View Full Version : Club Parasound, including HALO line

There seems to be quite some interest in the new HALO line from Parasound. Everywhere I look, those who have them love them, those who don't but are looking in the price range want them, and experts are saying good things about them.

Most recently, I'm reading a lot of good feedback on the service from Parasound. Apparently early models have already been funded by Parasound to come back to the factory for tweaking and to prevent a possible source switching problem.

Anyone around here have one of these bad boys yet? Whatcha think?

Definitely one of the attractions to the HALO processors is the extra programmable speaker outputs for up to 12 total speaker outputs. (some of the outputs are actually doubled with both RCA and XLR connectors, so I guess you could have even more than 12, but some of them would just be copies of the 12)

I just ran across a guy that's using some to drive his tactile transducers, and others for ceiling speakers to increase fly-overs.

Note: ceiling speakers were actually originally considered for THX specifications!

This sounds good to me. I'm considering the JC-1 monoblocks and another couple of amps as my big upgrade for next year, so any extra info on them would be appreciated.

David-

WOW... anyone that even considers the JC-1's is a true serious audiophile. Of course, I dream of stuff like that, but that's still way above the level that I'm at.

What I can pass on is that all the HALO amps are being hailed as being top of their class, without exception. The JC-1 just goes above and beyond most anything else out there. A common theme I've found from reviews I've read on the HALO amps is a need for break-in. Most reviewers I've read have said something along the line of "I connected the amps, and immediately thought they sounded nice... after several hours of listening, I was shocked to hear the performance improvement, and now I have to give them five stars"

For more info, there's some good news and pictures on Parasound's public relations website:

Chris, that's how I first came to hear about these. Stereophile, or was it The Absolute Sound (?) had a review of them and just gushed about their performance. Oh also, notice I said "considering" up there. :) It'll all depend on how much the Orcas Island house rents out this summer and also on any end-of-year bonus I get from work. Keeping my fingers crossed. . . .

Jariten, I think the Parasound Halo line is retailing for $600-$6,000 each depending on the pieces. The most expensive will be the C1 processor at $6K, C2 processor at $4k, and the J1 monoblock amp. (not sure cost)

For resellers, there is one guy I know of that's become pretty active on forums. Contact Brent Huskins at huskins@charter.net and tell him I sent you over.

Chris

MSRP on the JC-1 monoblocks is $6,000 US for a pair. Jariten, do be careful that Parasound will recognize the warranty buying over the 'net. Chris, is this guy a recognized (by Parasound :)) re-seller?

Ah, yes... thanks for reminding me David. This is becoming increasingly more and more important, as A/V companies are choosing NOT to honor warranties if you don't buy from an "authorized dealer"

This guy is listed under Media Design in Texas... he's just the only one I know of that deals with people over the net. Might be more.

For HALO authorized dealers, check out:

:D

Thanks for your input !
My AVC-2500 (currently for sale in the pawn section) I bought from AVI Electronics.Never had to use the warranty.

I had the unit shipped to them for the Bass Management upgrade and full check. No Problems at all with it...
I also have the HCA-2205A which I slightly modified following John Curl's info on another forum...and replaced caps with Black Gates...so the warranty is gone on that....but I doubt it will fail...
I did remove all the crappy connectors they used inside...so the HCA will live with me for a while...it's really a nice piece...

I will contact the Person in Texas as soon as possible.
Thanks Again !

I'll just get the Halo C-1 ...not the amps....I don't have the space...!!!
I just purchased a used Proceed HPA-2 amp for 400$ ...so I'll use that for the rear speakers...
my living room is crammed !!!

so looking into FPTV with a Sony VPL 12HT projector...

Would you believe there isn't a single authorized dealer in Houston?!?!?!?!?!?!? Grrrr. If I want to see/hear a Parasound product, I've got to drive to Spring, TX which is about 2 hours or more away.

It's most likely worth the drive ^_^;;

I haven't heard back from Mr Huskins yet....

I hope something moves.....or maybe we should do a power buy ?
do a massive order of C-1's

yes?

Tony, I'm not going to be in a position to buy until late in the calendar year - at best. :? Then it'll be for amps and not the pre/pro. Sorry.

David, don't worry !!!!
I just got a mail from Brent Huskins....
Starting the proceedings now ^_^V

>BD~~~~~~~~~~~

My new surrounds should be here at the same time...
then the projector....

o_O

Major upgrade time!

On the Parasound side...
I was having a little trouble last night with my rear right surround...
found out that a pin on the coontrol of the AMP channel in the HCA was slightly corroded and would turn off the output of the amp...
I HATE CONNECTORS !
we have a lot of issues with connectors in Asia..especially highly humid areas...
corrosion is NOT your friend.
so I cleaned the surface of the pins and applied stabilant...

We have lift-off ! re-calibrated the AVC and now it's beautiful again...
I need to check the HPA-2 I bought on Saturday...for connectors and such...

Humidity is bad....

Lots of people upgrading to the C-1...
Anyone in the continental U.S. selling their old AVC2500 at a fair price? Most retailers are charging too much(even for used).

clm811,

This thread was just to see whether it would be good to have a club for Parasound and Halo. I don't think as many people will answer your post here as the Halo/Parasound Club, so it would probably be best if you posted there.

Regarding the 2500, if someone has one to offer, I think it best to get the 2500U. If I recall correctly, bass management and other improvements were included with this upgrade. Good luck in your search.
