    http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pa

For the past few months the back button on my browser is virtually useless when using the HTG web site because my browser history is cluttered with multiple http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pa entries. HTG is the only web site where this happens to me. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    Nigel.

This is in the code for the HT-Guide http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js

It's a standard 'call' to load the google ads used on virtually every major forum. All it does is load the little ads seen at the bottom of the page.

    What browser are you using?

Using either IE6, Firefox, Safari, or Chrome I can't replicate the problem you're having, nor has anyone else posted such a complaint. So it seems the issue is specific to your browser installation and or it's settings.

You might try deleting your cookies and cleaning out the cache on your browser. If that doesn't work look at the security settings and perhaps install the latest version of Java.

I'm not entirely sure I understand. Your browser is useless because your history is cluttered?

I had that happen when I was using a custom hosts file. If you block the ad sites from loading, a failed load will appear in the 'back' history (one for every ad). If it loads the ad fine, the ad is transparent.

Say you're on page 1 and go to page 2. If there were three ad's that the browser couldn't load your 'back' history will now have:

        Page 1

        Page 2

Hitting the back button takes you to the first google ad, which fails to load, so you get a 'click' but the page doesn't change. Hitting it twice more gets the same result. Hitting it the fourth time will take you back to page 1.

If you have a modified hosts file, remove the entries for googlesyndication.com if you want to enjoy this site. You will have to see the ad's that help fund it though.

If not, you might have DNS or ISP issues.

Thank you guys. That's given me something to work on.

          Thomas, I'm using IE6.
