    New release for AV32R

We've just released V3.2 which includes, as promised, PLII support for DD2.0 signals (amongst other things). It's available for free download now.
There is also an interesting article on balanced interfaces in the owners club section.

Where will the upgrades for the balanced connection be done?

No idea, probably late fall or so. Do you really need it?

        Buzz,
The above question was "where" but, its nice to know it's not that far off for the upgrade.

I'm looking forward to the balanced output upgrade on the AV32R-EX (192). Since I have balanced inputs on my Cinepro Amps. My feeling on most of the electronic gear that I buy is why not make it as good as possible.

The spec on the Cinepro is
Input impedance 30K RCA Unbalanced/15K XLR Balanced

Lowering the noise floor due to better grouding may be something that I may never notice but, I won't know until I try it. The Cinepro Amps have a ground lift switch that I use. It does provide a noticable noise reduction.

I had talked to Eric the president of Cinepro last week and mentioned that I had purchased the TM AV32R-EX. He had said that he had talked to many people in the last few weeks that also mentioned the TM pre/pro. He said he may give you a call to evaluate the AV32R-EX.

        Anyway, thanks for the reply!

Cool, didn't think this would come so soon (was getting a bit annoying switching to PCM to get DPL2 out of my Dolby Surround DVDs). Off to download.

It's intresting on the mention of the possibility of the surround calibration levels being to low on v3.11.211. I re-calibrated the HT this very afternoon and noticed something different in the rears, I shall re-calibrate again with this version.

Done. Rear speaker levels were actually fine, it must have been me. Bit odd how DPLII on DD2.0 stuff will still show up as 2.0 channels on the LCD pannel, still, it works nevertheless. :-)

Rick, don't be fooled. The advantages gained by balanced inputs and outputs aren't necessarily anything. Fact is, many balance cables are actually made cheaper, at least the connectors than cables such as my Silvercates.

The primary advantages of Balanced I/O is for VERY long runs where electrical interferance is a real strong issue, as in runs of 75 feet or longer. Not many of us run anything that long. Should I get a pre-pro with balanced? I would likely continue to use Silvercats without Balanced connectors.

But if your bent, I may at some point add balanced connectors as an option for Silvercats.

The Icons will indicate the incoming bitstream content flag when you input DD or DTS so it is showing you that you are getting a 2.0 stream. The text on the display will then indicate the post processing (like PLII or THX).

Ok, scratch what I said about the balanced. After installing my first set of Nuetrik connectors, I can see that they could be good. Of course, my amp mail connector isn't gold, but I guess that's not a big thing.

Anyway, if anyone does decide to go balanced, Silvercats are now available in balanced.

Buzz, thanks for the info on the upgrade...

                          Lex,

The HDCD code is given to Tag customers when they pay for the upgrades available. I got the code and am very happy with HDCD's now! Some of the HDCD sound better than the DVD-A disks that I have.

Buzz, why the hell would one need a digital volume control!! Anyway, thanks to John at Tag we all now know the very slightest tick on the digital volume control of any CD players that have this feature will not pass the HDCD bits. Also, happy that Tag has asked me to join their beta testers for future software releases.
