Well not really.....

Just that his particular forum hasn't had a post or two in a while, so....

I've got some updated pics of the setup in my personal webspace on Mindspring, at http://www.mindspring.com/~kotches/my-system/nec-lt-150

Here's a few teaser images for y'all.....

First Image:
Joe Walsh and Don Felder, projected on a bed sheet....

http://www.mindspring.com/~kotches/my-system/nec-lt-150/images/joe-walsh-small.jpg

Same shot, on the Stewart Greyhawk (no tuning):

I tuned with Video Essentials last weekend, and am awaiting a copy of AVIA for another run at the color decoder, but here's what the result looked like:

The above images and a front soundstage view and several others are on my personal web space listed above.

This is an ongoing setup, and it'll be some time before its in a state I would call "complete".

Regards,

Ciao.

These pictures are still amazing to me. It shows what a great picture you can get at a reasonable price. John do you have light control. If I remember correctly this is not a dedicated HT room.

Unfortunately my company announced a 7% staff reduction so I will need to be patient and for now watch my spending. I was hopping to be able to do the FP but I will need to hold off.

John-
Things are lookin' good. Do you notice any rainbow effects ? I understand some do, some don't.
As far as image goes, there's a considerable difference between the bedsheet and the Grayhawk screen, and the VE tweaked image. What size screen are you using and how far back is the projector ?

George

Nice to get some feedback guys...

Mark,

I use roller shades on the french doors, and on the entryway from the kitchen to the HT room. I still need to build/buy some light traps to handle spill from the sides of the roller shades.

Also, I just installed a pair of hinged curtain rods, and put black curtains in front of the gear, because there are too damned many lights in my system ;)

I've been told that 2 of the 3 color bar patterns are incorrect on VE, so I'm awaiting my return of AVIA to work on the color some more.

I sent a really nice note off to Stewart, but haven't heard back from them yet.

George,

Yes....

To paraphrase a recent successful movie:
"I see rainbows. They're everywhere. Some of them don't even know they're rainbows!".... So I am definitely among the "rainbow sensitive". If I keep my head still, it's not nearly as bad.

I knew this was a potential issue, but given the relatively cheap entry to FP, I can live with them for the near future.

The screen is an 84" diagonal, 4:3 aspect ratio with Velux border (black velvet, about 3" per side) which conveniently corresponds to the "halo" produced by this projector. Viewable screen area is 67"x50", and the frame itself with borders is about 74"x57".

Viewing distance, I have to go down and measure it, it's about 9' though. The officially measured distance is 116.5" which is 9'8.5" away.

What's next?

Probably working on some more room darkening.

Likely candidates include the left side of the mantle and the ceiling between the projector and the screen. Just some inexpensive black cloth that is not permanently affixed to the ceiling will do the trick.

I'm also going to be adding one of Dave Beatty's Whisperflow enclosures, because the little beastie is noisy!

All my video wiring will be attached to the ceiling this weekend, and I have ordered a PS Audio Ultimate outlet which will also mount to the ceiling to provide power to my projector.

My speaker wiring will be cleaned up over the next week or so in an effort to make the room look a little less like an audio geek's heaven ;)

John,

How close are the website photos to the actual image you see? I really like what the screen does to the black level in FE.

Well, the cam seems to be a bit greenish in cast, but otherwise pretty good.

I've got some other ones that I've never posted to give you a greater variety of shots from FE.

Also, I can't get the camera to have a slow enough shutter speed to pick up the black level details very well.

I guess its time to put them up on the page too.
