New Classic Review on Home Theater Spot

Not much bad to say as usual. A few things I found interesting: testing done with a Denon 3910, a favorite of Home Theater Spot, and many members here in our Club. He didn't note a big difference in performance after a break-in period. Break-in has been noticeable for Halo; I haven't really heard of the New Classic in that regard.

Reviewer pointed out that it would be more handy to have specific selectable buttons for sound processing modes. I hadn't really thought of this before, but now that you mention it, that would be handy so I don't have to cycle through modes just with the up and down buttons.

do i understand the reviewer correctly: the 7100 does not output an OSD to assist in system set up? That seems rough given the apparent size of the units screen.

Hi, tmwalsh, welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound! :banana: I don't have a 7100 myself, so I'd have to read the manual to see. You can do the same thing on Parasound's website http://www.parasound.com

Perhaps 7100 owners could assist as well.

It does have OSD (I have the 7100). Believe it or not, after just a few times I stopped using the OSD and now just use the small screen on the 7100 as it is very easy to navigate to the usual areas I want.

:agree: The small screen on my C2 is more than sufficient for every day tasks. The only time I need the OSD is when I'm doing the automatic distance and level calibratation.

Psychdoc, how do you like the 7100? I read another post somewhere that HT through it is awesome, while music is good, not great. It sure seems to have any and everything one could want.

The 7100 is all that I could ever want. Anything more would probably mean something soley on paper (don't get me wrong, bragging rights are fun too). Now when it comes to speakers, its time to upgrade!

Yes the 7100 is great. Movie sound in incredible but music is lacking a bit. Its good but not great. Movies are incredible man. Its a much more powerfull movie sound if that makes sence? J.H.

Its just not as powerful as nice sounding for some odd reason as it is with movies. I mean movies are unbelievable. I can't believe how awesome it sounds with movies. With music such as DTS cds and DVD-AUDIO its just not as crisp sounding. Its hard to explain except to say that with music its just missing something that I can't put my finger on. Also i can't get real deep bass from my sub with DVD-AUDIO and that seems to be most of the problem I have with it. Now I may have hooked something up wrong with the 6 audio cables I just havent checked but i will soon because bass is lacking in DVD-AUDIO. J.H.

You do realize that the bass in most music simply does not go as far down in the frequency range as it does for Home Theater.

If I remember correctly, most music rarely goes lower than 60hz and for the most part, bass in music weighs in at the 70-80hz frequency level.

Could this be the difference you are hearing?

My numbers may be slightly off, but the message is correct. Maybe someone a wee-bit more knowledgable than I can convey the accurate frequency numbers, if in fact I am a bit off.

No with my Denon receiver I had really awesome deep bass but now its not as deep. I must have something mixed up I will check soon. J.H.

When using my old NAD receiver and Denon DVD player, I found that the decoding method had a lot to do with the bass output. "Stereo" mode worked best for me. It's as if using the other decoding formats (when playing CD's) made the bass anemic. I also couldn't get sound to come out of my subwoofer when using the Denon's digital out, but it may have been the NAD's fault and not the Denon's. My point is that stuff can be finnicky, and you might need to play around with settings a bit to find that good bass reproduction.
