I have a feeling this might be a wild one. No better yet, a Battle Royale cage match!

O.K., I am sure many of us have watched wrestling on TV at some point in our lives. Who are your favorite wrestlers of all time?????????

I'll leave out some obvious ones for now but how about....

Pampero Firpo
Baron Von Raschke
King Kong Brody
Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka

O.K. fellas, time to chime in!!!

Fritz Von Erich

Hey David...I knew I could count on you! And how would I have known you'd pick one of the stars from the Southern circuit. In all, how many Von Erich's were there and didn't most of them die tragic deaths?

David Meek

I lost touch with wrestling a long time ago, but yes there were several (three or four) sons of his that all died early and badly. TV wrestling was a black 'n white-desperate-for-something-to-watch-after-rollerderby activity for me as a pre-teen back before cable. Jeez, I'm dating myself aren't I? :B

Roller Derby.....ouch....we may need to get a thread going on that one too

David Meek

Heh, it was funny. There'd be all these guys prancing around the ring and in would come Fritz with his "claw" hold and paralyze (supposedly - wink, wink) them all.

jimmyp58
05-08-2005, 12:16 AM
You mean he really didn't paralyze them??? ;)

I have not watched wrestling in many years, but like many of us it was a part of my early and teen years.A couple of the highlights....they once had it outdoors at Fenway park. The ring was set-up right on the pitcher's mound, with the Green Monster in the back ground.I remember it well because my buddies and I hopped over the railing for ringside seats...and Victor Riveria had a huge gash on his forehead and blood poured down his face. But he somehow pulled out a "dramatic" win over the Iron Sheik.
Also,my uncle took me to Madison sq.garden to see Bruno comeback and defeat
Baron Migel Sicluna ?? from the Isle of Malta ,of course.Even after beating Bruno with the ring bell he was whipped. Those "comebacks" were something else.
My favorites...George " the animal" Steele...did that guy have more back hair than anyone in history,or what?? And is it true he was a jr.high principal?
Jimmy "superfly" Snuka....a few years back,I was up in the middle of the night and channel surfing.I came across what appeared to be a high school gym with guys wrestling...and there was the superfly. He was not highflying, had a pot belly and looked as if he had seen many rough roads. All in all it was sad.

Good one Pat...Dick The Bruiser. But hey, do you remember his cousing?

Hint, he claims to have made Milwaukee famous.

Patt
05-14-2005, 01:36 PM
(made Milwaukee famous) rings a bell, but I'm drawing a blank on that one.

Dicks ring announcer...cant remember his name...I worked in his home a few times.
Hot that day & his wife brought me glass of cold water to quench my thirst. I sort of accidently broke her $80.00 crystal goblet....lol.

Hey Pat....does Da Crusher ring a bell?!

The Crush is still around and I still see him from time to time. His grandson recently lost his wrestling match for the State title.

By the way, I think the guy you might be thinking of is either Marty O'Neil or Roger Kent.

Those are some dandies too. I remember Haystacks Calhoun well. At one time he teamed up with a guy by the name of Man Mountain Mike. That was 1/2 ton in the ring --- just them!

Alaric

What , nobody remembers Dory Funk Jr. ? I think they got banned (blackballed?) from wrestling for getting in bar fights and doing REAL damage to people , but it's been a looooooong time so the memory isn't clear.
