      HD conversion by 06?

I heard that all TV was supposed to be converted to HD by 2006. Is that true? And if it is, do you think that they are actually going to be able to do it? The cost of a HD camera is almost double the cost of a regular camera. These small stations might not be able to afford it? Just wondering.

Sorry Snap, just saw your comment now.... ops:

Technically the conversion to HDTV was supposed to have already happened  With netowrks, service providers and studios collectively dragging their feet the process has been considerably and unfortunately slowed. Thankfully service providers are starting to get it together, bigger networks ares starting to pick it up (though the little guys will struggle and may get swallowed in the conversion process). Studios are still waiting for seemingly never-good-enough-for-them copy protection before fully diving in. (See down-ressing on BluRay/HD-DVD for more on the studios  )

Otherwise, pressure your local senators and what not to speed the conversion process and while your at it make sure they know you want to retain your fair rights of use with digital media recording and how angry the word "down-res" makes you

I posted in the original thread but though I'd add it here as well

I found, scanned and hosted the list

I brought the article in and scanned it on our MUCH better equipment at work. I've also added the comparison shots of bobbed vs. full resolution from the article. (Keep in mind these are scanned images but I think they still get the point across)

I have enjoyed the stronger HDTV content on DirecTV the last year. All major networks are all HD anymore, along with a lot of other channels. Even DIY Network went HD finally in 2012. HGTV was already HDTV.

Maybe this is just such a given now, nobody wants to discuss it, if not we will close this thread soon or unstick it anyway.

Well, unfortunately, there's still a LOT of SD material on TV today, whether it's OTA, or cable/sat. Sometimes, the SD quality is so poor enough (or what used to be average) that it's embarrassing compared to the next channel in HD.

Recently switched from DirecTV to Dish. On both, there's some channels that are still only SD, and some HD channels that we don't get up in here Alaska because of satellites.

HD is really looking good, more and more. Wish they'd be able to go to 1080p or higher.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
