Send the 1080 to your brother Paul. :B
aud19
09-15-2005, 07:49 PM
You're forgetting about the 1080.... Or should I just send that too?
Oh yeah I just assumed that was included :B  Actually Paul could probably have the 1095, to go with the 1098 ;) I'll take the 1080, DCT6200 and 601's for som rear surrounds :P (Edit: Oh and the Behringer)The sub and Bryston's would be too big and heavy to ship all the way here. Maybe Greg could pick those up with the TV!
The 603's you can decide who they go to :T :B
Bing Fung
09-15-2005, 08:19 PM
I could disassemble the 603s and put them in a wall
Hey guys....just got power and internet. almost 2 days with no power. Lost it Wed at 1PM and got it back just a few minutes ago. I guess it is not 2 days. but it seems like it.
Lots of down trees in my yard. Lots of people still with out power. Some friends have trees in thier living room! 8O Other than that all is well. Got to go into work tomorrow, and then this weekend is CLEAN UP!
Thanks Lex for the post asking about me. Sorry to hear about your Mom. We will be praying for you.
Well lots of stuff to do, just thought I would drop in and say that me and the family survived.
Blessed!

Hi Guys!:later:
Sorry to hear about the misfortunes Doug!
Hope things get better.
Nice Bikes Bing and Shane..
I bought a Dunlop 777 last year.
I really like it. plus get to use it a lot
since I have been riding quite abit with the
girls.
Well, I didn't calculate my Piston count,
but my groin action has to be worth about 10 alone! :hump: :alol:
Canadian Idol ended the way I was hoping.
Glad it is over though. This years show just had
to much cheese factory throughout the season.
Last night, when the Saskatoon creep was back on stage,
I was hoping somebody would have come across and kicked
him in the nuts while he was singng..
That's just how annoying he was and is. :nutkick:

Bing - Going with a micro audio setup?!? :smackbutt:
I can understand swapping out your RPTV for a Plasma and going with great monitors instead of towers, but just thinking about running a micro audio setup with an all-in-one source/receiver makes me shiver... 8O
-----
Doug - Hope your troubled waters calm down and everyone makes it through ok (including you).
-----
You guys have some pretty fancy bikes!
I've had zero ambition the past couple days.
Roasted a young turkey and made some fixings to go along. Put it all in my 'fridge for dinners over the next few days. My apartment smells great... I love fall in New England...
Check out the new Shun Ken Onion 8" Chef's Knife...
http://www.chopontheblock.com/images/products/dm0500_450px.jpg
EDIT:
Jason - I'm really leaning towards the M notebook now due to the graphics chipset it comes with. Checked out the Fujitsu and Toshiba laptops, but neither offer an equivalent unit that is even remotely close in performance to the Sager unit I posted. Not sure why I should pay more for less...

Morning Gang & Trev :later:
Nick, Looks nice :T I like the name of that knife Shun Ken Onion 8"
I tell ya Nick, if you can you should have a look at the Mac's. I have never used a knife that is as sharp yet solid as that Santoku. It literally falls through carrots, potatoes, tomatoes. Never have I been able to cut things as thin as I can with this knife. I accidentally, lightly touched the blade one time and it shaved 3-5 microns of my skin off
In fact this thing is so nice to use I find I have been cutting way more food than I need, because I just can't stop using it. Christine laughs at me saying she finds the same thing, she just wants to keep cutting too. It really cuts stuff much faster, easier and cleanly :E
The metal blade has this really cool "ting" sound to at times 8) The rockered blade makes fine chopping fast and simple. The knife really makes me feel I'm a much better cook than I am ;) Who would think a knife could change so much  I would have never thought it either...
Hey, I like microsystems :yesnod:
Well guys...got a ton of work to do this weekend. I have about 18 inches of pine straw in all my rain gutters. 8O I have a whole section of roof that is totally covered with tree branches, and pine straw. So when it drys off I will be cleaning all the gutters and removing the branches from the roof.
4 trees are down in my yard, thank God nothing actually hit my house so I am greatfull for that.
The sucky thing about this strom is that we got the left side of the eye wall for 13 hours! Normally you get the eye, it sucks then it is calm till the back side of the eye comes over. We were right on the left side of the eye the whole freeking time. Well Morehead City was, we are 15 miles away.
All in all I think that NC did pretty well. The Gov of NC was not playing around. He came on TV, and told every one Tuesday night. "Get out!" (of the evacuated areas) If you need help getting out let us know and we will help you. If YOU choose to stay and you are with out power for days, or you call 911 and no one answers. EDIT Finished From Before: "It is one You!
well got to run.....graduation to attend. Will post more later....

Hey Snapper, good to hear it's not so bad in the grand scheme of things
Glad the damage seems superficial Jim. I can imagine it's still created quite a lot of work for you guys, and I am sure more misfortune for a lot of people like where trees fell on houses, or worse.
I went to eat salads with Mom last night. It's a chick filet thing. I get the Southwest grilled chicken salad with tortilla chips, and she gets the grilled chicken. Then we top it off with a chick filet soft serve ice cream to go. :) Mom seemed ok last night spirit wise though we did have some discussion about kimberly's situation. She won't know anything for 5-6 days about what's going on with her health. So, we have to wait and see, hope and pray, and keep going.
Had another small catastrophe last night, well, we will call it a build up, something I found that made me extremely upset. My daughter's dog had been rather freely using the bathroom in my daughter's room. Now pee stain is one thing, I can deal with that. But multiple piles of poo left behind to become petrified, is totally inacceptable. I'm not going to get my head of steam up over this this morning, but there's a serious conversation coming.
Last night as soon as my daughter got there, I was tired, wasn't feeling great, so I told her to pick that ALL up, I'd already put some cleaner on the pee spots, but I left the poo for her. If it is not gone when I get home today, s.... hits the fan. I was calm, I told her this was not going to fly, that I expected this picked up TONIGHT. Then I let it go for the night.
I told her I was not going to live like that, she was going to do better. I gave Kiwi a good yelling at last night over it too and told her she was going to do better. Not sure she understood, but I am guessing she did. She did beg for my forgiveness, so I did forgive her, then she napped on my chest while I watched a little TV, then fell asleep while Bush was on. Then went to bed at 11. During the event of cleaning and yelling, I'll say my blood pressure was 1000 over 1000 probably.
Thanks guys for all the well wishes and sentiments.

*Edit* Got it....
Chick-fil-AŽ Southwest Chargrilled Salad
Slices of spicy grilled chicken breast on a fresh blend of Romaine and Iceberg lettuce, with shredded red cabbage and carrots, vine-ripened grape tomatoes, a roasted corn and black bean relish, and a subtle blend of Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses. Served with tortilla strips and spicy dressing.

Now I just need to find out how to make a Corn & Black Bean Relish :scratchhead:
Bing Fung
09-16-2005, 11:12 AM
Corn and Black Bean Relish
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cups cooked fresh or thawed frozen corn kernels
1 cup cooked black (turtle) beans
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
3 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Close enough
I believe they also have a little green pepper or something like that in there for HEAT. It must be from the relish as you dont' see much of it. Did you google the relish? lol.
Bing Fung
09-16-2005, 11:21 AM
Your taste buds are correct Lex, poblano chilies, red bell peppers are some of the ingredients in the Chick Fil-A listing.
I did google it recipe above

I've tried Santokus before, but they're too short for me, and with the nearly flat edge it doesn't rock like a curved chefs knife does for chopping/mincing. Alot of people like 'em, but they're just not for me. I'm liking the design of this new Shun though. Damn, I was planning on buying HT chairs this month. Maybe I'll buy one chair and this knife, then I'll get two more chairs next month. If anyone comes over they can use my comfy desk chair. Visitors in excess of 1 will have to make do with kitchen chairs... I think I'm going to order one next week. I dunno, have to think about it. I only have enough cash for 2chairs anyways... been putting more money into my "flying fund" than I originally planned. Too bad we're getting all this crap weather now :(
Mmmmmmm... Porterhouse's are my favorite cuts. 1" thick slabs marinated in Lea n' Perrins and cracked black peppercorns then grilled Rare/Medium-Rare over charcoal. Pair with a mature Cabernet Sauvignon and you have one of life's simple pleasures... Whats a friggen' vegetable? :oh:
http://beeffoodservice.com/Default.aspx
-----
Oh boy, don't have much pep today. I've been laying off the Porterhouses over the past couple months, keeping my daily calories around 1500. I think I'm having Porterhouse withdrawals! Fortunately my beverage of choice is S.Pellegrino, so I consume 0cal when kicking back to some mineral fizz (aka carbonated italian toilet water... ).

:laughat: Sorry Snap ;)
Nick, I was not directing you to the Santoku as you already stated it's not your type of knife, rather Mac Knives in general. I tell you, this Mac Santoku is sharper than our Henckels Twin Chef ever was. The Mac Santoku is also not a traditional Santoku in that the bottom is rockered rather than flat. This really allows for fast chopping and mincing. The knife edge is at an exterme 15 degree angle because the blade is thinner. Our 8.5 Henckles Chef knife is flatter & thicker and now feels like a canoe paddle in your hand compared to the Mac
http://www.htguide.com/forum/attachment.php4?attachmentid=4204
Trust me, you will not find a finer knife than a Mac, regardless of price :yesnod: But it is your knife and that is a personal thing independant of actual cutting edge. I'm just so astounded and excited about this knife, I'm just want to let others know of it ;)
Ok all this talk about knives, I just thought I would show you all my cooking knives.
The first one would be my all purpose knife. Chopping, Cutting, Fending off terrorist (oh sorry back to cooking)

The Spyderco factory is about 20 miles from me. Several times a year they open the factory to sell their seconds and other stuff at amazing discounts (40-50% off). If there's something someone wants give me a holler, I'll checkout what they have. Note that it's not big deal to mail them to Canada.
FWIW: Spyderco has a special offer for members of their forum. This offer ends Sept 19th.

IMO, the coolest kitchen knife on the planet is the Kyocera Zirconia Ceramic. They cost $250 in 1984 when they premiered at an industrial show I attended in Kyoto.... 8O

Bing,
I couldn't find a pic of the knife sold in 1984. It was a sushi/suhimi knife with natural wood handle (no rivets) and was a limited edition offering. It was literally the first ceramic knife ever made. The blade looked like black diamond and was astoundingly sharp (scarely sharp).
No evidentally they never loose their edge, but I know they can shatter if dropped on a hard surface.
Unfortunately in those days $250 was BIG money for me so sadly I had to pass on buying one......
BTW: here's the closest thing I can find to it now, notice the price.... 8O 8O 8O

Yeah, I seen that one and said WOW! :E :E
Did you see that knife Nick? Its a 8.25" single-edge sashimi knife, perfect for your Sushi delights :)
I have read that you can't pry with ceramics and you do have to be careful around bones as they can shatter as you say. The tips of a ceramic knife is the most prone to breakage.
Still, it is a beautiful knife to be sure. When I was shopping for the Santoku for Christine, I had looked at the Kyocera as well.

Bing!, When did you become Ukranian? :)
Here is a good one!
The Power of the Sub-Conscious Mind
A woman comes home and tells her husband, "Remember those headaches
I've been having all these years? Well, they're gone."
"No more headaches?" the husband asks, "What happened?"
His wife replies, "Margie referred me to a hypnotist. He told me to stand
in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat 'I do not have a
headache;
I do not have a headache, I do not have a headache.' It worked!
The headaches are all gone." The husband replies, "Well, that is
wonderful."
His wife then says, "You know, you haven't been exactly a ball of fire in
the bedroom these last few years. Why don't you go see the hypnotist and
see if he can do anything for that?"
The husband agrees to try it.
Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes,
picks up his wife and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed
and says, "Don't move, I'll be right back."
He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later and jumps
into bed and makes passionate love to his wife like never before.
His wife says, "Boy, that was wonderful!"
The husband says, "Don't move! I will be right back." He goes back into
the bathroom, comes back and round two was even better than the first time.
The wife sits up and her head is spinning.
Her husband again says, "Don't move, I'll be right back."
With that, he goes back in the bathroom. This time, his wife quietly
follows him and there, in the bathroom, she sees him standing at the
mirror and saying,
"She's not my wife. She's not my wife. She's not my wife!"

Classic, this one is!!
Two blonde guys were working for the city works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in.
They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one guy digging a hole, the other guy filling it in again.
An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting into your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"
The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-man team. But today the guy who plants the trees called in sick.

Man I rather enjoyed that video.....that was like the drama of the year. Better battle sequences and pathos than a lot of movies I've seens.
Don't F&*% with the hornets man 8)
The honey bees are stupid....instead of retreating to inside the colony and forcing the hornets to attack within.....they meet them in the open air (which is where they get picked off). If the hormets had to face the colony within the hive I bet they'd have a harder time winning.
Still that was a cool find :T

Bing - There are so many great brands of knives out there, it's kinda presumptuous to say one brand is the best. I did take a look at the Mac knives, and they certainly are quite nice! I want something that is balanced, comfortable in my hand (wide/contoured handle), double sided, un-scalloped, and having roughly the characteristics of a traditional eight-inch chef's knife. Multi-purpose (not a single forged piece or too great a rockwell rating), and easily cleanable are also up there on the importance list.
Those Kyocera Ceramic knives are pisser! The Kyotop line is the cream of the crop. Unfortunately with the supersharp ultra-hard ceramic comes very low elasticity. They can chip when cutting/breaking bones, and if you drop it theres a good chance it can fracture. They also don't offer an 8" chef's variant.
I dunno, still undecided. I tried out some of the popular ones the other week including the 8" offerings from Wusthof, Lamson, and Henckels but none offered everything I was looking for. They all seemed like great knives with better balance and increased hardness over my current eight-inch CK, but just didn't hit 100% with me.
The new Shun offering has everything I'm looking for except a seamless handle (which makes for easier cleaning). I'm trying to convince myself not to buy it, but can't come up with any reasons beyond the above. It will also give me a chance to hold and use it (shhh!) in home before deciding whether or not to keep it.

Bing - There are so many great brands of knives out there, it's kinda presumptuous to say one brand is the best.
I agree Nick, that's why I said "you will not find a finer knife than a Mac, regardless of price". I never said it's the best for that would be presumptuous :P . What I meant is, at this point of the game no one knife is actually better or superior, they're all good, it'll all come down to personal preferences. I'm just very impressed with the Mac, (more than I would have imagined). It's unbelievable how easily this thing cuts and I just didn't want you missing out. Holding a knife and waving it around is one thing, actually cutting things and feeling it's blade characteristics during use, changes everything :) I have never used a knife that feels so good to use, and would not have thought it could have felt so great had I played with it in the store. I bought it sight unseen based on reviews.
Good luck with your choice, I'm sure you'll be as happy as we are :T

Watched "Crash" last night. Was kind of an interesting show .
Bing me and the misses watched Feaver Pitch durring the Hurricane. It was a good flick. Saw "Lord of War" last night in the theater. I was so pissed. Once again leading me to ask why I even go to the theater. The projector was going bad. You know the screen that says, "the following preview is rated PG or R" or what ever? The screen is "supposed to be bright GREEN with white letters. It was so dark, that it was almost brown! Every time there was a night scean you could NOT make out the faces! Just sucked!
I talked to the manager and he showed me a whole bunch of new equipment on the floor and said the Technician was supposed to install it last Wed, but the storm. :nonod: So he said either watch it dark, or get your money back. All the other movies had started already....so we stuck it out.
As for the movie itself..... :1: maybe :15: I think part of my problem is I thought the movie was going to be TOTALLY different than it was. So I guess I got let down. :nonod:

Bummer about the Movie Theater Snap. Good of you to point out to the manager how it should be done :D
So many times at our Rainbow Cinema (cheap seats) I always want to go adjust the sound levels and quality. The Images are fine, but man the volume levels are lacking at times.
Fever Pitch was funny, and for some strange reason Drew was more appealing than I ever thought she was.... :) Christine fell asleep before the end, however thats no surprise, she falls asleep before the end of every movie we watch. Katherine and I tease her about this all the time :smackbutt:

Fever Pitch was definetly a like it or leave it film. The only reason why I enjoyed it so much was for the Red Sox humor. To a non-fan, the movie probably seemed like a corny date movie. My apartment also has atleast one piece of memorabilia in each room... :T By the way, Red Sox won again last night (but so did the Yanks! ).
Tomorrow I'm supposed to hit the flea market and mall. Going to pick up some books/DVDs to work on my guitar skills (or lack there of I should say).
Damn! No flying until tuesday :M I've only flown 2hrs this month due to weather, and now we're due for the tail end of that storm that nailed Snap.
Still chowing turkey and sides that I whipped up the other day. Some people get sick of leftover turkey the second day. I can easily eat it for a week no prob! :eating:
EDIT: I heard this morning that Boston and it's suburbs is now the most expensive place in the US to live, followed by San Francisco, New York, and Honolulu. I need to get the $%&@ out of this area (thinking of the Pacific North West). A decent (small) house in my town is now up around US$250k-$300k. Thats friggen' crazy for a patch of grass with a cement hole and pile of wood! I'm still a good 80mi from Boston too! Living inside the Interstate 495 belt (~30mi radius about Boston) will run you a half-mil for a dilapidated shanty (minimum). Maybe once I get my commerical ticket I'll look for a place to move out Jason's way (but still on the south side of the fence ;)).
Bing Fung
09-17-2005, 10:08 AM
Nick, I could relate to the humor in the show of what it's like to be a Boston Fan. It reminded me of the last time Christine and I were in Boston. We were walking along the old "Boston Gaaaden" and Fleet Centre. I said to Christine "What a Dump!" referring to the old Garden She punched me and said "Shhhhh, you'll offend a lot of people by saying that"
Anyway, we went to Bruins vs Panther Stanley Cup play off game and the fans there were incredible. One Bostonian was lamenting to me how since they moved from the Gaaaden to the Fleet how they just can't seem to win. I was reminded of that while watching Fever Pitch. The fans all talk to you like you're family and their love hate devotion to their teams is same as in the show. I didn't get to see a game at Fenway, but I did tour the park. You can sense the Hallowed ground that it is, and why it is known as the Greatest place to watch a ball game.

Bing- What I need to do is go to all the CRAPPY theaters around here and say...how about I calibrate your system, for some free movie passes. It is like they just turned everything up or down. The "nice" theater in Jacksonville charges 9 bucks to get in. Plus 15 bucks for a drink and popcorn! 8O
The place Looks really nice. New seats, pretty walls, etc. But the SOUND is TERRIBLE! The last time I was there saw "Constant Gardner" and 2 of the Subs were blown! I kept getting up and trying to get the manager to just unplug the stupid things. FINALLY he heard it, and said...."yeah sounds like they are blown!" No Crap!
Come to find out after the movie...I stuck around....one was just blown the heck up! Push on the woofer just a bit, and SCRATCH CRUNCH Scrape! The other one, some one I guess stuck thier foot through the woofer.
Either way... I was very mad to listen to crappy sound the whole time.
So I went back and they put metal cages around the subs so that people will not kick them in...only problem....THEY RATTLE LIKE IT IS COOL! Just got up went to the manager...."Money back please!" and LEFT!
Oh yeah the theater down the road that we go to the most....Radio Shack Optima Speakers! 8O Yeah baby talk about some good sound! 8O I think I would rather listen to the Bose Wave radio then those things.....
But alas....my wife likes the "date" got to the movie thing....so.....we continue to spend our hard earned money.

Bing - Boston, now being the most expensive city to live (in the US) also happens to be rated as the best sports city. Chicago comes in at a distant second (aacording to Sports Illustrated). Nick, Fenway is awesome and I felt better for it! Although I did not see the Sox play there, when we left Boston, we stopped in Toronto for the weekend and we seen the Sox play the Jays at Skydome. It was an OK game, however a bit boring as the Jays walked away with it 11 to 2, or something like that.

LOL! I wonder how that guy "aquired" all that gear? Sounds like he either got a great deal or a great deal... :oh:
-----
I've been dreaming up an ultra-efficient car design for awhile, but it will take some serious time investment that I'm not willing to reserve. I also want something without a top too though for summer. Haven't gotten many specs on motorcycle engine efficiencies, but I wanted to make a tube framed vehicle with a composite skin powered by a 500cc-1L motor. I originally wanted to make a reverse-trike, use the single wheeled motorcycle drivetrain in the rear with traditional two wheel stability in the front. I was even considering making it a two-seater by having one seat behind the other with a "cab-forward" type design taking advantage of the mid engine lending a "spacious" interior. in such a small cabin, I could simply use a small element/blower type heater too for moisture battle/cool days. The three wheel design also reduces friction for better mileage. Definetly not a winter design though...
Of course I could always get the above metro in convertible form, but it weighs 150lbs more, reducing efficiency and not quite the fun that a convertible should have...
Changed my mind btw, I think I'm going to look for a first generation (90-94) 2-dr Geo Metro. 49bhp to shred the tires with more efficient gears lends a rated 53/58mpg! 8O Sounds like a fun project... :D

Taz - You said you recommend the Dummy book/DVD for learning guitar basics right? This book I have now has taught me to play a bunch of songs, but it doesn't actually teach me any fundamentals. I want a great foundation to build from.
taz13
09-17-2005, 06:32 PM
Nick
Where are you going with guitar? That determines your foundation that you need to learn. example would be classical guitar is a completely different foundation then a rythm guitar player would have, mind you a lead guitar will have the same understanding of the fret board.
Let me know that and I will see if I can point you at a specific set of books. However for basics and putting together what you learn, I do like the dummies series. The first teaches basics in a lot of different styles with tips and tricks and lets you learn 3 different ways of reading guitar music. The book comes with a cd that lets you hear what it should sound like. The rock version is just pointed a playing rock.
What I try playing is rythm and also play with 4 chord rock and 3 chord blues. I am trying to learn how to "shuffle" properly.
Yeah that makes sence tazz. What about D Drums? Are they a lot of money?? I have seen a set of those and they look pretty cool. But then again, if you just want to jam then what you are looking at might just be the right idea.

I like damn near every type of music except modern country.

I had a Suzuki Forsa in University which was essentially a Chec Spint with the same engine etc. Anyway it was utter crap. Sure the milage was good but two engines and three clutches later i was spending more in parts then gas! It was also way to small and light for our winters and forget about the heater. I vowed after owning that car to never own anything that small again....and mine was the 4 door version.

My approach to most things in life is to learn a little bit of everything. Then get guitar for dummies as it will get you to touch on all types of picking playing and reading. But most of all, have fun with it.
Snap
If I really intended on learning, I would probably invest more. But for stress relief and also the included drum, bass and rythm machine are decent. Rotel for Sony, Sounds like a decent trade.:P

Still trying to clean up my books/magazines and pare down my DVD/CD collection. The turkey is gone too, so I'm making up a batch of Sushi Rice. Picked up some sprouts, scallions, and avocados. Thawed out some Bluefin Tuna, Fresh Water Eel, Crab Cake, and Fish Roe for a Maki lunch/Dinner...
Someone dropped off a bag of Original Flavor Starburst in my Mailbox. Everyone knows it's my favorite candy, and it's one of those things I have zero will power for if it's in my apartment. Lots of downsides to those sprayers and some upsides. Don't paint when windy, unless you or your neighbour were looking for that speckle effect on your car. Can be a pain to clean, latex wears out parts faster then oil, has atendency to spit if you tip it to much. Now having said the bad things about them, I always have one in my arsenal as well as a spare rebuild kit. What they do well they do very well. Go look at what the house of tools has for cheap hvlp sprayers.

Doug - A fish slurpee... I wonder if thats an option at the 7-11's in Kyoto?
-----
Taz - I can't wait to start diving into it some more. I'm going to start with my "For Dummies" book this week. Music is something I never got into during school. I tried the Sax in 4th grade, but didn't have the lungs for it at that age. It kinda discouraged me, and I never tried anything again until high school when I got a Peavey Raptor for Christmas. No lessons or books, so I just wailed on it. Didn't know what effect pedals were either, so I just cranked my amp to the max to get the distortion sound. I learned a couple Nirvana tunes but I cooked a couple amps and then stopped playing because I couldn't afford another one! Now I'm using a simple Ibanez Dreadnought cheapie acoustic to learn with. Does the job nicely though. Its kinda natural and pure. I do miss the sustain capabilities of an electric though...
http://www.guitar4ever.net/images/IbanezPF5%202.jpg
Going to do alot of learning with this cheap-o Ibanez. Then maybe I'll get the Strat/25ft^2 of Pedals/Skull Tattoo/Etc..
Nick, so how was the slurpee? LOL.
I'd love to have a beautiful electric guitar someday to tinker with. A starburst Les Paul would be nice. :) Maybe a Firebird.
I never enjoyed accoustic to much, maybe my cheap accoustic was just to difficult to play, I dunno. So, I quit. But now, I don't have time for it, maybe someday...

I just ordered a grilled chicken salad from the sandwich shop nextdoor. I decided to pass on the 7-11 Tuna Tornado... :P Talk about a challenge to willpower, this shop next door is constantly cooking up stuff like Fried Fish and loads of Gyros (they're Greek), so every day around noon and five thats all I smell if I have my windows open. The Bastards...
I'm trying to make more time for learning. Theres so many things I want to do/learn, that sometimes I have to keep myself focused on actually learning things rather than searching for more things to learn about. Getting rid of my cable (ie Food TV) was one thing that has helped me devote more time to learning. Right now I'm spending all my time on studying for my PP-ASEL. I'm almost finished with that studying, so I'll be spending more time on other things.
1. Playing Guitar.
2. Instrument/Commercial Materials for taking the next step in Aviation.
3. Reviewing my books/CDs on Spanish, and trying to go further with that.
I also want to review my differential/integral calculus text, and start getting deeper into physics. I really loved Chemistry/Physics in college, and would like to learn more, especially physics... the mother science.
Have to bone up on wastewater treatment again too. Taking a couple seminars to refresh in November, as I'm going for the highest license grade you can test for (I have a grade 5, and I'm going for a 6). It will give me a boost in wages equivalent to $2k/yr. After another 3-5yrs of work, I'll also be eligible to apply for the Grade 7 which is the highest you can go in the state of Mass (and another $2k/yr raise). Just a bunch of memorization of state laws/basic algebraic equations/and some chemistry. Hopefully I'll be into the aviation industry by then though. I'm getting bored with fixing pumps and doing labwork... :|
My dream job would be to travel all around the world as a pilot/interpreter for some wealthy bastard and/or politician.

And a cheap drag everywhere I go acoustic.
http://www.htguide.com/forum/attachment.php4?attachmentid=4361&stc=1
These are my main disturbers of the piece. I use a 30w 2ch berhinger GX110ultraroc amp which has most effects built in. 1 per channel usable.
Also now have an in house vocalist, my poodle sings along. As he has the right pitch and tempo i let him howel along. :)

As I was driving on portage ave this afternoon I passed a few exotic cars that I don't often see...one was a beautiful NSX, another was a vintage Camaro that was in mint shape but what really got my attention was the lamborghini...at least it sure looked like one. It could have been a kit as it was going the other direction and I didn't get that good a look at it but hot damn it was hard to miss being bright yellow in color.

 on When I signed up for the miltary one of the benifits was health care. But what we just found out is that Dental for your dependants is only 50% :( So that means I have to come up with 1500 bucks to get my wifes wisdom teeth removed! off
Shane,
When I was in the middle east we did have computers and stuff that we were able to send emails and stuff on. But they have a LOT of sites locked out. Like no hotmail, or yahoo mail. No Chat rooms etc. The other thing is....if there is an operation or something like that....they turn off the computers as to limit leaks of intel. People even in the miltary do not realize that small comments will give stuff away. People trying to tell thier loved ones that they will not be able to email for a few days etc. All that sort of stuff seems innocent, but to the enemy they now know that something is fixing to happen. So the military some times for no reason other than to throw people off base they just turn off the email and stuff to keep the bad guys guessing. We would loose internet and email all the time out there. Some times we knew...some times it was just down.

Get this chant going through your head, Dedicated HVLP system. You can paint indoors, outdoors, wherever you want with full control of overspray. Spend some extra and buy a dedicated HVLP system. The first time you lay down a perfect coat of paint on an interior wall, you will know why they are so good.
Bing Fung
09-19-2005, 01:29 PM
You are right Jason :T
Taz, so a HVLP system actually replaces a roller indoors? :scratchhead: That seems a bit excessive and inconvenient. A roller on a long handles seems easier to use than trying to spray walls that are 15 feet high.
I got an initial phone estimate on a 2 car garage (small 2 car unfortunately) I am somewhat constrained if this is a straight section to about 18 feet deep with and a bedroom added on, making the total length about 36-38 feet long. I did actually just have a thought in this regard that could make this better, but I could not afford with these people! This outfit came up with the number of $47,000 and that does not include garage insulation or sheetrock! I was a bit sticker shocked. I am sure it is not bricked all the way either.
I may have to wind up contracting it out myself once I get a good plan established. On the bright side, we are getting a home Depot within 1.5 miles of my house finally. Well, unfortunately, it's a few months off. Right next to Wallys. Before now, since they closed a smaller lowes store, I had to drive at least 30 minutes to go to Lowes or the Depot. We are scheduled to get a Lowes too across the street and up the road a piece. Depot will likely be my preferred store for most things since Lowes did abandon us before. Now of course, as soon as one of the stores gets wind the other one is going in, they both want in.
Frankly, I think it's a dumb move myself, I'd at least have aimed further out to Seymour had I been them. But hey, it's my gain if I stay where I am at. :T

I just was shown this one for practice. Pick a starting fret, my buddy uses 5 (I use 9). Place your 1st finger on the 1st string, 2nd finger 1 fret over and up. I end up (finger/fret/string) 1/9/1, 2/10/2, 3/11/3 4/12/4. strum the 4 strings and make them ring clear. Now move the 1st finger down to the 8th and strum. Then 2nd down to the 9th and so on. The object is clarity not speed. Builds strength and flexibility (pain too!). Go as far down the neck as you can. This is a jazz finger warm up. normally the first done
Just to move this along a little as well.

You can get titanium fittings on some. As well Rainsong makes a 100% graphite acoustic. I know the Rainsong sounds great, but have never heard a carbon fibre guitar. I would like to though.
The biggest thing to remember about stringed instruments though, is that they are just there to support the strings. Carbon fibre should allow great sustain and never change no matter how old it gets.

(I'm awaiting calls for three jobs that don't include Thompson).
I can't fully recomend any X-10 stuff - I managed to get reliability with mine, but I had to sacrifice a pig in the rain, as well as promise my soul to Keith Richards.
But I've been looking into the Lutron Spacer System (not just the spacer dimmer), and it's slightly bigger brother, the Graphic Eye. The Spacer System allows scenes with fixed ramp rates, but for a few dollars more with the Graphic Eye, you can have such fancy touches as controlled rate dimming too. All controlled/driven by an applied Digital Ocelot, of course.

Morning guys! http://mysite.verizon.net/nicholasmosher/morning.gif
Morning all. Bing, at least finally you are getting something for all your trouble. I hope this is a better unit.
I called a place about a garage that sells off of pre-constructed models locally, and modifies buildings/prices according to plan, and he said typically a 2 car garage for 12-17000. I know this place builds a pretty decent garage, as they've been around a while. www.gbtinc.com
In fact, I may investigate just having the garage and bedroom built as a free standing building, then connect it to my house with like a breezeway or maybe a sun room like. My subdivision technically does not allow free standing buildings, though we've skated by with separate out utility buildings. I think I was the second person to put a barn in, now like 6-7 people have buildings behind their house. I will say, mine is put in and looks the probably the best and most natural looking of all the others with my partial wooded back. You have to have something for it to blend with, to make it look like it fits.
Lot space could be an issue for the project though.
Bing Fung

Denny's Barrel and Pub has recently upped the ante from an 6 lb Hamburger to a 15 lb job
http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com/DSCN5122.jpg
Well, we sort of acted as contractor on my house, but that was with my Dad as the General, and an on site officer as well. The on site officer handled the day to day, and getting the subs mostly, took the quotes to the General, and he said yeah or ney. I wasn't to involved in that aspect. They kept me busy buying stuff, selecting stuff for the house, etc... I did do some design stuff though.
I've considered doing that part myself, and I may yet. But you'd be hard pressed to save much on a garage at 12-17000. These guys build so many of them, a crew is in, a crew is out, that it's difficult to beat their economies of scale without doing all the labor yourself, which I have neither the time or knowledge to do really. Oh, I could I guess, but it would be difficult without a helper.
I am thinking shop/storage and car space Bing. there will be another classic in my future if I can hang onto my cash without my daughter squandering it all for me and she needs some space. If I build her a bedroom, I may take her bedroom for my cable shop. I'm way out of room, something has to give.

Having trouble keeping focused today. I want to do some reading on hydroponics and indoor growing. No, not for growing illegal substances, but for maintaining an herb garden (again not of certain "herbs" inherent to what normally is associated with hydroponics). I couldn't even get a bunch of Basil today at the market, it was all black and abused. It's too cold here to supply myself year 'round with outdoor plants, and even though my small apartment has eleventy-hundred windows, none of them see direct sunlight for very much of the day due to awesome shade provided by maples and pines (which is nice except for growing plants).
