So what's your pet peeves?
I really hate those plush toliet seats that won't stay up by themselves due to the cusion on top...only a women would design something like that
I'm anal about changing the toilet rolls so that they roll over the top not out from the bottom
Seeing Wal-Mart et al. use a regular DVD player set on 4:3 mode to play movies on their widescreen TV's....
People driving too slow on the highways..and usually in the wrong lane.
Kids with 4 cyl japanese cars covered in stickers and those annoying mufflers thinking they're so cool...don't they realize how pathetic those sound? I actually saw a guy driving a sprint with a fin on the back, stickers all over it and a loud whinny muffler trying to spin his wheels at the stop light driving
so what grates on your nerves?

Great thread Andrew, I have a list of about 200 peeves but I'll spare you the gory details... 8O
My peeve of the moment right now is when people don't pack things properly for shipping, as now I'm going to have to perform surgery on the 400-disc megachanger I just got on Ebay to remove styrofoam peanuts from the mechanism.
I agree with all your peeves, especially driving-related ones. As they say, you don't learn to swear until you've learned to drive. :)
Some HT-related ones for me: badly calibrated TVs, DVDs shown in 16:9 mode on a 4:3 set, or vice versa (Best Buy is notorious for this, as they tend to show the same thing on all their TVs, both 4:3 and 16:9), pan & scan-only DVDs, and anything by Bose.
Another peeve of mine is cars that put out more bass than my SVS at home! And straight-pipe Harleys, those things are obnoxious and should be ticketed. After all, if my car were that loud I'd be ticketed.
Many many more to come... 8O

Whiners about trivial things? LOL.
Actually, Andrew, your sounding like an old man talkinga bout the kid's cars. lol.
But let's see.
1. Auto systems infringing on my sound space with rap/bass so loud, sometimes even hearing profanities.
2. Pokey a$$ people in the fast lane and stupid drivers in general.
3. Old cars with the toxic smell that about chokes you. Get a catallytic converer folks!
4. People that throw their milk cartons and bisquit wrappers, and beer cans, out in the ditch? Including construction workers and red necks.
5. Unflushed urinels. Why the hell should I have to flush both before and after I go? Who the hell flushes it for them at home?
6. Cable businesses claiming to be the VERY best at anything. Totally offensive! That's a judgement call, and amounts to false advertising.
I have to agree on those coushy seats, I hate those things.
7. 4 wheel drives, blocking my plain of view to traffic ahead.
8. Neighbors parking in the road!
9. The number 1 pet pieve is dealing with idiots! This includes people at work!
The number 1 most offensive pet pieve, is women driving and yacking on the freekin cell phone!!!

I'm anal about changing the toilet rolls so that they roll over the top not out from the bottom
Anal? About toilet paper? hehe. Actually not getting the rolls changed at all is a pet peeve of mine -- is putting another roll on such a monumental task? BTW -- if it rolls from the bottom instead of over the top, it is much easier to tear off with one hand without the whole roll streaming off the roller, since the paper stream "catches" on the toilet paper roll holder, and thus is "tearable" without having to reach over with another hand to hold the roll (or rewind it).
One of MY "pet peeves" is when smart, educated and otherwise literate people continually confuse "to" and "too" -- writing, for instance, "to much" when they mean "too much" or "I'm going too the store" when they mean "I'm going to the store". When I read that kind of stuff, I have to stop and re-read it and ask "what are they really trying to say here?" But I guess the "missing O"s (since "to" when it should be "too" is used a lot more than vice versa) are "recovered" when some of the same folks say "I hope my team doesn't loose the game" when they mean "lose". But don't sweat the small stuff -- god is in the details. :>)
And without being "PC" about everything, it bewilders me why, even today, some people think racist "jokes" are funny. I thought we were beyond that by now -- so many other things to get a laugh from that don't degrade others by stereotyping them.

Burke I hear you on the poor language used today. Maybe its b/c I was raised by british parents but I frequently cringe at some of the spoken languaged used by what I'd otherwise consider intelligent people.

A pet peeve of mine is other people telling me what their (or is it "there" Burke?) pet peeves are.
hee hee JUST KIDDING!
You listed many of mine already.
I can't stand someone smacking their food at the dinner table.
I don't like people that slurp their drink.
I don't like people that crunch on ice (when it's quite especially).
I don't like people cutting through our parking lot just to avoid the traffic light. (We are on a corner lot now.)
I don't like women who forget to lift the toilet lid back up when they are finished. Or is that suppose to be the other way around and a pet peeve for women?
I hope Little Johnny jokes are not racist because I like them.

Peeves:
Women putting makeup on while driving.
People talking to me during tv shows or movies, and then having nothing to say during commercials or afterwards.
Teens talking during a movie. I almost never go to the theater any more.
Taxes.
Texas Aggies.
Greg's DVD's (http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&sub=All&id=greg+stone)
Greg, you really nailed one there. This week, I am behind a girl on the highway, a 4 lane without divider, I am in the fast lane, trying to make time to work, she's holding me up. Finally, I shoot out around in the slow lane, I pass her, I look and she's leaned foward putting on eye liner or something! I thought, man on man, all it takes is drifting 3 feet to the left, and she's had a head on with someone. I couldn't believe it. But it happens every day in every city in America, and likely beyond.

I agree that women putting on makeup while driving is annoying AND dangerous. They can't possibly be paying proper attention to their driving while doing it. But as bad as that is, I've actually seen a dude in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway in Houston intently reading a newspaper folded over his steering wheel while using a cell phone and alternating between a cup of coffee and an electric razor. (And I half hoped he'd get those confused, :>) but since that might trigger an accident, the other half hoped he'd just get off the road.) I'm not exactly sure how he was steering the car!
And I also find people talking through a movie at a commercial theater pretty damned annoying, but I get pissed at them regardless of their age. And while I don't mind people making rude comments during the commercials and even chatting during the trailers, the main feature is what I've paid to see, and its soundtrack makes all the noise we need. :>)
When I went to see "Signs", during one of the more tension-filled scenes early in the movie where the dialog might make a difference in understanding what is going to be happening, a grown-up, but hardly adult-acting, married couple re-ignited a verbal fight that had obviously started long before they got to the theater. They finally left during the middle of the movie, still shouting at each other -- and the people around them applauded their departure, including one dude shouting "good riddance" and a woman yelling "please don't come back".
The theater was quiet after than except for the soundtrack, even though a number of teen-aged looking people were in the audience. (They probably would have been pelted with drink cups if they had made a peep at that point.) :>)

Amazing! Just last week I came up on a car on my way to work that was swerving across the line. I thought to myself, this early and drunk? Got closer and low and behold a girl with her visor down, applying make-up. I followed her for several miles and she was all over the road. Very dangerous indeed!
