I told you I could build it Trev, you never inquired further. lol. Hell no it's not ready, it's not even thought of. But I do suggest you get the order in soon if you want it, since Chris is planning to keep February quite busy.
I've actually some work to do now, 7 cables, and a component for another customer. But I'll work it in soon if your ready to order. I'll email you pricing on it.

Lex,,See post # 5 above.
You must have missed it!
Last night I measured the distance with string
for accuracy.
I took two measurements. One was going along the
floor and the other going along the ceiling.
The floor comes to 15M
The ceiling comes to 9 M
So the final decision is the ceiling route at 9 M
The Tigress is the best Darn component cable I
have used to date. It's a must for my FPTV set-up.
That's until I order my Denon 5900 tomorrow, Then its DVI...

Well Trev, there's an old wise "tail" that's served many people well over the years. (Note, I didn't say me)
The bigger the pad, the better the push.
Actually Trevor, the Tigress has been upstaged by a CAT to be. However, the price is REAL on this one. So, not many people will consider it for long component lengths. The 9 meters would run 1200.00 and that's the buddy buddy price. :P Retail is 1650.00. This component video has a solid silver conductor. Eventually, it's what I will be running here.
Not for the faint of heart or wallet.

lol Lex... too funny!
Lex, I did answer you one time on the screen a few pages back in TTP (you probably missed it or forgot - how old are you now??? hee hee). Anyway... no, I will not be ordering a screen. The long story is the wall is the screen. It is drywall that has been pampered with extreme caution. Primed then sanded smooth. Primed again and sanded smooth again. Then 3 coats of Misty Evening Gray with sanding smooth in between coats. No lines and a baby smooth finish. Right proud of it myself. I can't imagine a better picture than what I'm seeing right now. This is almost too good to be true IMO. I'm sure it could get better but geeze... this just seems so perfect as it is. Keeping in mine it doesn't take much to satisfy me. But truly what I've seen on DVD is only a grunt from being as good as HD on our RPTV. I think the screen may have some contribution to this.
lol to you too Trevor... I wish that were a Plasma on the side wall.
Trev, Angibug and I do sit together regularly... in the car, in Church, at games, in restaurants... you know. lol I had the black chair pulled over to one side looking at the Pink Floyd picture, trying to decide if I really wanted in the HT room. The Pink pic won't stay. There are now 3 Lazy-boy's in the room and I've tenatively postponed putting together the other 2 black recliners until tomorrow night.
Thanks guys on the HT room. I appreciate all the support along the way. I don't know that I would have actually done it if it weren't for htguide.com forum and my buddy's.
Andrew, I sure hope you aren't comin' down with the crud.
Oh yeah Trev... bummer on your screen. Maybe you should just cancel the order and paint your wall. Also looking forward to seeing your progress shots. Bummer on the satellite receiver as well. The 5900 will make you feel better though. :D

Ben, I agree... the Pink pic is too big for the HT room and it just doesn't really fit the room well anyway. I guess we'll have to give it to someone who can use it. It's been under our bed for several years now. BTW... David Gilmour is one of my favorites as well. I always enjoy the David Gilmour in Concert DVD we have.
Chelsea and I watched a little more of Finding Nemo last night... kinda testing the system. It's the first she's seen of it and she was impressed.

I used to work for New Flyer and she was in the River East school division. Now she works part-time at Mcleod education center as an adult ed instructor and subs in River-East/Transcona division (occasionally at K.E. but usually at Miles Mac or RiverEast (go Kodiaks :P ) and I work downtown.

Hey, guys... I haven't had a minute to get a baby girl pic off the camera yet. I will soon, tho.
Could use your prayers. Baby Abby is starting to show signs of withdrawl from the medications that Jen was on during pregnancy. Docs say it's still mild, but of course parents don't like to see anything like that at all. She'll be in ICU for several more days at least. Mostly just unconsolable crying, occasional sneezing, won't eat, etc. It's only happened twice so far, so thankfully most the time she just gobbles down food and is a little angel.
Trev, that sounds like a very good price to me. Wish I had one right now!
Headed back to the hospital.

Trev, I saw a price of just over 1600 USD. However, it was vaporware, they didnt' have it and according to them, not sure when or if they'd have them. I say, why have them advertised if you don't have them. I saw the Samsung and just decided to bail on a 5900, the Samsung is all I need, and save 700 bucks at least. Actually , it looks very beautiful!!
Day 4 of the Vacation and enjoying it.
Didn't buy very much, just another ExpressVu Satelite dish.
Likely I am going to take it back and exchange it for the model
with the PVR built in.
Rearranged my downstairs HT to make room for the screen when it gets here.
Took alll day as I had to unhook all my units and take apart the Audio rack in order to move it over.
It weighs over 500 lbs and would not slide on the carpet. I tried that!
I took some pics, so will get them up.

Headed to bed again, just came from the hospital. No new news. I got a few hours of snuggle time with Abby, though. That was great.
Trev and Lex, since you guys are Parasound owners (or former owners) you should drop in Club Parasound sometime and post something! We could use some extra talk, even if it's just a mini-review on your equipment. I'd ESPECIALLY like to get people talking about classic Parasound stuff, not just new Halo.

Good Morning Everyone. I am very sad today cause I had a bad yesterday. Found out some one is suing me for my fender bender almost 2 years ago. But thats not even the sad news.
Allison and I went to the doctors to hear the baby's heartbeat but they couldn't find it. :( I so hate doctors. Instead of doing a deep sonigram on the spot, they make us wait till today. So no sleep for us last night. This is vey hard to even write but I need the release..... I am still holding on to my hope that the doctor is wrong and everything will be OK. So if I'm not around for a little while, you guys will know why.
Peace and love to everyone.

Eduardo....no reason to fret yet....I'm kind of suprised they don't have that little sonogram box right in the office???? Our OB did...
Was the doc trying with a stethascope?
Or they did use the little echo box and now you are scheduled for an ultra-sound....up in Canada those things usually have a huge wait list so I think the extra day isn't too long....As a parent I understand the concern, there isn't a second soon enough for your kids...Hang in there buddy!
Chris, your family is in my thoughts as well. Same advice.
I try to live by "everything usually works out the way it does for a reason and it usually works out in the end"...sometimes the reasons aren't apparent to us right away....but it usually makes sense later on...sometimes much later....that makes life alittle easier for me...most days.
If you (the collective you) don't necessarily agree, that's okay too :)

Eduardo I'm very very sorry to hear that. We lost our first as well and although it won't help you feel any better just know that its actually very common for first pregnacies [approx. 1 in 8]. A good friend of mine just told me they just lost their baby as well and it brought back a lot of the painful memories from when it happened to us. Luckily everything went much better the second time round and Lauren was a perfect pregnancy. Hang in there and know what it happened for a reason and there was nothing you could have done different. I know its hard for us men to get emotional and its difficult to associate with the baby given how little we really had to do with its life up to this point but know that Allison is going to need a lot of support and tenderness as she deals with the loss. Its easy enough for you to rationalize that it wasn't something you could change and that it happens a lot to others and that the second try has a much higher chance of sucess but getting the heart to believe any of that is a far more difficult task. No doubt you'll have all sort of people telling you it happened to them and that they went on to have babies after the fact...they do mean well even if its hard to hear at the time. You'll also likely want to shy away from friends that are pregnant as they'll be a reminder to what could have been for you. Don't feel that's wrong its normal and to be expected. Those that are true friends will understand and still be there for you when you're ready for their company again.
Loosing our first was the most difficult time in my life and it took a long time to get over the guilt, denile and anger...but given some time we did get on with life. If you need to talk please feel free to email me...i might not have any answers but i'm a good listener

My thoughts and prayers are with the two of you as well. I wish things had turned out differently.
Eduardo, I'm so sorry to hear this news :(

This a question for Lex and Mats I think..
The Forum has been slow , but seems to be getting even slower on my end. As well 9 times out of 10 I get an error when I make a post.
Fortunately my posts still go through..thanks goodness.
Anyways, being on Vacation , I have been cruising around other forums
and have been very suprised at how fast they are to navigate and posting is super lighting fast..:E
What is the bottle neck with the HTguide??
I am not sure as I don't have the knowledge of how this all works.
Does the server need upgrading ETC??
I would sure like to assist if possible to improve the speed.
So, what is the Bottleneck? , is my question.

(your wife's in the health care profession?),
that unit looks like what I wear when I'm up to my armpits in Trichlorethane... (not that I can ever remember it...).

Andrew, I actually didn't even think I got the flip, I only clicked once earlier. Oh well thanks for the pic guys. I've been lazy tonight, dang crud hanging on here. It's all congestion type thing and draining. Well part of it is my environment at work I think. Working downstairs in a building with all sorts of mold, mildew, dust, bug spray, you name it. I leave there totally plugged up every day not being able to breath hardly. I'm considering requesting to move back to my old office for my health.
Trevor, I'll address your issues tomorrow here. I will say, it's pretty obvious some change is going to have to occur. That the forum cannot continue on this path for much longer.

Speed and DNS problems...
I'm doing my best to get this back to order...
Main problem is/was that the company I worked for and where I had the servers went belly up and I had to move the machines fast to not loose them in the process. Now, 3 months without any income and only big bills to pay I simply have not been able to afford a proper location for the 3 servers. It had to be a quick and dirty solution so we could go online fast and this I actually managed.
Now, the problem is that I have the servers hosted very cheap at the moment with the backdraw of not getting any support what so ever... As an example, I've been waiting for over 2 months for a fix to get the FTP and HTTPS to go through the firewall at this location. Still no luck... Latest news is that it is supposed to be taken care of today.
Last week I bought a firewall for the purpose of me moving the servers again and take full control over what's going in and out of the machines... so I'm minus 500 USD on that so far...
Next step is to get an offer from one of the ADSL operators we have here and try to get a decent deal for a 512 KB line (roughly 250 USD/month) which I hope to be able to realize now when I (hopefully) will get a sallery again at the end of the month. Then I will try to move the machines ASAP and hopefully the DNS issues for some of the routers will be fixed, plus the speed will be better again since it will be dedicated only for the web servers not as it is now - web servers and an office with people using the line for there work...
All I can ask for, is for you guys to be a little patience and hope that things work out on this end as fast as possible...
Without money it's not easy to run this service when you have to pay rent and food and keep the family above sea level :)
So, 'nuff said on that

I knew the servers were moved , but didin't

Sounds like money is part of the issue, however the
other part is the people you are dealing with aren't
being supportive. Not sure what we can do at this end.
But if a donation would help out, I would be willing to
support that.

Good Morning Everyone!
Wow... reading TTP really got me down a little this morning.
Chris, praying for you and the family and Abby. Hope all goes well with recovery.
EJ... very sorry to learn of your loss. I'll be praying for you and your family as well. Hope all goes well with Allison's DNC.
We have our men's meeting today instead of our normal Tuesday meeting and both your families will be brought up in our prayer session. May God give you both comfort and love to overcome these situations.
I've got a busy day ahead... working at the office until lunch then our meeting and then it's off to work on the HT room some more.
You guys have a blessed day!

Go a page or 2 back, I explained all that.
Yup mine is from Canada Tire, It's not that particular model...mine was a step up. I needed to get one because I was spraying the stain on my fence rather than rolling it. I think in the long run it gives more protection than paper masks (I find paper masks just don't sit tight on the face.
It doesn't have the right cartridges for inorganic solvents, nor could you do sandblasting with these cartridges but it works well for spraying paint, spraying insect and weed killer on the lawn, fiberglass, SARS...things like that :D

Mats, I've tried to be understanding here, I knew you were up against it. But from my perspective being the first line of defense with the members, the problems are beginning to wear on me. Of course, the speed problem I notice myself every day. The DNS issues with D-link completely and totally baffle me. But I continue to hear about them from members. It concerns me that depending on the percentage of users out there with D-link, we could be loosing a good number of them, or never getting them at all. Back to the speed, the fact is, many people will get frustrated with that and find faster forums. Everyone has their bottlenecks, but it can't be all the time.
I'm open to having an HTG ISP fundrasier if you think it would help you to get there faster Mats. Not sure what kind of support we'd achieve from members though.

Great news Chris:T
Well I decided to clean up this mess I call an office an lo and behold I found my USB memory stick that came with my notebook! I've been looking for that for months and resigned that it was long gone so I bought a new one on boxing day! Don't really need two of them though so I guess i'll have to see what I'm going to do with the old one (64 meg)
I also found some rebates from the all in one printer I got a few months ago. I guess they came in the mail and glenda didn't know what they were so they just ended up on the "pile" and forgot to tell me about them!
Still one item missing though so the hunt/clean up continues

I took a look on FS's site and new generic brand 64 meg units are between $60 and $80 so how's $30?
I took some time this afternoon to pull glenda's PC apart and took off the CPU fan and the whinny fan on the northbridge chip. its now got two large fans in there one on the CPU and one blowing air out. Its much less noisy now but still louder then yours gord...I might be able to get away with disconnecting the fan on the case...its already running warm though so maybe not.

Actually I 'm really interested in how you marketed yourself as a pronto programmer, A friend of my Dad has a plaque (plack?) on the wall of his office (Riverside Gravel) that said "the secret to success is to bite off more than you can chew, then go out and do it...", I was just a kid when I saw that, but it just kinda stuck.
I'd seriously like to take a stab at this home automation thing too, but I'm waiting on a change to take place w.r.t. my electrician's licence, so I won't need to make the client take out a self-wire permit. (As it stands, I'm not allowed to do anything residential, as my licence says I'm a power electrician.)
I'll be in touch tomorrow w.r.t. the usb mem. stick, I could really utilize something like that in my real job... I have to do some work in Hadashville first.

Go for it Ben (the memory stick that is) Andrew's offering it at a really nice price. The best you'll find at the local shops is 47 before tax so it is a good deal. They are indispensable, and extremely convenient.
You know Andrew I should probably take you up on that (Pronto Programming). If I charged all the people I do computer work for, I could probably retire ;) but I maintain that my time will always be free for friends. The home computer market is way too saturated to make a decent dollar. It is a time killer though...I'm gonna have to learn to start saying no. Just a flat no.
Life's too short to help cheap people all the time. Maybe the best way to make some of them go away is to tell them, okay, but it'll be $50 an hour and that'll make 'em run ;)
Yup the best way to get something going is take your hobby and make it your job, then it ain't work.

Chris: Nice baby pic.

Trev: Way to lay down the $. I'm here.
Glen: Howdy.
I was having a really great day today. The sun came out and it was a warm 12C, ahh that's the Vancouver weather I know. Was recognized today as being a top producer, and I honestly didn't think I did that much. My goals for this year are even higher. I'm going to dinner next week as a reward. It's on them. :)
Did I mention that now that I got my MAF sensor and Temp sensor all fixed, my 1.8T Golf is oh so powerful. :) I get this stupid grin as the tach pushes past 3,000 rpm and what a rush. With the roads being drier, I can really give it some gas. On the way out to a client's today, I was on the freeway, and man I just love that acceleration. My baby's back! I hope to drive it some more on the weekend.
My sister's signed the lease and taken the keys to her new appartment downtown. There's still some things that the landlord has to fix up, but it's nothing major. We're going to move some stuff in this weekend, probably on Sunday.
Oh, I met a really cool guy at an AV shop. Not your usual lame salesman, he knew his stuff and we got to talking about HT, car audio and his truck! I think I'll be doing some business with him. I'm looking to upgrade my head unit. I'm thinking of the Alpine 9807:

Here's a funny incident todady. I'm a 'Director' for a professional group that holds these computer meetings. We have guest presenters come in once a month and they run through their product or some new trend in the industry. We have a projector available for use and usually a screen. So as we are setting up, I decided to give a helping hand to setup the projector.
So I proceed to pull it out of the carrying case and set it on the table, grab the power and the monitor cable, okay everythings read to go. Well, the guy that brought the projector, and I guess he usually sets it up, asks "Do you know how to plug this in?" I"m like, huh, it's a projector. I say "Yeah"
He goes, "Don't forget to RTFM." I break out in a small smile and chuckle, "RTFM, this the cpu group, we don't need to RTFM"
"Well," he says sternly, "I don't want you to blow up a $3,000 projector"
"Ah, ok." says I, as I pull out the handy one sheet quick setup guide. (http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pl503c/pl503cqs.pdf) So I connect the VGA cable to the back of the projector, and proceed to plug in the power cable to the projector. I was contemplating powering up the projector to make sure the image would fit on the screen that was provided.
After about 5 minutes, I get this look from the guy and he's almost freaking out, but in a really professional manner. "Did you not RTFM?" he says while holding the end of the power cord that was plugged into the projector.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Well it says here," as he points to step 3 " 'Connect the other end to your laptops video or monitor port.... Then you plug in the power cord to the projector.' You can't plug in the power cord until you plug it into the laptop."
So I'm standing there with thinking to myself, You can't be serious! Just because the laptop is not here, doesn't mean you can't plug in the power cord. I wanted to say, I've set up many projectors in my time, in fact I've handeled projectors that cost 4x what we have. I think I know what I'm doing. But being ever the diplomat, I just say, "Oh, I guess I didn't read it that clearly." And rolled my eyes as I walked away. I'm wishing now I'd powered up the projector just so I could see his reaction.
Busy day on the TTP :T

Awesome Truck Stereo!! Bet it sounds pretty incredible.
Paul!,,I have the same deck , only a couple of years older.
At the time I chose the Blue lights' vs the orange and green they had avaialble in other models.. Seems Blue is all you can get now.
The Alpine line is pretty decesnt, as well they are coming out with some new speakers and amps.

Relax trevv'er, it's gonna be built today or tomorrow, I promise. I've been working on something for the Guide since yesterday, has occupied a lot of my time. We are loosing Adire as a sponsor. At least at the level they are at now for sure. We may retain them on a much smaller scale, but right now, even that's up in the air. I guess the guys just haven't supported them. :(
So, I am working on a new ad concept to get the Guide some advertisers. It's tough though. No doubt about it.

Lex... sorry we are losing Adire. There are so many good quality subs out there that I can imagine it's hard to make a choice, especially competing against the likes of SVS which seems to be ever so popular.

That's part of the problem Sonnie, people don't even look at Adire. They are about much more than just subs. Having kits for left and right mains, complete speakers, sub drivers, etc... even tube electronics.
One of these days, we will not have sponsors unless people here support our sponsors like they do at some other forums. I go to some other forums, and I'm very disappointed in how our members join forces to support our sponsors. At some places, members even start threads about it. I wish we had that kind of support.
Some do support our sponsors, even my cable companies. But it's rather thin at times. It makes my job of selling advertising very difficult to get and then retain good sponsors.

Well too Lex there's a substantial difference in members between us and a couple of those other places. That makes a huge difference I would think.
Of course I've supported Catcables and Parts Express although I've never had a need for Adire, I have heard good things about their subs, especially in the car audio market.
You know as good a following as we have in DIY you would think Adire would do better than it does here and look at our following for Rotel, you would think this would be good leverage to get them to advertise with us.
If I had the time and energy to keep up with Internet sales I'd advertise with you but then I'd have to eliminate some of my vendors that don't allow any Internet sales period.
I think with time and membership growth we'll do better but I think it will take more than 1600 members to really show support... except for your cables... I know you have a big following here but most of that is probably not from the ads here but rather word of mouth. Someone just posted in the Chalet today that they had heard of Catcables but wasn't sure how to get up with them.... DUH? Your ads are all over the forum.

Doug 99.9 percent of the emails that I get from Rotel are direct responses to a club rotel members question so you wouldn't gain much if anything by seeing them...hell just log onto club rotel and you'd see pretty much all there is to see. I will try to see what I can do to get them to sponsor us though...at least in one way or another.
Sonnie on the CCF's on my site and at Rotel the multi channel input is lableled as "5.1"

I know it will never happen but if you could convince them to link to Club Rotel somehow, or
find away to convince Rotel that Club Rotel should become the official Rotel forum on the web (though I think it now holds unofficial status), recognized by Rotel Corp....
Then you could create a banner touting as much...might draw in some more onlookers.
Or since Rotel has noteriety here, just call yourself the unofficial definitive forum for all things Rotel...
Of course that conflicts with all things Hometheater...but it's just a thought. Maybe you could find a way to twist things around that way.
A pipe dream I guess....but that would be cool...it might up the status of the forum.
Maybe the forum needs a new look. Did anyone ever look into RockDog's offer?
Lex maybe you should take this over to the Moderators area (or leave it here and get membership's opinions), ask and we all might be able to brainstorm something for you....advice is always free and you can take it or leave it.
Any ways, once the rush hour settles down I'm off to brave the snowing mess outside to get my tv card.
Hey Trevor do you have a Barton 2800XP or a Thoroughbred? Just curious. I'm thinking of beefing up the horsepower of this box.
I was chatting with Bing and he said dealing with video conversion takes a lot of juice.
The Barton 2800XP+ is $209 and the 3000XP+ is $291.
I could probably sell my old 1800XP+ CPU for $50 or so I think...they still sell for about $80 I believe before tax.

Trevorz cable is in progress! Trevorz cable is in progress!!! It's all ready to put the RCAs on tomorrow Trev. Along with 1 other component. Man, between you and this other customer that ordered a 6 meter component, you guys sure did soak my coax roll, lol. I only have 1 roll left after this one. I really hate that too, it's been great having 4000.00 worth to use the last 3 years. But I fear, by June, I'll be having to find new stock of some kind. I don't think I can get this existing coax. It's possible, but not probable unless I want to order 26,000 feet, lol. Not possible yet for me to order that much. That would be a heckofa lot more than 4K.

oh, next week, it will be lottery lex. That's right, my state is finally getting into the lottery business. The BIG game doesn't start until April. Right now, it will be some lucky 7 game or something where you can win up to 7 grand, I think.
The good part about the lottery is, it's going to create education scholarships for Tennessee college age kids. All the have to do is score a 19 on the ACT or have a 3.0 GPA in high school to qualify for like 3000.00 a year in assistance. That's a nice thing. It may well help my daughter as well, we'll see. But she already gets 50% off her education because I am a state employee.

Lex, don't forget about my cables too! We'll be using your new silver coax for most video cables, but the long run to the projector will probably still have to be your Tigress!

Hey Greg welcome back! So did you get down to CES again this year? you should drop by one day so we can chat...its been over a year since I last saw you!
Great news Chris:T
Sonnie I'm sure Bing and Doug will be along soon to say Nikon is the best thing since sliced bread:) Actually that ought to be a really nice DigiCam.

Hey Gregor, been a long time! Stick around for a while, stop being such a no show. That was a nice prayer wish as well.
Sonnie, for a 300.00 camera, I doubt the Nikon would disappoint you. What's the resolution on it? How many megapixels? What else is out there for that kind of bucks?

Good Morning Guys!!
Sonnie!
Go for it! Should be a good camera.
What were the reviews like on Steve's website?
Also check out DP review. They have excellent reviews as well as
sample photo's.
What's the scoop on the I scan? Is it new , How much etc..?
My deal on the Denon 5900 did not go through.
I will try my Toshiba SD-9200 with it first.
If I am not satisfied , then I will go with Denon 5900
at the higher price , I guess.
Lex,,I did that, but the XBOX has an auto shut down after a period of time.
I need Eduardo to give me some advice on this level.
I wonder if I could download a Save point for this area since I cleared it anyways. PoP is live enabled so I may be able to do that!

Chris, I have not been able to turn my attention to your order yet. I've got a bit more to get off my plate first. But I have not forgot about you. :) I do need to check something out on your order, I may have made a pricing mistake. I'll have to look and see before I know for sure.
I tell you, having this crud a second time though, hasn't made me feel like moving forward. :( I called the Doctor and got some antibiotics yesterday. I hope that will help. Also taking some cough med.
Trevor, my Xbox stays on indefinitely. It's been running for a few days now, actually, lol. A week? I'm not sure, I just left it on so I could continue quickly with the racing game when I wanted to. I'll turn off at the end of this weekend, if I don't play before then.

Good Evening Everyone!
Great news that Abby is doing well Chris!
Hey there Gregorious! Good to see your post. I got my MX-600 all programmed and working good. Thanks for the help on that.
I built the center equipment rack today out in the workshop. All I lack is painting it and then it will go to the HT room. I think it's gonna be nice but simple for now.
Yeah Lex the 4300 is 4 megapixels and a resolution of 2272 X 1704. All the reviews I've read have been good. I mainly want something with more megapixels than I have with keeping the price around $300. I'm still undecided though.
Trev... the new Iscan HD will retail for $1499 but it does nearly everything possible with deinterlacing and scaling a signal and it's completely programmable and upgradeable.
Good luck on the theater gig E...

Hi gang. Hi Lex! ;) How've things been going here in TTP? Thought I'd check back in and play some catch-up.
Guess most of y'all know I'm up in Washington state now. Jen and the kids are still in Houston, selling our house there and finishing school. As part of all this, I've done a 180 degree change in careers. I'm now building houses on Orcas Island up in the San Juans. I'd had just about enough of "corporate life", and then the mutual disgust that I, and my old boss felt for each other came to a head. Of course, him being the boss, the outcome was fairly predictable.
Talk about culture shock! One theater on the island that shows one show a week (once a night Thursday through Monday at 7:30 PM). No Best Buy, no place to really go to buy CDs and DVDs except the single supermarket. No fast food restaurants at all, but many more good dine-in places than you'd expect. Actually, I'm re-discovering my cooking skills and having a good bit of fun doing it. Ferries to and from the mainland to the island 4 or so times a day are the only way off, unless you own a boat, plane or are an Olympic-class swimmer.
I've got the 2-channel system up here in its entirety, but my HT stuff is still in Houston - yuck. I'm using a 25" 4:3 to watch stuff on and IT SUCKS. Waaah - okay, pity party time is over. I've been going through my CD and vinyl collection with all the now-free-evenings and been having a lot of fun re-discovering a lot of old favorites.
Anyway, I'll leave you with a photo from the recent snow storm we had. It's a view off the deck facing (southeast) the Wasp Passage.

Good Morning!!
Yeah ,,the Guide is back!! :D
Lex,,I was talking about your Avatar. The little man on the Levison.
What's it for?
On the XBOX,,I went into settings and there is a place to switch the Auto Power Off feature. When on it automatically turns off after 6 hours when idle. Turning it off leaves the machine on for as long as needed. So I made the change to leave it on.
David!! Welcome back to TTP!! It is good to hear from you again.
I didn't realize you had moved. Your now in Erik and Chris land.
Anyways,,I love the view you have there. Very pretty.!!

Drive careful on your way back Andrew!!
I would suggest getting winter tires installed on your car
especially with the little one and the type of trips you
are required to take.
I have the Michelin Alpin installed on my Intrepid and
all I can say is that they are the best investment I have made
for winter safety. The grip is amazing.
Regular tires is like wearing a summer jacket in the winter.
All Season tires is like wearing a fall jacket in the winter.
Winter tires is like wearing a Columbia Titanium winter jacket in the winter.
It does the job.
Anyways, CANTIRE has their winter Michelines on sale at 40%off
instock inventory only. You should check it out.

And through this pregnancy, with all the complications and extra dangers we've had, we knew there was a chance that little Abby wouldn't make it at any step along the way. Good news on the Cable LEX,,If you send it air , I will get it quick as well as avoid Customs delays and duty charges. Charge the extra to my account if you need to.

Hey guys!
Beautiful flip shots Pat!
Glad to hear good news from Chris and EJ... good indeed!
Good to see David has finally posted in TTP. What a way to live David. Looks like beautiful country but sounds a little rough on the amenities.
Trev, the HT room is about 98% finished on the inside. I still lack a little touch up paint and the return air vent is on order. I'll have updated pics up soon.
I started Saturday morning with two 4' X 8' sheets of ¾" birch plywood, table saw, nail gun, shelf strips, putty, sand paper and paint, and today I finished up the center console equipment cabinet and got it all set up in the HT room. I may later add doors but am undecided for now. Here's a shot of it:

Hey everybody :later: :later:
(Andrew, I forgot I had a Hydro Monday today - we get every other day off..., so I will be sending your twenty [ok, 30] bucks tomorow)
I spent the day installing three cold-air returns in my bassement (notice the little play on bass...), one in the rec/theater room, one in my daughter's room and one in the guest bedroom. The guest room was a bitc#, I had to drop a section of suspended ceiling to accomodate the new duct, then I discovered that my "chosen framer" didn't follow convention when framing in the wall of this guest room, so I "missed" on my first cut into the stud cavity and wound up above the top plate - pretty tough to suck cold air into a plenum with a 2 by 4 spanning the studs and bolcking the path. :x However, I got it all completed with the valuable help of a neighbor, and the Dept. of Domestic Affairs insists that she can tell the difference in the basement already.
Next thing to do is about 200 feet of baseboards... but we want to re-paint first, I'm hoping to do the entire rec-room in a copper colour - what do you guys think?

Hey Ben, any hints for fishing a coax cable behind a finished wall if you don't have fish tape?
I hooked up my tuner card to the pc but for now the cable had to drape from the ceiling...go figure, my wife didn't dig that. Picky picky. :P
"A RONSTER!"
E, Krell? Why I never!
Trevor, typically I do send air, but US Postal, not UPS or Fed X. UPS makes you go througha lot of hoops for international shipments. I hope that's ok, it's going out tomorrow, as today was a holiday here.
Sonnie, I emailed you day before yesterday, no get?
Still fighting the bug here, this thing's wore me up one side, and down the other.
Chris, as soon as I get some other work caught up, I'll turn my attenion to checking your order, pricing, etc.. There's really just one thing I need to check on.

Hey gang! So I see there's a few of us up late! 8O
I'd usually be getting ready for bed-E-bye but this new business idea of mine has me up late...but it's all good!
Chris, Nicole left a message today at your place...let us know when we can swing by with some dinner!
Hey Gord...didn't know you could go fishing for coax! :P
Lex...I miss Krell! :( ;)

hey, E, thanks! We'll give you a call over the next few days. Still trying to get settled into the house.
Sonnie, wow, that looks great!
Ben, I don't know about a copper color. Is it actually metallic in appearance? The first issue that comes to my mind is light reflection from that color, whether it's metallic-looking or not.
Lex, sounds good!
Gordon: I've done a lot of wiring behind my finished sheetrock walls, running a complete home computer network, A/V wiring to the bathroom, television antenna wiring, etc. What's the particulars of where you're trying to get the cable to go, what kind of wall is it, what do you have on the other side of the wall/ceiling/floor, etc?

Gord,
If there isn't any insulation in the wall you can tie a washer or nut to the end of a string...drop it in from the top and there you have it.
Glad to see everyone posting good news!
:later: Have a great day 8)

Gord, exactly the same questions...
what is the wall construction, is it an exterior wall?
There are many different preferred methods to pull wires, I usually like to let gravity help in all cases. If you are just pulling signal wire (no 120 volt), then there are plates that have ears whicj wrap around drywall, they let you essentially mount any cover plate to what is just a hole in the wall.
More info...
Oh, about the fish tape, I've taped two or three straightened clothes hangers taped together...

Gord I think my cousin left his tape behind when he left for a project I have yet to start so you could borrow that if need be.

Of don't bother with the cable and go to an rf video tranmitter instead...though I'm not sure they work for coax?
