Hey Guys!!

Mats , that's terrible news. Anyways, let us know what happens.

Sonnie!!
Cool on the new HT room.
Some may say using the Goat Shed is a BAAAaaaad idea.
However, I think it is a good one. ;)

We used to own a Cat, except Tracey made me give it away!
She didn't feel it was setting a good example for the kids.

Very funny pics Trev! lol

It's happening guys! I'm really going to have my own dedicated HT room that will be designed and built with only HT in mind.

Bug is going to allow me to use my part of the garage and enclose it.... hence the above mentioned dimensions. This is gonna be so much fun!

I started a new thread over in DIY so you guys can poke your head in all along and maybe lend a helping hand. No hard labor involved.

EDIT: I think Andrew is going to move that to Spaced Out.

Hey again... another good day in San Francisco. Going to do some sightseeing tomorrow.

Sonnie:  Oh yeah! And so it begins... you say "oh yeah, we'll make this room into a makeshift theater", and then "well, maybe a dedicated theater would be better"...
As for your question, YES, those dimensions work. You're only about 1 foot thinner and 2 feet shorter than the same room I'm building my theater in. And mine's a 2nd floor theater, too, so you may want to follow my project! The width will come into play with your theater seating, limiting how many seats you can fit in. I'm going with 2 rows of 3 Clark Synthesis seats that are relatively very thin, but it's still going to be cramped. But you can make it work!

Mats: I certainly hope everything turns out okay!

Oh, and great flip, Andrew! I'm still considering a MINI for my next car. With the Cooper S and the John Cooper Works package, you get some serious bang on the car. (for a few bucks, of course, but the overall cost is still a little low)

No chance of me ever getting a Corvette. Just not my style of car, personally. My current license plate on my modified 3000GT says "WILDBLU", in deference to my profession.

Good Morning and Good Afternoon Everyone!

Cool flip map Eduardo. Is that a program you own or did you find that on the net somewhere?

Thanks Andrew!

Yes Chris... I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your HT build. Ours will no doubt be dedicated solely to HT. There's no other reason for me to give up my half of the garage than for HT. Of course I'll probably later get us a awning of some sort extended out from the garage to park my truck under.

I've got a lot of info following Andrew's and E's build. I'll be borrowing some of their ideas for sure.... then I've got a few of my own too.

redneck, a sheep, and a dog were survivors of a terrible shipwreck. They
found themselves stranded on a desert island. After being there a while, they got into the habit of going to the beach every evening to watch the sun set.

One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance.

As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the redneck.
Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it, but the dog got
jealous, growling fiercely until the redneck took his arm from around the sheep.

After that, the three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but
there was no more cuddling.

A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck. The
only survivor was a beautiful young woman, the most beautiful woman the
redneck had ever seen. She was in a pretty bad way when they rescued her,
and they slowly nursed her back to health.

When the young maiden was well enough, they introduced her to their evening
beach ritual. It was another beautiful evening - red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm
and gentle breeze - perfect for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the redneck started to get "those feelings" again. He fought them as long as he could, but he finally gave in and leaned over to the young woman, cautiously, and whispered in her ear....

"Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?"

Cool flip map Eduardo. Is that a program you own or did you find that on the net somewhere?

go to www.terrafly.com and you can find out a lot of nifty information about your area.

Make sure to check out the overview on the previous page of

Hey Chris... thought you'd enjoy this one:
A US Air Force C-141 is scheduled to leave Thule Air Base, Greenland at midnight. During the pilot's preflight check, he discovers that the latrine holding tank is still full from the last flight. So a message is sent to the base, and an airman who was off duty is called out to take care of it. The young man finally gets to the air base and makes his way to the aircraft, only to find that the latrine pump truck has been left outdoors and is frozen solid, so he must find another one in the hangar, which takes even more time. He returns to the aircraft and is less than enthusiastic about what he has to do. Nevertheless, he goes about the pumping job deliberately and carefully (and slowly) so as to not risk criticism later. As he's leaving the plane, the pilot stops him and says, "Son, your attitude and performance has caused this flight to be late, and I'm going to personally see to it that you are not just reprimanded, but punished." Shivering in the cold, his task finished, he takes a deep breath, stands up tall and says, "Sir, with all due respect, I'm not your son; I'm an Airman in the United States Air Force. I've been in Thule, Greenland for 11 months without any leave, and reindeer are beginning to look pretty good to me. I have one stripe; it's two-thirty in the morning, the temperature is 40 degrees below zero and my job here is to pump sh*t from your aircraft. Now just exactly what form of punishment did you have in mind?"

I'm not realy sure what a hamlet is... But I saw it used in the local paper recently to describe Mitchell. Mitchell is a larger bedroom comunity 5km outside Steinbach - which just had a liqour referendum yesterday, 50.9% of the town's residents voted in favour of liquor being allowed to be served at restaurants with meals.

Andrew, my S-T-R appears to be SW6-7-6E.

Hey check this out - there are people on HTF who remember when TTP resided there: Hey, why the heck do people read the "testing area"? (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71564)

As I recall the admins drummed us out of there, and now there's an 88-page thread called "Testy" that seems to still be thriving: Testy (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91881) It's not as prolific as TTP, only 88 pages in 14 months.

You could look up the street address on Mapquest, or a real map, and get the long/lat from there (at least, close enough for an aerial pic).

The guy from SC called me at home and left a message. Heather relayed and I tried to call him back but got his voice mail. I gave him my cell number so hopefully he'll call back soon. We'll see what happens, but I'm not holding my breath, considering how much I had to wing the assessement tests.

Actually I think I've got a street file for Winnipeg as well so I could find it that way as well Gord.

Conference went well today but it makes for a long day as the first presentation is at 8AM and its downtown and goes till 6PM...oh well its nice to meet up with people you don't normally get to see except at events like this.

Also sounds like I'll be presenting at it again next year so that should be fun. I presented there last year as well but next years topic will be more fun to show people. Funny how some people hate public speaking...its an intimidating crowd though as its a large conference room full of your peers. luckily for me I don't mind at all..that's not to say I'm all that great at it but I like the challenge.

Halloween!
Friends and kids tomorrow, Family, inlaws and outlaws on Sunday.

Andrews maps are not from any website. Why does DU have those maps anyway?

Where are those pics from Andrew? Those don't look like terrafly.

These aren't from any website since none currently exist for Canada. About 10 years ago though a company called Linnet coordinated an effort from a number of partners to obtain aerial photography of most of southern manitoba. These were then made available to those that paid for a license to use them which is how we got them. They're 1:10,000 scale for those that care:)

Trevor unfortunatly Saskatchewan doesn't have photo base library like manitoba does so I don't have any imagery of Saskatoon...I do have detailed street data though so finding your house wouldn't be an issue

Sonnie once you've zoomed in on an address there should be a tab on the top of the map to switch to the aerial photo's if they are available. You US guys have no idea how lucky you are to have access to the data you do. Our governement decided that since the govenment paid for the data with tax payers money the tax payers should pay for it again if they want access to it :M That's slowly starting to change but we're WAY behind you guys in that respect

Pancakes and sausage.... hmmm hmmm! They were great!

Andrew... that must be it... "if they are available." There's no tabs or anything anywhere for our address evened when zoomed that says anything about aerial photos. They must not have any for our area.

Oh the VOL's are going to crush my BAMA boys today. I'm usually not this pessimistic about things but it's reality.

Welp, time to get started figuring for materials to frame Snapbug Theatre.

I just ordered one of these (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=10402) to see how DVD's at 1080i look on my PJ ;lx

Assuming the hype is right I'll likely put my Denon 1600 on the auction block and start looking more seriously at getting a dedicated CD player. This will mean though that I'm now no longer DVD-A capable but honeslty thats not much of a concern at the moment given the lack of titles that I feel I need/want

Andrew, I'll be interested to hear about the results of that DVD player. I noticed that it has only a 27MHz Video DAC. Seems rather low, so I hope with the upconversion it works well for ya.

apparently the 480P image isnt' much to write home about but the 1080i upconverstion is supposed to be very good. Both Thomas and Jon have one as well so I'm sure Jon will be modding his soon so we'll see what he comes up with. There's some interesting posibilites with adding a hard drive to these and the layer change should be much much better given the PC based drives etc.

There was some excitement that it would be possible for the Saskatchewan Roughriders to host the playoff game. However, im thinking if that did happen then we would get a Blackout likely and we wouldn't be able to see the game on TV..
So it was actually good for us that the Winnipeg BlueBombers won their last game. Pretty cool with a three way tie for second spot.

Ha ha...too funny I even remember making a face for that one cuz somebody was snap happy ;) . Good pictures though. That one of Lauren turned out really well. Too cute.

That was a fun party. I'm gonna do things up a little different next year and lighten it a tad. The theme was rather ghoulish  All in good fun though.

One thing I have to learn is to spread myself around alittle better. I'm much better at single couple parties... I never know if I've talked to everyone enough. Oh well...you learn by doing. In the past our parties were always family so that's easier to do.

It will progressively get bigger and better. Music would help next time  (darn playlist croaked).

Hey anyone using NOD32 for antivirus?....I think I'm gonna look into that. Apparantly it's quite good and uses very little system resources. In some respects better than that bloatware called Norton.

In some respects better than that bloatware called Norton.I did a 30-day trial of NOD32 last month, it is pretty light weight. It doesn't catch trojans as well as NAV or KAV but for the typical user who needs protection from email viruses/worms it'll work well. It has an email scanner which is a good thing. If you're downloading warez from P2P then I'd go with Kaspersky. I'm trying out Grisoft AVG now. Like you I'm looking for alternatives to NAV.

OSIM folks, how's it going? My back is still bothering me, but doing stretches helps. I saw the chiropractor on Friday (took the day off from work) and will be seeing him again tonight. Hopefully this will heal soon so I can live life again without being in pain.Hey Kevin I'm gonna try F-prot. AVG's okay(sort of). I've used the free version but I find it misses the occasional virus that the online scanners can get.

I've downloaded the F-Prot's trial and I'll let you know what I think. It has a very good detection rate.
What viruses did AVG miss, and which online scanners did you compare it to? What do you tend to get? I've used NAV since '95 and have since tested out KAV, NOD32 and now AVG Free Edition. KAV has come out on top in terms of detection rates, especially for trojans. If you're at risk of getting trojans KAV or McAfee are great for detecting these, or you can get an anti-trojan program such as TDS-3 or Trojan Hunter. NAV, NOD32, and AVG catch some of the more common trojans but their trojan detection is weak compared to KAV, and their virus detection.

As far as viruses go, I mostly see the common email worms (Klez, Swen, Sobig, Bugbear etc.) but I hang out on BroadbandReports security forum and sometimes people post reports of suspicious files and I have them send me a copy to look at, so I have a few trojan samples as well. :)

Oh, BTW, I use F-prot on my Linux box to scan incoming emails. I find it has good heuristics and decent detection but it misses a lot of the trojan samples I have, and it doesn't handle packed malware well. I could see using it or AVG as a secondary scanner along with KAV/NAV/NOD32. Some people use F-prot or NOD32 as a resident/email scanner plus KAV or something else as an on-demand (non-resident) scanner.

AVG didn't do so well with compressed files (this is the freeware version I'm talking about). Klez, and I had a palm virus from a legit site once and AVG missed it.

KAV looks like the shite but it's really pricey 8O . F-prot doesn't have a pop3 or smtp scanner which isn't a big deal. But I'm impressed with it's small footprint and ability NOT to be a resource hog. NOD32 wasn't impressing me that much with it detection credidation other than high marks on VB100.

Yeah it's a tough call.

AVK uses the KAV engine, as does F-Secure (F-Secure uses 3 engines - F-prot, KAV, and Orion). However, they use the 4.0 engine, while KAV itself is up to 4.5, so KAV will catch some things that AVK and F-Secure can miss.

I'm still up in the air as to what I'll do at the end of the year. I like Norton, except for its bloatedness in the 2003 version, and the addition of craptivation in the 2004 version. I have 2 computers, so I might just renew Norton 2003 on the desktop and do something else like AVG or KAV on the laptop.

This is a really cheap price...

Oops you said that already.

I don't know...at that price It's a heck of a lot cheaper than Norton and I've read some pretty good things about AVK Pro. I may just jump on it. KAV while good is pricey...unless you know a cheaper location. Their updates are almost as expensive as the inital product purchase.

Norton...yeah it's good but BLOATED and a resource hog.

"A RONSTER!"

Kevin P

Well so far in my testing KAV is the leader when it comes to detecting things, but that comes at a cost - 1 is performance, it tends to slow down the PC more than other products, though KAV is very tweakable and can be made faster by turning off some features, but then you lose some of that legendary KAV security too. If you have a slowish PC KAV may not be for you, though you could use it as a backup (on-demand) scanner. Another minus in KAV is it lacks a POP3/SMTP scanner for scanning emails as they're downloaded. KAV is king in terms of handling packed malware (e.g. runtime-packed such as UPX or zipped/RARed). However, it can't clean or quarantine infected files within archives like NAV can.

NOD32 is nice, though I found the GUI a bit clunky in ways. It seems to be light weight, and does well in virus tests, but it is weaker than NAV for trojans. It has a POP3 scanner.

Grisoft's AVG, free edition (6.0) is what I'm trying out now. I haven't had it long enough to form an impression of it, but it's pretty light on resources as well. It's not all that configurable though, and if I download infected files it doesn't seem to catch them on download but instead it catches them when trying to open/run them. A POP3/SMTP scanner is available as a separate download, and it works, though it requires reconfiguring email clients in order to work.

Even with trying out 3 (so far) other products, NAV is still my favorite overall. NAV is easy to use, updates automatically easily (OTOH the others do as well), the POP3/SMTP scanner works great, and it handles zipped infections like no other. Though its trojan detection isn't as strong as KAV's, it's not bad. The big minuses I see with NAV are it's bloated, it has activation in the 2004 version, and LiveUpdate only updates weekly (or more often in "emergencies"), even though daily updates are available for manual download. The only other product that I've tried that really impressed me was KAV, but I want a POP3 scanner.

Maybe I'll go with NOD32 or AVG as my resident scanner (since they're light weight and have POP3 scanning), and KAV as a backup, on-demand scanner. Or I'll just wimp out and stick with NAV, though I'll just renew my 2003 version instead of "upgrading" to 2004.

BTW, if considering KAV, the Personal version is sufficient, Personal Pro adds features I'd never use. There is also a Business Optimal Workstation, which is the same as Personal but you can get multiple licenses cheaper, if you have several computers.

I'll have to look at AVK. Most products offer a free 30-day trial so you can try them out yourself before making a decision. That's what I've been doing.

OK, so... now it is a fact. They kicked me out due to the fact that they can't pay the salleries. The servers should have been removed today but I managed to work out a deal that MIGHT ??? work till end of the week. The official Chapter 11 is turned in tomorrow and some sleezy judge will decide when the f*ckedcompany.ch goes belly up. It might be earlier that everything is closed here but hopefully not.
Through a firend I have atleast a temporary re-location plan for the machines and can hopefully start to move the domains to the new location during the day tomorrow, and maybe the machines in the evening. Not sure yet... but most definbately the power to the office goes off friday afternoon and I have to be out of here with my stuff till then.
Then it's breadcrumb days ahead for some time... I say it like Joe Pesci in the sweet song of his... Merry f*cking X-mas :x
Hope everything goes OK tomorrow and the move can start.
That said... if HTGuide doesn't respond suddenly, you all know why... Try a little later on and hopefully TTP FLIP's up again

Congrats Kevin on the second interview.

Congrats Chris on 1000 post.

Gee... I noticed I am over 2000 now but don't even remember when I did it. I missed out on my celebration.

That is bad news on the fires. We've followed this some and it's sad for a lot of those people losing their homes.

Well I made it home safe and sound. Roads were horrible but manageable. I'll be working from home tomorrow as well.

Returned a movie tonight as saw they had Daredevil on for $10 with a buy one get another for 1/2 price so I went together with my cousin and I bought it and he got Basic so together its less the $9 per disc:T

:sn :sn :sn Hey Gang...I didn't forget about you! :sn :sn :sn

First off...Mats...I know you'll land on your feet somewhere and thanks for all your hard work keeping this place running!

Congrats Chris! We'll have to have our wives coordinate a get together when it works for your schedule...I can't wait to see your theater! 8)

Congrats to Kev on the 2nd interview too!

Lex: My man, my cable supplier...you and your family are continually in my thoughts and prayers buddy!

Congrats to Sonnie too...for he'll soon be in the GHTG...Garage HT Gang! ;)

Gord...we get record rain a few weeks ago and now you're getting snow...stay safe buddy!

To everyone else...Hello and how are ya!? :D

Why have I been gone so much? Well I've been in Idaho for two weeks out of the month...but also I like many of us began to feel that the walls around me were gettin' kinda tight (feeling a bit uneasy at work and needed to focus). And just today I checked that I have about 350 hours of billable work in the next 5 months...and there's around 800 hours to fill...so yes I have less than 1/2 my time that would be billable and that's IF all that work turns billable.

So a few weeks ago I put out my feelers just in case my company decides the numbers dictate me being let go...so I've been focussing on doing a good job while at work but also seeing what might be out there in case it turns that direction. I've only found two jobs that were worth sending my resume out to....and....

A few weeks ago I saw a job in the paper that looked interesting and sent my resume...and honestly forgot about it. Then I get this e-mail last week from this girl I was friends with in college...she works for the company, saw my name at the top of the "to be interviewed pile" (which she said was a good thing), told them she knew me, and as she put it "put in her best effort to say I'd be a great guy for the job!"

I just about died! I have not seen nor heard from this girl since 1994/95...we chatted on the phone later that day, she too is married with one little one, and we're going to catch up over coffee or something this Wednesday. Then, just about five minutes ago, I get an e-mail from the principal of the company asking for an interview next Tuesday, Nov. 4th! So, yes I'm going and I'm going to see what they have to say...the best time to look for a job is when you have one....plus the job sounds a lot more "fun" then what I do now too...so that's kind of a bonus! We'll see...

So gents...that's why I've been missing in action...I guess trying to focus on getting more action...of the 9-5 type of course that pays every two weeks and doesn't involve street walking....I know some of you and what you thought!!! ;)

So there...besides that...Nicole is doing great...we're 7 weeks from Little Farstad number 2 and we're loving and livin' life!

Have a great week fellas!

The fires are aweful for sure. That is a horrific sight, someone's home, but most important, the lives lost in all the area. :(

Thanks E, we need them all.

Most of you probably don't know my daughter's knee swelled up last week with fluid. She's been in pain for a week, had it drained, had tests ran. She's on a treatment now, I wasn't happy about her doing. But the Dr advised, and we listened even if against my better judgement. If she's not better within this week, we will seek the advice of an orthopedic specialist.

Dad was in the hospital all week last week. He was very sick. Potasium dangerously low, sodium as well. Serious swelling in his legs. Dad's just been through it lately and there's no signs of things improving any time soon. He's got to restart chemo when they get him stablized. So, that too will wear badly on him. I was there with him every evening last week after work.

So, stressed does not begin to convey my emotional state currently. Then to top all that off, the forum problem, my friend Mats job, as well as my own remorse over my recent car trade, and what I see as screwing up royally. It's certainly not that the Vette is a bad car. It's a fantastic ride. I just don't think it's the right ride every day for my main car. The dealer tried to stick it to me to bail out and get something else. Frankly, he shocked the shit out of me. I am pissed.

Yes, I have my truck, but she's aging, and I don't know how long it will hold up. There's other problems, but should I go on? I think you get the picture.

I and my family basically got a real mess for a life right now. Maybe the sun will shine another day. I sure hope so. So, if you think I am scarce, I am. If you think I don't feel like being Mr HappE? Your right, I don't. So, it's better to just chill for a bit until I am back in the swing of things. That is if we have a place to come back to.

l8er all,
Lex

Lex,,
Buddy!

That is a lot of stressful events you are dealing with now.
I am sure your Dad appreciates that you are there for him after your workday is done. Continue to be there for support.
I didn't know about your daughter. Hope she gets well soon. Hopefully it is something that can be healed.

As for the Vette!
It will grow on you over time..It's only a vehicle,,, so try not to let it bother you too much.. I would hold onto it for a while,, it's not going to depreciate in value..you have more important worries right now.

Your family is the concern..continue to be there for them. It's OK to be scarce around here for a while as you have more important places to be.
Take care of your family, and they will take care of you.

We are here for support!

PS,,If the Guide goes down,,I'll just buy a new server to keep it going.
BTW,,How much are those things?

Yikes, quite a bit of shocking news on this TTP page. I'll keep all in my thoughts.

Lex, I think as far as your car issue specifically, if you tough it out and stick with the car long-term, it will pay off emotional dividends to you. There have been several times over the past 6 years where it would have been advantageous for me to sell my supercar. I've been tempted many times, and even put it up for sale and made ads once, including the National Dupont Registry magazine. I'm very glad that it didn't sell and I still have it, and by keeping it long-term, it's become an emotional investment for me that pays off every time I go for a drive. There's no way that I could get any value out of the car by reselling it anywhere close to what I've put into it, but it's not about the monetary investment. For me, pouring money into something just to own nice stuff or show it off hasn't been beneficial at all. But making purchases that my wife and I enjoy long term have paid off time and time again.

Thank you guys. You all are great moral support.

Trevor, that's a bold and generous gesture by you. Certainly, it could come to us pitching in on monthly fees. I think Mats has the server covered for now. If he gets in a situation where we either close or take out a monthly plan with a provider, then yours and whoever else's offer of financial support for the Guide could better be spent toward the monthly expenses of the Guide. As you know, we have a limited ad base, so we don't have a lot to keep us running like some forums do. It's a catch 22. To grow, we need services. Once we grow, then advertisers are more attracted to us.

Chris, on the car, I know where you are coming from. I've had love affairs with cars a plenty. 280Z, my BMWs, my past muscle cars 442, Challenger, and current Mustang Mach I which still resides at my Mom and Dad's garage with front end problems.

I am sure I could keep the Vette until spring, and it won't change much in value. It sure as hell won't go down 6K like that dealer tried to hornswaggle me.

As the first year of the rebirth of the Z06, the car does have some collectability associated with it, and with 5K miles, that only helps retain value. The trick is, though, it has to sit more than be driven to keep them that way and it is a car that's meant to be driven. Anyway, I am sure I would think I could get most my money back from various Corvette centers across the country now or in the spring.

Maybe it's just bad timing, all the stress in my life. Maybe I will feel differently over time. But I must admit, right now, I miss the BMW way.

Lex

Man oh man, things are tough all over the TTP these days, aren't they. Where to start, where to start...

Mats, I'm hoping you find a new job fast, and a new home for HTG. Andrew emailed me asking if I could put a temporary forum up on my website, but no can do, Comcast doens't support anything like that, and I can't afford a real host. And I'll get disconnected if I put a public server on my cable modem. If HTG does go down for a while, I'm willing to set up a mailing list on my domain (something like ttp at patzcatz dot com) that would forward to whoever TTP members want to participate so we can keep in touch.

Trevor, your gesture is appreciated but I think Mats owns the servers already, it's just getting it on the 'net that's the problem. It needs to have its own static IP address, DNS service and enough bandwidth, and that's what costs.

Hap-E, congrats on the interview. How come you can get an interview on the first try and it took me almost 3 years?? 7 more weeks until 8O :baby:

Chris, congrats on 1000 posts! Your wife must be getting close too, right?

Lex, our thoughts and prayers are on you, your father and daughter. And I wouldn't sweat the Vette, enjoy it. Just think how fortunate you are to be able to own a Vette in the first place, most of us will never be able to afford one. Keep it for a few months, and if it doesn't work out, with the low miles you'll get good money for it.

As for me, hey my life isn't a bowl of cherries either, (well, all that's left is the pits). I went to the chiro last night and they adjusted my back a bit more and gave me some more stretches to do, and it felt great last night, but it's tough in the mornings getting out of bed and then feeding the cats. Can you say :bluezoned: ? I have it on ice now and will do some stretches later on. I wonder if all the stress in my life brought this on, since the muscles are so tight.

We'll see what the 2nd interview brings, this is the furthest I've gotten in the job hunt in nearly 3 years, but being an insurance company I don't know if I'll want to take it. We'll see I guess, if the 2nd interview goes well they'll fly me down for a face to face, and then I can scope out the place.

Oh well, here's to hoping that HTG stays up, or at least doesn't go down for more than a day or three. What do you guys think of a email list to keep in touch in the interim?

Ok guys, just in case of an extended outage, I set up a mailing list on my mail server so we can keep in touch if HTG goes down for a while.

If anyone wants to "join" this list, email me with the address you want "joined", or post to that effect here (if you want your HTG registered email address, you don't have to give it to me). I'll add it to the list and then any emails sent to the list will be forwarded to you. Also, if you want your address removed, email me and let me know.

The address for posting to the list is ttp at patzcatz dot com. Note that I obfuscated the address to keep spambots/viruses from picking it up.

The list is unmoderated, meaning anything sent to the address will be forwarded to everyone on the list, so try to keep the address out of spammers' hands and off public websites. I do have a virus filter set up on it, so if someone gets infected and tries to hit the list with a virus it won't be passed along.

If this list catches on, we can use it to pass on news of HTG's status, if it does go down for a while, and everyone on the list can be notified when it's back up and running!

For those of us with interviews. Helpful hints from Paul:

They'll ask you some lame stuff, your strengths, weaknesses, that kinda stuff. They may ask, when were you in a difficult situation or stressful situation, and how did you handle it? Essentially they want to hear that you can manage the situation and put a decent positive spin, without breaking down and blaming everyone. [coughpointyhairbosscough]

When they open up the floor for you to ask questions, make sure you ask some really good ones. For example: I'm not entirely familiar with your industry, I would imagine there's some competition so I was curious, what rank do you see your company in? (You may know this already, or they may have told you in the very beginning) Then follow it up, ie you've been told what rank they are in, In the next 5 years, do you have plans to increase your market share or increase your rankings? This shows you're interested in the company longterm, and you want to make sure they are still around.

Any other insightful tips are appreciated. ;)

I figure since I can't simply start up a forum of my own the mailing list is a stopgap measure in times of crisis.

My lens filter arrived today and it definalty improves the image from my 1HD projector:T Erik I'd suggest you look at buying one for yours as well given the cheap cost. This FLD filter is designed to cut down the green passing though it which on LCD projectors really helps ballence the image nicely. Fleshtones are now much more natural looking vs the green tinge they had before. Its difficult to see the green tinge when looking at the image before hand but with the filter in hand moving it in and out of place quickly illustrates how green it was before. It also darkens the image a bit which improves the perceived contrast so for what I paid for it IMO its well worth the effort.

Yeah its amazing how fast the post count climbs when you're posting to the TTP and Club Rotel ;) You know what's scary though is if you stop to think that if every post took a minute that would mean I've spent the equivalent of a solid week typing 8O

Of course 10K is still less then half of what Pat Sun has on HTF :B

Kev: Go ahead and add me to the list, please, with my HTG E-mail.
Chris, I don't see an email in your profile. You must have it hidden, or left it blank. Email me with the address you want added and I'll add it.

Pr@, congrats on 10K! That's a lot of typing! Of course, how many of those were flip runs!

I'm doing a selfish post pad. Just so I can have 1/10 of Pr@'s posts ;)
