View Full Version : Pat's Area
This is a rough drawing of the space that I am going to dedicate to my theater.

I am toying with the idea of building a wall on the top left part of the room.
Leaving an opening 20" wide to put components through and maybe a 28-30" opening to get back there and use it as software storage.
Something like this:

The ceiling height is 7'9" except where the air duct runs. That is 6'10"
What do you think?
All input appreciated :)

wow..great space to work with! If I had that much room I'd be tempted to step the screen up and create a false wall to inset my TV and compnents ito..then walk behind to service.
The software closet sounds great..eliminates that feeling of clutter..I've never liked havin all my movies and cd's out to see..

Great area Pat! So many possibilities! As your ideas progress, show us a more detailed drawing with furniture marks, speaker marks, components, subs, etc...
Susan, you could always mail your movies to me. I wouldn't be ashamed of them, lol.

Thanks Susan.
No need for a false wall...I am picking up a CRT FPTV on Saturday :B
Will do Lex.
Hoping Jon has something to say about the acoustic properties :)

A little update.
Here is a shot before I got started.

I have made a little progress but not as much as I had hoped too.
Got the wall framed up.

The ceiling is Kodak 18% grey, took my grey card to Menards and had them color match it :)
Need to get some drywall up for the equipment and media storage room divider.
Here is what I am going to hang from the ceiling when I am done making drywall dust.

It is a Sony 1272q projector :B
Here is where I am currently.

I have temporarily set up the PJ so I can get it set for the image size and then I can measure and mark the mounting point on my ceiling.
Man I love the image this thing produces.

If I had that kind of space to work with I don't know where I'd end up... may art deco or something.Anyway, looks like you are off to an excellent start with the Sony FP. I have heard good things about that particular model. Like Susan, I like the idea of the extra storage room to keep the equipment and software out of sight.

Thanks George!
I am soo ready to be done with this room and just sit down a watch a movie.

Well, it's looking great so far Pat. Simple, yet functional. I am also glad you marked "front" on the front of that trunk, otherwise, not sure if I would have known that was the front of the projector, lol. :)
So, what happens this weekend on the project?
