      Listening & Thinking

I will be joining Club Rotel this month!
I'm going to pick up an RMB-1075 in a couple weeks, followed by the RSP-1068 in January, and the RDV-1060 in February (along with all the interconnects).

After teeter tottering on colors, I think I've finally decided on the white faces.

I am currently working on my Wattgate/Lapp/Furutech power cables and awaiting my *brandnames removed by mod as per forum rules speaker cables shipment. Hence the cable mess. Once these are all connected i will give it a good tidy.

very nice Raphie, are those KEF speakers? Very cool looking, nevertheless. I'll be joining the club so time this month also, since I decided to not upgrade my 600s B&Ws. Time to improve my components.

Rotel RB-1090, Klipsch so STUNNING combo

                    The Rotel RB-1090, RC-1090, RCD-1072, RT-1080 and
Klipsch RF-7 speakers are so STUNNING together.
The sound is amazing, very detailed, very smooth,
and a real WOW-Factor that I've yet to hear out of
anything else. I am so stunned at this combo, I ended
up buying another Rotel set of the same thing and
Klipsch speakers. The best of even the best out there
                    that I've heard!

                          Thanks Blazemaster!

Also want to second your comments on Kevin97225's setup. Probably not a good idea for me to follow his post. ;x(

Here are some more pics of the room. Sorry for the low quality shots.

I'm using B&W Sig7NTs in the ceiling. I would like to add a pair of 705s in the very back to have a complete 7.1 system. I was thinking to mount them on the wall over the fireplace.

Very nice indeed EAmin. I remember your previous posts about the Sound Anchor stands, how you liking them? I have the Center Channel Stand, also for my LCR600. Are those 703s or 704s? I like the Cradle-Style Sound Anchor stands, how much higher did the stand raise the 703/4? I'm looking for the similar stands also, when I upgrade to the 604s, but don't want them much higher than it already is.

                                I have 703s.

I'm liking the stands very much. They've improved the sound, they look good, and most of all --- I don't have to worry about the cleaning lady slammin' her vacuum cleaner right into the speaker when she cleans. The 703 stands are also cradle stands that don't raise 'em much at all. An inch, if that.

                                Hope this helps!

Sorry to hear that...most of my favorites are in the basement and it would be a great loss if I were to lose them. The only happy people would be the local used record dealers. ;-)

My AV system is in a fairly large open basement. There is only one area that is closed off with walls near the furnace and sump pump and is about 12' X 19'.
The other part of the room has basically two areas that are open to one another. Area 1 is the bar, pool table, 2 channel hi-fi system, the area is about 22' X 24' The other area is about 19' X 22' and is where the home theatre is. There's a couch that is 12 feet from the screen and front speakers.

I was curious to the idea that I could possibly use the sub woofer in both my 2 channel and A/V system. I have yet to get my sub and look at the setup instructions so I'm not sure, but can the sub be located 35 feet from the listener or does it need to be about the same distance as the front speakers, which for me would be about twelve feet?

Here's a picture taken into the 2 channel system area. A place I was possibly considering for the sub is to the left of the record rack on the far wall in the picture. It would be about 18 feet from my 2 channel listening position and about 35 feet from my A/V seating area. This is probably optimum position for my 2 channel setup, but might be too far away for A/V.

There is another area I could place the sub that is equidistant to both the 12' AV and 18' 2CH listening distances which would put in the mid-left wall of the A/V room.

I was able to download a setup manual of a well respected company that suggested to avoid corner placement and shoot more for mid wall placement for their sub so these two areas seem like a good possibility. I also have electrical outlets nearby so all I would need to do is get some really long interconnects made up the cover the long distances.

Just now looking at the REL manual they suggest corner placement.

What is more likely to happen is that I will just plop it down between the two front speakers of the A/V system and live with it for awhile soley in the A/V sytem until I learn more about it and see how it works there.

                                                  Stedman,

Your setup looks amazing! Really like what you've done with the amplifiers and the centerchannel. How's the integration of the HTM7 with the 703s (considering the fact the 703 features an FST midrange)?
Did you buy the 1075 and the 1080 simultaniously or did you drive the 703s with the 1075 for a while? Do you consider the 1075 to be a capable amplifier for the 703s? I remember reading that B&W speakers featuring the FST midrange are rather difficult to drive...

As for the 705/DS7 issue; considering your room (which doesn,'t seem to be small) I'd opt for the DS7, since they'll be able to spread the sound more (dipole), which will be desirable with surround sounds. Than again, I remember them not to be available in cherry wood finish .

                                                  Good luck!

                                                    Thanks weijst,

I have to be honest the HTM7 isn't up to the standard of the 703 FST. However I have to draw a line somewhere and the HTM1 falls the other side of it price wise. The HTM7 is still a very nice centre.

I started with the RB-1080 driving the 703s as my entire setup and bought the 1075 later. The 1080 and 703 combo is very nice. So nice I almost didnt bother going surround. The 1068 in bypass, 1080 and 703s is a beautiful way to listen to music. It took a couple of months to run in the 703s properly but it definately was worth it.

                                                            Hi Guys,

                                                            Just registered to this forum.
Nice to see there's more people around this world that have choosen for Rotel.

Just sold my Accuphase E-210 and Sony 30 ES player. Amp is replaced by a brand new RSX-1056. A good Stereo Amp will be my second purchase (RB 1090, McIntosh, Accuphase, ...) and then Projector, CD (SACD) player and DVD.

It is in huge contrast with some other pictures here in the Forum, but well, you must start somewhere. See attached file.

Congratulations. 8) I've listened to many other speakers including £1,000+ B&W ones, but my 11 year old TDLs still blow them away. (Other people here don't know what they're missing! :B ).

IMO, NOTHING below £1,000 can compare to them in terms sheer scale and presence. They handle everything you throw at them, and never lose their way.

When I bought my Rotel RMB-1075 power amp, the large B&W floorstanders that the showroom paired it with sounded dry, weedy, and the bass started to fart quite early on (70 on the volume scale). Not so with my trusty TDLs at home.

                                                                    >> Sadly TDL closed down <<
Yep. I feel your pain!

b.t.w. the TDLs have an internally folded transmission-line duct (quite unlike B&W’s inferior and simple bass-reflex port). N.B. If you want new transmission-line speakers today, I think PMC are the only ones commonly available, but they are V. expensive!

But I had seen only some adverts from PCM with Robby Williams, wich made me conclude that the quality was more like the old Jamo speakers. Lound sound, but no quality. So mutch for poor marketing strategy.

At a hifi show I finally had a chance to visit a PMC demo. Boy, was I wrong. The demo was very professional and I was amazed by the quality of these speakers. I have had two sets of transmission lines over the time, the last one beiing very big indeed. Mine were based on a IMF (the TDL forerunner) design. A huge 2.5 meters folded transmission line.

Altough PCM is very pricey, it will be on my short list next time.

In the meantime, the 1075 was replaced by a 1095, the NAD 541i CD-Player was replaced by a Marantz CD-17 MkIII and finally the Pioneer 668-AV was replaced by a Denon 3910. The former Dynaudio Audience 52 Special Edition front speakers now serve as my new rears. My new fronts are the Dynaudio Audience 72 Special Edition. I wished I had up to date pictures, but I cannot afford a digicam of my own any more since my last Rotel update :B

I'd kill to have a full 5 channel signature setup even with the s2's! Do you plan on upgrading your center and surrounds to signature units? Last but not least, how does the timbre of the signatures blend with the studios in multichannel listening?

The S4's are extremely awesome. I just got Ryan Adams' Rock N Roll SACD, and although I can only run 2-channel SACD, the sound was really an improvement over redbook CD. They are amazing speakers.

As for multi channel DTS/DD, it is very nice, although as far as the soundstage is concerned I think having the speaker on top of the TV hurts me more than not having the C3 or the C5.

I would love to upgrade to the Signature series all the way around, but I think first the Pre-Pro needs to be upgraded to a multi-channel analog model, and then the TV will probably go to a Plasma so I can have room to put the center channel in the same horizontal plane as the left and right.

Then again, the new Crestron TPMC-10 looks nice too.....
