Woo hoo! New TTP!

I changed the thread title to uppercase to be consistent with the other TTPs.

I'll update the statistics tonight or tomorrow, whenever time permits and I'm at home (I can't access the database from work).

I'll close and unsticky the prior TTP if it hasn't already been done, and in a few days, move it to the archive. Oops, looks like it's already closed and unstickied. :)

· Two whole tomatoes

· A half-head of lettuce

· 12 slices of American cheese

· A full cup of peppers

· Two entire onions

· Plus, a river of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard.

Bam,
You asked:
hey Shane....I noticed your thread on your 2 channel setup over at HT Talk.... The one in your office......so where are you at with that ?
Still deciding. I'm leaning towards NAD or Cambridge audio for a Integrated, using my existing Sony 7ES CDP for a transport and trying out an external dac. Then decide on speakers. I'm not sure yet on those yet. There is a nice deal on some Energy Veritas(the lowest one) but I may got another route. I have not decided yet. It's still a work in progress. I have other upgrades in my main theater that need to be taken care of. I'm trying to work with a guy for his SVS and see if I can go pick it up since its a short drive. If I work that out, then my lack of subbass(for the last few months) problem will go away. I'm leaning towards this PB2+ used. I wanted one new anyway....

I'm bacherloring it all week so I'm thinking about Pork Chops or something tonight. I have no idea. I'll wing it.

Shane!

I love 2 channel sound as you know....I think you know....do you ? :p:

Anyways I was gonna reply at Ht Talk.....but I found that there was not much point as for me.....it's all about sound...

So when someone says they are looking for Analytical sounstaging...I think French right away...anyways if you can tell me what type of sound you are lookin' for I might be able to make some suggs.

Anyways.....I wouldn' t go with Cambridge for 2 channel....just my opinion ofcourse...It sounds dry.....lack of dimension in sounstaging....Instruments sound fat.....no feeling what so ever....ANyways just my 2 cents!

Bam,
So when someone says they are looking for Analytical sounstaging...I think French right away...anyways if you can tell me what type of sound you are lookin' for I might be able to make some suggs.

I'm not looking for analytical at all(Krell and JMLabs). No brightness at all(like Paradigms seem to me). No forwardness or aggressiveness like B&W's are(to me). I just want an intergrated that has a possibility of a phono input in case I want to scratch that itch that I've been having. Upgrading CDP's is just not in the cards but I want to fool around with a dac(like the Scott Nixon dac or something along those lines).

Thanks for the thoughts on Cambridge. If indeed they are very analytical(Thiel sounding...), then that would not be what I'd want. I don't have a Cambridge dealer near me anyway. I do have an NAD one.. and I've been thinking about one of their HT recievers..

If your gonna wing it, then Hooters is the place there Shane. lol. Have you considered Sonus faber speakers? They are pretty much to a tee what you described you want I think.

Lex

Shane Martin
08-02-2004, 06:25 PM
Lex,
That's a possibility but my budget is pretty constrained. I don't think a set of SF bookshelves will be affordable enough. I'm talking 5-600 max for a set.

Bam!

Doug! what about MY question :D :D :D :W :W :W :p:

Lex
08-02-2004, 07:25 PM
IF you could scrape 1K, you might well get into a pair of Concertos. 500-600=Concertinos. Tinos are pretty good, just not quite as full sounding as the Concertos. AS the original concert series gets older, who knows what you might find. Keep an eye out.

Bam, I'm not going to tell you bridges will make a difference unless you've got some dental gaps. It might make an ever so small difference reducing vibration, but I think if any, it will be nominal. The biggest difference is cool factor. However, just because I haven't to date bought into the bridges, doesn't mean they can't make a difference. I'd like to at least leave the possibility there to maybe explore some day.

Lex

Andrew Pratt
08-02-2004, 07:35 PM
Actually I think the lowest SF's would be in your ball park price point I think..check Audiogon for Concertino's (I think that's the name of the smaller ones)

Lex
08-02-2004, 09:13 PM
Concertinos aren't worth over 500 without stands, as they only retail for 1000 US $.

That is the correct name.

Bing,
Yes that antennae is very real. It's an indoor job. I may try one just to avoid going into the attic.

Regarding all you can eat: There is a steak place in Amarillo Texas. If you eat it all in one sitting it's free. The steak is a 72 oz Top sirloin. You also have to eat a baked potato which is huge, salad, shrimp cocktail and a roll. If you don't eat it, it will run you $50.

http://www.bigtexan.com/72oz.htmlI think this place, or one like it, was shown in the movie Waking Up In Reno. In any case, one of the characters (played by Billy Bob Thornton) in the movie takes up the challenge, eats the 72 oz. steak, gets it free, and then winds up in the hospital.

I can't imagine how *anybody* could eat that much in one sitting. Heck I have trouble eating an 8 oz. burger with bun and toppings in one sitting.

There's a Fish and Chips place in England near my cousins that has a monster dinner like that. The plate was a large turkey platter with the fish hanging off both ends, a huge pile of fries, peas and a dinner role if I remember right. You still pay for it but if you finish you get a free dessert, a mug, a certificate and you go on their wall of fame...and yes I'm on that wall :eating:

Good Morning Guys!!

This was cute..
A Fairy told a married couple, "For being such an exemplary
married couple for 35 years, I will give you each a wish"
"I want to travel around the world with my
dearest husband" said the wife.

And the fairy moved her magic stick and
abracadabra! Two tickets appeared in her hands.

Now it was the husbands turn. He thought for a
moment and said, "Well this moment is very romantic,
but an opportunity like this only occurs once in a
lifetime. So... I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to
have a wife 30 years younger than me".

The wife was deeply disappointed but, a wish was
a wish.

The Fairy made a circle with her magic stick
and.......abracadabra!...suddenly the husband was
90 years old.

Lesson:
Men might be rotten and selfish and inconsiderate...

But, Fairies are...................Female

The biggest meal I've eaten in one sitting was a 24 oz bone-in Ribeye from Old Sanfranscisco steak house in Dallas, Tx.

Happy Aniversary Andrew!!! :T

Sorry Bing, I don't know the place, that's way too much food for me man! :E I tend to eat more often but small-medium sized meals in a day which is better for ya anyways... and I'm far from a wussy geek Shane  but when you eat smaller meals more often your stomach tends to be smaller as it doesn't get stretched out by large meals. I have a protein shake in the morning before work, then a mix of yogurt, apple sauce and Quaker Harvest Crunch cereal at about 10:00-10:30, lunch at about 1:00 is usually soup or something like a turkey sandwich sometimes with some veggies or a salad, then a granola bar and green tea at about 3:30 and a small dinner when I get home, occasionally a snack later in the evening :)

So I finally got the DVE disc I ordered from Deep Discount...Canadian Gov't charge me $8 extra duty on a $16US DVD!!!! :M That'll be the last time I do that  I suppose I still saved about $5 from what I saw it for up here but what a PIA and not even close to the $15 I figured I'd be saving not to mention it took nearly three weeks to get here  Stupid Gov't :F

Here's one that is funny.
At first it went over my head, but I get it now.
Hope it doesn't offend anyone..If it does we will
just blame Bing...
:frypan:

As the airliner pushed back from the gate, the flight attendant gave the
passengers the usual information regarding seat belts, etc. Finally, she
said, "Now sit back and enjoy your trip while your captain, Judith Campbell
and crew take you safely to your destination."

Joe sitting in the eighth row was stunned. When the attendants came by with
the drink cart, he said: "Did I understand you right? Is the captain a
woman?"

"Yes," said the attendant, "in fact, this entire crew is female."

"My God," said Joe, "I'd better have two scotch and sodas. I don't know
what to think of all those women up there in the cockpit."

"That's another thing sir," said the attendant, "We no longer call it the
cock pit. Now it's the box office."

Nice liner Trev!

Well I'm not having much luck with my Dell...done several format reinstalls only to have errors pop up and shut it down. I was getting a fairly consistant error that seemed to point to a driver issue or memory but now its a new one so I guess I'll call Dell when I get home and talk to another "tech" that barely speaks English  Honestly if I didn't know what they were talking about before they said it I'd be lost. She had me run a chkdsk on my drive so she tried to spell it out for me but honeslty I barely caught have the letters she said with her accent...I'm all for saving money but there comes a point when you need to look at the whole picture :M

Pr@, what errors are you getting on the Dell? At what point during the install? Are you using the Dell restore CD, or a MS XP CD?

Do you have a floppy drive on the Dell? You should go here http://www.memtest86.com/ and download Memtest86. It creates a bootable floppy. Boot off it and run the memory tests. If you're having memory issues it'll find them. You could try popping the DIMM cover off the bottom and reseat the DIMMs.

Thanks Trevor. Hey, where's Gregor? Hope he's not having a bad time of it. RickS? Everyone? Anyone?

I go through this cycle now and again, dreaming of a Shelby, well, I am dreaming again as a result of looking on Ebay for parts. Only dreams though. I am considering, making it a priority, to save every nickel raised through my business until I can buy one using my Mach as trade in and pay cash. Hey, it's a dream. Actually, I'd like to keep my Mach too. :) I really should have been rich.

Anyway, I'll continue fixing my Mach up just in case someday it becomes a reality, and the nicer my car is, the more I would get out of it if I did trade. That would be hard to do though since I have owned it since 91.

Trevor, the Mustang is a pretty nice car for the age. It's not perfect by any means, but it's decent. I've upgraded enough things on it to new parts to help it to look pretty darn good.

I want to renew the upholstery someday, but for now, the door panels are the worst looking part along with this tray on the console and my steering wheel and clock. All those things are being replaced as soon as I can get time to work on it. With an old car, it's always something. lol.

I Want to turn my attention to under the hood soon, it needs a lot of dress up work under there.

Doug you've gone nuts!

Well I found out that one of my memory sticks doesn't work anymore...strang that the BIOS tripped over it when I pulled it reporting that the memory was now a different amount but it can't POST of that single stick. Dells sending me a replacement this week but even with the "good" stick it BSOD'd on me again doing windows updates so I think its more then just the memory...at this point I'm leaning towards the mobo...several weeks at the temps it was running at can't have been good to it. gone? I've always been nuts. Sorry, just am. :) Actually, I was the only bidder on the 56 chevy car, and BMW clock, so they weren't to bad priced, in fact, I think I was the only bidder on the horse too, as they had 5. I admit, I paid to much for the white one before I found them on ebay. It's all ok though, business has been good, so it's no problem. that drag car at the top did cost me. Shipping was a nightmare on it, probably a rip off but we'll see how it's packaged when it comes. It is a pretty extensive piece. I paid 113.50 for it plus shipping.

Oh, here's that pic of my Stang motor Trev.

With so many people on here having (or dreaming of) fast cars, it seems odd to me that I'm the only one here with a Valentine 1, and I'm driving a freakin' Saturn. :)

Sounds like motherboard there Pr@. Is the machine still under warranty? I would guess it is if they just changed out the CPU under warranty.

My Dell Inspiron 4100 has been a wonderfully reliable machine. Of course it's only about 1/3rd the speed of Pr@'s.

I would bet most of us drive the speed limit. Then again I can drive 70mph on the freeway legally here and go 80 legally on the interstate. I have no need to go faster than that.

I guess the company that builds those built one or 2 for the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds". That is the Nick Cage version.

I would bet most of us drive the speed limit. Then again I can drive 70mph on the freeway legally here and go 80 legally on the interstate. I have no need to go faster than that.Consider yourself lucky. In the northeast the interstate speed limits range from 55 to 65, though most people still go 70-80. In many areas speeding tickets aren't being issued for safety reasons, it's in order to raise revenue, hence the speed limits that are lower than the maximum safe speed, and cops hiding over hills waiting to nab their next victim.

And I doubt that Doug with his M3, or Trev in his Corvette are always driving the limit. After all, I'm often technically "speeding" in my Saturn, though it's rarely more than 5-10 over, and certainly not dangerously.

Hence the reason I have a V1. The other reason being, that I'm a gadget freak and techno geek! :B

In a lot of places, if you drive the limit, you get passed by everyone on the road.

Andrew Pratt
08-04-2004, 10:43 AM

Shane, actually, I think they built something like 7 or 8 cars for Gone in 60 sec II. They were all pretty much just Mustangs, you know special effects and all. :)

This car was rebuilt frame off resto to reclassify it as a new car apparently.

Andrew, it's feel, not fell. :) you feel a booby, ou fell out of your chair for example.

Wham Bam.

It is really easy to get above the limit in a hurry when it's posted 50 or below. Cruising 70, it is easier to control. Not easy at all to control when it's posted 50 though, Invariably I look down and I am doing 60 at least.

I've always had a soft spot for the DeLorean. It was well ahead of it's time.

I think Discovery had a show dedicated to the Elanors created for Gone in 60 secs. It was pretty cool. They had quite a crew of professionals come in to do the cars.

Highway driving....I just set the cruise, much easier less headache and no worry. Hell, I can't wait for autopilot, I know I probably (since Manitobans apparantly only live to an average of 74 years  ) won't see it in my lifetime even though GM and Ford have a test track with sensors and the cars actually drive on autpilot. The advantage is that they can drive very close to each other at a high speed and it's all computer controlled. It exists today but I'm sure it's a good 50 years away from public acceptance and being truely safe.

No sense stealthing a detector....the detector detectors will give you up.

Joshua Tree is my favorite U2 album too... Where The Streets Have No Name is my favorite song by them.

Most of the time when I see an idiot driving like a maniac it's a kid, usually in an older car, or one of those fugly ricers. Around here the SUV/van drivers tend to be more reasonable.

I picked up a new toy today:
http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US/images/products/5553/5553402cv1a.jpg

This will make it easier to transfer stuff between my laptop and desktop at work, and for when I'm working on customers' computers and need to transfer data... no need to burn CDs for one time use.

The Valentine 1 isn't detectable by the VG-2 detector detectors. The newer Spectre supposedly can detect it, but I don't know how widely used they are. But since detectors are legal everywhere I drive, it's not an issue.

Are laser detectors illegal in Canada? I don't know of anyone who makes just a laser detector though. Nor do I know how widely used laser is in Canada. It's becoming more popular in the states since it's hard to detect.

Detectors are only legal (for use) in Alberta, BC, and Sask.

http://www.radar-detectors.us.com/usa-canada.htm

I knew about Alberta but was surprised to see BC and Sask.

You can buy them, you just can't use them....which is really stupid, it's a dumb contradiction really...

I heard about Linux new laoptop on the radio, going to be a comcrap from HP, just about 60 bucks cheaper than a Winblows machine. Of course, Linux people like Linux for Linux. regardless of cost.

lex

Andrew Pratt
08-04-2004, 03:11 PM
Yeah $60 doesn't seem like much of a savings considering what you pay for XP...but remember that the linux comes with OpenOffice and the CD buring software so there's those savings as well.

Lex
08-04-2004, 03:14 PM
I'm not pro or against Linux, if anything I am for it, but practically speaking, it doesn't make a lot of sense for most users to buy Linux at this stage. I see it as a developer's platform with Windows emulation.

While the Boss 302 and 429 are awesome performance cars, I was never a big fan of their trim appointments. (Ok, except big 429 scoop)

It's ok that your not a Stang fan Gordon, to each their own, and I admittedly do like a LOT of the old cars with a particular soft spot for Olds 442's, it's just I can't own them all, and if given a choice, the ultimate is still a 68 Shelby GT500. I own the Mustang because it's what my X wife wanted us to get, a Stang. So, we kept an eye out on the local papers for months, and finally came across the Mach I for 3750.00. In today's terms, a real steal. Even after my total investment to date, it's still not bad for the car. Of course, I have kept it a long long time.

My desk is sparkly clean.....not a customer in sight....everything is done....I need action! That's what I call quality surfing time! ;)

Just got off the phone with Dell. At first I called their out of warranty repair dept. and they wanted over $200 to ship the laptop out, replace the keyboard and ship it back, then they offered option B, which is for me to replace the keyboard myself, so they transferred me to parts, and got a keyboard ordered for $32 including shipping.

Why spend 200 bucks and be without the machine for a week when I'm sure I can swap the thing out in 10 minutes.

In the meantime I can still use the machine. The T key pops off occasionally while typing, but it's still usable.

Well I've gone and done it...not sure if its a wise move or not but what the heck its a relatively cheap "upgrade" and should keep me busy for awhile...besides its going to look nice stacked on top of the 300 disc CD jukebox below...just like Dougs rack :yesnod: It also gives me a SACD deck to try :B

MP3 Playback : Playing MP3 Music on a Sony DVD player is easy. Just insert an MP3 encoded disc and press MENU. A blue screen pops up to Display your folders. Scroll down the list using the remote or front panel cursor control to select the folder you want. The green files screen pops up to show the files in the selected folder. Select the file you want to hear and you're done. Finding music couldn't be easier.

Precision Cinema Progressive(TM) Technology : Other DVD players detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source-whether film or video-because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

Precision Drive(TM) 2 System : Past generations of Precision Drive were only able to compensate for warped discs by moving the entire optical block, which took more time and limited the amount of correction possible. Sony's new Precision Drive(TM) 2 system simplifies the process by moving the lens-instead of the entire optical block-for faster and more accurate error correction.

Simply put convienience and it gives me a place to store my DVD's that I backup :W It also gives me a digital coax output so I can finally use the CatCables digital coax I have sitting in a box and i'll likely end up adding a single disk unit later on for rentals and to act as a transport for CD's etc. I'd like to add a Sony 7700 that I used to own as it was an awesome transport and they're cheap on audiogon etc.

"WASHINGTON (AP) - President George W. Bush offered up a new entry for his catalogue of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417-billion defence spending bill.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted. "

Oops

Cool on the jukebox Pr@, but you didn't get the ES model? You'll enjoy it though and it does SACD which is cool. Too bad Sony doesn't do DVD-A though.

My only gripe with the Sony DVD jukeboxes is they aren't as user friendly as the CD jukeboxes. For example, on the CD players, you can pick a disc on the remote by hitting Disc, and then the digits and Enter, and it goes straight to the disc. On the DVD players, you have to navigate through the menus to select a disc. You can still do it by number, but it's clunkier and more difficult to do with a macro.

My friend has a 300 disc Sony and another glitch it has is, if a disc is loaded and the power goes out, it doesn't always return the disc to the same slot it was in originally. Say you put a rental disc in the EZ Play slot, and there is a power outage. Suddenly the rental disc is placed in another, random slot and you have to search for it. I wonder if they fixed that on the new models.
