Two lighter sockets in the Nissan X-Trail, not one lighter element to be found. I think they cheated me ..... :scratchhead:

What the heck would McGuiver do Bing? you know he'd need that lighter at some point, What, fabricate one out of wire?

Bing Fung
08-23-2005, 11:44 AM
Well, I think McGuiver could fashion one out of wire, or he would short the electical system as you did, but use the sparks for the igniter. Damn, it was you they based the show and character on wasn't it...? ;)

My BMW is funny. It has an actual lighter, and even has a icon of a cigarette smoking on it

Lex
08-23-2005, 11:48 AM
Most of my BMWs even came with smokers included. Whoops, that was me. :( Well at least I am clean now, for 1 year and 4 months. :T

The show could have been based on me, that's true!

Kevin, well the "cigar lighter" as they call it was on it's on fuse called CIGAR, yes, that is right. The blown fuse was actually called DECOR, or LIGHTS or some such. Once I replaced that fuse, the lights and radio worked again. It is possible that the metal housing behind the lighter (remember this is a factory setup) It had a metal round housing that fit over the lighter assembly to act as a heat shield I am sure. This plate once the backing screw disc came loose, was flopping around loose. It is possible that this got up against a Radio hot connection or something similar and blew the fuse, so it actually had nothing to do with the cigar lighter blowing. But something else could have happened to it. That's the nature of a car when you start holding a metal object loosely around letting it short out on first one thing then another, lol.

Lex
08-23-2005, 11:55 AM
The metal assembly actually acted 2 fold.

1. It held the entire lighter assembly in place once the retaining nut was screwed on. (That's what came loose to begin with and allowed the whole thing to pull through the front, loose from the retaining ring and nut that is when I saw something short out.)

2. It acted as a heat shield.

Morning everybody :later:

Trev, that's tough on the shiny Vette  How's that saying go? Something about best intentions or best laid plans or something...? I'm sure the experts will be able to fix her up for you though, either with a cut polish or some sort of treatment, worst case scenario a new clear coat... Might cost you a bit but you'll get her back in top condition :T
As for your pics, what's wrong with them?!?! :scratchhead: I agree though, if there's aspects your not happy with, post over in Photo's and let the experts give ya some advice :T Just remember, we're always our own worst critics ;) Short of that, I agree with Bing, if you no longer want your camera, any of us would be more than happy to care for it for ya!

Speaking of which, I got a nice new tripod from my parents as one of my gifts :T

Nice grills Taz, those are the brands that would be on my short list when I get to buying a new one :T :yesnod:

Hair still standing up Doug? I used to smoke myself, quit mostly about 5 years ago, permantly about 3 years ago. I have no desire to have another! Vancouver's apparently contemplating passing a new law outlawing smoking in outside public areas like restaurant/bar patios too. I'm all for it :yesnod: Still love my scotch though Taz!

But with teenagers and young men looking after my home when I am not here. It certainly looks different than the current Caddys (many of which I think are ugly) :tomato: I think it qualifies as a "sleeper". Looks like a plain jane midsize sedan (in your pic at least), but packs quite a punch!

Speaking of Saturns, I saw a Relay minivan on the road today. It's not bad looking.

Firstly, AMEN to the no smoking in a public place rule that we have in our city!

Secondly, a bid ATTA-BOY :T to those of you who managed to quit smoking. I saw my parents and a few friends go through it, and it can be hell.

Hey, I think you guys deserve another 3 ATTA-BOYS - :T :T :T

I've never smoked and think I am very lucky for that.

My Mom tells me that I used to hide the ash trays when I was around 4 years old. I hated smoking even way back then.

When I was a co-owner of a drapery, paint, carpet, renovation, etc. business, I was on the way to a a carpeting installation job with my helper, who knew I had a no-smoking policy in the store and in the van. He pulled out a cigarette and I told him if you light it up, it's gone and so will the rest of your cigarettes. So, the little bu**er lit one up. Before he knew it, the cigarette in his mouth AND the pack of cigarettes on the dashboard were out the window. He was ticked, but he never smoked in the van again! And yes, we are still friends.

I was able to order a Mac Knife MSK 65 6.6" Santoku for Christine today.

http://www.macknife.ca/images/knives/pmsk65.gif

Talking to the rep, he asked how I had heard of Mac Knifes. I said that we have looked at all the other main brands and the Mac gets the best reviews, and seeing most chefs using the Mac Santoku, we had to try one. He then mentioned he deals directly with The Food Network's Michel Smith of the shows "Chef at Large" & "Chef at Home" as well as Rob Rainford of "Licence to Grill" He supplies them with their knifes, and the feedback is the Santoku is their favorite. He even said he is quite often an extra at the end of the show eating the food Rob makes. We had a great conversation, and I got a good price on the Knife with a roll sharpener that is said to sharpen the Santoku at the steep angles it requires. It was pretty cool talking with him 8)

I know Chris is going to love this unit :T

Howdy fellas! Been keeping busy myself, but don't know what I've really done. :)

Bing: Nice pictures, all of them. I like the Cinelli cork tape. The best bar tape around, I got some on my other bike as a customer came in and said that's not what he wanted on his bike. You see, the mechanic 'accidentally' put the cork tape when the customer only wanted the cheapo black bar tape. He wouldn't accept the cork tape, and we had to retape. So there's this roll of used cork tape that was going to waste. :) Well I step in to save the day, why don't I put it on my bike!

That's a Cady STS! I drove one of those a couple of times, the inlaws car. Very nice and has power to boot.

I was just pricing out a Dodge Magnum R/T AWD, loaded it comes out to about $46,000 or so. I don't think I put in the GPS/Navigation option.

I've got some spare time before my next meeting.

I can't stand smokers. I can also smell cig smoke from other cars in my car. I still see people smoking, flicking ashes outside the car and what gets me even more is the buts that people just flick out the window.

Trev: Sorry to here about your wax job.

Oh and I heard today that the French press is picking on Lance, again! Now I'm glad he retired and doesn't have to deal with that crap anymore.

I'm down with you on that one, Paul.

What I hate even more is when I see someone flick a butt on the ground, step on it to put it out, when there is a proper butt disposal unit on the wall within 10 feet or less.

AND, all the butts on the ground around the designated smoking areas outside of buildings which also have numerous butt cans.

I don't hate the smokers so much as some of their attitudes. Go ahead and smoke but keep it away from me and don't filthy-up our surroundings. Dang, even a smoker should take some pride in his surroundings.

I know a couple of smokers who are trying to quit and a couple of others who aren't and they all make sure they don't smoke near me, and keep their ashtrays away from me, and even make sure that they smoke long before they get in my car, which I have to say is very nice of them.

Sure, I'd love it if they could all quit smoking, but at least they have SOME consideration for the rest of us.

Dang, it's nice to have a soapbox handy for times like this! :B

He sure likes fueling the flames doesn't he ;)

It's not the most out there thing he's ever done but it would SEVERELY confuse and contradict what's already been established in the current education system. The year is already too short to complete most of what the teachers set out to accomplish in the curriculum. What would happen is that you have to now teach one body of thought and then say "now in this corner..." and give the 180 presentation (which is pretty much polar opposite to the first). I don't think it's such a grand idea.
Why doesn't he put funding at a higher list of priorities and straighten that out first before concerning himself with weighty issues that he probably has a cursory understanding of anyway

The salary cap has raised its head and now teams are starting to find out that they did not keep their payroll low enough to allow for injuries etc and are now starting to move people to make for even more competion. Everyone has seen what playing games with a salary cap has done to the 49ers and no one wants to do that to their team. Heatly signed for less money so it gives Ottawa a little more room. Problem is they designed the Sens around Hossa.

Here is a good one, a friend has a Telus account and has been having problems. He phoned telus, got put in voice mail jail and lost it. I tried another coat of the #5 polish that is supposed to remove

a couple of coats would maybe to the trick.
However that is not the case.
It is too scratched beyond repair.
I am going to have to take it to the bodyshop,

I'm going against the preverbial grain here and agreeing with the Pres.

Ht_addict, welcome back. I'm holding out for a Blu Ray/HD DVD recorder myself. Based on what I've seen they will have a firewire input so I can record HD stuff to HD-DVD or Blu Ray whichever I get. Both are coming with recorders. I might buy an HD DVD player for my main player and then get a recorder in Blu Ray so I can be covered for both formats. I know many will say screw the format war especially since they are going HDMI only for HD but I don't care. I learned not to bet with Sony given they have a poor track record but there are quite a few discs I'd like that will be Blu Ray so I'll go both.

I would jump on the deal that Azeke posted but I don't wish to get involved with DIrectv right now and their current HD recorder has some major hardware issues(hdmi out crapping out etc). I'm going to wait until their network drives(400gb for the main one) and local HD become available. I still might not jump because my cable company is pretty competitive.

Right now I'm getting Phone with all the goodies, Internet with 4mb down and digital cable for $100. I pay a little extra for HD and the DVR but still I'm saving about $45 a month over what I was paying when I had Directv and SWBell(DSL and phone) plus my download speed has increased from 768 down to 4900 down. BIG difference.

It's Hump Day! :T

Here's to everyone having a super-duper day! :B

I'm toying with the idea of picking up a loveseat for my home theater. I'll likely move my couch to the back riser and put the new loveseat in it's place. That means I'd be selling off the theater seats on my back riser. Here's where I'm looking at seats from:

I think you guys know that besides my Next Level gig, I also work for our local phone company. This is a pic taken by a foreman and tech that arrived on the scene from customer calls stating their service was knocked out. They later found out from a local train operator that the deer tried to jump over the train --- and failed. It's hind legs hit the upper part of the train and was propelled upward and landed on the utility pole. OUCH!

Hey, you never know, they have to put warning labels on everything nowadays, because there are people out there stupid enough to use things other than "clean tap water"... :duh: I lost all hope for humanity when they had to add warning labels to irons that say "do not iron clothes while wearing them!" 8O

Hey Sun-E! Hump Day! :yeah: Speaking of which, anyone seen Eduardo lately? He was always the "Hump Day" announcer!

Trev, hopefully the body shop will be able to help you out with your paint job. I guess that's one advantage I have in driving an old s**tbox... I don't care if it gets scratched! :E Speaking of which, I forgot to grab the stereo faceplate when I headed out the door this morning, so I had no tunes in the car driving to work. I got to listen to all the squeaks and rattles that accumulate over 8 years of driving.

yep and so does the gas gauge as it registers for a car getting all of 8mp(i)g.
Only ever had 1 owner and as a good thing he is totaly anal about doing everything better then the book says. It is just coming up on 60,000m and still has the original rubber on the original rims ( they were only on the car from the factory to the dealers garage and custom (for the day) 5 spoke chrome steel cragers with Micky Thompsons were put on. And that is what he is still running. And some unholy ground thumping drive inn cruising cam shaft. It also has the slickest modern audio system that you will never see. All custom without altering anything original. The door panels were replaced when new speakers were put in (same colour and year from a sebring) and he kept the original. Still has the original battery, spare paperwork etc. This is going to be pricey, I think.
So if I buy old I will be driving this truck(Ram1500 SLT Larimie 4X4 Quad cab long box) for a few more years.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Andrew left Rotel. Rotel's pre/pro's while excellent, don't quite have the bang/buck ratio of brands like Sherwood or Outlaw. I think these two companies are the way to go when it comes to newer pre/pros on a budget.

Ordering my Carada screen and an HDMI cable tomorrow. That will leave seating as the only thing I need to complete my apartment/home theater. It's all coming together... :)

EDIT: Bummer on the paintjob Trevor. So long as you didn't gouge down into the color coat a 2 or 3 stage buff job with some coarser compounds should smooth it right out.

Lots of choices now that Mazda has their new Miata out, Pontiac has their Solstice out and the Saturn Sky is coming soon.

All are around $20k with most of the options you want. Mazda's have a better reliability ranking so it makes the choice easier if you go that route.

Another possibility of course would be the much forgotten Honda S2000 if you go used.

Ordered an HDMI cable and a Screen today!
Carada 1:1.78 84" Criterion w/High Contrast Gray
I can't wait to get this!

Now my HT attention turns towards seating. I'll be ready to purchase towards the end of September. I need three recliners or chairs/ottomans and I'm capping my spending at $500 a unit ($1500 total). I'm looking at all options, including some DIY packages. This will be the last componenet of the HT until HD-DVD/Blu-Ray and the PS3 generation of consoles arrive.

I've really been eyeing an S2000. They were brandy-new when I use to be a grease-monkey in high school, so I don't have the best of memory regarding a test-drive. I've seen plenty of them though. I definetly need something bigger than a Miata! The Miatas I drove featured a giant camel hump in the roof, aka my head, along with scrunched shoulders, crammed feet, and general displeasure... Not big on Fords, so the mustangs are out. Another unit on my list is a 98-ish LS1 Camaro convertible. I'd love a C5-Vert, but I still want to buy a little Cessna next year, so the price range for a vert has been knocked down a notch. Considering an aircooled Dune Buggy too. I dunno, I'm all over the board on what I think I want. Won't be getting anything until next spring/summer anyways. Flight lessons are killing my play money... 8O

Off to make some Dashi and Miso Soup.

Hey Nick, what was the clincher on the grey screen? I know you were in a bit of a conundrum with it and the 1.0 gain.

Also, make sure you test drive a new Miata as they were re-designed this year with apparently a roomier cabin though I'm not sure how much of that room is height vs width/length though. The S2000's are quite nice but as I'm sure you know, not a lot of low end grunt. Honda reliable though :T

Edit: They also apparently handle like a som'bitch too :B

I'm here for another 5 minutes or so!
Just finished cooking my low-cal "Chex-Mix" and a big pot of Miso Soup.

Had an order mix-up with some textbooks I ordered for future flight training and got two of one, but none of another. Waiting to hear back from the store I purchased them from. Working 11p-11a this week... almost done... :java:

Jason - I'll post more in the projector forum once everything comes in and I have it set-up, but the big clincher for the 0.8 vs the 1.0 gain were the blacks and resultant contrast. Color accuracy and white brilliance definetly suffer some, but I believe it's a fair trade-off. The 1.0 doesn't seem to yield a believeable picture during dark scenes such as the stars against the night sky, or shadows in bright scenes. I can't afford a 3-chip DLP PJ, so LCD will have to do. DLP simply bothers me too much. But oh man is 84" from 8' a cool experience...

I really don't know what I'm going to get for a ragtop next year. I suppose my ever thinking mind will render a winner by the time I have cash in hand. Still have a few more items/toys to pick up this year before I even begin saving (HT chairs, new laptop, and uber-nice aviation headset). I really don't want to make payments on a car if I'll be making payments on a plane, but I'll have to check out some of the Miatas again too I guess.

Hitting the hay, I've got 7hrs to sleep. Have a good one boys!

I don't like that new Audi! But I'm sure somebody will buy it.

The new 'waterfall grill' is a signature piece for Audi and VW. I not sold on the new grill style, but I like the rest of the A3, A4, and now A6 styling. Oh and don't forget the S4. :) Plus the guy selling the older S4 is now very open to offers as nobody is buying.

I remember my test drive of the very first Miata's, that was a lot of fun. I compared that to a CRX Si right after and I loved the handling and the power of the Miata. Granted it would be a bit on the small side.

Hey, I've been doing a bunch of walking since the start of this month! I'm feeling a bit more energetic and I'm doing better at watching my diet. I've 'fallen' off a couple of times, but I'm totally committed to getting into better shape.

I've got my wireless keyboard and mouse setup now. Sometime the keys or the reciever doesn't connect, I'll have to figure that one out. And the new configuration of the Home, Delete, end, keys will be another adjustment. It's amazing how conditioned I've become to just reach up and hit a the end key, but now something else happens. :)

Kevin P

I'll have to agree with Shane. The fact is I pointed the seller to a local VW site that also provides a place for Audi's as well. Lots of good comments, but no serious buyers as yet.

I don't want to be bothered with budgeting for replacing a turbo or 2, as this is a biturbo. I have some other go fast stuff I want to do to my car first! I think a set of sway bars has my name on them, then those wheels. I'm a bit leary of buying new wheels right now. Fall and winter are around the corner, and although we don't get snow, we do get rain and cooler temps. Summer tires don't work too well in cool wet weather. So I'll stick to my stock wheels this winter and look to upgrade next spring. Plus sway bars are interrnal and nobody can see the effects, just me and my passangers will feel less body roll.

Kevin: I am looking at getting an S4 as a future daily driver, just not right now. I have different priorities for my money. :B So race ya to an S4!

No snow? I'm living on the wrong coast!

A friend of mine has a 2000 S4 with the twin turbo V6. He loves it and it's a gorgeous car. I'm seeing him this weekend (helping him prewire his new house) so I'm hoping I'll be able to take a spin in it. :driver:

Like you Paul, my money is currently going toward something a bit bigger than a car... like the house and HT! But someday I hope to have an Audi in my driveway... maybe not a S4, but maybe a A3 or A4.

Anybody know anything about plumbing in here? We have a problem where if I have the garden hose on outside low, it's very nosiy and makes almost a shrill noise inside the house. If I have it on full it's fine. Also if I have the hose on full and the upstairs main shower, it does it as well.... :scratchhead: Anyone know what it might be and/or how to fix it? It's quiet with anything else running including all the connected sinks/showers etc on the same line.....? Just those two situations......

I've had that happen before Jason. It's time to rotate the water in your pipes with a neighbor.

The other thing you can do is inject concrete into the line. This should quiten it down.

Actually, it could be a main pressure reduction valve going bad causing the source of your water noise. Most every house has one, so the pressure from the larger 6" water pipe doesn't shoot our toilets into the air like a geiser. lol.

It could also just be temperature related between the pipes, water coming in maybe? I don't know that I ever figured mine out.

Lex

Kevin P
08-26-2005, 07:35 AM
That's what I was thinking, a pressure reduction valve, or a blending valve (if you have one). Years ago, at my parent's house, an upstairs toilet being flushed would cause the whole house to howl. It took ages to find the problem, it turned out to be a faulty blending valve (a valve that mixes hot & cold water to the toilet to reduce condensation on the tank).

I've come to the conclusion pets are a huge mis-allocation of funds. I spent 60 bucks at the pet store on food and a few little toys for Kiwi yesterday. My Gosh what a racket if you buy them decent food like Science Diet.

If I ever have anymore, they won't be larger than Kimberly's little Kiwi. About 2 pounds. She's so fun too, hoping up in your lap. The other night I was cat napping on the sofa, so she comes up on my back walking on me, rooting around at my head, it was funny. I'd hate for a large dog to have been doing that, lol. I was having fun with her, and she was having fun with me, it was funny.

Did I mention I have hot house prospects now? As I understand it, an offer could happen on the weekend or first of week from one looker, who coincidentally is loosing his house to the state, so he's definitely a prospect since they are difficult to live in once flattened.

2nd looker coming today at 11:00.

I told my agent on the phone last night it was going to take a close offer to get my house. I'm not coming off my price much. I told him I didn't think I had to, with the activity I am having, the neighborhood getting better with the cleanup of our isor.

Didn't sleep well at all last night, dunno why :scratchhead:

Jason, it could also be due to calcium build up or some sort of restriction in the line. I had something simular with my downstairs bathroom. I removed the valve only to find chunks of solder in the line restricting the flow.

Morning Big E (and everybody else :B ) :later:

Thanks for the plumbing suggestions guys. I figure it's likely something along the lines of certain water pressures triguring a ressonance in the pipes or perhaps turbulence. I considered the pressure reduction valve going but then wouldn't it make the noise on all the faucets etc....? I just need to install an in-ground sprinkler system on the other tap (that's extremely inconveniently located  and never used) then, no more problem

I'm kinda bummed at the moment. My usual routine is as I'm driving in, I put back the sunroof. Well today, it didn't want to move. I locked in the closed position, but it will still go to the vent position. I checked it out and it seems to slide back, but makes an awful grinding noise, like something is rubbing. I'm hoping it's not going to cost too much to fix. I may just live with the vent position since that works fine.

So I just might buy a new car.

I just saw someone post that the Saab 92x Aero can be had for about Cdn$30,000. That's about $10k discount! This is like the Subaru WRX, but with better sound dampaning, improved ride and handling, plus it has leather and the Saab safety seats. There is only one catch, there's always a catch, there are no 5 speeds left. :( Only automatics. Well, I don't find that to be a deal breaker.

I have been seriously considering an automatic for my next car, yes I'm bailing on the tried and true manuals are the only way to drive group. Please don't roast me. :) But for what I've been doing lately, I find the 5sp is getting to be a chore and I don't think traffic is going to be getting any better in the next 5 to 10 years, or ever.

I would love to get a sequential shifting system. I know the M3 has their sequential, and the new M5 has the monster 500 hp mated to a 7sp sequential. So It's only a matter of time for Audi have the S4 with the DSG. If I do get an older S4, I'm thinking of a used or off lease V8 S4, I would be seriously looking at an automatic.

If I ever want the fun of a manual, I'll just buy a small fun car and drive it at an autocross.

Paul Wu

Yeah, the price is cheaper than the WRX! I may just have a look see and test drive. I thought the employee pricing was only for the base 92x.

Oh and there is a new 92x Aero for 2006 that has a bit more power. That's probably why they are clearing out the '05 92x Aero's.

The A3's will be getting the DSG I think this winter? I've been dying to test drive one, I may do that when I drop my car for some servicing. One of those dealer recall things that I have to take care of, which reminds me I need to set an appointment or it will never get done.

Howdy folks...

Sorry to hear about the sunroof Paul. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix. Is it a power sunroof, or a manual one?

I like driving a stick too, but there are times when an automatic is nice. I've never driven a sequential, so I can't form an opinion on them. I'm sure they aren't as much fun as a stick though. :)

I too would wait on the A3 until it has quattro... around here in snow country you need it. Certainly they'll have it by the time I'm in the market for a new car (still years off, unless I inherit or win a ton of money or get sick of getting stuck in snowdrifts in my Saturn). I've never looked at Saabs, but I might when the time comes. Right now my favorite choices for my next car are Audi followed by BMW.

Andrew, you sold your Rotel stuff already? That was fast... you should have told the delivery guy that the next box isn't nearly as heavy as the one he delivered today. I know, I have the same boxes here at work. :)

They're starting to sand at the house, and they should be priming by early next week!

Kev the 92x is the only Saab I'd likely buy, it's the only one based off a Subaru  Too much GM DNA in the rest of their models! :E  Sounds good on the house :T Do we get any updated pics soon....? ;)

Paul Wu
08-26-2005, 03:07 PM
Jason: I like the sound of them not selling well! Plus at full list, they were pretty expensive compared to the Subaru. The '06 is still based on the WRX as far as I know. I think the A3 quattro will be a while, but they will come.

I've wanted one since they were announced, espically since they nixed the hatchback model when they redesigned the 93. There's the new combisport 93 coming out this winter, but that's a bit more like a wagon than a hatch. Plus pricing is creaping up. The Saabs in the US are getting a price drop, I wonder if that will happen in Canada.

The only downside is that Morey Saab/Saturn has closed their doors. Now it is only Landsdowne Saturn/Saab that is the exclusive dealer for the lowermainland. When I had my Saab, I was not impressed with the service department. The head service manager wasn't that nice, and I'm a pretty friendly guy. The other assistant manager left about a year later. So even if free service, you have to be aware where it is from.

Shane: SMG is consdered "POOR"? I have no first hand experience, but intend to find out in the next month or so. I plan on testing out a M3 sequential! I have heard that the DSG is much better due to the design philosophy.

Pr@t: Getting more toys!!

Bing: A Carbong fiber head! That's one way to make sure you have fiber. I'm looking for any excuse to buy something! I knew once my attention wanders from one something else comes up. Didn't I say so a few pages ago?

I've been having a great morning, getting ready for a big presentation tomorrow morning! I have an awesome client example that I am showing how we were able to save a family $1,500 a month in debt payments! I am so stoked!

Yeah Paul it looks like the '06 Subies ALL have the 2.5 litre in one form or another, the 2.0 turbo in the previous WRX (non STI) is history it seems. I would imagine that's where the power increase for the '06 92x is coming from. Hopefully the 2.5 turbo'd WRX still gets similar MPG as the 2.0 turbo did. That was one of the many reasons I was looking at it over the STI. Otherwise I might look at the regular normally aspirated 2.5 in the Sportwagon/Linear models.

Reviews that I have read of the SMG in the M3 and CSL Coupe have been stellar, It shifts much faster than any human could posible shift a manual. It also makes a better driver of you on the track as it downshifts and double clutches better than most normal and even seasoned racers can. It's much prefered over the standard 6 speed gear box. I personally would be concerned if it ever needed repairs, however if I could afford a CSL, I don't think I would have to be too worried about cost of repairs.

That said, if I could just afford a e46 M3 like Dougs, I would take the 6 speed gear box, just for reliabilty, and less "Surprize Costs" :P

:laughat:Only problem is, the program I use that generates the flip statistics will still flag that flip as a foul. :)

Oh well, no one ever looks at the foul statistics anyway! :B

Glad to hear the blood work turned out ok.

I read somewhere that SMG tends to wear out clutches quickly, since it has to slip them when crawling in traffic. So that's an expense to consider.

You know, if I raced, I'd probably get it. As you said, it's faster performance etc. However, one of the BIG reasons I'll buy a car is that it's FUN to drive. A BIG part of that for me is shifting myself :T Just IMHO I can understand the desire for an auto in heavy stop and go, bumber to bumper traffic though. Thankfully my commute in to Richmond is normally fairly steady!

Tires too as well as tuneups and service intervals, so really, common wallet folks like us really can't apply our common rationals to Exotic cars  It's an expensive proposition over all :P

I like mixing my own too, however I would love to try how the other half lives with a SMG or simular system

Nice rubber, I like the front and rear tread designations. It's not like we ever rotate bike tires.

Nice flip and knife. I like that tune as well. Three Penny Opera.

You are right, if you can afford that kind of car, you better be able to afford the repairs that come along.

The new M3/4 is just not doing it for me in that picture. I saw a new 3 series the other day and it looks much better in person.

Jason: The base may provide some easy bolt on turbo mods in the future.

Lex: Glad to hear those tests were good!

Shane: Sometimes I think some car reviewers lose a bit of touch of reality. I've noticed that I like the reporting out of the English magazines more so than the American magazines. Comparing it to a Ferrari, now I've heard problems with that paddle shifter as well.

I did up a quick reply email to the one I received and just saved it as a draft. No need to escalate these little things. I'm so glad I have some backup. I have already made a copy and highlighted the relevant information that was provided back in May.

I'll see how things go on Monday. If I get a double barrel without a simple hello and trying to work things out attitude, then I will have my bullet proof vest on and point out that if someone had read their emails it is clearly stated in bold, about what the time frame is and the end date is fixed.

Lex

I dunno, the SMG always seemed sort of uninteresting to me, just something else to tear up. For most driving, the stick does just fine, and does give me that feeling of control, and involvement in my driving. When you get good with the 6 speed, it feels really good. It's got a pretty short throw, and is capable of shifting quickly.

Boy, I have a lot of conflicting thoughts today. I got an offer on my house.

It's not an offer I'd ever accept, right down to them wanting my portable air conditioner in my garage, racks that CAT supplies go on, nor paying 375 on a home inspection for them, nor being totally at their beckon call on when they take possession. I'm surprised he didn't ask for my John Deere. I guess he would have if he'd been in my shed. Heck, they even asked for my bar stools, 2 of which have always been for CAT, one I sit on every time I build cables. Like I am going to give those away when you can't even buy more like them? I have 4 wooden standard stools, maybe 2 of those. Oh, they want my damn refridgerator! Geesh. Everyone knows the fridge is the owner's. Mine is a kitchen aid, and though the handle is messed up on it, I still paid 1600 for that thing.

I think when someone starts asking for your personal belongings, it makes the offer "personal", and I start pulling back as a gut reflex from the sale. Maybe I am not ready to give my house up, maybe I am not. Ack, I can't believe I said that.

But, the only house I really want is 339K and puts a payment on me that would be let's say TAXING compared to my poultry payment now. As I said, the M would be gone. I'd have to get something else cheaper.

With the cost of gas, and the total costs associated with the house I want, I'd be lying if I didn't say I was concerned about doing this. The house is 12-15 minutes further away from work, civilization. That's a lot of extra fuel demands.

I have to tell my realtor something today, either just refuse the offer, or tell them X dollars, no you don't get my Sonus faber Extremas, etc.. (exaduration)

I can just refuse the offer, and keep looking at houses, property and wait on the next offer. Then either take or refuse it, and go off market at any time I want, as long as I have not accepted an offer. It's draining to know what to do here. Maybe to much so given what all I've just been through. I had concerns about that all along, really.

Lex,

When someone asks for everything, it can be tough. I would ask your realtor if this guy seems like a new buyer or a more 'experience' buyer. There are these lame ass realestate courses that teach flippers to ask for everything and lowball as well. I'm guessing this is one of them. I don't know what the market is like over where you are at, but I think it is still pretty warm/hot. To offer less than asking, plus include everything, unless you are totally desperate to sell, I would counter with my existing asking price. A "Don't waste my time" counter, and nothing is included with the counter.

Keep us in the loop, we'll ask you questions and make sure you're going along the right track. No buyer needs to know what's going on in your life. If they ask, you just are looking at different priorities in you life right now. Buyers aren't your friend, well unless they really are, some may become good friends, but with that kind of offer, I don't think so.

That's just me.

Gotta go do my presentation!

There's something else I need to take care of as well.

Lex
08-27-2005, 10:07 AM
It's not even a window box AC Nick, it is a 100% portable AC unit on WHEELS. It has a temp pipe gonig to a window as exaust, that's it's only connection to the house and even that is just laid in there. These cost 500+ bucks. Maytag.

Similar to this one:

http://imagex.homedepot.com/f/248/13340/7d/www.homedepot.com/cmc_upload/HDUS/EN_US/asset/images/eplus/024927020514_4.jpg

I also figure after his "home inspection", they will hit me with at least 3 grand in repairs probably, you know how these things go. Heck, we may even have a 25,000 mold problem before we are done, who knows.

I'm tempted to just call Andy and say decline the whole thing, don't even come back to it to let them know just how far off base they are.

Lex
08-27-2005, 10:24 AM
Paul, these are older buyers, probably being prompted partially what to ask for by their "coach" some househunters agent they opted to use even after my agent showed him the house. I guess they just saw some things they thought, hey we can use that, so we'll ask for it, as the seller has been on the market for 2 months, he may be desperate!

The offer is about 7000 under asking as well, so when you add up all the incidentalls, my 190K asking becomes about 170 the way I figured it up. Nope, I don't have to sell that bad.

Truthfully, when I set out to sell, I'd probably have taken that 170. But realizing just how the market is now, and just what my repalcement costs are, I decided my asking was pretty firm at 190. My thoughts on what I would do changed.

Stick to your guns Lex. Maybe toss them a bone or two like incl the fridge and the AC unit both of which are easy enough to replace but I wouldn't pay for the inspection or give away the kitchen sink either :)

Yeah Doug, don't get to stressed about it ;) As far as I know most people ask for all the appliances etc to begin with, if you don't ask, you won't get, right? ;) I hadn't heard about the fridge is the owners thing...? Usually you have to stipulate if you want to keep specific things like fridges. Besides it's just a fridge, you can get a new one with a proper handle, just make sure you calculate that in to the price of the house. I wouldn't give them the barstools but if you can get a decent price closer to your $190k by throwing in a little AC device, you can get a new one of those too. I mean who cares, you can get a newer, better one then, let them have the older, used one

You have some idea of what you'd settle for right? Say it's $180k, add a couple thousand for the fridge and AC brings you to $182k now counter offer in the middle of that and your asking price ($4k difference) evens out to $186, they get the fridge and AC, you keep the stools and anything else you don't wnat to give away and see what they say. That's how I'd play it at least. IMHO. Of course it's your house and money so do whatever you feel comfortable with :T

As for the home inspection, don't worry about that, most companies that do it are respectable and I wouldn't buy a house first without getting it inspected. In fact we inspected this house. All it does is protect the buyer from paying $200k for a $150k house that needs a lot of work. I doubt your house is falling apart ;) I'd assume you'd do the same to a house you'd buy wouldn't you? If you weren't planning on it, do it. The best couple hundred bucks you'll ever spend!!!!! Plus the company we used gave us a book with all the things that would need attention and timelines as to when they'd need it etc. Great service :T

aud19
08-27-2005, 01:36 PM
Oh, I missed that they wanted YOU to pay for the inspection!!!!! Ummm, NO! They can pay for that on their own or take the house as is  But again, like I said you'll only get what you ask for, so ask for everything! Obviously that's where they're coming from ;)

Those sure are pretty knives Bing. I'd almost be scared to get them dirty!

My agent ran listings of what sold in my subdivision only to base his suggestion of 169,900. I told him that was to low, and we over the course of discussion made it to 189,900. He admited in one other subdivision my house would be 199 easy. Well, sometimes you just have to find that buyer that appreciates the house regardless of where it is. I've felt deep down that 199 is not to high for my house, and that is why I won't cut a lot off my price of 190. By the time I pay realtor fees, it pretty well cuts me down closer to 180 net if I knock off a couple of grand on price to 188 say. The problem is, replacement cost given my finer tastes. I am just not happy with spec built builder grade quality after living in a custom built home for 11 years.

The one interesting thing the Charger has is the shutoff system where 1/2 the cylinders shut down until you reach a certain MPH. I just liked the ad. I still don't really like the car, and no, a 4 door muscle car isn't a reality, and the fact is, real muscle cars were not produced after 1972. Some fast cars were, but not muscle cars. It was an era, an era come and gone IMO-

Muscle car= Straight line acceleration and unbelivable power with little handling, 2 doors, 4 + barrels, 4 speed, positrack and glass packs and my back brakes were always diconnected.
I am not even sure some of the pollution equipped 72s should be refered to as muscle cars.
Todays cars are more efficient performers with more horsepower and torque in some cases and they handle and stop. But they don't have the same sound and rumble. They don't look as good. And thats why I am buying another one.

Morning guys!

Even though I don't like the new Charger, that is a great Ad!
IMHO, the Mustangs and Late Camaros/Trans-Ams are modern muscle cars. Big displacement motors (except for that 4.6L Ford era) along with RWD (live axel of course!), and two doors.

Taz - I've been practicing almost daily for awhile now. I need to find some new learning materials though. I've actually been looking for the best DVD/Book package to use. All I have now is a lesson manual that is supposed to be used with a teacher. I've finished all the melody songs and scales, and the rest of the manual is supposed to be dual guitars, which does nothing for me because It's just me. Any suggestions for DVD/Book learning courses? I can belt out the guitar version of dueling Banjos pretty good! I also play a couple latin melodies pretty good too. My fretting fingertips are all hard and lifeless now... :gah: Nice looking pad by the way!

Here is the knife I've been looking at...

It will probably be my Christmas request when I'm grilled for what I want by my parents. They actually get pissed off if I tell them I don't need anything. I might as well ask for something I want... :P Haven't decided 100% as to what I want though. This fall I'm going to make a trip out to some chef shops in suburban Boston. I need to actually hold the knives in my hand an d try them out. Nice looking knife there btw.

Just did a weeks worth of dishes and now I'm going to relax. Play with some DVDs/CDs, take some practice exams for my FAA written, and try out some new recipes I've been formulating in that bowling-ball atop my shoulders.
