Quick question for those who will know better than me. I was going to install the tweeter crossover board away from the other two boards, but now I am wondering if I should try to install all on the tower base. From this horrible picture (best I could do), can anyone tell me of the orientation and distance of the all the coils is acceptable? Distance between the coils is a minimum of 2.5 inches. Thanks in advance for your help!!

While I wait to determine the final crossover mounting configuration, I decided to wire everything up and make sure they output some music. Obviously this is NOT for critical listening since I don't have the ports installed and the drivers are held in place by anywhere from 2 to 3 screws and not the full alottment. This is simply a dry run to make sure everything works. I am HAPPY to report they work!!!! Might even let them run for a while to start breaking in the drivers.

Thank you. I really do enjoy my room, even more so after I completed my room remodel. Now if I can just get these speakers done, I will begin enjoying it again!

It appears if I rotate the tweeter board 90 degrees clockwise from the orientation I have pictured above, I should be fine. The coils between the woofer and tweeter boards would match the #6 option in your photo. I will have to measure the distance between the woofer and midrange coils (#5). That could be an issue... and those boards are 'glued' into place. ops: But I think there is about 3-4 inches between them. *fingers crossed*

              Thanks for your help Jim!

I wouldn't stress over a 1/2". I take this as a guide rather than an absolute must do. I've seen tests on placement and the effects are minimal if any unless you really jam the inductors together.

I have seen some tests involving the coils, and placement of screws near the coils. One test showed the metal screw didn't have a real impact on the value of the coil until the screw was placed inside the center of the coil. However, there would always be that question in my head if I didn't try to follow these rules as closely as possible. But I bet you are correct. I should be fine. Thanks again Jim.

P.S. Stop copying my cabinet designs. This looks like a blatant cabinet design rip-off. I'm calling my lawyers. I AM SOOOO JOKING!!!!!

While I am waiting for some drier weather (we had 4.5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours) so I can apply the last coat of primer, I decided to start on the center speaker stand. I had no idea what I wanted for a CC stand. I began making a few drawings. Three of four designs came to mind, but then the construction steps of how to make a few of the designs began to give me headaches. After a trip to Lowe's to see what construction materials I might find to draw inspiration from I settled on a design very similar to a CC stand I had a few years ago. Saw dust began to fly. Parts began to be sculpted and blended together. What began to take shape is pictured below. It's mostly just dry fit together at this point. But I like the way it is coming together. The base shares the same curves as the tower bases. The speaker shelf is molded to the outside curve of the CC speaker. I'm guessing I will paint it gloss black like the stands on the towers.

Last coat of primer will be applied tonight as the weather is finally cooperating. Wet sanding should happen Friday (48 hours after priming) and I think and hope this weekend the final paint will be applied. It's been a long process for painting due to the weather and other responsibilities. But I think the end is near and I should have speakers up and running within a week. *fingers crossed*

Shape of the stand goes nicely with the speaker ...... bet the stand weighs a ton all by itself with all those layers.

You know it. It might be the first time I've built a stand that weighs more than the speaker. I think the stand weighs a solid 30 pounds.

Well, the weather tried to stop the paint priming tonight, but I pushed through. High winds and rain are never good to paint when working out of a garage, but it got done. I'll wait 48 hours then do some wet sanding.

Speaking of the center channel stand, here are the pictures of the finished item. Gloss black paint. Charcoal velvet fabric on the top of the stand to protect the finish of the center channel cabinet. And the last touch, four metal pucks in the corners.

The screen is a Screen Innovations Pure Gray with LED kit. The lights can dim, be set to different colors as well as flash, blink, and dance while changing colors. I bought the screen with the LED kit but it is easy to retrofit a screen with a LED kit. I did one for my friend.

Cabinets are painted! I'm very excited with how they turn out. The cabinets just came out of the paint booth after having baked for 30 minutes at 160 degrees. Two coats of black paint with silver fleck and pearl finish. Then two coats of clear sealer They look amazing, very close to the black diamond paint I wanted. I'll try to take some close-ups of the color and of course of the finished speakers once I have the drivers installed.

Nice paint booth ..... is that yours, or did you take the speakers somewhere to get painted?

Spent a few hours today assembling everything. They are currently downstairs being broken in. So Jim we may have to start looking at dates where we can do some comparing.

It's not my paint booth, a buddy of mine does paint for for a local repair business. So it was nice to paint in a well ventilated room with high end paint equipment.

                                                    Pictures to come later tonight.

I always recommend 20 hours minimum before serious listening and more is better.

I'll be on vacation the 1st couple weeks in august and then in Chicago for the DIY event the following weekend. Hopefully, we can get together later this month. I am VERY flexible since I retired. :B

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing them.

Jim, will your statements be making the trip to Chicago? Midwest Audio Club right? If so, I would love to listen to them. I hope to follow D's curved shortened design. Would love to listen to both...

This DIY will be with the Anthology's. Yes, it is the Midwest Audio Club event that Bryan and Paul are hosting. Come listen to the Anthology's if you can. They are very close in sound quality and have the same dynamic performance as the Statements II's. If you like road trips to Iowa, I'm always up for a listening session.

I had the Statements II's at Grand Rapids and Iowa DIY last year.

Now you have to put on "live free or die hard" and go to the apartment seen with the gun fight, turn it it up to 105db and tell us if those drivers do a good dance, haha.
Funny story about those Dayton drivers. While I was breaking in the speakers last night, I had them playing at a reasonable level while I was sitting upstairs (theater is in the basement) in my office waiting for my brother-in-law to stop by. I could only hear a few bass notes every now and again from downstairs. The song Jazz Variants began to play. I heard what I thought was my brother-in-law pounding on the front door. I couldn't figure out why he was knocking instead of coming inside or usign the door bell. It wasn't loud, just a deep thud/pounding that shook the house a bit. I jumped up from my office chair and raced to the door. Nobody was there. Again, I heard the same thud/pound. I realized it was the music and thought I had forgotten to turn off the subs during breaking in. No reason to have the subs thumping away when I'm trying to break in the Statements. I went downstairs and saw the subs were turned off and all that deep bass punch was from the Statements. Those Dayton drivers were pushing out some nice deep, undistorted bass. That's the Statement sound I remember.

The cabinets received a complete layer of Bondo (automotive body filler). I use that to help create the smooth curves and transitions from one panel to another. I sanded the bondo with 80 and then 120 grit paper. At that point I painted the first layer of automotive primer. I wet sanded that primer down with 400 grit paper, which gets it nice and smooth. I filled in a few minor issues with bondo and applied the second coat of primer. Another round of wet sanding with 400 and then 800 grit. At this point the primer is nearly as smooth as glass and almost slippery to the touch.

For final paint. I used a 3M paint prep scratch pad and ever so lightly 'sanded' the cabinets. This is to make sure the primer isn't so smooth that the paint can't adhere to it. Wiped the cabinets down with clean rags with a liquid paint prep solution and then applied one coat of paint. The paint was mad form black base, small silver fleck, and a pearl finish. Two light coats were applied, then the cabinets were baked at 160 degrees for 15 minutes. I had two runs on the cabinets that needed to be taken care of so I lightly sanded those out with 200 grit paper. I applied another coat of paint, let that flash for 10 minutes, then applied a fourth and final layer. The first three coats of finish paint were sprayed at 30 psi and the gun was roughly 12 inches away from the cabinet. The fleck then lays down flat against the panel. The fourth layer the paint was shot from about 20 inches away and this allows the paint fleck to land in all different directions, so the light will reflect back from many different angles. Baked the cabinets again at 160 for 30 minutes then applied two coats of clear sealer. Baked at 160 for 30 minutes and then I let them sit over night. I could have moved them after the final baking, but the sealer was warm and I didn't want to risk leaving a mark as I loaded them into my car to take them home. Next morning the paint was hard as a rock and looked perfect! I haven't done any polishing or anything other than wiping them down with a cloth after I installed them to remove finger prints and dust.
