At least it's only for 24 hours, hopefully... give or take DNS updates which usually take longer. Any more takers for my TTP Mailing List?

even if the DNS's are up couldn't we use an IP address to get to the new server?

Only if we know what the IP address is after the move. More likely than not it'll be different than before. Maybe Mats can post it to my TTP Mailing List once the server is up at the new location, for those who are DNS deficient. :)

Uh, will everyone be receiving replies as well? That's one thing you need to be careful of... if you use the reply button in your email program, you'll reply to the sender, not the list. You could use "reply all", but I recommend, if you want your reply to post to the list, to send it to the list address.

Of course, if you want to reply privately to someone, you can use the reply button.

I'm not using a fancy mailing list program, just a procmail script that's set up to forward the mail to the list recipients, so it doesn't modify the subject or sender email addresses, or screen the emails in any way (except to check for viruses, of course Mr. Geek had to do that! :B ). If you don't want your work email address (for example) to get posted, don't post to the list from that address. :)

Actually, Richard Marx was from the late 80s, I think his first album was in '87. Of course I remember this as it was MY decade. Though I never had "big" hair, my hair just won't do anything but go flat. But the music was great!! It's a shame popular music is so crappy in comparison now.

An interesting day coming in the HT Guide saga. Hope it turns out okay.

Yup, the 80's are the decade I identify with the most also, even though I went through "college" in the 90's. You really see more and more new and folk stuff around about the 80's. It's getting to be quite the nostalgia era of choice lately. I just watched about 9 hours of VH1 the other day... they have this show called "I Love the 80's" and the sequel "Strikes Back", talking about major events, products, music, etc that happened year by year in the 80's. Quite a trip down memory lane. Remember Roos shoes with the pockets? Transformers? Glow Worms? Jem? Milli Vannili?

I think if you add an entry to your Hosts file (windowssystem32driversetchosts, or winntsystem32driversetchosts, depending on what version of Windoze you're running), it should work (but don't do it until the new server comes up, or you won't be able to access the old server anymore!):212.254.238.58 www.htguide.com htguide.com

BTW, I added Chris, Trevor, and Mats (whether you like it or not!) to the list. Mats, you can post a status and let us know when the server is back up!

Currently, I have me, Andrew, Eduardo, Bent, Sonnie, Gordon, Paul, Erik, Doug, Chris, Trevor and Mats on the list. Any more takers? Where's Bing been lately? Oh well, HTG will be down and back up and Bing won't even realize what happened... :)

The 80s were great! Richard Marx reminds me of when I was dating a girl in '87, more useless memories... ;)

Fourth post of the morning...

For those who are having trouble posting (Invalid username/password) you'll have to delete your HTG Cookies. In IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, under Temporary Internet Files click Settings, then click View Files, and look for any cookies referencing htguide.com or www.htguide.com and delete them. Then go back into the site and log in again. Alternatively, if you have IE 6 you can click Delete Cookies which wipes all your cookies but then you'll lose customized settings/saved passwords for all sites you access.

If you're using Netscape or Mozilla, edit the file cookies.txt and delete any lines referencing htguide.com or www.htguide.com.

Not much going on here. My back is getting better, the chiropractor adjusted it some more last night, and am doing stretches and exercises to loosen it up.

Looks like the mailing list worked out pretty well. I'll keep it active in case we need it for whatever reason (next HTG outage or whatever).

Maybe Sonnie will be able to post now. In a recent post to the mailing list he said he was using the IP address to access the site, and I told him to use the normal URL, after updating his hosts file. Maybe that'll solve his password problem. We'll see if the hillbilly posts here today!

Doesn't look like the DNS updates have even started, at this point, from what I can tell.

Yeah Mats getting the DNS stuff set is probably is a good idea since most people aren't going to know to stuff an IP address into their hosts file to access the site. :)

Now that you're on a ADSL connection do you have any DNS servers to use? I suggested to Doug that he could look into hosting the DNS on the servers that host catcables.com.

VIRUS ALERT

There's a new version of Mimail called W32.Mimail.C@mm spreading. I've read reports of it hitting hard in some areas.

It arrives with a subject line of Re[2]: our private photos and an attached file photos.zip which may contain a photos.jpg.exe or a html file. It uses Microsoft exploits to execute when opened.

Here's Symantec's writeup (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mimail.c@mm.html) (they rate it a Category 2 right now) and McAfee's (http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100795) writeup (they rate it a Medium threat).

I heard there was another new virus. it's called bigdik.sp@mm. haha. I think it "comes" in the forum of an email something about pencolada enlargement. ha.

At the instant I posted my last post here, my computer vaporized on me and rebooted. I've been back and forth between 2 systems trying to get one to work damnit. I've had a helluva time. Using the laptop about as much as anything right now, til I figure this crap out.

FYI, the Z06 is gone. I traded back for a BMW. I just had to many problems getting in and out of not only the drive way, but out of the car in the garage too, with limited space. I mean you have to about roll out of those things. I'll miss the gut wrenching acceleration and cat like cornering. But my new (used) 330I coupe with the M appearance package, and handling package will be much more comfortable and damnit I hate to say it, practical. Plus, I might escape a few cop's eyes a little easier in the bmw. Those Vettes have ticket wrote all over them.

Howdy all...I guess we're back...hope everyone had a good Halloween. We had about 70 kids despite -14C. It was a good night but a killer wind.

Spencer's after halloween sale was brutal this year. 50% off was nuthin impressive since it's been 50% for a week. Brutal. So I went to Eddie Bauer and bought some over-priced t-shirts and got a really nice duffle bag for 35 bucks (seemed like a good deal, but you had to buy $75 worth of stuff, which was no problem between my brother-in-law and myself). Went to Old Navy (since that's fairly new here and I hadn't been there yet) but left because the line up was ridculous. People are pretty caught up in that store right now, medium quality clothes at reasonable prices it seemed...it wasn't the second coming of clothing stores, so I don't know what the lineup was all about???).

Pet Peeve of the day...People who use their parents or relatives handicap card to park in those spaces.

This lady (late 30's early 40's) pulls up that lexus SUV with her daughter and they went (ran actually) into the store....nothing wrong with either of them...trust me on that. The only thing I can figure was that the mother had a mental deficiency for taking advantage of a space that someone else actually needs. :x

Back to work. Ah the fun of working on a Sat. Can't complain too loudly...it could be a lot worse.

Have a good Saturday all.

Hey, looks like DNS is updated. I had to bounce the DNS server on my linux box to flush the cache, and flush the cache on my W2K, but by golly it got the new IP.

If you're still having trouble accessing the guide, do a ipconfig /flushdns from the run box (in W2K or XP). You should be able to remove the htguide.com entry from your hosts file now.

Hey Lex why don't you get Mats to dump the registered members email into a mailing list and then send an email out to the general membership that we are back online. Or something to that effect.

Just a thought. It would be a decent way to let people know what's going on. Kevin's TTP mailing was a masterstroke. It was a great way to keep up with what was going on.

You know a Quarterly or Yearly email on new things going on at the guide wouldn't be such a bad idea either. I bet many members don't know squat about the news flash feature, the photo gallery or how to add to it, adding avatars, Encouragements to get posting.... Things of that nature.

Or maybe a HTG faq...I dunno....I'm just rambling when I should be working :)

Later.

Hey Guys. Great that HTG is back up. I have been pre-occupied with my mom going in the hospital to get her Gull Bladder removed. They ran intoa slight complication that required her so stay over night for observations. She's home now but not feeling good.

Today I helped my uncle pack up his company's relocation.

Anyways Allison is out of town for the weekend and I'm watching the Matrix, then a boxing match, then the Animatrix and then maybe Matrix: Reloaded.

And now, for the moment you've been waiting for, from the guy that trades cars every 2 weeks.

Trevor, I know it's not a Z06. I miss the 06 some I admit. But this car is more sensible for every day driving. Introducing the 2002 BMW 330CI with M performance package, steptronics transmission. no, it's not an M3. But it's damn close. Loaded pretty much to the gills except for heated seats and 6 disc changer. 16,900 miles only. Xenon headlights. It's almost like the headlights are popping up when they come on. Strange. Rear view mirror like Z06, green when lights are on it for night view. The grill is unique to the 2002 model. M3 plant thought it looked to much like the M3, so they had a stop put on using it for the 330ci.

That tranny shifts so smooth in "D". But kick it over to the left to manual mode, and she gets gritty. 5 speed automatic. recarro style buckets with adjustable lumbar support, back support, etc...

Weird going on here. My notebook can't see the guide site even though I"ve now removed the entry from the the hosts file and done a flush and a reboot. Funny thing is when I do a tracert on the htguide it finds the new IP but times out on all but two tries. On my other PC that never had the host file modd'ed it works...which is how I'm able to see it now but again doing a trace results in it timing out in a similar fashion so I'm not sure what's going on...any ideas?

Oh Trev that suxs big time. BELIEVE ME I sort a know how you feel. We've endured a slew of shit like that all year this year. Though yours is a bit over the top. I hope you're able to thin that off. It doesn't help that the weather is getting cold.

On Wednesday night We had our own touch of vandalism. I have this Noma garden light kit setup in the front. Well I found these battery light pumkins that fit perfectly over the garden light bases when you remove the lantern tops (pagoda type lights). Someone came along and ripped all the pumpkins off the light bases and broke every base in the process and then threw one of the pumkins on the street and smashed it to make a point, I guess, that they're an even bigger idiot then I could imagine. Basically I'm out one garden light set. 50 bucks goes bye bye.
:(

We have quite a bit of the kind of crap happen this year. I hoping the idiot (whomever he/she is) hurrys up and graduates so that they can leave home and get the fu*k out of dodge. Then things might (MIGHT) return to normal around here.

Some kids have zero respect for other people in general. Unfortunately it's probably the old 'one apple spoils the bunch' type scenario because I know there are a lot of good kids out there as well.

Ah--looks like we're back!

Halloween was okay here--not many trick-or-treaters, though. We've got several bags of extra candy. I'm in week 11 of 12 in the Body For Life challenge, so I'm not going to eat it! At least no vandalism around here.

Having a garage sale here today and tomorrow. Made $240 today!!!! Hopefully the rest will sell tomorrow. More theater money!

Matrix Revolutions comes out this week! I'm going to go see it in the Seattle IMAX theater. I think the first show is at 6 AM... not sure if I want to be that adventurous or not. My Finding Nemo shipped from Buy.com today, too.

Trev: That really blows about your trailer. I had a 18' flatbed car trailer stolen a few years ago, right before I got in insured. Pissed me off. Looks like somebody might have got you with paintballs--aren't they able to be washed off?

Sonnie: I said I was BORING, not BORED... :D Heheheeee... I think I've become a rather boring person when I take my 2 week vacations and spend them all at home. But, I'll get a lot of stuff done with the theater, hopefully.

Lex: Great Bimmer! It's coming down to the 330i, 3.0 Z4, or maybe a new X3 for me. The M3 is tempting, but just a hair outside what I may be able to afford after this theater project.

Fortunately we were able to get it off.
There was no sign of paintball residue or paint balloon material etc..
Almost like somebody walked up to it with a can of paint and threw it on the trailer.

Mornin' folks...

Nice Beemer (or Bimmer), Lex. You certainly have class when it comes to cars. I wish I could afford something nice like that.

Trev, bummer on the vandalism. At least it was the trailer and not the Vette. I like the double-barrel shotgun idea. Get one with the pump action, the pumping sound (CLACK CLACK!) would likely scare off anyone before you even shot off a round. Then get some training and target practice so you can learn to aim and shoot the thing. I for one would give the perps a :nutkick: a :bash: and a :wedgie: and then I'd sick the shotgun on them!

After you get the gun, save a round for the author of the Mimail worms. There's another variant out, W32.Mimail.D@mm (Symantec writeup) (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mimail.d@mm.html), so everyone needs to update their anti-virus, again.

So far I haven't seen either variant, but I did get hit with some Swens the other day in my Yahoo mail.

You did remove the entry from the hosts file, right?

Ethical hacking, now there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. They should have hired me, I could hack your systems for a lot cheaper than IBM  :)

Big Football game today. Any idea if this will be blackedout or not. I think CBC/TSN has to lift 2 and they've only lifted 1 right. This should be on the tube...I hope.

Where should I send your half of the payment book Trev? "Ours". :)

Ouch, 59K, I could get a NEW convertible M for that much here. Mine is used of course, close to 17K miles for 2 years old, not bad miles. I've got a couple grand more in this car than I should have with the Vette trade (reads Vette dump) and lower than I would have liked residual value of my 97 convertible 328i.

But we'll just say my 2002 330ci car is about a 35K used car. I think people would stand in line almost to get it for 35K. New replacement cost more like 46-48K here. I figure in 3 years it's still worth 25 or so. So, not a bad car investment.

The Vette might have been similar resale. But cold hard reality of it was, I paid to much for the Vette @ 35,900. You can buy them for 30K now if you look. Maybe not with 5K miles, that was rather rare. But I have seen them with 3500 miles, and 7500 miles on the net even if a bit more money. But the Z06s just don't retain their value "yet". I say yet, because someday, 20 years from now, it could become the most desirable performance Vette. But the one thing knocking it,is no glass roof or convertible. It seems people want to let the sun in with these cars.
Yet, they consider them a summer car, not worth much in the winter. Yet with no roof. It's confusing. :?:

I may own another vette someday. But it will be with a house with a level lot, and as a 2nd or 3rd car. Not my primary transportation. But really, my dream muscle car is still a Shelby GT500 68 model. :)

So about $43K US funds.
That was list price, so likely around $53K CDN or

It sure is a beautiful car.

Hey, guys... it snowed here last night, but then turned into a beautiful day today.

Made only $7 off the garage sale today. Oh, well... $247 for 2 days isn't too bad, I suppose.

Is it just me, or did anyone else get a billion E-mails from friends, each sending a 6 Megabyte E-mail with several pictures of their kids, saying "look how darling my Johnny is this year". I'll probably be taking pictures in the upcoming years, too, with the :baby: on the way, but I'll try not to shut down people's E-mail accounts with pictures.

While I'm griping, anybody else have a trick-or-treater come by, that when you opened the door, they just helped themselves to the candy in the bowl you were holding? Some people just don't teach their kids manners. [/bitch mode]

Hey Kids,

Figured that I would stop by and peek in once more. The prodigal son has returned to post.

Let's see...what have I been up to...

Employment:
About two months ago I got a call from Sue, whom I worked with at the federal facility here in town. She got moved to a new division and asked if I wouldn't mind working for her. Since I'd been unemployed for 8 months I obviously said "Just give me one hour's notice to get ready and I'm SO there!" She managed to get it all set up to where I went right through the system. No interviews, no selection, just me filling out paperwork and being given a start date. I was extremely happy that she thought enough about my work to give me this chance. Things have been going awesome since then. I'm setting up Dell D600's, D800's, and a few Optiplexes for various federal government workers across the U.S. and to several embassies. I mainly get to work with people at Wildlife Services, some of their pilots, and other agents in the field. It's pretty neat. I basically ghost them all, set up their Notes email, and ship em. I've got well over 800 machines to ship in all, so I'm going to be busy ;) The cool thing is they were going to hire another contractor, as there was a budget for two. But Sue has been watching me and says they're going to hold off on the other, until I ask for help, so until then the entire budget is mine :) After the first of the year she's going to put in the request to get me hired on as a true federal employee. At the very least she's going to push for a two year internship. All I care about at this point is job stability, it's the only thing that matters anymore. I do make a bit more than I did last time I was here, so that's cool...but I'm still keeping my spending down. This past Friday was the paycheck that FINALLY got me psuedo caught up financially from the 8 months of damage caused by being unemployed. Some people LOVE to ride unemployment insurance...I don't see how or why they can do that. I don't EVER want to go back to living that way.

Video Production:
Yeah, it seems Fallout Productions is manifesting itself into something real finally, after all these years. I managed to get a Dell Inspiron (top model) with a DVD Writer and all of the bells and whistles (and widescreen, of course). One of my clients asked if I would take the laptop as payment for a DVD I did for them since they had a big P.O. going out anyhow...so of course I said yes.
So now I'm using this laptop to do all of my video editing. Unfortunately I'm only using Pinnacle Studio 8 at the moment, until I can get a copy of Final Cut. Shadow Play Films may be giving me a Mac to do my editing on, with a copy of Final Cut and Adobe After Effects on it. THAT would be sweet.
So, I'm currently working on a documentary for a friend of mine. Her daughter was murdered last year, and it was a HUGE deal out here. Now she wants to make a documentary that celebrates her daughter's life. To read the details you can go here, and there's a long list of newspaper entries in chronological order documenting all of the events as they unfolded.
But I've worked with her mother before on various video projects so she brought this to me first and asked if I would do it for her. I obviously said yes, and offered to do it for free. Editing starts Tuesday, and then there's a premiere at the Lincoln Center here in town on January 18th. After that the DVD goes national, and I think it's going to be highlighted on Oprah (they're still discussing details) shortly after that. The cool thing is I'll be doing all of the editing and all of the DVD menu systems (as well as all post production aspects), and there's a local television station wanting to see my work as soon as its done, as they want to offer me a position as an editor depending on the quality I put out. So I have the big guns (David Priest, president of Shadow Play Films) offering to view and assist me with my rough cut. I'm extremely flattered that he has offered to assist, as he's extremely busy and VERY VERY good at what he does. Here's a line from the email he sent:

"We would certainly be willing to help for free. I just want to see this be the best it can and I think we could contribute to it's power to move people."

So I'm obviously taking him up on his offer. I can do something decent with a project like this, but with his guidance it can be amazing. I'm really excited to get a chance to work with him on something of this magnitude.
I'm just glad I'm starting to live out a dream, and be a small insignificant part of the film industry. Even though this project may only premiere with a couple hundred people it will still be something that I'm not only proud to be a part of, but something that I had an important hand in.
I'm also working on my first screenplay. It's going to be a short film, and I'm hoping to get it into one of the small indie festivals locally if all works out. Luckily I have an HDTV DV camera at my disposal, so I can shoot it in true anamorphic (though it's going to be transfered to B&W, so you won't see the range of colors that HDTV offers) and then mix it in 5.1. Due to the nature of this piece it won't have a strong 5.1 mix though, probably only ambient noises. I have a friend who composes, and he's offered to donate his time to my film, since I really have no budget, heh. He's really really good though, and I'm excited that he's on-board. The only problem I see is casting. I've had to cast other projects recently and it's a bear to get through that whole process. And with this, it's not something I'm doing for anyone else, so I've got to be really particular on who I cast, as they're going to be trying to convey what I've put on paper. So it's important to find someone really easy to work with.
So I've only worked on a few scattered projects until now...but with the Lacy Miller thing and my own short films things may start getting busier for me. All I know is it's definitely not time to quit my daytime job ;)

Love Interest(s):
This is usually where I have the silly stories that get everyone laughing, as my life seems to be very Charlie Brown in this arena. I can't say I've found anyone yet. I thought I did.
Two weeks ago Sunday I went to lunch with my friends Chris and Lisa. Lisa knows someone who I think is EXTREMELY cute, so she invited her to lunch so we could meet. Lisa said she was single and completely unattached, so I was extremely hopeful.
Lunch went very well. She's really shy like me, so it took a while to get the conversation going. But eventually I started joking around in true Joey6P fashion, and managed to get her laughing. That shows she has a sense of humor, or at least has pity on those who THINK they are funny ;) She started joking around too, so she was coming out of her shell. All in all it was great, no real dead space, and she was asking about me, what I did, etc. So I mean, that's a good sign. Turns out she's a massage therapist (oh yeah!), with a side company she owns that does house cleaning. And she makes me feel all oogly in my stomach ;) She even mentioned that she'd seen some of my video work and really loved it. I mean, how cool is that?
So lunch ended, we said goodbye, and she turned around and said how nice it was to meet me, and I said the same about her. I got in my car, and flew home, all excited, and on Cloud 9. But, this is me we're talking about. So of course, Lisa calls and says, "Uh, Joey, I'm sorry, REALLY REALLY sorry..." I'm all, "Trust me, you have NOTHING to be sorry for, lunch went awesome, I REALLY like her!!!" And Lisa goes, "well, we were sitting around talking around our cars, and I asked her what she was gonna do when she got home and she said she was going to call her boyfriend..." Doh! Dang it!
Here's the REAL tragedy...we'd been trying to set this lunch up for a month...she had to cancel once, I had to cancel once (I was at a video production course that I was given a full scholarship to), Lisa had to cancel once. So it had been one month trying to get this going...but at that point, she'd been only dating this dude for a few weeks. So had this gone off as planned originally, it may have worked. Sucks, huh?
Lisa says someone told her recently that they really, really liked me, but she won't tell me who. She says I already wrote this person off apparently when she had originally told me about her. Ooops. So I'll never find out who it is.
I was at the Onyx one night and a friend of a friend was there, and we hit it off really well. We talked ALL night and everything. At the end of the night she asked me to cruise over to her place. I didn't think it was a good idea, as we'd both been drinking...so I politely declined, BUT I invited her out that next week, and she said she wanted to go. But she was a friend of a friend, so we had a mutual friend who is also a guy, and so when we were all supposed to go out again, my friend admitted that he slept with her that week. So yeah, I don't think that's a possibility...no thanks anyhow, heh.
Unfortunately where I work now I see Mandi (the ex) at least once a week since she rides her bike to school down the road I work on. She contacted me a while back asking for financial help, which was weird, but I had to say no anyhow. So I'm not sure what's going on there. I'm pretty sure I need to stay away from that though, people break up for a reason, and I'm not so sure I wanna go back to that life, heh.
Enough of that ;) I've really enjoyed being single, and LOVING my freedom, but it's time to be chained down again I think heh. If nothing else it will give me more stories...

So yeah, I'm just busy working (thank god) and trying to get something resembling a video production company going...and of course, trying to find someone of the opposite sex to hang out with.
Is that a long enough post? I'm usually supposed to spam the hell out of everyone, and I don't feel like I hit my mark this time ;)

Oh I've also beeing playing Battlefield 1942 (with the Desert Combat mod) and Star Wars Galaxies (where I have my own guild, the Legion of Lunatics, which is cool).

I recently got the Indiana Jones Trilogy from a friend, that was cool of her. I really enjoyed watching them again. And of course I got Whale Rider, which is nothing short of an amazing film. I also got A Mighty Wind, which is my kind of humor. No hardware upgrades to the home theater, but I'm really happy where I'm at.

Ok, so that's that. How the heck is everyone else?

Joey, did I tempt you back to the Guide? :D Good to hear from you again. The only advice that I might think of would be about the girl that unexpectedly has a boyfriend now. It was my experience, when I was back in my dating days, (i.e. high school and college, I think we're about the same age) that boyfriends come and go. It sounds like you want to be respectful and not make a move while she's with another guy--I respect that, and would do the same thing. If you wait out this boyfriend, there's a very good likelihood that sooner or later they won't be together anymore. After that, you can judge the right time to perhas ask her for a date again.

Other than that, good to hear things are okay!

I had cleared my cookies from my computer before re-accessing HT Guide, but never updated any host file. (couldn't figure out how--I couldn't open the file I needed to add the HT Guide data to) Everything works fine now for me. The Guide seems to be a ghosttown with the new servers, though. Did we scare everybody else away?

Well, guys, I've uploaded a bunch of my pictures into the HT Guide Gallery, if you want to go take a look. I think this is the right link:

http://www.htguide.com/bilder/index.cfm?fuseaction=arkivbilder&userid=199&selecteduserid=199

We got our shipment of theater popcorn and accessories tonight, so we made our first batch in the popcorn machine. YUMMY! Just like theater popcorn, but we have more control over the butter and salt levels, even with the easy pre-mixed popcorn pack. (and cheaper, too--I didn't have to pay $5) Just clip the pouch and pour into the kettle. I'm going to get so fat over the next few months/years/lifetimes...

here's a pic of my beautiful pregnant wife enjoying our first batch of popcorn:

http://www.htguide.com/bilder/images/199/House%20Four%20066.jpg

We had popcorn tonight while we watched our Broncos lose in the last seconds of Monday Night Football. :( Gotta go to bed, so I can get up bright and early Wednesday morning and go see Matrix Revolutions at 6 AM

Ah, yes... I also ordered this nice little piece with my popcorn supplies. It's a powered pump modeled after the famous water fountain "Bonny Boy" in Brussels. It reminds me of the great water fountain in the movie "Money Pit" as well. I bought it to dispense drinks at the bar, but Jen is appalled that I spent money on this thing.

I guess I'm a pig.

Well I'm getting a little nervous about my interview this afternoon. I'm also anxious of the possibility of a new job. Wish me luck. Oh yeah I was told its good to ask for the job flat out. What do you think?

http://home.nc.rr.com/ejimenez

Paul Wu
11-04-2003, 12:03 PM
Eduardo: Don't ask flat out, that is. "Do I have the job?" But do it a bit indirectly, like so: Q=YOU! A=them

Q: How many people did you receive resumes from?
A: 200

Q: How many people have you interviewed for this position?
A: 10

Q: How many people have you conducted a 2nd interview?
A: 3

Q: So out of 200 resumes, 10 first interviews, you've narrowed your candidates down to 3?
A: yeah

Great!, I'm glad that you found my qualifications, and credentials checked out to your standards. What was it that impressed you enough to warrant the 2nd interview?
A: ...........

Q: As you mentioned in your previous interview, your are looking for a team member that has these credentials or qualifications. As we have gone through the interview process, it seems fairly clear that I possess these qualifications and more. (Something about what impressed them in the previous interview) How soon would you me to start, IF you were to offer me the position?

A: ....Next month?

Q: Great! So IF we could swing it, you'd like me to start next month.

Don't forget to ask how much, and get as much upfront and in writing before taking the job. Salary, plus increases, annual reviews, benefits, etc.

You have somehting nasty going on with your ORB,,It's now an X ..:bluezoned:

Going to get some winter tires for the Intrepid today.
I had left the Montegi rims on last year and they took a bad beating from the salt.
I have the original rims so I pick upa cheap set of winter tires for them and change them out each season.

The Chrome rims on the Durango are Salt proof so there is no need to change them up.
The tires are also very grippy as it's a lot of rubber to the road.
If there was a problem , you would just drive over top the other vehicle anyways!!

Morning folks xx)

Wow, it's been like a TTP class reunion here, with Joey and Bing sightings. Joey of course, always with the cool stories and female headaches... hey these are the best times of your life. Once you're married, the fun's over... well not really, it's just a different kind of fun.

Speaking of which, Heather went to the ER yesterday. She was having abdominal pains and someone told her to get it checked out, in case it was appendicitis or something. She went in and they don't think it's that, but just a bacterial infection. They put her on some antibiotics and she's home now, so hopefully it'll get better soon. As for me, my back is slowly getting better. It's about 90% there but it still aches in the morning after I get up.

Cool photo Chris. I've always wanted to learn to fly, but it's not likely to happen in this life time, unless I somehow become independently wealthy.

Took my car in for its 63K service and inspection. It needed a muffler but all else is well. I can't believe I've had it for 6 years already and it still runs great. This is the longest time that I've had a car. Hopefully I'll get another 10 years out of it!

Maybe a full time Contract. I'm crossing my fingers.

Trev, bring it on Dude, Lets settle it over a good ole game of NHL2003 on Xbox... :nutkick: Z06??? What are you.. A sucker for Punishisment?... Hah, ha.. I kid, that is one serious Corvette, but then if I had that type of cash it would be a new M3 or a CLS

Kevin, good deal on the Job offer.. Hope it works into your favor.

Andrew, cool on the Matrix Revolutions.. I actually didn't like the Re-Loaded one (save for some scenes), I hope that Rev atones the trilogy for that.

Lex, that is one beautyful car you have.. I'm envious as your thoughts are as mine.. If I can't own a M3, a E46 330Ci would be the next best thing... Or even a E36 M3 that I could mod the hell out of... Perfection :P

Hello Everyone!

We almost finished framing the walls and ceiling in the HT room today. We still lack the other angled corner to match and a couple of joist. Then will have to build the riser.

Nice progress Sonnie! I'm hoping that's staggered stud construction...cause if not you have a lot of studs what...8" on center?! 8O That's one BEEFY header over that door opening!!! Just an FYI...you can make a header out of 2x4/2x6's or whatever you're framing with by laying them in an "L" shape...or by just nailing two boards together...just a thought for future reference...the only time you need a solid header like that one is when you have a huge load to carry above the opening. Just trying to save you on lumber costs! :D Looks solid though man...nice work!!! 8)

Andrew, I updated those pics... maybe they look a little better now. I am using PSP.

Yes, it's staggered studding. I'm just so accustomed to making headers this way... right, probably didn't need it but it's there now.

Btw... the green arrow is a 2 x 4 anchored through the ceiling to the rafters. Just extra security for 2 sheets of sheetrock on the ceiling. The ceiling joist do not touch the existing ceiling anywhere.

Kev, hope all is well with Heather. Great news on the Florida gig.... could be your calling. Good luck!

That's a lot of toothpicks there Sonnie. Great job!

Bing, it is great to see you posting, and I have a feeling that 330ci or M dream will come true soon enough for you. :)

Trevor, 17K loss for one year? 8O At most it should have been 5-7 grand loss. My honest opinion, for a car you drive 3-4 months a year, that just wouldn't be worth it. Enjoy your nice convertible, and truthfully, the convertibles or ones with moonroof option are more desirable in the long run. The Z06 resale is really crap. Everyone really told me that, and that the Z06s are to plentiful to be really valuable at this point. They are rockets, but let's be realistic, how much power can a person usually use without risking life or arrest at the least?

I felt the eye of the law burning a hole in me every time I got the Vette out. In fact, once around the big block at the house, I was on a straight stretch, I considered opening it up some, and boom, there he was, a county cop ahead. Fortunate for me, I was doing less than 40 with the limit 30-40. But I felt he was watching me close all the way. I say you've got a beautiful Vette. Enjoy it, and save some coin for other things, like the kids college education or the wife a big diamond.

Hey Andrew, uhm I'm working in "New Product Development and Documentation control" ;) Seriously, My main focus right now is to look at packaging requirements and try to optimize the process and materials. In the Documentation side, I have to design and implement a new system that will control and maintain the New Product Design process simular to ISO 9001 standards. Those are what have been given to me thus far.

Howdy all...works been hell...not much more to say there.

Ya know...for a developer it's rather embarrasing to get a virus at home but I did  Klez of all things. AVK Pro arrived in the mail the other day $6.99 US for the program and $7.99 to ship (don't you hate that). For the price I'm very impressed. It includes a POP3 scanner and has both the RAV and KAV (version 4) engines and virus updates are daily.
It's not as well known as the other antivirus products out there but definately one to give serious consideration.

You can buy the non-pro version at RatShack for 9.99 CDN but I would recommend Pro...for the extra benefit that RAV's engine provides in scanning packed files.

I will post a review in the next little while in the Computers section.

Oh and Kev...no activation 8)

I'm playing with AVG 6.0 right now but will definitely check out AVK before making my final decision. I tried KAV 4.5 before and was very impressed with its detection abilities, but it didn't have the much-needed POP3/SMTP scanner.

For some reason I'm still getting hit with Swen in my Yahoo email. I've been keeping count and have gotten over 160 :bluezoned: of them so far, over the past month and a half. I'm baffled as to why this particular virus is hitting me so hard, as it isn't as wide spread as some others like Bugbear.B or Klez for that matter.

Chris... really not understanding your question. There are some bigger pics in the Spaced Out thread. Of course it's too late to change base/top plates anyway. I used the staggered stud method that most everyone else that did staggered studding used.... 2 X 6's on bottom and top with staggered 2 X 4 studs. Above and below the plates the studs are nailed to is 1/2" expansion joint.

Hey Gang :later: Taking a post break at work ;)

Gord, bummer on the Virus.. I have been using Norton and so far, so good... Activation is required in an E- Registration ;)

On the Matrix Reloaded.. It wasn't that I wanted it packaged into a neat bundle. Rather what I didn't like about it was how it was overdone and over extended in areas. Major Beefs?

I thought the Million Smiths fight was too "Yawwwnn". WTF was with that and all those Smiths?

Why does Neo have to fly around like Superman? If the Matrix is some thought generated reality, he should be able to just think and be transported.

Whats with the consistent dingy grunge theme of the real world and Zion, yet the Harbor Master control center was this total monochromatic white, clean room like something out of Space 1999? How is that suppose to fit in when the basic preception is nobody in Zion owns or knows how to use a washer dryer?

Morpheus talks to the crowd at Zion as if he is some Voodoo evangelious with that over clich'e D-E-E-P T-O-N-E voice... The whole Zion thing was too long and not required, and whats with the gratuitous sex scene only to find Neo is impotent?

The biggest problem, Trinity is basically dead one second, yet on the next breath she is playing tonsle hockey with Neo... Pu--lleeezze

I didn't really enjoy it in the theater, and I have tried to watch it at home only to start and restart it many times... I haven't finished it yet for it either bores me to tears.. or pisses me off with it's overly complex and overly contrived plot at being something that is thought provoking. While everyone may be blown away with the Leviathan depth of issues presented, the simple shallow thoughts and things are written way too thinly.

The only redeeming part for me is the Chase scene down the Interstate and Trinity riding that Ducati in oncoming traffic 8O

Wow, did I really type all that??? SORRY ;)

Revolutions, better atone the stinker that was Reloaded if you ask me. I know I maybe alone in this opinion, but sorry, that's how I feel about that one.

Andrew, I love the new Avatar, how is it? Everything you thought possible from a AVC?

E, sorry I didn't know you were sick.. Get well soon and best of luck on the job prospects as well.

Back to it I suppose :P

Whoa, Bing, I'm not sure if you're going to like Matrix Revolutions then. Hold on tight! A few answers to your questions--

Notice that in the Zion "Harbor Master control center" as you put it, you first see the operators lying in jack-in beds in a circle, with the same dingy real world. The white room with digital displays is a subprogram and a Matrix of itself that they use for the control center, not real life.
Neo's impotent? Whoa... not sure where that one's coming from.
I agree with the Zion thing being overly long and somewhat gratuitous with the rave and sex scene.

Holy questions Batman!

AVG missed it, or AVK? When did this happen?

AVG missed Klez (sort of).

I ran AVG(free) on Tuesday (hueristics on ,ALL Files). The resident scanner was picking up Klez dropping itself in my local temp dir but the manual scan didn't pick up where the original was.

I ran AVK yesterday and got rid of the rest of it.

Some worms (including Klez) can hit your browser cache, saved emails, or other places to ferret out addresses to send email to. Maybe you clear your cache frequently or automatically

I use Internet Exploder. And yes, I clear my cache often.

Does AVK use a transparent proxy for scanning emails (i.e. no changes to email client settings are required)?

I think I get you...Yes but for Outlook, Eudora, and something else only (have to look it up and it's at home) Otherwise you can use the loopback 127.0.0.1.

I'll verify that at home. Can't quite remember. The setup detected outlook express and made the appropriate changes.

Did you download/run a Klez removal tool from one of the AV sites?

Yup I used Norton's generic Klez removal tool and it said I didn't have Klez.

Then I ran AVK using the full bore double engine on highest priority (you can set priority levels to minimize the impact on your system resources), All Files, all packed files and bingo-bango...Bang Klez, you're dead.

:)

Ah, the Harbor Master scene, :phone: I never caught those guys being jacked in, however I though for the scene to be consistent they should be jacked in. But then the question remaining is, why should this operation require them to be jacked in at all? Docking the ships is a physical thing, no?

Basically I think the whole dingy world thing is overplayed already... Like they wouldn't want to even clean up a bit, or throw some paint into their miserable lives? :rollhead:

Heh on Neo's impotency :leghumper: I only said that for they were going hard then all of a sudden Neo quit because of his visions of Trinity dying...

Thanks for the insight :)

If your going to post spoilers, they need to be in the movie section and marked as such. I got the feeling like what I was reading was heading that way, so I just quit reading. If it wasn't, then I apologize. I don't even want to see movie previews. That's just me.

why should this operation require them to be jacked in at all? Docking the ships is a physical thing, no?

Total speculation....but...I would think that if they used computers in Zion for docking (which you don't see a lot of in Zion) that would give away their location. I speculate that blocking the matrix traces is internal, in other words they have to do within the Matrix. Within the Matrix, people seem to have more ability to use the machines. Course they have computers monitoring the Matrix and they have computers on board their ships. Who knows? Maybe they included it cuz it looked cool to the brothers. I dunno, it's a pretty out there concept to start with. The more you talk about it, the less sense you make :P

Personally I can't figure out where they were generating power from, so that the machines couldn't sense the energy drain. The sky is scorched after all so they are probably bleeding the matrix (and their fellow man) for energy like pot -growers. That said, those big ships don't run on batteries.

Who knows...it's one of those suspend disbelief things.

I never questioned how the ships in StarWars flew but energy is a big part of the reason behind the 'matrix' creation and integral to the story, amongst many other things.

Well, truly, DVD talk does belong in the DVD section. Sorry guys, but I have to stand up for what's good for the Guide. I just think guys should know they are about to read about a movie, just in case they haven't seen it.

Flip? What's that?

Okay, Trev, if that's your truck, who's the girl?

Got a LOT done on the theater today. Drilled endless holes in studs and pulled wire incessantly. I'm all itchy from rubbing up against the fiberglass insulation over and over. Going to bed.

Lex, I think you may have jumped the gun on that one. It was just a friendly disscussion on a show that should be known to everyone by now.

And while yes you are right, disscussions like this typically should go under the DVD or movie section, most of this has probably been hashed or presented already. I'm not about to go revive some 7 month old thread just so I can throw my hat into a ring that nobody may care to read anyway. Heck nobody here may care, but it was a topic of disscussion at the moment... I understand your position, however, sorry, I'm just standing up for myself. :(

CHill DUUde....

Thanks on the Av guys.

Trev, that ones an automatic... isn't it? I never noticed the new Bema Autosport stickers untill your photo. I like the newer 2004 front ends and would like to see it put on the M3. Notice the upturned corner marker and the smoother side marker placement.

It's known as the face lifted E46

Howdy fella's.

Pr@: The flooding situation is well under control. Roof is fixed, or at least for now. Carpets been pulled up and we've got some nice hardwood floors. We also had them pull up the hallway carpets as well. I don't know why they put carpet in, but we prefer hardwood floors. Have new paint in the room and a new light fixture. Funny enough, our previous light fixture was just a light bulb hanging down, it was pathetic, but it never bothered us.

Joey: Cool post, great to see things working out for you. Please drop in more often. But then again, like I should be talking.

Bing: Hey bro! Ditto on seeing you back. Cool avatar.

Sonnie: Your HT is looking great!

Eduardor: Glad you were able to use my little tips. :)

Kevin: Florida? That's where you want to move to, isn't it?

Chris: Loved that pic from the previous page. I was watching a program on TLC(?) on C5 pilots. Apparently there's only about 350 people that are qualified to fly this plane. So we stand in very exclusive company!

Erik: Sorry to hear about the move back to Bellvue, that commute is a killer. Hmm, I still have to visit your new home theater, I mean visit you, Nicole and Andrew this year. ;)

Trev: Keep your Vette, you don't need to upgrade. I can't believe I said that with a straight face.

Lex: Great Vette. Great BMW. I should post more often.

I just pulled the trigger on buying a Dell Axim X3i, see my post in Tower of Power. Got a great deal, C$329. On the web site, this thing is listing for $529. Unit has the 400mhz cpu, 64M ram, and integrated WiFi. Only available to those that call in and only for Canadians.

A few weeks ago, I went to the annual open house at a local HT store. I got to see some McIntosh equipment, JVC DILA projector, Dynadio, Runco, Linn, Mirage and McIntosh speakers. What impressed me the most was the JVC DILA projector and the Mirage Omni Polar speakers and the McIntosh speakers. The Runco was pretty blah. Finally the bass from all the demos was pretty poor. I had to come home and put on the TTT battle scene to get the right level of bass.

Went to see Matrix: Revolutions.

Still have to pickup Finding Nemo.

My sister is moving back from Toronto. She's accepted a position at a local law firm. This is pretty cool as she just finished her law degree. She's just back for 1 day and is heading out for Australia for a month, before starting work in December. We just looked at a really cool apartment about 2 blocks away from work! When she comes back, I think she'll take it.

Winnipeger's: Can I ask for your help? I've got a friend that's looking to purchase some property and would love to hear your opinions of the various neigbourhoods. I'll contact you via email, or you can contact me via email, when I get the address. Thanks

Everybody: Thanks for sticking around and looking out for each other. I love this place and I'm glad we're back up running.

Morning Sonnie & Sonnie ;)

Hey Pauly, ma Bro :yesnod: Good to hear from you. Sorry to hear of the flood, however it seems it's all under control now and the side benefits may soften the blow.

Reading you write about your sister's (probable) new apartment transported me briefly to Vancouver. You sure are lucky to live in Canada's most beautiful city. I love it there and It has been much too long since I have been...

Cool deal on the Axim... I could use a new PDA.

:?: Was the Guide down for a bit? I know Lex had eluded to something in that nature in an e-mail to me....

Paul,

Would love to help...I guess one question would be what sort of price range/ tax bracket can your friend afford.

The newer areas are all built to the outskirts. For NEW family style Neighborhoods: Linden Ridge (brand new), Whyte Ridge and LindenWoods (pricier).
Riverbend...North of Downtown

South East of the city you have Island Lakes

New Tuxedo for the uber rich (1/2 mill and up...way up).

Just outside the perimeter is nice developments like Pritchard Farm.

Inside the city there are finds in terms of character homes in St Boniface, RiverHeights (old Big 2 -storey homes that may or may not need work depending on prior owners).

All depends on what they are looking for.

You can find them all.

Build new
10 -3 years old
20 years old
30+

Mine was built in 1952/53 but has had many upgrades (walls knocked out, Hardwood floors (real ones), appliances upgraded, new carpet, new furnace (we just did that), newer Monster driveway, nice big de-ttached double garage...I prefer de-ttached you get the idea)....there's lots of home like that to be found....

The market is a sellers market right now...just so there's no suprises. The house up the street from me had a forsale and then sold sign all in the same week. I'm sure they got what they were asking or more, 980 sq ft built in '53 and recently renovated w. single, run-down, garage and a big back yard asking $125,000. Bidding wars are very common lately, 5 years ago the same house would have sold for roughly 95 -100,000.

This is slightly useful....all you need is an address:

http://www.winnipegassessment.com/AsmtPub/english/propertydetails/

Also http://www.mls.ca will help find what's available.

Hey Guys!!

OK!
Lex,,You mess with Bing, then your gonna have to mess with me too! :-y

Bing,,That is a 2003 BMW..I thought it was nicer than the new 2004 model thay had in red.
Likely, the one I pictured can be had for $49K as it's a demo.
I would jump on it, however the thought of a 6 cylinder gives me the jeeves! :P

Paul,,Good to here from you.
Congrats on the new DeLL Axim.
Also, I wish I could test out the gear you get to see in Vancouver.
If your sister decides to come to Saskatoon, an interesting area here would be anywhere around 20th street.

Chris,,It's a package deal. I think the girl comes with the truck. However , If I had to choose between the two than I would go for the truck of course. ;)
Bing would probably take the Girl though! He likes that kinda stuff.

Plus, of the truck...
At least there is a warranty on the truck, and GM allows a 24 hour test drive.

Trevor, you'd love the BMW 6 cyl. No, it's no Vette, but 225 horses with dual overhead cams, FI, and tweaked right can give you an adrenaline rush too. Besides, better not talk about mine and Bing's 6's. :naughty: We will :smackbutt: you.

The thing that sets the BMW apart from many cars aside from the very low maintenance is, with 100K on the odometer, it will be darn near as tight and quite as when it was new. Seriously, they stay tighter than any other cars I've ever owned. This 330ci of mine is quite a bit tigher than the Vette I had even though it was a pretty tight car. Of course, it should have been tight with 5K miles. Your wife would love a 330ci with the steptronics trans. :)

Finished up a pair of Kingcats tonight, built a sub cable, and an S-video cable. I've still got more work to do, but made a dent in it anyway. I've got a component BNC to RCA to build. I've got an order for a pair of 5 meter Kingcats with a 1M pair. I'm not sure I can build these 5M long, but I will try as soon as the money order gets here. Not before.

Hey guys, just one last post before hitting the sack... I put a new hard drive in my Linux box. The old one was getting noisy so it was time to get it out of there. Now I have double the space (4.2 gigs vs. 2 gigs), and the transplant went smooth as silk. Linux takes to being transplanted more easily from one drive to another than Windoze.

While the files were transferring from one drive to the other we watched Boat Trip, a fun little movie.

Nitey nite folks, I'm :tired: and ready for some :Z
