Now that I'm in the office I can use a computer that hopefully won't crap out on me.

Trev- I'd rather build than buy. PS. I need a mechanic like the one in your flip.

Gordon - Our prayers are with you, your family and especially your aunt.

George - hope your follow up went well and you get a clean bill of health.

Sonnie - I thought you had a sign on the front door that says "All Auditors shot on site!" ;-x

Pr@ - sorry your having problems with the laptop. I'll tell you what, give me the laptop and I'll send you mine that has a serial port. ;lx

Kev - cute kitty flip before.

David - great pics of the house. I'll be posting pictures of the our dining room that we re-finished. You have a lot of yard too.

Bing - hi; keep up the good work with the new job. :T PS just put me last for the PI test.

E- Hope you start feeling better.

Mats - can't wait till we have Avatars. will there be a set amount or can we go out to the internet and find our own.

Have a great day everyone. :grab: <- I love this one

Good morning fellers!

David, I mean't to mention those were some nice shots of your vacation. Looks like a really nice place to be.

Kevin, you'll be my first hire when I start up my Yee-haw Puter Compnee. We oughta have a blast huh?

Eduardo, I can't shoot this auditor cause he's givin' me money. He was a pretty nice guy anyway.

Hello to everyone else.

Hmmm... TTP had good representation in the Miss USA pageant last night. I came in at the end of it with the following 5 remaining:

Miss Michigan
Miss Texas
Miss Tennessee
Miss Massachusetts
Miss Alabama

I personally thought Miss Texas was the prettiest of the bunch and was surprised that Miss Alabama was 1st runner-up. Congrats to Miss Mass now Miss USA.

The 4 states with the prettiest women, imo are Tennessee, Texas, Georgia and Alabama. Although generally in the south, we have a lot of lookers in other states too. KY, FLA come to mind, also SC, VA.

No offense to other state residents, lol.

I know these are old and have probably been posted in TTP before but I always get a chuckle out of the comments:

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(Hardly seems worth it.)

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
(Now that's more like it!)

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.
(O.M.G.!)

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.
(In my next life, I want to be a pig.)

A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death.
(Creepy.) (I'm still not over the pig.)

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.
(Do not try this at home...... maybe at work.)

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.
("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!")

The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field.
(30 minutes... lucky pig... can you imagine??)

The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.
(What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

Some lions mate over 50 times a day.
(I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)

Butterflies taste with their feet.
(Something I always wanted to know.)

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.
(Hmmmmmm........)

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
(If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.
(OK, so that would be a good thing....)

A cat's urine glows under a black light.
(I wonder who was paid to figure that out? Dang, who was paid to find out that information about the pig!)

An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.
(I know some people like that.)

Starfish have no brains.
(I know some people like that too.)

Polar bears are left-handed.
(If they switch, they'll live a lot longer.)

Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.
(What about that pig??)

Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone to whom you wish to bring a smile.

I finally got 3DMark2001 and Super Pi. I closed a bunch of programs to clean up my computer, re-ran SuperPi, and got a better score. I got 1+22 on the 1M test, and then ran 3DMark2001 and got a 7993. Is that good?

rofl Kevin... those are funny!

I definitely want to be a pig in my next life.... a gigolo pig! :D

Okay... I've got my hillbilly avatar ready!

Angie's aunt died this morning. She has had cancer for 20+ years and it finally got her. She did live a good long life but has been suffering pretty much the last few months in a hospice. This was expected and everything has been pre-arranged. We will bury her tomorrow. She was our neighbor on one side of us or you could say a half mile from us anyway. It will be strange going by her house daily knowing she won't ever be there again. Ironically Angie's parents and her aunt have not got along for sometime now.... (not sure what it is about Angie's family that they seem to always have quarrels with other family members.) I've never let this stand in my way of visiting with her. I always got along with her and had some good conversations with her over the years. She had no other family other than an adopted son that pretty much alienated her when her husband (Angie's uncle) died years ago and had been arrested several times for drugs and trying to kill her by taking her medicine away. It's a shame she had to put up with it. Now she'll be in good hands!

Headed to visitation at the funeral home so you guys have a great evening.

Hello, Hello .... I've told everyone that my brother in-law and family was staying with us while thier house was being renovated....they have move out. ;b>'> They were great and very considerate :amen: but my whole upstairs has been thiers. Not that they would have said anything if I stayed up in the bonus room but I too am considerate of thier situation. It feels good to have the entire house to ourselves again. ;h 8x) :icecream: :grab:

Eduardo, congrats on getting your house back. My sister-in-law stayed with us for several months during her divorce. She wasn't a bit of a problem, but it was still great to be back to just us when she bought her new house and moved out.

Bing, how'd day two go?

George, you back yet? I hope.

Tried catching up on the pages I missed while we were gone. Jeez you guys were busy!

Sonnie, I wish I was kidding about the eye surgery. No I won't be down to one eye, they'll replace the lens with a new artificial one. They've already computer modelled my eye and the lens with lasers to make sure it's the proper size, shape and stuff. My vision SHOULD be close to good as new when everything is said and done. I may postpone it for a month or so depending on developments on another front. . . more info later.

Grego, too bad you weren't coming to Texas. We'd have put you up for a few days.

G'night everyone. :tired: Talk to you tomorrow.

Howdy people. Got my cpu up and working now. As I mounted my old Maxtor, Win2k found it and did some corrections, found a lot of crosslinked files and fixed them. I was able to salvage a lot of data and other junk. I think I got all of my mail intact, which I had pretty much given up on. :)

The WD is a nice drive. :T

I wasn't too impressed with how my PC was put together, just little things, like not installing the cd audio cable, and installing the ram into banks 1 and 2, instead of 1 and 3, which is what I believe is better. I'm amazed at all the interal guts and even with lots of PCI slots, the back of the slots are taken up by the serial port, extra usb ports. And all the cabling goes through and obscures some of the PCI slots as well. I basically only have 2 available slots on the back of my case, that's just enought to install my modem for faxing and maybe I'll put in my scsi card that I've got sitting around. I was thinking of installing another PCI video card to get a tripple monitor setup, but now I don't know if I'll go that route.

Oh and get this, I totally forgot that my internal zip drive uses an ISA card. When I popped that out, I was like aw crap, but luckily I haven't really used my zip disks for about 7 months. I used to use it for ferrying files from work to home, now it's not really used at all.

Bing: Is there a way for me to turn off the RAID search on boot up?

Good Stufff Brother Paul!!

The RAID runs on what is called a mini Bios in conjunction with the main Bios. I'm skeptical if it can be disabled. Try setting the hard jumpers of the RAID to disabled (page 19 of the manual) Also in the Main Bios under Advanced make sure the RAID/SCSI device is not in any of the boot sequences. ie first device, second device..etc. Let me know what you find.

Lex, on the A7N8X, the memory (2 sticks) has to be installed into Slot 1&3 or 2&3 for Dual Channel DDR support.

I changed the Core Clock setting from 300MHZ to 315 MHZ
Then changed the Memory Clock from 650 MHZ to 685 MHZ..

:| :| :| Morning folks! :| :| :|

Sonnie, sorry to hear about your aunt. She is in a better place. Cancer is no fun.

"YEE-Haw Puters & Lectrical Ma'bobs" hey I can do 'lectrical ma'bobs too! Hey in Bammer they probably still have vacuum tube radios, I can learn how to fix them. :)

Kevin, soon, your ship will come if you want it to...Well, I've been waiting and waiting. My ship's name is "Titanic", let me know if you hear anything of its whereabouts... it seems to be running a bit late

I can always build a box with nothing but LEDs on it just to spruce up your system if you like...

Pr@ it seems strange that they don't put serial ports on laptops anymore... they are useful for a lot of things. I guess I was fortunate to get mine when they were still standard issue. Is there a USB-to-serial converter you can get, or a PCMCIA serial port?

My cave computer at work would probably get 3+ minutes on Super PI. 500 MHz PIII. Takes like 5 minutes to boot up.

Trev, do you have Winzip? If not, download it from winzip.com. Then you can extract the contents of the zip file I sent you into a folder, then open up index.html by double-clicking it from explorer and you'll see your page in IE.

Trev, retiring in 15 years? Aren't you younger than me?? Sheesh, in 15 years I might have enough saved up to buy another Saturn. The day I retire is they day they lower my coffin into the ground.

Eduardo, it's :hump: day! And you have your house back!

I still don't know how Lex got 0:09 on Super PI. Either he cheated, or he used the offical CAT CRAY 8O

Later folks... KJP

My graphics card came with a program that lets you change the settings of the ram speeds by simply adjusting a dial on screen. There are indicators to, as to yellow green and red , so that you know what levels would put what level of stress and possible instability on the graphic card. I just simply adjusted it to the end of the yellow mark to be safe, since I didn't want to fry it. :#

Well I'm known as the A/V geek at work since I'm always the one who has to fix the TV in the lunch room when it doens't work right... anyway they wanted to put it on for the president's speech and couldn't get a picture, so I had to bail them out again. First of all, someone swiped the rabbit ears so I had to go find them... then I realized that the TV's tuner is broken so you have to select the video in and use the VCR tuner, then I discovered that someone switched the cables, they had audio going to video and vice versa... ay-yi-yi! Anyway I got everything up and running again.

Of course this wonderful company I work for is too cheap to get cable TV or a television set that is actually fully functional... we have 2 TVs and neither of them work right.

Gidday all from the great Northeast where the temp is a very pleasant 48F.

Well I can breathe easy now. No tumor in the ol' gut, and what was causing the bleeding is healing nicely, but it looks like I will be on acid-reducing pills for the rest of my life. That's okay with me.

I read the TTP posts from yesterday and want to thank all who wished me luck. There's definitely strength in numbers because your positive wishes ended up with positive results on my test.
You are a great bunch of guys.

Welcome back George!!

Here is the current CFBoards 3.0 status...

Fix the "Mail my a$$" when someone post something somewhere on a thread...
Add personal Icons feature on the member section. Both a preloaded library of pics and a feature to be able to upload your own pic to use. Maybe the preloaded library should contain the "George Babe-aloo's" ? :)
Fix the "Today's new topic's" to actually display Todays new topics...
FAQ and Search still to be re-written for CFBoards 3.0
The whole Admin section of the Forum has to be re-written... nothing done there yet. (This won't stop us to start using the board pretty soon though
Add the "Ban PEPSI" filter

The mail thread thingy is half done... only an un-subscribe feature to fix and we can roll out the new board... I think...... I hope.... I.... LEX CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY???

I see that TTP is now powered by "Gorgeous George's" Babes. Isn't Gorgeous George that monkey in the kid's books that's always getting into trouble with the man in the yellow hat? Or since he's gorgeous, do they wear pink hats? :D

Kevin, I remember you saying that you liked 3D pinball. I've been playing that over and over while I wait for things to load up on the internet. My best score is still only something like 5.6 million or so. I just can't seem to complete many missions at the "Ensign" level.

Only 25 more members to go to 1000!

Some humor I just got on E-mail:

Ever notice how a 4 year old's voice is louder than 200 adult voices?
1. Several years ago, I returned home from a trip just when a storm
hit with crashing thunder and severe lightning. As I came into my bedroom
about 2 a. m., I found my two children in bed with my wife, apparently
scared by the loud storm. I resigned myself to sleep in the guest
bedroom that night. The next day, I talked to the children, and explained
that
it was O. K. to, sleep with Mommy when the storm was bad, but when I was
expected home, please don't sleep with Mommy that night. They said OK.
After my next trip several weeks later, my wife and the children picked me
up in the terminal at the appointed time. Since the plane was late, there
were hundreds of other folks also waiting for their arriving passengers.
As I entered the waiting area, my son saw me, and came running shouting,
"Hi, Dad! I've got some good news!" As I waved back, I said loudly, "What's
the good news?" "Nobody slept with Mommy while you were away this time!"
Alex shouted. The airport became very quiet, as everyone in the waiting
area looked at Alex, then turned to me, and then searched the rest of the
area to see if they could figure out exactly who his Mom was.
2. An acquaintance of mine who is a physician told this story about
her then 4 yr. old daughter. On the way to preschool, the doctor had left
her stethoscope on the car seat, and her little girl picked it up and
began playing with it. 'Be still, my heart,' thought my friend, my daughter
wants to follow in my footsteps!' Then the child spoke into the
instrument: "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"
3. A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply, "I'm Mr.
Sugarbrown's daughter." Her mother told her this was wrong, she must
say, "I'm Jane Sugarbrown." The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday school, and
said, "Aren't you Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter?" She replied, "I thought I
was,
but mother says I'm not."
4. A little girl asked her mother, "Can I go outside and play with the boys?"
Her mother replied, "No, you can't play with the boys, they're
too rough." The little girl thought about it for a few moments and asked,
"If I can find a smooth one, can I play with him?"

5. At the beginning of a children's sermon, one girl came up to the
altar wearing a beautiful dress. As the children were sitting down around
the pastor, he leaned over and said to the girl, "That is a very pretty
dress. Is it your Easter dress?" The girl replied almost directly into the
pastor's clip-on mike, "Yes, and my Mom says it's a bitch to iron."

A police officer pulls over a speeding car.The officer says, "I clocked
you at 80 mile per hour, sir." The driver says, "Gee, officer, I had it on cruise control at 60,
perhaps your radar needs calibrating." Not looking up from her knitting the wife says sweetly from the passenger seat, "Now don't be silly, dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control."
As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, "Can't you keep your mouth shut for once?" The wife smiles demurely and says, " You should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did." As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched
teeth, "Darn it, woman, can't you keep your mouth shut."
The officer frowns and says, "And I notice that you're not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic $75 fine."
The driver says, "Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket."
The wife says," Now, dear, you know very well that you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you're driving."
And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket the driver turns to his wife and barks, "WHY DON'T YOU SHUT THE HELL UP??"
The officer looks over at the woman and asks, "Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?" ..................................................

Mats, why do I have a white background when I saved it without a background? I tried to load a GIF, but it wouldn't display. Only JPG, and it filled in my black background with white.

:tired: :tired: Morning folks :tired: :tired:

Which is how I feel this morning. I had to leave work early yesterday because Heather was feeling light headed and was afraid she'd pass out. She hasn't been feeling well the past few days and the MD put her on some antibiotics and I wonder if she's having a reaction to them. She's seeing the doctor this morning, hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this. She kept waking up overnight, which means *I* end up being awakened overnight, so I'm a bit :tired: this morning.

I see the new board is up and running! :T I had a bit of trouble getting in initially, since I had a link direct to the Not Ready for Primetime area and this morning it gave me some error about a blown fuse or something  so then I thought, could Mats have the new board up already!? Gee he's fast for a guy with a geezer PC... :) So I went to htguide.com and followed the links in and now I'm in. I also edited the link on my Stealth(tm) homepage so I can go directly in again.

I'll have to check the avatars thing out when I get home, they're pretty useless with Stealth(tm). I see the cool rainbow bar on the reply page so you can pick different colors, now I'm going to have to block that in my stealth since a bright rainbow in the middle of the window doesn't exactly constitute stealth. 8O I assume the old color tags (red, blue, etc.) still work.

Oh well, have ta run, work beckons (ugh)... later folks.. KJP

Afternoon folks. Heather's in the hospital. She went to the doctor's this morning and nearly passed out there so she was sent to the hospital for some tests and to IV some fluids into her, as she has been dehydrated. She's still experiencing abdominal pains as well. I'm hoping it's just that virus going around but I guess we'll find out in time. I'm at home right now to have lunch and rest up a bit then I'm going back over there. If she responds well they'll let her out tonight, or else she'll have to spend the night.

I found the perfect avatar for me, at least until I can get around to creating my own.

E, your avatar looks like he's going to  any second now! :D And I like Sonnie's hillbilly guy avatar.

Howdy folks, I have a new avatar, a vacuum tube! :-y

I'm about to head out to see Heather. Last time she called, she was on the IV, and they didn't find anything on the CAT scan or ultrasound, so unless they've found something since then it's probably just a nasty virus and it'll pass in time. Some of my co-workers know people who have had similar symptoms recently.

So hopefully all will be well again soon. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers. Now let's just hope I don't catch it!

Later folks... KJP

Well I have some exciting news...

I've been inspired to start my own business and would like to share my new endeavor with you all!

I have decided to start my own cable business called E-Cables!

Yes ladies and gentlemen these amazingly fine (and I literally mean that because I make these cables from the smallest, most finite pure e-coated copper I can find) and striking looking cables will meet all your 1980's and early 90's audio/video needs. Yes, I even offer striking colors like red and white platic thinga magoos for a sure fit on your fine VCR's and Nintendo 64 game players!

For the first 50 customers I will hand paint some gold paint on the connector ends to give the appearance of those high-end cables, but without the high-end price! Don't worry, after a short while of use those cold connectors should turn green and offer you even better performance...a trademark of E-Cables quality and a performance guarantee!

Just take a look at the very first pair just moments after leaving the assembly room:

http://www.smarthome.com/images/8355big.jpg

I am happy to announce, mine and yours, yes our good buddy Jeff has 3 pairs of these fine E-Cables running his DVD-Audio system as we speak. If we're lucky we may even have Jeff stop by and give us a nice review of his oustanding E-Cables!

How much you ask. Well right now I'm just offering 1 meter pairs of the AE-Cables (Analogue E-Cables) for an introductory price of $0.85 with a $10 shipping charge. Why is is shipping so high? I'm glad you asked. We take such pride in assembling E-Cables that they are finely wrapped in Charmen "white cloth" and then put in a 2x2' crate wood box to ensure saftey during shipment....nothing but the best with E-Cables!!!

Thank you Lex for being my inspiration and I no doubt will enjoy some fine competition!

****(Yes this was a joke and something that Jeff and I thought up...don't hate me/us...but we thought it would be darn funny...for I did give him 3 pairs of those cables (temporary use) and we joked about how I should compete with Lex's FINE Catcables!!!)****

Thanks for letting me be a silly goof...back to your regular scheduled whatever it is you do here! :P

I can attest to the quality of these cables. I hope that in the next two weeks that these take the next step in their evolutionary chain by turning green. As I understand the countless hours of research E and I did, it should have the same effect as the green pen on CD's. I can't wait to do a blind test on these babies!!!

As far as how they sound currently on my gear: I do hear noise coming from my speakers. These fine cables allow only the loudest static to accompany the music. It gives a truely well balanced static filled presentation.

I will keep you updated on the progress as these cables transform into the green leads they shall become.

Uh-oh E, look out, as you're up to some stiff competition there. It's purely coincidental that tonight I am unveiling MY new online business:

PATZCABLES.com

My first products will include the PC-3V, a stunning revolution in A/V cable technology. Featuring real gold colored connectors for that high-end look, the PC-3V combines 2-channel audio AND composite video into a single cable, so you won't have to fumble around with 3 separate cables. The connectors are even individually labeled, so unless you're a complete f!@#$ng moron you can't get them mixed up! Also notice how the video cable is thicker than the audio cables. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, well you need thicker cable to carry pictures!

The PATZCABLES PC-3V is the ideal solution for a multitude of interconnect needs around the house. With them, you can connect your VCR to your TV, even if they're stereo! You can connect your Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis or Commodore 64 to your TV as well. And in a pinch, you can use it as a component video cable for DVD or HDTV* as well!

http://www.smarthome.com/images/8350v6_xyz1.gif

* For component video use, consider using our PC-CV3. It is identical to the PC-3V but with red, green, and blue strain relief jackets on the connectors instead of red, white, and yellow strain relief jackets. Red, green and blue jackets are known for producing superior video performance to red, white and yellow jackets. Also, we charge more for the PC-CV3, not because they cost more to make, but just because. Don't ask why.

Another hot product in the PatzCables line is the PC-SV1 (not to be confused with the SVS 20-39PCi, which isn't a cable at all, but a honkin tube o'bass). The PC-SV1 is a superior video cable to complement the PC-3V if you happen to have newfangled components with this funny looking jack called "S VIDEO". Like the PC-3V, the PC-SV1 includes our same high quality plastic strain relief and high-end-looking gold connector. With the PC-SV1, you'll receive superior video performance because it has more wires dedicated to transmitting pictures than the PC-3V.

http://www.smarthome.com/images/8352big.jpg

Also introducing the PATZCABLES PC-SVOneHalf. It's a high-quality S-video cable with a connector on just one end! Handy for those folks who lack an S-video jack on either their source component or their TV. Just hard wire it in!

http://www.smarthome.com/images/851046side.jpg

And for the standard disclaimer, in case you guys haven't figured it out yet, yes this is a joke.

hey guys I just got back from looking at what other laptops there are out there at the moment in my price range. Seems if i want to switch over I have to drop down from a 2.4 GHz to a 2 or 1.9 GHz, loose the three year warrenty and pay alittle more. I would gain a CDRW drive and in one laptop I'd get built in wireless which isn't a big deal now that I bought the PCMCIA card. Ones a sony Viao the others a Toshiba. The sony looked quick nice but the toshiba has the nvidea video card which would be much better for games. That said I don't remember when I last had time to play a game and I tried UT last night on this dell at 1024 and it was fine. 3DMark scores were only around 1500 though so its pretty slow in that regard. I did manage to find a USB to Serial adapter that works properly though so that's at least taken care of. I now just have to return the one I got from Smell. I haven't decided yet if I going to keep this Dell or not...I guess I have a few hours to decided (long story that involves the loan I'm getting though work and year end etc)

I got to spend from 11am to 4:30 in a meeting and we're no where near finished so I expect I'll be back in a meeting part of tomorrow:(

Kevin, those are some spiffy cables. I do not think that those will be competition for E-cables though. With your cables, you really need a 2nd grade education to be able to read them. The 'E-Cables' are less threating! I don't need to know how to read to hook them up. I guess we are going after two different markets!

J (and that why E and I don't write out our entire names, we don't know how too!)

The 'E-Cables' are less threating! I don't need to know how to read to hook them up.Sheesh, I just get them on the market and I already get negative reviews. I'll have you know that my PC-CV3 has THREE wires, where the E-cables has only TWO. You may think OH WHOOPEE, but just think, for your DVD-A application you would have only needed two PC-CV3s, instead of three E-cables.

Oh and I have to mention how PatzCables are shipped. We don't bother with expensive wood crate boxes or 2 ply wrap, we simply stuff the cable into a puffy envelope and mail it out! This saves significant shipping costs for our customers. We have economy shipping as well, for those who don't want to pay extra for a puffy envelope. In this case we simply apply postage to the cable itself.

Sheesh everyone's getting into the cable market. All it serves is to make my choice so much harder, what with all these quality units around...

Kevin, I take it Heather is ok?

Andrew, I really like the Toshiba laptops and if I was to get one I would probably get one of those. I like the Sony's scroll wheel as well.

Kevin, I'm glad the report on Heather was good. I hope she comes home soon.Hopefully tomorrow. They're keeping her overnight since she's still a bit light headed. I think it's a virus since co-workers have mentioned people they know having similar symptoms and having them be sick for a week or so.

WHAT IS THE STICKY RADIO BUTTON? Can somebody 'splain it to me? I haven't seen a sticky button anywhere in my travels but I'm guessing it makes the thread "sticky", as in it stays at the top of the thread list even if there are no new posts. Useful for admin announcements or "important" threads, or of course, TTP :)

Come on and join the fun guys. Everyone should start a cable biz. Heck, everyone else is in it now I think.

The Sticky radio-button is visible for administrators/Moderators only... (Please don't missuse!!)
The idea is to be able to have an announcement post in a thread that will stay on top (eg. be sticky)
Typical sticky post can by special rules for a specific forum...

Yeah, did a Joey6P. I was just cliking on my bookmark to the old site. It didn't occur to me, until just now to try the main site and link through.

Now it's time to do some testing.

Mats: Nice work.

Trev: Congrats on the new Pi title, it won't last for long.

Kevin: Hope Heather is fealing better.

George: Hope the dentist was gentle. You don't want to hear what my brother inlaw had to go through.

I went to a cool morning seminar on storgage technologies. Real cool stuff on SAN's and NAS and finally using some inteligent software to manage storage. I love it when they have a techie guy do the presentation, cause he aint no salesguy.

Bing: Hmm, looks like you'll take over the Pi lead once you install your Barton. Say do you know if Nero and DirectCD can coexist on the same machine? I had some of my backups done using DirectCD and I just loaded Nero and of course they don't recognize the CD.

Erik: Congrats on finishing another course. Only 3 more to go. You had me going there on your E-cables.

Sonnie: My condolenses to you and family.

But how about Alias? OMG! This show just keeps getting better and better. It's still my favourite. 24 is still a great show, #2 in my books. But jesh, Kim, why didn't you just run?

Okay, not sure what the deal is with the editing feature, so here's a post pad.

I also got my second monitor installed and working properly. Ah, that's the way it ought to be. But, the second 17" just takes up too much space! I think a nice 15" LCD is in order. I'd love to move up to a bigger monitor, but that will have to wait.

Burke Strickland
03-28-2003, 05:58 AM
I think a nice 15" LCD is in order. Sounds like a great idea! That's a really good size -- about the same effective usable screen real estate as a a 17" CRT monitor and takes up SOOO much less space on the desk and doesn't look like an upended football field. :>) I was afraid it might be a compromise when I got mine, but with a reasonably high contrast ratio, color rendition and readability are right up there with the 17" bulk-o-rama it replaced, and with its sleek footprint, looks really cool too -- very "high tech".

The prices on the 15" ones have really dropped, too. Almost makes me sick to think what I paid for mine (Philiips 150B2) a year ago compared to what I could get a comparable or better one for today, but isn't that almost always the story with computers? :>) Meanwhile, it's been a joy to use for a year, and will continue to serve me well even when the computer underneath it takes over door stop duty in a couple of years. :>)

Enjoy!

Hey Paul.. I have heard that Direct CD and Nero don't play well together, however it may depend on what versions are installed. I have both Nero and Direct CD/Easy CD creator installed and so faw so good. I have used both. One thing is if I want to use Nero, I must start the application before I insert the blank CD, otherwise Direct CD thinks it's for packet writing and will automatically load. Now I suppose I could disable Auto start, but then that takes away some of the functionality of Driect CD.

Easy CD/Direct CD ver 5.3.1.154
Nero ver 5.5.10.15

All you nsuper PC networks geeks out there... I was wondering if you could recommend a good book to read inorder to learn about basic networking.I don't want something to deep that will put me to sleep, however I do need some sort of a primer that explains various aspects of networks, protocalls, etc... This net work on the UofS campus is one big mutha and I would like a better understanding of it. Thanks

TGIF folks!

Heather's still at the hospital. Hopefully they'll let her out today, but she didn't sleep well last night, her stomach is still bothering her. She's starting to eat more though, but this must be a nasty bug she got.

I'm getting spam on my work email again. Our old domain, which wasn't receiving email for months, started "working" all of a sudden again, and despite 6 months of bounced emails, spammers still send stuff to the address. Oh goody. Corporate has a spam filter but apparently it doesn't work as well as I'd like it to.

Here's a doozer I got today:

Email sent for: (email address removed)

(Image of scantily clad blonde removed, more info on this below)

Hi and kisses, i'm Pamela and i love show me live.... -:) (All your base are belong to us... and she can't even do an emoticon right!)
wanna see me online rigth now? (No)
CLICK MY PIC OR CLICK HERE (Note that the CLICK HERE is a link that downloads an EXECUTABLE file! More on this below)

Pamela Status: ONLINE

To unsubscribe clik here and send empty email (better yet, maybe I should "clik here" and send viruses!)

. Obviously "Pamela" be wel edjakated.

Note that we have Lotus Notes for our email at work. By default, HTML email is rendered and IMG tags are processed as such, downloading pics from the web and displaying them. Of course, if spam has naughty images, or images that when accessed notifies the spammer that I viewed the spam, well that's a bad thing, especially on my work computer. I figured out how to get Notes to access the web through my stealth proxy so unwanted images no longer download. But Miss Blondie still showed up. I had to dig around in Notes and find its image cache and clean it out (and it had crap from years ago in it). So now I am clean as far as dirty pics on my puter.

Now on to that link. It downloaded an executable, which appeared to be a dialer. It probably dials up a pr0n BBS somewhere. I went onto my linux box and downloaded the file so I could do some forensics on it (e.g. scan it with Norton and Ad-Aware), and both reported the file as clean. I didn't dare to run it though.

Well, thanks to my Junkbuster Stealth(tm) technology, I'm safe from nasty spam images and links now. If I start getting these at home I'll have to install my stealth stuff at home too. Or better yet, get cracking on my spam filter!

Hey, I actually accomplished a goal today! :-y No, not actual work, but I fixed a nagging issue with my Stealth(tm) system. Sometimes stealthing a page can cause javascript errors; I found a way to tell the browser to ignore them so I don't get those annoying error boxes. My stealthing proxy adds the appropriate code to any page it stealths now.

Yahoo Mail was one place where these errors would pop up everywhere when using stealth. Not anymore! :B Also my code to block the colorbar on the HTG reply page was causing a javascript error. Not anymore! :B

Yesterday I found and fixed a bug which was causing the proxy to crash on occasion. It just keeps getting better and better ;)

CRAP! Just missed another one. I started out strong on flips this TTP, but keep missing them now.

Still holding at 25 members to go.

Kevin, glad Heather's coming home!

TGIF, all.

I flew late last night, air refueling at night. That was TOUGH. I've only got a week left, so I've got to figure out how I'm going to get me, my Jeep, and my sports car all the way from Oklahoma back to WA. I had a flatbed car trailer to haul around the sports car, but somebody stole it from storage while I was in Germany.     :wtf: :M ;-x

I went to the local U-Haul, and they want $716 to rent me a crappy car trailer one way from here to WA. :E No way--if I'm going to spend that much, I might as well keep the trailer. So I'm going to look around this weekend to see if I can find a decent flatbed trailer for sale instead, either here in Oklahoma or down in Dallas.

Wish me luck!

Chris, congrats on the night refuelling - that had to be seriously stressful! That's a bummer about your trailer, although there's generally a good number of trailers listed for sale in the Dallas Morning News. Could you rent one of the bolt on towing hitches from U-Haul and just pull the car itself?

Good luck.

I'm re-posting this since we've started a new page:

As part of the new features on the BB, I want to create a list of the top 25 movies (movies not DVD's) for HTGuide members. By "top" I mean the movies that affected you the most when you saw them, that have you coming back again and again. See what you think about my list. . . . Please post your replies in this thread (http://www.htguide.com/CFBoards/index.cfm?fuseaction=Threads.viewthread&Tid=63595&Forum=33&StartRow=1&CFB=1). Thanks for playing!

I put up another flip picture, my MG Head OTL. The other pic supposedly wasn't working (according to Mats) and I can't safely verify it from work so my tube amp will have to do until I find Ms. Blondie Babe from home tonight... 8O

Poker Lady is back in the flip position! Wait, that didn't come out right... 8O

David- Unfortunately, my sports car needs to be completely off the ground. It's an all wheel drive model, very low clearance, (heavily modified) and really does have to be trailered.

Hehe -- I wondered if anyone else was thinking something like that. (It's pretty funny in print, too.) I first thought she has quite a pair, but then noticed she's holding four-of-a-kind. :>) Once you make it to the face, :>) she kind of looks like a blonde LivTyler.

I first thought she has quite a pair, but then noticed she's holding four-of-a-kind. :>)Actually she's holding a full house--three 9s and two 10s. At least I think that's a full house... it's something in poker, but I'm not a poker guy so I dunno... :)

Actually she's holding a full house--three 9s and two 10s OK -- the 10 of clubs in her hand looked like a 9 on first glance. I'll have to admit I was paying more attention to what was behind her hand. :>) So my original statement stands -- "she has quite a pair". :>)

The car? Okay... it's a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4--the twin turbo model. It's heavily modified with all sorts of bolt-on replacement items from bigger turbos to bigger fuel injectors, intercoolers, fuel pump, exhaust, redone intake, body springs, brakes, etc, etc. Since it's an all-wheel drive with all-wheel steering (yes, all four wheels turn) it's difficult to find a dyno to measure the power. But we're currently estimating about 575 hp. Right now, she's getting a new computerized fuel control system that replaces the stock ECU, and it was about time so I also rebuilt the transmission and put in a new clutch and lightweight aluminum flywheel.

She and I were featured in the June 1998 issue of Turbo Magazine, chasing a U-2 spyplane down the runway. Beautiful 6 page color spread.

I don't have any pictures online to show you guys, unfortunately.

It's weird, but my company's firewall blocks out the Reply page nowadays, so I can't post to the TTP anymore from work. Oh well! I guess Lex has some questionable content on the Reply page. LOL!

The firewall is a really PITA too.

Oh, I did get my RPTV set calibrated this past week, and it's looking pretty sweet now! Got my grayscale fixed, colors balanced, geometry squared away, and the convergence zoomed in tightly. Life is good.

Are you referring to the hackers on the Al-Jazeera website? I laughed my a$$ off when I heard about that one. Some 15 year old sitting at his computer fighting for a cause, most likely.
