Seeing that E is finished, Pr@ is almost finished (again) and Clive is coming on strong, I just had to post a few pics of our progress (or lack thereof) on Cinemeek, too.

In #4 note the excellent view of the master closet mess and temporary DVD rack. Jen was going "I can't believe you're showing THAT picture".

I think they want to see a movie.Travis, the big black one (110 lbs.) doesn't really like the theater room, but Cosmo will occasionally come in and watch movies with us.
Pr@, Gloss black, or mahogany stained trim (haven't decided on that yet) with deep burgundy walls and ceiling. There will be a strip of pleated burgundy fabric running from about 8" off the floor up to about 46" from the floor that'll be capped on top and bottom and run all the way around the room. The top cap will act as a small shelf to hold drink glasses (this fabric will be a good cover for any diffusers or absorptive panels). The door for the equipment will be glass (deep bronze tint) with wood frame. The entry door is a mahogany French door with matching sidelights.

Sounds very elegent! The gloss black would be stronger then a flat paint but watch out for reflections

The gloss black would be stronger then a flat paint but watch out for reflections :cry:I'm kinda leaning towards the mahogany stain as that way the trim would match the French door and sidelights. But the black would look way cool IMHO, and also would be faster as I could just repaint the existing trim and not have to replace it all so that it could be stained. Decisions, decisions.

Spent part of the weekend working on finishing the closet-side up. Got everything built (excluding doors) and finished filling/sanding. It's ready for me to prime and paint. The cabinet located farthest away is the equipment rack. Above the component area is more storage.

That'd be Mr. Deek to you, buddy! :p:
Pr@, I wish. DeWalt makes GOOD stuff. Right now that little sander and my new double-bevel compound miter saw are DeWalts. Here's my new toy:
http://www.dewalt.com//PC_Graphics/Photos/DEWALT/TOOLS/LARGE/7/DW706%_2.jpg
It's a good complement to my radial-arm saw - especially for 6 5/8" molding that the radial won't handle.

No play lately Burke. :( This weekend ought to be good though. Rainy and cold - no outside activities. Lot's of time to tape and float sheetrock.

Finally. Got to do some work on Cinemeek yesterday. I decided on a modification that is similar to one that I put in the theater room at the old house - an overhead media rack that will hold my albums and DVDs. Not sure what to do about the CDs yet as I'm running out of room. What you see here is the sheetrock has been cut out above the RPTV cavity and equipment closet areas and the 2"x12" shelf for the albums going in. The DVDs will go under the albums - you can see the smaller shelf risers for the upper DVD shelf below the 2"x12". Considering there will be 500-600 albums sitting on this shelf, it HAD to be coupled directly to the studs!
01) My able-bodied assistant (Aaron) slaving away (http://webpages.charter.net/djm97/media_02s.jpg)
02) Wide shot of wall. We've done enough for today - the pizza's here. (http://webpages.charter.net/djm97/media_05s.jpg)
One added benifit: there won't be nearly as much taping/floating/texturing to do. :)

Tex, that's a great idea for a media rack. Think of all that floor space it saves. Floor space is a real problem for me with my growing dvd collection, so I just may follow your idea through.

Thanks George. This worked out really well in our old house for the albums so I thought I'd expand it as I'm in a smaller room now.

Hadn't done much on the room what with the new equipment arriving (and having to test it :)) and then going on vacation for a week. But last night saw a bit of progress. I got the DVD portion of the media rack roughed-in:

Now that I've had a bit of time to play with the new toys, I mananged to get some trim work in on Cinemeek yesterday. Nothing worth a photo yet, but maybe tonight.

Got the DVD portion of the media cabinet trimmed out last night. Will try to finish the album section above it tonight or tomorrow night. When that's complete, then the (cough, spit) fun starts. Filling and sanding - YUCK.

Great job Meek. how are you attaching the back boards?

Thanks guys!
Eduardo, the backers are glued (carpenter's glue) and nailed to studs with #3 finishing nails. I had to put a nailer on one end of each opening to support the backer boards. Used a 2"x2" cut-to-length for that.
Didn't get anything done last night. Wound up going out with friends for a steak dinner. Yummy! Won't get much done tonight either, as it's my daughter's Spring drill team/dance recital. Saturday though. . . .
