Whadda ya mean one of my FOUR flips doesn't count?!?!?!?! This means war! Oh wait, George already has the military out of country doesn't he? This means war - later, maybe? I demand a recount. I was in the right place a the right time and you little whiny boys are going to try and say I don't get my valid (started at 33 on every one of 'em) FOUR flips? Hah. FOUR. Mine. Suck it up.

Okay, I'm all better now. Or so I thought. . .

Had my yearly eye exam this afternoon. Found out my left eye had gone from 25/20 to 60/20 in one year - cataracts. So, May 6th I'm getting my left eye lens removed and replaced by an artificial one.

Name that pic.
It is either the Reliant Astrodome in Houston after its latest facelift or the Georgia Dome in Atlanta... and if that is where you will be going to the convention, I hope it is the one in Houston... it would be great to introduce you to the Houston gang! But since they aren't really using the Astrodome for anything much these days now that Reliant Stadium and its new conference facility has opened, I have a feeling you are headed for Atlanta.

Morning guys...continuing on the spending spree I just ordered the digital camera...I'm not waiting for the nikon guy anymore...which of course means he'll email me tomorrow

Anyway I ended up finding this site (http://www.cameracanada.com/index.asp) (CameraCanada) that I was able to get the model up from what I was looking at for the same cash with expresspost shipping for $10...seems like a very good place to deal with so far. I'll keep you posted but Trevor you might want to bookmark that site for your next camera upgrade ;)

Ok everyone, it's TGIFF (that's Thank Goodness It's Finally Friday!)

Leave it to Burke to consider using a tower as a center channel. :-y

Pr@, DUDE! :-y You got a Dell! You're making my Dell feel inadequate, it's a measly 1 Ghz P3. I've never tried running SETI on my laptop, but judging from running other CPU hogs on it the machine will get hot, the CPU fan will kick on and your battery life will suffer. But I guess you could run SETI on it if it's plugged in and not in your lap. :) And you got a digital camera too! Must be nice to have money. Enjoy it now as you won't have any after Junior makes his/her/its grand appearance in a month or so. 8O

Hap-E, nice new house you're building for the to-be-homeless TTPers. Where is the home theater going?

Chris, the bachelor thing would be more fun if I wasn't married. :) Cool on air refueling! It must be tricky. It shows how skilled a pilot you are though! All I know about air refueling I learned from watching Air Force One, and in that case the tanker blew up! 8O

Bing, good job on fixing Trevor's PC! If he isn't home after 3 delivery attempts I'll take it!

Paul, hope you feel better soon, and you need to send your PC to Bing for fixing.

Trevor, dude, I started on the website last night. I'll let you know when I have a sample available for viewing.

What the heck is a Barton? Some new fangled CPU? I'm behind the times.

David, bummer on the cataracts. Think of it as a vision upgrade. :)

Mats, a TEST POST on TTP? Isn't that a violation of TTP By-laws? :??

And finally, what's new with K. Not much. I didn't get to that guy's house last night on account of the weather and all the idiots on the road who can barely keep a car on dry pavement, never mind a coating of snow and ice. We'll be going there tonight, and maybe I'll have a little consulting gig.

Later folks... K

Well that's one reason why I'm buying them now...the laptop is on an interest free loan from work and my parents are paying for half the camera so we can send them lots of pictures...trust me you very likely make twice what I do (seriously)...we just happen to own our car and we bought a house that wasn't to expensive that we were house poor...ie no pool;)

trust me you very likely make twice what I do (seriously)...we just happen to own our car and we bought a house that wasn't to expensive that we were house poor...ie no pool;)Maybe now but after the next round of layoffs you'll be making infinitely more than me, and our house was pretty cheap too (under $100k in 1998) even with the pool. There's no finding a house at that price 'round here nowadays. It's a good thing we bought when we did or else we'd be living in Sonnie's goat barn now. :)

Does Glenda work? Two incomes makes a big difference. Heather works part time but doesn't make much, it's just spending money for herself. Most of the living expenses including the mortgage payment comes out of my paycheck.

Glenda does work but she's laid off for a few months each summer so that hurts...and $100K US would have been bought us a huge house here in Winnipeg...ours was WAY less then that and luckily our prop. tax's are very reasonable as well;)

How big is your house, in square feet? The price you paid wouldn't buy a foundation around here. You must have a lower cost of living in Winnipeg. You need a Trevor-sized income to afford anything decent around here.

We have a pool in the backyard (pools don't really help with property values in NH) but we don't have a garage or basement. A house with those features were out of our price range back then, and especially now. Property taxes are outrageous in NH but we don't have a sales or income tax (yet)...

Sung to the tune as an old familiar kids song:

If you know your boss is stupid, clap your hands (clap, clap)
If she's stupid and you know it, then your face will surely show it...
If you know your boss is stupid, clap your hands (clap, clap)

Sorry it took me so long to get to work.

News about E...

Went and had Coff-E today and found out something very interesting. First I want to preface this by saying that even thought E has to work more hours per week, he left his job early yesterday, around 3 and then does not have to go to work today. Must be a really strenuous job!

E realized this morning that he is NOT going to be 30 but 29. Yes, Andrew hit it right on the nose. So what does that say to you? To me it says that mentally he is at least twice as old as he thinks!

We had a good laugh over that this morning.

I guess it will take E one more year to join the rest of us on the Dark Side. Should we call him "Little Annie"?

It's weird, but I can't post to the HTG while I'm at work.

I get this page that truncates everything after the box above with "Current Time/Date".

Anyhow, TGIF means nothing to me since I have to go into work tomorrow. Bah!

I had to compromise just like everyone else. We have all of our stereo componets in the den while our tv and speakers are in the family room. I will try and get some pictures up if you guys want to see them.

Pat the manual modes were what really attracked me to the Canon. I need something that I can do dark indoor shots with and have some fun with. The fact that it can do video with audio will be fun to play with as well for sending small video's of the kid to the grandparents etc.

BTW, I formated NTFS tonight, reinstalled Windows, but then went ahead and reinstalled from the Ghost image copy completely to a point early in my reconfiguration. All is smooth at this point, all data back to the main drive "current". Going to run a new ghost before I go to bed tonight. Hopefully, from here, things can get better.

Then as soon asI get unburned out on it, I'll begin recovery process again.

RED ALERT BING

Hi Guys!!

Well, Bing was over tonight and brought back my new refurbished computer. Bing showed what he had done and how to copy my files to disc ETC..Basically reset up.

Anyways!!..About 30 minutes after he left..
The computer shuts down and restarts only to show that same message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.

System 32 Drivers NTFS.SYS

I have turned off the Computer and have left it as is.
I do not want to touch it right now and mess it up.

I am just in shock..Bing spent a lot of time working on it to get it fixed and this happens.
It must be the hard drive is really toast.

Bing,,I will wait to hear your thoughts on this.

So much for my being on track, I'm screwed again. :(

I loaded this recovery program I bought, and that's when it happened, damn thing went back right like it was! I also noticed that the ghost image somehow changed the file system from ntfs to fat. Not what I wanted. So, no more ghost to this drive. However, I can use the ghost explorer to select only directories I want. Damnit, now here I sit, I've bought this software, and their site says no refunds. Of course, I could dispute the charge, that their product did not deliver. Maybe that could work. I don't know.

They may have me on a technicality, who knows. There are 2 parts to this process, and it's possible that it's only the last part that messes it up. So, I may try to reinstall it first, and not install the delete part and see what it does. If it's hosed, start over one more time, if it's not, then continue. Geesh.

Trevor, misery loves company. Bummer pal. :(

Anyway, what we will have to do is install windows on the other hard drive for now. The good news is we have a back up of the drive.

Sorry to hear as well Lex.... Maybe the TTP group mean time to failure (MTF) is approaching the TTP gang and we should all get new hard drives (knock, knock on wood)

Trev, if you want I can come buy tomorrow evening and have it fix in a jiff.

Don't sweat it buddy.. we'll get it going. I feel bad that it died on you again after I signed off on it. I would like to say that it is a conflict, however my instincts tell me it is HD related do to the fact that what is creating the boot error is a missing or corrupt file This leads me to believe the HD is creating the error when it logs the file during shut down. We can try some other stuff, but I strongly suspect the Harddrive. Any thoughts from the other TTP guys? Maybe some bad memory is creating the problem?

Pat, thanks! Trev and I alos did a post mortum on the interview and he really made we feel a bit better about it in the end.

Jeff, hey! Sorry about Bingtech, but I had to take down my stuff for my webhost was complianing about the traffic on it. They stated I would have to upgrade to the $30 month package if the traffic remained.. Needless to say I had to take most of it off line for the shor tterm

I edited your post so the code displays correctly. If you use &lt; and &gt; in place of the angle brackets it'll display as intended. :)

Another way to redirect to another site is with something like this:

<META http-equiv="REFRESH" content="1; URL=http://new url goes here"> Change the 1 to a number of seconds delay before the redirect occurs. This way you can have a page that says "This site has moved! You'll be taken to the new location in 5 seconds" or whatever. You should also provide a hyperlink to the new location in case the user's browser doesn't support the refresh meta tag.

Thanks for the info on the alternate redirect method i'll be able to use that.

Sweet rig, Price as configuered?
I think all said and done it came in at $2300 cdn shipped. At the time they had a free shipping promo and a free 32 meg USB memory stick. I believe the new promo is double your ram or upgrade the hard drive....personally I'd rather get the free shipping since I can always upgrade ram later but if I'd had to pay shipping it would have meant I'd have had to cut out something else...like the onsite warrenty etc to keep within budget.

But seriously, why a high end laptop, you think you will prefer full time laptop use to a desktop? Myself, I went with the laptop in the 1500 US range. I like my performance desktop for much of my work. Laptop bogs me down on that stuff.

Do NOT NOT NOT get a MAXTOR or QUANTUM DRIVE!!!

Here's what you get:

Western Digital drive with 8 meg cache.

Be careful though, there are WD drives with 2 meg cache out there as well, but you want the 8 meg!!! BEST DRIVE out there right now.

Trev, You may want to hold off on the drive until I have alook at it, for it may be memory as well. Unless that is you want to add more Hard drives anyway

If you do, get yourself one of those Western Digital JB 8mb drives either in the 80Gb or 120GB version. I have the 120GB and it almost as fast as my 2x40GB Maxtor ATA133 RAID array. I notice the Western Digital does have a higer pitched whine over the Maxtors, but its slight. Or you could get your self one of those snazzy serial ATA Seagate Barracudas and take advantage of your mother boards serial ATA. Be aware though that the prelinminary test show the SATA drives to be slightly slower than the ATA100 standard. not sure why this is, but it maybe becuase of the drives are not quite mature enough.

I have to help out my Bother Inlaw today with his kitchen. We are mounting new cabinets.

Would you like me to come over after supper at all Trev?

Your daughters are just as sweet as can be Trev and that just made my day... shoot, I have tears welling up in my eyes thinking about it. Thanks to them :smootch:

Thanks fo the server link Mats, now I'm kinda embarrassed that my site has not been updated since Nov 2002.

Trev, it's not storage space that is the problem, the web host is complaining that I'm getting more than 2Gb of traffic a month. this tells me I need to pare down my picture files or somthing to minimize the amount of stuff that gets loaded. basically a re-do.

Andrew, that is a great price on the Dell!

Seriously Trevor. My dual machine had a long delay when you right clicked on anything on the desktop, right click on the start button, just about anything with the Maxtor drives. Those were NEW drives less than 1 year ago. 7200 rpm drives. With the WD, ALL of that delay is gone. I'd always thought it was something quirky about the dual CPU board or something. I never dreamed that it was my hard drives. Had I known? I'd have chunked those things months ago, and saved myself a failure. :(

Anyway, I've lost 2 Quantums and 1 Maxtor in the last year, so take it from experience, get the WD. I could have a WD go out tomorrow, but by goodness I will be backed up to a second drive from now on and you should be too.

Doug $1500 USD = $2300 cdn so we paid the same amount:) I needed a laptop for this pronto programing when I'm off site and for traveling. I tend to spend a fair number of hours flying each year or in hotel rooms while I'm on the road so having a portable DVD player/laptop/internet acces etc will be very handy.

While I'm at home I'll plug in a full sized keyboard and mouse etc so that won't be that big a change. The monitor size is going to drop though to 15" which won't be good but again I guess I could always buy another 17" monitor if need be down the road.

I've had quite a lot of sucess using the fujitsu hard drives but those western digitals are nice drives too.

Bob and jim were talking over lunch when bob says that he's going to take the afternoon off. Jim exclaims that their boss will never give bob the time off but bob interjects saying that it won't be a problem just watch. A moment later their boss comes walking up to find Bob hanging from the rafters...the boss asks him what he's doing up there to which bob replies that he's a light bulb! Their boss says that he's obviously under a lot of stress and should go home for the afternoon. While bob's putting on his jacket the boss notices that Jims also putting on his jacket so he asks Jim what he's doing....to which jim replies well you don't expect me to work in the dark do you? ;)

Hey, kids!

I'm driving down to the north end of Kentucky on Saturday.

Is anyone on here along my route, which goes south from Winnipeg to Fargo, ND - then east to Minneapolis, then continues east in Wisconsin, then somewhere along there I turn south and go by Chicago (well 30 or 40 miles west of it), then I think I hit.... well, here's a map of it. I end up about 25 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Map:

I'd love to stop off and check out your system for a break, or grab your couch on Saturday night if you're about half ways there (it's a 20 hour drive and I can't afford a motel at this time - :( )!

What are you thinking putting the center channel on the floor? :??
Why is the sub is in the middle of the listening area?
Looks like too much toe in on the right main.

I now have an Awesome PC thanks to Bing!! :amen:

The new A7N8X board is now installed in a Cool Blue server case with a SEE-THRU door!,,A couple of Blue neon fans light up the inside. I will get some pictures taken tonight to show it.

Best of all though!,,My computer works. I am posting this from the new PC.
Bing ran a memory tester on the ram and it became evident that one of the memory chips was toast as it did not pass any of the tests but did show nothing but errors.
So far, everything is running as it should be.

Trev, is it something like ftp://members.shaw.TTP:yourpassword.ca ? I'm not saying that's what it is, I'm just trying to jog your memory.

Thanks Andrew, Trev is truely a Genteman! His daughters are just like him as well :)

Thanks Trev, with out you I would just be a one PC, cave computer owner. The funny thing was I didn't realize I had a bottleneck in my system until Trev got ahold of me

40C is a good temp Trev, I would bet the new 80mm fan is cooler than that loud assed 7000 screamer. Actually here are the specs on them:

60mm Delta Black Label (Old fan) is 6800 RPM , 37.61 CFM @ 46.5 dB. Link Here (http://www.thecardcooler.com/delta_black_label_fan_specificat.htm)

80mm Sunon 3200 RPM, 42.5 CFM @ 36.5 dB Link here (http://www.power-on.com/sunon4pin80mm.html)

Another program you may want to run instead of Asus probe is Motherboard Monitor. That way you can always have a dashboard on your desktop showing you what the running parameters are. It's totally customizable monitoring program. It also loads an icon in your system tray that pops up a small information ballon showing you the system temps if you place your mouse cursor ontop of the system tray icon. Totally cool!

http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/desktop1s.jpg (http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/desktop1.jpg)

Click on the image to see my full sized desktop with MotherBoard Monitor Dashboard running. It's docked to the edge of my main screen , middle of the image (if that made sense) the reason my desktop is so wide is because of my dual monitor display. The resolution is 1600x1200, however I guess its actually 3200x1200 Whoo-Hoo

If your using IE6, be sure to click the actual size button on the lower edge of the image once it's loaded.

You can download Motherboard Monitor 5 Here (http://mbm.livewiredev.com) If you use it just disable windows start up of Asus probe in the Asus probe configuration menu. You can still load Asus probe if you want by starting it in the Start menu anytime. I use MM5 full time.

Hehe Burke, good one :) Actually it's "All your BASS are belong to us..." as Trev would say ;)

Funny--our first official "widescreen" TV in 16:9 format is only 13" diagonalThirteen inches is the effective diagonal measurement of a 16:9 image on my 14 inch Toshiba. (Flat screeen, but not flat panel.) After AVIA calibration, it actually is not bad at all watching a movie with that size image... and I'd still much rather see the whole movie frame even at that size than "fill the screen" with P & S.

xx) xx) Morning folks! xx) xx)

And yes, since it's St. Patrick's day, the xx) smiley is appropriate in more ways than one! 1) It's OSIM, 2) as Scotty would say, "it's gleen", 3) lots of drinking takes place on this day, and :boozer: leads to xx)

We had a busy weekend. We saw Agent Cody Banks on Saturday, it was a fun movie and has the potential to be a great DVD. Lots of surround and LFE-potential scenes (I say potential since this theater's sound system didn't do the movie justice). Sunday Heather had her regional basketball tournament, her team lost all four games but they put up a fight. As usual Heather scored lots of baskets, and I kept score on my laptop. It's good that I bought a new battery, because now I can install both batteries and get 6+ hours without having to find an outlet.

So Lex, how much did those new speakers set you back anyway? If you can spare another $4400 you can get a pair of these (http://www.divertech.com/hurricane200dt.html) and use your new speakers in your 2 channel system!

What's funny, but lately when I hang out on these forums I've been reading and participating in the 2-channel audio related threads more than the HT related stuff. Maybe it's just a phase I'm going through (or maybe phase distortion ;) ) or just because there hasn't been much new in the HT arena lately. I'd love to have a killer 2 channel system like Lex but I can only afford to dream at this point. My present system is no slouch on 2 channel though, I was listening to some CDs last night and you know something's right when I can close my eyes and it sounds like the center channel is on when it isn't. :)

Oh well, another week another quarter, I should get this build into QA for what it's worth. Later folks... KJP

C'mon, you only live once. Be Trevor for a day! 8O

And from the mouth of babes comes... (the little tyke type, not the :boobies: 8O type...)

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah."
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."
................................................................
A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
With no hesitation, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."
...............................................................

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy Father and thy Mother," she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill."
..............................................................

A three-year-old went with his dad to see a litter of kittens. Upon returning home, he breathlessly informed his mother that there were two boy kittens and two girl kittens.
"How did you know?" his mother asked.
"Daddy picked them up and looked underneath," he replied. "I think it's printed on the bottom."
...............................................................

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture.
"Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grownup and say, 'There's Jennifer; she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael. He's a doctor.'"
A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher. She's dead."
...............................................................

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face."
The class nodded in agreement.
"Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position, the blood doesn't run into my feet?" the teacher asked.
A little fellow shouted, "'Cause your feet aren't empty."

Hey Lex, have you ever made any 50-foot interconnects? 8O It's funny, a co-worker came to me and asked how feasible it is to run "50 foot audio cables", as he wants to hook his PC up to his stereo/HT system to play MP3s. Then he pointed to my ASL MG Head amp and asked me "Are those Monster cables?" 8O CHA RIGHT  Let's just say I introduced him to the Catcables website. :)

Howdy gents!

Went to the cabin in Florala this weekend to help get ready for the horseshoe tourny coming up the 29th. It was a huge work day on Saturday.

Was catching up on TTP but most of the posting looks like a computer forum with computer problems. Lex and Trev, hope your problems get worked out soon..... my suggestion: GET A DELL!

Then half a page about bombs? Wonder how many secret agents have been scoping these pages of late? lol We are all being watched I bet.

Bing, that's one truly awesome computer you got yourself. I really like it. :T

Eduardo, I suppose you got your car dried out. Sunroofs are good for washing your car out.

We have had some kind of rain down this way and more to come. While temps are mostly high 70's and low 80's all week (nothing like George's heatwave), it is not without lakes of rain fallin'.

David, when did you take that pic of my still? No one is suppose to know about that. lol Oh, sorry to learn about your eye, are you really gonna be one-eyed here soon? That doesn't sound to good man. Were you joking?

Now, about Sweet Home Alabama... we finally watched it Saturday night (even though I was very tired).

The pictures at the beginning of the show are in Greenville, AL., which is only 20-25 miles from our house in Luverne. There were a few pics from Georgiana, AL., which is about the same distance from us. The Pigeon Creek pics are a set.... there might have been a pic from Pigeon Creek but for the most part it was a set. The street dance scene is definitely a set. There are no bars or lounges around here that look like the one in the movie so those were probably sets as well. There is no glass company around these parts so I suspect that was a set as well. The home that her husband lived in by the lake is from Tuscaloosa, AL., (home of our Crimson Tide football team), I believe.... not absolute on this. The mobile homes were probably from Georgiana or Greenville.... definitely Alabamish.... lol

I liked the Jewel version of the song Sweet Home Alabama at the end.

Kevin, have you seen this movie? What did ya think about that cat at the end? hee hee That was funny they decided to show the cat.

Andrew -- Great photo for St. Paddy's Day! I gather the flip "moratorium" is over now. :>) When I was a kid (elementary school age) I found a four leaf clover, and to show how lucky that was, when I was showing it to some of the other kids on the block, the neighbohood bully grabbed it and pulled off one of the leaves and said "clover is only supposed to have three leaves".

Bing -- Interesting screen shots, but how do you know that about Lex's Johnson? >)

Kevin -- I'll bet Lex would be happy to accept a three year trial loan from you of those tube amps you've been telling him about. :>) Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the "Out of the Mouths of Babes" jokes enough to share them here....

Sonnie -- Interesting how "Sweet Home Alabama" hit so close to home, at least location-wise. Still can't figure out if the movie is worth seeing as anything more than a picture postcard, though. :>)

Kevin, thanks for correcting that mistake in judgement on cable brands, lol. Yes, I have built 50 foot audio cables. I won't do 50 foot video though at least not with my silver coax. Results have not been great at those lengths. Bad thing is for audio, your driving the capacitance through the roof, and pushing resistance up as well. The quality of the transmission across 50 feet won't be great. Myself, I'd just as soon not fool with them really.

My general rule of thumb is I don't build anything over 25 feet unless it's a component video. I have done those longer successfully.

I told him to use a well shielded cable and avoid getting too close to any electrical wiring since it can pick up hum.

If it were me, I'd put a sound card with SPDIF output and run digital coax to the HT (how well does that work at 50+ feet?) Or better yet, add a PC to my network near the HT and run shorter cables to it. Of course, real audiophiles don't listen to MP3s on their system. :p:

OSIM, all, and Happy St. Patty's Day.

I don't feel all that great about this Monday, though, given current events. Although sometimes necessary, war is never a good or happy thing. We'll all find out more tonight.

Andrew/George: Yup, you hit the nail on the head there. I've had similar concerns about putting the little TV in the humid environment of a bathroom. In the manual, it specifically says (of course) to not use right next to water. Maybe I'll start a thread on this elsewhere in the guide. But I have three ideas of ways to combat this:

1. Build the TV into the wall or some sort of soffit in the corner protecting it from direct water contact

2. Mount it in a place away from the actual water in the tub, sink, etc, to again avoid water splash as much as possible.

3. My wife says she always leaves the bathroom door open anyway when taking a bath, etc, which would help with the humidity and steam

Don't know... input?

joke time

Into a Belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy, looking like he'd just been run over
by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and
bruised and he's walking with a limp.
"What happened to you?" asks Sean, the bartender.
"Jamie O'Conner and me had a fight," says Paddy.
"That little shit, O'Conner," says Sean, "He couldn't do that to you, he
must have had something in his hand."
"That he did," says Paddy, "a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin'
he gave me with it."
"Well," says Sean, "you should have defended yourself, didn't you have
something in your hand?"
"That I did," said Paddy. "Mrs. O'Conner's breast, and a thing of beauty it
was, but useless in a fight."
============================================
Three Irishmen, Paddy, Sean and Shamus, were stumbling home from the pub
late one night and found themselves on the road which led past the old
graveyard.
"Come have a look over here," says Paddy, "It's Michael O'Grady's grave, God
bless his soul. He lived to the ripe old age of 87."
"That's nothing", says Sean, "here's one named Patrick O'Tool, it says here
that he was 95 when he died."
Just then, Shamus yells out, "Good God, here's a fella that got to be 145!"

"What was his name?" asks Paddy?
Shamus stumbles around a bit, awkwardly lights a match to see what else is
written on the stone marker, and exclaims, "Miles, from Dublin."
===========================================
An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city
one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road.
A cop pulls him over. "So," says the cop to the driver, "where have ya
been?"
"Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk.
"Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this
evening."
"I did all right," the drunk says with a smile.
"Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across
his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"
"Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd
gone deaf."
===========================================
Brenda O'Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan arrives
at her door.
"Brenda, may I come in?" he asks. "I've somethin'to tell ya."
"Of course you can come in, you're always welcome, Tim. But where's my
husband?"
"That's what I'm here to be tellin' ya, Brenda. There was an accident down
at the Guinness brewery..."
"Oh, God no!" cries Brenda. "Please don't tell me.."
"I must, Brenda. Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I'm sorry."
Finally, she looked up at Tim. "How did it happen, Tim?"
"It was terrible, Brenda. He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout and drowned."

"Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me true, Tim. Did he at least go
quickly?"
"Well, no Brenda... no. Fact is, he got out three times to pee."
============================================
Mary Clancy goes up to Father O'Grady after his Sunday morning service, and
she's in tears.
He says, "So what's bothering you, Mary my dear?"
She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news. My husband passed away last
night."
The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible. Tell me, Mary, did he have any
last requests?"
She says, "That he did, Father.."
The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary?"
She says, "He said, 'Please Mary, put down that damn gun...'
===========================================
A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, enters a confessional booth, sits
down but says nothing.
The Priest coughs a few times to get his attention but the drunk just sits
there.
Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall.
The drunk mumbles, "ain't no use knockin, there's no paper on this side
either".

Although I thought the movie was a pretty good one for the typical love type story, I'm not sure if it would have interested me as much if it had not had ties to Alabama. None the less, it is a winner for Angibug.... she and my sister loved it. In this case it really doesn't matter if I liked it as long as she did. Kevin, well, I've jut had horrible luck selling cables longer than 25 feet. So, I try to avoid it like the plague.

Well, I've carried digital coax about 40 feet I think. While not ideal, it may just work fine. Audio, again, will work, but no guarantees your not loosing some frequency ranges, but like you say, for MP3s, who gives a rats a$$.

3. My wife says she always leaves the bathroom door open anyway when taking a bath, etc, which would help with the humidity and steam

Probably they warn about the proximity to water in the manual to avoid electrical shock.

1) having it protected in a moisture-proof enclosurer may keep it dry, but another layer of glass or plastic will degrade the expensive video image especially if it mists over.

2) If you do end up putting it in the bathroom, of course, you will want to make sure it won't fall in the tub or get splashed from the sink.

3) Opening the door significantly reduces the "fog level" but it is effective only if everyone who ever uses the bathroom leaves the door open. If a guest takes a shower with the door closed, there goes your "moisture control".

You might want to check with the manufacturer and ask them directly if use of the device in a high humidity environment is safe (from both an electrical and a device longevity standpoint) or would affect the warranty in any way.

Burke

PS -- perhaps we'll know more about the impending war with Iraq at 8PM Eastern when President Bush addresses the nation live on TV. I can't imagine he's going on air just to talk about the Medicare drug benefit.

Kevin,,Thanks.
I used one higher level of res than what I normally do to post.
The sweet thing is that on my Monitor I don't have widescreen anymore since I have increased by screen resolution on Bing's demand. ;)

Anyways,,I was going to start a POLL and find out what ever body has their screen resolutions set at.

I'll Start..I am at 1280 x 960 @100HZ
I was previously at 1024x 768

Going forward I will use my usual size images to prevent widescreen.
Sorry about the widescreen. I will leave it as is since we are close to the end of the page.

Thanks,

Bing -- Interesting screen shots, but how do you know that about Lex's Johnson? >)

Burke

 Only speaking from Bing Johnson's experiance....

Sonnie, thanks bubba! Nice to hear your take on Sweet Home Alabama.

Great looking PC in that Hot Rod Blue Trev!!

Just pop that RAM in to Slots 1 & 3 (or 2 & 3 for a more unified look)and leave it as is until the Barton comes in. Once the Barton is in you can up the FSB to 166.

If you want you can up the FSB now to something like 145 and you would be overclocking :) But you don't need to. If it's running then it's all good.

Good to hear the higher resolution is working out for you Trev, In all honesty I'm sorry I ragg on you so much about that resolution.. I just hate seeing a 21" Trinitron go to waste  Given your set up you do sit further away from the screen than I do, so I can see how 1600x1200 may look small to you.

3200x1200 @ 85 Hz is my screen resolution.

So I was offered a job for a 4 month term, with opportunity for permanent... They only want to pay me 3/4's of what I was asking for... I told him I want to meet further with him and disscuss the job scope and benefits before I know if I would accept. I mean if it's something I can do in my sleep, then it's 3/4's more than I'm making now. However if it's like Dungeon Siege stuff then I'll pass.

Trev, you were right... :sn

Well, I'm at 1280 by 1024, with 75 Hz. Not sure what the refresh rate really adds to the picture. It doesn't seem to change mine.

But, I'm currently not able to get anything more than 28.8 Kbps on a GOOD day, while travelling for training, so I do appreciate the pictures of a moderate size.

Go for it!,,After 4 months you will know if it's your thing. at that point too , I would suspect you would get an increase in pay.
Don't forget..It was 18 years to get to your previous salary.
Your already 75% there after one day.. :alol:

Good Stuff Trev! You know you can actually use your own post graphic with the Asus board. You should make one that has "Welcome to the Blue Zone TTP" , it would replace that Asus A7N8X graphic at the post.

Sweet looking computer Trevor!! The blue case is awesome. As for your resolution poll...run at 1024x768 here. It's the resolution of my LCD panel, so not much choice. :) It'd be nice to have a higher res. Unfortunately the larger monitors use 1280x1024, which is not a standard 4:3 ratio, so geometry is off a bit.

Ciao guys.

Kevin P

In answer to the resolution poll:

Main PC: 1024 x 768 (old 17" monitor, looks like crap at higher res)
Laptop: 1400 x 1050

That's a purty PC Trev. Not all of us can afford 3200x1200 monitors, hence the widescreen issue with larger images...

Later folks...KJP

Thanks guys on the PC.
The sweet thing is the Blue neon that shines through the side window. You can't see it in the pictures, but it definately creates a nice Blue glow.

Jeff,,I noticed the Geometry being off in certain resolutions that I tested.

My 1280x 960 seemed to be normal , were is some looked stretched.
What sizes are the best to use for proper geometery alignment?

I did not request a password change. Somebody must have been playing around with my user ID.
I replyed back to Ebay but haven't heard back from them.
I want to know what steps to take next.

The IP Address that is indicated on the E-mail is not mine.

Thanks Andrew! I need some thing to support the parts I'm going to need to upgrade my PC to match this smokin mobo :boozer: Good news on the new camera.. Post a picture of what you bought.

Trev, I'll dig up a walkthough on how to do the post graphic.

On the resolution thang, divide the big number by the small number and it should equal to 1.33 for the geometry to be correct.

ie 1600/1200 = 1.33

Jeff's 1280/1024 = 1.25 making everything look slightly squashed vertically, it's very slight, such that you usually don't notice it unless looking at a geometric circle.

I did not request a password change. Somebody must have been playing around with my user ID.

It wasn't me Trev, honest 8O I would be a bit careful and make sure the web address is infact Ebay and not something close to it. Actually I would go directly to the ebay site and forward that e-mail to them. Don't click on the conveniently placed link in the body of the message just to be safe.

Take a picture of the Blue Zone TTP with your camera on a tripod or something sturdy. Turn the flash off on the camera and you will be able to capture some essence of the blue glow, much more than with the flash on.
