View Full Version : C1 Controller problem

I'm using the C1 Halo controller with the Zhd HDMI switcher. Yesterday, the C1 unit began making a ticking sound. Not too loud, but sure and steady (like a ticking time bomb!). A few hours after that, the little display stopped showing an image, and the ability to use the volume control has become spotty. Turning it off and on, unplugging, etc. doesn't seem to help.
For now, it's still switching between sources and producing sound, but I'm not sure what's the matter. It's under warranty, and I plan to contact service on Monday, but thought I'd inquire here to see if anyone knows what might be the problem.

Wow, I've never heard about the ticking thing. About the other issues:
- My first C1 arrived with an inoperative screen. (like 5 years ago or whatever) I contacted Parasound about it, sent it back, and they just found that the cable for the screen had come disconnected.
- My C1 front selection knob does stop working after the unit has been on for a while. I'm assuming that as it heats up, it's been affecting the knob. I'm about to send it in for servicing for it. Hasn't really been an issue, though, because I really just use the remote anyway.
Oh, and welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound!

A ticking sound usually indicates a problem with the switching power supply.
Reseating the power supply connector might be worth a try...

Re: reseating the power supply connector, how would I do this?

Turn off the C1.
Disconnect the power cord.
Remove chassis cover.
Remove and reinsert connector(s) between pc boards. Do all of them and give yourself some peace of mind.
Insure connectors are FULLY seated!
Reassemble and reinstall.
Try it out and see if it fixed anything.
Did anyone can help me with a photo to find out where is this power harmness? I have the same problem and i am confused.
Thanks

Ah, well... be very careful, if you're not sure where components are inside the C1. In general, messing with internal components is frowned upon for manufacturer warranties unless they give a thumbs up.
I'd hate to have any of our members damage their gear playing with internals.
