DIY Digital Measurement Mic, Good Idea?

Over the weekend I set about building a measurement mic using the Panasonic capsule with Siegfried Linkwitz' modification. I then got the idea to use an onboard A/D and transmit the data back to the PC by S/PDIF. I already have a Burr-Browne delta-sigma A/D on hand capable of up to 96kHz sampling. The complexity is not an issue since it's a diy project and I like to roll my own. I can't see latency being an issue and it should improve the noise floor a bit. Anyone see any reason why I shouldn't do this?
