Dtronics makes a a DVI switch, available through Digital Connection.

OTOH, doesn't your Direct TV HD receiver have component outputs? It may less expensive to convert one or the other to component output. Is the Bravo DVI output DVI-I, which can be converted to RGB with simple adapter? Or would it require DVI-D to analog conversion? There are also some converters available which do this- Dtronics model through Digital connection, and RAM Electronics has a DVI to RGBHV (VGA) converter, though the RAM one isn't HDCP compliant. On the Bravo, that wouldn't matter.

        Mr. Marsh,

The projector does have component inputs, and I could use these from the HD Receiver. My question then would be, does this not degrade the quality of the HD signal? I thought you had to have digital cables to reporduce or transfer digital sources. However, I also thought the earth was flat.

        Thanks for the feedback,

Yes, there are DVI switchers and HDMI switchers out there, even with remote controls. About $150 if I remember right.

Pandon (welcome to the Guide, BTW) yes, to keep the signal purely digital, you have to go beyond component to DVI or HDMI.

Anyone know where to purchase DVI or HDMI switchers w/remote control?

              DVI to HDMI Cables

I have seen several from Monster Cable, Gefen and other manufacturers enabling DVI devices to connect to HDMI devices and vice versa.:

Key Digital may have one as well.

Hmm...just to clarify I'm looking for 2 or more Inputs (HDMI or DVI) - 1 Ouput (HDMI or DVI).

An actual switch not just a converter.

Right... follow the links above to Gefen, and then look under products. They have multi-input switches.
