Hi all. Well, we survived Monday morning - after I shattered my prescription sunglasses, that is. . . . Lots of things going on trying to get ready to head North, so I won't be around too much today. Later.

A geek joke:Two strings walk into a bar.
The first string says "Bartender, I'll take a beer.g^sDe%s)sd0S)&^sf*sdKS(s0PsSJ*&SD#M3jk3("
The second string says "you'll have to excuse my friend, he isn't NULL terminated."Ok, now I'm home, outside in the yard enjoying this 77-degree summer-like weather (of course it couldn't be like this over the weekend), so here's a little something to make people think of summer! 8O

We'll have to raise the bar for humor around here, since your puns have been about the funniest we've seen, bar none -- -- of course if you had used any dirty words you'd get a bar of soap in your mouth to come clean :>) so barring a flood or other natural disaster you should be able to muster a grin for a few more bar jokes -- but if you don't like them, send a member of the bar to sue me... :>)
A jumper cable walks into a bar.
The barman says "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A dyslexic man walks into a bra...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says
"A beer please, and one for the road."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Two peanuts walk into a bar.
One was a salted.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A grasshopper walks into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender does a double take and says: “We have a drink that’s named after you.” And the grasshopper replies: “You have a drink named ‘Steve’? “
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A duck walks into a bar and says: “I’ll have a double martini – and put it on my bill. “
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Old West, a dog came limping into the saloon and said: “I’m looking for the man who shot my paw.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A piece of rope slithered into a bar and tried to order a drink. But the bartender said: “Get out. We don’t serve rope in here.” So the rope slithered out and went around the corner. Then he shook his top end around until the strands separated and looped himself around like a pretzel and went back into the bar. The bartender yelled at him: “Hey, aren’t you the rope I just told to get out of here?” To which the rope replied: “I’m a frayed knot.”

I've read about some OTHER uses for Pop Tarts that probably wouldn't be discussed in Sunday School, and was half expecting that might have been the subject of the linked article. :>) (But science prevails over smut!) :>) Those are some wicked flames from a li'l ol' Pop Tart! I wonder what's really in them to make them so flammable. :>) And I wonder if that experiment was underway when the house five doors down on my block burned down a couple of months ago????

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello!
Did I miss anyone? Just in case.... Hello again to everyone!
I have sure missed TTP and the rest of the forum. No excuses I know, but for what it's worth I've been terribly busy.
I've had to curb my Internet time to just about zero at work (and I've never had much time for the net at home.)
Mike, the fellow that came with the other office we purchased didn't realize that we did actually have to do some work here at the office. He was spending about 4 hours a day on the Internet and really being lazy. That mean't that I had to eliminate his Internet.... AND being one that try's to practice what I preach or expect, I've eliminated much of my time on the net. BUT ultimately, we really have been extroadinarily busy which eliminates much of my net time anyway.
Enough whining from me.
I'm trying to work in some time at home so maybe I can get caught up with TTP soon.
Funny puns Burke....
Dangerous but funny experiment with the pop-tarts Gordon.
You guys have a great day and don't forget I'm alive for now.

And I wonder if that experiment was underway when the house five doors down on my block burned down a couple of months ago???? That reminds me of a news article I read a few years back where some idiot sued Kellogg's after their Pop Tart caught fire in the toaster and started a fire in the kitchen. Apparently she (I think it was a she, as I recall) put the pop-tart into the toaster and then went out for about 20 minutes and then came back to a burning house. The toaster was broken so it didn't shut off, and if I recall correctly she knew that. I don't know if it made it to court or whatever but I hope she lost.

Glad you enjoyed the pop-tart experiment.
Man dinner tonight was awesome: Alycia's perogies, piece of ham and bacon wrapped cabbage rolls....the ukrainian special!
In case you guys don't know what's so special about Alycia's:
http://www.gov.mb.ca/itm/comebacks/calling/winter03/perogies.html
JOHN CANDY used to have them flown down to his home in Los Angeles, while the L.A. Kings made a point of ordering them by the dozens when in Winnipeg to face off against the Jets.
Perogies… pierogies… pyrohy… those plump Ukrainian delicacies made by Alycia’s Restaurant at 559 Cathedral Avenue, have gained well-deserved international repute and risen to local renown as some of the best in town – or anywhere else for that matter.
Don Keith, manager of the restaurant and catering business that employs 40 people, says 1,000 dozen perogies, filled with various combinations of mashed potato, cheddar cheese, onion, cottage cheese and sauerkraut, are handmade every day in their kitchen. The same dough and filling recipes have been used for 25 years, since owner Marion Staff bought a small North End eatery called Alice’s Restaurant, then changed the name and menu to reflect the ethnicity of the area.
Served boiled and pan fried or deep-fried under a layer of sweet, sauteed onions, perogies made by Alycia’s are not only perfect comfort food – but truly the taste of home. MC
Candy would often take out all sorts of family and friends to the restuarant and pay for the whole she-bang.
I really enjoy those stories...they're the thing of myth that get more interesting with each year passing. His pics on the wall (and not some studio type pic) enjoying a plate of perogies of course ;)
If you ever travel this way...Alycia's is a must.

Pat, it's one nice ride! There is something I like about high sprung 4 Cyls. Kinda like the E30 M3, Those were a 4 Cyl with about 220 Hp stock, but you could buy over the counter parts to make that 4 cyl into 300+ hp... Basically the world winning F1 motor used in the Brabham.
I heard a rumor BMW was going to make a limited edition run of the E30 M3 again. Sa-weet!
http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=1988_bmw_m3-1.jpg
Ya, it's boxy like a Lada, but true Bimmer-philes absolutely love and respect this car... It was a race car for the street (dubbed a Go-Kart with doors) because BMW had to make at least 500 street versions inorder to race it due to homologation rules. It totally dominated the racing seasons during it's campain.
I would love to pick one of these up for a hobby car, unfortunately most examples have either led a hard racing life, or been time capsuled by some owner who wants a pretty penny for it

Hi everyone. Must have coffee. . . . :coffee:
Jeez, what a busy four days! After closing on the house, we REALLY went into hyperdrive. So after a load of work, the furniture 'n tools are packed (except for the leaded-glass front door which I pick up today) in the truck and trailer and ready to head out. I'll fly up Saturday morning to Seattle and meet up with the truck and head on to Orcas Island for a full week of house renovation. Anybody wanna loan me some sleep - I could use it!
:)
Pat, I've seen one of the WRX's blowing around the West-side of town lately. I just thought it was a custom-modded car - didn't realize it's factory. Pretty sharp. As much horsepower as the Z-71 and over 2,000 pounds lighter! Whew.

Sheesh, what does one do with 300 hp in a small car? Unless you're towing a big trailer or something... of course with my commute I'd be fine with 50 hp. 0-30 in the same time as the car in front of me is all I need.

A friend emailed me this: MSNBC article on the murder suspect (http://www.msnbc.com/local/MUL/M291318.asp?0na=x2218120-)
He also emailed me this, which is one of the reasons I refuse to have kids. They don't get to be kids anymore...People over 35 should be dead.
According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived.
Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.)
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors!
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. No cell phones. Unthinkable!
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them.
We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt.
We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. They were accidents.
No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents?
We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it.
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade. Horrors! Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, in history.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them!
Congratulations.
Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good...

I would like a DLP TV at anyrate and a small projector for the notebook... But that's all pipe dreams, there are other things my family needs first.

I have heard form some the rainbowing of the infocus is kinda bad, however I don't know how bad.
Depends on the person and the screen/calibration...some people never do get used to them others never see them...though the numbers I've seen point to a fairly low percentage of people that are bothered by them (or see them). Its a toss up btw good black levels with DLP and a few rainbows or poor blacks and screen door with LCD

I assume you know what teton means in french
Although the French are such prudes that some of their dictionaries don't list the word "teton" at all, :>) franc-ly, I wouldn't want to be a boob and not keep abreast of your thought process, so I had to rack my brain to figure out what you were trying to get off your chest with that titillating question -- so here it is: "teton" means "sweater girl figure". :>)
Burke
PS -- one French dictionary I found that listed it said "teton = teat/breast" and "grand = big" so "grand tetons" is a synonym for "beaucoup bazooms" :>)

He also emailed me this, which is one of the reasons I refuse to have kids. They don't get to be kids anymore...
There may be a lot of valid reasons to choose not to take on the responsibility of having kids, but I think those of us who grew up during the '50s and '60s survived in spite of the things that were on that list. (With his nostalgic tone, the author tries to make some things sound like a treat that really weren't all that good for us.) Here are a few items that come to mind from my experiences during that time:
- I personally knew kids who passed around / shared bottles of soft drinks who got mono or hepatitis from it. Wasn't sanitary to do it then, still not a good idea now.
- When I was in elementary school, a neighbor's baby was brain damaged from eating "colorful" lead paint off its crib and was basically a "vegetable" needing special care from then on. Cases like that are what got the laws against lead paint passed.
- My sister's boyfriend in high school died falling off the back of a pickup truck when the driver stopped suddenly for an animal that ran in front of the truck. If he had been in the passenger compartment wearing a seat belt, he'd probably be my brother-in-law today instead of under a cemetary marker.
- Several of my playmates in grade school were obese from eating too much junk food and drinking sugar-laden beverages even though we played outside all day. One of them died of a heart attack before we finished college.
- Getting banged up by the neighborhood bully was no fun, even if the author of the piece seemed to think recovery from being beaten black and blue was just a matter of getting up and learning to live with it.
Of course, many if us did survive to adulthood, and all that still doesn't mean that everyone should have kids these days. But if communities, schools and parents are working to make it safer physically for today's kids to learn and grow, which must also have a positive mental impact as well, I think that's a good thing.

Kevin - I like your comic flip on the last page. very funny. But the babe is HOT :hb Glad you liked it. As the ever resourceful geek, I came up with a solution for my little issue of not being able to (safely) hunt for babe pics from work when I get a flip. I made a list of URLs which I stashed on my linux box, so next time I get a flip, all I have to do is copy one of the URLs in, and bingo! Instant babe flip pic without having to go look for one. :) Pretty smart, huh?

The keyboard is definately warped on the left side.
Viewing the keyboard from ground level you can definately see that the keys are not level across.
The print is very clear and I do like the images produced.
Changing resolutions just creates a blurry print , so there is no changing that period.
I will have to spend more time with it of course.
There is a 30 day return policy , however a 15% restocking fee also ties in with that.. :(

Morning Kevin. Looks like it's you 'n me so far today.
The furniture is Orcas Island-bound. I'm flying up to Seattle on Saturday, meeting up with the shipment and going on to the new place. Then the work really starts - replacing exterior trim, painting outside and inside, putting in wood flooring in kitchen, entry and hallway. . . the list goes on. I've mapped out the necessary vs. not-so and put a critical path diagram together. Jeez, sounds like I'm at work!
Not much else to report, though. Tired as a dog. . . . :tired:
Anyway, see y'all 'round today. Hope you have a good humpday. :hump:

David, I thought Orcas Island was your retirement home? Sounds like you're moving there soon. You retiring already? I have no chance of retiring unless I find a much better paying job down the road...
I came across this chuckle and thought I'd pass it along:It's wise to remember how easily email, wonderful technology can be misused, sometimes unintentionally, with serious consequences.
Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day.
When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail. Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he had written her e-mail address, he did his best to type it in from memory.
Unfortunately, he missed one letter, and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher's wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
"Dearest Wife,
Just got checked in. Everything is prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
PS. Sure is hot down here "

Yeah, it's our retirement place, but we'll be renting it to vacationers on a nightly/weekly basis 'til we are able to move permanently - 5 or 6 years most likely. Jen qualifies for full retirement w/medical at that point (she was child-labor) and the kids will both be out of college (I hope) by then.
That's a big "cottage" industry in the San Juans since they are very scenic, rather quiet and not so easy to reach.

Gentlement, I feel it is time for me to qualify the b@be situation. There is nothing wrong with posting beauties that are in bathing suites that may appear in Sports Illustrated, or other decent publications. While your significant other may not agree with you to view it, it is within the guidelines of this public forum.
It's part of TTP history, and part of what makes us tick. Please use discretion on those that are borderline, posting those more on the weekends, than during the work week. But if the t and p are covered, it's technically fair game A's have long been considered acceptable to show as no more than the fatty part of the legs. But please, only tasteful shots here.
I'm assuming Mats new feature works to eliminate images. But you may have to log in before visiting the individual forums in order for it to do so. I don't want TTP to become what appears to be censored. But of course, we don't want to get anyone in trouble either. So, it's going to be up to the individual that has a problem with images to seek solution. That may be borrowing Kevin's stealth technology, or using the built in feature Mats has given us. It's up to you to select the level of protection you require.
Myself, there is no significant other, so I am fine as long as it doesn't qualify us as a n|_|dy site. That we don't want.

Alabama earthquake!?!?!?!?!? Sonnie, you still with us? This is from today's Houston Chronicle:April 29, 2003, 10:10PM
Rare quake rattles 7 Southern states
By MARK NIESSE
Associated Press
FORT PAYNE, Ala. -- A rare Southern earthquake rattled seven states early Tuesday, shaking people out of their sleep and cracking foundations but causing no major damage or injuries.
Some people thought the boom and rumble was a bomb, a gas truck explosion, a tornado, even terrorism, but their fright soon gave way to nervous laughter.
"The quake shook up the chicken shed so bad they all laid scrambled eggs," Jim Toler joked over breakfast at a restaurant. "It bounced us pretty heavy."
The magnitude 4.9 quake, tying the record for Alabama, struck around 4 a.m. and was centered near Fort Payne, close to the Georgia line, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was felt in parts of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Mississippi.
Residents said the earth moved for as long as a minute, including mild aftershocks.
"My little boy thought the aliens were coming, and I thought it was a tornado," said waitress Tonya Wells. "For me, it seemed like it lasted forever. I woke up yelling `Tornado! Tornado!' "
Earthquakes are uncommon in the Southeast, and few people in the area had experienced one before.
"Everybody in the neighborhood was out on their front porch, all the dogs were barking, all the alarms were going off," said Ronnie Crow, a city electrical inspector.
The dogs included Terry Camp's cocker spaniel named Elvis.
"Elvis heard it coming," Camp said. "It scared me -- I've never felt that sensation. It felt like something coming toward you, and then it made a big boom."
The last earthquake reported in the region was on Dec. 8, 2001, with a magnitude of 3.9, said Butch Kinerney, a spokesman for the Geological Survey in Reston, Va. Southern Alabama had a magnitude 4.9 quake in 1997.
C'mon, somebody take the flip! :yesnod:

My daughter said she felt the quake. Myself, I slept right through it. When I'm sawing logs, I think the whole house could fall down around me, and I'd never wake up, lol.
I just sent an email to a local custom install place, coincidentally called Matrix Installations. After repeated phone calls about a Lexicon trade, I never was phoned back to let me know what they could do on trade. Needless to say, I took steps in my own hands, and went out of town for mine. But I still wanted to let them know I wasn't happy with the level of service I received. Who knows who Tom is at this place, the email addressee. But that's who the email went to. I talked to a Joe. Maybe that was my mistake.

That shot is on an official fan site for Liv Tyler, so, unlike Geocities sites, they should have sufficient bandwidth to accomodate the few extra hits we add to their traffic. (The Houston Chronicle Comics page is not a Geocities site, either, so it is still a mystery why those images don't work for some of you guys.)When you download something from a web site using your browser, the browser passes a piece of information called the "Referer tag" to the server. The referer tells the server what site or page "referred" the browser to the item being downloaded. So for example, if I post an image on blahblah.com here on htguide, when your browser goes to download the image from blahblah.com, it "tells" the server that it's htguide.com that "referred" you to the image.
Some sites (e.g. Geocities) don't allow images stored there to be linked from other sites, and they "enforce" this by checking the referer tag. Some personal firewalls (Norton Internet Security), and even my Junkbuster stealth proxy, have the option to block the referer tags from being sent out (since some view them as an invasion of privacy). In some cases blocking this tag will enable linking to images that are otherwise disallowed (e.g. Geocities), but in the case of the Houston Chronicle site, it requires a valid referer tag to view the comic. My firewall blocks referer tags by default, so I can't see the comics even if I go directly to the Houston Chronicle site. At work I use stealth so I don't know if they would view from here or not, but my proxy also blocks referer tags so I would probably have the same problem here.
Ok, this was probably more information than anyone here asked for, but then by now one should know better than to post technical quandries in a forum that is regularly read by a certain geek! ;)

Bing,,That's right,,it was almost as if it needed some burn in time.
After about 5 minutes it seemed to run smoother.
I was concerned at first.
Trevor so is this just after you first boot? If so that could just be windozes booting up. XP and 2000 take a few minutes to finish loading up even though the GUI's up and running. On my Dell i can launch a web browser moments after it "boots" but it takes a minute or longer before outlook express launches.

Like what Pr@ said, things continue loading after the desktop appears. When the hard drive activity stops, then it's really finished booting. I try to wait until everything's loaded before I do anything, since sometimes conflicts can happen, or some of my protection (NAV) may not be loaded when I check my email and download a virus or something. 8O
Also, sometimes opening something the first time after a boot is slower than subsequent times, since Windows caches disk information in RAM for faster subsequent access. To see this in action, boot your PC and then access a large folder in explorer, and see how long it takes to load. Then close explorer, re-open, and access the same folder--it's a lot faster since the info is in memory already.
PCs don't "break in" per se like audio equipment. At least not in ways that would affect performance.

Hey Kev-- Thanks for the info on sites and images. If the pics I post are not my own, I always link to the original site to avoid copyright issues (which could be a problem if I copied them to my own rudimentary web page to be linked from there). If the owners and/or ISPs don't want others to view the images except by logging in to their sites directly, then I guess they use the techniques you've explained to limit/prohibit other access paths.... oh well. :>)
Interestingly, when I load this particular TTP page, my browser sends messages that it is trying to access YOUR site, along with others in sequence while the hour glass spins, apparantly showing where the linked images on the page reside. I guess when one comes back "Remote server cannot be accessed" it may be alerting me to the kind of rejection situation you've outlined. Or else it's "down". :>)

PCs don't "break in" -- in time, (seems like it's usually right after the warranty expires), they just "break" -- and that CAN affect performance. :>)

Hey Kev-- Thanks for the info on sites and images. If the pics I post are not my own, I always link to the original site to avoid copyright issues (which could be a problem if I copied them to my own rudimentary web page to be linked from there). This is the "correct" way to do it, though in a couple cases I've copied an image to my site if the site I was getting it from was overly slow or bandwidth limited.Interestingly, when I load this particular TTP page, my browser sends messages that it is trying to access YOUR site, along with others in sequence while the hour glass spins, apparantly showing where the linked images on the page reside. I guess when one comes back "Remote server cannot be accessed" it may be alerting me to the kind of rejection situation you've outlined. Or else it's "down". :>)It's probably hitting my site to get my sig quotes script, as I don't have any images from my site on this TTP page (Mats moved my avatar to the HTG site). If you get a "Remote server cannot be accessed" this means the site is down or inaccessible for some reason. If they block images based on referer, usually you'll get an alternate image that says "The image you requested is unavailable"--that's what I get when you post your comics for example.
What browser do you use? IE doesn't give out that much information while rendering a page.

It's not an issue of bandwidth... rather a protection from people linking to images from outside... Solved it on setting the URL correct plus uploaded the FLIP onto our server :)

What browser do you use? IE doesn't give out that much information while rendering a page.
I am using Opera 7.10, which gives out a ton of info on everything it does. It has a lot of other features a computer geek might love, too. :>)
You can download a free version, or pay for a version without advertising banners. Skip their opening page to avoid an enticing blurb about Opera and 'net access via Nokia cell phones. :>) http://www.opera.com/ and use this one instead to download: http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?opsys=Windows&lng=en&platform=Windows
Every time I've tried to access pics at Geocities sites, they have been extremely slow, so I just assumed any problems with links had to be bandwidth related. I'm glad to have more information now on what they are actually doing. I wonder if they employ the protection scheme to avoid having their images used in potentially embarrassing contexts, (to keep their intellectual property from being viewed in any way they don't explicitly set up themselves, although it would be a strectch to call some of the bimbos we've tried to take a peek at "intellectual") :>) -- or to preserve bandwidth? (Prohibiting the link in the first place would presumably be a lot cleaner than just letting multiple accesses time out.)
Burke
PS -- thanks Mats, for fixing it so everyone can enjoy Liv's radiant beauty.

Good afternoon everyone. It has been a long week already. But it has been a week full of toys. Check out my thread in A/V Chalet for my reciever shoot out. Besides the new digital camera, pictures to come soon and home phone; I just got a new mobile phone, Motorola T120, generously expensed to the company. It will only be $45.00 after rebate. I haven't played with all the features but it supports voice activated dialing. 8) With all these toys all I've been doing is reading manuels for 2 weeks.

I just discovered that my stealth proxy is making mincemeat out of the Liv Tyler hyperlink for some reason... Burke's original one didn't break things too badly (I just don't see the hyperlink) but then when Mats quoted it it threw the rest of the page off. Mats, I edited out the URL in your quote of Burke's post so I could read the rest of the page, and now I'm off to debugger land to figure out what my proxy doesn't like about the hyperlink (maybe it's too long or something)...
At first I thought it was a problem in the post (mismatched tags) or a HTG problem, but then when I turned off stealth it rendered fine. Go figure, I thought my stealth technology was stable.

Stealth proxy is fixed, and I edited the URL back into the quote in Mats' post, so things are as they were before this adventure started. :) Turns out it was treating the "text=" parameter at the end of the hyperlink as a text color parameter like you'd find in a body, tr, td tag and was stripping it and the ending quote off. Now it only strips these values from body, table, tr, and td tags. :) More information than a non-geek needs I'm sure. :)
But now for some reason I can't run my stealth in the debugger, it just hangs. I'll try deleting the work files and rebuilding and see what happens. Hey that worked. Gotta love Mickeysoft...

Ok ,,here is the story.
The Vette is my first experience with the stick.
A 6 speed stick that comes with 385 HP and 360 lbs of Torque to go with it.
Somewhat frightening for a rookie at this.:E
Anyways,,First is almost redundant..Second gear just smokes..
Talk about being thrown back in your seat..this is where it happens..
Now shifting to 3rd seemed uneventful..didn't have the jam I was looking for or expecting..I figured maybe I was shifting to soon or maybe too late and she was skipping third and going right to 4th instead..
Well, today I found out what was really happening..Instead of hitting third on my shifts,,I was pushing it up into 5th gear..:E
Today,,not sure how or why, but I connected into the true third gear and WOW!! She has the same power and torque as I experience in second ,,but from speeds from 60km to 120 km,,while not reving over approx 3700 rpm,,The juice is there and exceeds my expectations.
3rd is still hard to hit..I still slip it into 5th or 1rst(once):E,
while shooting for 3rd..
Anyways!!Today just brought on a new elevated appreciation for the power of the Vette , that I didn't have before.

And this is you when you find 5th: :driver:
I seem to recall that you have to rev it up in 2nd to get to 3rd, or else the Vette will lockout 3rd and make you find 5th. So don't chalk it to your inexeperience.
I think you ought to fly me up to show you how to shift gears. Don't worry I won't charge you a dime. :)

Thanks for the explanation about "third". Now the folks in your town had better really watch out for those gear shift moments ! :>)
Kevin -- In you geek-o-rama bag of tricks, do you know of an easy way to "kill" the caps lock key on a standard PC keyboard? It is really aNNOYING TO ACCIDENTALly hit it and not realize until later that IT WAS ON FOR MOST OF A SENTence. :>) I think someone out there must make a keyboard with the Caps Lock key relocated somewhere out of the way, while still including all the other keyboard functionality such as discrete (IOW, not needing to be "toggled") function keys, numreic keypad and cursor keys, but I haven't found one yet, so a programmatic "fix" would be a good fall back .

That 's right Burke!! ;) Beware of me and third gear..
The image is supposed to be a Viper..
I will have to fix it..
Paul..You may have hit the nail on the head with that explanation.
I know that there is some funny stuff that goes on with the shifting on the Vette.
It is supposed to enhance Fuel economy and keeps the Vette out of the gas guzzler status.
Makes sense about third being locked out..However it's not a whole lot of fun in 5th.. 3rd on the other hand rocks hard!!!
A TTP Meet would be AWESOME!!!!

Morning folks! I guess the word for today is MAYDAY! MAYDAY! :E Where's the year going??
Trev, there is a mod kit you can buy and have installed to disable the 3rd gear lockout "feature". It'll make driving the Vette even more fun! I have a friend who had a 6-speed Camaro with the same feature and he put the mod kit in and then he could use all the gears. Or how about this, I never have any trouble finding 3rd in my Saturn, how about we swap cars!?
If you think about it, you should rent or borrow a junker with a manual to practice on, since it's easier to learn to shift on a junker than on a powerful Vette. Plus you'll reduce the risk of destroying that drivetrain! Or fly me up there and I'll show you how it's done! (of course, I've never driven anything like a Vette either, so I might be just as bad! :B )
Oh yeah, next week should be fine for doing your website. If you fly me up we can work on it together and I can take your Vette for a spin, tune up your RPTV and your computers, secure your wireless network, yadda yadda. :)
Hey, Chris is back! Now where's Sonnie? Hopefully a crack in the earth didn't swallow him up! :grab:
Otherwise not too much going on in this neck of the woods. Though yesterday when I was walking through the parking lot I saw a gorgeous, shiny black Vette parked there. I haven't figured out who owns it yet, or how they can afford it working here, but stranger things have happened. Maybe it was someone visiting, or their spouse's car.Kevin -- In you geek-o-rama bag of tricks, do you know of an easy way to "kill" the caps lock key on a standard PC keyboard?Yeah, squirt some crazy glue under it, or pry it off with a screwdriver! I don't know of any other easy way except to watch what you're typing. :)

Trevor I wish I was there to help you learn. I started driving stick when I was 10...of course that was a tractor but the idea's the same ;) I was driving the old farm truck around then to but it was an automatick so I didn't drive a standard truck till I was much older (16)
so when did you all start driving? And what was your first vehicle? Mine was a 1974 Mustang II that my dad bought at a yard sale for $250:T I was very excited about that car but I only got to drive it for a week on the back roads since I hadn't paid the insurance yet...then a guy that was working for us took it for a drive and flipped it over going to fast on the gravel roads :F ....luckily the insurance company decided it was worth $400 so I made money on the deal:T After that it was a 83' pontiac phoenix (POS), then 78' pontiac sunbird (looked like a small trans am), 84' tempo, 85' Ranger truck, 87' Suzuki Forsa (POS), 84' Maxda 626, 93 Ranger and finally the 96 contour we're presently driving...I think that's all of them ;)

I'm sure I've posted them here before but here goes: my first car was a lt. blue '82 Olds Omega - it was my dad's but I drove it after I got my license, and then he sold it to me when I moved out in '87. The first thing I did to it after buying it (besides getting it to pass inspection) was to ditch the AM radio and put a nice Alpine system in. :) Then in '90 I got a '87 Toyota 4Runner, it was a fun vehicle but not very comfortable. In '94 I bought my first new car, a '94 Ford Taurus LX, fully loaded, leather and all. It was a POS, and after an incident in '97 I traded it in and got the '98 Saturn I am still driving today. The Omega and the Taurus were automatics; the 4Runner and Saturn were/are 5 speed.
I was 16 when I started driving.

Sheesh Andrew, that's ancient history. I was 10 or 11 and my grandfather had me sit beside him on my knees steering and shifting while he pushed the pedals. I think it was an old Buick Electra 225 - talk about a "lead sled"!
All the cars I've "had" or driven since then? Oh my. . . .
'66 Chevy 1/2-ton pickup - 3 speed on the column
'69 Pontiac Bonneville - auto
'69 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sport Coupe - (my first car) 350 V8, 4 bbl, auto, bucket seats
'72 Chevy 1/2-ton pickup - 350 V8, auto
'76 Dodge Coronet - school car
'81 Chevy Z-28 - auto
'82 Ford Escort - wife's car - 5-speed
'83 Ford Thunderbird - turbocharged, 5-speed
'65 Ford Mustang - V8, auto
'87 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - auto
'89 Ford Mustang GT convertible - V8, 5-speed
'89 Buick Riviera - wife's car - auto
'91 Ford Explorer - wife's car - auto
'94 Toyota 4-Runner - wife's car - auto
'97 Chevy Camaro - auto
'97 Ford T-bird - son's car - auto
'99 Chevy Z-71 1/2-ton pickup - V8, auto, 4wd
There may be one or two I've left out. Good topic! :T

Geez David...what's the import doing amongst all those domestics :P
I still have a soft spot for my '86 MR2. Nothing had a shorter throw and was a whoop to drive. Babies made me give it up...driving a neon and will soon move into a van...that's right a van :F
Originally I thought Montana was good ...but now I'm leaning towards Oddessy or Sienna. I've had my fill of domestics. The Dodge was enough and I'm back to Honda or Toyota.
This is my mid-life crisis vehicle:

Or

"A RONSTER!"
ok, here we go again:
Dune Buggy, had when I was 14. Learned to drive before that. Been driving since I could sit on my Dad's lap about. lol. Got some good experience on an old Willis X-Army Jeep. Who knows, maybe it was a 50 to 60 model.
First real car, 69 Oldsmobile 442, 400 small block, Auto, 350 horses from factory. 8O
72 Dodge Challenger, 340-4V, auto
76 Datsun 280Z *New
76 Pontiac Trans-Am
79 Pontiac Trans-Am (Still had Z too)
79 280ZX, shared with wifey
86 Toyota Celica *New, wifey
80 Pontiac Grand Prix
70 Mustang Mach I
88 BMW 528E
92 BMW 325IS
97 BMW 328I C
There were others, like company truck, Dad loaners while my car down or repaired or just because I wanted to drive it. I drove everything with wheels pretty much with Dad in car biz. This included rare Mustangs, Z28 Camaros, Chevelle SS-396s, El Caminos, MGBs, Midgets, you name it. Even drove an Austin Healy 3000 once. :)
The best car Dad had I wish he had kept was a 65-67 Vette with 3 deuces. Yum. :) What a screamer. But he sold it before I was 16. Had I been 16 at the time, I would have owned that car. :)

Sheesh, I feel like I'm behind the curve having only owned/driven 4 cars in the 20-odd years I've been driving. Actually I've *driven* others (who hasn't?) but nothing worth writing home about--mainly rentals, borrowed cars/trucks, etc.
Perhaps an extension to the poll would be what do you think your next car will be, or what you would *like* your next car to be? Me? Well, it depends on what my job and commute situation are like when the time comes (whenever the Saturn gives up the ghost, hopefully not for another 5-10 years at least). Maybe an Audi A4, or a Toyota Prius (how's that for a wide range? 8O ) If I have a highway commute, I'll go for something like the A4. If I have a crappy city slowpoke commute like I do now, it'll be a Prius or similar.
As for dream car, well I wouldn't mind a Vette :driving: Of course, if I reach the point where I can afford a Vette, toss in a small SUV or truck to haul stuff in while we're at it. :)

Not by choice, Pr@. A divorce caused me to sell it. I'd probably still have it otherwise. It was SWEET! "Springtime" yellow with black Pony interior, 289 V8, 3-speed auto with 1st gear lockout. And I'd gotten it into pristine shape over a 3-year period, too. Oh well, water under the bridge. . . .

Next car? I've been looking at something like the Suburu Forrester or some such cross over type "car". We need something that has more hauling capacirty then the contour and ideally something that has enough space in the "trunk" for the dog leaving the back seats open for the kids. I saw the new crossover from Dodge the other day that looked pretty slick (for a dodge!) but i don't see myself ever buying a dodge ;) I also saw the new van/car like thing from Honda on monday and I'm not sure which I hate more that or the Aztek  (ok the Aztek's worse but not by much  )

The following car was originally my mom's -- I got it in 1967 while I was in college:
1961 Olds F-85 (A) metallic gray -- gray cloth interior
All the following cars I bought new and I was the only driver:
1968 Opel Kadett (S) fire engine red -- black vinyl interior
1972 Datsun 240-Z (S) metallic root beer brown -- tan vinyl interior
1976 Datsun 280-Z (S) hunter green -- tan vinyl interior
1978 Audi 5000 (A) royal blue -- powder blue cloth interior
1982 Toyota Celica GT (A) metallic gray -- gray pinstripe cloth interior
1990 Honda Accord LX (A) burgundy -- ivory cloth interior
*1994 Honda Accord EX (A) snow white -- ivory cloth interior
* 1998 Honda Accord EX V-6 (A) hunter green -- ivory leather interior
* I looked at BMWs and Mercedes C-class, and decided I wanted a nice car and a home theater instead of just a really nice car :>)
(A) = Automatic transmission
(S) = Standard stick shift transmission

Honda Accords were before your time? What time was that? :>)
It's a shame you missed out on the Datsun Z cars (although they have been marketing refurbished ones recently.) They had handling refinement in addition to straight line acceleration. Lots of fun to drive...
There was an old coot in my neighborhood in the early '70s who drove a big-ass V-8 Cadillac who liked to pull up next to me at an intersection while I was driving the Opel Kadett and zoom ahead to ace me out, getting ahead of me in my lane right where the road narrowed to one lane from two. After I got the Datsun 240-Z he was never able to outrun me again, and I also learned that he had quite a repertoire of hand signals. :>)

When I lived in scotland I used to build go carts out of what ever scrap I could find to race down a long winding hill that was beside our farm. There was two other kids I used to race and one's dad was a carpenter that built two nice (heavy) go carts for the other two kids ($$) so it was always my fugly cart against their's...luckilly I usually won since I was lighter then them and I drove like a nut case  Its interesting looking back on your youth to see some of the patterns that helped shape who you are today...I was always building stuff as a kid (tree houses, forts, go carts etc) and was lucky to grow up on farms where there was always plenty of scraps to build on. My fathers a typical farmer in that he's spent a lifetime mastering the art of making do with what's available so I guess I had a good teacher :T I credit him for teaching me that you can do just about anything handy with a little guidance once in a while...things like wiring in switches to the panel, small plumbing jobs, building walls in the basement etc...no biggie you just need a bigger hammer and the will to just try it. I think "self taught" is the term that best applies to me :W

I missed the muscle car craze as well since most of the cars I could afford growing up were all from the mid 80's when gas misers were all the rage.
Those mini coopers have great style and handle pretty well I'm told....too bad they're a little costly at the moment.
David I always laugh out loud when I drive by an Aztek and wonder what the he!! the owner was thinking :?? I laugh at the kids in the civics with the huge wings and annoying whinny mufflers too but at least they're mostly just kids that don't know better yet

I didn't catch a view of the tail pipe but I wouldn't be surprised if it had one of those jet engine nozzles on it. Don't they know that those wings create drag and make the car slower? well you could always stuff a banana in the tailpipe. No wait make that a canteloupe! 8O
I guess it's more important for the car to look fast than to go fast, at least to those kids. I never notice the muffler noise over the THOOMPA THOOMPA of their crap music played through a crap subwoofer that makes the entire car, and any cars surrounding them in traffic, rattle.

Hey! I like the compact car culture. I like body kits, wild paint, low profile tires and the like. I wish street racing could be taken to the track but I have no problem with a throaty exhausts and big stereos.
It's a sub culture...and an expensive one to boot....too rich for my blood. On the whole it doesn't bother me...I think it's wildly expressive. :)

Hey! I like the compact car culture. I like body kits, wild paint, low profile tires and the like. I wish street racing could be taken to the track but I have no problem with a throaty exhausts and big stereos. You must be in your early 20s then. Wait 'till you're 36 and you see what (your?) kids are doing to their cars in another 15-odd years and you'll be thinking
I wouldn't describe those exhausts as "throaty" though... ;) And have you ever sat in one of those cars with the stereo blasting? I doubt it would come close to something a HTG member would consider quality audio... :roll:It's a sub culture...LOL, good one--that culture does tend to put subs in their cars! :)I think it's wildly expressive. :)I guess it could be but I think most kids just do the copycat thing. Expressive to me means coming up with something original. Putting giant chrome rims (what happens when you hit a pothole with those??), a F-16 wing and a coffee can on the tail pipe onto a rusty old Honda doesn't exactly qualify as "expressive" to me... But then that's just my old fart opinion. :)
When I was that age, I had a loud stereo in my '82 Olds Omega but it didn't have a subwoofer. But then we had better music to listen to back in the 80s, not the rap crap booma booma stuff kids listen to now where a 2000-watt subwoofer coupled with the factory squeakers is more than sufficient...

Nope... I'm 32...but thanks for the compliment ;) .
I'm guessing you're 36 because you mentioned "wait till you're 36"....that is far from 'old fart' territory...I hope 8O
I used to be a part of it and simply turned away because of time...family...money. Doesn't mean I still don't appreciate it. I also value other peoples opinions and tastes contrary to my own. That would include music, art, film etc... I don't listen to rap but I think it's valid expression. Read the words sometime....forget the music. There's more said in Rap than a lot of country or top 40 hits. Club music is repetative for a reason....dancing. I don't like all music but I try keep my options (and mind) open.
I think there's a place for it in the car culture as any other vehicle. It's not so much copycatting as it is following a trend...just like clothes or music. The look is everything from subtle to "out there". It's all valid.
Kevin, cheer up man! :D having a bad day?

we had better music to listen to back in the 80s I'm not so sure about that when I listen to the radio's lost 80's lunch hour. Techno back then was sooooo wrong. There's alot of forgettable 80's one hit wonders (anyone remember "Walk the Dinosaur"). Music themes rarely change...just the form.

Back on cars. :) So what watches have you owned. ;)
Started driving when I was 16. I actually had to take my driving test 3 times. Yup, you read right 3 freaking times. My dad taught me, so I guess I picked up some of his habits, but he was a good driver. So I drove the family cars for most of my life. Tercels, station wagons, my dad's Vette. :)
94 Saab 900, First car I bought, well with my wife. It was nice, but it was an automatic.
89 Colt Turbo, bought that used as a second car, loved the turbo, but it died way too many times.
2000 Honda Civic. 5 sp, actually we're selling this car. Anybody know of someone in the Vancouver area looking for a Honda?
2000 VW Golf 1.8t. Now this is the car that I've wanted when it was introduced.
I've got a ways to go before I buy another car. I figure I'll mod this one, exhaust, suspension and wheels. Then see what's out there. I figure I'll keep this for at least 5 years. Oh and my mods will be more for performance than just looks. Exhaust is to help it breath better, but keep the noise level down. I need to really reduce the body roll, and improve handling as I've got lots of power to get to the ground. And the wheels for additional grip. That's gonna cost a pretty penny, but I've got an upgrade path. Hmm, that phrase seems vagely familiar.
Trev: Hope you feel better.
David: I hope people know how to get into the moderator's area. Oh and my wife really likes the Mini. In fact they're having a promotion now for a no money down lease and $349/mth, and that's Canadian $.
Ah, now I'm getting spam on one of my Telus' email addy's. I knew it would happen sooner or later.
Oh funny computer problem. Every so often my PC just shuts down and tries to reboot. The problem is it hangs on the boot up, like it can't find the hard drives. Anybody have any experience with this? I just end up cycling the power switch and everything is fine again. The last thing I need is for my computer to go down again.
Oh, and my Palm isn't syncing via USB. So now I've gone out and bought a serial cradle. It syncs, but it's damn slow.

April was a great month! 2 key accomplishments:
1- Top producer in the office
2- Hired as an instructor for licensing course
The first is cool as I really set out to achieve that top spot and I hope to stay on top. :)
The second was more improtant to me. Firstly when the call went out for instructors, one of the criteria was that the candidate must have been with the company for 2 years. Well, I had only started my 6th month there, but I had a good reference letter from my branch manager. I've also been holding weekly tutorial classes, and have been very successful in getting people pass the licensing exams. So when the time came, out of all the applicants, 8 were interviewed, and 2 were picked! So my first class is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of May 16-18 and May 23-25.

OTTAWA (CP) - In a new twist on a weedy old political conundrum, Liberal leadership hopeful John Manley has turned the once-dreaded pot-smoking question on its ear.
The finance minister and deputy prime minister, 53, is on record supporting decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, a measure the Liberal government has promised to introduce this spring. But until now, Manley hadn't spoken about his personal experience with the drug. The question of pot smoking by politicians has become standard fare in recent years. Responses have ranged from former U.S. president Bill Clinton's disingenuous, "yes, but I didn't inhale," to Heritage Minister Sheila Copps's rather more enthusiastic "absolutely."
Could Canadians get any more mellow?
Needless to say creating quite the stir for officials in the U.S.
Hostess and Lays potato chips makers and other snack food companies everywhere prepare for an increase in sales in Canada. ;)

Kevin, cheer up man! :D having a bad day?No actually, I'm having a lot of fun with this!
I always figured the reason the compact car mod thing is so popular these days is because muscle cars are hard to come by/too expensive these days, so they try to make their cheap imports into "muscle wannabes". Most of the mods are (or can be) tasteful and look halfway decent but some of them are just plain tacky--for example the unpainted aluminum wing that sits a foot plus off the trunk lid, or the overly chrome-looking rims on a rust bucket. And no matter what you do to the exhaust, a Civic will never have the exhaust note of a big block V8. Nor will a coffee can tailpipe increase the car's performance (unless the entire exhaust manifold/piping is replaced).
Sure the 80s had a lot of forgettable music (hey, I have "Walk The Dinosaur" in my collection!) but it seems like there was a lot more stuff from the 70s and 80s that still has staying power 20 years later--how much music from the 90s and 00s will we be listening to in 2020? Heck I'll probably still be listening to my 80s music. :) There were a lot of gems amongst the cheese. Much more so than the 90s plus IMHO.
Yes I am 36, and all these years of sitting in a cubicle has turned me into an old fart somewhat prematurely. :) After all, I have an amp in my cube with tubes in it! 8O

Hey, guys, good to be back. That drive was LOOOOONNNGGGG. My left elbow got a bruise on it from resting it various places on the door for 30-35 hours. Strangely enough, after all that drive and long distance, I blew a tire on the trailer just 20 minutes from my house. Bummer.
Ever since then, I've been working on the house. Got a lot done! Painted walls, installed a hardwood floor, moved furniture, and did a lot of home wiring. I installed a Radio Shack TV antenna in my attic and then wired it to each room of the house. Got a bunch of Cat 5 and coax cable and connectors and am making my own cable. Wired a home computer network through the walls. Installed the TV in the master bathroom wired to the bedroom A/V equipment. (cool stuff) Even soldered my own RCA connectors. Nothing fancy. Put in a flagpole.
Basically, I've been working every day non-stop from the time I get up (sore as heck) until the time I go to bed. Getting up to speed at work, not going to war for a few weeks at least.
:boohoo:

Flagpoles on houses are kind of a tradition just about everywhere I've lived in the US -- North or South. At home, as opposed to a government building or business, it is basically a show of patriotism that most people only observe (IOW, actually display the flag) on special holidays like Independence Day or President's Day, or, of course, Flag Day. But when the country is at war, many people display them every day.

How do I do that or can I do it on my own.??You can, but why would you want to? Is it one big 60GB partition now? You'd have to erase everything off the drive (after backing up anything important) and start fresh, unless you use a tool such as Partition Magic (and then it's still a really good idea to back everything up!).
The only benefit I can see to partitioning is to have two partitions, one for the OS and one for data, so if you need to reload the OS you don't mess up your data partition.

I didn't realize I would need to delete everything.
The reason for the partitions is to seperate my programs.
One for
Windows
Internet downloads
Didgital photo's
Office stuff
Games
Movies ,Videos
This is how I have alsways managed my PC hard drives in the past.
Bing had always set these up for me so I wasn't sure how it was done.
However , I guess when he did them he was starting from scratch in the first place.
There is a lot preloaded on this Notebook so deleting everything is probably not the direction I would want to take..
So Bing!!

While typing this right now, I am thinking to myself that I would definately be calling DELL on the key board,if not for the possible upcoming fix.

Trevor Partition Magic can do that for you without having to delete anything...but like KJP says its always a good idea to back up your data first. There used to be some good reasons for partitioning but now with NTFS most of those reason's aren't as convincing as they used to. You could always just map a drive letter to a folder which would make it appear to be a partiton without the headache of actually partitioning...let me know if this interests you and I'll walk you though it (its incredibly easy to do)

Trev, I don't think you need to brek up your hard drive into so many partitions. Maybe 2 at max.. I left my dell as one big drive because I'll back up the important stuff to the network or CD. Most times when I have to turf the OS, I need to reinstall everything anyway so partitioning isn't as important for a notebook in my mind.
The Key board is silky smooth and solid. It just has the typical soft click, click, click of a short stroke notebook keyboard... Loving it! :yeah:
I have loaded it up with games as I'm going to Cam's this weekend. We hope to get in some serious play time on Ghost Recon and Raven Shield Multiplayer, team play. Man I love having a powerful notebook.. Now I'll have to upgrade every year like my desk top :loser: Which I should really finish some day

Actually, I am a STRONG believer in partitions. They can be very useful. First thing I will do to my Dell is swipe it. This is my partition layout...ahem, some of my anality will shine through here...
C:\ 1 Gb - for the XP paging file only.
Two reasons for having the pagefile on a seperate drive AND on the C drive. On its own drive it will not get fragmented as it would if it sat with other data. I also set the Min and Max size to the same value under the Virtual Memory settings. Thus, Windows does not waste time resizing it as it does if you let Windows manage the settings.
Also, I put it on C:\ because this will be the fastest of all the partitions. By a huge margin? No. But I believe in wringing every last drop of performance from my computers, and having the swapfile on the fastest drive helps.
D:\ 2Gb Windows XP
My drive exclusively for my OS. I keep the OS on a seperate drive because it is easy to reinstall this way. Just format the drive and reinstall. I believe in reinstalling at least once a year. Windows definitely gets cluttered after awhile.
E:\ 3-5Gb Programs
F:\ Remainder - DATA
No real reason for having two here, could easily just be one. I just like keeping my data seperate from everything else. What is nice about this is, if you need to reinstall, you don't need to back up anything - your data is on F:\, and it won't be touched if you format C:\ and D:\ and reinstall Windows.
That has been my setup for years and it works very well.

TGIF everyone!
Well Trev, I suppose you could find some happy medium between your existing setup (1 partition) and Jeff's other extreme (18? partitions 8O ) and go with that. The last few machines I've had I haven't bothered partitioning at all; I only did it in the past for dual/multiple boot configurations, or way back in the past when each partition could only be so large. The only diff is mine is a lowly 2.2 mhz while Binger has the ultimate 2.4 mhz ;x(I would hope you meant Ghz, not Mhz, otherwise your new notebook would be about neck 'n neck with my Tandy 102, or my TRS-80 Model III! 8O As for the 3d test thingy, you might need to install an updated DirectX from windows update, although I would expect XP would already have it.Here's a wild idea Trevor. Why not just use 4 or 5 folders? :LOL:That reminds me of the old days of the IBM XT, the first PC with a 10 megabyte (!) hard drive. I had to help someone out who wasn't able to save anything on the drive even though it still had 8 megs free. Turns out he had all his files in the ROOT directory, and the root directory was/is limited in size (at least in the FAT world). I had to introduce them to this innovative feature in DOS 2.0 called "sub-directories" (or what we call folders nowadays) :)
Funny toon Burke. Somehow I was able to access it this time. Yesterday I accessed the site with my proxy bypassed, the only way I could get it to come up. Now I accessed it with the proxy on and it still worked, so maybe it's using a cookie that's now stored on my machine rather than a referer tag. :)
I don't have the "key" to the mod area either, but then I don't really need it. Why is the meet info in there anyway, shouldn't it be out here where everyone can get to it? Not that I could make it anyway as we have no travel budget this year.
Well, that's it for now. Time to fire up some cool 80s tunes (for you Gordon!) on my tubicle system ;)

Trev, not sure why 3D marks will not run... What does it do (or not do) ? I have ran all the windows updates on the note book as it needed about 15 of them. I also uprgraded to Direct X9 , even though the card doesn't support it. Also check your Video Drivers, I had to update mine as well from Dell's site.
Jeff, I didn't mean to imply partititons are not useful. I could not do with out on my desktop, lots of various partitions, smallest being 20Gb, largest being 100 Gb. However for my lap top, it's not going to hold mission critical stuff, and if it does, it will be backed up ASAP. So in my situation partitioning isn't a nessessity. Sure I would have like 2 partitions, but I don't have...yet
Looks like you ran out just in the nick of time Andrew :)

Actually, its more than enough for me. Right now, my Windows installation is sitting at 903Mb - so I've got more than a GB to spare!! :)
Having said that, I do turn some things off, like Hibernation, System Restore...and remember my pagefile is on a different partition. I like to keep a slender Windows. ;)
Just came back from a refreshing morning walk. Part of my new exercise regime. Wonderful morning in the Peg. Streetcleaners are out getting the grub off the street. What's great about the Audi A4 is the base model is at a price that is more or less reachable by the average person, a luxury sports sedan for those who can't afford luxury sports sedans :) Of course, you get into the higher end models and load them up and the prices get into the stratosphere, but the lease rates and resale on the audis are real good too. Too bad the cabriolet version starts at $10K higher... I guess I won't be getting one of those unless I become wealthy somehow. ;)

Jeff --
Does the Special Edition of Amadeus offer optional "branching" to include the additional footage, or is it hard-spliced in with no option to see the movie in the original theatrical cut? While I could always go back to the flipper to see the original, it seems like the view-of-choice would be the new edition, since you report that the picture is so much improved . (Hard to believe that the sound could have been much improved, though -- it has always been pretty darned good.)

Maybe he didn't realize at the time that the door was open. :>)
A lot of people, including me, rarely just drop in on anyone unannounced. Surprise guests aren't always welcome due to circumstances of the moment, even when they've been told "come on by anytime". Also there are times, even when I am going right past the home of a friend, that other pressing business (usually the reason for my making the trip in the first place) put constraints on my time that would make it difficult to just drop in for a casual visit. And if I were walking a dog, what would I do with the dog? :>)
Perhaps you guys should get on the phone and coordinate a convenient time to visit (even if it's just five minutes in the future). That way, there'd be no question for either of you as to whether it was OK to stop in.

So ,,partitions may be what the doctor ordered.Actually for video I'd recommend against partitioning, since you're going to be creating some huge files and will need all your space on one drive. A 60 GB partition can (in theory) hold one 60 GB file, but 6 10 GB partitions can't hold more than 10 GB in one file. Make sure to use NTFS in any case since the max file size on a FAT partition is 4.3 GB or so.Nice car Kevin!! I am putting about 3500 miles a month on my Jeep driving back and forth between work and home. That is why I have no time to post. Hopefully in a month this will get much better and I can join TTP more frequently!
Sounds like some of you have been on spending sprees! 8) ;)

I must be one of the 3 people on earth that really don't care for J-Lo. Oh well. . .
I wonder who the other one is then
Over here!!! (As I raise my hand.) :>) J Lo does have a bit more actual talent than, say, Brittney Spears, (who has artificial "talent"), :>) but then that's like saying a McDonalds hamburger has more flavor than cardboard. Neither one is steak. :>)

Eeee-yow...tough crowd ;)
I was more impressed with the increasing number of movies that seem to get shot up here (middle of Canada, population smaller than Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa)...course we're benefiting from the "we don't have SARS yet" thing, "Chicago style" architecture and it's really cheap to shoot a movie here (though our dollar is really rallying these days)

This group spend money? Ha! Until I see the receipts, I won't believe it's more than just wishful thinking ... wait a minute -- I've actually witnessed one of these guys forking over the moohlah on some HT upgrades, so I guess it really is happening. :>)

If you're used to that kind of driving, then why not come on down to Houston tomorrow for our HT meet? (OK, I know, you wouldn't want to leave your youngest there while he's recuperating from his tonsilectomy, so you're off the hook.) :>) But it's good to see you posting here again!

I must be one of the 3 people on earth that really don't care for J-Lo. Oh well. . . Actually there are 4. I don't even care for that "J.Lo" moniker, like she's just so special. Yeech. At least after she marries that Affleck (sp?) guy (how come when I hear that name I think of a duck!? AFF-LACK! AFF-LACK!) the J.Lo will be obsolete.
I love Burke's analogy!
This group spend money? Ha! Until I see the receipts, I won't believe it's more than just wishful thinking ...Wishful thinking on my part... no new toys in quite a while, and none on the horizon either... certainly no Audi A4 for another 5-10 years, sigh...
T-storms coming, so I better hurry up and post this before the power goes out and we can leave early (wishful thinking again)...

Gordon,,I work in Saskatoon right now.
Andrew,,My former DM want's to come to work into his District.
There would need to be someone transfered out first ,then it would be mine upon asking..
But I am happy were I am,,moving is like starting all over again.
Our store does so well in terms of profit and sales , so a move for me is not a big gain in income,,in many cases it could be to lower income..

We have built an Empire here in the last 3 years.
Even Rome wasn't built in a day. :>) I can understand why you wouldn't want to move after you've really just gotten settled into that mans.. er, house, :>) and worked so hard to build up the business where you are. But I guess you know that if they get TOO insistent, you may end up moving any way.
One of my former bosses told a story about his brother in law who used to work for a manufacturing company as an assistant plant manager and aspired to being the plant manager. They offered him promotion to plant manager in Detroit. But he and his family were comfortable in Dallas, though, and didn't want to move. So he turned it down. But they told him they had been counting on him making the move and said he really had to take it, so he quit. Then he discovered that finding another job wasn't going to be all that easy and went back and told his boss that he was willing to move to Detriot after all. The boss said "that's good, we'll move you to Detroit. But since you turned us down the first time around, we' already filled the plant manager's job. It'll be a lateral move -- you're the new assistant plant manager up there."
So the moral is: when they ask you to move to Detriot, say yes the first time, and get ready to pack! :>)
Good luck! (Hope they don't make you move until you are ready.)
