Looking really good Steve! I assume this is going to be insulated, but will it be heated as well?- Danny- Bottom

As far as heat goes, the plan is to have a mini split system that will cool and heat. I don't think I'll be able to swing it for a while thanks to county requirements that have sucked up an additional roughly $12K of funds that forced me to do things in a different fashion.- Bottom

As much as I would like to, along with the intended mini-split system, funds are not going to permit it. With the cost increases due to the counties restrictions and subsequent build changes, at this point I hope I have enough to get electrical installed.- Bottom

My thoughts at the moment are to have a company come out and run the feed to the shop, I'm thinking a 100 A sub panel. I don't know at this point if the feed to the house has enough capacity to handle the 200 A service to the house, plus the 100 A sub panel to the shop, or a separate line needs to be run directly to the shop. That's something I just don't want to mess with.
As far as running circuits inside the shop, I may do that myself .... my neighbor has offered his services (is an electrician) to help out. Most of those runs will be surface mounted ..... pole barn construction is not ideal for running wiring inside the walls.- Bottom

Sounds like your process is the same as Missouri's was back in the mid 80's. Getting 100A to his shop while maintaining the existing 200A to the house required him to upgrade his service to "commercial" or otherwise go with two meters. As you allude to this entailed a larger feed from the street and a larger meter box on the side of the house.
I spent a lot of that summer back from college wiring the house and the shop. Good times but it saves a lot of $$$
I do wish I had that large, dedicated shop now though- Bottom

Once again my former Imperial informants come through... far more reliable than ex-KGB.
The main door appears to be installed, though whether it is fully operational is yet to be determined...
Of course, for security and fast access, a functional "man door" is a mandatory requirement, not an optional accessory...
Naturally, it is only fair that we address your concerns about the state of interior completion- while electricals are yet to be initiated, insulate and the ceiling appear to have been completed on time...

Was just thinking, that with the windows, Steve can also get a window AC to keep the shop cool with the swamp weather we get over here in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia). With the insulation in place it can stay cool and get a heater for the winter.
I'm anxiously waiting to see what the sign will look like for the shop too. Will Steve go metal, wood, combo... Decisions, decisions, decisions...Painter in training- Bottom

Well things have rather busy, though some of it has been in the realm of one step forward, 3 steps back!
Final grading was completed on Wednesday.
These are during the process, though things did not change substantially once finished. Of course this has created days of additional work with gardening tools to get cleaned up and then of course it needs to be seeded with grass.
Also confirmed I have a nice low spot on the right front area of the shop that collects water. I'll need to install a catch bin and drain line to deal with that.
One can also see from the last picture I had a load of OSB sheathing delivered. This is to cover the inside walls rather than going with metal. The idea is to make it easier to mount "stuff" where ever I need it.👍 1- Bottom

Still in the initial phases. I talked with neighbor a couple of days ago and he brought me some info on a couple of local licensed companies that he recommends. Will call them Monday and see what I can set up. My neighbor is an electrician, but not licensed in our county. Turns out in MD, you have to be licensed in the state, county and township. Kind of crazy.
I also have to finish hanging panels on the walls before inside wiring can start, though I'm going to try and get the outside stuff done as soon as I can.- Bottom

Looks like the kind of effort that, if you haven't done it before, it's hard to fully anticipate all the steps and actions that will be required, as the process develops.the AudioWorx

Well it's been a little while since I updated, but things are moving along, be it slowly!
I've been having issues getting electricians lined up and at a reasonable price to get the work done. I'm hopeful the company coming out Monday, will be able to get things done.
In the meanwhile, that large pile of OSB has now up on the walls and I have positioned my major tools where they will go to determine electrical runs.

Picked up some stuff for lumber storage.

And for a little something extra we have a fence going in for our dog on Monday.

When I first saw the post I thought it was the internet connection at the hotel in Germany. It has been a very slow experience 😢, but the office has fast internet thankfully and seeing Steve Manning comment it confirmed that the internet was slow and the photos never made it.
Great to see the progress and the big parts in place. Are you doing any additional lighting for the painting or that curtain slide thing you had lick a hospital room? Looking forward to the opening and coming up to visit.Painter in training- Bottom

As for the lighting ..... I have hung 6 LED light fixtures at 14,000 lumens each. The company claims that ought to do the trick!
The spray area will be the curtain thing I did in the last shop. Though this time I shouldn't have to move anything around to set it up.- Bottom

So after more than 2 months of phone calls, waiting, additional permits, etc, etc ...... the electrical is finally going in!
A crew of 5 guys descended on the house early this morning.
The guy digging the trench to run the power conduit, ran into a very large granite boulder. This is some of the stone he had to break off with a pick axe to get the trench deep enough.
Glad it was him doing that and not me!
Where the power feeds into the shop.
Round 2 is tomorrow.
