    Vizio P Series 4k TV's!!!

Well guys I told you prices would fall fast and apparently they are falling even faster than I anticipated! Introducing the Vizio Premium Series 4k TV's starting at only 1k for the 50" and tops out at 2700 for the 70"!! These prices are spectacular as these have multizone local dimming led backlight and a 6 core video processor I mean wow the value....

If all of the 4K -- or 8K! -- talk from CES has you jonesing for a new TV, but you're short on scratch, we've got good news. Vizio has announced pricing for its P-series of Ultra HD panels and they'll sell for a lot less than you might expect. A 50-incher will run you a measly grand. Each five-inch bump in size ups the price $400, all the way up to the $2,600 70-inch set. Given that Vizio has a solid reputation, this line could be a reliable way to watch House of Cards in its native resolution without breaking the bank.

VIZIO, America’s #1 Smart TV Company1, today announced its all-new P-Series Ultra HD Full-Array LED Smart TV collection. Offering the essentials for the most complete Ultra HD solution, P-Series is the culmination of advanced picture quality, powerful performance and a beautifully simple Ultra HD experience, delivering on the features consumers seek most. With advanced local dimming technology, featuring a backlight that consists of 64 Active LED Zones, HEVC Codec for Ultra HD streaming and VIZIO’s V6 six-core processor that combines a quad-core GPU and dual-core CPU for unparalleled performance and maximum speed, VIZIO’s P-Series has been engineered to deliver the full range of Ultra HD content consumers want. The VIZIO P-Series Ultra HD Full-Array LED Smart TV collection – featuring 50”, 55”, 60”, 65”and 70” screen sizes – will be showcased at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV at the Wynn Hotel, by appointment only.

    Some more interesting info

Get full-length product reviews, the latest news, tech coverage, daily deals, and category deep dives from CNET experts worldwide.

Vizio also notes some impressive processing specs. A "motion rate of 960" might be inflated, but even so the TV should bust blur well. A quad-core GPU and dual-core CPU power image and graphics processing as well as Smart TV. A pair of dedicated engines handle upconversion, detail enhancement and gamma control, while simultaneously reducing noise and artifacts. The TV can even display games at 120 frames-per-second, and film at both 24 and 48 FPS.
I really can't believe the pricing on these....

I don't get excited about TV's until I start seeing some real reviews and specifically how well they do black levels, contrast, colour accuracy, detail motion etc.

All the fancy specs, CPU's and GPU's don't matter much to me if they can't produce an accurate and pleasing picture IMO.

Well having been a fan of Vizio's other high end offers the past few years, I don't have much doubt that this will likely be an extremely high value and quality product.

Dan Vizio sells more TV's in the states than any other mfg, I'm not sure if they are US only but they are pretty big over here.

Costco and Walmart used to carry them up here but stopped I believe due to warranty/support issues. I think they've largely been relegated to places like Tiger Direct Newegg.ca and even those I believe are refurb units.

You'd probably have to go cross border if you want a new one up here.

With this pricing it looks like 4K will be more mainstream sooner rather than later. It is a shame we don't see them in the Canadian market. I see this brand all the time when I visit the Costco in the States.

I'll be looking forward to some user reviews when available.

Hmm I'm not sure on the customer service in Canada but it's generally pretty good from what I've heard down here. I know that when the company first started getting big it was a bit hit or miss, but they've really improved in all aspects as a brand over the last 3-4 years.

Depending on how it looks up close and what video card I'd need to run it, I'd be tempted to use a 50" for a computer monitor

Now that would be a great use as a monitor! There are sub $1,000 4k monitors, but my main concern would be how big/small will text look on a 28" 4k display? Dell has announced the P2815Q at 3840 x 2160 resolution and going to retail for $699.

Now having a 50" set but pushed back a ways could be a great dual use TV/Monitor.

Yeah there are quite a few 28" 4k monitors announced at 799. Most are TN panels currently though, I'd rather have a IPS or something.

Definitely good for the industry to have someone pushing the pricing envelope. Then Samsung et al will have to answer.

I still hope plasma has a role in ultra high def. I love my current 1080p plasma. I am not a big advocate of LED lighting or LCD display in general. But I suppose it will be the way of the future..

Looks like Samsung & LG are still in on plasma:
We’ll be honest: we’ve been pretty worried about the future of plasma TV after Panasonic announced its much-mourned exit from the business late last year, but it appears that the display technology will survive for ...

One thing I'm concerned a bit about is that I haven't seen anything about HDMI 2.0 receivers so far from CES.

If you use current monitors as a gauge (I have several 24" 1920x1200 monitors) then a 50" 4K should be nearly identical in terms of dots per inch. It'd literally be the same (both size and resolution wise) as having four 1920x1080 25" monitors in a quad setup, just with no bezels

Well got an email from Amazon, the 55 and 60 in h models are in stock and the 50 and 70 inch models are available to order (3-4 weeks delivery).

Quite excited to see these in stores soon. I'll very likely be grabbing the 70" model I think. At the very least the 60" model.

Holy smokes! Just took a look. Just the E and M series are available. The P which is the 4k is 'coming soon' from Vizio's Canadian website. Hmm.

Then there is this crazy "Reference" edition. Which will come in 2 sizes, 65" and 120." It will come with a built in 5.1 sound system, 2 wireless satellite speakers and a wireless 10" sub and built in soundbar. Not too sure about that, but then again, nobody can complain about lousy built in TV speakers.

Well the reference series is going to have some crazy high end panel as well, supposed to be REAL nice, but the price is going to be large as well lol.

Well, that's a pretty amazing price for a 60" 4K set, considering what I pay for a 24" 4K monitor from Dell (which will do 60 Hz with display port MST).

But geez, my problem is I seem to have zero time to watch TV for the last year, and too many tools in the queue to buy before toys like this!

I just gave me 50" plasma to daughter, don't need it as GF bought one just like it after seeing mine. I love the picture on that Panny...

Samsclub has the 70" version of this TV on display playing an upconverted Blu-ray and I have to say I was impressed at how well up converted blu-ray looks on a 4k display! The TV looks quite good, of course not excellent because it's not setup right at all! But I'm really leaning towards grabbing the 70".

The P series is now available at BestBuy Canada and the 60" is going for just under Cdn$2,000. That's a pretty penny but about in line with other 4k sets.

I'm looking at the Samsung 55" 7000 series and they are going for around Cdn$1,700.

Is this the year I take the plunge into purchasing a new TV? Hmmm, have only been saying I'm buying a new tv for the past 5 years or so.
