    More TT questions

Which would you folks recommend when listening to 2-channel music?
    I've tried Stereo2, Direct, and Left/Right.

I think the Lf/Rt sounds the best, but it seems to kill the bass a little....direct same thing. Stereo 2 sounds good, but it seems to be equalized less optimally than the other two for high and mid (no lack of bass, however)

Direct. Everything else processes the signal.

How to get bass? I couldn't help notice that the Sub got no signal when direct is used. The DefTechs are crossed over in such a way that they sound like crap when that sub isn't picking up the slack.

          Mannye,

You can get subwoofer output, but at a cost

Stereo 2 should get you the subwoofer output, by digitizing the signal, applying the crossover and outputting a 2.1 signal (stereo + mono sub).

You can tell that the signal is being digitized as both the Analog and the 24/96 indicators will be on.

          Regards,

I'm lucky. My main speakers have built-in subs so when I use Direct for 2-channel music the sub signal is directed to the mains and I get the bass.

                Well,

I stumbled upon the answer! My speakers (DefTech Bp2002s) have several options as far as hookup goes and I was set up in the traditional HT way, with the subs getting a full range signal from the pre.

I simply removed the RCA cable that went to the full range and plugged it onto the LFE channel, then replaced the jumpers to the low-range posts...VIOLA! Super low LFE when watching DVD movies, full range when listening to music!

This will become moot when I get my horn speakers and move the TT to the tube stereo area, but a good solution for now and a fun way to break in the TT while I wait too!

It depends. The dacs in the Ref are good ones and most likely better than say a dvd player. If you have a high end dac or hot rod cd player then direct using the rca inputs is correct. I suggest trying both to anyone. If your using digital outs and ins then most likely stereo 2 will be the best for 2 channel listening this way your sub is still in the mix as well.

                    Phyre,

The source is a turntable, which kind of makes the DAC moot. I do agree with you, however, and whenever 2-channel comes from the DVD or the CD I listen in stereo 2 mode....

Sorry I didn't know the source was analog.
