Anyone have any information on this set yet? Can't seem to find anything on the web anywhere yet on other sites I've seen it mentioned that it's at the stores.

This is the 16X9 small widescreen set for about $2K, right? Haven't seen it around yet. The only thing really disappointing to me is that Panasonic is dropping 720P capability from widescreen sets in the future. Which means they won't work as well with HTPC DVD. 'Cest la vie.

Robbie, these are starting to show up in stores around the country- you may want to take a look around your area. I'm hearing generally good things, but with some of the usual caveats about the difficulties in disabling all the BS picture processing stuff they usally put in rear projection TV's, including SVM.

Regards,

Jon

There's a nice thread (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/uub/Forum24/HTML/007285.html) going on at HTF on this unit.

Thanks Paul,

I just don't have the time to browse all the HT Forums lately.

Interesting. Was at BB last weekend and they didn't have it yet. Saw mention of the Tosh 40" inch replacement (a 42"r) due in Sep. Maybe by that time I'll be closer to buying. That Tosh would be interesting. But also stores will be unloading "last years models" Might be the time to get one of those Tosh 40"...

I was in BB yesterday oickin up a couple DVDs and strolled back to their lackluster RPTV selection and BOOM right in the center of it all sits this nice sized 47" Panasonic widescreen but I could not tell it was an HD set because the picture was so lousy.

Well, it was the 47"Panny widescreen and after messing around in the "user" menues I came to the conclusion that an ISF calibration would be a must.

The wonderful OTA HD Demo loop Portland runs looked like 480P DVD

It's really dissappointing to go into a mass store and see such lousy looking TV images. What makes it worse is the total lack of knowlege these sales kids have. But they do have the selection to browse over anyway

The sales kids were grateful that I showed them the 9 point convergence that was slightly off but without a 64 point user converg/access to service menues this Picture is almost unwatchable untill you sit about 12' away.

Its too bad they have this front and center with chairs 5' away and a $1700 price tag claiming this is what HD looks like.........because its not
