WELCOME TO TTP XI
Remember!,,Everybody is Welcome to hang out and talk about absolutely nothing at all, or if you wish , you can talk about something. :P

Whatever you have on mind be sure to share it with us as that is what keeps TTP going.
This is the 11th installment and there is no sign of it slowing down.
So , come on in and join in on the conversation.
We always enjoy new visitors and do encourage everyone to stick around.!!
Have Fun!!!

Thanks, Eduardo! I've been saving up for that one for a while. I'll post more info in the Club Parasound/Halo. So far, it's pretty sweet! One of my big purchases I've been saving up for as part of the theater project. My wife's feeling okay, thanks for asking! The baby definitely isn't helping with her back, but she's getting alot of rest and things are going just fine so far.
Anybody watching Monday Night Football? Denver up 24-0 at the half, and looking AWESOME!!!! I love it when we kill the Raiders. Only black mark so far was one of our wide receivers getting ejected for scuffling with a Raider, and his fist inadvertently clocked a ref in the head. DOH!
Oh yes, and Air Force football is 3-0 and leading their conference! Things are looking up!
Aha! Let's start things out on the right foot.

Good Evening fellas!
Chris... beautiful equipment you got yourself. Very nice indeed! I can only dream about owning that kind of equipment. Nah... I can't even dream about it.
The Bronco's kicked the peabody out of the Raiders. Wasn't even a real ballgame. Those Raiders are just getting too old to play.
Welp, off to beddy bye land.
What a shame about the vette.

Wow, another new chapter of TTP. And a new season to boot, as today is "balance an egg on its end" day. I tried, I couldn't do it.
Can you believe I've been looking for a new job ever since TTP II? That's 9 chapters ago. Pathetic.
Viper? Did someone say Viper?? 8O I saw one this weekend. I was at my sister's apt. and there was a silver Viper parked in a lot next to the apartment lot. I've never seen one before, it was hot looking. The owner came out and fired it up, boy did it sound sweet. He had a modified exhaust on it and it had quite a note. He said with the mods it gets over 525 HP. 8O
Nice lookin' system there Chris. I saw it last night on the thread you started. Guess you didn't realize that TTP stands for Trevor's... uh, Trevor's... hey get your mind out of the gutter there Kev! 8O
Cool Pr@ on having Energeezer over. I thought he was a CRT-only guy? What were his impressions? Looks like I'll be installing a couple CRTs in the next month, oh what fun!
My Swen count is up to 39 now. Had 6 more in my Yahoo mail overnight. None of my other addresses have been hit.
It's funny, I mentioned before that I got the Magistr virus in my email over the weekend. Yesterday a coworker's daughter, who recently started college, was asking me about the Nimda virus. Apparently someone on her network has it and it's trying to get on her PC, making her Norton pop up alerts. And then I got the "WTC Survivor" virus hoax in my email. What is this, 2001 all over again? :? Next thing I know this will suddenly turn into "TTP IV" or something!
We're seeing Mariah Carey at the Verizon Wireless Arena tonight. This place is walking distance from our house, but go figure it's supposed to rain. I don't like to drive there because there's no place to park. We might get someone to drive us down and then pick us up afterward.
L8r folks, time to pretend to work...

He said his CRT has a better image but that he could live with my PJ which was about what I figured he'd say. We looked at convergence and overscan etc that were of course perfect on my PJ that he said he fights with all the time on his CRT so you give up a little image quality for a much less maintaince...and no worries of burn in:T
One interesting thing we tried was looking at the resolution patterns on Avia both on my Denon 1600 and from my notebook and it was no contest my notebook produces a much sharper image so now I'm wondering if its just the VGA vs component inputs that made the difference or if its the radeon video card vs the Denon. I guess I'll have to wait till Erik tries his VGA adapter and see ;)

It's scaling the DVD image up to a resolution that's probably closer to your LCD's capabilities, rather than bad old 720x480p (or 720x480i) that the Denon is sputtering out. Now you're gonna want a HTPC. ;)

 I thought the Equinox was at the beginning of the summer. But I guess that the Solaris :huh:Eqinoxes mark the beginning of spring and fall, and mark when daylight hours equal darkness hours (at the equator at least). Solstices (not Solaris, that's a Unix GUI created by Sun Microsystems) mark the start of winter and summer, and are the shortest and longest days of daylight of the year, respectively.
Well, Swen's broken every record in terms of viruses received on any of my email addresses. Over the past 6 days I've received a total of 44 infected emails from 25 senders. This tops Sobig.F's prior record of 39 infected emails. 9 of them came in today so far.

Or in a lot of LUSERS' address books/saved emails.
Luckily they're coming into a Yahoo address instead of my main one, and then most of them are landing in the Bulk Mail (spam) folder, so I can nuke them all with a single click. :nuke:
Some people on DSLReports have reported getting hit thousands of infected emails. I'm just getting hit with the fringe it seems. 8O

Oh man, you know how I'm always saying this place (my place of work) is falling apart at the seams, and is set to implode. This sentiment may be true in more ways than one. It's pouring buckets outside and now some of us have indoor showers, in our cubes! 8O Not me fortunately, but this rainstorm is revealing roof leaks all over the place.
Maybe the roof will cave in. I don't know if this would be a good thing or bad. ;)

Congrats Andrew.... lots of flips there. Geeze, I'm tied for second place.... second to last place! What a wimp I was! I'll have to do better this TTP.... at least get 5 or more.
Welp, our local ABC OTA network is now officially DTV and passes HDTV programming. Ya-hooooooo!
And I'm getting a STB for only $149 as part of a premier customer special through Dish Network. From what I can gather this unit does a respectable job of upconverting all SD signals to 1080i and improves the motion artifacts, etc., evident in normal 480i, especially on big screens.
Granted I'll only be getting a few HD channels: SHO-HD, HBO-HD, ESPN-HD, DISC-HD, HD-NETS, PPV MOVIES, and maybe another I can't remember but at least I'll get some! And very soon our other OTA locals will be offering DTV.
Hmmm.... did I say get some? :D :D :D

cool on the HDTV stuff, Sonnie! My HD tuner is built into my satellite receiver. I get about 10 OTA channels in HD, and then 5 more by satellite. Discovery Theater is coming in High Definition October 18th, which should be added to my high-def package for free! Can't wait!

Nice pic Trev. I think the guys in the background are admiring her baseball cap too. ;)
Mariah was fun. I never realized how talented she is. Her vocal range is incredible, and she can still hit notes only a dog can hear. :) Her outfits left little to the imagination too. 8O The only disappointment was she didn't do as many of her "hits" as I would have liked. She did a lot of stuff from her new album. But we had a good time.

Morning All!
starting to get geared up for Halloween. Gonna try to put the finishing touches on my coffin (I ran out of time last year). I better make it nice and plush because my wife is threatening to bury me in it ;) (yup, it's life size!).
Got the fog machine ready.
Picked up some life sized ravens.
blacklighting ready.
tombstones are set to go.
Strobe lights...check.
Spooky music...check
all sorts of fun surprises ready to go....I'm a Halloween nut fer sure.
I wanted to build a cemetary fence complete with full-sized columns but I'd be rushing to the end and I know I won't finish so it's on hold till next year.
Did you guys hear that ABC is continuing that John Ritter show even though he's the title character??? I think that it's in really poor taste :nono: . I didn't watch it before and I certainly wouldn't start now. Talk about putting profit first :bash: . Thumbs down to ABC :2fingers:
Oh well got to back and pretend I'm working.

Cool Gordon! I'm a Halloween nut too. I used to do up "haunted houses" in our apartments in the past, but since we don't get many kids T-or-T-ing in our current neighborhood, and our house lacks a basement, we haven't done it in some time. But it's still my favorite holiday.
I used to make my own sound effect tapes too, by remixing sounds from other tapes and sources, and adding music/sounds from my keyboards. No time to do that anymore.
And to update everyone on the ongoing Swen saga, my totals are now: 61 infected emails from 34 senders. 8O Yes I'm a geek, keeping count. It's more fun than working. At this rate I might reach 100 by the end of the week, unless it finally starts to slow.

Sounds like you're having fun Gord
Oh most definitely. It's the most fun when you build it yourself...
I did pick up some stuff last year at Spencers after Halloween sale. It's worse than x-mas in terms of people fighting to get through the door. I actually stood in a line-up and then we found out everything was 75% off, there was pandomonium (no joke). It was fun though. I definitely will do it again, but Nov 1 is a Saturday this year which means that there will be a tougher fight for the deals.
I give a lot of credit to Spencers they don't pull the big stuff off the shelf like Wal-Mart does...they just discount it all and let the masses clean out the store.
Kevin: It's fun to do up a haunted house because I think people enjoy the effort but kids are a little worse now-a-days when it comes to theft or vandalism so it's a bit of a nail-biting experience...cause you never know if someone is going to rip the whole thing down on you. No one has touched my stuff yet but I know it may happen. So this year I'm contemplating setting up my Handycam and hooking it up to my VCR to keep a record of what happens at night. I won't be discreet about it, I'll set it up in the front window. The night shot mode works really well so I'll get some nice pics of any would be vandels. It sucks that you have to resort to this but since there's been some tom foolery in my back lane ( the latest was someone plowed my garbage cans and flattened the sh*t out of them ) I'm a little leery to say the least. The area isn't technically a bad one....so it's bored rich kids with parents that don't give a crap about them or never taught them to respect peoples things (and thus never gave a crap about their kids).
Okay rant over :)

I see a different side to that Gord. John became friends with these people that were his TV family. He helped to establish the show. It's sort of a living tribute to him to keep it going, and I think he would have wanted it that way.
ABC has an investment in the show. It's foolish to throw away an investment. If at the same time they can honor a star, why not? Now to sub someone in his place and continue like it didn't happen would definitely have been wrong.

Just went to Movie Gallery with Chelsea (she's out of school for 3 days for teacher's conference) to rent her a PSII game. I was checking out their previously viewed DVD's. They had a super special going where we could buy 2 and get 2 free and they were only 9.99 each. So we picked up 4 DVD's at only 5 bucks each.
Road to Perditon
Bringing Down the House
City by the Sea
Lord of the Rings: II Towers I'll probaby by the Director's Cut when it comes out too.
These are DVD's that I kinda wanted but couldn't see paying full price for them just to own them but 5 bucks is a bargain.
Got them home and opened them up and they are in very good condition. They also come with a lifetime warranty.

I think it was the right thing to do.
As Lex mentioned, it is a tribute to John. That's what he would have wanted.
John's real life wife had mentioned the same thing, which likely established the decision to continue on with the show.
To not watch the show for these reasons, is the wrong thing to do.
IMHO, this was/is the best half hour comedy show on the air right now.

I have an updated version of my Swen removal script. It's a VBScript that can be downloaded from here (http://kpatz.home.comcast.net/misc/swenfix.vbs).
It isn't a complete removal tool (go to your favorite AV vendor's site for one of these), but if you can't launch executables or run regedit because of the registry changes Swen makes, this script will undo those changes so you can then proceed with cleanup.
I fixed a bug where the restriction on using regedit, which is placed in the registry by Swen, wasn't being removed.

Yeah, I found a deal on the web for a D-ILA under $7,000. Best deal I've seen yet, by far, for 1080 resolution. But, Even at that great price, I don't have that kind of funding room in my project. (sigh) perhaps if I start a "Buy Chris a D-ILA Charity Fund", and you each chip in $700 or so. :D

It can be a throw money at it situation.
LCD
====
MLA panels are said to reduce screen door.
Brightness an issue? get the PLV-70
Rainbows
======
Any projector with a 6 segment colour wheel is said to drastically reduce rainbows. The Yamaha DPX-1000 is said to be an amazing projector (and for 12K it better be).
I think your price comfort zone will dictate what technology you are going to jump in with.
In the lower priced arena an LCD projector may be your best bet (IMO)but when the price approaches the 8-15K market, I think it becomes a lot murkier as to which technology is better suited. This is soley based on what I've read.
Heck for 30,000 U.S. you too could own the sony with SRXD panels, a xenon lamp, and 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Sonnie send them an email and ask what went wrong. They did that to me as well but it was just the system automatically canceling orders that were "X" days old due to a backorder. They might still be getting them in and an email or phone call will get you back on the list again.

Oh these "Nigerian" type scam spams are SO much fun to tear apart!! :twisted:Dear friend, (I don't know you so therefore I am not your "friend")
This mail may be a surprise to you because you did not give me the permission to do so and neither do you know me but before I tell you about myself I want you to please forgive me for sending the mail without your permission. (Ok, where do I start? I'm not surprised at all, as I get several of these "offers" a week in my email. Next, no I don't forgive you for spamming me without my permission. And lastly, here's some periods ....... and some commas ,,,,,,, I suggest you use them!)
My name is Theresa, the wife of the late military ruler of Ivory-Coast (Retired Brigadier General Robert Guei) who was killed in a political crisis which led to war in my country(Ivory-Coast)some months ago. My husband was killed by some soldiers believed to be loyal to the government because of my husband objection to some certain policies of the present government. (Is it me, or do an awful lot of widows of foreign military rulers have my Yahoo email address?)
I was lucky to have escaped because i was visiting a family friend in another city far away from our home. I have to go into hiding for some days before arrangements were made for me and my children to leave Ivory-Coast for the Republic of Togo on the invitation of President Eyadema of Togo who granted us political assylum. (Maybe you need a political ass-kicking!)
Before we left for Togo,I visited our home to take two mental boxes in a secret vault containing $11,000,000:00(eleven million dollars). (mental boxes!?) and i carefully arranged for the boxes to be moved with me through the help of some family friends in Abidjan the capital city where I (So you do know that "I" is capitalized!) deposited the boxes with a security company for safe-keeping.I did not declare the content of the boxes to the security company,I only declare it as family valuables. (English isn't your first language, is it??)
When the African leaders came to Ivory-Coast and President Eyadema invited us to go to the Republic of Togo where I now live with my kids. (Ok, is it me, or is that sentence missing a predicate or something?) now,I cannot leave the money there in Abidjan so I am making arrangements to move the boxes to Togo where I now live and have the money transfered to abroad. (Where's abroad, is that a city or something?) This has been my reason for contacting you. (Seems like a lot of people have been contacting me for similar reasons.) I wish to meet with you if you can make a trip to The Republic of Togo or Ivory-Coast, then we can meet secretly before we go ahead for the transaction. (Oh yeah, I was planning on taking my next vacation in Togo!) Never mind about your expenditure it will be taken care of. (Yeah right.) I will pay it back for your assistance and not only that, I am ready to offer 10% of the money to you for this assistance. (Surrrre... where I have heard that before? Oh yeah, in about 50 other emails I've deleted!) It is not that I am paying you but for your assistance which I shall really appreciate. (How come every spam I see looks like it was written by the original translator of the game "Zero Wing?" "All your base are belong to us")
Please I wish that this assistance be treated highly confidential. (Whoops, sorry, I just posted this on a public website! Will you forgive me? hahaha!)
Waiting to read your response soonext. (I wonder if I should respond and see what happens. I could have fun with "Theresa." But when is "soonext?")
Thanks. (You're not welcome.)
Theresa . (I bet that's not your real name)
(Oh, and one last thing. If you have 11 million dollars, you can afford to hire a proofreader!)

I called ecost Andrew. They are not getting anymore in and won't even order me one although Denon has told me they have B-stock 2900's available. I called a couple of dealers but none would order it for me.
I'm considering a new Denon DVD-2200. According to the fellow I spoke with at Denon he claims there's not very much difference between the two. He further stated that most likely I would not ever be able to tell the difference. I thought it kinda wierd he would say that but maybe he was just figuring he could convince me to at least still consider a Denon product and knew I wasn't going to spend any more than $500 or so.

Interesting on the 2200 Sonnie. I was looking at the 2900 but for me it wasn't worth the cost to "upgrade" to the 2900 since I'd actually be downgrading video. The only thing the 2900 has is SACD and likely better CD playback but I can address CD with a stand alone player for cheaper then it would cost to upgrade and as much as SACD would be nice there's still so little software that I feel I really want to justify it.

I don't know about the combo-players that do both DVD-A and SACD since a lot of them convert the DSD bitstream to PCM which defeats the purpose of SACD in the first place. I don't know if the Denons do this but the Pioneer combo players always seemed to get weak reviews in terms of SACD performance.
Maybe the newer models are improved in this regard but IMHO you'll get better performance from separate players for SACD and DVD-A. Of course you'd need two sets of 5.1 inputs on your pre-pro (does the Rotel 1098 have this)?

Kevin, here's what Denon says about the 2200:
Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192-kHz DSD 1791 Audio DACs that decode PCM and DSD signals discretely with no down-conversion of DSD
The 1066 only has one set of 5.1 inputs.

Yeah, baby... Denon universals! I would REALLY like one of the new 5900's with BNC component output and (probably) future DVI output at 1080i. $2000 retail price, though. I think the 2200 would be a good one to get as well.
The Parasound Halo processors also only have one multichannel input (although it's even 7.1!!!) so I too need a universal player, not separates. Offhand, I don't know of any processors with multiple multi-channel inputs. (that sounds funny) That would take up quite a bit of rear panel territory.

Gordon,,As Andrew mentioned. The technology is ever changing that I would be concerned in investing a large amount into FPTV.
I would pick up a budget projector to get familiar with them first , then as the dust settles I would get into the mega $ quality stuff.
I was key on getting the DLP tech , however the rainbow effect has me worried as I may notice it.
However, I am not sure if LCD would be appropriate for my room due to the amount of light that could leek into it during the daytime.
The reason I am worried about the Rainbow effect is because of this...
http://www.dietforum.net/balagee/projected/rainbow.html
I see the rainbow effect on the top lettering..Some people can't see it.
I would hate it if I had it on my screen..

Ooooh, good link, Trev. I'm going to use that one again in the future. I too saw rainbows. But is that really the same principle on computer screens? Aren't all computer screens (pretty much) LCD? Different technology than the DLP, which lays on one color at a time, doing it so fast it usually blends together to the human eye.
FWIW, I have NOT had bad experiences seeing rainbows with DLP projectors very much.

Hello Everybody!
I've been a member of this forum for awhile, but have not posted - until now. Andrew Pratt and Jeremy Santos are good friends of mine here in Winnipeg, and because of them I have a very expensive and obsessive hobby!
Recently, I let on that I was interested in upgrading my receiver. Well Andrew came through; he was able to find a discounted [new] HK 325 @ the hometheaterforum.com. There is just 3 problems, the receiver is from onecall.com [an American company, that only lets Americans register], I'm Canadian; so they don't ship here, and the offer ends tommorrow :?
So, I come to you, the fine members of HTguide.com to help me with this dilemma. I want to pay for the hardware via Visa, I just need a location to have the address shipped, and then shipped to me.
Is there anyone out there that can help a brother out? It would be SO APPRECIATED! Let me know...
Thank you,
Michael

Mike I'd call them first thing tomorrow morning and see if they'll ship directly to you. That would be easiest for two reasons...one shipping would be less as its direct to you and secondly companies are always leery of shipping items to addresses that don't match the address on the card. You can usuallly get around that but it often involves calling the company which means you might as well just have them ship it direct to you anyway. If they won't ship to you I'm sure one of the US TTPers will step up for you being the super nice guys that they are:)

first off, gotta apologize for asking if your from Canada, in clear print under your name its says your from Saskatchewan...howdy neighbor!
I want this receiver deal bad, and I'm currently trying to contact onecall @ 18665723235. No one is picking up - no answering machine, nothing.
Is this the right number? Its in the right corner of their webpage. Did you call a different number? Are the open 24 hours? Silly questions, I'm sure, but the anticipation of possibly pulling of this deal is killing me!

Your right Andrew,
I will call them first thing in the morning, and will jump on the board to let everyone know what happened. If they will ship to me directly - I would prefer that - if not, I would be indebted for life to the kind soul who could help me out.
Here's hoping that onecall.com is cooperative...anyone have any bad experiences with them...or do I have nothing to worry about?
I wonder what time the deal expires? 12:00am technically is the 26th. Is that when the deal expires? I haven't seen anything on their website to the contrary...
Thanks for all the responses BTW! Much appreciated :D

The price I saw wasn't that much cheaper then their deal price so even if you do miss it it wouldn't be that much different I don't think...but I believe you'll have all day tomorrow to place your order...if not whine that you tried this afternoon but it wouldn't let you enter a canadian address and they might let you in on the deal anyway...if not let melissa "talk" to them I hear she's not someone to mess with with working a deal ;)

What? Dell is in the PJ business? Of all things. If it's anything like their computers I'd say it's a dadnabbit good PJ. Wonder if it comes with double memory and an extra hard drive with free shipping? hee hee Go ahead Trev... get one and give us a review.
I was looking at the 2900 but for me it wasn't worth the cost to "upgrade" to the 2900 since I'd actually be downgrading video.
Andrew, going from a 1600 to a 2900 would be downgrading your video? How is that so?
The more I read up on the 2200 (what few people have them already for a week or two max) I'm heavily leaning towards one.
Chris, wanna buy a 2200 with me?
Denon does have more refurb 2900's that they have not shipped out but PC Mall nor E-cost is planning on stocking anymore. Those were the two offering the best deals. I did find one for $837 (new) but now I'm not convinced it's worth $300 bucks more than the 2200. :? I think I'll keep waiting and researching and seeing what others are saying that have purchased one then make my decision. Kinda like I did with the Rotel 1066 (but really that was a no brainer).... except I ain't waiting as long to buy.

Andrew, going from a 1600 to a 2900 would be downgrading your video? How is that so?
Sonnie yes technically the 1600 has slightly better video performance then the 2900. Read all about it here (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi?function=search&articles=5)

There's much more to a piece of equipment than specs. There's ergonomics, remote functionality, drawer speed, jitter, digital quality, overall build quality, noise dB, vibration, etc, etc, etc.
I just hate to see hard and fast rules. "Well, the numbers are worse, so it must be worse." Certainly, that's not always true.

I agree doug there's more to life the specs but in this case we're not talking about some thing that only shows up on a bench test like the difference btw .02 and .06 THD levels these are fairly easy to see issues...esp chroma which the 2900 suffers from. Still if someone were to offer me the 2900 in exchange for my 1600 I'd do it in a heart beat for those other tangebles like the build quality, SACD and hopefully better CD playback as well.

Trev...if you saw Andrews theater your mind would be made up in an instant...I promise. The true big screen is the only way to go. My 32" TV never looked so small as it did after I got home from watching a movie at Andrews. Thanks for that ;)
With the right screen you may able to squeeze extra performance out of an LCD so that it bearable in a room with less light control. Demo some projectors from FutureShop. It's a 30 day demo (check first). Get some screen material demos like Andrew did (I'm sure he'll tell you who and where to contact) and don't sweat the small stuff. Go nuts and see how they work for you. Try as many as you can and see what you like.
Are there any AV rental places in town? That may be anther option and you can give the infamous X1 a try...it's worth a shot.

Good Morning! and TGIF
Well I wasn't referring to the specs or numbers necessarily but more so the price difference. Understandbly though the 2900 price increase could be attributed to the extra features and maybe not video quality.
But since we are on the subject of specs:
DVD-2900:
• New 'Chroma Bug Free' Mitsubishi MPEG/DVD-Audio Decoder
• 12 bit/108 MHz, 4X4-4-4, Video D/A Conversion system featuring Noise Shaped Video processing - interlaced and progressive output
• Powered by the Silicon Image/DVDO PureProgressive (SiI504) Decoding Engine - highest quality progressive decoding engine available
• PureProgressive decoding features high speed ultra-resolution DSP at 6 Billion Operations Per Second (6 GOPS)with 64Mb external SDRAM
DVD-1600:
• Progressive Scan featuring DCDi by Faroudja decoding engine
• 10-bit, 54-MHz Video DAC

Andrew, very interesting DVD testing chart.
What surprised me the most was the Denon DVD-9000 at $3500 was scored an 88 versus the much less expensive 1600 at $500 scoring a 91 while the 2900 scored 90.
I see though that the 2900 chroma problem is not the chroma bug but rather an interlace chroma problem (ICP). So I suppose it could still be Chroma Bug free and have an ICP.
Seems like I read somewhere that this chroma problem had been fixed in the refurb units. But maybe not... I can't seem to find where I read it now.
Ouch... I noticed the Toshiba's were only scoring in the 40 range. No doubt I'd be improving going to a Denon.

At 1600X1200 on my 19" monitor it reads "Mobil Ave". The funny thing is that it's some oriental guy not Neo (Keanu). I assumed it was Neo too but it is definitely someone else...stunt double perhaps? Slow it down and pause it and you'll see what I mean (time 00:00:45). It's kinda funny that with today's technology you think they would have cleaned that up. I guess movies and trailers were never meant to be paused.

Hi Guys,
Ok...the saga continues...
I just got of the phone with One Call, and the jerk agent I got refused to ship or allow me to purchase because I'm from Canada. He said that for over the 2 years he'd been working there, onecall.com has never shipped to Canada. He said I needed a US registered VISA, as well as a US billing address. 8O
I'm freakin' out!!!
What should I do?!?!

Just called Onecall.com...whoo...I don't even know what to say.
I called back and started placing the order, and then when it came to my "zip code" - the gentleman I spoke to freaked out and said that onecall does not ship to Canada, and never has!
He started yelling @ me, saying things like: "what is it you don't understand? we don't ship there!" or "you're not our customer, YOU live in Canada!" He wouldn't even let me speak to a manager! HE became so irate [i thought I was the customer, usually only the customer is allowed to be irate], that I had to hang up on HIM. The most bizarre and unfortunate online incident I have ever had!
I need some help - I don't know why they are being so adamant on not shipping to Canada [or maybe its the same guy I'm getting that won't ship] especially since others [in Canada] have gotten product from them. HELP! Jeremy Santos even called to ask if they ship to Canada, and he got an "absolutely not..." from the rep.

DVD-1600:
• Progressive Scan featuring DCDi by Faroudja decoding engine
• 10-bit, 54-MHz Video DAC
Don't forget the specs of the new units, though, the 5900 and 2200:
DVD-5900
Powered by the latest DCDi by Faroudja FLI-2310 Decoding Engine - Finest available processing for film, video, graphics or mixed-mode content
• Adjustable Chroma Delay and Level, White/Black Levels, CCS On/Off controls
• New ESS Vibrato "Chroma Bug Free" MPEG/DVD-Audio Decoder
• Sony CXD-2753 Second Generation DSD Decoder
• Dual, discrete, Analog Devices ADV-7310 - 216 MHz, 4:4:4, 12 bit Video D/A Conversion system featuring Noise Shaped Video processing (1 chip each Progressive and Interlace)
• 8x Oversampling Progressive and 16x Interlace output
DVD-2200
• High resolution Analog Devices ADV-7300, 12 bit/108 MHz, 4:4:4, Video D/A Conversion system featuring Noise Shaped Video processing - interlaced and progressive output
• 4x Oversampling Progressive and 8x Interlace output
• 2X DVD read speed; 4X CD/CD-R/CD-RW read speed; with 8MB drive buffer memory
WOW! 8O That's some performance from the 5900. Me want...
Kev, funny screen shots. I especially like the e-mail you got with the subject "Re: Girls Gone Wild", like you sent a message to someone to talk about "Girls Gone Wild", and now they're responding with further commentary. Right... who do these people think they're fooling?
Trevor, my #1 concern with the Dell 3200MP is that it seems to be designed firstmost to be a presentation projector. Home Theater performance would be secondary. This seems to be reflected in some of those user reviews. Perhaps Dell will be coming out with a new model since everybody else is too? The current Dell models have been out for quite some time now.
Sonnie, if you can find a good deal on the new 2200 or 5900, let me know!!!!
Pat, the Parasound won't be hooked up fully until the theater's done. For now it's just minor connections for testing and unit evaluation.
Gordon, I think our Viking friend E has a legal copyright on the term "Hap-E" :D
As for the chroma bug in Denon DVD players, if you look on their webpage at the full line comparison charts (these are good to download) you'll find that they list which models have the bug, and in some cases which production dates corrected the chroma bug. Now that's production integrity!

I found it at Reliable Audio/Video online for $495 but they are not authorized, however they do offer full warranty through them.

Seems those that have decent equipment to run with it , seem to like it and those that don't ,,Well they don't like it.

I am going to check out an LCD tomorrow..I have an inside track on a possible good deal.

"Yes," replies Jeff with a laugh.
"Well," says Paul, straightening up, "I finally plucked up the courage to ask her out, and she agreed."
"That's great!" says Jeff, "When are you going out?"
"I went to meet her this evening," continues Paul, "but I was worried I'd get an erection again. So I got some duct tape and taped my penis to my leg, so if I did, it wouldn't show.
"Sensible" says Jeff.
"So I get to her door," says Paul, "and I rang her doorbell. She answered it in the sheerest, tiniest dress you ever saw."
"And what happened then?"
(Paul slumps back over the bar again.) "I kicked her in the face."

Just reflected onto my registered date with the HT Guide. In August it would have marked 3 years since most of us have been here.
Wow! as it doesn't seem that long ago that we established TTP here on the Guide.

Yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Eduardo! Hope you have a wonderful day. Yes, I'm afraid I'll be watching the Hogs tramp our BAMA team. They put a whooping on Texas.... they are for real.
Later we may go to the Troy State game... Marshall is coming to town and they are bringing some fans. Of course they will massacre TSU, but we have a nice new stadium and it would be cool to visit it.
Hey, I was up until 3:30am.... very unusual for me. Yawwwnnnnnn!

SURVIVOR POOL
Would anybody be interested in a Survivor Pool.
Since there are 14 survivors left , we would 14 people to sign up.
After that we would list each of the 14 survivors from 1-14. Then for each person involved in the pool, we would draw numbers and each one would be assigned a random # from 1 to 14. We would each be secured to one of the 14 Survivors. As each survivor is voted off at tribal councel, the person who has that Survivor would then be out of the Pool.
The lone Survivor would then qualify for the Jackpot.
Thoughts?
We would need 14 people to be interested to play this.
We could make a TTP ritual.
I would suggest each person intersted pay up $5 US as an entry fee , which would go completely to the winner or we could go 70% 30% to the winner and runner up.
Andrew and one of the fellows from Winnipeg could administrate the picking of the numbers since they see each other frequently. This way we have a witness involved in the draws to ensure fairness.
Anybody interested?
Would this be OK to do Lex?

I'd say that's ok Trevor, just don't make a big deal out of the money all the time. It's been mentioned, just get the contestants entered, and play survivor.
Lauren has really grown! She is cute. :)
Gord, thanks. Your right, good days bad days. I'm really worried about this. It's very difficult to see someone you love go through this.
Reference Ken's post in the AV Chalet:
Guy's Ken has made a request to me. I don't know how's the best way to go about handling it. But he said he would like to have a compiled CD with many various versions of "Somewhere over the rainbow". Her favorite song. What you think guys, up for buying a CD each for the compilation? Then we could just give her all the CDs as well.
The other thing she'd like to have is a pink CD player. Ken said even if we didn't get that, but just tell him who has one, that would be fine. Of course, Ken was like well this is something she'd like to have. He was very clear that it wasn't something he expected. But it would be nice.
I did find this page with several different selections:
http://music.ontheweb.com/shop/somewhere-over-the-rainbow__1_1.html
I'd like to see us put our money into this before doing survivor, really. I mean priorities are priorities.

Well, Denver Broncos won again, so they're 4-0. But they really played down to the level of the Lions later in the game, so as it went on it got not all that great. A win's a win, I suppose.

Well, as I mentioned in the past, I'm trying out different anti-virus products since I don't want to upgrade to NAV2004 with its craptivation "feature". Last month's trial was Kaspersky Anti-Virus. That trial expired today, so I downloaded and installed a 30-day trial of Eset's NOD32. So far it seems pretty good. It has a POP3 email scanner, automatic updates, and it's pretty lightweight, it isn't a resource pig like NAV. When I ran a scan it detected a joke program (FLIP.EXE) I had from several years ago. Neither NAV nor KAV detected this, but then it's not a virus either, just a gag program.
Speaking of viruses, Swen seems to be slowing, finally. I'm only getting 4-6 a day now instead of 25+.
Pr@, cute pic of Lauren.
Heather made me get out the Halloween decorations yesterday. I think it's too soon, but there's no saying no to her. So we have ghouls and goblins decorating the house now. :E

I'm here, pretending to work while lurking in other areas of the site (e.g. Club Rotel) ;)

lol.... I see you are teaching the computer skills at an early age Andrew.
I've been reading some of the 35 pages of "Club Rotel" (well really only about 32-33 pages of real Club Rotel). Lotsa good info that I reminded myself of.
Speaking of simulator Chris... when we went to the beach we took the girls to one of the theme parks and I road one of those simulator rollercoaster rides. Man!... was ever so glad to get done with that thing. It flipped us every which way but loose! 225 pounds upside down on those bars that hold you in is not pleasant... at least not for me it wasn't.
Looking for an optical cable.... is Acoustic Research okay at $15. ??? This is for my satellite receiver.
