I was thinking about the C5 Vette/Cessna 152 decision last night while doing some routine/boring tasks at work. I think I'm going to go for the plane, but I really want some type of convertible to pound around in since I miss my old one.
Thinking of going oldschool and picking up or building one of these...

That looks to be in great shape. Have you also considered a Miata/MGB/Fiat Spyder etc?
Nick M
08-06-2005, 05:10 PM
Nah. The bugs I've ridden in have alot more room than the Miata/MGB units I've driven. Plus the buggys have more of a fun nature than just another Miata... :P
Still thinking about what to do. I'm waiting for some price quotes on kits. Then I would need to buy a donor bug, and spend the time required. It will probably be cheaper just to buy one for ~US$4k already finished, or in need of finishing work.
Just a thought.

So I took a look at this unit. Very briefly, I wasn't too impressed with the power output. They were hooked up to a pair of Paradigm Phantom's, which are pretty sensitive, about 91db. I had it cranked to +10 on the volume scale and it was a comfortable listen. I tried to go higher, but that was about it.
Now I realize I was in a large show room, and not very representative with my actual room, but I expected more power. Plus I knew that I had to set the speakers to small, to gain a bit more power.
For some reason, I couldn't find the adjustable crossover settings, I'm sure a look through the manual would solve that problem.
The sound was quite nice. I haven't been seriously listening at home in a long time, so I really don't have anything to compare it with.
I am tempted to take it home and try it out, it does have a 30 day satisfaction gaurantee. Plus this is the last unit.
I'm a bit leary as I have read of audio problems and video drop outs, which is not very comforting.
I could always use my amp, but that defeats the purpose of the digital amps.
Finally, I'm not sure I wish to upgrade to this piece when I know there is so much more that I want. :)
Gotta go, so see you fella's on Monday.... or sooner.

Sony receivers are notorious for being underpowered, but that's usually more in their mainstream models than the ES line. I never cared for their receivers much (even though I like a lot of their other products). They tend to be difficult to set up. I couldn't even adjust the speaker levels on a Sony without RTFM.
How did the digital amps sound, other than being lacking for power?

Andrew, Iwould.
Except what do I do with the Denon 5803?
I would move it upstairs, however I had picked up the
Marantz SR-8200 for there.
I guess I could get rid of the Marantz,,although it
is likely worth nothing now.
I will have to sit tight and just be satisfied with what
I have right now. I have put so much money into
my system and upgrading is that much more costlier
at this point since you get nothing back from your
previous investments.
Lex,,He was an Olympian right.
High jump or something like that.

I worked on polishing my Corvette today.
I removed all residue and previous wax applications
with Clay Bar. Washed down the car with a special Zanio
car wash solution and applied a prewax.
So , now I have to apply 3 coats of Zaino wax/polish , 2 different types.
I am missing a certain mix , so had to stop and order it online.
Once it arrives, I can finish the job and hopefully
enjoy a show car wet look. Even at this point it looks pretty good.
The final results should be super sweet!! :yesnod:
It better, or else I am out $160 I spent on the kit.

What happened to my flip?
Kev: My initial impression was very good. I was looking for more volume to hear some more details. I didn't have my cd case, so I had to rely on the demo cd, which was hooked up through a dvd player. I wouldn't say the best of setup, but it was a digital optical connection. This is supposed to be the best setup for the digital amp to shine.
I think I would really like the unit, but if anything the sound will be vastly different from my Yamaha. Plus I really don't know if I will have time to truely enjoy the experience of setup and tweaking. Yes a very true fact for me these days. My focus has not been totaly on HT for the past several years. I still enjoy the hobby and still have fun watching movies.
I think for the long run, I'll be looking at seperates.
Trev: You can always send one of your units to me for safe keeping! ;)
I think you are thinking of Bruce Jenner the decathalete. Peter Jennings was the newscaster, from Canada, that made it big down south.
Lex: That is truely sad news.

Hey Guys!
New Toys, Dogs, and Good Grub. Sounds like a man's haven to me... :D
Been cruising around solo in the C152 for the past few days. Today I was cleared to leave the traffic pattern and go out into the surrounding area. Took a ride over where I work, then a near-by highway construction area that you can only really see by air, and I also went around a local resivoir that "powers" a hydroelectric station. Nice and calm winds too. Can't wait until next weekend. The flying coffers have been drained until next paycheck... :( ;)
The Denon 2910 should reach me Thursday. Then I can get a better idea of the Z3's capabilities. The wallmount is working great though! Working 70hrs/wk next week and the week after (covering vacations). I'll have a 40ft HDMI cable, and 84" Carada screen by the end of the month. :-y http://mysite.verizon.net/nicholasmosher/ahh.gif

Shane what kind of Dog are you training?
I may have to switch over to my Z2 equivilent 2HD soon. I noticed I've got a crap load of hours on my old ViewSonic, probably 4000 hours on that bulb. Amazing really. For a daily grinder, I could not have asked more from that 1K projector. I may just wait until she blows, then drive over it with my truck. lol. Kidding. Not sure I want to put a 300+ bulb into it though. Probably the smart thing to do would be to sell it for a couple of hundred to 250, put that with the 300 bulb money, then get another new one and be out 400 over and above that. Make sense?
Nick, you do know I can get 40 feet HDMI cables, right? Congrats on the Carada screen, I appreciate you supporting our sponsor.
I've enjoyed my Carada classic white screen here.

Another night finished at work. Everything ran smoothly and we had a nice night! Gonna' resupply at the grocery store, and work some more on trying to memorize morse code. There has to be a game or simulator somewhere that tests you, I'm sure of it... :scratchhead:
EDIT: I want to see some aircooled Porsches!
EDIT EDIT: Lex - I'm sending you a PM about the HDMI cable right now.
edit edit, I got the message, I responded once.
Sleep tight Nick, let the bed bugs bite. Oh wait, that's don't let them...
You know that's not really just a saying, there really are bed bugs that bite. I read about a rash of this happening at hotels, ack! They come out at night and suck your blood, goulishly. Ok, enough about that heartwarming tail of travel.
Yeah, Chris must be on mission snap. Travel safe Chris, come home soon...
Well, my daughter started yet another flip flop, wanting to talk about moving to Florida with a friend and going to school there. Dad started with, "I'M NOT PAYING OUT OF STATE TUITION". Dad finished with, I wish you'd make up your mind about something and stick with it! I mean I sold my Mustang in part for her, so I could pay off a loan that I still had due to buying her a new car last year. She wants to move home to a basement, which I don't have now, so I put my house for sale, now she starts all this. I did go a little ballistic on her. I'm really tired of playing games with her, I'd like for her to get on track and stay there, so maybe someday I can get on with my life whether that be saving for another classic car, travel, working on my business, whatever.
Doug
Shane Martin

Doug,
I hate to say it but cut her off and let her swim. I know because I was exactly like her when I was her age. Right now she can fall down and you are right there to scoop her up. At some point she is going to learn. It's a lesson that is extremely hard on both you and her but in the end, she will be a strong independent woman because of it. My father hated doing it and I hated him for a while for doing it thinking he abandoned me but as I grew up(over that next few years) I realized what happened and thanked him for it.
Also that 911 Turbo is not drastically different than the current 911 Carrera of 2005 except the wing and the larger wheels. I think when you actually see one in person you will warm up to it. Test mode cars are not final.
Lastly it still amazes me that Porsche is using a flat 6 cylinder engine and putting out the same horsepower as a 8.0 Liter V10.
Yeah, then I have a nephew that's worse than her. He got his car towed somewhere over the weekend, because probably he was to lazy to put it where it belongs, or else he was someplace he didn't belong to begin with. What does he do? He comes to my Mom and cons her out of the money to get his car out of hock. She should have left it there, so maybe someday that kid would learn. You are right, he's not going to learn as long as someone bails his butt out. I will say Kimberly is not as bad as he is, at least she has some sense of responsibility. But playing games where my future is concerned, my home, cars, is not good at all, and I am not going to put up with much of that.
Doug

Lex - Sounds like you need to use some tough love! Like Shane said, better to cut the strings for awhile and let her see what it takes to have things like a place to live, a vehicle, bills, etc. Better now than when she's older and you're not around anymore.
----------
Shane - I bet that turbocharged flat six doesn't have the same torque or power/RPM ratios that the V10 has though... ;)
Shane Martin
08-09-2005, 10:58 AM
I bet that turbocharged flat six doesn't have the same torque or power/RPM ratios that the V10 has though
Here are the #'s:
Viper V10: 500hp, 525 lb/ft torque
Porsche Flat 6 Turbo: 490hp, 493 lb/ft torque- extrapolated from the current 911 turbo. The turbo is going from 460 to 490 and they said the torque will go up just as much. Still these #'s are from a 3.8L engine. The Viper is an 8 Liter engine and has 4 cylinders MORE yet the total power #'s are not far off.

The rationale for this over a real piano is mostly space, weight and cost. We found this at Costco for an amazing price with stand.
You simply cannot learn piano without weighted keys and this is by far the cheapest with 88 hammered action keys (necessary to learn touch and build finger strength). We'd like to get the boys in lessons. Kathy and I used to play so I might even take it back up.
The sound is really nice...if you close your eyes you'd swear you're playing a grand piano at (a not so grand price). It doesn't take up a lot of room and will never require tuning. It can record...play a full rhythm accomp. and is PC compatible.
The build quality is very solid and elegant looking when set up on the stand.
No piano movers required ( at 24kgs anyone can carry it).

They have to go sometime....plus she needs to learn to be responsible for her own actions and the consequence of those actions. Your job in life, now, (and this is simply my perspective and opinion, disregard or disagree if you want) is to guide...especially once they're the age of majority. Never close your door and always be ready to welcome her back even if it's just for a day. Kids grow up...we grow old....life moves on.
Don't beat yourself up over her moving out....even if you feel (and it sounds like you do) that it was to spite you. It might strengthen your relationship in the long run if she learns independence and simply ween her slowly off the family teat.

Looks like a nice unit Gord :T
Well, before she moved out, I was pretty stern about what she needed to do, school, responsibility around the house, trying to help her grow up. It "could have" worked too, except for her Mother giving her the assist she needed to move out to that apartment so she could get away from responsibility!
I threatened to break completely away then when her Mother defied what I wanted to do this, but in the end, I had to reluctantly accept it, and move on. The moving out was a fiasco from word go with bad roommates, winding up in court with one x roommate, stolen possessionsl, Kimberly's new car messed up with dents. It was one thing after the other. Ironically, I was the only one that really seemed to support Kimberly though all this mess. In the process before all this and her moving in with me, i got saddled with her car insurance and cell phone bills, and to this day, I have to pay all those, her Mother does nothing for her. I've told her she's going to have to help, but I never seem to get much anyplace with that.
I've had to bail her out a time or two on expenses, money to get gas, food, now she's in an apartment of my Mom's and Mom is finishing her lease for the other apartment where Kimberly wound up the only one footing the bills at the end. Over 700 a month in rent alone.
So, tell me about letting them grow up, then supporting them when needed. She finally gets a decent retail job, is settling into paying for her new apartment, and now she wants to talk about moving to Florida where her friend moved a year or so ago. Talking of living with her parents. So, now I am really confused, she's willing to accept living with parents on the same floor in Florida, but here, nothing I can do is good enough unless it's a separate floor for her or helping her with an apartment likely.
So, damned if I know waht to do anymore. I'd already made up my mind I was not pushing school and I have not. If she goes, she's got to make up her own mind. She gets one more shot at it, if she is not succesful, she will have to pay for every class she messes up. But I am not paying for out of state tuition, and I am not supporting an out of state move.
I've gotten to the point of total frustration with her direction. I've threatened to cut her off, make her pay more of her own way, but I never seem to get to far. On top of all this, she's been fighting depression to top it all off, so I have to consider her mental well being in any decisions I make.

I've threatened to cut her off, make her pay more of her own way, but I never seem to get to far
Rule #1: Never make a threat you're not prepared to carry out. The "experts" say this all the time and, I'm not a great example, but this is one rule I can totally agree with (it hurts the parents sometimes more than the kid....but it really really works...at least with my guys....though the age is different....the rule doesn't change)
i got saddled with her car insurance and cell phone bills, and to this day, I have to pay all those
Why? These are not necessities of life (food, water, shelter is one thing), these are fringe benefits....niceties. If she wants 'em, she should pay for them (IMHO).
and now she wants to talk about moving to Florida where her friend moved a year or so ago
Does she know how to budget? Teach her....show her what she can and can not afford to do. How much the lifestyle she wants really costs. It might open her eyes. Maybe apply conditions to your gratitude....in exchange for your money she has to take money planning courses....or adult education courses on budgeting, paying for expenses, mortgages etc... because it doesn't sound like she has an appreciation for this kind of thing. If it helps do all the research for her, heck take the class with her to make sure she goes....you might even get something back (in terms of working together, doing homework etc...). If you guys take a class together.
I dunno, these are just ideas anyways because I don't fully appreciate the situation of course.

Morning guys :later:
I don't want to say much as I don't have firsthand knowledge of your relationship but I have to say I pretty much agree with Gord there. Always follow up on your decisions now matter how hard it is. My parents taught me that one and I thank them for it. Another thing I learnt was that if you let them, they'll do it. In other words if you let her have you pay for everything etc she'll do it. Wouldn't you, in her situation? That rule can apply to just about anything, not just money!
Maybe you can try some things my parents used on me Doug... Like I got to live at home, rent free, as long as I was going to school, otherwise I had to pay them rent. I also had to pay for my car/car insurance/gas as well as cell phone etc on my own. IMO that you HAVE to stop. If she wants those luxuries, SHE needs to pay for them.
Nice looking KB Gord :T

Hey Gang :later:
Lex, sorry to hear you trials, I feel you have to let Kimberly learn to make her own decisions and learn to deal with the consequence of her decisions.
Believe me, I have been thought the same with Brook when she was 17. She was at a period where there was no respect for her family and she was flippant about everything. She moved out at 18 and it only took 2 years on her own to realize that her parents weren't so stoopid. As hard as it was, I let her run her own life because part of growing as a parent also requires us to let them go and make their own choices with out us. Of course she knew that I would be there to bail her out if so required. She came back to me (emotionally) when she was about 19-20, since then our relationship has been the best it has ever been.
Fortunately for us Brook learnt very fast, and now at 25 years old, I'm so proud of her and her accomplishments. She is attending her 3rd year at the Alberta College of Art and Design working on a major in Industrial Fabric Design. She is also showing a lot of her art work at galleries and has started a small hand made clothing company. This from a girl that I worried about every day when she moved out.
So as hard as it may be, you really have to let them go. Just trust that what you have taught them since they were babies, will help them to make the right choices, or at least help them find their own way out of life's road blocks. Its not just the children that must change, we too as parents must change and adapt.

Gregorius, I hope so for your sake. I've driven a few cars that have been wrecked then fixed and they never were the same. This may have been due to the people fixing the car but it was 2 different shops. Hopefully yours will turn out ok.
Good point. In fact, yesterday I was already test driving a couple of new cars since the idea of driving the "repaired" one is bugging me.
I can probably move up from a 2003 to a 2005 Zuk, or move over to Kia (go ahead...... laugh here) with the new Spectra 5. It has had great ratings.
I don't want to go to an SUV, and I doubt I can afford a Toyota Matrix.
I may just keep it until mid-next year when Dodge comes out with their new Caliber.
There's a good video of what it looks like here:

But, yes, the Zuk most likely will never be the same.

Shane - Look at what RPMs that HP & TQ is developed, and also how wide of a band it is developed for. Turbocharging is an excellent way to artificially increase the displacement of a motor, but it also only goes so far (especially when feathering the throttle which purges the entire intake system everytime you let off the throttle). For equipment like generators and airplane powerplants where the throttle is held open they work great, but a 400hp 1.6L turbo'd civic motor is not going to be the same as a naturally aspirated 400hp LS2. Turbocharged powerplants usually have a much more narrow peak band than a motor with an equivalent "displacement". If you own/owned a turbocharged vehicle before you know that keeping RPMs in a certain band (usually a couple thousand under redline) is the only way you maintain that monster power. Some cars use staged turbos to help this somewhat. Anyhoo, I'll take the 8.0L V10...
Also remember that whatever you can do to a small motor, you can just as easily do to a big motor... :B

Guys, there are certainly more considerations than just cutting my daughter loose. When you don't have teh full picture, it's tougher to make the right decisions.
My daughter was back at the Dr today about depression. She's had weight gain, and not really been herself. So, whatever I do has to be tempered with care for her current mental health in mind. Also, she's a kid that went through divorce as a child. This can have lasting impact on a child. So, there are always other considerations, and then to, she's not a boy, she's a girl, a girl having a tough time making the transition to adulthood it seems.

why the sudden outburst Rick? I was told the overnite work we were doing was cancelled and I lost my insert from word. Then at 00:05 when I was called to go to work, I found out the info they gave me was wrong. Well at least I got to go sleep for 4 whole hours at 10:30 this AM and my first coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
But the good part is the overtime and penalties paid for a good chunk of my weekend toy buying spree.

FWIW - If you look at the amount of divorced families in the US, it's not exactly a small minority of kids that get ping-ponged. I myself grew up with divorced parents that constantly fought. When it comes to paying the bills, the buck stops at the person who "owes" regardless of issues in that persons personal life. Another lesson that needs to be learned. I'm sure she's a wonderful person Lex, but it seems she takes plenty advantage of the fact that you constantly pay for/bail her out. If she moved out because you were firm with her once, I think you should have not bailed her out everytime an issue arised. Not making enough cash for her own apartment and having to get a roommate has dangers and sometimes consequences. Cutting luxuries such as pets/cell phone/car to pay for essentials such as rent/food is another lesson. A car is definetly a luxury too. When I couldn't pay for everything when I went to college I spent 3hrs walking and swapping busses to get to and from work everyday... each way. I guess my point is that she'll have to face reality at somepoint, and it's better to learn to swim as early as possible, especially in a capitalist society such as ours where things such as insurance and retirement aren't neccessarily guaranteed. Offer your home as a place to stay, charge her a reasonable "rent" if she's not in school, and don't pay for anything else. Let her figure it out from there. Just my opinion (wow I have some serious typos in there... ).

Doug, I understand what you are sayin, and while I don't fully know the situation and every situation will be different, it's that constant coddling and reasoning of yours that may have to stop if there is to be any advancements in Kimberly. I feel she really needs to be on her own, dealing with her own problems with out you picking her up each time she falls or has a melt down.
Brook's natural mother left us when she was 2, and then walked out of her life when she was 5. She returned when Brook was 13, which really confused many issues. We all have our problems.... You have to stop making excuses for Kimberly and let her stand on her own. Again, I could be off base here and I have no right to say anything regarding anyones situation, sorry but you needed some tough love yourself.

Lex...do what you believe is right for you and your daughter...that is all we can do as parents and just pray that she absorbs and learns...we're behind you buddy!

Guys, your points are well taken. The only thing is, she does have to crawl before she can walk. I'm trying to get her to take more responsibility for her actions. But it's also somewhat tougher today for kids. I won't put her out here without a car, as she just would not be able to handle that. Nor will I put her on the roads without insurance, she has to have that. Yes, I can make her pay more for what she has, and I will work on that. Her cell phone stuff went way overboard, and I am trying to get her back to reality with that.
We'll see where her head is as school starts. If she starts or not, or wants to bolt. I'm not supporting a Fla decision, that is final. She is going to have to pay some of her part of bills to. She gave me a 130.00 check for a huge cell phone overrun, I'm cashing it as soon as she gets her commission check.
In her defense, she has worked close to 40 hours a week, and sold like 20,000 in jewelry in the last month. That is showing at least some responsibility. Fact is, I think I'd like to see her keep that job for a while and work at that. Master it, then who knows she might even find her niche and become a manager.

The only 2 potential issues are:
1. It's a Dodge. Their reliability is suspect on their smaller cars. Can we say Neon?
2. It's a new product. One rule you never try to break is to buy a car in the first year of its release.

ugggh, I stayed up to late watching Johnny Knoxville and his cousin Roger Wade on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Roger did a song about a slut. Apparently the whole album is rather crude song humor. I think it's titled "All Liquered Up". You can probably look it up on Jimmy Kimmel live's web site if you want. Roger has done songs for several country stars over the years, Cash, Willie Nelson. But as far as a career himself, it's been pretty limited to local type shows. I guess what you have is the coattail effect. He's latched onto Knoxville's coat tail and trying to catch the wave with him.
Talk about crazy stuff. (The TN crazy woman) We have a close friend that had been at our church for 12 years. Well he left 6 years ago to be a missionary in South America. He runs a "Feed The Children" program down there. Me and my wife sponsor a few of the kids. He feeds over 7000 kids a week! Plus he has Medical personel on staff that give the kids medical care. :T
The BAD NEWS........ some freeking morons kidnapped his 16 year old girl! They then called the church and asked for 1 million US to get his girl back! 8O I am not sure....but last time I checked missionaries do not have loads of money! :nonod:
Long story short.....lots of people prayed......the authorites got involved......the ransom was lowered to an ammount that he could get.....Him and some other pastors went to the drop.....paid the ransom....Authorites were sneeky and were tailing the pastors.....got the bad guys! :T and The pastor finally got his girl back! :T The only thing wrong with the girl aside from the mental trauma... is some jacked up wrist from the ropes that had her tied up.
The next day.....him and his wife and their girl were back feeding kids!
That was yesterday that they went back to work!
I hope those kidnappers get a :smackbutt:

The Smiths were unable to conceive children, and decided to use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife and said, "I'm off. The man should be here soon."
Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer rang the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. "Good morning madam. I've come to..."
Oh, no need to explain. I've been expecting you," Mrs. Smith cut in.
Really?" the photographer asked. "Well, good! I've made a specialty of babies."
That's what my husband and I had hoped So, please come in and have a seat." After a moment she asked, blushing, "Well, where do we start?"
Leave everything to me. I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch and perhaps a couple on the bed. Sometimes the living room floor is fun too....you can really spread out!"
Bathtub, living room floor? No wonder it didn't work for Harry and me!"
"Well, madam, none of us can guarantee a good one every time. But if we try several different positions and I shoot from six or seven angles, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results."
"My, my, that's a lot of ...of.....!!" gasped Mrs. Smith.
"Madam, in my line of work, a man must take his time. I'd love to be in and out in five minutes, but you'd be disappointed with that, I'm sure."
Don't I know it," Mrs. Smith muttered.
The photographer opened his briefcase and pulled out a portfolio of his baby pictures. "This was done on the top of a bus."
Oh my god!!" Mrs. Smith exclaimed, tugging at her handkerchief.
"And these twins turned out exceptionally well, when you consider their mother was so difficult to work with."
"She was difficult?" asked Mrs. Smith faintly.
"Yes, I'm afraid so. I finally had to take her to the park to get the job done right. People were crowding around four and five deep, pushing to get a good look."
"Four and five deep?" asked Mrs. Smith, eyes widened in amazement.
"Yes", the photographer said. "And for more than three hours, too. The mother was constantly squealing and yelling; I could hardly concentrate! Then darkness approached and I began to rush my shots. Finally, when the squirrels began nibbling on my equipment, I just packed it all in."
Mrs. Smith leaned forward. "You mean they actually chewed on your...um...equipment?"
"That's right. Well, madam, if you're ready, I'll set up my tripod so that we can get to work"
"Tripod!!"
"Oh yes, I have to use a tripod to rest my Canon on. It's much too big for me to hold for very long.......Madam? Madam?...Good Lord, she's fainted....!"

Morning all :sn
Man my evening got killed....Kathy took her Mom and the kids to the cottage till Friday....but a half hour before end of day I get a call. I didn't recognize her voice because we don't own a cell so I didn't expect the call to be from her. She said "it's me" and I said "me who".
Turns out she was stuck on the highway 15-20 mins outside the city. The front passenger tire blew....so I left early....biked home like a madman and then got out there (she doesn't know how to change the spare....good thing to learn).
So I look at the tire and the thing is shredded...it didn't just blow, it disintegrated 8O . I'll have to take a pic when she gets back (she has the camera).
So, I change the tire and then we decided to go into selkirk for dinner....ate at a nice little italian place (a little pricey considering service was slow intially) but the food came in good time and was really good quality so I didn't mind much.
Had a brie cheese apple salad....really nice drizzled with a balsamic vinegrette and had slices of chicken in there....I might have to duplicate that one in the future because it was really good. Kathy and her Mom had pasta and the kids had pizza (of course ;) ...ham and pineapple for one, and ham and salami for the other).
They head off to Gimli on the doughnut and I took the bum tire back to the 'Peg....did some grocery shopping, picked up some stuff from work (that I left there to lighten my load) and came home, plunked around on the piano and then crashed...as I said, my night was shot....hope I get a chance to get more done tonight with less false starts.

Tired of making your daypack conform to the demands of cycle commuting? Then try MEC’s Spirit Velo 25L on for size. This mid-capacity pack has lots of velo-friendly features, such as an adjustable shockcord system for holding your helmet, an internal pocket for slipping in a hydration pouch, and two vertical Scotchlite™ reflective strips to make the pack visible to motorists in low light.
* Zippered entry daypack designed for cycling day trips.
* Pack material is made of durable 250g, 420-denier nylon on the body, with 370g, 1000-denier nylon on the bottom.
* Three horizontal staybars for superb support while cycling, as well as back protection.
* Internal Neoprene® pocket holds a hydration system (not included).
* Adjustable shockcord system for holding your helmet or lashing on other gear.
* Dual Scotchlite™ reflective strips.
* Flasher-light holder on the back.
* Capacity of 25L.
Or possibly this one (not bike specific...but then again it doesn't need to be for daily commutes)

The Cragosaurus is no prehistoric pack. Designed with climbers and commuters in mind, this haul-it-all is a simple – but modern-looking – top-loader with a non-detachable lid and spindrift collar for extra large loads. On the back, a clever helmet/snowshoe/utility compression stash pocket lies in wait. Inside the large lid pocket there’s a key clip and small zippered pocket perfect for bits and pieces. Padded, contoured backpad and shoulder straps help bear the burden of heavy loads. Inside, a stretch panel holds a hydration system (not included) firmly in place.
* The pack body is made from a combination of 630-denier Superpack and 1000-denier nylon. The backpad is 500-denier nylon backed by EVA foam.
* Back bottom is a rugged 1000-denier nylon.
* Contoured shoulder straps, sternum strap, and 50mm waistbelt.
* YKK® zips.
* Made in Vietnam.
* Capacity is 36L.

Yeah, damned if I can remember the name. Their pasta was a little rich (butter, loads of it) but very tasty. No one could finish their plates ('cept for the kids) so for the money it WAS good value considering you have lunch for the next day ;)

Hi Guys!
Well, I attended another funeral today.
A young boy (17years)was murdered last Friday night.
He was stabbed over someone trying to take his ball cap from him.
A good kid from a good family. Just happens that he was the brother
of one of my associates. This was one of the most emotional services that
I have attended for obvious reasons. There were hundreds in attendance
and it was amazing how he was presented during the service. Many family
members stood up and talked about him and how he had impacted their lives.
He was just going into grade 12 and was active in hockey and lacrosse.
The person who murdered him has not been arrested as of yet.
I just can't imagine what the family is going through,,actually I can,,they are totally devastated..in shock, disbelief. It really is difficult to put yourself in their shoes.
Loosing a child is one of the most difficult things, but loosing a child due to senseless
murder if a whole different scenario.
I am just so sad of this happening,,very sad.:(
Bing, I am sure you have read about this in the newspaper or seen it on the news.

Just wanted to share some news of a new cool VOIP Phone toy called VoipBuster (http://www.voipbuster.com/).
It is a competitor to Skype's SkypeOut but the cool thing (for as long as it lasts) is that you can do free calls from your PC into the regular telephone net in some 25 countries. One just have to buy a credit worth 1 Euro approx 1 USD and then it's just to start calling.
I used it on a 1 hour+ conference call to the US last evening and it costed me Zero.Nothing :) and the quality is really not bad.
It's a Swiss telecom company that obviously wants to get into the VOIP market and is giving us this toy to play with... No one knows for how long it will be free of charge to these destinations but as long as it is, it sure is worth using! Even when and if they would start to charge for calls they are competitive to SkypeOut and other services.
So, for those that want to try it out, just go and download the program and start play around with it.

We've been pretty good... just can't stay off the lawnmower. You know... RAIN and MORE RAIN... and then even MORE RAIN... is makin' the grass grow over night. It's like I'm cuttin' grass every 3-4 days and I ain't got no little lot... I got acres!
That's a Mahindra 6500 4WD 65HP... there's also a front end loader on it too. Then I got the bush hog (rotary cutter), boxblade, duragrader, boom, etc. Enough to do some major earth movin' with. It has the shuttle trasnmission on it so it's fairly easy to drive, but Angibug ain't gone be getting on it... it's a little too big for her. The picture is somewhat deceiving... it's really a monster of a tractor. 7500lbs without the loader... that's with the tires loaded with water/antifreeze.
My office mate has one of those 5 acre yards, he's been singing the lawn riding blues too. Looking at some 8K lawn cutter, you know, pro grade gear that would cut his time down from 4 hours to like an hour. But I think he decided to wait until spring. He's to cheap.
I guess I am the exception, I want a smaller yard, not a larger one, lol. In fact, it would be ok with me to concrete it and paint it green.

Well I cut right at 10 acres in about 3.5 hours with my 61" Grasshopper Z-mower, but then there's the weedeating (2-3 hours including around the pond), and then the fenced area in the back yard that I push mow with a little 20" Snapper (1 hour). It's aggravating when it rains just enough eveyday then the sun comes out to make it grow so faster. I wish I had not even fertilized what part I did... that part almost has to be cut every 2-3 days.

Andrew, Mahindra and Mahindra, Inc., manufactured International Harvester for upteen years and in 94 bought out their rights, then started makin' their own. Mahindra manufactured more tractors in the U.S. last year than any other maker. They are now the 3rd largest tractor maker in the U.S. They are strongly going after Kubota for the market share. Prices are awesome... big bank for the buck.
They do this commercial where they use one of their smaller compact tractors to lift a John Deere on the front and at the same time lift a Kubota on the rear. They have the heaviest tractors on the market under 90HP and have the highest lift capacity of any of the makers under 90HP as well. Just an all around beefy tractor with a lot of umphhh. I investigated long and hard before buying... just happened on Mahindra and almost couldn't believe what I found.
Check out their website: MahindraUSA (http://www.mahindrausa.com) ... you can see the commercial there also.
Careful, no deere bashing. :) My Deere handles my yard in about 30 minutes, weedeating another 30. It's exausting.

Thanks Lex :) I think I seen gas was $0.99 a Liter here (thats about $3.79/Gallon). Buggars, just wanting to jack the prices, but don't want to totaly hit that dollar hump yet. Once we are over the $1.00/L mark, then they will escalate freely.

IH I'd heard of, not this other brand. Made in India?
Yep... many of the big makers have parts made in India and other places overseas. They just make the parts mostly... they are put together here in the USA. Mahindra has plants in Texas and one in Conyers, Georgia. Mahindra and Mahindra originally started building tractors for IH in India. They gradually started expanding and finally made it to the U.S.
About the only tractor company I know of that is actually build from ground up in U.S. is Powertrac and they ain't too spiffy IMO.

Here's a little more detailed info...
The origins of M&M's Farm Equipment Sector lie in the formation of a joint venture in 1963 between the Company, International Harvester Inc., and Voltas Limited, christened the International Tractor Company of India (ITCI). This enterprise was a shot in the arm for the green revolution then beginning to sweep the country. The launch of high-performance tractors played a vital role in the mechanisation of Indian agriculture.
In 1977, ITCI merged with M&M and became its Tractor Division. After M&M's organisational restructuring in 1994, this division was called the Farm Equipment Sector.
M&M's Farm Equipment Sector is the largest manufacturer of tractors in India with sustained market leadership of over 19 years. The Farm Equipment Sector is the first Tractor Company in the world to win the Deming Application Prize. Also, it is the fourth company in India and the 10th in the world, outside Japan, to win this prize. It designs, develops, manufactures and markets tractors as well as implements which are used in conjunction with tractors. The tractor industry in India is segmented by horsepower into the lower segment of 25 HP, mid-segment of 35 HP and higher segment of 45 HP and above. The Company's Farm Equipment Sector has a presence in all these segments across all states.
The Farm Equipment Sector has also ventured into manufacturing of Industrial Engines. M&M Industrial engines are used for various applications like Genset, Industrial, Construction, Marine Compressors etc. These engines are manufactured at the Company's state of art Engine Assembly plants at Kandivli and Nagpur.
M&M has two main tractor manufacturing plants located at Mumbai and Nagpur in Maharashtra. Both these plants have been certified for ISO 9001, QS-9000 and ISO 14001. Apart from these two main manufacturing units, the Farm Equipment Sector has satellite plants located at Rudrapur in Uttarachal and Jaipur in Rajasthan.
The Farm Equipment Sector of the Company has a strong and extensive dealer network of over 450 dealers for sales and service of tractors and spare parts. This dealer network is managed by 28 area offices, situated in all the major cities and covering all the principal states.
M&M tractors have earned goodwill and trust of more than 8,00,000 customers and the 'Mahindra' tractor has come to be recognised as a powerful symbol of productivity and performance.
In addition to capturing the domestic market, M&M's Farm Equipment Sector has also found significant success in the international market. Whilst around 90% of our tractor exports are to the USA, M&M also exports tractors to neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and African countries like Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia etc.
Mahindra USA, a wholly owned subsidiary based in the USA, has established a network of 140 dealers. Several other international markets are being developed to expand M&M's global reach in the Farm Equipment Sector.
For more details: tractor.mahindraworld.com
Mahindra USA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of M&M, began selling tractors in America in 1994 from its headquarters in Tomball, Texas. It has since firmly established the Mahindra brand and captured a significant share of the American small-tractor market. The company has two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive utility tractor lines for part-time farming enthusiasts, turf managers, nursery operators, and small and medium-sized contractors. Its products have gained considerable brand recall among users of small tractors in the US.
Actually that was Calhoun, Georgia... NOT Conyers.
Today M&M ranks among the largest tractor companies in the world with sales of nearly 85,000 units annually in 10 countries. In India, the largest tractor market in the world, Mahindra has been the number one selling brand since 1983.

Actually that's a sharp pack. The one I got is more cycling based I guess....yours is very multi-functional.... very nice :yesnod:
I tossed around whether I wanted a book bag style versus this and after trying it on I knew this would work better for me. My lunch kit, some work clothes....possibly rain gear....pockets for keys wallet etc... Yup it's a nice bag with good capacity. Very solid. Should work well for short day hikes as well :T

Excellent Gordo, you'll get lots of use out of that pack :T
Thanks, it more day pack/city than mountain gear pack if you will. I have 3 other mountain style packs in the same 25-40 Liter range, and I always wanted a more pedestrian style pack ;) on with zippers that was easy to get at stuff. My new helmet does not fit in the shovit pocket, so I just store a rain jacket in it. The side mesh Bottle sleeves fits 1 liter Nalgenes perfectly.
Here it is here, I took a picture of it for you as I just got home

If you get a chance, you should try the hydration option. I have a couple of these Platyapus Hoser hydration bags that I use on day hikes and Backpack trips. There are so handy. I haven't used them while cycling, but I can see they would be handy in that capacity as well. You just slip it in the pack and attach the bite valve to a main strap. Katherine loves using her's too :)

They may pass a law like Oklahoma did in which anything that can make meth(over the counter stuff) has to be put behind the counter and restricted in the # of pills you can purchase. It has worked here in Oklahoma by reducing meth by a large %. I think they said 60%.
Someone should work their photoshop magic and put Bing's face on Charles Bronson's body and photoshop a water pistol instead of the pistol he has(44 or 357?). That would be RICH.

This area has been one of the highest producers of this crap they call Meth. They catch people all the time here, or they blow up mobile homes and such. It seems like I heard one of their ingredients is over the counter allergy medication, and they were going to remove it off the shelves and make people ask for it in the pharmacy I think? Something like that.
I used to have a banana seat bike. They were great wheelie popping machines. I guess that's why I was so good at wheelies on motorcycles, I had lots of practice. I could ride a wheelie on my 175 Yamaha all the way up the street. You know I never once flipped a bike over backwards unless it was a semi-controlled situation on dirt. My favorite thing to do on the dirt bike was hill climbing. The steeper the better, I loved it. Then you tried to kee the front end down though, lol.
