View Full Version : CM2, CM C: What Amplifier ?
Hi!
I plan to purchase a 5.1 set of 4x CM2, CM C and the sub. Now I would like to know, if there is anyone experienced with these speakers ?
I am not so much into HT but more into audio. Later I might get a DVD-A or SACD, however, for now I will listen stereo mostly. HT is just a "nice thing to have" besides, for me.
So, what amplifiers would you folks recommend ?

Amix,
The CM series are nice speakers and a real step-up from the 600 series range. However to answer your question on amplifiers:
What is your budget?
What it your room size?
What volume do you listen at?
What are your music preferences?
I am aware that dealer import margins in Europe vary greatly - what amplifier brands are in your price category in Hungary - I know that some of the American brands become silly prices in other countries?
We can then help with more considered advice... :)
That aside there are amplifiers from brands such as: Rotel, Parasound, Krell, Byston, Accuphase, Classe, Arcam, Chord that will all drive your speakers from very well to outstanding - however (from experience) less than half of these may be available from your local dealer and some of those will be much more cost effective than others...

In my theater room I have the CM6's, CMC and for the surrounds on the sides I have the CM2's and CM2's for the rear. I love them. they sound awesome... but right now I'm driving them with a kenwood THX select reciever and 1 Rotel RB1070 amp. I am in the process for getting a RMB1075 and a new processor but I am not sure which to get either the RSP1068 or the RSP1098.
Right now it also run DVD-A which sounds damn good....
Also I'm running an OLD Energy sub.... I'm not sure which sub to get because I think that the CM line of subwoofer is overpriced and that for a bit more you could get a better B&W sub for a little more money. It seems like the sub line is offering more subs in Rosenut (at least that is what i have) so for 1300 on a CM sub I think if you threw in a few"bucks" :B more you could look at the 700 series subs....

Woo Wooooo,

Listen if you can. I’m an RDP-1098 owner but many who have listened to both find the RSP-1068 to be surprisingly close to the RSP-1098 – making a worthwhile $1300 saving in all but high end systems. That saving would come close to covering the cost of the ASW-750 sub….

Absolutely with you on this one. And over in Aussie the ASW750 is only 15% more than the 700 – so let me quote from my dealers web site
“Bigger of the two subs in the 700 series. This sub is simply about offering more. It offers more power, a bigger driver and cabinet and more (and deeper) bass than the ASW700. Unless you have a small room the 750 is 'worth it'.”

Go have a VB and chill out.....
Shoot go drink one for me too :T
Amix,
What is your budget?
Well, it's like I'd go for a RMB-1075+RMB1080 would be the highest I'd go for, pricewise. Now, we already covered this combo int he other thread. I want to know, however, which options I do have. The nice with the 1075+1080 combo is, that i can purchase the 1080 later.
What it your room size?
Not too large: about 18 sqm. Room for 5.1, not more ;(
What volume do you listen at?
Well, I'd say normal levels. I've got neighbours and I do not like music too loud. This is my living-room, not a dedicated HT, and HT is only secondary for me, I am more into stereo and sooner or later multi-channel audio (SACD/DVD-A).
What are your music preferences?
ALL ;-) Starting with eary mid-age folk, Renessaince, Classics, Jazz, House, Hip-Hop, Industrial, R&B, Flamenco, Salsa, Rock, Heavy Metal, Dance, Disco, 70ies, 70ies, Pop, well, actually I LOVE music, so the only it has to be is good.
So yes, I need an amp, that is friend with natural instruments, vocals, electric and electronic instruments.
The CM2 did sound very fine at the shop with different styles of music, however, I did not have a large range to test, since it was in a mall.
The Preamp would be an RSP-1068 (or any other within this price-range, however, I don't know any).

Thanks :) Well, I never buy any electronics (except "Made in Hungary", like the Dension MP3 Car-Player and matching CD-Receiver) in Hungary. The vat is 25% in addition to electronics being more expensive anyway. I purchase my stuff in Germany and put it into the car and pass the border. No problems, it's EU and personal use.
and 1 Rotel RB1070 amp
Did you have any chance to listen to this amp in pure stereo on the speakers ? Maybe even the CM2 ?
I wonder (should I go Rotel) if I need the RB-1080 or if the RB-1070 would suffice.
Geoff recomended the higher line, since the B&W might like a "little extra". However, I would be glad if I'd become satisfied with the line below, since it is always a question of money ;)
