Hello sports fans, what's up? Been to the olympics here. Saw some swimming mostly. Worked on my Mustang too after some other work this afternoon, mowing that sort of thing. No business right now, so just taking some time to work on my classic car.

Sounds like fun Bam!

Been home alone today myself as G's working today and won't be home till late. Loaded in my DVD's and got the pronto working for the most part. The IR window on the DVD player isn't nearly as good as the one they used on the CD version so i have to be pretty close before it'll pick up the signals properly...oh well can't do everything perfect:) So far the image quality looks great on the Wega...haven't tried the PJ yet which is where I'll really notice it.

Bought a 512 meg CF card for my Digicam today at Best Buy as they're on sale for a good price. I can now shoot 300+ photo's or nearly 6 minutes worth of DVD quality video:T

Just finished b-day shopping for Jazz, have to exchange a brown cardigan jacket she wanted as I got the wrong size according to Tasha (Darn girl clothes all look so small to me  ) and a white gold bracelet to match the white gold and diamond earings/necklace I got her a couple years ago. Tasha "got" her a foot massager. (I love how kids get to pick something and I pay for it and they get to say it's from them   JK! :B )

This evening I'm going to my parents for my b-day dinner. My mom's making curried beef (got the recipe from an indian aunt of hers) and Jazz is making roti now to go with it :P Then flapper pie for desert! :B Bam, click here (http://www.recipesource.com/ethnic/americas/canadian/00/rec0038.html) for a flapper pie recipe. Howdy Chris, no rest for the "wicked" eh? :)

Hey Bing that thermaltake has got me thinking...

I picked up a Panaflow the other day for my CPU and it's pretty cool...

I didn't get the infamous L1A but the BX 1HB version instead as I wanted the ability to adjust the juice and the noise and the L1A just doesn't have the output. Forgot to order a 3-pin tail for the Panaflow....whoops...

out come the snippers and strippers and a little surgery using a "donar" part from my TMD fan (it was too noisy anyway ;) ) I got the Panaflow wired in on the CPU.

At full speed it's a little loud but it's 40CFM. After I hooked it up to the Fan resistor on the ANTEC power supply everything quieted down...but...

My GeForceFX 5600 stock fan sticks out like a sore thumb :M
WAYYYYYY too loud.

So I'm thinking either your H/S or the step up....the GIANT III EXTREME, my only beef is the little blower at the end looks alittle out of place

http://www.bigfootcomputers.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/thermaltake/hsf/4706_big.jpg

The GIANT III is about 20% more than the GIANT II at bigfoot. But you are saying that the ATI cools well even without the fan eh? Hmmm.....

With the stock fan the NVIDIA drivers report 56C GPU temp at idle.

I don't know how you guys get anything done with the little ones around. Ever since mine were born - if it's just me and them, I ain't getting nothing done ( as soon as you turn your back there doing something like hammering a hole in the wall :B ).

Problem is, my wife and are hardly ever home at the same time - so that means I hardly ever get any 'projects' done. By the time you feed them, go to the park, give them baths or what have you - it's past their bed time and I'm beat. :Z . My hats off to you guys for getting so much done.

I figure I'll just have a longer to do list for when their older ( and hopefully the place doesn't fall apart before then ). :B

Well, my wife is a stay at home and an adult ed teacher part time in the evenings. For the summer, there is a window....a really short window to get as much stuff done as possible...there is a down side in that admittedly I'm not spending as much time as I would like with the guys, that generally changes in the winter when my wife works evenings.

So many jobs, so little time. I can't say I'm really doing anything home theater-wise. I just enjoy what little I got as that's just par for the course, for now. We've taken it easy on home stuff for the last 5 years and now it's time to correct that so-called neglect. I've noticed personally, since I cut out TV in the evenings for the last couple of months I get a helluva lot more done in the evenings...usually it's come home, play, get them to bed and work on stuff from 8:30 or 9:00 till 11:00.

It's not always that perfect, as, like you, I can come home feeling just beat at the end of a work day.

You guys work to hard!! :)

Gord, that's pretty hot at 56C for a graphics card I would think.

Well, I installed my XP 3200+ processor and cranked the frontside bus from
333MHZ to 400MHZ..
Only thing is that prior my CPU, the AMD 2500+..O/C'd to 2800+
had a consistant temp of 45C..
Now with the 3200+ at stock is running at 68C temp..
This seems really hot in comparision.
I wonder if that is normal for the Processor of this speed?
Maybe it has something to do with the faster bus speed?
Am I in danger?

Gordon Moore
08-22-2004, 06:08 PM
If that's just at idle....you may want to look into bigger heatsink/cooling options....because once you fire up doom it's all going to get pretty hot I would think. That's still within spec but running hotter than most would like.

It has a lot to do with O/C and the limited abilities of the stock cooler

Incidently, 56C is fine for the FX I just don't like it that hot and it doesn't leave room for o/c I think. Mind you the Nvidia drivers don't shut down the card down till 146C :E That doesn't seem right but that's what it says....you'd think the card would be glowing red by that point

I'll check back on what you say after Trev, I'm off to the city park with the kids. Bing or Andrew may weight-in on your heat issue.

Am I in danger?Well, the faster the processor, the more heat it generates, so it will run hotter than the 2500+. Did you use any thermal paste on the heatsink? If it isn't applied correctly, it can cause temps to be high. As a test, try running the 3200+ at the 2800+ speed and see what the temp is. If it's significantly higher than the 2500+ at the same speed, then maybe you have an issue with the HSF and thermal interface. Or you may just need beefier cooling for the faster CPU. Are the two chips based on the same core?

Oooh notting hills is a favorite of mine

Hows the PQ on the new changer? Have you tried it on the FP yet?

Yup Lauren and I watched a few clips this afternoon...so far I'm pretty impressed. I wouldn't say its better then the Denon it replaced but its not horrible either. It does have several advantages as well ..the biggest being that it can output a progressive image via the component cables and at the same time feed the s-video interlaced meaning that I no longer have to flip a switch when someone wants to watch a DVD on the Wega instead of the FP. It also automatically selects the 5.1 track which today isn't that big a deal but for those older movies the default to PL its a nice touch.

Trev, click the attachment to see the wax, sorry image a little blurred.

It's a McGuire's product, Gold Class. Just look at that hood, it looks almost liquid. Hard to argue with that, huh? :)

Beware, there is one McGuires product that if you get it on rubber, it will NEVER come off. I have some here with a clear label on bottle. It's great on paint, bad on rubber. For a car like the Mach, it could work for at least parts of it.

But I like the gold class, it even comes off pretty easy.

Much to my disatisfaction, I spent a lot of time today on laptops.

I first reloaded the notebook again, and put Windows 2000 on it. Well, that worked, but the problem is, no drivers for W2K for graphics, etc... So, that was totally screwed when I tried to load an XP driver for W2K, ha.

I went to BB, and looked at computers, but did buy a hard drive for the laptop. 40 gig. I had never installed one in a notebook. I have now. The install went smooth, in less than 30 minutes. The install went smooth once I decided on partition size. The problem occured when I couldn't read a disc for my wireless. I tried multiple CD units with one a USB even, external, finally I discovered it was a bad CD! Son of a gun, what grief it caused me. Once I used another I had here, boom, I was off to the races. I've now installed SP1, Virus Protection, and am ready to quit on it for the night. :)

The drive is a Seagate 40 mg 8 MB Cache. (The 8 is GOOD)

Ultra ATA/100 interface, less than 2.6 bels acoustics. (whatever that means). Quite? I don't see any info on seek, though you may find something at www.seagate.com. There's no model on the box listed that I see, just 2.5 inch 40 gig, 8 mb cache.

It does seem to ahve speeded up this little Sony Craptop. ;)

OVerheat warning eh? :?

Not Good,

I'd say back off down to stock speeds till you sort out the heat. Even with a stock cooler things shouldn't run too hot.

Thermal paste can be tricky, too much and it won't transfer heat properly, too little and you won't transfer heat properly. The best way to apply it is a small dab in the corner. Use a razor blade or the edge of a credit card and draw the paste across the cpu die, the blade ensures everything stays even. The CPU should be fully covered and it shouldn't be very thick but you should be able to see through it either.

Then on the base of the heatsink apply a dab of paste and wear a glove (like those colourist gloves for hair colour...get them from the dollar store 10 pair for $1). Use your covered finger and work the paste into the bottom of the heatsink filling all the microgrooves and imperfections. Then use a clean lint free cloth and wipe off the paste. Then bottom of the heatsink will look dull.

Apply the heatsink to the CPU (probably a pressure clip) and away you go.

If stock aint' cutting it....look into heatsinks that bolt on to the motherboard and accept a 80mm fan minimum, 92mm is even better and will allow you to cool at much quieter levels :T

Let us know how it goes.

Right now with my 2800XP non-o/c, I sit at about 47C because all my fans are wound down and my case does'nt flow well. I should wind everything up to freekin loud just to see what I can cool to. I hope to upgrade to a newer case at x-mas but time will tell. There are some nice options from Antec and Thermaltake (I like the tsunami case).

The city park was a blast...large open areas for the kids and parents to play. We got together with our friends Joy and Lionel and their 2 children Cali and Sutter. My buddy Greg even showed up. We had a cold (read chilly) picnic in the park a la Subway subs and then played Frisbee, soccer, rode bikes, flew a kite, climb trees (the kids not the parents). 5:30 -8:30 the kids had a blast, we had fun too :)

Doing a litte home work and then I'm going to call it a night.

TTYL,

Gordo

And one from the Olympics. Man, that blows about the scoring error that made the medals be given to the wrong person. But I tell you what... Paul Hamm (the American that won) did one heck of a job coming back from behind. Good for him!

Don't worry Doug a yard is about the same as a meter ;)

That is one funny/weird/cool Mini limo

Kev, I'm not too far off. I've got a Celeron (!? ) 850 OC'd to 1066. I've got 1Gb of 133 memory though :T That's one of the main things holding me back from upgrading. Don't really want to buy all that memory again and using 133 memory with the new MB's processors etc seems like a bit of a waste  Plus then what do I do with my 1GB of 133 memory?! Suppose I could put it in Jazz's PC but...

Hope everyone get's their computer prob's worked out. Trev I'd go with a bigger heatsink and fan even if it is just a bad thermal paste job. You're always going to be better off running quiter and cooler anyways. Besides you are the upgrade king...

Andrew, glad the new player's working out :T

Bam, how those speakers breaking in? Should be hitting their stride by now.. Good weekend listening session? Oh and :p: :p:

Anybody seen Under the Tuscan Sun? Kind of a girlie movie but man it makes you want to move to Italy, gorgeous scenery :P I was pretty surprised to for a girlie movie that's largely dialogue driven, the soundtrack wasn't half bad. Went out looking at sofabeds today to see about getting something for the HT room for guests etc. Saw some at Sears that weren't too bad for the cost...real coil springs vs foam and were small enough not to dominate the room. Color selection isn't great but its a slip type cover that G's mum could likely make us a new one cheap to fit the room better. Dunno yet but we've got company coming again this week so it would be nice to have something in place soon.

Also looked at sheds as we desperately need to replace the POS one we have now...its litterally falling apart

This is a good one!!

A Marine stationed in Afghanistan recently received a "Dear John"
letter from his girlfriend back home. It read as follows:

Dear Ricky, I can no longer continue our relationship. The distance between us is just too great. I must admit that I have cheated on you twice, since you've been gone, and it's not fair to either of us. I'm sorry. Please return the picture of me that I sent to you. Love, Becky

The Marine, with hurt feelings, asked his fellow Marines for any snapshots they could spare of their girlfriends, sisters, ex-girlfriends, aunts, cousins etc. In addition to the picture of Becky, Ricky included all the other pictures of the pretty gals he had collected from his buddies. There were 57 photos in that envelope....along with this note:

Dear Becky, I'm so sorry, but I can't quite remember who you are. Please take your picture from the pile, and send the rest back to me.

Take Care, Ricky

Ok, guys, this is getting a little to racy for M-F. I just can't come to TTP like this at all during the day and probably neither can a few more people, so you won't see me until this page flips after tonight. But in the future this ONLY flies from Friday through the last page flip on Saturday please.

It is not just a matter of whether the images are displayed on the screen. It's a matter that the image is on your hard drive at work, and if an analysis of your PC occured, you could get busted for viewing inappropriate materials on company/government PCs. Does this make sense?

Morning all....yeah that was a down pour, I had to go out and unclog a stuck drain in that mess...I was soaked to the bone in under a minute.

I agree with Andrew. The babes thing always becomes such an issue why can't it just be a link? When it's cluttered with 1/2 nekkid chicks I have to scroll quickly or wait till the darn thing flips. Even when the pics are hidden it's too easy to swipe over them "by accident :W "....why not just agree to links then if you open it up it's your doing, good or bad.

I'm not saying all pics are bad but the amount of undress is always a grey area of what's agreeable to one person may not be to another which is why nudity is such a big deal on this side of the globe and not the other. A link gives people back the choice to look or not.

You'll still get the locker room pat on the back for posting it. Trev Bing and Lex are the mods so it's their call but that's my take on it.

Good Morning, Guys! :later:

Sorry that I haven't stopped by lately. :( The seasons are a changin.....its getting very busy with pre season ordering/year end/budgets....etc. I really think work is over rated. :)

Lex, the car looks great. :T I use the same wax on the hot rod and think it is one of the best out there. Just looking for a car cover for winter storage.

Trev, thanks for the setup on the page!! I agree the weekend is better for the babe posts.

Bam, your hair must be gettin thin you've been "blown away" so much lately. :roflmao: :p: Thanks on the picture.

Glen, Andrew........I'm sure the way things are looking around here we will be sending snow soon. ;) :D It looks like the only warm area in the west is Trev's computer. :B

Jason, nice pictures butt, :smackbutt: :naughty: Oh yeah happy birthday!!! :T

Gordon, Boy I hope you can get all those jobs done before the snow comes in a few days!!! ;) :D Thanks on the picture....yeah Jake is a handful alright... ;) :D

Kevin, I think it has been a cold year for almost everyone....except Jason on the west coast......all we have to look forward to is a cold snowy winter. :freezing: icon. :)

Shane. :later:

Bing, how did the festival turn out? Nice table saw! I have been using mine a lot lately on the garage. The wife asked why I was putting a TV/receiver/speakers in the garage...is that a loaded question? :B ;) Also, like Gordon had mentioned I use a Fien 97725 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005Q7C0/msn-hifo/ref%3Dnosim/102-8791646-9932164) which is the quietest shop vacs and it turns on and off when you switch the saw on and off.

Chris, have a safe drive across country. Maybe you and Lex will get a chance to meet. :T

Claude, Nice HT setup there!! :T

Andrew, nice on the changer........the sh#ts on the laptop. Toshiba.... ;) .

Have a good day!

Links turn to images Andrew. There is no room for in-between MY RULES. The weekend rules apply. Since I am owner, I can make those.

THE ONLY TIME RISKY IMAGES CAN BE POSTED:
Friday after 5 eastern time to Sunday afternoon. however, if a page remains unflipped any image is to be taken down by 10:00 Sun night on the current page. A beautiful woman fully clothed is one thing. Strings and bare parts of any kind is entirely another.

If you do not want to play by those rules, then we can just say NO babes and I or assigned moderators will delete any that are posted.

Simply hiding the image is not enough. Let me repeat it is NOT enough.

Excuse me Bam, what was funny? There is nothing funny about what I said. I do not appreciate mocking humor about things I say about rules anywhere on the forum. Please do not do that again.

I hate to be a hard a$$, but guys, I will be if I have to be. We've been through all this before and as before it's time to come back to reality.

Howdy folks...

Hmmmm... so Jason has multiple personalities? How can I greet all of them, when I don't know how many there are? Well, I suppose I can do it like this:

{
int i;
for (i = 0; i < getMaxPersonalities(Jason); i++)
sendGreetingsTo(Jason[i]);
}

(yes I'm a geek) ;)

Bam, Pro Acs on tubes! As Homer would say, "mmmmm... tooobs!" ;) Glad to hear you were "blown away!" How many watts were the monoblocks?

As for my take on the b@bes (as site admin and techno geek), yes, links are the safest bet. With links, one can choose whether or not they want to view them, and without clicking them, nothing "incriminating" gets downloaded to your PC. The simg tags are good too but not perfect, since the image still gets downloaded (in order to prevent a delay when mousing over them). I could eliminate the pre-loading feature to make simg "safer."

If you're using IE, there's an option in the advanced options menu to clear out the cache when exiting IE. That can help CYA to a degree.

I have my stealth browser to protect me. But since stealth browsing hasn't become the next big killer app (yet), discretion in posting such images is still a good idea.

Gord, what gets to me is how nudity is so taboo around here (in the USA) but violence isn't. Is it really healthier for your kids to see people's heads being blown off with an AK47 than to see b00bies? I don't get it.

Kevin P
08-24-2004, 12:01 PM
Well, if we can't post b@bes then we can substitute something even cuter! :)

Rick's being a little cheeky! 8O

Kevin I think Canada tends to have a more european influence in it's "thinking". We tend to have a more open attitude re: sexuality than the US, somewhere between the US and europe. That's why violent movies tend to get higher ratings in Canada than the US and movies with more sexual content get higher ratings in the US. Note Lex, I in no way mean that comment as a slight to your rules, (which I understand and respect) just a comment on the general differences I've noticed between our countries on the topic.

Bam glad to hear you had fun and were "blown away" again  :p: :p: Looks like I'm the one getting in trouble today :p:

So after I get woken up by her alarm at 5:20 I get back asleep then woken back up when she's getting ready, then again when she leaves at about 6:30. Then just as I'm getting back in to a nice deep sleep, my alarm goes off  Totally broken, crappy sleep. Watched Four weddings and a funeral tonight on the PJ..its 16:9 but must noe be enhanced as it looked like crap...not that any of our friends noticed  ...though a few bottles of wine and some scotch shots will nicely take care of that too :BAccording to IMDB only the R2 version is anamorphic. Wow... Bam... who needs b@be pics when one can post pics of high end gear!

Very nice amps. I think they should have put the tube cages in the front though. I think glowing tubes enhance the appearance of gear, they shouldn't be hidden! Do you know if he was running them in triode or ultralinear mode?

Only $4000/pair, what a bargain! 8O

What for?

Andrew's turning in to a scotch drinker on us

Yeah maybe...the scotch that I have now taste very nasty having tasted some smoother stuff now...time to upgrade and buy a better brand :)

Just got back from HD with a door for the coldroom/office to help hide the mess in there:) Got a good deal on it as they gave me $10 off since the plastic was torn a bit...didn't even ask for it the sales guy I was talking too about my project offered it to me! Its going to be an interesting install though b/c of the angle of the two walls and the fact I'm going to have to cut off the top and bottom of the door to make it fit...oh well I've got time this week and I needed a project to work on

So far its doing very well. Video quality looks very solid and audio seems on par as well for DVD's. I haven't listened to a CD or SACD though it yet though.

Andrew, I've had good luck with Aberlour and Glenmorangie scotch's. The Glemorangie Port Wood Finish, was quite tasty :P (scored a 99 on that link I posted a few pages back :T )

Looks like another good one we should both try is Macallan -18Year.

Looks like the 12's "only" about $85, definitely closer to my range :yesnod: The Aberlour 10 Year, while not as full flavoured as some of the more expensive scotch's is quite smooth and good and quite affordable at just over $40. If you ever have some relatives coming from the UK, get them to bring you a bottle of the Aberlour 12 Year Sherry Matured only available from UK duty free shops. You won't regret it  At some point I'd like to try some Aberlour A'bunadh as well. It's bottled non filtered and cask strength (60% alcohol) Basically it's the closest thing to the scotch my great great grandpa would have drank, I'll ever get to taste. The Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish is about $60 and quite good too :T

Thanks for the welcome back, guys! :D

So, I DID decide to start reading from about 30 or so pages ago, and I came up to this post by Doug, which really has me baffled.

I haven't read past it, and only about 3 pages before it, but it still has me totally confused as to what TTP is for on this web site.

-------

Quote:

"Guys, respectfully, I'd like to remind you that this is not your all's personal thread. this is a thread for many guys, and as such not really the "best place" to conduct what seems like private conversations. Can you all please do that offline from ttp?

thanks,
Doug"

-------

Isn't this like a bunch of guys getting together all at once with many conversations going on at once, and any particular person can jump in with a comment at any time (or NOT jump in)???

Or am I missing something.

If a couple of people are going back and forth for a few posts, and no one else is jumping in, I'm wondering what the problem is...

It's not like the people are asking others NOT to post.

Can you, Doug, or anyone else, set me straight on this.

It confuses the heck outta me.

Gregor

Bam!

So what were you listening too? Did they sound the way you wanted them too with a good recording? Details, we need details. :B

:p: :p:

Glen!

The thing is the pro Acs are colored.......and they have a huge dip at the 2.5k where the cutoff is on the x over...then they have a 6db rise up to 12 k :E I was hearing this phenemonon....and so he took at a microphone set the pink noise at all frequencies and we read the result on the computer....and that's what it showed...

Now that being said....I love the colored sound of the Pro ac's.....now while the timber level could be better and more "realistic" it is something I enjoy in the Pro acs..... That being said....on some recordings they play like real poop.....that and with the pickup of my redbook cd player.....it really doesn' t follow through very well at all...

But that being said......all speakers have their shining moments and the not so shining moments.......a good recording sounds good. A recording that has what the pro acs were made for sound incredible......anything else.....poop!

So there you have it! Another learning experience.

So what's up with everyone ?

Greg a rooney :p:

Jason! :p:

Where the frig is Bing ?

For Bing :p:

"Rain rain go away, come back another day...."

Walked up to the bus at 7:50 (it takes 10 mins to walk up to the bus stop) turned around and got back to the house at 8:10....My pants were soaked right through, there was no way I was sitting in those for the day. Changed, and took the car in.....what a downpur this morning. I also found I had one clogged gutter in the front that I had to clear....Seems I always find that on the rainy days  ....I really need to get into the ritual of checking downspouts once a month. All the big freaking trees in our area (mine included) clog up the works, small price to pay for such beautiful mature trees.

I hear you Greg but I'm not not going there.... :B

Hope it's drier elsewhere in the world.

Fun baseball game last night, but Mr. Pratt was a little too eager running the bases :nono: and coincidently we lost the game by 1....hmmmmm. Yeah, I can see Andrew saying: :2fingers: to you too Gord :W

For the record I struck out at bat so I'm no better

That's why we're on the misfits team.

Hey, Andrew, how's that door going in? You making it fit?....I bet he's using the mis-sized door as an excuse to buy a power planer.

Bam, I bet that speaker sings....if not it sure looks purty anyways.

Hey Glen, has the novelty of big screen worn off yet?

Trevor, is your house sold yet...how's that going?

Howdy Rick, send the snow...it's been piss-poor the last couple of seasons for riding (in MB)....Last year was okay at best....maybe this year, who knows?

Been raining here too, supposed to clear up a bit over the next few days and for the weekend but nothing like the weather we were getting. We needed some rain though, help with the forest fires and water reserves. I mean we need enough water to make all that electricity we're selling to California

Hey, Andrew, how's that door going in? Yuo making it fit....I bet he's using the mis-sized door as an excuse to buy a power planer.
That sounds like something he'd do

I agree with Andrew Bam, make a post in DIY, they'll help sort ya out.... and :p:

Greg, I don't think anyone's gonna touch that one with a 10' poll  Just keep reading buddy and enjoy all the tasty ladies ;)

Freak, that's the Bowmore my bro got me for my b-day. Good but you have to be in the mood for the smokey flavour for sure. No worries on the Irish whiskeys, they're also quite good, tend to me smoother but less full bodied than scotch. Sampled lot's of that when I was in Ireland ;) :P Oh and the Guiness in Dublin! I do believe I tried that Speyburn many moons ago... alright but not my favourite.

Yes Glen, that would buy a lot of beer  But trust me, when you taste a truly good scotch it's sooooooo goood :P

Any tips you Canadians have for getting electronics over the border? I might be buying Pat's Olympus 750UZ off him in a couple months if we can agree on a mutually benneficial price :D I'm just a little worried about the border (costs) and the goomba's working there ripping it apart to make sure it's not a terrorist bomb or something...

Well, guys, I graduate tomorrow down here in Alabama, and will be driving across country in the Bimmer to go home to Washington. Should be a nice drive, but very long. (2,750 miles)

Problem, though. I started having some abdominal pains over the 5 weeks that I was here, went to the doc, and found out that I have a "minor" hernia. So I'll have to have surgery when I get back up to Washington, which sucks. I'll be uncomfortable for the long drive, but I should be okay. :E

Major bummer of a sports story today. Two AHL hockey players got involved in a fight and started swinging their sticks. One guy was pretty messed up, apparently, reportedly "convulsing" on the ice. (sigh) Another downer about hockey this year. :(

Hi Guys!!

Well, the meetings are over and I think I survived....

Bing,,Very sorry to hear about your Dad.
I sincerely hope he recovers well from his
surgery.
We are here for you buddy!!

Guys, thanks for the interest in our home situation.
Right now, we have not had any actions..This is typical
of a private sale..If we have no action comr spring, we may have to
sign up with an agent in order to sell.
However for now, we will just sit tight and see what happens..
There is no rush to sell, really.

Morning folks!

Bing, sorry to hear about your parents. Hope all goes well with them.

Nice camera Jason! :T

Chris, now that's how you break in a BMW! :driving: Hope all goes well with the hernia.

Trevor, your house will sell soon. I just know it. It's a beautiful home.

I'll be offline for a few days as we're heading here later this morning, for a mini vacation!

Hey, Andrew, how's that door going in? You making it fit?....I bet he's using the mis-sized door as an excuse to buy a power planer.

It would have come in handy...what an ordeal! I started at about 9AM and my cousin and father in law started to help around 11...we finished up for the night at 9:30 and there's still some trim work to do. Its a really awkward place for a door given the angles involved and the fact its not a standard height or width for that matter. Anyway I'm really pleased with how its turning out so far :yesnod:

Bing very sorry to hear about your dad.

Jason when the time comes to ship it have it sent USPS air mail, marked as a gift with a $60 value and you'll likely not have to pay a dime extra (worked like a charm for my DVD Jukebox). Avoid UPS at all costs as that's a sure way to get screwed...USPS ground will almost always mean you'll pay duty and a $5 handeling fee but its cheap and reasonably fast from the US.

Chris enjoy your trip but it sucks about the opperation.

Another busy day today moving some wood chips, screaming at Dell, doing the trim on the door and a few other projects before tonight baseball game.

Chris, sorry to hear about the hernia. I remember my Dad having that operation when we were younger. This will sound cruel but while he was getting better on the couch after a couple days we were telling jokes/acting silly to get him to laugh... :B

Trev, you should have no problems selling with that house! You may even want to wait a bit in to spring before you get an agent if it doesn't sell though as that's peak buying time.

Thanks on the cam Kev but it's not mine... yet ;) Enjoy the min-vacation :T Andrew if I only put it valued at $60 what happens if it gets destroyed during shipping...?

Afternoon,

Well to make yesterday's bad day worse....I get back to the car and there's a ticket on it from impark....what the...I bought a ticket....the damn thing blew off the dash and on to the floor face up....I could see it from the passenger's side window but the parking attendent flunky couldn't I guess  .

The same damn thing happened last winter....you'd think I'd learn by now to double-check. No problem I thought, I'll just call and explain....I paid with visa and I have a valid receipt....not so.

She tells me that the first time I called they took it off as a courtesy....they didn't mention that this couldn't happen again...or else.

They wouldn't reduce anything they want $32 buxs :M and $64 if not received within 7 days

Called back today to see if I could talk to someone above the call-center yo-yo and they wouldn't put me through anyone higher, although today they want to reduce the fine to $21 as a courtesy....what happened to yesterday when they couldn't do anything.

Impark sucks...they got my $6 it's on my visa receipt....sheesh....

So USPS ground sounds like the best route. I just don't like the idea of not insuring the shipment for the full amount  And if I have to pay duty on the full amount I may as well just buy a new one up here... There has to be a better way around this...

Well I'm off for 3 days of meetings in Edmonton next week (mon-wed). I'm not looking forward to them at all. :M When I'm not in the office, there's no one left to look after things - so all hell's bound to break loose. Then I'll have to try and catch up and clean up when I get back ( I'm already working 6 days a week - there ain't much time left in a day to play catch up ). With any luck, maybe I'll convince them I need an assistant. Very stressed out about the whole thing. I've got to do a presentation on the areas I'm responsible for - and I haven't had a moment to prep for it. Guess I'll be throwing it together on the plane ride.

The only part I'm looking forward to is meeting some of the people I've been talking to on the phone for years. Most of them have never seen me either. I keep hearing that Joker line from Batman in my head "wait till they get a load on me" I'm sure I don't look anything like they're expecting.

Hello all. I've decided to pull back from TTP a bit. It's just there's so many other things for me to do right now, including my business. There are only so many hours in a day. It's been an up and down few days for me.

1. I tore up my John Deere on my water main cover out front. I normally come at it from the top of the hill down, and for some reason this time, I came across it side ways, and I just snagged it. Took a chunk out of it too! Really f@#$#d up my blades though, bent all to crap. As I said, didn't do much for the cover either. I will likely have to pay for a new one. At least service people picked it up today. I was really surprised to get in so quick. I guess because it's so late in the summer they don't have that much work lined up. Maybe get it back in about a week, and 200.00 later. (complete tune up, oil change, flat tire fixed, blades fixed, and pickup and delivery.)

2. I had a med event, well, just something I'd been wondering about, thought my cholesterol may be through the roof. After testing though, it seems I have the cholesterol of a 15 year old boy. To bad I don't have the energy of one. :)

3. Picked up a new pressure washer today, a Honda at HD. I'd had my eye on them a while.

4. I actually went to take a hose back I bought for my Ridgid Air Compressor I bought. It's a jobsite model so it doesn't take up much room. Been fixing up the hoses for it/fittings. Tire air, free air blower, quick connect hoses, etc... You have to put teflon tape on teh fittings when you put them together.

5. Picked up a few new Stanley tools at Walmart. I've found that the new professional model tools are made about like Snap on quality. Awesome. I got like 3 close out deals.

6. I bought a 1970 license plate today to hang in my garage. It even has the prefix FB (fastback) :)

7. Been working on some cables, even training a new assistant. The goal is to get him to the point he can make at least a few model cables at his home. He's a long time friend, fellow Mustang owner, and an all around great guy.

Yes, I understand Chris may breeze through town tomorrow maybe! That will be great to meet an HTGer. But I forwarn you Chris, life is not what I call "settled down" here right now, I've started so many projects lately, I've got residual mess from all of it that I just haven't got around to. (back to not enough hours in a day, or energy)

Chris, I am getting a hair cut in the morning, not sure when you are breezing in, but 9:30 to 10:30, I am out and about. call me 865-405-DOUG (3684).

Carry on guys, talk soon.

So Here is a question out of left field..

If the NHL decides to lock out the season(likely at this rate..), what will you guys in Canada do? I would think this looming lockout is a concern for the Canadian Hockey Fans. I knew we had a few around here....

aud19
08-28-2004, 03:44 PM
Well we do more than just hockey up here but....

The World Cup is coming up quick. There's a countdown to it here:
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/e/teams/mens/worldcup/2004/index.html
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/e/teams/i/team_pic.jpg

There's also the minor leagues etc. For example we have the Vancouver Giants here in my home town.
http://www.vancouvergiants.com/
http://www.thecbl.com/giantsshade.jpg

There's also a new reality TV series starting this year on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) called Making The Cut that is going to find those players who never "made it" (to the NHL) but could have.
http://www.makingthecut.ca/en/index.jsp
http://www.htguide.com/forum/attachment.php4?attachmentid=778
Your first step to the Big Leagues is the Bell Making the Cut Tryout Challenge - A seven city, coast-to-coast search for the best unsigned hockey players in Canada starting this May in Toronto, Winnipeg, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal.
Under the watchful eye of Scotty Bowman and Mike Keenan and their professional scouting staff, the Tryout Challenge will deliver an on-ice experience that will take you closer to the Pros than you've ever been.

It's a once in a lifetime chance to experience big league drills and test your on-ice skills, with Pro coaches and scouts watching your every move.

Whether you are an elite player who wants to establish yourself as one of Canada's top unsigned hockey players, or a recreational player who enjoys the game and a good skate - Bell Making the Cut Tryout Challenge is for you.

It's an event you will want to share with your friends, teammates and family. Meet Pro scouts and coaches, past NHL® players and show us your best game while our cameras are rolling.

So, sharpen your skates, tape your stick, and join us on the ice for the Bell Making the Cut Tryout Challenge. It's an opportunity you can't miss. An experience you'll never forget.

But remember, there's more than bragging rights on the line - attend the Tryout Challenge and you could earn a spot at the Bell Making the Cut Training Camp.

But hopefully we'll also still have a regular NHL season, though like you mentioned, that's starting to look doubtful

Hey guys....what's in the water in Canada?! Man, she's totally HOT.

Andrew Pratt
08-28-2004, 10:01 PM
I really hope there's NHL hockey this year but to be honest I'm not sure they'll get it resolved for awhile...though we're only been told what they want us to hear at this point and its mostly just PR speak that we're hearing from Bateman and Goodenow so who know's what's really going to happen at crunch time...still I'm not sure we'll see hockey until the new year in a much shortened season.

Well Gord and I played in the final tournament this weekend for our baseball league...it came down to a one run difference in the B side final but with runners on the bases we just couldn't get it done. It was a fun game though with both teams going back and forth and they were good sports so I didn't mind loosing to them...which says a lot when you know how competitive I am...though maybe the abundance of very short skirts on their team helpped :W

Gordon Moore
08-28-2004, 10:14 PM
Yup that was a good final and the team obviously stuck the girls in skirts as a strategy :W (whic for the most part was working). I took a hit on the beak and it blew my glasses out of place. We were playing Shopper's Optical and a cutie in a skirt felt bad and gave me a decent coupon for new specs from Shopper's Optical that I'm going to take advantage of.

Swelling still hasn't gone down in my schnoz...I hope it ain't out of place :( ....I doubt it 'cuz I was hit pretty high up on the nose.

Yup Cuthbert is cute, I remember watching her on Popular mechanics for kids before 24. It was obvious that she was going to be a hottie. :B

I hear the Girl Next Door is actually really good. Apparant;y has a wicked 80's soundtrack and the movie has a very John Hughes feel to it. Regardless of posters....the movie isn't as "dirty" as you think (or hope ;) )

Man the USA is doing pretty awesome at the Olympics

Our Athlete's went there with a mindset to have fun
only,,winning wasn't important as long as they were having fun.
Basically, we sucked bigtime.

I disagree with the "we sucked part"...

We don't suck, our athletes are not funded as heavily as other countries which contributes to our poor standing...the infrastructure isn't really there nor is there a big emphasis on winning a boat load of medals. The olympics is a big corporate show boat anyway....with countries that send "dream teams", athletes that drop their professional status to play in the olympics....etc... (many of the top countries do it, I imagine we have as well)

It's a bit of a farce anyway...

I do like hearing the stories about the 20 somethings that have worked all their life to get to that moment and wish there was more amateur talent in the olympics, as it's not about winning a boat load of medals....it's easier to remember one or two faces anyway and enjoy what we got.

Some nations never win anything but I still think they enjoy the chance to be there.

Our Athlete's went there with a mindset to have fun
only,,winning wasn't important as long as they were having fun.

Personally I think this is the best "attitude" to take when it comes to sports. We all try to teach our kids this early on so they don't become discourged or disappointed; why does that have to change?

It's funny when we lost the baseball game, it wasn't such a big deal because we all played as well as we could. Someone had to lose. No big whoop. If you played your best, that's all anyone can ever ask for.

jimmyp58
08-28-2004, 11:14 PM

However when you get into the higher leagues
it obviously has to become competitive.
As people get older they have to decide whether
to continue in the sport as a lifestyle, income
or pursue other interests and treat the sport as recreational.
When you are in the Olympics and competing against the world..
You better have the mindset to do what it takes to
win. Of course you are going to have fun doing it as well.

Bing,,How is your Dad doing?
I am thinking about you and your family.

Jason,,Great pics..:-y

Rick,,I will see you downtown today,
My eyes will be watching for the orange classic.

Glen,,Enjoy the trip..
I am sure your meeting will go well for you.
You certainly have proven to be very dedicated
to your work with the amount of hours you put in.

Bam!!,,Hope your skate business has a great winter season..
Just think,,more sales= more HT equipment for you.

Trev,
The Canadians did ok but I think traditionally they are more of a winter sports juggernaut than most. The US just fades usually in the Winter Games. Makes sense really as would we expect say Brazil to do good in the Winter Games? I bet they hardly acknowledge it exists down there.

That's right Jimmy, I'm from the "kill with kindness" school ;) Man I sure would love a rack full of Bryston's one day.... Maybe after the kid leaves home! :P

Glen, I'm sure you'll do great on your trip. Most importantly try to make some time for yourself to have some fun and relax a bit while you're away :T

Steve, enjoy the calm while it lasts buddy :p:

Trev, have fun with all the purrrrt cars :yesnod:

I agree Shane, we tend to do better (and put more money in to supporting) winter sports here in Canada. To be honest I find most of the summer Olympics pretty boring anyways, there's a lot more speed and excitement in a lot of the winter events, yes even besides hockey

While I don't necessarily agree with this 100 percent I do think the atheletes we send should be obtaining personal bests or at least getting close to them. You can't ask any more of an athelete then that but at least with the swim team out of the 30 plus races we had people in there was only a few PB's...that just not acceptable at a world class event that they've trained for so long for. I don't know if its the coaches that didn't get them motivated or what but there obviously needs to be changes made.

I guess the same could be said of the US mens basketball team. Considering the tallent they had playing in the bronze medal game shouldn't have happened if they'd played as well as they could have.

Bought a slide for Lauren at a garage sale this morning. It'll need to be tethered to something as its fairly large (for a 17 month old) but I was thinking of building her a little play house anyway as she loves the little plastic one we have on loan at the moment from friends.

Also bought a Laser Disc today! Its just the pro logic version of Jurassic Park but I thought I might frame it and put it up on the wall in the media room as its one of my favorite movies and it only cost me a buck:)

Jason that's a nice beach shot...too bad the chicks in the way of the view :W

Jason, you ARE killing me!!!!

What sucks about the U.S. men's basketball team, besides only getting a Bronze medal, is that these guys think they are "all that", get paid as if they are, then a bunch of guys that wouldn't even get a whiff in the NBA slaughter them. We should all ask for our money back at the NBA games. If the owners had any cahones, they'd bring in even more of these foreign players to show these prima donnas how to REALLY play the game. Defense? OLE'!!!

A guy that I always had a lot of respect for, as a player and person, and the vital ingredient that brought my team, the Milwaukee Bucks their sole NBA championship, Oscar Robertson, had some very insightful things to say this last basketball season. Here's a guy that AVERAGED a triple-double for his CAREER!!! You see a guy now doing it a few times during the year and the owner throws him more $$$. Oscar went on to comment about how the art of jump shooting is gone. Long gone. In his day if you couldn't shoot, you didn't make a team. Defense? He was one of the best in his time. Ball handling, passing, selfless play, team, were all hallmarks of his illustrious career. How many players can even the most ardent NBA fan name that fit these qualities. The bottom-line, according to Oscar, is that players of today have little to no fundamentals. They learn poor habits as kids playing on a playground and they are never broken of them. Then they grow and all they feel they need to do is hot-dog slam dunks. Don't get me wrong, they're exciting to see but you can't dunk yourself to a championship at any level by merely slamming a ball through a cylinder. As I and every other U.S. men's basketball team fan reflects on what went wrong, all we have to do is look at the porous defense they played and how god awful their shooting was. Oscar hit it right on the head. Could they have faired better with a higher echelon of NBA player. Probably but these guys, for all their alleged worth, should have run circles around each and every opponent. Oh by the way, I think they are heartless too!

Jason, someday those Brystons will be in reach. I thought you guys in Canada get a perverse discount because they are a Canadian company? Or is it that you do and the Rotels are discounted significantly as well?

Anyhow, how many more of these pictures do you have in your treasure chest?!
