Are the old men of Detroit going to do it tonight? It would be just like my Blues to loose to the cup winners again.

I know we have a lot of Canadians here. Out of curiosity, does Canadian interest in the Stanley Cup wane at all when US teams are all that is left? Does Canada have a favorite in this final?

Define canadian team? half the players on both remaining teams are canadian:) I'd say yes general interest has dropped once the leafs were knocked off cloud nine. I would have liked to see a better finish from Carolina but they have done well to get where they are.

I've followed the Wings for some time and this was sweet:) A little anti-climactic after the Colorado series but definitely sweet:) Good to see some great players at the end of their carriers hoist the cup for the fist time, did I mention it was sweet:)

I'm Canadian and it doesn't matter what team(s) are going for the cup. I'll be there. In the case of Detroit, I have been a fan of this team since the days of Gordie Howe, and as you'd expect, I was p-----ing my drawers last night with Detroit holding such a slim lead, at least until Shanahan's empty netter, then I breathed a sigh of relief. This team has a roster of players you can't help but like, starting with fellows like Stevie Yzerman, Nick Liddstrom, Federov, Brett Hull, etc.,etc. And to top it off, they have the best coach in th leage, who in my opinion is right up there with Toe Blake. Glad to see him retire in style and at the top with another cup.

I was wondering where this thread went.

How do you guys feel about Hasek? I just don't like the guy. He has no problem with taking a dive at every opportunity. If an opposing player skates anywhere near him he'll hit the deck hoping to draw a penalty. After the game he has no problem talking about all the "cheap shots" occuring on the ice...nevermind his cheap play.

That Detroit team was just phenomenal though. They deserved everything they did.

Free agent time...Joseph to Detroit? Guerin to Dallas? Holik to Toronto? What about Amonte?

And my poor Blues are going to sit back and let all these guys go to the opposition. All with Pronger out until December. Blah, blah, blah. :)

Sili-
Yeah, I have to agree with you on Hasek. I also didn't like the way he often wandered out of the net to play the puck. He also flops around too much. But the bugger delivers, doesn't he.

As far as Holik going to Toronto, if he does, look out. This is a team poised to be a top contender. They just ran out of steam against Carolina. Too many injuries to top players. The addition of someone like Holik could make a difference. And as far as Cujo goes, Toronto should pay him whatever he wants.

I think Toronto should do well if they resign Joseph...I'm not holding my breath though.

Yeah, Andrew, the Leafs' brass are not known for doing sensible things are they.

Well, heard today that Cujo may be going to Detroit. Holy Komoli. And Holik goes to the NY Rangers.
This is going to be interesting.

And the Eagle to Toronto. Hope that nasty attitude can support his bad back for another year. Who is Toronto's back-up? :)

Now Detroit has what St. Louis Blues fans refer to as the "holy trinity" of hockey players. When they played in St. Louis, Brett Hull, Brendan Shanahan, and Curtis Joseph were the most popular players in a generation. They're still fondly remembered (and followed) by local Blues fans.

Good to know the Blues are the farm team to the Red Wings. :)

Sili,
When Cujo was hurt before the playoffs, they used a young goaltender ( I forget his name ) and he did an excellent job. Cujo came back during the playoffs and he was a litle rusty. I often felt Toronto should have stuck with the youngster, but of course you have a high-paid goalie and you just gotta play him.

As for Detroit. Great roster, but the coaching is a question now. We'll just have to wait and see. It is nice, though, to see 3 ex-St Louis boys back together.

I'm hoping we have made some improvements to the Texas hockey team, it hurt not getting to the playoffs this year. Following copied from dallasstars.com :

Young the newest Star
After earning a huge free-agency victory Wednesday by signing Boston winger Bill Guerin to a five-year contract, the Stars got even more dangerous on the wing Friday by signing former St. Louis Blue Scott Young to a two-year deal. Young, 34, had a 40-goal season in 2000-01 for the Blues while playing on the same line with current Stars center Pierre Turgeon.
