Mars Express’s High Resolution Stereo Camera captured this image of Reull Vallis on January 15th from an altitude of 273 kilometers. The channel was probably carved by running water. The imaged area is 100 km across, and the resolution of the full image is 12 meters per pixel. Courtesy ESA / DLR / FU Berlin (Gerhard Neukum).

Yeah, nice pic. It sure does look like water carved that out.

Got a new cable building item or two yesterday. I picked up a carbon filter fan for fumes off solder. I'm hopeful this will take care of the nasty fume problem I'm going to position it right behind where I solder, and see if it will draw the fumes in. Got a parts picker and a flux syrenge too that comes with a step down nozzle for small amounts. Should be a good thing. I've been putting flux on with a toothpick, a less than exact operation.

Good stats, that darn Trevor, we are going to have to throw a wrench in his flipping. You know, I was being nice and let him have a few. No more mercy!

Mats, a big 3, whhew hewww! I'm giong to project that Sonnie and Chris come on strong during the next episode. Eduardo is going to hit about where they are now. Me, a paultry 5 flips next time. ;) Mats may even get 5, if he comes around enough, or shuts the server down enough.

You crack me up Buddy  Always on the look out for something to upgrade  :wedgie:

As for the Antec Sound killer..Is a 4 DB difference worth it..Doesn't seem like much..
Mind you I am pretty sure my two PC's are churning out at reference..They are insanely loud again!!

Trev, remember that the dB scale is Logarithmic, the number which shows how many times a number, called the base, has to be multiplied by itself to produce another number.

In audio terms to increase sound levels by 3dB you need twice the power, so if you had a 50watt amp that was producing 60dB, you would need a 100 watt amp to increse that to 63dB....

So while 4 (by itself) may not seem like much, it can be considered a substantial amount based on the dB log scale.

What's that mean in relative terms? Well if you have a PC that is a screamer with 7000 RPM fans all over the place, the Antec Noise Killer isn't going to help much as there are other areas that would net you bigger gains in silence, such as a fan bus or slower fans. However, if you have medium to minimal amount of noise from the case, the Antec noise Killers will extract the last bit of silence from your system.

I notice it has made a significant difference for my system, I'm grinning while I'm siting beside my PC. Now I'm wanting to look for even more ways to make like it's not on.. Of course not at the expense of air flow and cooling :D

Man I remember when I came over to your place when you had the 60mm 7200RPM Delta Black Label screamer on your CPU, that was freeking loud! ;b>'>

Then you wreaked your power supply trying to make it quiet, even after I warned you not to take it apart and wait until you bought a new CPU cooler :smackbutt:

That was good times my friend... So what have you done that has made your system so loud again?

Sonnie damn those accountant types always adding stuff up...I guess I missed a couple  I missed the fact you'd already done the tally...so I guess not only did I count wrong I also wasted an hour

As for the increased noise. I rebuilt the PC that I had gutted
to make my Blue Zone PC.
I am using my old AMD 1700+ processor in it.
I can't remember what I am using for a Processor fan. It may be the stock AMD fan and that may be the culprit.
I will have to investigate, however my Den is cursed of the loud PC fan noise.
Avantage to this?? I am racking up the Seti points in a big way!! :yesnod:

I remember clearly when you made me wreck my power supply fan..Now wait a minute,,You wrecked it, not me!!

I found a new bonus with the new HD cable box. The box is decoding all paid channels. I have so many movie channels now. :D

Some sweet looking cases. I have to cut out my fan grills and either change my PS or the fans in the PS.

Trev - check out my thread about upgrading my fan and heat sink. It made major differences in case temp and noise.

Bing was the hot shooter tonight. We were able to play a few games.

Hey Gang :later:

Trev, so you have your old PC going in the same room? No wonder that is loud  1 PC is loud enough, let alone 2. Fire up the lap top and you'll have 3 going.. You don't need no styeekin silly-cone noise killer, you need a server room

I remember it as you breaking the PS, cause you wanted this new one with blue LED fans, and you had to get it by Tracy somehow... :smackbutt:

Marvin Martin is too static looking with not enough motion or something ;)

EJ, that was fun indeed, that last Mission was a crazy one, good thing you cleared out the remaining SW post, as I was all but done for... I was getting shot from all around, and i could not see where it was coming from.. Then you secured it just in time :T :T

I am using my old AMD 1700+ processor in it.

Trev, that speed processor can be made, ultra quiet, like you can't tell it's on. You can get a cheaper thermalright heatsink (you don't need the 92 mm models) and load it up with Vantec Stealths (80mm) run them all at 7 or 5 volts (Bing could help you with that) and it will be silent.... Ask Andrew, when I had my 1800XP in silent mode, it was quiet. Antec TruePower series power supplies include a couple of fan only 4-pin connectors that essentially do the 7 volt trick for you and when necessary, speed up the RPM's (but it takes quite a bit of heat before that happens). Another method is to add a voltage switch. http://www.thermaltake.com/images/accessories/FanSpeedSetting/a1268a.jpg Thermaltake makes these I believe.

Or add a bay bus.
http://www.frostytech.com/articleimages/200309/vantecnxp205_light.jpg

You can run those low speed fans at a low voltage and still get great performance especially on a 1700XP. Something to think about.

The big benefit of the case you are looking at is, without a doubt, 120mm fans. For that I'd recommend evercool aluminum 120mm fans which offer a great balance of high CFM and low noise. Plus they look REALLY COOL!
http://www.bigfootcomputers.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/fans/aluminum_big.jpg

Because they are high CFM and fairly low noise to start with they are extremely popular with the silent pc crowd and offer great performance at 7 volts. Check out the forums at silentpcreview (http://www.silentpcreview.com)

Nice case Trev!

Hey, Boyz... http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/a/wavey.gif

What, no TTP XII yet?

I've been tied up lately, as relatives are arriving for the baby homage. Theater's not fully complete with wall treatments and everything, but short of carpet it's a fully functioning room at least. So I think a few of us will sit in there and watch the Super Bowl tomorrow. It'll be the first time with the theater in action with all the equipment, even if it is missing a few parts. (kind of like the 2nd Death Star in "Jedi", I suppose) Not going to be the big party I was originally planning, but the big theater premier will just have to wait a few months.

Bing, love the new Avatar

Lex, great Mars pictures. Interesting stuff. What's interesting is looking at the tracks of the little buggy there. It seems that they have it stop every few yards and do a 360, maybe taking pictures.

I might have some interesting theater business to report over the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned!

E, hope your theater bid goes well! And the next job interview, too.

Gordon, meetin' long-lost relatives on TTP! Wow... funny stuff, and a small world.

Sorry for the other discussion stuff I missed...

Gettin' closer huh Chris... I can't wait to see the Super Bowl in HD myself. We've got a couple of friends coming over. The ladies only care about a seeing a few commercials and the halftime show. Us men will be all about the game. It should be a good one too.

Yeah Andrew... our HT room had exceeded our expectations and we are enjoying it so much. Angibug ask me early yesterday evening to go in the HT room and show her how to start Reba up so she could watch a little before our friends came over. I'm likin' it so much I'm gonna have to watch every DVD I own once again.

Yeah its a small world alright. Years ago I was in Japan and a keynote speaker got up to talk to us and she was a blond so she stood out like a sore thumb in a room full of dark haired Japanese people. Anyway she starts talking and she has this strong british accent so I went to talk to her afterwards to see where she was from etc...turns out she was originally from the village next to ours and she knew most of my relatives! In the Toyko airport too a guy came up to us asking if we had a pen. I noticed he had a Canadian flag on his backpack so I asked where he was from...He answered Winnipeg:)

Went and drove a 2002 Chevy S10 Extreme today. Only 11,600 miles. It's a racy looking truck, even if it's not that fast. 4.3 liter V6, bright yellow, flames coming out of the front fender wells. (heh), wheels, ground effects. They want 14K for it. I did a little negotiating, but left. I offered him 11,500 and my old daily beater S10 with 109K miles. They were at 12,500, but would probably come to 12.

The biggest hangup for me is being a little hesitant adding another payment. I would like to have the truck though. The biggest negative is it's an automatic. I'd rather it was a straight shift. But given my daughter's knee problem, maybe auto would be better to give her the ability to drive it without problems.

Doug on the logo's..on the top one i'd make that blue bar on the bottom black to match the top bar and I'm not sure I really like the blue ghosting on the lettering...but I know its hard to make white text look sharp against a solid black background so there might not be much you can do with it.
