    Power Conditioner/Voltage Regulator

Hi there everyone! I recently had my stuff moved out of storage from another province to the province I moved to three years ago, it's so nice to have my stereo back. I've got a quick question about my power conditioner. At my old place the power coming in was pretty stable at 120V, every once in a while the RCL-1040 would boost the voltage when the incoming voltage sagged a bit. Now in my new place, the power coming in is around 126V. There are three settings for the voltage regulator; wide, normal, and narrow. When I set it to "narrow" it trims the voltage down to 116V, when it's set to "normal" it leaves it at 126V. So my main question here is what is better for my gear? 126V or 116V?

    • Narrow AVR Range: 102-132 Volts,
    Regulates to: 120 Volts +/- 5% (114V-126V)
    • Normal AVR Range: 97-139 Volts,
    Regulates to: 120 Volts +/- 10% (108V-132V)
    • Wide AVR Range: 92-145 Volts,
    Regulates to: 120 Volts +/- 15% (102-138)

So on the narrow range the 126v is right at the regulating range, so it will apply a cut. The normal range wouldn't start doing anything until it get to 132v or so. Unlike one with a battery, it can't hit exact voltages with regulating.

From my experience, under-voltage is worse then over-voltage, but we're not talking a problem either way at these voltages. Assuming 126v is the 'normal' voltage, leaving it on narrow will cause it to cycle in and out anytime it drops below that. Setting it to normal will keep you safe and still leave some room when it does go extremely high.

Thanks for the info. So would the RLC-1080 (I think that's it's model number) give me a better/more stable output voltage?

my experiance along with that of the few others whose experiance & knowledge i trust is that the tighter you can regulate the voltage (power) the better.
your absolute target would be that voltage which the device(s) were designed to run at.
fluctuations in power will and do cause changes to the sound.

Is it bad that this thing can't decide whether to trim the voltage or not? It keeps switching on and lowering it to 116V and switching off and leaving it at 124V. Probably every 15-30 mins.

It does this when it's set to "narrow"
