We're thinking of trying a new restaurant this weekend. The restaurant is owned by Harrison Ford's son. He was actually here last week to eat at the restaurant. They had an interview with him on TV about his dad and his acceptance and how he learned to cook at age 14 because his mom had MS(I think). Sorry I slept since I've seen the show ;)
Anyway it is the talk of the town. He opened it up here because his best friend has a sushi place here(in the raw). Ford's place aka Ford's Filling Station prides itself in using fresh herbs and other nice things.
Not cheap(~$20-$25 a plate) but everyone I've talked to about it loves the place.

Morning folks :later:
So how does that Dell look Trev?!?! :P :E :T
Bing, the 6LB one is stupid and disgusting. The other one's ridiculous and vile  Girl's cute though
Taz good luck with the construction! :E
Andrew/Ben, my dad has some X10 stuff that works relatively well (now) but ya he had to sacrifice a few chickens, dance with a shaman and do the hokey pokey to get it running  I hope to do a Lutron/Levitron or the like system starting in the family/HT room some point down the line. Then upgrade other parts of the house down the line.
Gord's right Bing, you got more than most would (albiet after a LOT of hassle  ) so take the new shiny one and run

Howdy fellas. :later: and ladies if any.
Just one of those weeks. I'm getting tired of doing other peoples jobs, especially when we are paying those said people(contractor) to do a certain job.
I've got enough to do already.
I'm assuming our local bog fire is now under control. Haven't heard any news about it lately, or I should say it's not an inferno, so it slips off the headline news.
That new hurricane is scary. I remember a stat somewhere that stated that the US is the country with the most natural disasters.
No new toys have caught my eye, but the week is still young.

Last I herad it was pretty much under control Paul :T Ground crews were flooding the peat and generally trying to put out the ground smoldering and prevent it from spreading any further. The cool weather and little bits of rain we got a couple days ago likely helped as well though I'm sure they would have preferred a day or two of downpour ;)
Yeah I can't believe there's a third LARGE hurrican coming now. Remind me to stay here on the left coast... All we have to worry about is the impending giant earthquake!
Bing, I was just remembering your wanting to discard all your big gear... On top of the advice from others that it was likely a temporary disillusionment, I wanted to also comment that it has been summer time. We tend to use our gear less when the weather's nice ;) The closer to winter we get, my guess is the happier you'll be with your system as is :T

Jason, don't get me wrong, i'm very happy with my gear. The sound of Music is still fantastic, DVD's still look very film like, however I was just contemplating a more compact, asthetic set-up. One where function follows form. Although I use the system less, I enjoy it no less. I'm just playing with the idea of an uncluttered room.
So I'm renovating our lower bathroom. Its is a total gut just like our kitchen. Ceramic tiles sure are a drag to get off. It's chewing up the drywall so much that I'll probably end up replacing all the drywall in the room.

Just received my new Shun knife.
What a hunk of junk!
First off, the stand was busted brand new out of the box. This caused the blade to bounce around, scuffing up the handle.
Second, there are gaps between the bolster and blade I can slip the tip of my fingernail into, the handle is poor quality, and the blade is incredibly nose heavy... balanced my @$$.
Just called Metrokitchen and they're sending me a return shipping label via eMail. I guess I'm on the search again...

Going to do a partial exchange. When I went to the cutlery shop last week, the only knife I halfway liked was the Wusthof Classic CK. It lacked a seamless handle, was a bit heavier than my ideal knife, and had a full bolster that ruined it's ability to slice, but the Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 8" CK addresses these issues with a half bolster and thinner blade. Still doesn't have a seamless handle, but neither did the Shun I just ordered.
I need something to replace my old CK which has a couple nicks in the blade, and is extremely worn/beat to snot. I guess this knife will have to do...

Bing Fung
09-20-2005, 03:36 PM
I would not get too hung up on a seamless handle Nick. Most of the Top end Professional knifes don't have a seamless for a reason, FEEL. The classic handles feel the best and in the quality range you're looking at, the gap should be tight, so cleaning is a non issue. The Wushof looks like a much better knife with out the weird handle as the Shun.
Our Henckles and Mac are classic tangs, and we prefer that. The handles are tight to the tang, so tight you can't even feel a separtion with your fingernail :T Here's hoping the Wushof meets your grade.
Taz, I know I would like Line arrays, and I'm like you. I would love to build something based on the WR125 drivers :yesnod:

Yes Christine and I are still enjoying it very much :T It's proven to be pretty handy and reliable so far. Its a very capable offroader, yet still retains the smooth mannerisms of a compact sedan.
Christine has stated she loves the way it feels while driving home to the farm on the gravel roads. Around town she loves how it gives her a better vantage point to the road, yet it's nimble enough for her to handle in tight situations.

It's either going to be Marty, JD or Mig as the new lead singer of the band.
The 2 that don't make it though, will have a great career ahead of them regardless.:yesnod:

Trev, what is INXS Rockstar?
I liked Suzie, Trev. I thought she rocked the joint her last week. I voted for her.
But they didn't want a girl in the band.
Mig is to weird, Marty isn't it. I think it's JD.

This has been the best show this summer.
Makes the American Idol and Canadian Idol shows look so lame

Sweet Suzie Mcneil from Toronto was great, but not as great as the final 3.
I won't tell who won the lead singer title. Just in case some haven't seen the finale
due to Time Zone differences.

Sorry guys, I'm not into the "Who Wants to be a singer" shows  I mainly watch the Discovery Channel, Food Network, TLC or the Movie Channels... Thats about it.
Well, see I found her much more appealing than Mig or Marty. JD, I admit, he's pretty darn right for the band. So, I'm not unhappy with their final choice as far as from those 3. But I still loved Suzie.
Mig was right for a young punky type band. Suzie did fit, just female vs male. but you see, I think that plays to a wide audience, and gives them a lot of flexibility.
Marty had totally unimpressed me up until tonight.
He did perform pretty well tonight, I'll give him that.
Bing, ordinarily, I would not be into this type show. But I accidentally turned it on. Brooke turned me on too, so I watched. Then I found myself enjoying it, and getting into seeing the contestants perform. It was a good show, a lot better than some reality crap. Sure, this was staged to a degree. I mean, they had to meet some requirements to get on the show to begin with.

It was well done and highly professional in my mind!
These preformers were not Star Search talent.
These performers are all highly skilled.
Each of their singing skills were at very high levels
and the stage performances were usually outstanding.
Marty was my favorite of the group, however deep down I
knew JD was right for the band.
He will do well and I think that it is fitting that Marty KC
was asked to be the opening act during their
World Wide Tour starting in January. It was the fans of the
series who voted him into top contender and a bye into
the finale.
You mean the blindfold, er - miniskirt she had on three weeks ago?

Hi, guys-
First, an apology for my absence period, which I'll explain. My wife and I are having some rather large marriage difficulties. Things that have been building up for the last 8 years have come to a head, and we can't just keep going on without addressing some major issues. Complicating the situation, I found out that she's been monitoring my posts here on TTP for some time now. This is the only place that I choose to interact with other people and pursue friendships outside of work, so you'll probably understand that was pretty devastating for me--the one place I choose to reach out, really isn't mine.
Well, enough whining. I'm not going anywhere, so I'll be around. I've been flying some, too. I was supposed to be back in my office job, but we suddenly surged even more than our usual combat levels for some practice exercises (don't get me started) and hurricane relief. (now THAT one's actually worthwhile) So they snagged every possible pilot they could find to go fly. I got another combat mission, so I've been doing a lot of flying in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last month or so.
Now that I'm home, I saw that I got some very nice messages from Doug and David, and Jim gave me a call today. Thank you guys so very much! I've got some catching up and messages to return. No worries, boys, life goes on, and I'll be around. Take care!

Hey, Bing, sorry to hear about your mom.
Chris, good to see you post. I don't know what to say regarding all that and maybe saying nothing is best. Well, I will say it's not like you were out chasing women when you were here! That's for sure. A man with the pressures you have on you, definitely needs some releases. That's for sure. If that means having some friendly bantor with guy friends about a hobby/passion we share, well?...
I can't profess to understand the intracacies of your marriage, and I wouldn't even try, certainly not via open forum. But I can imagine just from the military demands alone, would be a great deal of stress on any relationship.
It's enough for me personally to know you are "ok". I expected job demands could be up, yes during all the events going on nationally.
Mostly, I'm just glad to see you post, and see that you are ok. Do what you must for your life. If that doesn't involve us, well, we'd deal with it. Doesn't mean we'd like it, but we would understand.
We all are here if you need to talk, on or offline.
Bing, that is a nasty fall your Mom took! They say breaking ribs can be very painful, and there's nothing they can do for them except tape them, pretty much. I wish your Mother a speedy recovery as well. On the bright side, at least it seems she did not break a hip, something that happens with a lot of elder's falls, and those can frequently be devistating.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Mom seems to be OK, just bruised up very badly. Apparently they can not tape her ribs for fear of pneumonia so she'll just have to suffer with it. I broke a rib playing hockey and I know how much that hurts. Even just breathing hurts. It just pains me to see my mom like this.
The doctors said she'll be stiff for quite some time. They noticed a slight blockage in her sinuses during a scan and will need to look further into this.
Bing, I had not thought about the taping could cause that. But it is certainly true with the elderly, special rules apply. Is she staying with your Sister while she heals? I hope she's not to sore within a day or two, so she can stay mobile.

Regarding Rockstar, my wife liked the other girl that got knocked out late(forgot her name). I do agree that JD was right for their band but I preferred Marty. I think Marty will turn up on an alternative band somewhere.
I mainly watch the Discovery Channel, Food Network, TLC or the Movie Channels... Thats about it
Did you forget about We, Lifetime, HGTV, Oprah and Dr Phil ? :B
what about the HISTORY Chan?? That is the best one out there.
Oprah is of the Devil! :roflmao:if there was a way to block that show from my TV I would do it! My wife watches her every day! :( :nonod:

I have G4/Tech TV, but haven't watched that lately. I liked it more when it was just Tech TV.

I'm going through hell trying to get insurance for the house. What a scam these companies have going. One freakin' claim, and next thing you know, no one wants your money anymore. If any other business tried to do what insurance companies get away with everyday, they would either go out of business or go to jail. We need some serious reform here.

So Trev, when are you going to upgrade to the 5D so I can buy your 20D for a song? ;)
Did you notice the 20Da as well?
20Da Digital SLR Camera Body
Canon has announced that its specialized EOS 20Da which was at first introduced as a Japan Only model will now be available in the rest of the world. The EOS 20Da is identical to the EOS 20D except for a modification to the low-pass filter. This camera is best suited to astrophotography.
Japanese consumers have had the EOS-20Da for months now and have utilized its ability to take images of astronomical features with much more color detail, especially in hydrogen based reds.
The enhanced red colors, found in some astronomical formations, are achieved through the modification of the camera’s infrared blocking filter, which normally reduces reddish tones in the standard EOS 20D. The resulting images have higher contrast and yield sharper images that would normally be diffused.
Canon has also modified the camera’s mirror and opened the shutter to provide a live image view on the EOS 20Da’s 1.8-inch LCD.
Price: $2,795.00 CDN
If I had the Cash, my camera would be the Nikon D2X, I hope they provide a trickle down tech camera soon....
Good to hear on the monitor Trev :yesnod:

Not all pixels are created equal and nobody demonstrates this better than Phase One. Using Phase One’s software with their family of backs takes image quality to the next level. Capture 16-bit images with the H20 and H25 backs. Combining high quality CCDs with Phase One Capture One software achieves results that surpass those from film while providing the photographer with a productivity- and creativity-enhancing workflow.
Surprisingly, with the popularity of 11, 16 and 22 megapixel options, hundreds of 6 megapixel Phase One backs remain in active use in Canada and 6 megapixel popularity continues to hold. Proof positive that quality of photography and quality for the client stem from much more than just megapixels.

Nice Camera's.

I hate TD Canada Trust! Do NOT DO ANY BANKING WITH THIS INSTITUTION!!!!
This is coming from a long time customer of this 'financial' RIP OFF Bank.
We are finalizing a refinancing of a rental property in Alberta. We have signed a power of attorney as the documents have to be filed in Alberta. Notice we don't live in Alberta. Well the bank has told us that we need to sign these documents in person in BC then send them to Alberta. I'm thinking that's more cost to me and we've done this before, so what's the problem??
I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with these guys. Banks, they are a great business to own as they know how to screw with their customers.
I don't think TD realizes how much bad customer relations can have on thier reputation and business. I'm am now going to actively look to switch to another institution. Before I was passive, I had moved all my money out, but kept the account as it was easier. Now I am PISSED!
What is really cool is that I can actively affect TD's bottom line. So if you have any RRSP's at TD I would recommend moving it from them. I can do that for you if you are in BC, or I can put you intouch with someone that can do it for you anywhere in Canada!
I am now on a mission to transfer as much money out of TD as I can and with the team that I am building that is going to be a lot of money leaving TD!!
Like I said, I won't hesitate in owning a piece of TD, as they can make money, but they won't be making money off of me!!!

NO not camera, camera back, you still need the Hasslebad or Mayamia camera @ $5k and up. Bing: Hope your mom feels better soon.
Pr@: Well my dislike of TD has been brewing for quite a while.
[Long Story Follows]
I have been a long term client with TD for well over 20 years. In that time I've had savings and chequing account, car loans, RRSP's and mortgages. So this is not a simple I hate a bank flavour of the month. TD has steadily been providing poor service to me since 1998 and they have been going down hill and hit pretty much rock bottom as of Sept of 2001. You see in Aug of 2001 I completed the sale of my condo, but come Sept 4, the fist business day of the month, my mortgage payment from TD comes out of my account.
As I'm refinancing my rental unit, I'm going through a mortgage broker, we settle on TD as offering the best product. I had a bit of reservation, but decided, I'll go with what he has worked out. It's going good, and TD is starting to redeem themselves. There are some items in the terms that I have to adjust and didn't get everything I wanted, but that's how comprimises work, right? You get something and I get something.
Well now we are in the final stages and then this lawyer and signing thing comes up. That was the last straw for me. Truely the straw that broke this camels back. My wife feels the same way.
As much as I don't like any of the other institutions, I will take my business somewhere else. I have a credit union in mind and have existing dealings with them.
I really wanted this to work out, but maybe it's just not going to happen.
I called my branch that will be servicing the mortgage, and they say they can't do anything because it's through a mortgage broker. I got a contact number for the TD person that is supposed to handle these things and called and the phone just went on ringing. Like have you heard of voice mail??
The funny thing is, if TD did not have this policy in place, everything would be fine, I would not have felt one way or the other, etc. But I am still mad!
[long story finished]
[Coles notes]
The bank screwed me once. Now their policy is nickle and diming me again and I'm just fed up. Going to look to move my money out and have begun the process.
[end]
Chris: Glad to see you posting. I wish you and your family well.
Erik: Hi. :later:
Bent: I'm not aware of any on-line only banks. I think PC Financial was the closest, but I heard that was closing down. I think Citizen's bank is a branchless bank, but I've heard some bad service stories.
I've got a nice ING savings account.
Jason: Like I said Banks are a great business to own cause they know how to screw the average consumer over with all those fees.
How a bank used to work is they kept your money and paid you a small interest rate and then turned around and lent that money to other people and charged a higher interest rate. The difference is how the bank made all their money and paid for everything.
Now the bank does the above, but now charges for basically everything you do with the bank. So the old profit is still there from the spread, but they are cost recovering everyting. In fact internet banking is the worst! You maintain your computer, you pay for your connection, and you do all the data entry! The bank charges you for that service. Sure you may have a 'free' service but you pay for it somewhere and the bank discounts it for you. I've seen the phrase they use on my statements.
So the last time I got a loan for a car at TD. I told them they better not charge me the $40 to put a lean on my car. The lady said why? Well because I'm going to make my payments and if I don't that's the cost of you doing business with me! And they didn't charge me. How I knew about that $40 charge was they did that to me the very first time.
Kev: I hope you can find an insurance company for your home. That really sucks how you are getting screwed over.

Andrew, According to your link..
The First Toothbrush
In the seventeenth century, Europeans often used rags or sponges dipped in sulfur oil or a salt solution to rub their teeth clean. Sometimes these rags were attached to a stick to help reach the back teeth, but the teeth were essentially being mopped, rather than brushed. From this practice evolved the first toothbrush, invented in 1780 by William Addis of Clerkenwall, England.

I guess it must depend on just what you define as a toothbrush...and you'd have to think sulfer oil can't be fun!

That is a bit bizzaro about Chris's wife checking his posts here on the HTG. I was a little freaked out by that. Sorry Chris.
And that's exactly why it bothered me so much, too. Not just because it affects me, but all of us enjoy TTP as a place where we can just talk freely. I debated not telling you guys, but... whatever. Hopefully it'll stop and be a moot point.
Nick, I'm glad you got the wings. I realize you're not going to wear big silver Air Force wings on your T-shirt the next time you fly or anything, but hey... it's the best I've got. :)

HSBC is supposed to be pretty good for an independant bank. I've heard good things about them:
http://www.hsbc.ca/hsbc
We use a credit union....I was with TD for years and I agree with Paul.....poor customer service....high bank fees.....and an overall lack of empathy soured my outlook. I pulled everything I had from TD.
Many other people I know have stated similar stories as Paul. Especially the ones with business accounts. They got so frustrated, they yanked everything. I will never deal with TD as long as I breathe.

I'm not offended by it. Marriages should be an open door. What's so secretive that needs to be hidden? If it's a big secret then it's probably something, someone shouldn't do or say. If you have to hide the fact you post girly pics or say stuff you normally wouldn't say around your spouse (not singling out anyone, just presenting an example), then you and your spouse have internal problems. Plus when you keep secrets and you eventually get "busted" (and you will) it's a thousand fold worse.
We don't know the whole story of why she felt the necessity to check in on what's said on the guide. There's obviously a communication issue and 2 sides to every story.
I'm not saying one's more right than the other, but we don't know any of their issues (and personally between you me and the wall-paint, I don't wanna know, it's none of my business) and really marital distress would be better served with a marriage councillor, clergy or off-line since it's really a personal matter between the couple
In My Humblest Opinion.
All that said, Chris, I hope you two work through your problems....every couple experiences stuff. I'm sure the travel plays a big part. So for you, your wife and daughter's sake I hope you all get past this (whatever it is)

Hey guys, for what seems like the first time in ages, I actually received some GOOD news for a change! 8O My insurance company finally gave in and is going to rescind the negligence charge and they're not going to cancel our homeowner's policy now! This is a MAJOR load off my back. I was having major issues trying to get new insurance lined up before the old policy was to run out end of October, while at the same time dealing with the still open claims due to the house not being finished yet, replacement items not bought yet, etc.
I am *SO* relieved! I think this just added 5 more years to my lifespan! :yeah:
So, how are you guys doing?

Kevin, that is a huge load off. I was thinking about some of that offline myself yesterday, what a predicament you must have been in, telling prospective insurers you just had a major claim, or they see it on a common report maybe. I mean unless you could pay a house off, then the finance company would put their own expensive insurance on it!
And that's an accidental flip, purely accidental.

Out at the driving range for a short while, can you get about 10 compression balls. With the current AM temps that would probably give me a ball I can hit, without feeling like I just hit the tee marker. We use paving stones for markers.
Taz:
Well, the only place I have the setting for a barn really would be if I could buy some of the property behind me. The other thing that can get you on the existing lot is, you can't go above the roofline of the existing house without a variance. "could" be an issue.
Frankly, from the front of my house, as long as I am below roofline, you won't even know about this project as it will all be behind my house. What I do will be in plain sight of a couple of some neighbors, and free standing buildings are a violation of restrictions. Even though I have a free standing 10 X 12 barn now. But that is not on a true foundation. It is right at the back of my property line, tucked in with the trees so it blends really well with the surroundings.
I could definitely attach a barn style building to my house, but the question is, asthetically, how that will look. Probably not to good.
If I attach to my house, other than the roofline specification, and no exposed block, the only other restriction is staying 25 feet from rear property line without a variance. With a variance, I could go however close I propose, maybe 10-15 feet would be fine.
But a couple of things,
1. I don't want to totally piss off all my neighbors, and
2. I hate for it to mess up my entire back yard flow as far as pushing things back.
I may see about buying some land from the farm behind me, and who knows, might catch them at a time where I could do that. Then again, might not, and they probably wouldn't want to destroy the squareness of the property lines. (1 corner is against my corner. Then again, not sure how their property is deeded, or if they could sell me a portion of it.
It probably makes the most sense to go up with my project over a back bedroom, then over a garage. But I didn't get much response from the first contractor about that idea. They felt it better to stay on the ground, even though done correctly, I still think that could work to solve some issues of going further and further back into the rear of the property.
The fact is, an open faced barn against the rear of my house probably makes the most sense of all space wise and cost wise. But again, the asthetics of that...

and a 1/2 day to get home, whats wrong with that, oh right he isn't a regions hydro worker so he doesn't get paid to drive around!
1 Number 6 with a side of raised roof it is. lol.
But seriously Bing, it's not really a matter of 1-6 pick. this outfit takes a basic 2 car garage, then gives you a price range for adding cars, 3 car, 4 car, then once they get to the site, and you get real specific as in get me a building with 3 car garage, living space 1 end, roof pitch 38 degrees (whatever), siding cedar, doors metal insulated, now how much? So, the bottom right is priced as a 4 car garage. just happens they put windows on one end, not a door.
that's sort of how they do it. They will not attach to house though, that part is up to you, if it has to be attached to meet restrictions. I have seen 3 foot strips of roofline tied to buildings to meet the requirement of no separate buildings.

Glad you liked it Ben, but I was sorta thinking of the Gillam guys who have to repeat the same loop 10 times a day to kill a 9 hr day minus 2 coffee breaks of unknown length and lunch of the same duration, etc. But I am an equals rights kind of guy, I'll pick on the south just as I do the north. :B :P :P
Oh yeah I have broad shoulders, I can handle it...
But you just wait... As soon as this most recent "Thompson" storm passes, I'll be right back on your case.
For now though, I can't throw any crap in the air, 'cause it would probably wind up landing on me.
Again, you guys don't get to pick a number, or building, lol. These are example projects.
Jason, you are right, I know that, I should determine, but they did make some valid points about staying below the roof tip. It would limit space in the upper level as far as a 2 story addition going over the existing bedroom. I probabaly screwed up and should have put my house up another block or two when I built it. But, part of my objectives were to minimize steps and height of things like decks. I may have went to the extreme, as I did wind up 1 block to low at the top side of house and wound up putting vent boxes in the ground.

Scooter - I'm out.
-----
Kevin - Congrats! As said above, that must be a huge relief!
-----
Doug - I like the middle left unit. Having one huge door is nice. My mother has a two car garage, and whenever I go to visit her she usually has me bringing something in/out. It would be so much nice to have a single double-width door.
That pisses me off with all the town regulations too regarding building rules on your property. Around here we have a crap load of town laws regarding the modification of houses built in the 1700s. You have to have town approval before painting/modifying anything, and some neighborhoods restrict parking cars in your driveway... they have to be in the garage to preserve an "olde-tyme country atmosphere" Please...
If it wasn't for Autumn in New England, the Red Sox, and Unions I'd be out of this part of the country!

And the difference between that and a normal day around here is?
Well, in a way it's for my protection too Nick. I do realize some restrictions can be over the top, that's for sure, my neighborhood is not so much like that. Mostly, it's pretty reasonable. I don't agree with 35 and 25 feet front and rear setbacks, I think that's to much on a lot the size I have here. It leaves you little flexibility to add on to much.
Hey, if they want an old time feel, everyone should park in the road. Around here, people didn't even have drive ways in the old time houses, they parked on the freekin road out front!
examples of our restrictions are, no more than 4 cars sitting outside. No detached buildings. (ok, we fudge on this), but then someone will abuse this, there's a building someone put in down the road, and the heatherns didn't even put foundation covers on, so you see the blocks that level it. THAT is not right. At least they can cover up the block with proper edging. Me, I used riverrock to create my own foundation look. My next door neighbor commented out great it looked. Unfortunately, I ran out on the low side, that nobody see's much, and need some stone to finish that area.

No worries, guys, I appreciate the thoughts. I've always felt that it would be inappropriate for me to air marital gripes to co-workers or in any sort of public forum, so that one thing I mentioned to you guys was just to explain why I hadn't been posting for a little bit here in TTP. Definitely not even CLOSE to the main issues that Jen and I are working through. She and I are going to be doing some work together for a while to see if we can work things out. Although I need to be respectful of her and not air out dirty laundry details, I'll at least let you guys know if all is alright. You guys are friends, and we share things with each other. We're going to stay and ride it out. Rita is jinking around right now so we're not sure how far away the eye will pass. It was moving more to the northeast than originally thought which was good for us, but the last position at 10:00 PM CDT supposedly has it bending back more westward - boo, hiss. Best case for us is that she drops to a Cat 3 or 2 before landfall and doesn't come straight up the Ship Channel from Galveston Bay. My neighbour just left, another guitarist, which brings me to the problem. 2 amps running at 30w plus who knows what effects screaming at any given time. Anyone know where I can get quality earplugs that don't affect the sound quality just the level.
Because the neighbour is going on nights I ordered his new guitar for him so it is delivered here and not wake him up during the day. Not quite sure of his choice in colour

Yes, I can land (and have!) with less runway than that, with multiple Humvee's and cargo pallets in the back. We train for it constantly.
I'd bet Chris can get that Globemaster stopped in 800' of clear runway.
I remember you posting how fast you can make it desend with it all hanging out and thrust divertors engaged (in mid-flight), I think it was the equivalent of 60 knots vertical?
Strange, post got drubbed, and went to a page that said invalid link, weird.
That's the new word of the day "Drubbed".
Chris, that's balls of steel man, really. Flying that monstrous thing.
Lastly, I said, I sort of like the baby blue Guitar.
More realistic David, would be Nick flying a 2 man open bi-plane in there to pick you up, and dusting some crops along the way. :)
You guys got the hatches battened down? Worried about you all David, really am.

Chris, sonnofagun it is too, however it should be "Be Well, Chris Dotur" <circular hand wave jesture>
David, either your really brave, or you have a strong feeling it will not affect you as badly, and staying put could be the smart thing. They were showing on the news last night the mass exodus on the interstates. People were runing out of gas due to the length of time in traffic it was taking to get out of Dodge
The Balls Chris has to pull the throttles to max reverse while FLYING takes BIG BALLS! 8O And NO I am not JOKING they do that crap on the C-17. :nonod: Sweet plane, I like the fact that they can call home on the darn plane! All we can do is a phone patch via HF radios! :nonod:
That C-17 is SWEET! I wish the Marines would buy a bunch of them! :T the only problem is the Marines need a plane that we can treat like a $2 Whore! We are...shal we say..."less than gentle" with our gear! Like when some buddies of mine landed on a Freeway in Bagdad! 8O Who needs a stinking run way? NOT us baby! :T
Chris glad to hear from you man. If you ever get gas in at the pit, shoot me an email first I got your lunch!
David- Be safe bro. Good luck!
The scary part may be Snap, they were aiming for the runway, lol. After all, they are Marines, not pilots, right? ;)
If Nick was a marine, he'd pin those wings Chris gave him right to his chest, I mean through the skin. So, wearing them or not would not be an issue.
Fuel shot up 30 cents a gallon since yesterday, here we go again, and likely worse this time. They've rumored 5.00 a gallon and lines to get any gas at all.

They're talking that our gas is about to jump as well. I'm sitting on nearly a full tank so hopefully we can ride this latest gouge out.
Keep safe David.
he Marines need a plane that we can treat like a $2 Whore!
funny, I need a two dollar whore that I can treat like an airplane, LOL.

:poke: hey that was a good poke there Lex!
But you are not allowed to "PIN" the wings on people any more. Its a :nono: You can get into BIG trouble :smackbutt:
And they were not aiming for the run way lex! :roflmao: It was actually pretty cool. It was on the news durring the invasion. US forces had not got the airport yet, so they landed on the interstate!
Just to clarify some things.....The Marines are a part of the Department of the Navy......The MEN"S Department! :roflmao:
Sorry Jim, I couldn't resist a good joke opp. :) You got to admit, that was funny.

Mornin' fellers. http://mysite.verizon.net/nicholasmosher/morning.gif
Chris - Sorry man, I have a very hectic schedule between now and the end of October. Have to cover 3wks of vacation (70hr workweeks... :java: ), fit in flight lessons, study for my FAA written, and study for my Grade 6 wastewater license. Oh, and sleep too! Are you flying into Logan or are you taking a C-17 into Westover?
-----
It would probably take me a good 2 days to make my way down to Texas in an open cockpit biplane (If I had my ticket and a tailwheel endorsement that is). Even inland Texas has some pretty good winds right now with gusts in the 50kt range. I think Chris should bring in the C-17 too!
Just finished checking out the satellite/doppler scans of the NorthEast along with the weather outlooks and my flight this morning doesn't look too hot. Winds are supposed to be pretty strong here today too with gusts in the 25kt range. Waiting for my instructor to call me... Damn! That will make five ina row! :M My instructor is leaving for a week again to bring an ailing friend out to South Dakota to see Rushmore, so if today is a no-go I won't be flying until October 3rd! :(

How is everything going David (fixed:D)? Whats the inside scoop on the situation down there?

Beautiful flying weather here, cool, crisp, frosty, calm. Winds are dead for once.
Only reason it is like this is because I am not flying anywhere. Wish I could send you some of this Nick, But if I could, the nonflyers, might get upset about temps that are close to as cold as you get in the winter. ;)

I think the Bo Sox story was the saddest sack one ever. Now that the ledgendary curse is broken, Sox fans can just be just like regular fans
Fox News did a documentary on the Marines. If you get the chance to watch it do it. "Company of Hero's" is the name. Pretty darn good. It does have a lot of live combat footage. Pretty amazing stuff.

Have a great weekend everybody!
Busy here as well, didn't get some of the things that I wanted to today, but it has been pretty productive otherwise.
BMO is going to try and approve me for their mortgage. We'll see what happens. I should find out Monday.
I'm going to look at a new Palm Z2 with the GPS package at Costco. I hear it is on special for like $300.
Going to get ready to teach my class tonight and the rest of the weekend. Should be lots of fun. We're covering the investments module and retirement module tomorrow. Exam on Sunday. :) Well for me anyway, we'll see how much people studied this week.

And I just don't get that. Who the heck sits in bumper-to-bumper traffic and leaves their engine idling while they sit at dead stop for 30 minutes? Stupid.
Be Well, Bing Fung! You inspire Joy-Joy feelings in everyone around you. :)
As for my C-17, yes, if we deploy the thrust reversers in flight, we can achieve a maximum descent rate of 20,000 feet per minute. I guess I haven't done the math, but lets see... 6,000 feet is 1 NM, so you're going 3.33 NM/min, which is 200 NM/hour (200 knots) just in the vertical plane down towards the ground! That would be probably the equivalent of Nick flying one of the planes he's getting his license in, shutting off the engine, pointing it straight down towards the ground, and accelerating to maximum aircraft speed. :)
As for calling home, well obviously we have to use everything for official business only, but yes, we do have satellite telephone capabilities. Mostly we use it for command and control capabilities, calling back to headquarters in the states while we're around the world.
