:sn :sn :sn Hey Gang! :sn :sn :sn
Had a REAL FUN commute this morning...two accidents on two different freeways I have to take...took me a cool 2 hours to make it to work! Loved it...just listened to some tunes, called my bride twice, and watched crazies drive on the shoulder! 8O
Not much else to share...but have a great and wonderous day! :D

Of don't bother with the cable and go to an rf video tranmitter instead...though I'm not sure they work for coax?
Maybe...not sure on the cost of doing that. I would have to look into that, it might simplify matters.
The wall is exterior so there isn't alot of room (like nil) between the vapor barrier and the drywall (just to make matters more compilcated).
So your saying always fish down instead of up? How can I be sure I hit my hole at the bottom? I've done this before on interior walls but it was easy cause there was no insulation/vapour barrier to deal with I can't quite remember what I used but I seem to remember it being a bit of a butcher job in that I had to do a bunch of patching...that nearly caused a divorce so I need to be a little cleaner this time unless I would like to spend the rest of the winter in Andrew's garage....you'll let me sleep in the basement won't ya Andrew? I cook a mean breakfast and a killer steak! ;) ). I would like to keep poking holes in the plastic to a minimum.

For those fisher's of cable, ;) , here's an idear: tie a large enough magnet to the cable you're fishing down the wall and then use an opposite polarized large magnet to pull the cable down the wall to your desired hole.
I read about that somewhere...so don't give me the credit for that one, though I wish! :P

That's not a bad idea doug:)
I just had to rearrange a fileing cabinate for the moment to cover up a power bar. The problem down here is that there's only two plugs so all the PC's, printers, montiors, DSL, routers etc are all running off one plug with cords running around the room...yeah I know its a nightmare. I have the stuff to run some more power lines and get some plugs above the desks so nothing has to be plugged in below which will greatly help...i just need a kick in the butt to get it done. There's also a pile of in celing lights to install one day as well

Andrew: Okay, consider your butt kicked! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/7/ale.gif It's funny how we all take on different projects, blazing through some, getting stuck in different places in others.
If there's one thing I've learned about my lifestyle preference (hey... easy now) by moving around the world and living somewhere different every few years in the military, it's that I'm a pretty boring person that's happy just being home, wherever home is. You know in the past 7 years I've lived in seven different places, in four different states and two countries? That doesn't even count the places I've "visited", staying for a day, week, or two months.
I found I don't have to be near restaraunts, bars, night life, or whatever to be satisfied. So I'll probably end up in some place like that in the future where I can build a nice home by myself and enjoy the area, but I'll probably do it wherever the cheapest place to live in the US is at the time. Unfortunately, my home of Colorado has just zoomed the cost of living and housing market over the past decade, so I don't know if I'll end up there. Might be Oklahoma, backwoods Montana, or something.
I just learned all about fine Canadian culture by watching "Strange Brew" on HD Net. http://www.htguide.com/CFBoards/images/smileys/icon_beer2.gif That's always a good flick. Haven't seen it for a while. Take off, eh, you hoser? Beauty.

Really? You all have flying dogs and mental institutions that co-mingle with breweries for hockey games? Cool. So much for the realism that I thought "Canadian Bacon" brought to our two countries. (my other favorite movie about Canada) :D
Andrew... Pot lights?
Pot lights? Cool... hey, everybody, party at Pr@'s house! He's got the pot lights! I'll bring Doritos for when people get the munchies.

They's four pot lights to install but it should be pretty easy as I'm just piggy backing onto the existing light that's going to get removed.
Well we woke up to yet another blizzard outside and they closed a bunch of highways due to visibility...or lack there of. Of course with our office being out of town in the middle of know where (litterally) blowing snow's a problem for us...but it would pretty much need to be a hurricane before they'd close the building and we don't get many of those around these parts:) We made it ok though with only a few scary moments on the perimeter highway but things actually improved as we got away from the city which is unusual.
Anyway my PC's locked up at 100 percent CPU load as it crunches some data so I get to putter around unitl its done :)

Hiya, Bruce. Welcome to the TTP!
(anybody ever see/hear the old Monty Python sketch with all the Australian Bruces that teach philosophy? "G'Day, Bruce". "How are ya, Bruce"? "Good to see ya, Bruce")
Rather irked today. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/0/grngrinbig.gif I picked up my "Patriot" DVD case last week, and thought, "hmmm... this feels light". I opened it up, and guess what... no DVD. Crap. I went through my collection and found 8 DVD discs that are missing, including MIB DTS and Fifth Element Superbit. I checked with all my friends and family, hoping that I just lent them out and forgot about it, but nobody has them. Sooooooo... sometime, apparently somebody just chose to steal my movies. I'm wondering if they might have happened during my move to Washington, as I only unpacked my movies 9 months ago. I'm not sure if I've watched those 8 movies since then, but it's strange that I just noticed it. Grrrrrrr....http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/a0/angryrazz.gif
CHRIS
http://www.htguide.com/bilder/images/199/C17gif.jpg Luke: "Hey, I'm not such a bad pilot myself, you know"
Chris, I've about resigned myself to the fact that DVDs are going to come up missing. No matter how hard I try, it will happen. As the collection grows, this problem can be magnified. At over 350 DVDs, just think how long it will take me to look in each case?
Incidentally, I watched the Patriot just about 2 weeks ago. Great movie. Hope you find it.
came home after work today and crashed, slept for 3 hours. Geesh, where'd the evening go? lol.
Watched the Bachelorette finally tonight. I remember Maredith, Pretty girl. Hope she finds what she's looking for.

Hi Guys!!
Been pretty busy, getting back to work after one weeks vacation.
Lex,,Send them on, the Cables that is. I hope those 9 meter Tigress's fit into one box!! I sure hope they are better quality than my first set.
They came apart and I don't use them any more. I never got a good picture with them anywyas, so it didn't matter that they broke..No loss.
Chris,,How is Abby doing?? I am sure it's different around the house now.
Bummer on the movies,,Strange though. Thankfully nobody broke into your home. For sure they would take your Parasound gear instead of some DVD's.
Welcome to TTP Deacon!! Please send some of that warm weather up here. Snow is not the problem, just real darn cold here today ,especially with the wind we had,, Just brutal!!
Watched the Bachlorette tonight as well!!
Next week should be good. They show one of the guys freaks out when he doesn't get a rose, plus there seems to be some tension building amongst some of the guys.
We also watched the Average Joe the other night. Man that girl is nice !! REAL nice!! :yesnod:
Almost forgot to mention,,both were viewed in HD..Most awesome picture I have seen to date!!:T
LEX,,Just kidding,,Tigress are working just fine. Best components cables I have used in my system. Bet I had the hair on your back standing up with that one!!

Aw man, only my second post in TTP for a while and I just missed the flip. :) Okay, by a few hours or so - some hot pilot guy aced me!
My dog Cosmo is a 5-year old pit bull, yellow lab mix. We've had him since the day he was born. Some guy dropped him and his sister off at the SPCA minutes after they were born. Since the SPCA doesn't take bottle-feeding size animals they were going to euthanize them. The young lady there called Jen and we wound raising Cosmo and his sister on eye-droppers and formula - finally graduating to little baby bottles. I really don't think he realizes he's a dog since Jen and I are mom and dad.
Nothing major to report here. Just wanted to say hi. Hey Chris, where's that PM?

Morning, guys. Slow day on TTP. Abby's first checkup is this afternoon.
Lots of stuff going on with my theater project and business contacts today. Talking to several businesses, placing some orders, schmoozing some deals.

Afternoon gents.
Had a fun game of chess at lunch with a co-worker. I ended up winning but we cames across a situation that neither of us had ever seen before so I looked up the rules and learned a new one today! Turns out you're not limited to just he peices that were captured when you promote a pawn...damn it i should have had two queens on the board:yesnod: Oh well one of my dept. heads saw us playing and asked if he coudl play the winner next week...this guys very smart and deliberate so I don't feel too confidant about winning that one! Still my father in law has his PhD and I beat him all the time so all is not lost just yet.

I also have access to Hitachi's Service site. :T This give me access to service manuels, training and online videos. This is going to be great.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
This work day is almost gone-gone.... yeah!
Pat, I was reading about your camera in aud19's thread but it didn't sound like it was the king of low light pics so I passed on it.
Below is what I think I've decided on... a little more than I wanted to spend at a tad less than $500 shipped but it's supposedly great with low lighting and the absolute king of battery life. Plus I can use my current compact flash cards.

So, when Feb gets here, I'll be asking your support, those of you that are Catster's. Ok? It will be easy to be right up front about it in Feb. I also want to upgrade our 4:3 43" Toshiba in the upstairs room
to a 16:9 46" instead. The dimensions of the unti are pretty much the same or close enough anyways that it would fit into our Entertainment unit. The 46" 16:9 would be more suitable for the Hi-Def viewing.

Good Morning Everyone from a beautiful day in Alabama!
Coffee and donuts anyone???
Early bird catches the prize? Well actually Trev was up earlier but he ran out of room and had to stop posting. lol
Funny flip pics Gordon... those pics remind me of a story my mother-in-law tells us about Angibug when she was still in diapers. She came walking into the den from the back of the house and had poopie all on her hands and had wiped it all over her face. At first glance they thought she had gotten into some chocolate but then she started crying (along with a gosh awful smell) and they figured out then it wasn't chocolate. Of course you had to be there while the story was told... we were all rotflobo! :P
We watched Fleetwood Mac - The Dance in concert DVD last night in the HT room and it was awesome! We were jammin'... BAMA style! Ahhh it was 4:3 but still good music. They put on one heck of a good show. Very talented musicians indeed. I especially enjoy the last couple of songs everytime I watch it... the USC marching band comes out towards the end of the song Tusk and finished up the last song Don't Stop.
We got to talking about what all movies and concerts we have on laserdisc and decided we had to see some of them so I'm lookin' into a new LD player.... one that will play AC3 since ours doesn't.
I came across this fellow on e-bay (Steve Wilson from Texas) that has several Pioneer CLD-E2000's new in the box for $130 shipped. This includes the RF modulator. Sounds like a good deal as it plays both formats of LD.
http://www.hobi.com/hobi_main/auctions/te/28718FRONT.JPG
The catch is they don't play both sides like they are supposed to. For some reason the Auto-Reverse feature got left off of these. I don't have that feature now on our LD player and it's not a big deal really. On a 2-sided disk I have to get up....duh. He states they were purchased in 1993-94 by one of their client's (a major publishing company) to be used with an educational program they were selling to schools. Whatever they did not use they stored in a warehouse. They finally decided to clear the warehouse and dump the units. He's supposedly sold over 100 of these units with 100% positive feedback and has a 99.6% (232+) overall positive e-bay feedback.
Sounds like I'll spend the $130.

Ironically I was searching for more info on the above LD player and found what I suspect is the publishing company's educational package where these units were sold initially back in 1995.
http://www.snapbug.ws/images/thejournal.gif
He's also selling the barcode readers for $15 that can be used as a wireless remote but I'm not sure why anyone would need one since the LD player comes with a remote. :? :? :?
EDIT: I also found a site that explains what the barcode readers are all about. It seems it eliminated the bulky remote and the students used it to simplify use of the LD player by placing barcodes in their books. Pretty neat... but I don't see any real use for me.

Uhhh... scratch that LD player....
It has an RF Modulator not an RF Demodulator. What it has is for converting composite video to 75 ohm. It doesn't even have RF output for DD/AC3 nor does it have S-video. At least my Sony does have optical digital output which will do fairly well and will pass DTS for those couple of LD's we have with DTS.
And Lex... my Sony actually does have Auto-Reverse so no having to teach the goats to flip burgers.

I hooked our Sony LD up today and watched a little Reba McIntyre. It was okay video wise but nothing to write home to mama about. The audio was pretty good in PLII via the optical i/o. It will probably be that I end up continuing to use it.

Hey, all! :later:
I spent the day with my father, stepmom, and stepbrother today on the island. First introduction to baby Abby for them, so that was a neat day. My dad's in a wheelchair, but it was cool to see him just hold Abby for a while.
Strange thing--I got a pop-up window on my desktop from Norton Antivirus that tells me I have the w32.spybot.worm virus in my explore.exe file. The directions for fixing this worm are to reboot into safe mode and delete the infected file, which I don't know if you can/should delete explore.exe. But when I run a normal Norton AV scan, with the super-detailed scan selected, it doesn't detect any viruses. My computer's been running slower for many months, but it's seemed progressive to me, perhaps with just adding more and more programs to the hard drive. I don't know if I should try to fix explore.exe or not.
Andrew- I want a G5 too! Of course, for me, that means a GULFSTREAM five, which is the newest, super-cool Gulfstream corporate aircraft. Very groovy stuff for the pilots, and super nice for the passengers. (we call them pax)
Doug- Actually, I don't know Pl@ details, so you'll have to clue me in when February rolls around.
Sonnie- Did you ever fish your wire through the walls?
Ben- Don't worry... I've got over 1400 posts and haven't even made the TTP map yet. :(
Trev: funny, funny pic of the garage. I really feel for those people, though! (I don't know about 3 luxury cars, though... Porsche yes. That SUV and VW Cabriolet, I would say no)

5. One hand on wheel, one hand on nonfat double decaf cappuccino,
cradling cell phone, brick on accelerator, with gun in lap: Los Angeles.
6. Both hands on wheel, eyes shut, both feet on brake, quivering in
terror: Ohio, but driving in California.
7. Both hands in air, gesturing, both feet on accelerator, head turned
to talk to someone in back seat: Italy.
8. One hand on latte, one knee on wheel, cradling cell phone, foot on
brake, mind on radio game: Seattle.
9. One hand on wheel, one hand on hunting rifle, alternating between
both feet being on the accelerator and both feet on brake, throwing
McDonald's bag out the window: Texas.
10. Four-wheel drive pickup truck, shotgun mounted in rear window,

11. Two hands gripping wheel, blue hair barely visible above

slow day here on the TTP.
Well I had a productive day. I now have the wires snaked though the walls for the two power outlets on both my and glenda's desks and on mine I decided that if I was going to go to the trouble I might as well also run a coax and Cat5e cable down there as well. I bought a nice wall plate at HD that has two open sockets that accept a variety of input plugs ranging from Coax to S-video to Ethernet etc so in a double gang box I have a decora power switch on one side and on the other I've got a coax and ethernet port. Neither the coax or ethernet is presently connected but its there now if I need it. And I'll likely need the ethernet link as I think at some point in the not so distant future I'll need an internet link in the gear rack in the media room.
I also saw that HD was clearing out a bunch of stuff incl. a pile of pot lights so I snagged four. At $4 each their quite a buy and are very easy to install. I've got one if so far but the rest will have to wait till tomorrow night as I've got a lot of cleaning up to do before I turn in yet.
I also installed a new light in the laundry room/storeage area/work shop as there used to only be lights are either end and the middle was way to dark....now with all the lights on you almost need sunglasses 8)
Remember I said I cleaned my fish tank this morning? Well I had a Nemo story to tell that I didn't have time to elaborate on on my earlier post so here's what happened. My stuppid Pleco is very shy and it was always a hunt to find him. Anyway he decided that he'd had enough and so while I was vacuuming the gravel he decides to swim up the tube! No problem I figured he'd eventually swim out...nope he stay in till i was done and so I grabbed my net and as I dumped the remaining water into the bucket i tought I'd just catch him in the net and put him back in the tank...well I did catch him....but he jumped out and was now swimming around in the murky water in my 5 gallon bucket. Again thinking that I'd just dump the water out though the net to catch him I poured the water slowly into the toilet. Now pleco being the smart fish he is saw his oppertunity and he went from not moving at the bottom of the bucket to darting out and landing in the toilet! And of course he couldn't just hang around in the bowl where I could have a chance of catching him he swap up and up and away! Now there's me with a toilet full of murky fish crap and a stuppid pleco somewhere in the toilet bowl wonder how the hell I'm going to get him back when glenda comes in exclaiming that she needed the facilities! So figuring that i'd never get him back anyway I did the unthinkable and flushed him. He was a lazy git anway but still I'm sure the great escape of 2004 will not soon be forgotten in the Pratt fish tank!

Hey... flew another training local flight today. 5 hours of practicing touch-and-go's and such. Flew over my house quite a bit. I'll have to take an aerial picture of my place sometime. Hmmmm... on second thought, that might not be smart to post on the internet. :D

Guys!!
Just a real quick question!
Is a TV with 720p capabilites really needed?
Not sure what the 720p offers VS 1080i ..Is there much of a difference?
Also,,What is a good price for the Hitachi 51s500??
This TV has 1080i , 540p and 1080p ..No 720 p though.
We are going to replace the 43" 4:3 Toshiba in the family room with a 51 16:9 since it will fit. This is the TV that wil be running the HDTV satelitte.

1080P is what we want. :T
I don't know of anyone that's said they run 720P, if given the choice of 1080i. Strange really, since 1080i is interlaced. In fact, it's really hard for me to believe we settled on an interlaced number at all for HD.
Why won't it do 720P, that's the question I'd be asking. Just go with a 50" plasma Trev. heh, about 10 grand.

Yes Trev, if your going to spend the money then get a TV that supports 720P... IMHO
Remember 1080i is only 540 lines of resolution, Sure it's interlaced to give you a sum of 1080(i) which sounds higher than 720 p and functionally it's comparitive in actual image quality.
However because the image is 1080 interlaced you will still see interlacing artifacts depending on the source material, esp during horizontial motion images.
The 720P will display no artifacts and should have a smoother overall image. In the time it takes for 1080i to draw 540 lines (it only draws odd or even in one frame), 720P with have drawn 720 lines (full frame).
Progressive is the prefered digital medium, interlaced is the prefered analog. Your PC laptop/HTPC will look much better on a 720p signal over a 1080i should you hook it up to the TV.

The ExPressVu satelite receiver allows you to select
either 720P or 1080i. If 720 is going to look smoother , than that's
what I want.
Right now 1080i looks good , but only on certain stations.
NBC is astonishing in quality.
I will have to change my choice of TV..

NP Trev, inorder for a TV to display 720P it requires more expensive circuitry to be able to scan 720 lines in 1/60 th of a second. It's much easier and cheaper to scan 540 lines in 1/60 of a second and interlace the signal. So in the time it takes 1080i to draw a full frame (odd & even) of 1080 lines, the 720P has drawn an equivlent 1440 lines.
Note that most newer DLP and LCD are 720P capabible (digital), where as you be hard pressed to find a CRT (analog) that is capable of 720P, they are out there in 9" CRT, but those are probaly the Runcos and the Farudjas.
I remember reading somewhere once that 1080i is actually compressed due to the inability to fit all the information into the channel bandwidth, creating more artifacts ontop of the interlacing. 720P however requires no compression over air as such retains the original broadcast data in it's entirety...
Think of 720P as the equivilent of the Audiophiles choice over 1080i.
Sorry, I didn't mean to talk you out af a good deal on a TV. If you think your going to hook up your PC then sure spring for a 720P capabile set. However if your only going to view 1080i broadcast, then stay with the Hitachi even if it's not 720P native. It's conversion may look nice enough.... I know that I have been holding out for a 720P native set just cause I know it will be more suiting to my needs... That and I need the cash for one :(

Trev: Some people prefer 720p over 1080i, especially on fast motion scenes like sports. CBS broadcasts in 720p, including the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Most people visually see about the same thing in 1080i and 720p, though. It might be worth it to have a TV that does 720p just to show an HDTV broadcast in native 720p format without any conversion. Same thing with 1080i. But not too big a deal.

Yes I agree with Chris, on a pure theretical standpoint 720P will always look better than 1080i, however if the signal processing is done well, it 1080i can look pretty darn good in comparison.
I seen 1080i on Cam's Sharp 9000 DLP projector and it looked phenomenal, every bit as ggod as the 720p I've seen ho his projector. I think the crdit goes to the processor in the Sharp, that makes the 1080i look comparitivly equal.

Trev, check to see that the lower model "Natively" supports 720P.. It may just be scaling, which isn't nessesarly a bad thing, however think of it as processing, any time an audio or video signal is undulely processed, it can suffer from artifacts or degredation.. generally.

Good Morning Everyone!
Trev... several TV's will accept 720p but convert it to 1080i such as our Toshiba RPTV.
ESPN broadcast in 720p for their HD as well. But they don't have much programming in HD... most of their programming is stretched and ugly.
It would seem like that if Boxlight/Sanyo can include an "AUTO" resolution input on their PJ that the same could be done on RPTV's and the likes... instead of having to choose via a menu. Heck a PJ is tiny in comparison and cost less than several HD RPTV's.

Hey Sonnie, G5 is an excellent Camera! you won't be disapointed.. Nice choice :T
Most TVs will accept 720P, it's just that it scales it to 1080i as it can't actually handle 720p natively. It's electronics aren't capable of scanning at the high frequency required of a 720 progressive signal. The Boxlight/Sanyo is an LCD (digital) it can handle the 720p automatically because progressive scanning is native to digital. With the boxlight it should run at 720p when ever possible.
Chris, I did a look on the w32.spybot.worm and my thoughts are you are right, you don't want to be deleting the explore.exe file as deleting that will possibily cause you to have to reinstall windows..
Question... did you follow the steps of of disabling system restore, update the virus definition files and then scan in safe mode? My reasoning here is the worm installs itself in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunOnce
And that may make Norton think that the actual Explore.exe is corrupt, because it's infecting windows (explore.exe) everytime you start the PC.
I would recommend fllowing the steps outlined here (if you haven't already) Symantec w32.spybot.worm (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html)
and see what turns up.
If you have already and it's still showing explore.exe is infected, we may have to dig deeper.
K, I have to get to work... busy day ahead!

Also praying that they will at least match what I make now...cause this job, like I've shared, would be my dream...something I've always sought after...Urban Design....planning, designing, and creating...school campuses, city block renewal projects, waterfront design, you name it. This firm is the third largest architecture/design firm in the US and fifth largest in the world...so tons of opportunity!
If you can tell, I'm excited and so here's to good things to come! :D
Nice camera Sonnie, we need to get a new Digicam soon too!
Well...have a great Tuesday everyone!

Congrats E....I'm hoping for the best for you, you've certainly worked hard for it (from the sound of things).
Even if they don't match and it's close....there's an old saying...beggers can't be choosers, but of course, it's whatever you can sit comfortably with.
Personally I'd take a drop in pay over pogey any day of the week.
If this firm is everything you say it is and a bag of chips, the oppertunity to advance sounds pretty much a certainty which might or might not be important as well.
Either way it's your decision in the end...good luck with whatever happens. There's so much talent floating around out there right now, businesses definately have the "upper hand" :(
There's another saying I keep in my breast pocket that says "No matter what you think you know, there's always someone around the corner that knows more"...
Here's the thing...you'd have to think that eventually you hit the end of that chain and finally get to the guy who knows the most...It must be boring to be that individual or really exciting (depending on your point of view)...I'd sure like to meet that guy. Also, If you wanted to get metaphysical then you might consider that there IS an "ultimate" answer to that little saying (all depends on your POV). One man's mountain is another man's molehill...
I'm just goofing around....Gord's mind f@ck of the day :P
(boy this oracle crap is making me silly today! Must be the low density oxygen in this building...or all the incense that they burn next door  )

Thanks Gord. The wife and I have talked about cutting if we need to for an opportunity like this. I see opportunity when it's there. My friend from college has worked there for 6 years and just got promoted to Senior Associate...and most reach that level after at least 10+ years...so the company does take care of its own and treats folks like they should be treated...so that was very encouraging to see as well.
So, we'll see what happens! I'll of course keep you all posted. ;)

Thanks on the digicam. Buydig.com is my etailer... I ordered today and they shipped today. They weren't the bottom dollar Bizrate dealer but they had 75,000+ reviews and have been in biz since 1983. They were about $15 higher than the lowest but the lowest had all frowns for ratings. I am shocked at what some dealers are attempting to sell this camera for (the highest was over $800 just for the camera and that is their Valentines Day special). OUCH!
Okay... I'm not gettin' into HTPC ... it's mo money to spend and I've spent enough lately.

Downtown with the Delta Bessborough hotel and the mighty South Saskatchwan river, nearly frozen solid. The reason the west side of the river isn't frozen is because of the warm water up river from the Queen Elizabeth Power Plant, and because the river flows too darn fast!

'it was so cold that' the pedal stayed down ( even though I'd taken my foot off it). 8O . So as the car is rapidly speeding up, I'm trying to think back to drivers ed (many years ago ) on what to do. I pounded my foot on the pedal a few times and it loosened up. It may have only taken a few seconds in all, but I think my heart stopped during it. :bluezoned:

Good Evening/Morning Everyone. Been a winter mess this past week. Fortunately I was able to work from home. As Bing stated earlier I've been addicted to my XBox since I got my television. I also finally got my cable HD box. 8O Its looks so awesom. Discovery HD is probably my favorite channel now. :D The HD box sends 1080i signal so the tv does no conversion. I watched Law and Order in HD too. Can't wait till I have Gregg Lowen here to do a true calibration.
Trevor - I've been happy with my Hitachi 57S500. It can process all formats including 1080p. But my understanding is that it will only display 540p and 1080i . I liked the pic of the day.
Lex - congrats on 10K. Those are some sweet cables you made Trev.
Andrew - Thats a sweet looking case. good luck on your new project.
Mats - thanks for your great links. Where would we be with out them.
E - Great news on the job front. Its good to be excited. :T
Bing - I had a great time playing. We need to do it more often and longer.

Chris - Glad Abbey and Jen are home safe and sound. So what is the flight schedule for Super Bowl Sunday? We need to get to Sonnie's early so we can see the goats.
Deacon - thanks for the video it makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Kerri Henderson...the name is kinda familiar and I think I have a picture in my mind but I have to pull out a year book to be sure... Somewhere in a filing cabinet. I'll check it out.

Sorry Sonnie, "Days of our Lives" this ain't ;)
Actually there's not much to tell. We went to the same High School (as did 300 other kids) and had the occasional conversation but we didn't hang together. I kinda floated through high school...and was not one who was on the "A-list" so to speak. I speak most weekends and summers at the cottage so the majority of my friends are from there.
Don't you know about Aquarians? We don't make many friends (or have a hard time making friends or something like that :? ) but the ones we make we make for life. Something or other from a book on the signs of the zodiac....or maybe it was a fortune cookie (which would then be the year of the rat) I can't remember.
Happy Birthday to me :D

I is 33 :)
And my little bud Nick (or Nicky as he likes to be called) turned 3 yesterday.
Our birthdays are close but it wasn't by design.... He just really liked where he was and decided to enter the world sometime around 8:00 that evening. Actually he was born on Superbowl Sunday come to think of it. Our estimation of his due date was off so technically he was late but since birth is a rather natual process (unless induced) I think there rarely a "late" baby...though you hear people say it all the time. I remember getting to the hospital and Kathy had this really wild look on her face, 15 min later there he was 8O .
Far cry from #1 son where labour was induced (at around 3:30 pm) and the whole process took like all night long...I was sick as a dog (of course nobody cared...naturally...and when you're in a wing with several women in labour you don't talk about how you are feeling at that moment, especially when your a guy). She got an epidural I nearly fainted :P then the nurses started to feel sorry for me (needles don't bother me) ...I was realy dehydrated from the flu...(I know your all saying "YA-HA RIGHT") at around 7:00 or 7:30 am the next day Matthew was born, I cut the cord and that was that!
2 awesome and sometimes challenging kids (and whose kids aren't), my wife who is also my very best friend and a really annoying, and slightly (okay extremely) overweight cat who we put up with (I'm just kidding)...that's my crew! :)
"A RONSTER!"
Happy Birthday Gord.
Don't worry. I don't have any "dirt" on you. I'm just amazed at what a small world it is.

My wife and I went to a kindergarten seminar yesterday....Matthew will be the graduating class of 2017...my wife nearly cried when she heard that
That's really not that far away  Oh well they can't be babies forever.
You new parents...take as many pictures and video as you can (even the stuff that seems rather plain and everyday)...the first 5 years are THE most critical (the experts say) and seem to go by the most quickly....it has for us.
"A RONSTER!"
Your right Gord. My kids are 5 and 7. They're growing up wasy to fast.
As well as taking lots of pictures, my wife and I have let the kids display their 'art' around the house. ( gave them some sticky tack and let them go crazy ). Its is truely amazing to see how their creativity and skills with drawing and crafts can improve in just a few weeks. And its really great to be able to look back at them a year from now. Starting a scrap book for them is a great way to preserve the better ones.
I just wish I able to spend more time at home with them ( and less long hours at work ). You miss out on alot very quickly.

Hey Guys!!
Not feeling all that tough today , so I had to stay home.
Thanks Guys for liking my cables. :yesnod:
Eduardo!!
Trevor - I've been happy with my Hitachi 57S500. It can process all formats including 1080p. But my understanding is that it will only display 540p and 1080i
So you do have to S500!, In your diaria thread you called it the S700 , so I was confused abit.
How does 1080P look.
You say it does all formats, however that can't be true though as it does not do 720p.
I want to get the 51S500 , but not sure. They have to order it in , so I would to buy sight unseen.
I may go for the Sony LCD 50" Wega..Still deciding what to do!
BING!!!
What the heck is that themometer device.??

One of the e-mails came from me. How do you send an e-mail to yourself ?
Holy man that was a lot George!
How you get a message from yourself is the Virus performs what is called "Spoofing" It grabs user names from your contacts lists and sends (propagates) the virus to generally everyone in your contact list, using random contacts in your lists as the sender. Whats infuriating is it will sometimes send the virus back to you from a contact in your list, making you think it's them that is sending it to you.... Further perpetuating and spreading in an unprotected PC. Bastards :assimilate:

Trev! Sorry to hear you're not well .. still :wedgie:
Get the 50" LCD Wega, That's an awesome set and I would buy it in a heart beat if I knew I wasn't going to have this huge Income Tax bill looming  I'm bracing for the worse, and hoping for the best
It supports 720P, however it's weird as it's resolution is 1386x788
1386 / 16 * 9= 780.. So the LCD Wega would still have to scale or process 720p somewhat.. strange... 768 or 720 vertical pixels I can understand, but 788? Must be easier to make like that or something.
The device is a Davis Vantage Pro Wireless weather station. It is a powerfull tool that can track the environment and graph it on a daily, monthly, annual basis. It has a RS232 port so it can tracked and be connected to a PC that will logg the information in a data base. I have the software for that as well (I used it at work). It allows you to port the data to web pages so you can have your own little weather report station :) on line on the internet
http://www.davisnet.com/productpics/big/7862bull.jpg http://www.weathershop.com/images/wxlink-vantagepro-screenshot.jpg http://www.weathershop.com/images/wxlink-vantagepro-graphs.jpg
Features:
-Inside & Outside Temperature
-Barometric Pressure plus Graphing Trend Display
-Ticker-tape Forecast
-Inside & Outside Humidity
-Automatic Heat Index Calculation and Display
-Automatic Dew Point Calculation and Display
-Automatic Moon Phase Calculation and Display
-Rainfall for minutes, hours, days, month, year and storm total
-Rainfall totals for last 24 storms
-Rain Rate for minutes, hours, days, and months
-Wind Direction & Speed plus peak gust and timestamp
-Automatic Wind Chill calculation and display
-Time & Date 12/24 hour
-Automatic Time of Sunrise & Sunset display
-Alarms that can be set for most values
-Backlit LCD display
-AC or DC power options for the console, battery backup
-Solar Powered outdoor Sensor suite
-English or Metric Units display
-PC or Macintosh RS232 computer Interface/data logger includes software
With WeatherLink you can post weather Data and to a web site!
Out of that it calculates and displays many things like wind chill, weather prediction, High/lows based on seasonal, monthly, daily..etc for all parameters collected.
For instance in the last 2 years we have had 3 months with days colder than yesterday (-42C), we have also had 3 months with days that were just as cold. This can be viewed on the LCD screen, or it can be ported to a PC for indepth analysis.
http://www.weathershop.com/images/vanta.jpg
The senor suite is wireless and solar powered, it's mounted on the roof of my house. Although it does have a CR123 Litium battery for power as well, the solar cell has not required me to change a battery in it for the last 3 years.
The console can be powered by AC or DC. I run it on batteries, it too has not required batteries for the last 2 years that I can remember.
Here is more information on it if your interested.

I actually bought this for an experiment I was performing that studied environmental effects on Fiber Optic cables. At the conclusion of the tests, I had the opportunity to purchase it in an auction..
I think I paid almost $1,100 us for it with Software, and bought it for $140 cdn 8)

Maybe I should resurect the spanking girls from the show "The Replacements"?
The only thing the LCD Wegas is the black level.
Katherine and I were down at the Sony store we were
watching the 60" LCD XBR Wega and the 57" KP57WV600 CRT Projection unit.
Katherine noted that the LCD looked cloudy as she stated it.
This was due to the lower contrast ratio of the LCD compared to the CRT.
The image looked slightly sharper with out the pixel crawl that is typical of
CRT based projection units, however in contrast comparision, the LCD
was washed out looking (cloudy) against the CRT.
We were watching Lord of the Rings Two Towers

I agree with Bing that the Sony LCD Wega is something to see. On a true hi-def signal - it looks amazing. I would argue better than any other RPTV. Try and get a look at the 60" on a hi-def signal, very nice. If I were to buy a RPTV, this is about the only one I'd consider.
I would caution you that Sony is having some QC problems with their LCD TV's ( premature bulb failure within 90 days due to the bulb power supply and the bulb itself ). I would wait for the next generation at least before purchasing one.
Also, the next generations are supposed to be much thinner. The RCA DLP RPTV from the CES show is only 7" deep and can be mounted on a wall.
Just something to consider. :)

As Bing stated before I'm a crack shot but thats cause the enemy is viewable a far distances. Soul Caliber is 720p and It looks great in 1080i.

Eduardo!
So you don't have 720P capabilites, it's upconverted right?
Sounds good though.
I am glad you are happy with it and enjoying Hi-Def!
Just watched the Apprentice and finished the end of the Boston , Islanders game in HD ..Awesome !!!
Our discovery channel is poor in HD, not sure why though!??
Andrew,,Tell me about it! My Intrepid froze up as well yesterday.
That's cause I could not plug it in.
Tracey had backed down the driveway a while back without unplugging
and ripped the power cord tip off the Block Heater.
I never got it fixed and payed the price.
It was funny though as I had to take the truck to work which we park in the garage..
So we push the Intrepid down the driveway, hoever the barkes are frozen ,
so it was almost impossible to push. We got it down far enough that I was
able to drive the truck through between the front end of the car and a

This meant of course that I had to drive right across our front lawn to get to the road..:E
At least I got out. :P

Trev I can't wait to hear what you have to say about your 2HD. :D
Guys... buydig.com is for real. I ordered my G5 on Tuesday thinkin'
it would be delivered in 7-10 days as indicated for ground shipping
at $6.95. Fed-ex delivered it today. Packaged very well and
everything in order. An A+ online shopping experience. Almost as
good as ordering from Catcables. :D :D :D
Columbia House reeled me in again... not a bad deal really though.
It will end up being 9 DVD's at about $8.25 to $8.50 each. We picked
up several to replace some old LD's and a few others for the heck of it.

Hey all, I just finished installing Antec Noise Killer
on all my PC's fans, power supply and harddrives...
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/images/noisekillerkit.jpg
It really worked! :T
These are silicone gasket like items that are used to suspend
your noise generating items from the case,
thus not using the fans, power supply and hard drives as voice coils
and the PC case as the cone.
My PC was quiet before, but now it's even more quiet.
-54 dB Before Antec noise Killer
-50 dB After Antec noise Killer
$48 bucks and well worth it, I would recommend this for any HTPC
I was a bit surprized Trev didn't remember my weather station.. :wedgie:
Hey Paul, yeah my team just did a Chinese New Year celebration at the U of S theater, last Sat.
We were also going to be in the China Town New Years parade this weekend,
but it's expected to be -24C out so we will probably be
performing indoors at the Whit Buffalo Pavilion.
Trev, I'm a RAT

I'm very excited about the DLP RPTVs coming out.
DLP's black levels are vastly superiour to LCD, plus
it does not have the typical screen door look of LCD.

Interesting tweak Bing:T
My HTPC case is by Antec and it has rubber gromet like things for mounting the drives in to keep them quiet. I got a shipping conformation just now but that Seagate HHD is back ordered which isn't surprising given the low cost but it wasn't listed as such when I ordered it or I might have picked a different drive:evil:

E-Mail crap update.
I got about 80 today. Like Trevor, though, my computer is not infected. Most of the e-mails coming in are ones that have supposedly been rejected because of the virus attachment. The whole thing is just a pain in the ass. These hacker creeps should be given the death sentence.

Hey Sonnie :) ... Well let me tell ya Brau....
That is actually a Dragon, the Chinese have always believed we were desendants of dragons, and the Dragon represents the most powerfull mythalogical being to the Chinese people.
The dragon dance is an important festive tradition in China.
It was originally performed to appease the dragon, who is the deity of water, to ask for rain during drought years.
It is now an entertainment and dance form in festive occasions.
The Dragon dance is very Symbolic for each New Year to usher in good fortune, health and wisdom. Apperently the Pearl represents wisdom and all other good things thus the dragon chases it.
The dragons, usually range from several meters to more than 100 meters long. Ours is about 15 meters (50 feet).
During the dance the dragon chases a person holding a Pearl. This pearl is what enitces the dragon. The pearl will run inbetween the dragon (performers holding the poles) and the dragon head will give chase. The beauty of this is seeing the dragon chase in and out of it's self with out getting tangled or twsited in a knot. Although it has happened during practice, we generally don't like that to happen in performance as it takes away the magic of it all ;)
The dance is performed to the beats of roaring chinese drumers
which makes it very dynamic and exhillarting, even for us (the performers).
Our Dragon was given to us from the Goverment of China as part of our Heritage society.
It it a 9 man dragon, 10 counting the Pearl. We have 3 Drummers, but they drum for all the activities in the festival.
Looks like the cold has moved from Saskatoon to the Peggers

Nice Tweak Bing...I've read about it. Since you have an Li-an case $48 is a drop in the hat....however if your case is only say $80, it might be cheaper (in the long run) to look at some of the value cases from Antec or even the Sonata and you get a really quiet P/S with that.
Andrew, the Overture is built with quiet in mind (think of a Sonata turned on it's side ) and includes the grommets so a kit like that might be overkill considering your case. I do like the silicone spacers with the kit...that IS a nice touch.
Here's a couple of reviews of your case...
http://www.pcabusers.com/reviews/antec/overture/page1.html
http://www.ascully.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=307
One thing I'd suggest off the hop is to cut away that fan grill at the back and just add a fan guard or nothing at all if little fingers aren't a concern. That will maximize your exhaust, and kill the wind noise...you could try getting a small piece of tubing, split it and create a gasket around the edge, short of using a silicone gasket.
4 dB drop by killing vibration...I'd say that's pretty darn good.
Bing what's your CPU and case temp? Just curious.
TGIF!
Hey Andrew it just so happens that our new work pc's came with GF4 MX440's :W

Thanks guys, on my Heritage 8)
Gord, agreed, it is costly, however that is about the final thing that could be done to my case, short of dyna matting my case. The Lian-Li 68 has been a very good investment for me.
Here is a review of it http://hwextreme.com/reviews/cases/lian-li_pc68
The Antec Sonata is a very quiet case as My buddy Cam has it. It comes with the Noise Killer kit that I had just bought. So yes if your starting out with something that is low in value, it may be best to just buy a Newer Antec case such as the Lan boy for $110, it too comes with the noise killer kit and is a killer price for an aluminum case.

Link Here (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=10999&vpn=SUPER%20LANBOY)
Cuting out stamped holes and using round wire fan grills is one of the first thing any case modder should do as it greatly decreases fan noise.
My CPU temp is 32C Idle, and 36C max 100% load, I think ambient case temp is around 26C.
This is using an Alpha PAL 8045 cooler with a 80mm 2600-3200RPM fan. The biggest change I saw was by cutting in an extra 80mm exhaust fan at the back. Before my CPU temp was around 38-40C, indicating the 1x80mm fan was not quite enough to extract the air around the CPU. The back exhaust fans are 1700RPM Vantech Stealths, they are very silent, but do a great job of extracting air from around the CPU.
