View Full Version : MLP and the MC-1
Hello,
Is there anyone runing MLP through their MC-1? I was told Lexicon is working on coming up with an adaptor plug or adaptor unit that will run into the 3 expanson ports on the back panel.
Has anyone heard of this or any other method?
Thanks, Rob

Rob, I think the answer is no. I personally am not.
It was said that was what that panel was for from the get go. But I personally have not heard. I would guess Philip Brendes would know if it's been talked about.

Hello again,
I know its been over a month since the last post, but Im thinking of getting a new dvd player (Pioneer DV-38A) and am wondering if it will be compatable with the adaptor unit (if there is one)?
If there is anyone who can help with some info I would appreciate it. Im really looking forward to DVD-A
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, perhaps Jeremy will respond to this. Of course, that all depends on what information he can release, I am sure-
If you didn't know, Jeremy is with Lexicon. :)

Rob,
While 24/96 digital signals are exactly what the 3 expansion ports on the MC-1 were designed for, as of yet there are no DVD-Audio or SACD players that output the high resolution digital signal. This includes the Pioneer DV-38A.
I am confident that sooner or later the industry will come around and we will see digital outputs on these players capable of outputting 5.1 channels of 24/96 digitally. At that time, Lexicon will address how to best accomodate MC-1 owners (and DC-2 owners, since it is upgradable) so that they can take full advantage of the performance of these new multichannel music formats.

There isn't going to be one. Those posts are over 2 years old. Players won't be allowed to output digitally unless it's encrypted, then it will be output through firewire most likely. I was under the impression that those expansion ports on the MC-1 were for multiple coax digital inputs to pass hi-rez multichannel audio, but that was assuming that they wouldn't be copy-protected. Lexicon missed the mark a little bit on that one, but the MC-8 and MC-12 will most likely be upgraded with an IEEE-1394 (firewire) interface in the next year or so.
I'm not saying that the MC-1 absolutely won't be upgraded with firewire, but I HIGHLY doubt it.
