No worries, there is a proccess to delist the site from questionable to unquestionable. I'm not going to be bothered with going through the process. Kinda like, I'm looking at other sites at work, can you unblock this one for me? ;)

I figured, it was probably a BIG spider. And that really isn't safe! :)

We had trees down in the area, power outtages from the winds and rain that came through yesterday, but nothing like what those people in New Orleans and Miss. are enduring.

My Mother's power was out from yesterday afternoon until this morning. I tried to get her to come up here, but she insisted she was fine and stayed home.

Gas went to 3.09 a gallon today. I understand it's expected to go higher tomorrow. I don't know. People were lined up today like they were just worried about having gas at any price.

It was flip filler Gordon, and yes, it was funny I thought. If you failed to see the humor in it, well, maybe your being to serious about it. regardless, I take it back, and will not use that style humor to you in the future- In fact, no humor at all, we'll just be serious to one another, perhaps that's best.

I DO hope you're saying this with "tongue in cheek", Doug!

One man's joke is another man's groaner. I know! I laugh at ALL of my jokes, and am pleasantly surprised when someone else laughs too. I go for quantity, since I enjoy my own jokes, and from time to time I throw out a quality one that everyone can laugh about.

The cool thing is that I can laugh at my own jokes AND at myself, although it is much more fun when you have someone else laughing.

So, seriously, I hope you weren't being serious about always being serious! :T

Didn't you know Gordon, I am the old lady at the end of the month, as of yesterday I was anyway. Today, I'm a new woman since it's the 1st! :)

Well, it is true sometimes you don't know who to joke with, and how far to go. I guess I was just exadurating that fact more than anything in my rebuttal, it was sort of like a Saturday Night Live s[poof at reality. Flip filler has to be at somebody's expense, even if it's at Brooke Burke's or Carmen Electra's. It just happened that time it was Gordon's turn. Then the flip filler fillee was flung dung in his face for something that meant nothing to begin with. It was just a friendly poke at a recent TTP event, the red light photoshoot scam. As you can plainly see, you'll get no straight answer from me. I'm as slippery as a Republican at the Democratic National Convention, or a Democrat at the Republican National Convention. (No one can say I favored one area of political rebuttal over the other)

No taz not me any more! ;) Only every once in a while when I have Duty and I have to do bed checks at 0100. :D It is a kinder More Gental Marine Corps!

Waking Up the Marines a Lesson in History:

Old Method: Sgt Kicks in Door, Throws trash cans, Marines, any thing that he can get his hands on. Makes a ton of noise and yells a lot!

Last Years Method: Sgt KNOCKS on the door and ask if he can be let in to wake up the Marines. Speaking in a calm voice.

This Years Method: Sgt sends out a text message to all his Marines cell phones, and sends them an email just in case thier cell phones are not on! And he goes NO were near the baracks.

Some Morning humor!

This explains why the Air Force enlisted personel are so much smarter than all the other forces!

Navy: Sailor gets woke up out of the rack at 0600 by a bunch of bells and whistles. Bumps his head on the rack above him. Fights with the other 4 sailors that are sleeping in the same 6 feet of space that he is in. Rushes to the chow hall after a shower and shave with cold boat water. Chomps down some chow, runs to his battle station. The Capt comes over the 1MC and gives a big speach....ended with Give em hell Sailors!

Army: Pvt. Gets out of the rack in the baracks. Puts on his boots. Shaves and showers at the baracks. Gets some chow at the chow hall. Goes to a formation. The Capt comes out and gives a speach ....followed by give em hell!

Marines: Pvt gets up off the dirt in a hole some place he has no idea where in the world he is at. No need to put on his boots cause he had to sleep with them on. Shaves with his knife cause there is no shaving gear. And he has to dry shave cause the only water that they have is for drinking. No chow cause they only have enough chow for dinner. No formation cause they are at the front lines. The Capt walks back and forth giving a big speech ended with.....give em hell marines!

Air Force: Airmen gets a call on his phone at his appartment out in town. Gets up, takes a long bubble bath. Gets dressed in a fresh dry cleaned uniform. Checks his email at home before getting into his car to drive to base. Stops at Starbucks for a coffee on his way to work. Shows up 2 hours after the initial call to work. Grabs some tools, walks out to the plane and goes to work. 20 minutes later a young Capt walks out to the jet. The Airmen gives the CAPT a good speech followed by.......GIVE EM HELL SIR!

Just some morning armed forces humor for you!

No Lex I am at a training command. All the Marines have never been to a "Fleet Unit" And they are for the most part very young Marines. So the CO has issued an order that all students will be in thier rooms by 2400 on school days. And 0100 on weekends. So the Duty every night at 0100 or 0200 has to go and pick several rooms at random and check and make sure that the Marines that are in that room are there! That is all.

There is a old KC-130 story that has been going around for years. Not even sure if it is true but here it is.

Marines are doing HALO ops. The flight engineer ask the pilot if he minds if he jumps out with the troops. The pilot says sure. A few hours later the plane is landing and the pilot tells the flight mechanic who is sitting in the Engineers seat, "hey go get the FE time to land" The mech looked at the pilot and says, "Sir you told him he could jump....the Gunny jumped!" Don't know if it is true or not but it is a story that has been told for years.

I understood the fraction thang, I just didn't see a decimal, so was clueless to how much gas was. Given that the police and fire services didn't have any to use, I thought it quite possible that Gas was Stratospheric as $587.90.

At $5.879 that's just slightly more than what we pay here now  ;)

Gregor: I remember $0.39 per liter and that was only a few years ago. We had some serious gas wars going on.

I worked out the gas prices today. $1.16 per litre for regular. @ 3.78541 l to 1 US Gallon that's $4.39 and using an exchange rate of $.84 that works out to US$3.69 per gallon.

I need premium in my little go fast car. :B So I pay a lot more, FYI gas is always cheaper in the evenings around here. I mentioned that fact to some people and they were amazed that I figured out the 'system' :??

So new car talk is dead now. I got the appraisal for our rental up in Fort McMurray. It was a bit lower than what I had expected, well only by $4,000. It's not going to make a big difference, but still every $4,000 counts!

Shane: Flip pic? ;)

Snap: Thanks for the millitary funnies.

I believe it's the "Imperial" sytem. But the gallons are measured differently, and so are pints.

The metric system is easier to use, everything is based on 10.

However, I remember a story years back that when building the Airbus, instead of using metric, they used inches, feet, and yards, as that was more accurate. :? Don't know if it's an urban legand or not.

I think only England and the US are left using 'imperial' measurements.

Really? I usually find we tend to pay equivelant or less for electronics/computer stuff after you figure exchange. Our CD's are also cheaper here usually. We tend to pay between $10-$15 Canadian for new CD's in store. After exchange that's quite the deal compared to you guys :B

And if Paul's math's right :p: at $3.69US/gallon, that compares quite well with the almost $6US prices in Atlanta Shane posted! I think Doug posted some low ~$3 prices earlier though. Keeping in mind we pay a LOT more fule taxes than you yanks, that isn't bad either.

Hard to say Snap, I suppose we are acclimatized to it? :scratchhead: We (I) do buy a lot of stuff from the States or out of province to save some money or taxes, however you do have to pay attention to the Customs duties applied to country of origin or item type.

If it's not the gas, it's the natural gas, or taxes. I suppose as Canadians, we just put up with it knowing that this is life, deal with it or move on.... ;)

My perspective may be more poignant than actual fact, maybe my brother Pauly can shed a more Analytic view as to how we deal with it.

what is the exchange rate now? I know that when I was in Halifax in 1998 the rate was crazy. And it was very expensive for use to buy stuff there. Who knows maybe they raised all the rates cause the "yanks" were in town. It was the most US forces to be in Canada since WWII. I think that is what the papers said. It was a cool training mission. We had a BUNCH of canadians on the boat with us. I will tell you this, they had the COOLEST people (Halifax), and the nicest people there that I have EVER MET! Just down right cool to be honest.

Snap: Well I'm not Bing, but I'll take a stab. How can we survive? I honestly don't know how some people are doing it. It has been very tough the past year as gas and disiel cost have taken off. For regular people working, they are taking a big hit. I'm lucky in a way as I've got a business that allows me to deduct my fuel expenses. But I still don't like paying that much for gas!

As for getting AV gear, the strength of the Canadian dollar against the US green back is amazing. We went from a $0.64 dollar to a $0.84 in less than 2 years! That is virtualy unheard of. So in the past buying from the US has been cost prohibative, now it's like getting a huge discount. Everything is always cheaper in the US, and now it's even better.

Here's a 5 year chart of the Canadian Dollar and how much it has gained.

Most times Computer equipment is comparable or even cheaper in Canada. General electronics can be a different matter depending on the brand name and application. I know when I was looking at a Denon receiver, it was cheaper to buy from the states and have it shipped here, than to buy it locally at A&B sound.

Digital cameras, are slightly cheaper in the states, however most companies like Canon or Nikon will not honor a out of country warranty, so the lower cost may not be a benefit if service is required.

New Cars, are generally the same or equal. The government has that locked up so that taxes and required inspections level the playing field. Selection not withstanding.

Clothing can be cheaper in the states, again depending on what brand name you are buying. However with my typical local retailers giving me a 20%-30% discount, it makes better sense to supoort the local industries. I know that food costs are the same if not more in the States. A typical meal out here could be around $10 per person, I think its the same in the US, so if exchange is applied, it could cost more. Although I'm speculating here.

Good to hear you enjoyed the Canadians :T

The Canuck dollar is doing very well right now and favors US purchases at 1.18152 Cdn dollars to equal a US buck.

1 cubic centimeter is equal to one milliliter

1000 ml = 1 liter

1 gram is 1 gram

1000 grams in a Kilogram

Water freezes at 0C and boils at or near 100C, depending on water purity and atmospheric pressure.

Water happens to have a specific gravity of 1 gram per cubic centimeter (actually 0.99823 grams/cubic centimeter at 1 atm pressure, close enough), Coincidence? :W

Snap: In 1998 the rate was crazy good for you! I remember it cost me $1.50 Canadian to get $1 US. I was in Vegas at the end of '98. You can't make it out in the chart, but end fo 98 beginning of 99, you can see the exchange at about $0.675.

That chart is for banks. For normal people like us, we pay a few points higher when buying and take a few points off if we are selling.

It just seemed more expensive, but I bet you probably got some good deals. Let me give you an example. You go to McD's for a Big Mac Meal, that's fries and a coke. It will cost you C$5.00 back in '98. Well it would have actually cost you only US$3.33, I'm using a $0.66 exchange rate.

Now the same meal would cost you US$4.20, using a $0.84 exchange rate.

Oh and we are all nice people in Canada. :T

There are some things that are cheaper in Canada, and especially on the west coast. CD's are the top of my list, as well as DVD's. We have cut throat competition here, so that's why it's better to buy those here than in the US. You can pay CDN$14.00 for a CD or you can pay US$15-$20 for a CD. Same with DVDs.

Computer parts, hands down, is cheaper in Canada. Especially in around where Jason and I live. It is crazy pricing, as Jason has demonstrated. There are a lot of computer stores that get OEM type pricing and just pass it on to the consumers.

I think that cars are cheaper in the US. Applicance, AV gear, clothing, and some food items as well.

I totally forgot about booze! It is so much cheaper down in the US!

Time difference is a pretty complicated formula. Okay you have a pen and paper handy? Good, so what time do you have right now? Write that down.

Okay. So right above that write down 'California' right above the time. Now here's the tricky part, the time that you wrote down is now incorrect. Right? cause it's a couple of minutes later, so write down that time now and cross out the old time. Got it? Good.

Okay so right next to 'California' write down Canada and then write down British Columbia. Okay got that?

Now look to the left, where you wrote down the time. Did you write it on the left hand side? What no! Man we'll have to start all over.

Okay, On the left hand side of your paper, write down the time. Above the time write down 'California' okay? Good

Now right next to it, on the right, write down 'British Columbia, Canada'.

Now right under it write down the time right now...and that's how you do the conversion to Canada time in BC. If you need it for the other provinces, you're on your own! :)

"write your name here" etc so guess what she wrote on the box....?

Hit some stores and brought my younger sister out to eat who is heading off to college next weekend. Went to a great restaurant called Cha Cha Cha's. It's an ethnic blend of Latin and Indian food. Sounds odd, but oh man is it good! It's been my favorite eatery in that area of Mass for the past couple years. Left behind $100+ at Barnes & Noble. Damn it that place gets me everytime. Picked up a couple cookbooks, some kitplane magazines, another book/cd package to help me with my desire to learn Japanese, and season 2 of Macgyver! Also grabbed some tasty 70% chocolate from the Whole foods store next door.

Put together my Carada screen. It has a couple wrinkles, but they are slowly smoothing out now that the screen is tensioned. Nice quality! Have to hang it and play with it tomorrow though, I have 5hrs to sleep before heading to work... :java:

That is a pretty big honor Nick.
Man back home after doing orbits in the clouds and rain for far to long. :(

Hey correct me if I am wrong, but did not the US officially adopt metric in the 70s and then shelve it?

Got some reading to catch up on I'll be back when I am up to date, plus we are doing the preplanning for the game this weekend. 8x) :blah: :blah: :blah: 8x) 8x) ;b> :^x :^x :boozer: :boozer:

In the 1970's there was a major effort to increase the use of the metric system, and Congress passed the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 to speed this process along. However, American consumers generally rejected the use of metric units for highway distances, weather reports, and other common measurements, so little was accomplished except for the encouragement of faster metric conversion in various scientific and technical fields.

In 1988, Congress passed the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act, which designates "the metric system of measurement as the preferred system of weights and measures for United States trade and commerce." Among many other things, the act requires federal agencies to use metric measurements in nearly all of their activities, although there are still exceptions allowing traditional units to be used in documents intended for consumers. The real purpose of the act was to improve the competitiveness of American industry in international markets by encouraging industries to design, produce, and sell products in metric units.

The debate over metric conversion continues. Although metric units have become more familiar and more widely used, the United States remains a "soft metric" country. (The phrase "soft metric" refers to designations like "1 pint (473 mL)" in which metric equivalents are simply tagged onto traditional measurements.)

Proponents of the metric system in the U.S. often claim that "the United States, Liberia, and Burma (or Myanmar) are the only countries that have not adopted the metric system." This statement is not correct with respect to the U.S., and probably it isn't correct with respect to Liberia and Burma, either. The U.S. adopted the metric system in 1866. What the U.S. has failed to do is to restrict or prohibit the use of traditional units in areas touching the ordinary citizen: construction, real estate transactions, retail trade, and education. The U.S. has not made the crucial transition from "soft metric" to "hard metric", so that "1 pint (473 mL)" becomes "500 mL (1.057 pint)", with the traditional equivalent fading into smaller type sizes and finally disappearing.

No problemo Snap, most Canadians would submit to you that the NFL kicks the CFLs ass. It just our game has some likable quirks over the NFL as well ;)

Time outs are not as much as a strategic play in the CFL, most of our games are played right to the wire, unless it's a blow out, even then they play to the end as if there is a chance to win.

The CFL game can be more of an aerial show because with the 3 downs, you have to pass to gain yardage. Of course this also can lead to a lot of punting because the 1st down is harder to achieve.

Our ball is a lot fatter, making it harder to throw.

Our Playing field is wider and longer, making the constant Blitz a risky play.

Most times our Grey Cup final is played in the bitter cold snow feilds of November (unless the final is played in BC or Toronto) Mind you Green Bay and Buffalo can be just as cold in January ;)

Now like any good Canadian, I like my CFL, but, I'm no ostrich with my head in the sand. I like both.... But the NFL has a slight edge to me.

I like the CFL for the aerial assault, and the down to wire games, however I hate how if a offensive team can not mount a drive, the game is nothing but back and forth kicking. And whats with the "No Yards" penalty? They kick the ball to the receiver, all run like hell down to the IR and have to stop 10 yards from him or incur a penalty? Those 2 things Bore me about the CFL on top of the low talent pool.

While NFL boring maybe true, there are great games as well just as the CFL. I find I like the NFL for the talent of the players. They are so much faster and stronger then the CFL. The defensive play seems so much more aggressive and integral to the game than the CFL game. The sheer power and speed of those guys leave the CFL looking like a training camp at times.

And since the Riders Suck, I don't watch the CFL (much) but love watching the NFL in Hi-Def :T

Snap, as much as I love golf, I have to admit, never has one single sporting action been so over hyped, over analyzed and marketing talked than the golf swing.

The golf swing it's self takes all of 3-4 seconds to execute, yet the resources put forth in monitoring that single event would have cured cancer by now. Not to mention all the latest rounds of club design guaranteeing a better golf shot, when they are mainly designed to separate you from your money.

Sure there have been good advancements in equipment design, however for the most part, it's mostly marketing driven for the White collared masses.

Then all the resources poured in to better technique, there is the arms, here, here, here. Head there, there, there...... Sure fundamentals are important, however most golfers would just play a better game if they didn't think about everything and focused on just a few simple things such as rhythm and timing.

Ever throw a wad of paper towards a basket and be surprised how close you get with out even thinking about the mechanics of it? That's the purity Golf should have, with out all the other noise the golf industry has built up.

And Golf on TV does put me to sleep, it's one of the best TV sedatives around

Many sports can test the character of man, golf just happens to be self serving character test because the white ball takes on epic proportions to encompass a players universe for 4 hours. There is no physical pain, or athleticism required to play the game. A person doesn't have to reach deep down inside to pull out the last bit of energy or will to win in golf. Golf is in the mind only, just like many other sports that also require muscles, ability, endurance and heart.

I used to play 3-5 times a week. Then I went to Flight Enineer Training, and that dropped it down to 1-2 times a week. Got married and that dropped to .5-1 times a week. Had a baby, and my golf dropped to 1-2 times a month. Opened up a business and my golf has dropped to 1 month, give or take 1.

I figure once I get older.....and more wise...... I can get some funny color pants, and play once a week. Oh yeah I need my "old man" start up kit as well. IE the goofy hat with the Pane Stewart socks! :T

While NFL boring maybe true, there are great games as well just as the CFL. I find I like the NFL for the talent of the players. They are so much faster and stronger then the CFL. The defensive play seems so much more aggressive and integral to the game than the CFL game. The sheer power and speed of those guys leave the CFL looking like a training camp at times
At times is being generous. ALL the time to me. I've seen quite a bit of the CFL and at best it's minor league compared to the NFL. There is a reason that CFL stars fail in the NFL. Doug Flutie and Rocket Ismail are 2 good examples. 2 stars in the CFL who failed like no tomorrow on the NFL. One thing I can appreciate about the CFL is they play in the weather. Football isn't meant to be played indoors. This is the main reason why dome teams suck. I have no respect for them.

if you guys love the CFL, You might enjoy the arena league. It's fun but it's not football.

It's good to see Iacoca doing Chrysler commercials. I thought they had a falling out. I have alot of respect for that guy.

OK CFL vs NFL.... Honestly I'm not a big football fan so neither really holds a candle to hockey for me but I have to say the CFL is more entertaining football played with low-caliber players. The NFL is super high caliber players but a comparitively boring game. I agree with Greg, if we had NFL calibre players playing CFL football or CFL style football being played int the NFL with their players, it would be a much better sport IMO. Of course CFL players are lower calibre though. I mean seriously, if you're a good enough player, where are you going to go? The CFL where they make the same salary as me or the NFL where the lowest paid player makes my salary in a few games? I think it's pretty obvious where the better players go and why but IMO the structure of the CFL game makes for more entertainment even if they have less talent.

Sorry Nick, baseball makes me :Z like no tomorrow! I don't even find playing it very exciting. It's like sports for choma patients

Mostly agree with Bing on Golf too. I never really got in to it though (I already have enough expensive and time consuming hobbies) At least the atmosphere and scenery in golf is pleasing though :B But yeah, if you can be overweight, generally out of shape and easily drink a few beers while still playing pretty well.... Not a sport

It's unbelievable watching CNN 8O

Bing don't watch the "Communist News Network" :nono: MSNBC is more down the middle. You have on one corner Fox, and the other you have CNN. MSNBC seems to be more down the middle as far as fair reporting. I can not stand CNN. Seems to me that they just report stupid stuff. They are more biased than Fox! 8O

No more TV for us for a while....to much bashing going on. There was one guy who finally got it right on MSNBC. When he had the guts to actually remind people how the government in this Nation works! Starts at the City, then County, then State, and finally the Federal. To say that the Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Air Force did not get there fast enough is silly. :nonod: The state of LA is who dropped the ball. They KNEW that a CAT 4 or Higher was going to cause the levies to flood! It is in thier report in 2000, 2003, and this year! 8O

Then the city tells every one to go to the dome, and then does not send 1 freeking dude there! 8O Some local and state people need to loose thier jobs!.

Well any ways....momma says I have to come to bed....so night night all!

Then picked up corn on the cob and some lobster tails. Will probably grill up some tiger prawns while I'm at it and some veg (grilled sweet peppers are nice :yesnod: )

For Sunday nights game I picked up some Fred Flinstone size pork side ribs and there's a package of back ribs in the fridge and some chicken breast....so grilled chicken breast, ribs and nachos are the order of that day.

It's a canivorous weekend this weekend http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/images/smilies/chomp.gif

I think most Winnipeggers have as much green in them as they do Blue and Gold ;)

The ADD in me simply does not allow me to watch NFL  . Big flashy high calibre players who play a game that moves with the speed and efficiency of golf. Yeah , no real love for the NFL here. I don't have my life to waste watching tv anyway so I have to pick and choose the few things I'm willing to sit down and watch.

Sure the NFL is better, so what? I mean who cares....what does it prove anyway? Like most things in the States they definitely have mo' money....but that doesn't instantly make it better....in many ways (like money usually does) it simply and eventually corrupts the thing you loved about it. The one thing about the CFL is it's played with heart. Sure it's low caliber but it's got heart.....Hell pee-wee and amateur sports are played with more heart sometimes because they WANT to be there and not for some fat-cat paycheque. I love watching ameteur and lower caliber sports most times because the mistakes add to the drama.

Players that simply try to play their best....I have a full appreciation and admiration of that aspect of any game or sport.

Hopefully we never lose that aspect of our game like so many other sports already have.

Should be a good last big meal of summer before school, work and chaos ensues for the next 6-8 months.

jimmyp58
09-03-2005, 06:47 AM
You are dead-on Gord...most pro sports in the U.S. are played without heart. Sure, there are some that play the game the way it was/is meant to be played (e.g., Brett Favre) but most athletes simply want their paycheck and if their team has enough talent to make it to the playoffs, then and only then do you really see the true games. I see this a lot in pro basketball hence the reason college basketball is so much fun. With so many teams making the playoffs, all you need to do is watch the last few weeks of the season to see who is going to make the playoffs (especially if there is a tight race) then the playoffs themselves.

Busy day today as we are demo'ing the new NuForce amps at a couple of different venues.

Have a great day guys...

Damn, alot of people need to lose their jobs due to this fiasco. Some should be criminally prosecuted as well. White collar "Planners" from the Town Engineers to the Mayor of New Oreleans to the White House. I've been following reports on the BBC closely over the past few days (I don't watch or read any US or Canadian press, but I'd agree with Snap that MSNBC is the best of the three poisons) and the conditions for those people are terrible. Absolutely unacceptable.

The gouging of gasoline prices are completely out of control. Thank god I only burn ~5 gallons a week. It's $3.50/gal down the street. I'm just not seeing how market prices can increase $0.75-$1.00 in places like the Pacific Northwest. Supposedly it's going to continue to increase to $4.00/gal with Labor Day weekend. A great way for Oil companies to make a quick mint.

Bought another printer today at Walmart. My fourth printer in three years. Last on that broke was a Lexmark, so I went with HP again this time. Each of my parents and one of my sisters has this model which has proven to last atleast 3+yrs so far. It's a Printer/Scanner/Copier combo. We'll see how it goes... :|

Finally we're supposed to have a nice weekend. Going to make a couple cross countries today and tomorrow. I'm gueesing my rental fee on the 152 will be going up today given fuel prices.

Going to do some more experimentation with Ethiopian and Sudanese recipes. I've been making up some African fusion recipes that have been coming out pisser. Given the relative inexpense of ingredients for African recipes, I might have to tone down the amount of Japanese foods I eat the way prices are soaring.

Oh, here's a quick shot of the new Carada screen. I'll post some actual screen shots and what not later tonight/tomorrow. I normally only get 1 night a week off from work, but with labor day I have a "normal" 2-day weekend! :-y

Just a quick thought on the universe of football, while each one has simalarities, they are all different. And as with all team sport, individual talents will only succeed when they work with the team. Our game is based on smaller faster players with a lot more territorie to cover 110 x 56 with end zones almost twice the size. Different talent skills are needed. Different team skills are needed when your roster is only 35 players and your salary cap is 2 mill and that includes all team salaries.
Summer and fall until the end of November call me a CFL fanatic. The Monday after the Grey Cup I am wearing my Church of Monday Night Football duds and am kneeling at the football altar of the NFL. When that ends, my hockey season starts. And in June the CFL pregames are starting, so the vicious circle starts again.

Went on a 2hr flight today up to a nice Class D airport in northwest New Hampshire. Lot's of bumps from thermals, but all we had were the accompanying patchy puffy cumulus clouds so the visibility was excellent. My instructor is going to a 50th reunion for his military flight school squad (He got his ticket in 1955!) so he'll be gone from the 5th 'til the 12th. No more flying until the 13th...

So now I'm just going to kick-back until Monday night when I go back to work. Doing some cooking, studying for my written exam, probably watch a couple flicks, then I'm supposed to go on a hike Monday morning.

Got the printer/copier/scanner hooked up. It works... hopefully it will remain in that condition of positive function... :D

A great aviation story -
A few years ago, another of my flight instructor's students took the little Cessna 152 into Logan Airport, the big Class B horror-show in Boston (he used about 1/10th of the runway to land). A huge Boeing taxied up behind him when he was getting ready to leave. The captain told him "Cessna XXX, you better set your brakes, I'm advancing the power to straighten out, I don't want you to take off from a stand-still!", after all the mocking laughs and without missing a beat, the student said, "Boeing XXX, please advice your passengers to fasten their safetybelts, I'm preparing to advance throttle to 1700RPMs for my runup". Apparently the entire flightcrew of the Boeing and Ground/Tower control errupted in laughter to the point where the people were in tears. Wish I could have been there for that one...

My next flight is going to hit Manchester, New Hampshire, my first Class C airport. Hopefully a big airliner won't mistake me for a pigeon and run me over...

Have a great day boys! :T

EDIT:LOL! Great joke Taz!

I have a copier printer etc that's an HP, but I don't make that one my computer printer. It's copier, fax only, I have a separate flatbed scanner I like, and had a good printer I liked, (HP 1215 series)

I will say, last time I tried to do a fax, I never did get it to work, not sure why. I can't even recall if that was send or receive though right off.

I always felt it was a clunky piece of gear really.

The copier style is an HP Officejet d135, it wasn't cheap as I recall.

I have a HP PSC 2355v all-in-one scanner/copier/printer. Works great. I've had good luck with HP stuff. Lexmark inkjets are CRAP. I actually have a Lexmark, new in box, never been used. After the fire, when I bought my temporary PC at Best Buy, I had to take the printer to get all the rebates. The printer was supposed to be free after rebates. I got all the rebates back from Best Buy, eMachines, etc... but Lexmark, those sh*ts, refused to honor their rebate, claiming I didn't provide the information off the box that they requested. I wrote back, providing a copy of the material (since I sent them the original the first time around), showing that I had provided everything they requested, and they refused it again. So I'm out 50 bucks and have a POS printer in a box that I didn't want.

I should have smashed the printer to smithereens and then mailed it back to them with the rejection letter.

I bought another $75 unit. Some family members use the same unit (HP PSC-1410) and have had good luck with it. Decided to take a chance. HP units have lasted me the longest (a few months) over the Lexmark (a few weeks).

Yep. If the Blue doesn't get the Gold then the Green should! :T

What you said, Gord, EXCEPT that the NFL is better.

Why? For the very reasons you mentioned. Just because the guys "may" be bigger and faster, etc., it's THE GAME that they play and HOW they play it that makes the CFL GAME better.

Someone said about changing the CFL to 4 downs to make it better? HUH? If the CFL had 4 downs, the scores would be like 132 to 109, 99 to 71, etc.

We'd just walk up and down the field scoring touchdowns.

Anyway, I had to call you on that one Gord AND anyone else who like the NFL better. IMHO!!!

Hi guys...tough day at the office... ;)

What a day, really. Had a blast and learned a lot about two lines we are now carrying. I have talked a lot about the new NuForce amps in other posts so I will try to not repeat what has already been said. What I will say is that these amps are unbelievably awesome (darn it, I think I said that already!).

This is really corny but I am honestly giddy about these little giants. This technology will really take the market by a storm and while there will always be a place for a Bryston, Krell, Rotel, HALO, etc., amps, those manufacturers really need to take notice because these fellas will give them a run for their money. Much smaller, hardly get warm, don't need a dedicated circuit, WAF increases, wallet loves you, etc. Oh and perhaps an unbelievable find in all this is that you probably don't ever need to buy a sub. These amps get full range speakers so deep and lush it is indescribable!

We also spent considerable time with a tube CD player --- the JoLida JD100A. I never knew what all the fuss has been about with tube players --- until now. Wow, what a difference they make.

Hope everyone else had a great day.

Jim

Gregor, sounds like it is something that needs to corrected from the accident yet. Good to hear that the body shop will look after it, as well they should :T The Cavalier was that bad huh? Sorry you had to endure that

Actually my BIL just bought a 2004 Cavalier at a dealer Auction for his daughter. It's in great shape, has 2-3 years or warranty yet, and best of all, she really loves her car :T

Jim, those sound like very interesting amplifiers. Lots more bass extension afforded to the speakers, so much so a Sub may not be required? How is that accomplished, unless it is boosting the lower frequencies? I'll have to go read the posts for that is interesting. Nice to know you have a product that excites you, you are fortunate.

Hey Andrew :later:

So I went for a bike ride today and while I was out, I met up with another rider who was a total stranger. Morning fellas! http://mysite.verizon.net/nicholasmosher/morning.gif
This past week I've only been catching 5hrs of sleep a day. Made up for it with 12hrs last night. I feel like a freshly tuned machine!
-----
Gregor - Congrats on getting your vehicle back! Damn, 3 months seems a helluva' long time to fix a car! 8O
-----
Kevin - I have about 30hrs of recorded flight time now. Legally you need atleast 40 to go for your FAA checkride, but most people take between 50 and 60hrs. I'm guessing I'll be average at about 55hrs. I'm currently flying 3-4hrs/wk (all I can afford), so I should hopefully have it around Thanksgiving the latest.

I'm guessing you'll' have your home theater up and going with time to spare. How is the building going by the way?

A few people were singing the gasoline blues at the local car show last night. But for the most part, it was a pretty large turnout, considering gas prices. I drove the M3 out there last night.

Kevin, I've been burned on rebates like that before, saying I Sent them after the date allowed or such when I know I met all conditions. Real pisser. In fact, I HATE rebates. Just discount my merchandise in the store so I don't have to pay sales taxes on the stupid rebate, and so I know I get my discounted price! Right now, I am waiting on rebates from Linksys. Will I get them? Maybe.

I had one company once try to stiff me on a rebate. I phoned their rebates number, and what do you know, they sent me out a rebate after I beoched and complained and they sent it out QUICK.

Doug

jimmyp58

Ironic you fellas are talking about not getting rebates. Yesterday I received two notices in the mail saying my rebate requests were denied because I was missing pieces of required info. What a bunch of CRAP! EVERYTHING they requested was included, I mean everything and yet they say this or that wasn't included. This is an utter marketing scam to get people to buy (the allure of the rebate vs. a competing product without one) then to deny is to me, theft. I am with you Doug, knock the money off where it counts --- the register. They can do it as an in-store rebate and keep whatever tracking info they want as the customer can fill the info out before proceeding to the check out lane.

Sorry Bing, I wasn't trying do disagree with you re: CNN, just re-emphasizing Snap and Nick's comments :T

I tend to like HP's printers as well. I think if you stick with the bigger companies like Epson, Canon, HP etc you should be fairly safe. It's the cheaper brands like Lexmark that you have to look out for. Generally not only is their build quality and reliabilty lower but so is there print quality. Kev, I say you donate your Lexmark to a charity or something ;) Good for the soul :T As for the rebates, I'm still waiting for mine from a month ago for the Behr paint we bought.....

I believe the nasty underworld side of New Orleans, once they got guns, they saw this as an opportunity to cash in, taking everything of value they could to sell it on the black market, weather guns, gucci bags, Hilfiger, Nike, jewelry (biggie) etc... Once the military takes control, then the cash robbing days are over. So, yeah, they fought the establishment at every turn, but I can't see them fighting at the hospitals. Good grief, is there no respect for humanity left?

I played 18 today as well Snap. I played pretty cruddy on the front except for a chip in out of a deep grass bunker from greenside. I was particularly proud of that shot since I didn't even ground the club behind the ball. I just sort of dug it out in a controlled fashion, got it to the hole and boom it dropped! I even found a ball in the grass bunker as well, lol.

I did play better on the back nine after joining up with a man and his 2 sons. I had several pars then. :T

Had a strange thing happen on number 3. I wasn't finding my ball after checking the hole, a bunker, grass around it, then whala, it was sitting square on top a sprinkler head beside the green down in what amounted to 3" hole that the sprinkler popped up out of.

I did indeed break my toe this morning. Nice n' sore... n' blue. All I can do is wait for it to heal.

Spent all day at the hot rod club I'm in. One of our buildings is a huge place that use to be a chicken coup. We converted the 1st floor into eight car bays for projects, and use the top floor for our meeting room and storage spots for member's junk. We limited the membership to 40 people, but only had about 25 spots up top. So after everyone removed their stuff (a major project which included me, as I had a bunch of junk up there) a guy and I measured the whole upstairs, moved some walls/supports, and chalked out 40 equal 4'x7' areas. Then painted 'em up today. Looks like a giant parking lot, lol. Some other guys layed a whole new plywood floor beforehand which looks beautiful by our depression-era coup standards. Last year I did the same thing for our land out back, giving everyone a spot to park a project/parts vehicle. Now nobody can b*tch that they don't have a vehicle parking spot or storage area...

Up the budget? :demon:

I also played golf this week. We hit around 100 balls at the driving range. I haven't played in a good while and on top of that I was tired. After those 100 balls, my shoulders were in PAIN and on top of that my back was hurting. It's fine now but I'm definitely out of shape.

Lex
09-04-2005, 10:18 PM
100 balls is to many to hit in a row if you have not been playing. That's asking to be very sore using a lot of muscles you haven't used in a while. I'd top that out at about 25-50 balls the first time back out, or just playing 9 holes maybe.

I played 18 first time out, and was still pretty sore. But then I am nursing some different problems than most people with this thyroid situation and meds I am on. So, maybe I am not a good one to advise at all right now. I'm sore tonight after 18, especially around my knees. I do recall twisting 1 knee today on one swing.

After a while the first fellow says to the second, "If'n I was to sneak

The second fellow crooked his head sideways for a minute, scratched his

The difference in definition between "guts" and "balls"!

GUTS - is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being
assaulted by your wife with a broom, and having the guts to ask:
"Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?"

BALLS - is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling
of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on
the ass and having the balls to say,
"You're next fatty."

Thinking about it, it is strange. Life has progressed, and really what is the significance of the the same date one year later? It should just be another day in time. However I find myself thinking back to the events of the day, the day before, the day after and some how correlating time as it progresses this weekend, overlaying last year with this year.

The human mind is a strange animal indeed.

Picked up MacGyver Season 3 this morning on the way home from work.
Going to stretch, lift some weights, answer some eMails, and possibly rent "Crash" which came out today.

Try some of this as well;
4 chord Rock and Roll, 50s & 60s rock progression.
key of C = C, Am, F, G
key of G = G, Em, C, D
Use whichever suits your voice and play some Oldies.
Duke of Earl 4 strums/chord
Little Darlin' 8 strums/chord
Why do Fools fall in love 2 strums/chord
etc, etc, its fun and addictive practice. Get the lyrics of the internet and have fun. Find some oldie CDs in the clearance bin and try and play along.

Taz you went completely over my head on that one. 8O :B
"Yeah, use the the G key on the A to the D".
Right now I'm in the kindergarten stage. I know which strings/frets correspond to which notes on the page (not tabs, I decided to try the "hard" way). I can play a few songs and a but-load of nursery rhymes. I need to find a great book/DVD that is seperated into lessons that I can learn from. I'd love to have a DVD that is interactive.

Hey guys, just finished watching "Crash". Right up there with Cinderella Man as my two favorite films of the year thus far. Check it out! Amazing film.

Okay Nick go out and get Guitar for Dummies(has CD) and the DVD of the same name.
In the mean time look up the chords that I gave you in the progression. Play them in the order given strumming the number of times per chord that I gave for an example. Another is Runaround Sue which uses 8 beats to the measure. So strum 8 times per chord and change in the progression given.
You have just played the rhythm guitar part of so many oldies and many modern songs. You will still have lots of strum work and all. but being able to do progressions means that you can play rhythm guitar to many songs.
Next is positional play. One finger plays all the strings of a fret so here is C in the second position. 5th string 2/3 (finger#/fret#) 4/5, 4th string 1/2 2/3 4/5, 3rd string 1/2 3/4 4/5. Play them just like you have been learning. 1 guitar plays position C scale and one plays the C progression and you have the start of ryhthm and lead.
:)

Just found out Tasha got in to her interior design course that she wanted. (It was quite full and questionable if she was getting in) :B Then she also stayed behind to volunteer helping with the Grade 8's :T Way to go Tasha :T :T (Funny how those "obnoxious" teens manage to make you so proud of them  :D )

Also found out my Best Buy order of Pet Sounds and disc carrying-case arrived! :B

Thanks Doug :T

Sort of what I meant by that too is that it's funny how kids go from one second of being a "typical obnoxious" teen to doing stuff that makes you so happy for them and proud of them. One second you want to locck them in their room, the next you wanna give them big hugs!

Yeah, my girl at 20, well, she's still growing up. But I figure she will make it someday. At least as much as her Dad ever grew up anyway. (scary thought)

I'm always proud of her. I'd like for her to please me a little more at times.

Hey ya'll been super busy. Marines gave us a rather big holiday. Monday and Tuesday off. but I spent all of today working on my side business. A church I did some up grading, and EQ adjustments had some problems. Come to find out one of the amps that they did NOT want to upgrade went! :( Told them that the Peavey Amp was trash! ( I did not say it like that! But I talk free and open with you all!)

My Laptop is DIEING! it just has NEVER recovered from the 3 foot fall that it had a few weeks back! (Laptop case was not zipped. Picked it up, and the laptop came out!) The fan is making some terrible noises, and the stupid thing keeps heating up and shutting off! And as all the fellas know the P4 gets real HOT! Buuuuuut no have the $$$$$$$ to get another one!

Well I hope that every one had a wonderful weekend!

See ya later!

Yes I'm still on vacation. We fly back home tomorrow afternoon.

The astute among you may have noticed that my status here changed today from a Moderator to "Moderator Emeritus" denoting the fact that I've stepped down from my role here. I want to thank Doug and the rest of the staff here for providing me with a fantastic group of collegues and more importantly friends. Doug I say you change all the things to something extra cool. Like... "argu-us-Stop-Us" "Spam_killer" "Forum Defenders" Or better yet.......for all of us miltary guys go with ranks! Like Doug you can be the General! All the moderators can be officers (depending on how long they have done it determins, Col, LT, Maj etc) And then for the rest of the forum we can go Pvt, PFC, CPL, Sergeant, etc! :T And for people like Pr@ he can be a Warrent Officer!

YEAH that would be cool! :rofl
OK I need to eat something, I think that the lack of food and water has effected my limited brain power!

So who is the Sargent Major, RSM or whatever each force calls their top NCO?

Snap
09-06-2005, 07:14 PM
Taz,
The Marine Corps has 2 top enlisted ranks. Master Gunnery Sergeant and Sergeant Major. The Master Gunz stays in his MOS, and the Sergeant Major is the CO's right hand man. Both are E-9's as far as pay goes. But the Sergeant Major has a higher position. Like a Master Gunny Flight Engineer still fly's on KC-130's while the Sergeant Major is next to the Co's office and pretty much runs the whole show! Either way not some one that you want to piss off that is for sure. I would rather piss off the master Gunns than the Sergeant Major that is for sure! We have the BEST sergeant major that I have ever had in 11 years at this command. The dude is awesome! I would charge hells gates with plastic spoons if that guy asked me too!

I am starting to beg tonight to get momma to approve the funds to get my new laptop. She is very well aware of my tachtics. So progress is SLOW. I am having to regroup and come at it from another approch.

Now this is the best Blonde Joke I have read so far!
Too Funny!!!

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great
seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she
liked the experience.
"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all
the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each
other over 25 cents."
Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the
game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the
quarterback!
I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!

The Pentium "M" centrino chipsets.

Better battery performance, but I still believe they take the backseat to the P4 so long as the P4 has the same bus speed and cache.

Snap
09-07-2005, 07:33 AM
DUHHHH man it is early in the AM! What a nerd I am! :banghead:

Yeah I will agree Nick, the P4 does a lot better with video, and graphics. That is what I will be doing with it. As well as this, and other normal stuff.

Howdy folks... been busy so not much posty posty from me the past few days...

That's some laptop Snap. P4 is better for raw performance but Pentium M is more laptop friendly (power consumption, heat). Have you considered an Athlon64 in a laptop? These run cooler than P4 and have similar performance. I don't know how many laptops are out there with A64s yet.

That smart car looks neat but where do you put your groceries? Golf clubs? Dates? ;) I thought my Saturn was lacking for space.

Very few make an AMD 64 laptop. They make a mobile chip now. Not sure how good it is or how it compares to a Centrino.

I'd go the Centrino route myself..

A Flip

Been thinking about getting a Diesel version of the new Golf
http://www.nctd.com/sneakpreviews/06s-gti-1.jpg

The GTI version has 200hp but it doesn't get the 40-50mpg like the Diesel.

Right now it's just a thought going thru my head. Spending $50 a month on gas compared to $200 seems better to me

Pretty bad @&# computer. Funds are still LOW. I am issuing a "calling all cars" at my house. Starting with Back rubs, house cleaning, ladies night out, I mean I am pulling out all the stops!

E-Cards are comming, real cards are comming, flowers, I am even going to see about hardwood floors. Maybe I can sneek the laptop in with the hardwood floor purchase.

Tell me what you think. "No honey the hardwoods costed 2 grand more than we thought. I had to get supplies, glue, knee pads, trim. It takes a lot to install these floors. Plus we saved 2 grand by me installing them instead of Lowes!" "Oh the laptop...well they had a sale, and I figured with the money that you were willing to spend on having some one install the floors, I paid myself and got the laptop!"

How long do you think I will be sleeping out side in my Marine Corps Tent? It does not get as cold as Canada but in a few months it is going to definatly to cold for my "pampered" butt to sleep out side!

Morning :later:

I recently found out Acer is using AMD chips in their laptops but still none of the "big-boys" that I'd want to buy from ie: Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu. Also, unless you're solely using your laptop as a desktop replacement AND need major processing power for processor intensive work like 3D rendering, animation and graphics work... IMO you'll be better off with the mobile Centrino, the new mobile AMD or the AMD 64. The 64 is especially powerful vs power consumption. Otherwise the "mobile" chips offer like 95% of the performance with WAY lower power consumption and heat. Now where's the prblem there...? :)

Funny on the wifi Taz
