Whoa, good news here, guys. Our friend Hap-E pointed this one out to me. This is a new DLP PJ from Optoma, using the popular Mustang HD2 chip with native 720p 16:9 resolution. The difference here is the estimated retail price of $5,999, which is $4,000-$7,000 less than any other Mustang projector on the market today, including the popular DWIN and Sim2 models among others. Some pre-release info found on other sites:

Could this be the next Chris D home theater projector? Let's see!

Except for the new Immersive Inc. Virtuoso HT720 which is similarly priced. You should check this out first (BIG thread on it at AVS in the $5K + PJ forum). It is pretty much universally being hailed as fully equal to the Marantz S2, except brighter and half the price. It is a modified version of the PJ that is also being sold as a NexGen (the actual OEM) and as the Studio Experience 50HD.
And AVS is doing a powerbuy right now, so if you are really considering FP soon, you might want to jump on it.

Well it's about time the HD 2 chip dlps started retailing at a decent price. But this news is a few weeks too late for me. I have the NEC HT1000 dlp. It has the HD2 dmd, but is native 4:3. But believe me, once you set it up on a 16:9 screen you totally forget it's a 4:3 PJ.

We installed an Infocus 7200 w/the Mustang chip at a customer's house with a 133-inch screen (IOW, BIG screen!) It looked wonderful. But it's a 10K projector list price. It's nice to see the prices start to drop.
Studio Experience has the new Premier 50HD which uses the Mustang HD2 chip and a Faroudja DCDi. It also lists at $10K.

Brandon- You're absolutely right. Both the new Optoma and the Immersive look fantastic, for much, much less price than the other Mustang units. I see sales of the others hurting very shortly.

I think these new projectors reflect the price point that 1280X720P DLP will need to be at, given the pressure from below from the likes of the Sony HS10, and once things like Sony's SXRD, and rumored similar products from JVC and Sanyo hit the market in the 10-15K area.
I'll be curious what the reviews are like on the Optoma, the Immersive HT720 is getting some very favorable word of mouth.
It's interesting times we live in.
Regards,
Jon
