Friendly Skies Chris 8)

Lex, sorry I should have said when using the camera in Portrait mode, you know, orientated up and down???

http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/5700b.jpg

http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/5700e.jpg

The external battery pack has a built in hand grip along the bottom with a shutter release and a Zoom control (circled in red).

It really feels better for my Large hands with the external pack, as I find the camera *slightly* cramped with out it. Still it feels good, but it just feels and looks meaner with the extra pack

I mean this thing is pretty tiny for what it packs....

http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/inhand.jpg

Photo from Dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com)

I bought 2 Lithium Ion battery packs for the camera for use with out the external pack, however the external pack uses 6AA's which I though would be handy as well in a pinch.

Christine is liking this camera, she read the entire manual and played with it all night.

Well, that's it for me folks.. Have a good night all!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving all my American friends! :later:

Ahh, excellent "Nikon for dummies" analysis Bing. that's pretty cool. I picked up an extra battery pack so I always keep one on charge. Works pretty well that way. But I do see what you mean about the extra pack. Yes, it is a pretty small camera.

Chris, good turkish flip. :)

Lex, "Nikon for dummies" Well I certainly didn't intend it as that :)

Thanks Andrew... I was wanting an DSLR, however this will fill the gap for now. Brook was wanting a Digicam for her school work, so I though I would off load the Nikon 990 on her to see if it would work. If not I'll just buy her something more suitable.

What a crazy day... You would think packaging would be a simple process, but it's not. There are so many issues that factor in... I should ask my all knowing buddy Trev, he can cover all bases 8) ;)

Hope everyone is having a great morning! :later:

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I notice that pic is from the U.S. Library of Congress Chris... is that a pic of one of our congressman? lol Nice flip! You guys take care while crusin' around in those other countries.

Andrew, I hate you blew your tweets and the timing was not the greatest. I know you'll have it figured out and fixed in a jiffy though.

Lex, glad your cable orders are picking up. I've been trying to help you out every chance I get.

Pat... a new style of a/c for your car? A longer trip home could have been a little chilly of a ride. Sorry bout the tint too.

Trev, how's the HD?

We got the ceiling double sheetrocked yesterday on in the HT room. What a job it was. Took us an entire day just for the ceiling. I didn't think I'd be able to finish towards the end. Mine and Steve's neck and back were shot. We could barely lift the screw drills on that last sheet and had to have 2 dead men to get the last piece up. How out of shape can someone be. But at least the hardest part is out of the way.

Hello to everyone else.

We're about to head out to make our Thanksgiving rounds. Have a great day guys.

Sonnie, are you saying that you lifted the ceiling sheetrock into place by hand, with no lifts? :wtf: Dude, you are the MAN! I did all of the sheetrock hanging myself with no help, but I did rent a drywall lift for the ceiling. There's absolutely no way I could have done it otherwise.

Bearings went bad on the primary roller rod on one side. So, I said, well if one side is bad, the other is likely not far behind, for 15 extra bucks, just do it too. I think that's only the 2nd service call in probably 12 years. I performed a couple of service operations myself along the way. Though there's some things I won't mess with.

Pat, Thanks! I looked at the Rebel, and although I also miss an SLR, the one thing that I don’t miss is the heft and size of them. I tend to take a small compact camera with me more often that I would 3 lbs of glass and bulk, sure its different if I'm going out expressly for phototaking, however the smaller cameras fill in the grab and run senario. At the end of the day, if I was to by a digital SLR I would get a Nikon D100, just because I have a few Nikkor lenses kicking around. Someday again :)

Morning. I went back to bed, and slept 2 hours. Had a pretty interesting dream, woke up with a boner, lol. Somehow two young chicks were in my house. I went in and found them and left once. But then I came back for some reason. ;)

I had to rip them out for leaving the projector on. Well, it wasn't the primary projector, but a second one. (Does this mean something?) When I went back in, one was without a top. She proceeded to cover herself. I pulled her arm back to take another peak. Last I recall, I was thinking threesome. But then I had to go and wake up.

Nice dream, Lex.

Well age is rearing its ugly head again. My cataract is ripe enough to be removed, but now another problem has emerged. Something is floating around in my left eye, the one with the cataract. It's like a few strands of hair moving around. I went to the Doc this AM and he says what it is. There is a medical term but I forgot. Anyway, that jelly like area beyond the lens, back toward the retina, has seen a few pieces break loose. I have to go see a specialist to make sure it isn't a torn retina, but the Doc just thinks it's what he told me it was. Eventually it will settle down below the lens and I won't be bothered. For now though, it is driving me crazy. I am going to pick up an eyepatch because using the computer or watching movies now is a pain in the butt.

Now, Gordon will find this interesting. I had mentioned several posts ago that the Router was working, well it only worked until I logged off. Since then I have been back to the direct connection if I want to access The Guide. I followed Gordon's suggestion, downloaded latest version, changed the MTU settings, plus I have followed some suggestion from the Router (D-Link) tech , who told me to disable a bunch of things , which I did, but still the problem exists. I am waiting to hear from the tech to see if he has any more brilliant ideas. If I have to get another Router, I will try to find something other than D-Link as I am afraid even a replacement won't work with The Guide. Weird, isn't it.

Well I hope all the members south of here had a very happy Thanksgiving.

Good Afternoon/Morning (depending on location) Everyone!

E, I like what you said about thanks... I also like what Helen Steiner Rice wrote "Help us to remember that the key to life and living is to make each prayer a prayer of thanks and every day Thanksgiving."

Trev, I hate to hear that you HD is not good on your Toshiba. It's remarkable on my Toshiba but I think my Tosh is a newer model. I do know that SD through component output is very soft on my Tosh but using s-video it looks pretty good. HD through the components is right on.

NO lifts Chris.... we're hillbilly's down this way ya know! Actually I thought it wouldn't be a big deal with no more than what we had to install (about 12 sheets for 2 layers). We just used a dead man for help. If I had to do it over I'd get a lift for sure.

WOW! Chris... you flew the man over? Too Cool!!!!!

Lex.... my garage door incident only cost me $46...of course it wasn't a mechanical problem that needed fixin'. I was surprised when I got my bill. I was thinkin' several hundred for stitches, etc... not so with the clinic. Our insurance pays the $46 too since it was an accident.

It's no fair that Chris and I got scars to remember our HT construction by while Andrew and E got away with no scars.

Thanks on the HT Pat.

Dang... LSU and Arkansas play in HD today and I'm missin' it by being at work. Maybe I need to go home early today!

Strange router problem George :?: Sounds almost like the router is cacheing its DNS... I wonder if you try an ipconfig /all in dos with both the router attached and direct and see if the DNS IP's are the same or not.

Sorry to hear about the eye problem too...that fluids called aquaeous humor behind the lens and vitreous humor around the retina or something like that if I remember back to my university days. i always found that a funny name which is why I likely remember it;)

Probably nothing to worry about George. The non-technical and probably most common term is "floaters". I got them and I've had them since I was 25 (or at least that's when I started paying attention). I've gotten pretty good at ignoring them but it would be wise to see an eye doctor...especially if you are seeing flashes of light as well (then that's bad).

The spots or threads are pretty normal...they're supposed to be common as you get older...it's kinda crappy I see them now but you learn to ignore it :)

Keep up with the tech at D-Link hopefully you can sort it out. Could be a bum router? You never know. Do you know anyone else with a router that you could swap out ....or head over to Future Shop and use their 30-day "trial period" ;)

Sounds almost like the router is cacheing its DNS... I wonder if you try an ipconfig /all in dos with both the router attached and direct and see if the DNS IP's are the same or not.

Maybe not the router at all, but the ISP. George, you may from benefit calling your ISP and explaining the problem and see what they say. Tell them the exact site you're having a problem (us) with, explain that they underwent a DNS update and it's quite possible something's up at the ISP.

Is it possible that the router is picking up a DNS server that is different than when the router isn't attached?

You don't hard code your DNS settings into the router...do you George? (might be DNS has been updated at the ISP)

The ISP updates your settings when you connect via the router? right?

This is weird. You may benefit from calling your ISP, they're bored anyway...give 'em a call :)

I went to the BMW store today. They still have the Vert z06 and the other one as well, the 02. So, looks like Verts aren't selling good now. The M3 I wanted on the showroom was gone. :( But it's a catch 22 even if I had the bucks. None of the M's look as good as my car inside really. I guess if you like performance, your not supposed to like wood? :nos: Doesn't really make sense. I think the wood door handles and dash trim look sweet myself.

Saw a new M, a dang coupe was 58 USD! That would put a convertible in that car at what, 64? Unreal.

Trev, that picture is out of context by itself. I said before showing that, that the car had Trevor's name wrote all over it. You know figuratively. Only literally as well. :)

Vols won today, but it likely doesn't mean all that much at this point. We will come in just under the BCS. But that's ok, we are still playing on NYD. No champoinship game anyway, so it doesn't mean all that much.

Gordon: Re the eye. I do see occasional flashes of light in the corner. I have been to see my eye doctor and will be referred to a specialist. Maybe it's a torn retina. Sure hope not. And if watching a big screen has anything to do with it, then I am in big trouble. But I do believe it has something to do with strain on the left eye since it is the one with the cataract. Anyway, I'll be seeing the specialist for the cataract and the floating thing problem at the same time. Soon I hope. Waiting for a date.

As for the router, so far the D-link techs haven't been much help. My ISP says the HT Guide site is a good one. I'll probably bother them later. Right now I just want to concentrate on getting this eye thing remedied.

Well George I hope it goes well. Don't fret too much. My pop complained about light flashes before he had both cataracts removed. The light bounces around off the cataract....it's probably that. After they removed the cataracts and did the lens implants he didn't need glasses anymore after 50 some odd years of wearing them. They give you as close to 20/20 as possible. Course that was 10 years ago and now he has a light prescription but he is in his 60's.

X-mas came pretty early for you didn't it ;) (assuming you do Christmas, not everyone does).

I checked out the private A&B sale in Winnipeg and I'll just say don't get your hopes up...you can do better at boxing day or the about the same during one of their weekly specials...In Winnipeg anyway. Do go though, because there are lots of giveaways and draws so it's worth shooting for those...but the deals aren't really there. Hey Gord, it is uber cool for the late night surfing and gaming. It takes a bit of getting use to as it feels more like a laptop keyboard, spacing is simular. What is nice about it and lap top keyboards is it has the same short stroke for the keys which I like. A hard core speed typist may prefer the standard keyboard over one of these, however my tying is not good enough to be really impartial to either :)

I do like my standard Black IBM keyboard more, but this is so cool I had to try it. Truth be known, I'm actually building a new PC for Brook and this is her keyboard (hence the keyboard my Girls gave me;) )

Katherine is really liking this so I may have to get her one too... Even though she uses the laptop 99% of the time.

Thanks for the heads up on the A&B sale Gord... Glad to hear I'm not missing anything that I really didn't need anyway.

Here is a good tip!!

Andy Rooney's TIPS FOR TELEMARKETERS
>
>Three Little Words That Work !!
>
>(1)The three little words are: "Hold on,
> Please..."
>Saying this, while putting down your phone and
> walking off (instead of
>hanging-up immediately) would make each
>telemarketing call so much more
>time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind
> to a halt.
>
>Then when you eventually hear the phone company's
> "beep-beep-beep" tone,
>you know it's time to go back and hang up your
> handset, which has
>efficiently completed its task. These three
> little words will help
>eliminate telephone soliciting.
>
>(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls
> with no one on the other
>end?
>This is a telemarketing technique where a machine
> makes phone calls and
>records the time of day when a person answers the
>phone.
>
>This technique is used to determine the best time
>of day for a "real"
>sales person to call back and get someone at
> home.
>
>What you can do after answering, if you notice
> there is no one there, is
>to immediately start hitting your # button on the
> phone, 6 or 7 times, as
> that dialed the call and it
>kicks your number out of their system. Since
>doing this, my phone calls
>have decreased dramatically.
>
>THIS IS THE BEST ONE
>(3) Another Good Idea: When you get "ads"
> enclosed with your phone or
>utility bill, return these "ads" with your
> payment. Let the sending
>companies throw their own junk mail away.
>
>When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the
>mail for everything from
>credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type
>junk, do not throw away the
>return envelope.
>
>Most of these come with postage-paid return
> envelopes, right? It costs
>them more than the regular 37 cents postage "IF"
>and when they receive
>them back.
>
>It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The
> postage was around 50
>cents before! the last increase and it is
> according to the weight. In that
>case, why not get rid of some of your other junk
>mail and put it in these
>cool little, postage-paid return envelopes. One
> of Andy Rooney's (60
>minutes) ideas. Send an ad for your local chimney
> cleaner to American
>Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you
> didn't get anything else
>that day, then just send them their blank
> application back!
>
>your name isn't on
>anything you send them.
>
>You can even send the envelope back empty if you
>guessing!
>
>Eventually, the banks and credit card companies
>will begin getting their
>own junk back in the mail.
>
>Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of
> junk mail, and best of
>all they're paying for it...Twice!
>
>Let's help keep our postal service busy since
>they are saying that e-mail
>is cutting into their business profits, and
>that's why they need to
>increase postage costs again. You get the idea !
>
>If enough people follow these tips, it will work!

Well thanks for the encouragement, Gordon. My wife had two cataracts removed and her vision did improve substantially. These blotches floating around are just a plain nusiance. The optometrist said they'll settle down below the lens eventually, but until I hear what the specialist has to say, I guess I can't help but be a little concerned.

Trevor, I really doubt if viewing the big screen was the problem. I wear glasses when watching movies. They help overcome the blurred vision from the cataract. But that's the only time I wear the glasses, and perhaps that's what caused my present problem. Maybe I should have been wearing them all the time. Well enough about my silly eye thing.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Doesn't fair to well for BMW, when not one of what, 4 or 5 people don't like the car's overall appearance. Front end looks pretty good, but I am not much one on "created lines". To me a car must flow, and when you jut out, it just doens't flow tha well. Not like a Vette. :) Now the car could be improved with ground effects that come up to the bottom line, I think. but that's mods right off the bat.

Bing, I hope the Titans do good, but they've never really felt like my team. I'd pull for Payton and the Colts first if I have a choice. I do like to see the former Vols do well in the pros, but as far as having a team, not so much.

Hey gang...well after almost two hours of chatting and such...they said: "After two years of interviewing on and off a variety of different people, we're stopping all search and interview procedures and said they want to hire me"...the catch is not right now. They said pulling the trigger now would not be good because I'd sit around for a month or two and they want me to hit the ground running...so I could hear something as early as January or February at the latest.

I believe when they started looking they intended to land a job and that didn't go through, so now it looks like just a waiting game...they said I'm their man and they hoped I'd wait for them...but would understand if I took something else.

I'm ok with my job now...and think all is well through the first few months of the next year...so timing might be perfect to make a change at that time anyway. So all is well...and I can at least rest assured that someone likes me! ;)

VERY COOL place and I'd be VERY happy about transitioning there...I've only seen THREE of this type of job become available (including this one) since I graduated in college in 1996...so these jobs are VERY hard to come by and so here's praying it all works out!

And...yea, I'd still take the beamer! 8)

Good Job E! Heres to hoping you get the call :^x

Yah, I would still take the new 5 too, but I'm not liking the high body line of it. The roof line is much too rounded, looking like those old Mercedes Benz. The Whole car it too bulbious, I prefer the Paper airplane lines styling of the older cars. They have a lower belt line and are more hansome looking. Like I said, i'll have to see if it grows on me.

Thanks EJ!

Lex, I cant beleive the Titans lost, they were looking so good on the opening possesion. Goes to show, what can happen when you have nothing to lose...

Later all....

Since few of you showed concern about my puter problems, few of you will probably care that I think I fixed my dual! Power supply flaked out on me. I'm 99.9% sure it's fixed now. I wasn't quite astute enough to diagnose this myself. The place where I bought my dual has a tech guy, and after I told him all about it, he said it was likely power supply. I really should have isolated that myself, since the machine would sometimes boot up with 1 drive in it, but put 2 HDs in it, and there was no way it would boot. Simply, it had insufficient power to do so.

I went from a 430 watt supply to a 550 supply, so I should now have power to spare. I actually think I had adequite power to begin with. But something happened to the supply over the last little while that made it not output full power. Go figure.

Now, as to the backup machine that's flaked out, I picked up a 99 buck Mobo to see if that will fix that, but hopefully I can wait until the holidays to tackle that PC again. After the most frustrating day Sunday with computers I think I've ever had, (top 3 anyway), I'd like not to deal with it right now. :)

I care, I really do...weeeeelll not really ;)

No, actually good show on sourcing out the root of the problem. Bad P/S's cause all sorts of funky things....quite often, people mistake a bad p/s for a bad motherboard or memory (not realizing insufficient power is what's causing the flakiness. Happened to me. Picked up an ANTEC and life is good). It's a sweet power supply, in case anyone wants a recommendation.

Thanks guys, well, except Gord, lol.

Gord, I started to pick up an Ernemax. (sp?) but it was 185 for a 600 watter. or 650. I got a Taurus for 125, all aluminum case, adjustable fan, lots of power connectors with long connections and cool color lights out the back fan. I almost bought the more expensive one. But since I had used a no name 430 watter for 2 years, I figured the Taurus would be good enough, and save me some bucks. None of the major stores sell power supplies that large on the shelf. So, I had to go to an electronics supply house I do a little biz with here to find what I found. Saved me a week or two wait. So, I am happy.

Now that cheapo mother board, not so happy, I can't get it to post. I tried about everything even powered it up outside the case on plastic to make sure it wasn't grounding out. That CPU was questionable, since I had smoked a wiring harness with that cpu in. I may try one more CPU before I take the board back, but other than that, she's going back.

Super Lex!

Hey Bent , I cheated and had to google it...but I think I found your joke:

A major Hollywood star decided to do a charity dinner and invited
hundreds of people to take part.
To make it interesting, the host decided to make it a costume party with the theme of emotions.
So that night, the first couple came to the front door, dressed in all blue.

"You were supposed to dress up as an emotion" states the doorman.

"We are dressed in all blue because we picked the sad emotion."

Thinking it over, the doorman decided that was good enough. The next couple comes up to the door dressed in all red clothing "Sorry, you needed to dress up in a costume tonight!", to which the couple reply,

"We are, our red clothes symbolize we are angry. Besides, you let the other couple before us in."

Again, the doorman agrees to let them in.

Then along comes a black guy, completely naked with the exception of a
pear with the core cut out and his penis stuck into it. The doorman,
wide eyed looks at him,

"I'm sorry, but I don't think you have been invited to this dinner."

To which the black man responds in a thick Jamaican accent,

"Actually I was invited!",

"Well you were supposed to be dressed up in a costume that conveys a certain emotion."

The black guy says,

"I am in a costume, I'm deep in despair!" (Deep in this pear)

That's bad

Weird on the router...which one? Di-614+

Your not connecting, The only tip I can offer that I discovered was screwing me up at first is:

under ppoe account....it will be apratt@res1.mts.net

under ppoe servicename....leave it blank.

That should fix you up (if it's a connection issue).

I was always putting the res1.mts.net in the servicename section.

Hi, guys... writing from a public computer in Frankfurt this time. Finally made it out of the desert!

I'm still such an A/V geek... my aircrew were flipping through my DVD case that I brought with me to pass the time, looking at my movies. They remarked, "Digital Video Essentials? Plasma Art? What is THIS crap?"

I got to see the premiere of all the latest BMW models at the Frankfurt auto show this year, including the new X3, the new 5er, and the new 6er sports sedan. I'm not to-die-for thrilled with the latest design styles by Chris Bangle, but in general I think it's pretty good. I tell you what, though, seeing some of those cars in person and sitting in the cockpit (okay, I'm also such a pilot geek) is awesome. I REALLY like the new Z4... that's the first on my list right now for next year. It drives really nice too. :D

Hopefully on my way home soon. Got a lot more work to do on the theater--some cleaning, and then gonna build the riser and stage. One thing I'm hung up on right now is what exactly to do with my ceiling. Should I just go with drywall? Or put another layer of drywall around the outer edge to create a mini-sunk middle ceiling? Or try to do some sort of coffered design, or long strips of crown molding to create squares?

That's what I'd do if I could...it allows you to run all the power/ speaker cables in there easily...false ceilings can be easy to work with as well but getting them in black isn't so easy...and trust me I'll NEVER paint another ceiling tile...those things are sponges

I still can't get over how beautiful that hubble image is...."they should have sent a poet" is such a profound line from one of my all time favorite movies....and to that end do you believe there's life on other planets? I believe the odds are very much in favour of their being some sort of life out there somewhere...it'd be an aweful waste of space if not ;)

Thanks guys! I thought that image was worthy of a flip pic. Definitely a mysterious lookin' image.

Chris, when you get your HT built you can show your aircrew what Plasma Art is all about. I'll bet they'll be amazed. It's the same way around these parts.

Fiber optic ceiling??? Hmmmm.... what that be?

Angibug wanted me to put stars in the ceiling in our HT room. I think I'll pass. I can see them being a distraction.

I'm gonna take more pics once I get more sheetrock up. It's very slow going with only me hangin rock right now. I did outline the potential screen with a marker today. I think 96" is gonna be the right size.

Welp... we're about to go out and eat with mama and daddy.

Have a great dinner Sonnie...fiber optic ceilings kind of resemble a what you would see at night looking up...a star filled sky! ;) If you do a search on the Internet you can find numerous examples of folks who poked hundreds of little holes in their ceiling to get this effect...not for me, but it can look very cool if done correctly with the rest of the room design.

Tomorrow I'm hosting part one of a two part ( which will be next Friday) movie night series of the LOTR "Extended Edition" series...then as a group we're all going to go see the third movie in the theaters! Should be a blast...all are LOTR fans or real movie buffs and I told them we're going to watch the movie close to or at reference levels...because they're dying to hear what that will sound like! We'll see how long we can take that in my theater though...I played the "org attack scene in the troll cave" and my ears were ringing/hurting after just that scene at reference level. :bluezoned:

Interesting and sad news from Boxlight/Studio Experience. They produced 50 2HD units and will produce no more. I don't even know if I got one yet. Anyway... there will be 50 lucky individuals with 2HD's. They claim that they could not compete with the Sanyo Z2 and market the 2HD profitably.

Check that: It was 50 units not 30... and I was a lucky dog on getting one.

Note: There are a few dealers out there that may have a few units left that they have not sold but no telling what the price will be. Boxlight will be producing another unit to replace the 2HD and will introduce it in January at the CES.

Andrew Contact was one of my first movies I ever bought....if not the first...I think.

I think it's very possible there is life in some form or another out there. Forget your religious beliefs....the odds are definitely for it. If space is limitless, like they say, then the odds are very good indeed. It follows an inverse relationship (I'm BS'ing here but I think that's how it would work.)

If the universe was actually quite small then we would know pretty much everything about the kids on our block.

Kind of like saying...the neighborhood where I live, I'm the only Moore on the street. But I'm 99% sure I'm not the only Moore in the city (However, I know I'm not because my parents live here ). In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all that to find out there is another Moore living within a 5 kilometer radius of me (even though I have no clue if that's true or not).

I approach the idea of E.T.'s with the same amount of certainty.

Just because you don't know anything about your neighbor doesn't mean they're not there....it just takes a little "faith" ;). People are pretty good at trusting "faith" when they can rationalize it within themselves. When the concept seems too "out there", all of a sudden like, "faith" has no bearing.

No I think it's a very real possiblity. Very logical, in fact.

I don't believe that has much relevance to the existance of other life really as both scientists and creationists could argue the results to prove their point. As to extraterestrial life, I think faith has little to do with it. I believe in the possibility of other life, but I don't feel I require faith that there is. On all this life on other planets business...there may be, there may not...I believe God created life and I'm not one to put Him in a box saying He didn't create life on other planets but so far I don't have any proof that He did...nowhere in His record book, the Bible, does it say anything beyond..."He created the heavens and the stars." Perhaps one day He will allow science to advance so much as to prove such things...but from where I stand today...I just enjoy those heaven's and stars as a beautiful creation for life here on earth to wonder and splendor at! 8) There's nothing wrong with being the only life in the universe, that just means we (people) are that much more special and unique...as we definitely are! :T

I thought this was funny!!

An Amish woman and her teenage daughter were riding in their buggy one cold day. The daughter said to her mother, "My hands are freezing cold."

Her mother replied, "Put them between your legs. Your body heat
will warm them up." The daughter did as advised and her hands warmed
up.
The next day, which was equally cold, the daughter and her boyfriend were riding in the buggy. The boyfriend said, "My hands are so cold." The girl replied, "Put them between my legs. The warmth of my body will warm them up." The next day while out in the buggy, the boyfriend said,
"My nose is cold." To which the girl replied, "Then put it between my
legs.
The warmth of my body will warm it up." The following day, the boyfriend said, "My penis is frozen solid."
A day later, the daughter was taking her mother for a ride in the
buggy.
She asked her mother, "Have you ever heard of a penis?" Concerned,
her mother cautiously replied, "Yes. Why do you ask?"
The daughter replied, "They make one hell of a mess when they
defrost, don't they?"

firm belief in something for which there is no proof That's one of Websters definitions and is appropriate. We acknowlege the possiblity and do so on faith because we have no basis of proof. Not a shred of evidence other than Michael Jackson that e.t.'s exist (I don't mean Spielberg's e.t. mind you....it could be as simple as a out wordly single celled organism. which would still qualify as life if it didn't come from earth).

There is no one right answer to Andrews question...so it is a bit of a stinker...or a discussion builder depending how you look at it.

My X-Mas party was fun. The company is small so my wife and I were picked up in a limo, and then we swung around and picked up the bosses and the other person I work with. We had a nice dinner at Green Gates and then finished off the night palying pool. Somewhere in there I had a few drinks to warm me up ;)

Seeing as it would take 90,000 light years just to travel to the end of our Milky Way Galaxy, and that our Galaxy is just one of a hundred billion in the universe, I believe that there has to be other forms of life in the universe.

The known visable universe is more than 30 billion light years across, remember that a light year is the distance it takes light to travel in 1 year, or 9.46x1015 Meters, or 9.5 million, million kilometers... 8O Yet even traveling at the speed of light it would take 30 billion years to get to the edge of the known visable universe.

It's a big assed universe and to not even postulate that there could be other forms of life in it's vastness......... :? ;)

Andrew, I said there's a possibility of life. That should really be enough. I didn't say religious beliefs influence how I feel about the possibility of life on another part of the universe, or maybe another universe. No one will dictate to me how I feel, not you, not E, not anyone. So, in short, I don't have to believe. I can say it may exist, but I can also leave the possibility that it doesn't.

Hold on there Trev...it sounds like Boxlight's got some new projectors cooking that may be worth waiting for. 1/2 HD res Matterhorn based DLP for one...if the rumours are true.

Not only is that true Gordon but it will be introduced at CES in 1/04 and supposedly compete with the Z2/2HD pricing.

Runco introduced the first DLP's incorporating TI's Matterhorn chipset technology back in June. It will be great if Boxlight can get this technology in a reasonably priced PJ. It could be a real winner. Something tells me though that the pricing might be a tad higher than expected.

Well, I believe there are all kinds of life forms out there. Just can't buy that one planet in the entire universe is the only one able to maintain life.

Thats the Key to the whole "other life" statement....

You see, life on earth is very special and rare... Think for a moment how much the ambient temperature changes with just a slight distance change from the sun (we see it in seasons, well Us Canucks do, those closer to the equator, don't know what I'm talking about ;) ). Earth could be considered the optimum distance from the sun to sustain life (as we know it) because the conditions are right (for now). The other planets are too close or too far away to sustain life.

Now this optimum distance Earth is from the sun to sustain life only applies in our solar system, for in another solar system (if there is one), the sun would probably be bigger or smaller in mass and life cycle (intensity), the planet(s) would be bigger or smaller, and a different distance from the sun. So in order for the alternate solar system with a bigger or smaller sun..etc, to sustain life, the planet(s) that is containing this "life" would also have to be in a correct distance from that sun to have a life sustaining environmental conditions. If not now, some time in the future (many billions of years) or some time in the past the conditions could be right in this alternate solar system.

Our solar system could not have systain life on earth a billion years ago. Earth would have been too hot or too cold (I think the latter)

It boggles the mind when you think of the time and space involed in the universe.. We definately are here for only a short time... And life is precious given the logistics of it all in the grand scheme of things.

However it is just life, a scientific fluke, that I'm sure is occuring else where in the large expanse... It has to be, if not now, in the future or previously in time.

more later as I'm on lunch :)

Got myself a new toy (kinda). I got another HTM remote. This time it's the MX-600 instead of the 700. This one is RF/IR and will be used in the new HT room.

I've really a lot to do. 2 digitals, 2 components, 1 nine meters long, 3 14 foot silvercats, 1 7 foot silvercat, a pair of Supernovas. That's a lot of work with the components and long cables.

Wicked remote Sonnie. I love the look of those HTM remotes. Is that one a touchscreen button combo or just hard buttons only?

As for 95/NT yeah that's been our configuration for at least 5+ years. As an update I checked what was ordered and it looks like we are getting XP Pro as an OS. So bye bye 95/NT :T

Thanks Gordon and Bing!

I did read what you wrote Bing but really don't know what to say other than what I've already said. I agree with some of what you said but I think my Christian beliefs sway me somewhat. Although as E said there's not really any mention of life anywhere other than Earth/Heaven/Hell in the Bible. I can't say that doesn't mean there isn't but I kinda doubt it. I haven't really considered or studied the possibilities too much so it's hard for me to say much.

Actually Gordon... that pic doesn't do it justice. It's much prettier in real life. It has more of silver metallic look but not the el cheapo silver like you see on some other remotes. It's all buttons with several pages of customizable LCD via a software program.

We were on 95 for several years, then 98, and it has been ever so great with 2K. No more blue screens! :D

Wishing you all an out of this world christmas

Bing that's just what makes it all the more likely. Even if you ignor the time span for a moment and just look at propabilities no matter if the odds are 1 in a billion billions there's still a very good chance that somewhere there's a planet that could support life of some description (lets assume we're using the classical definition of life here) For that matter there might well be life either no or in past on mars or more likely Europa given the water there...and of course there's non silicon based life as well that opens up a whole other world so to speak:)

As for them finding us (or vise versa) distances in space are rather interesting since with the existance of worm holes and the like we might not have to travel in a straigh line to go from point A to point B. There's already some evidence of this with some very small particles that can travel faster then the speed of light which is impossible using the tradional definition of speed (straight line). Its a strange world we live in full of thing we have yet to learn.

Funny song, Trev!

Sonnie, congrats on the new HTMaster remote! The new 600 and 800 look great. Me, I still haven't been able to fully play with my MX-700, since the theater still isn't done. Now that I've got the drywall up, though, I'm halfway tempted to just throw the chairs, equipment, and speakers in and use it like it is.

Back home again! woo hoo! I'll be home for a while, probably, since Jen is due sometime in the next month. My mother-in-law is visiting right now, so I can't do everything I want around the house. But, I hope to still get some good work done, like painting the new baby's room, installing some more stuff around and building a bit of furniture, and of course continuing work on the theater. Building the stage and risers next. My BFD just showed up yesterday, and the seats should hopefully be here within the next week or so.

Trevor that 2HD IS a sanyo so if the 2HD doesn't work out get the Z2 they're functionally identical. As for the name anyone that cares will know its a damn fine projector and those that don't know about it soon will after they see how great the image is....and frankly Panasonic or InFocus aren't upper crust names either yet both offer quality projectors.

Hey guys!!

I was bummed to see the Viper being sold!
I will have to find out who did buy it.
Maybe it was Bing! ;)

Thanks on the PJ!

Just finished up with our Childrens Christmas Party..
Had 67 children in total attend.
Each received a gift from Santa!!
It was a great success.

Something went wrong with chris's quote so now that I've fixed that all is well again...not that it matters now that we're on the next page.
