You know there were some spooky parallels with the looting and last Mondays "3rd watch" where the police couldn't keep people away from an overturned amoured car...I'm sure it wasn't a stretch to write. Human nature isn't very different in most parts of the world....I'm not sure why it would raise that many eyebrows?...it's happened on this side of the globe more times than most people care to remember.

I had a genuine snipe attempt myself. As I refreshed and noticed Burke was running I made as quick a reply as I could to try to snipe him.
It was an effort none the less.
If I were an Iraqi I would most likely be acting in the way they are now. If our government tortured me and/or my family and some other country came to our resque and we were freed then I'd bash the government buildings myself and loot where possible.
You fellows have a great weekend.

Hey Guys!
It was my last day of classes today!! Yay!!

Bing - cool backpack. I know what you mean...I like nice backpacks too. I can't afford to collect them, but I want a better one for school next year. Friend of mine has a cool backpack - its got a straw integrated for a drink. Quite nifty. 8)
Blaming me for your Dell now eh? Bah! It's all fun, isn't it?? :)
Trev - cool news on the Sony. Sounds like a sweet monitor. I've never seen one in person, but I'd trust it if Bing gave it the OK. I'm known for being somewhat anal about things being PERFECT - I figure if it isn't perfect, whats the point??
Have a great weekend guys!

Jeff, it is mainly your fault... I was going to get a cheapo unit, but nooo... You said "don't do-it..." made me think other wise :smackbutt: :wedgie: ;)
This is all you need to turn any pack into a hydrating pack.
http://www.cascadedesigns.com/platypus/images/images_large/hosers.jpg
You can buy them at any outdoor store. I got mine at Mountain Equipment Co-op
I have a few of these. They are handy as hell for expedition backpacking. It so easy to to remain hydrated as you don't have to fumble for bottles. Even though I carry spare Nalgene bottles, if I empty the platapus, I'll stop and refill it with the water in the bottles.
Claude, your wife is buffed my man! Very nicely done, you tell her her that for us :T

No wonder we don't see to much of you Claude. I don't want to google over another man's wife, Ok, once. 8O But wow, she is buff for sure. Attractive too. :)

Claude -
I've looked through the Chrysler & Jeep sites and don't find "the Vette" listed anywhere. :>) I'm guessing you don't drive it to work... :>)
Andrew -
Can we assume that aliased URL is for info about the virus, or a "fix", and not a path to the virus itself? (I suppose I could click on it and find out, but I'd rather not get a "surprise".) :>)
As for 2 more to 1,000 -- all it would take is for a couple more folks to create TTP avatar IDs. Of course, that wouldn't be an increase in real members, but who's counting, anyway? :>)

Actually I did that, but it was still fun to ask. :>) Just as a matter of style, it seems to me a URL alias should be pretty well self-explanatory, or be explained sufficiently in the surrounding verbiage, rather than requiring extra steps to discover its true nature (e.g. "Hot Babe Photos" instead of "Look At These" or "InstaDeath Virus Info" instead of "InstaDeath"-- and those are all "dummy" examples, not live links to anything, but you could always right click on them and...). :>)
Or you could simply rub your magic lamp 3 times. But do you really want to use a wish on this?
Unfortunately, whatever I'm rubbing isn't a magic lamp, 'cause I'm not getting any of my wishes. But you can be sure I wouldn't waste a wish on "this". :>)

I hate to be the "bearer of bad tidings", but it appears that the main Forum page "Who Is Online" feature might still hae some operational quirks. When I first brought it up, here is what it showed.
In total there are 10 users online :: [ Administrator ] [ Moderator ]
Most users ever online was 55 on Apr 11, 2003 10:00AM
Registered Members: Burke Strickland, 7 Guest(s)
When I went back (same session, about two minutes later) here is what it showed:
In total there are 8 users online :: [ Administrator ] [ Moderator ]
Most users ever online was 55 on Apr 11, 2003 10:00AM
Registered Members: Burke Strickland, 7 Guest(s)
As you can tell, same number of registered members (one -- that's me) and guests (7), but the total count is different (10 the first time, 8 the second).
Now it says:
In total there are 16 users online :: [ Administrator ] [ Moderator ]
Most users ever online was 55 on Apr 11, 2003 10:00AM
Registered Members: AlvaroD, Oscar135, steveB, Burke Strickland, 11 Guest(s)

Wow, do you know how it got on your PC? Did Norton find anything else? I ask because theW32.HLLW.Nebiwo (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.nebiwo.html) worm can drop the Sdbot trojan on your machine. And Burke, that is a link to information about the worm! 8O
If you go to the bottom of the Sdbot writeup you posted a link to, it tells you how to edit the registry to remove the entry that causes the trojan to attempt to load on boot-up.
Cute pic Trev. :)

Trev -- Your cute cat pic reminds me of that scene in "Nixon" at a party where Martha Mitchell tells Nixon she saw a photo of him in the newspaper where he was standing next to a crowd of people on a street corner and he was looking directly at the camera while everyone else had their head turned to the side. She said loudly "It looked like you had just farted." (Nixon was not amused.)

If it was that simple I wouldn't bebothering you with it:) I looked in the registry at those keys and I don't see anything referenceing those two files at all. The only thing I see is a reference to syscon32.exe which might be the problem since I don't see that file on glenda's PC.

Pr@ - according to the writeup it can install itself under a number of different file names. If you look at your Norton activity log and see what file name was infected, look for that entry referenced in the registry. Also, when you boot up it's probably saying something like "Can't find such-and-so.exe", and that exe name would be what you would want to remove the registry entry for. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the syscon32.exe entry you found.
Do you have any idea how it got on your computer? Unlike viruses or worms, trojans don't spread, you have to receive and install it somehow, perhaps as part of something you downloaded. Or if you received a virus or worm that also dropped the trojan, you could get it that way too.
I don't know if I've mentioned this yet but I get to play DJ tonight at the semi-formal put on by Heather's youth group. It'll be fun but I'll be busy all day getting my CDs organized.

Anyone know how I could get sound for an old DOS game I have under Windows XP? I've got it running...but no sound. :( I know XP offers a lot of customisability with DOS programs, with the Compatibility option and the ability to have custom AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.

What browser where you using when it tilted?
There is 2 images, one with the flower that is positioned thru DHTML blipp & blopp to handle the display of online/offline status of the user on ICQ, and the button underneath. Works fine on my IE6.0.2800.1611 browser.

What browser where you using when it tilted?IE 6. What's funny is now it's aligned fine. Earlier today it was off kilter. Unless maybe it was the IE 5.5 on my laptop where it was off kilter. Let me check now... ah, that's it. IE 5.5 on my laptop, the ICQ button appears higher than the other buttons. IE 6 on my desktop it looks fine.
I only use stealth at work, during the week. I have normal page viewing on weekends. :)
Also, I fixed the quote tag in your post. It was missing the ending quote and right bracket. Mismatching quote tags really makes mincemeat of the page. :banghead:

Went and bought a bunch more plants today to help fill up my hex tank...I also moved the tetra's back into it and created a rock tank for the africans. They both look pretty sharp now but let me tell you catching those africans is a bitch when theres plants to take cover in. I ended up draining 90 percent of the water out then used the glass from the top to section off parts of the tank...still took me ages to catch the little buggars. Hi Guys!!
Andrew!! The fish tanks look great! Well Done!:T
I love Chiclids too!
They are a pretty aggressive fish.
I still have around 15 little guys left. Started out with around 50.
However, That will be the last time my fish will have babies since the Female has passed away.
The Male attacked her until she died..They always did fight once in a while,,but this one was pretty brutal. I think the female was starting to eat the babies and the Male was protecting them..
I managed to get about a 1/3 of the lawn raked before my back started to hurt so I took a break and will hopefully get some more done tonight.
I used to rake,,Now i don't.
I run the Lawn mower over the lawn..Bag it and the results are a nice clean fluffed grass as if it were raked and trimmed.
May have something to do with the 6HP Stanley Mower we bought last year..Sure makes a difference..for sure!!:hump:

You'll have to ask yourself what you are going to use it for. If it is for basic PDA funtionality like note taking, address booking, photo showing, get the Sony. It has a higher resolution screen and a lot more applications available for it. Best thing to do id go to Staples and try both out.

First rain of the year..The bummer part of it , is that I have the day off and was planning on driving the Vette with the top down..

Send that rain our way we need to clean the streets off as well. I think I'm going to do the lawn the same way trevor I have a 5HP lawnmower with the bagger so I'll see how well it can pick up the litter...I just don't have the time to rake the whole yard.

Andrew,,Driving the Vette is a BLAST!!!
Only thing is that I am sort of a reserved individual. http://members.shaw.ca/TTP/aahide.gif So I have to get used to everybody looking my way when I drive by and the attention I get.
I have been given many thumbs ups!!
Plus one guy pulled up beside me,honked and rolled his window down to ask how much HP the Vette was packing...His Jaw dropped when I told him 385 HP..
I think I'm going to do the lawn the same way trevor I have a 5HP lawnmower with the bagger so I'll see how well it can pick up the litter...I just don't have the time to rake the whole yard.
Definately!!,,The end results are better than you can get from racking the lawn.
Ensure to use a bag..Go over the lawn twice and raise the lawn mower Blade a tad higher than what you would normally cut the lawn with..
I swear my Lawn is super clean from dirt , dust ,leaves and had that fluffed ,racked look to it..
Yet it was so easy!!

Trev just remember to discharge yourself before handliing the RAM and everything should be pretty straightforward. That said...it all depends on your comfort level....you'll have to dig up the manual...but it's like Lex said...most of them require you to lift off the keyboard...probably have to pop your battery and CD-Rom out to get access to the proper screws. Good luck :)

I hate to be the "bearer of bad tidings", but it appears that the main Forum page "Who Is Online" feature might still hae some operational quirks. When I first brought it up, here is what it showed.
I know of this one and will fix it on Sunday
OK, the counter has been tighten up a bit. There will still be an error on the total count during a short time after you have logged in. While a person isn't logged in and doesn't use cookies to tell who he/she is I have nothing else than the IP number to go on to count this user. As soon as trhe person is logged in I have the name to go on. Now the problem is that both the IP number and the Name is in the session counter until a new page is displayed and I can delete the record containing the IP number... This makes up the error (but now for a very short period) (I hope) :)

Well,,I just did a real bad thing!!
I bought a DELL 8500 Laptop,,and I don't even need it..
I saved $1183 on it so I bought it..
Actually I will use it as a Photo album to store all my digital pictures on it.
I just couldn't resist..
$3299 for a fully loaded to the gills 8500 which would have cost $4364 if I had configured it through Dell.
I found the special through MSN Canada.
A Dell E-Code Special.

Trevor - That is going to be an expensive "photo album", but what the heck. You don't have much else to spend the money on :>) and actually, with all the graphics you deal with, it makes sense to have a machine set aside for that purpose. Adding memory on the Dells is really pretty easy, and sounds like a good idea for graphics rendering.
Enjoy!

I'm really kicking myself for not ordering the Dell last week. If I order through the Small Business section, I get a free upgrade from 256 to 768Mb of RAM, which makes up for it a bit...but its still more than it was last week.

Did you install the added memory to your Sony successfully??
Jeff,,It's really easy to install the ram.
I took out 8 screws, but in the end only need to remove 2 which unreleases the keyboard. The ram chip is under there.
Unfortunatley, there is only one slot..128MB seems to be integrated.
The other 128 meg chip sits in the only available slot..So for me to upgrade to 384 MB., I have to completely replace the 128 meg chip.
I purchased a 128 meg chip from Crucial..So now I have to return it.
I reordered a 256 MB chip from crucial today.
When it arrives I can then upgrade the memory..
It will be very simple to do though.
Bing,,
You are an Inspiration.. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
We will be Dell buddies.
The .17 mm dot pitch will be sweet.
I will need to hold tight on the new monitor and PDA though.. :?

:sn :sn :sn Hi gang, happy Monday! :sn :sn :sn (blatant Erik rip-off)
I can finally spill the beans, Jen and I bought the house on Orcas Island in Washington state! We won't be moving up permanently for a few years, yet - probably 5 or 6. But hey, we've got our retirement home. We'll be in very good shape by the time we move up, too. Eating a LOT of macaroni and cheese and other low-cost things will do that to ya'.
;)
I DID find out that it is possible to furnish an entire 3-bedroom house in a day-and-a-half this weekend - sheesh, I'm tired! It's almost as tiring trying to coordinate the financing, closing, inspections, carpet and flooring installs and everything else from 2000+ miles away. What a circus. . . .
Here's a view from the deck facing South.
http://webpages.charter.net/djm97/view_small1.jpg
Here's a shot of the land with a corner of the house showing. This is taken from the apartment above the separate 2-car garage.

As for your mp3 file, try putting a .mp3 suffix on your file name. Also nix the space in the name, spaces don't always translate well in hyperlinks. And from the "Tasteless Messenger Spam" department, my firewall captured this gem this morning:From: Message Crusher
To: You
STOP! Don't you HATE these things? Yes
Pop-ups like this are a 'feature' built directly into your operating system by Microsoft. Disabling this 'feature' has previously been near impossible, leaving your computer WIDE OPEN to the scum of the internet. (Scum like you, right? Impossible to disable this 'feature'? I can do it in under 30 seconds!)
However, MessageCrusher has created software that secures your computer and gets rid of these annoying pop-ups forever! (I still fail to see the point in spamming people to sell anti-spam software! What's next, heaving bricks through people's windows with ads for a glass company attached?)
Act now and be protected in 2 minutes. (I can do it in under 30 seconds, without your software, thank you.)
Website : (URL deleted)While on the topic of spam, I found one in my Yahoo mail that had some images I'm not about to post here. 8O Not only that, the email used some words I don't use (yes, words WORSE than the "F" word!)

Well, it's not as sexy as Mats' flip picture, but I like it. It's a drawing of Orcas Island and the dot on the lower left shows the approximate location of the new house.

Wow a flip already. Nice one David. Well I got my taxes done and it looks like I'll be getting some money back. The question is what do I (we) do with it? Allison and I have partly decided to pay off one loan and keep a little of the money to get ourselves a little treat. I may put it to the side and save for a new reciever but I don't know if I have the will power not to spend the money  . Probably going to spend the money on building a new PC.

David -
Congratulations on landing deal on the house! That's great news. Sounds like you have things well planned out for getting things set up. (Just be careful who you rent the garage apartment to -- that could turn out to be a long term business relationship.) Is it safe to assume that your longer term plans for the place include a home theater?
Looks like that boat will be a fun way to get back and forth from the island to the mainland. Is the boat going to be named "Macaroni & Cheese"? :>) I imagine once you move there, you'll have a car parked permanently at a marina on the mainland side...

I have a boat. It's a 16-incher or so, remote controlled, we drive it around the pool in the summer. It throws quite a wake, the water gets choppy after running it around the pool a few times. :) Maybe this year we'll get another battery for it so we can use it more.I just found out that Lauren will also be a british citizen since I hold a valid british passport.Cool. I'm not sure how useful that is either unless perhaps she travels to the UK and back. I guess you can chalk that up as "one of those new things you learn every day" :)

Was more of a beginner course, which I didn't really need...but it was a nice refresher I guess.

Our US members are probably busy doing last minute finishing touches on their federal income tax returns. (We know the Canadian members are busy racing your sports cars and tinkering with your new computers. Or is it vice versa?) :>) Anyway, earlier today I had to ditch one tax program that I had acquired online because it was so "busy" with ads for version upgrades, the actual tax computations kind of got lost. Rather than pony up for the next level of that program, I ventured over to Best Buy to pick up a CD-ROM based program and found that all they had left was Tax Cut. They still had a display for Turbo Tax, but it only had a product that serves as a "shoe box" for next years receipts -- it WILL NOT do you taxes even though it cost more than the full blown Tax Cut program sitting in the next bin. Needless to say, that's what I got. (Tax Cut, not the "shoe box" program.) :>)
The Tax Cut program was pretty easy to install and walk through -- I had everything entered and ready to print in less than an hour -- and that was even with streaming online news updates from a friend via ICQ. :>) But then, I discovered the program's Achilles Heel. It simply wouldn't print correctly over my in-house network. It would print the cover page (which basically tells you to sign the forms and put a stamp on the envelope) :>) and page one of the return -- and then it spit out several pages of jumbled garbage, if it printed anything at all. I rebooted the print server, the printer, the computer, downloaded an updated set of drivers -- nothing worked. I'm sure one of these days I'll figure out what the network doesn't like about the way the program is configured, but the "brute force" method worked great -- hard-wired the printer to the computer and it printed flawlessly without a hiccup. Twice (once for the IRS and then again for my records.)
It will be in the mail tomorrow. Early. I don't want to fight the crowds that queue up at the post office late in the day. :>) I could have filed electronically at no extra charge, but I've read else where that Tax Cut is selling personal data that goes across their server and decided that even though they claim that doesn't include data off the returns, I'd rather not take any chances. And anyway, I owe money and so I would have to send in something in the mail anyway.

Mornin' folks. OSIT.
Burke, I've been using TaxCut for 4 years now and it's worked well for me. It was fortunate for you that they had only TaxCut and not TurboTax since TurboTax now has a nasty spyware/copy protection scheme in it (think XP activation but far worse). You could also have done your taxes online on either the Taxcut or Turbotax web site as well, with no software required.
I did mine a month or so ago, and got enough money back to cover one month's worth of bills after I lose my job. That's how I categorize all my money now, until this merger thing wraps up and we know what the he11 is going on and if we'll still have jobs this summer.
Trevor, dude, you're getting a Dell! Is your Sony going to be jealous? ;)

Hey Pr@, ya know that Sdbot trojan you had on your laptop? I came across this writeup on Symantec - it's another worm that can drop Sdbot, which can spread via email or Kazaa. I wonder if you got it through this: W32.HLLW.Morb@mm writeup (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.morb@mm.html)
NAV definitions that detect this worm came out yesterday, so if you got it over the weekend, Norton wouldn't have caught it, though it would catch Sdbot. It's a long shot since Morb isn't wide spread but ya never know.

Sony Mini Disk Player
For the life of me I could not get it to work. Everytime I tried transfering files it would start the transfer, the minidisk player would initiate, and show that a transfer was in progress, but then it would state Media not found, kinda like a time out. Other times it would just lock up my system forcing me to reboot. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Open Media Juke box a few time with no avail.
I looked for software updates, however all is current, I dowwnloaded the Via USB filter drivers, but that didn't help either.....
It's not what I though it would be, it actually has to convert MP3 over to it's choice of formats.

Pr@, do you have Client for MS Networks bound to TCP/IP (the binding option doesn't seem to exist in 2000/XP though)? Also try enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Is file sharing enabled on Glenda's PC?
Also make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is installed. You don't need it to surf the net but you need it to access shared folders. Actually, this is probably it based on the message you're getting. Install Client for MS Networks and you should be good to go. :)

A woman was very distraught at the fact that she had not had a date or
any sex in quite some time. She was afraid she
> might have something
> wrong with her, so she decided to seek the medical
> expertise of a sex therapist.
>
> Her doctor recommended that she see the well known
> Chinese sex
> therapist, Dr. Chang. So she went to see him.
> Upon entering the
> examination room, Dr. Chang said, "Prease, take off
> all your crose."
>
> The woman did as she was told. "Now, get down and
> craw reery, reery
> fass to odder side of room." Again, the woman did
> as she was
> instructed.
>
> Dr. Chang then said, "OK, now craw reery, reery fass
> back to me." So
> she did..
>
> Dr.Chang shook his head slowly and said, "Your
> probrem rerry bad. You haf
> Ed Zachary Disease. Worse case I ever see. Dat why
> you not haf sex or
> dates."
>
> Worried, the woman asked anxiously, "Oh my God, Dr.
> Chang, what is Ed
> Zachary Disease?"
>
> Dr. Chang sighed deeply, and replied:
> "Ed Zachary Disease is when your face look Ed
> Zachary rike your ass."

Bing, does the MD player record via optical from your CD player, or via analog? If that works, the MD player is probably fine, and it's a software issue. If not, then you may have a bad MD player.
MD uses ATRAC compression, so MP3s would have to be converted. MD is ideal for recording from CD digitally or from analog sources. I use MD when I work out (portable) and for DJ gigs (I have some discs pre-made so I can take bathroom breaks, or dance with my wonderful wife ;) )
Sorry guys I don't know what you are smokin but I'm having one hell of a time finding that Ferrari????????? :PI don't see a Ferrari either but then my Stealth(tm) technology might have something to do with it... :tired:

Pr@, do you have Client for MS Networks bound to TCP/IP (the binding option doesn't seem to exist in 2000/XP though)? Also try enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Is file sharing enabled on Glenda's PC?
Also make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is installed. You don't need it to surf the net but you need it to access shared folders. Actually, this is probably it based on the message you're getting. Install Client for MS Networks and you should be good to go.
Funny thing is last week everything was working fine and I could browse all the shared folders on both PC's easily but I then enabled WEP on the wireless side and now it doens't work. I've tried removing WEP but now both the LAN and WLAN don't seem to see the network. I do have Client for MS installed as well as file sharing...but obviously there's something missing on the notebook. I'll keep fiddleing with it.

EJ, yep, I think it's going back, which is a shame for it really looks like a nice unit. It's just more bother and time consuming thAN i ANTICIPATED.
Kevin, yes it can record via Optical input from a CD device, or with USB2.0. I don't think it's the unit, rather the SW interface and my PC. I'm not sure I like the format of having to check in and check out songs so it can be digitally secured from copyright infringement... I feel the sofeware is just trying to take too much control of my tunes. It's a nice unit, but I don't think it's what I'm really wanting, unless you can convice me of it other wise. You have till the end of the day 5:00pm Central Time  or else I'm going to trade it in on an Apple ipod for Windows. With a 10GB hard drive I can hold 5200 songs 8O

Bing IMHO if you want to download MP3s into your portable then get an iPod or similar. If you want something for recording from CD or from analog sources, MD is the way to go.
Of course if you get MD, next thing you'll want a home deck and a car deck. Unfortunately they're hard to find these days in the USA (they're still big in Japan though). I grabbed a Sony MXD-D3 deck a couple years ago which is cool because it can copy CD->MD at 4x speed, and it's a handy unit for DJ gigs.

Thanks for the feed back Andrew, EJ and Kev....
I have to admit, there is something inherently cool about the minidisc player.
What compression rate are you using Kevin and how many songs are you getting on a Disc?
Is there actually a difference if I record something with the Mini Disk or Rip something into a MP3 for the iPod? It seems like it 6 of 1, half dozen of another.
When you record with a Minidisk, is it a 1:1 recording? Like a 70 Min CD takes 70Mins to record? Disregard, I read you said 4x.. and thinking about it, the MD play I bought is a 32X record Maybe I'll try it again tonight before I return it.
The 56 hour battery life of of the MD player's AA battery sure kicks the crap out of the iPod's 11 hour lithon battery, not easy to replace as well probably.
One aspect I like of the iPod is it can be used to store/transfer data and files as well. That and I could store 1/4 of my MP3 collection on it, the good stuff anyway. You could actualy store the songs at CD quality as well, albeit at the expense of capacity...
I was looking at the Creative Nomad Zen, but it is a bit bigger in size and not as sexy as the iPod or Sony MD player.
Thanks for your help guys...
Andrew, at times I have felt as that cartoon.... Too tired to keep my eyes open, but still places to surf to :P

What compression rate are you using Kevin and how many songs are you getting on a Disc?Standard MD holds 74 or 80 minutes depending on the disc. Mono mode doubles the capacity, and newer units have LP2 and LP4 compression rates that double or quadruple the capacity, but losing fidelity. My units don't have LP2 or LP4.Is there actually a difference if I record something with the Mini Disk or Rip something into a MP3 for the iPod? It seems like it 6 of 1, half dozen of another.Depending on the bit rate and quality of the codec used to create the MP3, it may sound the same or worse than MD. MD comes real close to CD quality, better than many MP3s.When you record with a Minidisk, is it a 1:1 recording? Like a 70 Min CD takes 70Mins to record? When recording analog or through the optical cable, yes. If you have a NetMD and record through the USB it's faster, probably 5x since that's the compression rate. My MXD-D3 will record CD to MD at a 4x speed, so it takes 20 minutes to copy an entire 80 minute CD.One aspect I like of the iPod is it can be used to store/transfer data and files as well. That and I could store 1/4 of my MP3 collection on it, the good stuff anyway.MD won't do that. Well there is a "Data MD" format but the discs are expensive and I've never seen a drive. If Sony had done a better job marketing MD it could have taken off as a replacement for the floppy. A standard MD can hold about 128 MB of raw data.
Both formats have advantages. MD allows you have a library of recordable discs, whereas the iPod keeps all your stuff on a hard drive, so it's "fixed" more or less once you've copied stuff to it (e.g. you can't switch discs while jogging and play something else, unless you already downloaded it). But then with the capacity that doesn't matter much.

I like to have your guys opinion. Thanks to the tax lady, Allison and I are getting some money back. I'm pretty sure she wants blinds or something down those lines. But I'm not sure what I would like. These are some of my ideas. Nothing is definite but a man can dream.
1. Build a Mac Daddy computer
2. Buy a table saw and build a pair of Kit281 ported.
3. Get a WS FPTV. (Wouldn't take much to convince Allison)
4. Get a Rotel RSX-1055. (lots of begging)

Just driving home from exam and turned down my side street. Big pack of kids walking home from junior high. They are taking up the whole width of the street. They can clearly hear me coming, but they don't move. Whatever, I didn't slow down, and it was funny watching them dart when they realized THEY would have to move. What is it with kids these days?? Think they own the world. I think this is just one thing that is really wrong with society today.

Hey guys, long time no post.
Pr@: Belated congratulations on your new baby girl!
Erik: Hey congrats on your expected new arrival. You hoping for a boy or girl?
Trev: You the upgrade king!
Lex: Nice order. Keep them cats going out the door.
Jeff: I know, I live by 2 highschools and kids are more inconsiderate these days than when I went to school. I knew a friend who would just walk out into the streets.
David: That's a nice house you got there. Put us down for a visit.
Bing: I've had my MD for a couple of years now and I'm just starting to get the most out of it. I've recorded on LP4 and the loss in quaility is noticable, but it doesn't concern me as much. The LP2 mode is really good. My MD player does not have the ability to transfer files between cpu and MD at faster than 1x. I used the USB to optical a couple of times, but I didn't like where the track marks were placed. I also don't have that much on MP3. What I've been using more is the ability to record live seminars and presentations. This is just unbelievable. In fact I practically give a mini MD primer when I pull out my unit. I've got a seperate mike and the 5hr recording time just rules!
Mats: Thats some great functionality to the forum that you've added.
24 Back on tonight! Can't wait to see what happens next. Fox's ads for the show suck, I mean there's nothing going on between Jack and what's her face, Kate.
Alias: Where the freaking hell is the show! Repeats, are we in summer yet?
Survivor: Rob is king!
Hi to anybody I missed. Congratulations, I'm sorry to hear, cheer up, and tomorrows another day! See ya guys later!
Here's what happens when a kid loans his car to another kid, to supposedly just pick up his girlfriend a couple of blocks away. My daughter's been seeing this kid. Granted, a Dad's never happy about that. But here's his car now. To bad for the kid, I think he had insurance, but even if it pays, it's going through the roof likely. The car's totalled. He's not got a lot of advantages money wise. he worked summers to pay for all the work on it. Apparently his "friend" had little respect for that or anything else. Seen hotrodding through a neightborhood, I think.

You are welcome E....
Howba areba youba guysba? I liked Fat Albert myself back in the day.
I have been really surprised at how many tax returns I have prepared in the last 4-5 days. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. (Including myself!)
Paul, 24 has been a little weak the last few weeks in comparison to previous shows, but still an excellent show. It will be hard to beat season 1 IMO. Not sure what's going on with Kate and Jack.... figure they would have hooked them two up by now maybe?
Alias is on repeat mode no doubt. I suppose we will have to wait until the Fall for the new shows.
Survivor.... I don't know. I thought Rob was a prick myself. But he is probably playing the game the best. My favorite has done been voted off.

She has been seeing the guy that loaned the car. The paint job is what is called "Flip Flop". Very expensive, like 3K for the paint job, I am guessing.
There are different colors of flip flop. Some 2 color, some 3, even 4 color I think. It does make a striking look for a performance car. Or in this case, it did.
I'm not certain about the driver, he was being checked out at the hospital, and they were concerned about his head. But I haven't heard more.

...the hair cut was one of the worst butcher jobs I've had in a long long time.
Andrew, did you know the difference between a good and bad hair cut is about 2 weeks?
So I go to Compusmart and who do I see perusing the isles, desparately looking for something to buy???? None other than our TTP founder himself... That's right Trev :wedgie:
So, anyway we had a lot of fun looking at PC toys and just shooting the sh*t. I'm sure the sales staff just looked at us and rolled their eyes  In fact they just left us alone as we played with everything in the store and chin wagged about everything in general.
Trev and I taked about PC, speed, power, toys and what we have to do to improve our computing experiences. :blah:
I had to submit to Trev that he is in fact still the reining SUPER PI http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/champ.gif even though I have a bigger motor in the garage. it dosen't mean anything if it ain't running :wedgie: ;x(
It was a fun experiance to be sure.. Afterward I listen to the kick ass stereo in his Intrepid and then we moved on to Office Depot where we proceeded to look and play with more toys. I we probably would have ventured off to Future Shop and continued on playing but it was getting near closing time.
Thanks for the fun evening Trev

Hey Guys!!
That's right!,,
I ran into Bing at CompuSmart.
It was a Blast trying out all the new stuff and criticizing the crap.
I ended up buying a can of Air.. :nutkick:
Bing was Out of Control!! Like a kid in a Candy shop!! :yesnod:
He ended up buying the IPod that was mentioned before, although at the time I didn't realize you guys were talking about it prior here on the guide.
Funny thing,,They had a 10 GIg version , and I was trying to tell Bing that would be all he would really need.. :wedgie:
However he kept on insisting on 20 Gig version..He even demanded a 40 gig version be brought out for him..
Unfortunately there was no such thing as a 40 gig version and they didn't have the 20 gig in stock so the 10 gig was settled on. ;x(
Anyways ,,it was a pretty cool evening as we tire kicked computer stuff for almost 2 hours..
Now I have a whole new slate of things that I want to buy! :nutkick:

RED ALERT GRAPHICS MASTERS
I've got to do a promo poster for my buddy's drama group. Was gonna use PSP...but I have no clue about this...is there a way to calculate the size of the image on paper? What I mean is, he wants an 11x17 sheet...how do I do that in pixels? Me dumb. :loser:

Morning gang! :coffee: Must have coffee. . . . ahhhh, better.
Jeff, I'm no graphics master but back when I was dealing with aerial photography you'd take the pixel count per inch (300 dpi, 100 dpi, etc.) and multiply it by the size you wanted the output to be. If you are drawing/outputting this at 100 dpi (dots per inch) then an 11x17 would be 1100 pixels by 1700 pixels. If you are working at 300 dpi then it would be 3300 pixels by 5100 pixels. Now, this may be different in the modern graphics world. . . . Good luck.
We may be able to move the close on the Orcas Island house up a few days. We're completely done with financials and stuff. I just need to find an insurance agent.

Normally all decent tools can set up the working area in either pixels, metric or inches so it shouldn't be any problem. Now, I'm a Photoshop/Fireworks kinda guy and don't remember how PSP did this but I'm pretty sure you can select it when you create a New images right away...

Morning folks, or as the newlyweds of TTP would say, "hump day" :leghumper:
Jeff, you don't have to have the pixel size of the image match the paper, because you can scale the image to fit the page when you print. Matching the size gives the best quality though. Multiply the DPI resolution by the number of inches to get the number of pixels for each dimension. In reality you'll have a border around the edge since most printers can't print all the way to the edge of the paper so you'll have to deduct that.
Cool new smiley Mats. My current favorite is :nutkick: . If I watch it cycle it makes me

Snow here is pretty darn depressing.....
Trev   :wedgie: Haha, that's not the way I remember it. It was more like, Trev: "What, you guys don't have DLP projectors??!!!" "Bing, I have an idea for the 17" Sony Widescreen that I though would be to small.... I'll get 2 of them and use it as a dual head display, that would be good" He then insisted that Compusmart have 2 of these in stock for him... heheh That was fun wasn't Trev?
You accidently ordered a F520?!?! Too funny, I just spit coffee all over my monitor!
Lex, I felt taller, richer, being in a toy store with Trev :hump: Crazy car crash. Looks to be a slightly modded Civic ride.
Jeff, what everyone stated about PSP. You can even do a Multiple print and then just drag the image to size to print, even though you are printing 1 image only.
Thanks on the MD player Kevin & Paul... As Trev stated, I went with the iPod. It just seemed better suited for what I wanted in a personal music player. This thing is sweet! I uploaded 1,600 songs last night, pretty much every MP3 I own, and I still have about 3GB of space left. With the firewire port it downloaded very fast. The functionality of this thing is super cool! I'll take some picture later to show it off.
Have a good day EVERYONE!

Pr@ I bet there's something like that out on the web if you hunt around. The trouble is, accessing the bios isn't so simple in the 32-bit windows world since the OS doesn't allow just anything to be accessed by applications. In the DOS world it's a piece of cake. Maybe the S/N is accessible from the Windows API somehow and can be retrieved by an app. What do you need this for? Do all BIOSes have serial #s?
If I come across something I'll let you know.
Sheesh, Trev, you're making us all look poor with your willy nilly spending these days... :-y Of course I *am* poor these days.

We have a script that runs when people log into the network at work and part of script is collecting information about the PC to help with an inventory of what every DU employee is working on. It also updates your NAV and checks to see if you've got the service packs installed etc. I took a quick look on the web but didn't see what I was looking for..I'll keep digging though but I figured I'd ask the expert first

What kind of computers do you have at DU? You might check on the manufacturer's website. Dell for example has a program that will give you the Dell Express Service Code and Service Tag information, which I presume is in the BIOS. It also has the option to save to a file. I don't know if it can be run in an automated fashion from a batch file but it's worth a shot. They may have inventory/asset management tools you can download.

Enterprise Edition is the one you want However you will have to load it on individual machines :( and then run a server and you can inventory ALL the machines....EXTREMELY COOL for free

thanks gordon that program looks like it can get the serial number so at least we know its possible. Now we just need a script version of it.

Kevin what does this all mean? MS SMBIOS Help (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/scriptcenter/scrguide/sas_cpm_jtzr.asp) It appears as though it can do what I need but its WAY above my programming skills

Andrew it looks like they pretty much give it to you.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/compmgmt/scrcm41.asp?frame=true
Description
Retrieves part number, serial number, and asset tag number from SMBIOS-compliant computers.
Script Code
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\" & strComputer & "ootcimv2")
Set colSMBIOS = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * from Win32_SystemEnclosure")
For Each objSMBIOS in colSMBIOS
Wscript.Echo "Part Number: " & objSMBIOS.PartNumber
Wscript.Echo "Serial Number: " & objSMBIOS.SerialNumber
Wscript.Echo "Asset Tag: " & objSMBIOS.SMBIOSAssetTag
Next
Save it as a .vbs and then run as they mention a couple of paragraphs up:
You can run script files from the command line in one of two ways:
Type the name of the script, including its file name extension, at the command prompt:
HardwareAudit.vbs
Type the name of one of the script hosts followed by the name of the script:
cscript HardwareAudit.vbs
wscript HardwareAudit.vbs
Then tweak it :)

Pr@, that vbscript in that site might just do it for you. I tried running it and I didn't get a serial # though so it might not work 100% on all computers but it's worth a try. Copy and paste the code in to a .vbs file and launch it from explorer and see what you get.
I made some more emoticons (what can I say, I'm bored!) Which is your favorite, the blonde http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/misc/blonde.gif, the brunette http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/misc/brunette.gif, or the redhead http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/misc/redhead.gif

Thanks guys I found that I couldn't execute the vbs file I had to call it a vbs to get it to run since VBS was set to open with notepad. No biggie it works great on my machine. Now I just need to find a way to write out the number as a text file instead of a display...

Pr@, you need to use the Scripting.FileSystemObject to write to a file. For example:Dim fso, tStream
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set tStream = fso.OpenTextFile("c:outputfile.txt", 8, True) ' 8 = append, use CreateTextFile to overwrite
tStream.WriteLine "writing stuff to file"
tStream.Close ' Close file when done
You'd open the file like above, and in place of the Wscript.Echo commands you'd use tStream.WriteLine commands (tStream is a variable name, if you dim and use something else use that instead). Then you can just do a "wscript yourscript.vbs" in the logon script batch file to run the thing and update the file.

Wow, Dave, I think I hit this page a half dozen times before it suddenly dawned on me that babe in the flip pic is HOT! :hb :boobies:  :T
LOL Pr@, I've had the same thing happen to me when I do vbscript stuff. I just tell Norton to allow that script to execute and then it doesn't complain anymore.
I have some pics from last weekend's semi formal to gum up the works!! As I mentioned here before, I was the DJ, and everyone had a blast. I think I have a permanent gig now! :-y
Here I am doing my thing - Heather took this shot:
http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/sf/dj.jpg
Here's what the setup looked like from the dance floor. I took this shot after setting up before people showed up. The speakers are early 80s vintage Cerwin Vegas - these suckers are heavy, and I've replaced the woofers in them but they still belt out the tunes!
http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/sf/system.jpg
Here's the Sony STR-AV1070 receiver pulling amp duties. The old beast just keeps on ticking. If I need more juice for a larger venue I can always use the Peavey CS 800 I power my SVS sub with.
http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/sf/gear1.jpg
Here's the rest of the equipment, from top to bottom: an ancient Lafayette mixer (I bought it used--it probably dates back to the 70s, it still works perfectly). Next down is a Sony MXD-D3 CD/MD deck, and then a JVC XL-M701 CD changer.
http://kpatz.home.attbi.com/sf/gear2.jpg
And last but not least, a shot of the happy couple! :smootch:

Hey guys. Finished painting my barn outbuilding today, whew. WARM here. Got a bit of sweating done last 2 days.
Tomorrow, I'm starting a tile job on my daughter's bathroom. The flooring was the non-adhesive kind, and it pulled away from the bathtub, ruined of course. I bought a tile saw new off ebay a while back, ready to give this a go. It's large tiles, made to look like brownish natural stone. I think it will be a nice touch in there. I'd like to continue my renewing process over the summer months, either for my own enjoyment, or to maybe move on sometime to a bigger house. We'll see...
Kevin, nice DJ shots! You and Heather look happy there. :)
