That is how my daughter asked me about wind. I didn't have an answer for her. I am not a weatherman nor do I have any books on that subject. Two years of college down the drain. we should start a thread on what kids ask and how to answer. My daughter is 5 years old. Any answer would help. Thanks

Neat thread idea.
It's a high/low pressure thing. Air naturally wants to move from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure. If you fill a balloon you have created an area of high pressure (compared to the area of much lower pressure outside the balloon). When you release the balloon a "wind" is created by high pressure air quickly moving toward the area of low pressure.
Pressure differences in the atmosphere are caused by temperature differences. If memory serves I believe the rotation of the earth has some effect upon the direction of wind flow as well.

The goose's right and the earths rotation is called the Coriolis effect.

I thought it came from a house in Tennessee. :p:

The easiest way to find something lost around the house, is to buy a replacement.
Hey You! Make sure you stop by the HTguide Off-Topic section. It's FUN!!!

Siligoose that sounds like a good answer to me. I knew it had to do something with the temp. I just didn't know how. The rotation has something to do with it too. The more I get older the more I find out the less I know. Thank Siligoose, Andrew ,Rock Dog.
