Morning all :later:

Hi Lex, Pat, Andrew :later:

Andrew, that's a good camera and is very high in cult following. You be happy with it at the right price.

Trev, thinking about your PC some more.... Don't do another thing to it for if we can get XP to load we could launch a "System Restore". Provided that restore point has not been corrupted now.

Your last error message "NTLDR is missing " indicates your boot loader is missing. This could be a variety of things, but it's most likely you have set your BIOS to boot from CD only and we need to switch it to boot from SCSI device RAID. It can't find the Hard drive which is on IDE channel 3 (I believe) which is using the onboard RAID ATA 100 controller. Windows by default looks for drives on IDE Channel 1 and during restore or set-up you may have been required to press F6 and then insert a SCSI driver (which I know you have). Still at this point I'm at a loss to know what created the condition. If you had resently installed something, I can say maybe it was that, however if it has been running status quo and then just ups and dies and then gave you all those corrupt files, it's an indicator that the hard drive maybe going south soon.

This of course is just my remote opinion at this point uintill I actually get my hands on it. Anyway, don't do anything else until I get a chance to look at it, OK? :banghead:

Speaking of U2 Streets with No Name, I absolutely love that song and have it in my XBOX as a MP3 (WMA?), one of many. When I play Project Gotham, it really gets me pumped as I'm racing through the streets with that song playing. All Project Gotham Players here will know what I'm talking about :driving:

One song I have been constanly hitting replay on this morning is the Annie Lennox "Waiting in Vain" from the Serendipity Sond Track. I'ts not so much the song, but Annie's voice and the accoustical guitar that I'm absolutely infatuated with this AM.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005OAIA.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

It's been a while since I have seen this show, however the MP3 just randomly came on my PC this morning and I have been playing it since.
Here is the audio Clip (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B00005OAIA001004/0/102-1472798-7772907)

Ok for all you Where the streets have no names fans give this song a listen.

Its a cover of the song by a local celtic band that I really like. Their lead singer used to work for ducks and is a really cool guy. He's not the lead singer in this song though. Anyway they have a bunch of other cool songs here (http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/31/dust_rhinos.html) on MP3.com for you to listen to (I highly recomend Chemical workers)

OSIM, all. :(

Always good to see a U2 revival started among friends. I believe that U2 is good for the soul. Deep, insightful lyrics sung by an awesome voice over magnificent guitar licks, held together by steady bass and tempo. What more could you want?

My all-time favorite song is U2's "Pride" (aka In the Name of Love) and I believe the all-time greatest love song ever written is "With or Without You"--realistic love. Bono's cry at the end of the song is deep from the heart, something I've really only heard from Melissa Ethridge also, I think it's in "Come to My Window"

David- Congrats on the new acquisition!

OSIM -

Lex - Congratulations on 8K post. :T That why you run this show. :D More drive problems :?: 8O

Trev - that's a chilly flip. fortunately for me we are getting to spring. Nice Sunny :sn weather. This is strange as I was not even on the computer when this happenedYour computer found out you wanted an upgrade. :P

Pat asked:Eduardo, how's the ankle?
David asked:Eduardo, you doing better fella? Not really. I didn't give my ankle any rest time this weekend. I was on my feet Sat and Sun. Helped my sister move in to her new house. Probably wasn't the best thing to do for the ankle.

Wow - I think I saw Sonnie. You really need to get after Toshiba.

Pr@ - cool camera

Chris - cool flip. I have been a U2 fan since 1985. I seen them in concert 3 times. All were great shows

Bing - I just got PGR. But I haven't played it yet. I plan to upload a couple songs, can't wait. :D

Kevin - Glad you are enjoying you Tubical system. Play some good music for me.

If I missed anyone Happy Monday :sn <-just for Kevin

How's it going Eduardo? BTW, I fixed the quote tags in your post, since mismatching them causes weird things to happen to the page. What's funny is since I became a moderator here that's the only "moderating" type stuff I've done is fix broken quote tags. :)

:sn :sn :sn Good Morning/Afternoon! :sn :sn :sn

Yea it's Monday but it's all good! :D My morning started off with a dance with my son...he loves music and I came down stairs to find him "swaying" to music....he loves to do that...it's his way of dancing. So I went over to him and he reached out for daddy...I picked him up and we started dancing to the music that was playing, he reached around my neck and layed his head on my shoulders! We swayed and danced and I did not want to go to work this morning...but it is moments like that that make life worth living! 8)

Nice flip Andrew...and camera!

Sonnie: Go run around real fast and your pants will dry out! :P

Bing: Good to hear from you buddy!

Trevor: Here's to your computer gettin' better! :T

Lex: What no new cables of late? How's the Audio Asylum ads going?

George: How are things?

Kev: How's the tubicle system sound with U2?

Chris: When do you fly "for reals?"

Pat: What's new with you too?

Have a great week everyone!

Burke, I mentioned to Jenice last night that she hadn't even asked about my Saturday "excursion". She replied that she knew I'd bought a turntable, and I said "Well, it's a few more things than that." After I'd listed the damage I'd done, she said something to the effect of "Great, I'm glad your spending your money on something you like". Oh and you are sooo right. I'm trying to figure out where to set things up temporarily so I can play with the Aerials and the DAC.

Kevin, even though we'll be in Washington next week, I REALLY don't want to spend my vacation bangin on Erik's head, and vice versa. Nope, not a bit.

Yeah, if you use the intrevenous cables then you don't need the pot..... just hook the tube right up to where the coffee comes out of the strainer.

If ya want to really get the effect then don't use the strainer.

WARNING: The surgeon general says using coffee intrevenously could be hazardous to your health.

Only thing I've noticed is it boils your veins/arteries a little.

Kevin to start off I'm being given a Sharp LCD PJ. It will only do 640 * 480 but has conmponent inputs and is pretty quite compared to most LCD models...or so I"m led to believe. I'm getting this PJ as part of my compensation for some pronto programming I'm doing this may in NYC.

The Denon's now in the rack and I've been listening to its 2 channel capabilites (not DVD-A) and its quite different sounding then the Sony...I haven't decided if its better or worse...its more open sounding which could either be more detail or just bright...it will take some more listening to find out what I really think but going by my first impressions its pretty good.

Does the PJ have component inputs or just RGB or VGA? 640x480 is essentially the same as 480p (720x480 is DVD resolution). If it'll do progressive through component inputs then you can use your DVD player in progressive mode.

http://electronicsemall.com/xvs55usharlc.html

I fired up a DVD to see how the image looked and I must say I'm not impressed at all...there seems to be more detail then the sony which is what I expected but the whole image seems to have a strong red push. It has a built in user mode to fine tune that so I''m going to be pulling out Avia and seeing what I can do about that. I'm curious to see if anyone else see's that with there Denon's.

Andrew: Sounds strange. I'll let you know what I find out when mine arrives. On all the forums and reviews I've read, I've never heard anyone complain of a red push? I'd just go through all the checks, tv and dvd player settings and see what you can find out! Good luck buddy!

Pr@, when you say red push do you mean the entire screen is red or reds on the screen are over-accentuated (e.g. skin appears sunburned)? Normally red push is the latter.

Some player models have a switch on the back, or in the menus or remote, for selecting between S-video and component, and if this is set wrong, you may get a discolored (red or blue) screen on the component outputs.

If you have more questions feel free to post in home theater and I'll try to help out.

g'morning folks. How's things? Lovely here. Just wishing I could figure a way out of the office today. But I guess I'm stuck, sigh.

Boss lady wants to have a lunch for a new guy this week. I was tempted to tell her I'd go to a team lunch when she started treating me like a team member. Instead I went with, I doubt I can go, but go ahead and set a time and date, and if I can be there, I will.

Yeah right. She's still got me emailing what I work on every day, and no apparent end to that in sight. It's a pain in the a$$ and degrading really to be treated like a greenhorn rookie with 14 years experience.

Just keep a copy of the email in your drafts folder or a file and just send "it" the same email every day. Maybe after a month or two of that it'll get a clue.

Or if you work on different things every day, draft an email with all the items you work on on any given day and forward that to it every day.

And make sure that the time spent drafting these emails is reported in the email, especially if she's asking for amount of time spent. Say it takes an hour to write your daily report. That hour can be used for HTG surfing. :)

Morning everyone. How's your Tuesday? Mine's off to a busy start here at the office. I'm kind of bummed. I thought I could pick up my Aerials at lunch before heading off to a doctor's appt. and then an eye exam, but I'm stuck in a teleconference. So my choices are to wait until tomorrow or try to drive into town after my eye exam.
:driver:

Hmmmm, guess I'll have to wait 'til tomorrow. . .

NOT!! Oh the heck with it, I'm going. Even half-blind, I won't be distinguishable from most of the other Houston rush-hour drivers.

Kevin the whole image looks to red...I need to have the sony connected as well to give me a benchmark but both glenda and I thought the same thing. So whites have a red tint to them? Blacks? Check your component cable connections, and check the menus on the player. Also try the S-video and see what you get. Like I said some players have a switch or menu option to choose between S and component, and you can get weird colors (red tint or blue tint) if the switch is set wrong and you use the component outs.

Hey, lookee what I got in my email again!! :roll:Subject: please reply soon!!! (No.)

Dear Sir,

It is with hope that I write to seek your helpin the context below. I am Hajia Mariam Abacha, wife of Nigeria's former head of state; Late General Sani Abacha, whose sudden death occurred on the 8th of June 1998. (Ok, what is it about being the Nigerian head of state that results in sudden death? Seems like they've been going through an awful lot of them lately!) Since my husband died, I have been thrown into a state of utter confusion, frustration and hopelessness by the present civilian administration. The security agents in the country have subjected me to physical and psychological torture. My son (Mohammed Abacha) is still under detention arraigned before the federal high court of Nigeria for an offence he did not commit. As a widow that is so traumatized, I am hopeless with my present faith. You must have heard over the media reports on the recovery of various sums of money deposited by my late husband with various security firms. (Not from the media, but from emails I've received on numerous occasions!) Some companies willingly gave up their secret and disclosed our money confidently lodged there, or many, outright blackmail. Infact the total sum discovered by the government so far is in the tune of $700 Million USD and they are not relenting to make me poor for life. I came in contact with your name and address in a website and would want to have good confidence in you as I view you to be a responsible personality. (Hahaha, she don't know me vewwy well, do her!?) I have no doubt about your capacity and goodwill to assist me in receiving into your custody( for safety) the sum of $40.3 Million USD willed and deposited safely in my favour by my late husband. (Seems like there are a lot of widows to Nigerian heads of state with money to launder...) This money is currently kept in Safe Deposit Box (SDB) at a security firm within Europe. As it is legally required, the administration of my late husband's property is under the authority of the family's Lawyer (Attorney)Barrister Frederick Alade William (SAN). (I wonder if he'll sue spammers?) The investigative teams set up by my government have submitted their report after freezing almost all our account. Fortunately, our family lawyer had secretly protected the personal will of my husband from the notice of the investigators and have strictly advised that the $40.3m USD be urgently moved to an overseas account of any trust worthy but ANNONYMOUS (Spell check anyone??) foreign family friend without delay, for security reasons. (Sure, if you email this to enough people just maybe a foreign family friend of yours will actually hear your plea!) All our traveling papers have been seized by the government thereby preventing us from traveling and all the local and international outfit of our business empire seized. This sum of money is our only hope to stay alive. I have therefore agreed to compensate your goodself with 20% of the total deposit when you finally the deposit box from the security firm and lodged in your account. (Ok, I read that sentence like three times and I still can't figure it out!) They have equally guaranteed 100% risk-free and smooth transfer. If you are interested in assisting me,you can write me through my e-mail, please reply direct to this email address; (deleted, but including it is certainly a great way to receive lots of spam and viruses in return for your trouble!) for obvious security reasons, it is imperative that you keep all our communication very secret. (BWAHAHAHA, they actually bother to say this over a public network that is anything but secure!?) Donot mention my family's name or disclose the transaction to anybody. (Oops, I just posted it on a public forum! Sorry! NOT!) If you are not interested in assisting me, still get in touch so that I can make alternative arrangement as time is of the essence. (Yeah right, in other words, please repond so I can send you more spam!) Please do not expose me. (Then please don't spam me!)

Best Regards,
Hajia mariam Abacha
(I wonder if such a person really does exist, I think not!)

One of these days I'm going to gather all the variants of this spam I've received, and do some forensics on it, in particular, if they're coming from the same source.

Ever get that one about a car crash of a distant relative and how they believed you to be the only heir to their inheritance? I got one about a year ago, that sounded SO STINKIN' legit it scared me. They even found a guys name that lived in Norway that had the same last name, said he worked for such and such company, but died...and I was his heir. I contacted the company in Norway and low and behold the guy didn't even work for their company. What is amazing is the time and effort they took to research an actually company, that was in Norway, my families homeland! 8O Either that or it was dumb luck!

PC problems continue to plague me at home. Last night, email and ICQ start acting up. Email downloads so far and locks up, or sometimes, locks up before it even displays. ICQ would lock up before it even went online. I'm not sure what's going on, but right now, it's looking like a total reload situation to me.

I may try to restore from my ghost image. But I noticed one thing I don't like about my last install. I went with FAT partitions, and every time you have to shut down abnormally, you go through that disc scan. I don't think NTFS does that.

So, I may reformat, then try to install from ghost image.

The event started monday morning at 04:00 and will go on till thursday morning 04:00. They walk around and play there piccolas and drums 24H with some short breaks for microsleep and beer and wine ofcourse :) there where some 100'000 people in town at 4 0'clock monday morning watching the start. I had to get up at 1:30 to pick up my parents who where down from Sweden. They're on a tour around southern France with there mobile home and stayed with us over the weekend and this monday so they had a chance to see parts of this big party. They choosed to stay on the German side with the mobile home since it's soo much cheaper than here in Switzerland.
Anyway.. up 1:30 pick them up. Champagne breakfast at 3 and then off into town for a wine session at a friends office which is located perfectly above one of the main town squares, just intime for the start at 4.
Starting to get slightly sleepy right now, but am ready to go back into town right now :) Let's see if I'm still alive tomorrow. :)

Big Boss virus is attacking again, be aware... I've been sent it 3 times in the last 3 days.If you look at the headers, you might get some clues as to who is sending it to you. In particular, look at the last Received: header. For example, you might see something like this:Received: from [ IP address ] (helo=computer name)
by email server with smtp blah blah...
id blah blah... for your email; Wed, 29 Jan 2003 05:54:25 -0800 (obviously the date will be different on yours)

In particular the IP address and computer name will tell you if you're getting hit by the same, or different senders each time. Unfortunately Sobig doesn't pass the real email address of the sender, just the IP address and machine name (which may be a clue, if you recognize it).PC problems continue to plague me at home. Last night, email and ICQ start acting up. Email downloads so far and locks up, or sometimes, locks up before it even displays. ICQ would lock up before it even went online. I'm not sure what's going on, but right now, it's looking like a total reload situation to me.Dude, you need a Dell. :LOL:I may try to restore from my ghost image. But I noticed one thing I don't like about my last install. I went with FAT partitions, and every time you have to shut down abnormally, you go through that disc scan. I don't think NTFS does that.I don't know if Ghost will restore an image from a FAT drive to a NTFS drive or not. It might not. Give the Ghost image a try, and failing that, reformat from scratch (delete partitions and all) and reload from a blank slate, preferably NTFS.

Hey guys, remember the CodeRed II worm from a couple years ago, that infects IIS boxes? It looks like it's making a comeback. It hasn't been heard much about in the past year because it was programmed not to spread in the year 2002, or the month of October, but now that it's 2003 it looks like it's coming back.

I've logged 10 separate scans from CRII-infected boxes on my firewall in the past few hours, and they seem to be coming in faster every hour.

It goes to show that people never bother to install patches.

OSIT, all.

Well, the Air Force saw fit to hand me the keys to a 100 million dollar aircraft today, so I took it out for a spin.
:-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y :-y

YEEHAW! Wow, that thing's amazing. I just took half a million pounds of metal into the air, did amazing things, and then brought it back to Earth without killing anybody of real significance or bending anything. Wow. I carried a Hum-V (real name HMMWV or something like that) and some other stuff in the back, the first time I've ever carried a vehicle on board.

I'm beat. Lots of work today, and lots of room for improvement. I get to fly again on Thursday, so tomorrow I get to recoup. Gotta go call some companies about participating in my theater project!

Gotta do the bananas today.

Lex, we actually will be carrying that bomb in the back of our aircraft! Me, a bomber pilot. Who woulda thunk it.

Only 59 members to go! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Andrew: Downloaded and listened to that song you linked to. I like it! Very folksy. My favorite country in the world (outside of mine) is Ireland. There's a bar in the Temple Bar district of Dublin called Gogarty's, where downstairs is normal bar dance music. But upstairs every night on weekends they have traditional Irish folk music, and it's awesome. Everybody is just foot stomping, hopping around to the pipes, guitar, and traditional Irish tom drum. Love it.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun Chris.

Speaking of the MOAB, the city of MOAB (in somewhere USA) is trying to get the US Military to change the name of that bomb fearing that their city might be targeted as a result of the bomb's name. Heard something to that effect last night on the news.

Morning folks. Yes it's Wednesday but I'll leave the "H-day" word for our resident newlywed. :-y

Speaking of funny cell phone related cartoons, I present today's Dilbert:

http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/images/dilbert2008129430312.gif

What's funny is the remote that goes to my Sony megachanger has a flip-down panel on it and if I flip it and hold it up to my ear it looks a lot like a cell phone, so I can pretend I'm talking to someone. It can come in handy if the PHB comes by and I don't want to be interrupted.

Pr@, have you listened to Norah yet? On your new Denon perhaps? ;) Have you figured out your red problem?

Turns out I was right about CodeRed II. Sort of. It isn't actually CodeRed II but a new variant of it that has the date check removed. It started spreading yesterday. So just a friendly reminder to those with IIS boxes (we know Mats just LOVES IIS! :?? ) to make sure they are up to date with patches. And to those who use Sendmail as an email server (in Unix, Linux or Windoze), to patch that as well due to its recently discovered security flaw.

Kevin, actually, I've got little true security at that. Once, they laid off 70 computer people here years ago. Well, the state is in the middle of another budget shortfall, and the place is looking at a loss of close to 400 jobs right now. Around half of those are filled positions. So, even though I am on a hot project for Academia, there's still no guarantee. I've got about as much security as the next guy, not very damn much. Especially with my relations here.

Such a lovely day and gonna be up close to 80 degrees again today. :sn

Cool lookin' flip pic David..... shame on you with 3 flippy's in a row!

Finally, just maybe, crossing my fingers..... is it possible? My new Toshiba set is supposed to be on a truck headed my direction.

Toshiba customer service could not tell me this. I had to call the corporate office in N.J., which they gave me a # for Tennessee's customer service HQ's where I talked with the lady who is supposed to be over the entire company's customer service dept. She immediately said she would get to the bottom of it and find out what's going on. She even called me back within 5 minutes of talking to her.

When I started out telling her my story she was astounded at the fact it took 3 weeks to get a service center to pick up my set. Then I think she may have hit the floor when I told her I'd been without my set since Jan. 10th.

Just maybe this is coming to a close.

Just got keep pushin' forward and get through this time...this too shall pass!

Sonnie: Enjoy your :sn today and don't get that hill billy skin of yours burnt!!! And here's hoping you actually get a tv again!

Eduardo: Happy anniversary! LOL....

I attended a conference call meeting yesterday about our financials and we've all be requested to increase our work time by spending 5 more hours a week OVERTIME!Ahh, so even Happy Erik isn't immune to crap at work. What I always say, is companies get what they pay for. Just because you have to spend an extra hour a day at your desk doesn't mean you have to produce an extra hour's worth of work! Just work a little less hard through the day and it'll balance out!

Yes I know, I've been reading too many Dilbert strips, but I refuse to let companies take advantage of us peons. They want more work, then they have to pay for it, that's what I say.

You tell em' Kevin, :F the bastards, that's what I say, lol.So true. Companies think that they have the upper hand due to the slow economy, but it's us peons that allow the company to stay in business. Its ultimate success hinges on the work we do (never mind the greedy execs who undermine this and ruin companies). If they want us to work harder, we need something to motivate us to work harder. That would be more money, a promotion, better benefits, more vacation time, whatever. Just saying you have to do more with less isn't going to work, unless you have a bunch of really stupid or gullible employees.

What gets to me is when a company has pay cuts. When someone says "I had to take a 10% pay cut" my response is "ok, so do 10% less work." Or mandatory unpaid overtime. Spending more time does not equal getting more work done. Or in the case of my job, no cost of living adjustments in 3 years, benefits getting worse, work conditions getting worse, promises not kept, and now not even knowing how much longer we'll have jobs, that translates to a lot less output from me, and no doubt many others here. In a way, we have the upper hand here, as we're doing (or not doing) the actual work.

For those who say "but you might get fired if you slack off", I say "hey, I'll probably lose my job anyway, even if I work my butt off".

Ok, I'm stepping down off the soap box now.

Yep, but I try to take crap and turn it into compost! LOL....but yes, sometimes the stench is so bad it's unbareable...it hasn't reach that with me...and I don't anticipate it either.

Then Lex said: Erik, what do you get for those extra 5 hours? Employed? LOL. Maybe that sun will be turned upside down soon soon... Get in here with the rest of us pessimistic pricks.

Yep, I stay employed...but it's not really 5 EXTRA....for instance. I have a target billiable goal of 35 hours/week. So if I can swing a complete 40 hour work week being "billiable" then I'm groovy. So it's not like 45 hours a week...it's billable hours. So I just spend more time doing billable work and I'll be alright! Plus this 5 extra hours thing is supposed to be temporary...we'll see! 8O Now the real question...do I have 40 billable hours! :P DOH....

Oh, that's not so bad then. Just billable hours, not working hours.Plus this 5 extra hours thing is supposed to be temporary...we'll see! 8O Ahh, Temporary! Yes, that's what our company always says when they stick it to us... it's "temporary!" When they took away wearing jeans during the week, it was temporary. 2 years later we still aren't wearing jeans (except on Fridays). When they started locking the doors 24 hours a day, it was going to be temporary--I still have the email stating just that--and 2 years later, no change.

Using the word "temporary" to lessen the blow on bad news is like saying that a tax hike is "temporary".

And get this, I still have an email containing my review form (that I had to fill out), dated March 19, 2002. I still haven't had that review. Nor did I have one in 2001. And though they pulled the "we're going to do salary reviews" this year too, still nothing.

Now you can see why "pretending to work" is one of my favorite activities these days.

Hey, I'm back. Survived the morning - didn't quit in a fit of anger or anything. I just don't know how to read my new boss. He's a French Canadian and we have different ways of saying and reading things. We wind up banging heads way too much and I've just about reached the end of my rope. Sorry 'bout the negativity.

My old boss at XXXXX Oil (a REALLY good man) saw my wife in the hall at the old office, and he said to have my call him about "things". So we've been playing phone tag all morning. Hopefully something will come out of this.

Those Aerials are awesome! Even with the good-but-less-than-stellar amplification of my RX-V1, they sound SO much better than the Boston Acoustics it's staggering.

E, sorry to hear you are having "bad days" too. Keep being happy - you are our rock. If I ever have a chance to talk to Jenice, I'll have a better idea about hooking up next week some time. We're ships in the night right now.

Andrew, one suggestion. take one component end, and plug it where it goes, take the other two, and shove one up your a$$, and the other in your ear. Now, I am betting you don't care so much about the picture huh?

Actually, try this, reverse 2 of the component connectors on each end. Particularly, the red, and blue for example. So, what you have, is the red connection on the blue on both ends, and vice versa. Now see what kind of picture you have. This will eliminate the cable. To be certain, do the same thing with the green and red.

Just to make sure one of your colors hasn't dropped out via the cable.

Yeah Sonnie, I still hate your hillbilly a$$ for having it made.

Bing was kind enough to drop by last night and attempt to repair the computer. With no luck , We decided to put in the new board (ASUS K7XV8 Deluxe)
Bing took the computer home to his house to finish installing the Windows XP disc and hopefully figure out what went wrong.
It could be the hard drive that is corrupt.
I just hope that all my Digital pics survive. I had 1 years worth of pics on there. :#

I have a little news, but not sure when I will reveal it. ;)

Hey, Sonnie actually has to work today, around 10ish anyway, until what 3 Sonnie?

How's new TV??? I got to admit, you were much more patient than I would have been. I'd a been on some suites in Japan long before now, lol. If they ever wanted to see another sushi, they'd have some business to take care of.

xx) xx) Morning folks! xx) xx)
(my answer to Hap-E's sun smiley greetings!)

Trevor (would that be "T" now?), I say flip it! Flip it good! Sounds like an 80s song... ;)

E, I had an old-school Nintendo years ago. Played a lot of Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, and Galaga on it. Then my sister stole it. :( I never got into the newer game units. You're turning the big Three Oh soon. Danged whippersnappers. ;) Heather turned 30 a week before our wedding, which was 6 months after I turned 30, so it's always easy to remember how long we've been married! As long as I can remember my age... ;)

Sonnie (I guess you would be S), have you hooked up the TV yet? It does work better after it's hooked up and plugged in you know. Remember to save the box for me, since we may be heading to Bammer and moving into it if/when I lose my job.

J, you have an Outlaw 950? K is jealous. :)

Pr@ (A?), Heather and I got a chuckle thinking about your poor dog licking the plate and then making a mad dash for her water dish! It wasn't that super hot salsa now was it? 8O You'd be surprised at the things our cats will eat, especially Jambo.

Time for K to pretend to work for a while...

After all, you've not watched one since Jan, so you should be used to it by now, lol.
Uh-huh.... that should be since December 20th (the night it broke).

Thanks on the TV guys.... sure is nice to have it back. That 35" Sanyo really has a terrible pic. Never realized how bad it was until lookin' at it for soooooooooooooooo long.

Ha! Ha! On the cow tipping Sonnie!!
I have heard of that, but never had the opportunity to try it.
Just seems like a funny overall activity..Moo!
Nothin' like cow poop squeezing up between your tows Trev.... you definitely gotta try it sometime. lol

Happy Birthday (early) Hap-E! The party has started already huh?

Hey, I get to my office at 8am on Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri..... and I'm here until 5:30pm. Now what I do while I'm here is another matter.

Oh, BTW, I'm gonna take off tomorrow!

Remember to save the box for me
OOPS.... they boxed up the old unit and took it with them Kevin..... sorry. I've got an old sleeping bag you can use though. Even better yet, we just put new pine straw in the goat shed..... this way you'd have roof over you.......... and it's tin so when it rains you and the goats and listen to the rain hit the tin and you can even sleep late. lol

No the salsa is never very hot in our house since glenda doesn't like things to spicey...even the "hot" chicken burger at Wendy's is too hot for her

I played with the Denon briefly last night and it was the cable on the component that wasn't seated proplerly...at least that seems to have greatly improved the image. Its still a little more lush looking then when I switch over to the s-video feed but it doesn't look worse for it...I think I just need to sit down with Avia and dial things in again. One thing I did play with is seeing how good its downconversion was if I didn't set my TV to sqeeze the image since that was one of the big reasons I sold my old Panny A320...and boy was I surprised...sure you see see jaggies and shimmys every now and then but my tourture test of the eqyptian hyroglyphics in the begining of 5th Element prooved to be very smooth which was a pleasant surprise. So far I'm liking this player...though its no Sony 7700 for build quality or smoothness of opperation...what's with the noise as the disk spins up?

As far as the laptops go I'm thinking now of seeing if I can pick up a USB to Serial adapter and seeing if I can get the pronto, hyperterminal and the rotel to work though that. If I can find one that works then it opens up more doors and makes some of the Dells a viable option again...esp since I can get a 2.4Ghz Dell for under $2K with a 3 year warrenty which would be nice. :-y Hopefully We'll hear from the tax man today so I'll know where we sit on that front....also still haven't heard from that guy selling the Nikon camera so its begining to look like I'll buy the Canon instead.

K: You cracked me up with your xx) post!

S: Don't work too hard...ok? :D

L: New stuff...definately not optical cables...perhaps your Neon sign business is taking off?

A: Glad you got your cable "seated" properly! Hey I get to send my taxes in today too...now we can pay off our TV and a bunch of other stuff since I'm getting MY money back (without interest of course!)!!! :x Ya, know if they take too much taxes...heck they always do that, and we get some back shouldn't we get interest on that?!!!! Perhaps I should run for office and put that on my platform of ideas? ;)

C: How's my favorite Bomber Pilot doing?

G: Is it cold again this morning? What does a retiree do on Thursday's?

D: Have a great time at lunch and here's hoping it turns out "fruitful" for ya! :D

T: Yea, the parties started early...even though I'm turning 30 I will probably feel and act like I'm 18 for ever! :p:

M0rning all, :later:

Sonnie, hope the new TV works out for ya, (though I'm not sure I knew what was wrong with it in the first place), keep on tipping those Cows.

E, Happy B-Day to Nicole and you in a few days.

Andrew, happy laptop hunting...

Trev, The PC is ready to go. Your files structures were totally corrupt, it took almost an hour of fixes before my system would boot and recognise the drive. Anyway, I was able to back up the C: partition on to my network before formatting it and installing Windows. Not all the same attributes could be salvaged, but for the most part it's all there. You'll want to back up all those photos on to CD-R though.

I ran a surface scan check and everything looks fine on the suspect hard drive, so I'm not sure what was the culprit that created the problem in the first place.

The Nforce 2 mother board seems like a very fast and stable board, I think you'll like it.

The fan swap seems to have ceasted the high pitched whine from the 7200 RPM Black label fan, however you'll have to be the judge of that.

I installed Nero Burning ROM for you so backing-up your data on to CDR should be a snap.

Anyway, I have some final tweaks to do and I can bring it by for you tonight if you would like.

Can you beleive Trev still has his Atari stuffed in his closet?? Every nook and cranny of his house has some type of toy (high or low tech) stuff into it. Literally one big "Fun House" He is my hero!

E, for a plane ticket out to WA, I'd come look at your PC anytime (yup, that's a PC alright ) :yesnod:

Kevin, I just let the fault tolerance of NTFS fix itself. I plugged the corrupt drive into my system and upon XP booting, it fixed most of the problems with in the HD files. I then just used Norton Utilites to perform a surface scan. I know there is some NTFS file and Data correction tools available, but those are targeted to the Corporate environment, needless to say the software is frightfully expensive.

Kevin, weren't you collecting and restoring some of those vintage computers a while back??

Kevin the Super Geek wanting moi to build him a PC? That's an honor :amen:

Trev, I have also backed up the entire suspect drive to the other drive as well, so you should be good to go, just be sure to buy a 100 cake of CDR's and phyically back them up and you'll be OK should something go wrong.

Man, Trev's Nforce 2 mboard boots fast :E

Lex (it's Andrew...but you're groggy from sleep so we'll let this one pass)*edited by E, good to hear that your colors seem better on your dvd player. My seems very quiet. It is in another room from my tv, maybe that has something to do with.

Man life is good right now. My house is quiet, my kids are happy. Let me give some free advice to everyone out there. NEVER and I mean NEVER let a sister in law with 3 kids move into your home. No matter how big your house is. It practactly took an act of God to move her out after 6 months.

Wow, I can't tell you how happy I am now that I have a new TV. I know how you feel Sonnie. Except I did not have one to break down! 8O This is my first adventure with a bigscreen. I have had my Sony KP-57WS500 for just over a week now! It's awesome! Now with the new DVD player, I really think that I am done with my system...for at least 3 years anyways.

I can't believe how much difference a new TV made with the sound of my system. 8) I am totally satisfied.

E's getting more toys!? No wonder he's so happy! I'd be happy too if I could just up and buy stuff anytime I wanted! And getting HDTV too, sweet! Comcast recently took over AT&T Broadband for our cable service and their recent ads are hinting at HDTV service coming "soon". I'll believe it when I see it.

I do have the possibility of some consulting work, plus a tax refund on its way, but of course if I spend it on toys I'd wind up moving into Sonnie's goat barn sooner rather than later..

I'm supposed to go to the guy's house who has the consulting work tonight, but now it's starting to S*** (swear word censored out) out and if it's bad tonight I might have to reschedule. And if Sonnie posts that it's 70 plus degrees out right now I'll sneak into his house and switch the red and blue component cables on his new Toshiba!

Since Reality TV is all the rage these days , I propose a new reality series, starring Yours Truly, called:

I'm a programmer, get me outta here!

I'm guessing that the best format would be like the Bachelor. I would be the "bachelor", and the candidates would be HR reps for various companies. I would meet with each rep, have an interview, tour the place, and each week I would vote off one candidate. Whoever wins gets to hire me as a programmer!

Maybe I should email one of the networks and see if they'll consider it...

BUT.... rain is on the way.

Thanks again on the Toshiba guys.... we are keeping our hopes up that all will be okay with this one.

Bing, to make a very long story short as possible:

I got the Toshiba 65HDX82 on 12/10/02. On 12/20/02 it broke (red gun board went out). The service center did not pick it up until 3 weeks later on 1/10/03. I just got a replacement set yesterday 3/12/03.

Just so you guys will know.... I suspect the goat shed will hold about 3 comfortably.... BUT.... I'm adding on so when done it should sleep 6 or so comfortably. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!

I suppose I should mention the nominal rental fee of $10 per person per night..... which can be worked out with manual labor.

Nice looking speaker there D! Ya know, with so many people preferring 2-channel over 5.1 for music, tubes over solid state, vinyl over CD, etc. wouldn't the ultimate in audio bliss be a MONO system? Heck, one of those wind-up gramophone thingies with the horn that plays 78s ought to be the ultimate in high-end audio!

Sonnie brags about it being 70+ degrees when it's snowing here! :M I just hope the winter weather runs out before the firewood does. Maybe I can keep warm this way: :nuke:

I do hate it for you guys with snow. I was watching the weather news the other night and the high for day in North Dakota was 15 degrees while we had 77 degrees here.

You know David, I've always wondered why some speaker manufacturers priced their full range speakers "Each" or "EA.". Like someone is really going to buy just one speaker.

Hmmm... David (I mean D), you are on your way to a flippin' title, huh?
Actually Chris Dotur (is that "CD"?) :>) has as many "legal" flips as David (I'm NOT from Dallas, so don't call me "D" ) Meek. :>)

Here are the unofficial TTP IX page flip stats so far:

( 1 ) Andrew Pratt
( 3 ) Chris Dotur
( 3 ) David Meek
( 1 ) Kevin Patz
( 1 ) Lex
( 1 ) Sonnie Parker
( 2 ) Trever Schell
( 1 ) X - Not Counted (Only two flips in a row allowed by the same person)

( 13 ) Total Flips

You know David, I've always wondered why some speaker manufacturers priced their full range speakers "Each" or "EA.". Like someone is really going to buy just one speaker.

If someone wants to buy a single speaker as a center in a 5.1 or 7.1 system, then "EA" pricing makes more sense than having to buy a pair and then selling the other one to someone else, or use it as a plant stand. :>)

Burke

Sonnie Parker

I could understand it on some of the small speakers Burke, but I can't see anyone purchasing a Definitive Tech BP2002L (or whatever their powered sub model is) for a center channel.

Most speaker manufacturers make a specific center channel speaker that looks nothing like the mains while the mains are priced "each". That's when it doesn't really make sense.

The "each" pricing could be in order to make the speakers "appear" cheaper at first glance in order to entice buyers. Sort of like pricing something $39.99 instead of $40, $39.99 looks less expensive at first glance, hey it's under 40 bucks! Saying $250 each looks more enticing than $500/pair.

Of course now the roads are getting bad. Where's spring!? I guess I'm not going to visit that guy tonight.

Burke, that's an awefully big speaker to lay on it's side on top of your TV isn't it? And the tonal balance and dialog is gonna be out of whack with the tweets at one side of your TV and the woofs at the other side. OR is this behind one of those FPTV screens? I could see a tall floor standing speaker for center in a FPTV system.

Trev- Nice last post. You know, HALO 2 is supposed to come out at the beginning of next year. CNN had some screen shots demoed, and it looked cool.

BIG NEWS, all! Another major company has signed on to be part of my home theater project with the magazine. I can't really reveal who just yet... or what the products are... or what the deal is. Just take my word for it. :D Chris is a happy boy, and I'll share more details when I can. We're getting closer to the whole package!

(No, Lex, they're not cables... I still got your back there)

Kev: I like the "Bachelor" idea for you. If you can just get 30 hot babes to interview you for jobs, (or should I say "interview"?) :hump: I don't think you'll be depressed about work any longer, whether you get the job or not.

Hap-E: Doing okay. Flying is SO tiring when you're not used to it yet. Just remember back to how tense you were when you first started driving and how exhausting that was. It's that way every time you learn a new aircraft for a bit.

I got to air refuel today, guys! First time ever doing it, I was able to stay latched on to the refueling boom (gas hose thing from the tanker) for 5 minutes! Let's review what happens in air refueling:

1. Two aircraft get within about 20 feet of each other
2. You both are travelling 400 miles an hour across the ground
3. Your combined weight is over 1 million pounds.
4. You're 27,000 feet up in the air where air is thin and COLD
5. You have about 45 minutes to converge with the tanker, join up, and transfer about 10,000-15,000 gallons of gas, or you don't have enough fuel
6. You have to stay within a little box about 5-10 feet wide, high, and deep
7. If you don't comply with #6, you either:
A. Crash into the other tanker
B. Snap off the refueling boom and become a unicorn airplane with a strut on your forehead, spewing fuel everywhere.
C. Fall out of position, disconnecting from the tanker and stopping the fuel flow (preferrable consequence)

8. After making it through steps 1-7, if you don't manage to kill yourself, you then pass thousands of pounds of explosive fuel about 5 feet over your head.

Military intelligence at work. :??

Sonnie: You're getting the storm we got last night. Pretty bad stuff. :(

Trev, I can drop it off tomorrow and quickly run you through the setup.

The drive should be ok, just make sure you back-up regularly for the first while.

Cool on the new RAM, it should make thay system fly with the Barton. I was going to get a Barton as well, but I was checking out the CPU support for my Mobo, Rev 1.1 does not support Bartons, Rev 2.0 does... Guess which one I have??? That's right... :banghead: Crap I'm in the same boat you were in with the KG7, this pisses me off.
