My math professor just called...seems my test score is a 'D'...which brings my total grade for the class into a 'C' :( I'm slipping...
Joey Millison
10-18-2000, 01:38 PM
BTW, just kidding, I got a 95 on the test, which is a very solid 'A', which brings my entire grade for the class up from a 'B' into an 'A'!!! :) :) :)
All that studying paid off!!! I missed like 1 question on the whole test :) :) :)
Very happy about this!
This, coming from the kid who's parents were literally happy if he got a 'D' in high school/junior high...because a 'D' was a passing grade
What a good day!

10-18-2000, 02:13 PM
Boy, Joey, you had me going there, a D! But I see you were pulling our legs. You shoulda waited a bit longer to post that 95%. Congrats are in order.

Nice smiley posting guys!
Paul great job on laying back, waiting for the flip and the pouncing when the opportunity came, stold it right from under J6P's keyboard :B
Should I wait for the 3 disk set of Toy Box or just get the 2 disk set? I'm not a big extras type of guy and I'm currently very impatient.
I have been quoted, 3 disk set $55.00, 2 disk set $31.00 $22 for the extras seems excessive. But I don't want to do another Bugs Life cheap out...sigh!

10-18-2000, 05:29 PM
Bing, yeah, that was a pretty good steal wasn't it. :) Toy Story, I'm waiting for the 3 disc set. For me, the extra's are worth the wait, I've been waiting this long, what's another week? I think both offer the same transfer, so movie wise they're the same. So will you listen to the commentary, the openning THX trailers, and the 3rd disc extra's?
[EDIT]
So Bing, what was the reason for 'Cheaping out' on Bug's Life? If you aren't a big extra's guy, then the regular edition is pretty good. Unless you wanted anamorphic, then you had to the the SE. For Toy Story, both set are anamorphic.
Paul
There are three kinds of people in this world; those that can count, and those that can't.
Joey and Paul...you crazy kids crack me up:B
Bing...I am wondering if I should spring for the 3 disc box of Toy Story also...I already have the LD boxset, and from what I can tell the DVD is going to have less stuff than the LD...thoughts anyone?
I am starting my indoor volleyball league tonight...should be fun!
Pat's Page (http://pat.home.mchsi.com)
Paul Wu
10-18-2000, 05:41 PM
Pat, it was my understanding that the 3 DVDs will have all that was in the LD box set, plus the commentaries and extra's for Toy Story 2. There's probalby the hard copy materials in the LD set that can't be included, but everything on the LDs should be in the set. I think one day I may buy the LD box set just to have.
Paul
There are three kinds of people in this world; those that can count, and those that can't.
Daniel Brecher
10-18-2000, 05:52 PM
Pat,
To my knowledge the only thing the DVD 3 pack does not seem to have that the LD Box has are the various Pixar animated shorts, and obviously the booklet and collectors 3D lithograph.
I was reluctant to go for the UTB myself, as a Toy Story DTS LD owner and Toy Story LD Box set owner, but I love my Toy Story 2 and want the extras for that as well... God forbid if my LDs ever rotted, I'd have a back up.
The big question that will hit me in future is what version of Toy Story to show off. The better looking DVD or the superior sounding and still amazing looking DTS LD? Hmmmm...
Dan (UK)
Bing Fung
10-18-2000, 06:22 PM
Paul, at the time I didn't know alot about DVD's HT's, etc... I cheaped out and bought Bugs Life non LE cause i didn't think I wanted the extras.
I had noticed that the full screen version was nicer looking than the widescreen on my copy, and didn't know why. Later I discovered that a person had to by the LE version for the anamorphic WS version. Now I know that they remastered the 4x3 version to include all aspects of the WS version so it's not really P&S, still, I wish I would have bought the LE for the Anamorphic WS.
So I didn't want to wish the same on the Toy box :B
I most likely won't view the extras much, but you know me, even if it's a feature I won't use much. I'll pay so I have it just in case :W
But I am impatient and all...... If I can just stay away from a DVD store until next week...

Bing, since the transfer is the same on Toy Story 2 pack and UTB, I changed my order at the last minute to the 2 pack. I enjoy the movies more than extras which I usually only will watch once. The movies will get numerous viewings though. Can't see spending $20 extra for a one time view, although I know a lot of you guys love the extras. Plus I was scared of the delay rumor on the UTB.

Joey,,Congratz on the 95% test score..thats awesome.
Any plans for another screen shot game??
I already picked up the double pack of Toy Story,,but after seeing the pics from Joey and Jehan, I'm thinking I should have waited for the Toy Box edition...so Dan, the DTS Laserdisc sounds better than the DVD..What else is new..Sure glad I held on to my Laserdiscs.:)
Just worked 10 days in a row..finally get tommorrow off..Sure need a break
Have to catch Andrew in the posting,,at least I am ahead of Rick and Chris.

Sorry Trevor, I can't let you do that ;)
I was wrong about my overall grade in math. I'm not an 'A' student, even though I got that 95 on the math test. My actual overall score in the class is 88.68%, which puts me a little over 1 freaking point away from being an 'A' student. Dang it!
Well, we have another major test in a few weeks, I have two left in the semester and the final, so those determine my overall grade. I'll study my butt off to ensure that I get an 'A' in math.
I may not be able to get an Aibo after all, at least not until after the first of the year :( There are some other things I need to take care of first, so I'll do that and THEN reward myself with an Aibo. God, I hope they don't sell out completely again or it's going to be another year before I can even think about getting one :(
I just remembered I have two papers due tomorrow, heh, gotta do them tomorrow. Should be easy enough I suppose.

Well,,I stop to watch a movie and you guys go full circle...Maybe I can flip this one.
Toy Story 2 is awesome..even better than the first one. The bass is huge also. This is a reference DVD in all aspects. Beautiful picture, active use of the surrounds and concussive bass all in one,,hard to do better than that.
Ten days in a row was due to a yearly inventory. This one was a real challenge as we had received 29 trailers at an average of 1500 pces per trailer in just 2 weeks. This increased our inventory by 1 million in the last week alone. Since this was a SKU inventory we had to have everything seperated by UPC and not by price..We had 642,000 different SKU's in our system item file. This is the time of the year that our inventory peaks so this made it a challenge as we bursting at the seams with merchandise. The good news was the results were real good in the end as my allowable % shrink was .09% lower than the company average..We will get a nice credit because of this and I will be paid a portion at the end of the year which means upgrade time for me.:)

I'll give it one last go.. the 3801 is great Trevor. I haven't wired up the back surrounds yet sorry.. I really must do this. I have heard from folks who bought this unit around the same time as me and they are very, very happy with the DTS-ES mode in particular (Haunting) as well as the Neo:6 mode. I am not sure if it would be 'the' receiver, especially for someone like you who probably needs a meatier amp section but it certainly can't be beat for the price. The 5800 looks awesome, but if I was considering that I would probably just look to get separates. DPL II is coming and if it is all people say it is (long thread with J. Fosgate on AVS a while back) we will all be upgrading in one form or another sometime next year.
Oh, I updated (http://www.ics.uci.edu/~jwickram/ht/) some of the older pics on my page just before so feel free to post some comments.
Ok off to bed now :).

Toy Story 2 is highly recommended and out does the original in my opinion.A 'Must Have' DVD ,,
Jehan,,everybody is talking up the 3801 as a very affordable pre/pro with all of the bells and whistles. For me the bigger amp comes first, but not sure if I would buy a receiver for a pre/pro or go dedicated. I guess it depends whats out at the time I decide to do this.
Thanks.

Jeez! I'm away from a PC for 12 hours and I have to catch up on not one, not two, but THREE freakin' TTP pages!! I really gotta kick this sleep habit of mine!... ;)
I had fun last night, tweaking another co-worker's HT. I balanced all his speakers and did an Avia calibration of his old 27" Sony TV. It turned out nice, and barring some geometry issues on the TV and a dead tweeter in one of his surrounds, it looks and sounds great. Plus I got to experience Super Speedway for the first time, that disc has a great picture and soundtrack.
Now I just have to work on him a bit... "you NEED a RPTV... you NEED a RPTV... " ;)
As for me, I'm staying out of the flip-a-thon. Way too much tough competition for my old slow fingers. Besides, I do have to do some actual work once in a while. :)

Good Morning!
Trevor,
If the 3801 is anything like the 5800 it would make one hellava pre/pro. The the price of 3801 (850-1100 Usd) is excellent. Maybe this is Denon's plan for it too be used that way? If I had to buy a new processor I wouldn't go the 5800 route but, the deal I was given with the 5700 trade in couldn't be turned down. The remote has some serious problems though. They just ordered the third one for me.
Is it time to flip the page? :B

Stayed home today. I finished up my DVD testing yesterday, so I have a free schedule for the rest of the week, and a buttload of vacation time. So I decided, "what the hey!"
And it's easier for me to write papers at home than it is at work, so I can get those done :)
Oh, and no one's around so I can watch a movie all by myself, one of the single greatest joys lately. When someone else watches a movie they always ask to pause it, or have to answer the phone. Not today though, I'm going to attempt to watch a movie ALL the way through, without any breaks, heh. It's the simple things in life that amuse me the most ;)
Not much more going on at the moment, just going to do a convergence on my TV once it warms up, and throw on something LOUD with a great picture :)
Oh, Columbia House sent me Erin Brockovich for some reason. Is it worth having? Should I watch it and just pay for it, or should I send it back without opening it at all?
Gonna go grab some breakfast :)
J6P
PS: strange things are starting to take place at Joey6p.com ;) I'm updating some stuff...will hopefully be done today :) I have the George Lucas Select Episode II banners though, so if you guys want to see some exclusive photos hit my page every once in a while, it's located off the main page :)

I finally got my UTB yesterday, but I didn't watch it yet (yes, I'm crazy). I had to run some errands, and watched my time-shifted Dark Angel episode from Tuesday. I watched the tape so I'd have room to tape stuff for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I just read that there's another week of delay for the Tempest drivers from Adire. So...I guess I'll have to find something else to do to bide my time wanting for the driver to show up so I can finish up my 2 new Sunosubs.
I will try to watch Toy Story/2 tonight, at least give it a spin. I'll also see if the TS1 DD version can keep up with the TS1 dts LD version. I don't think it will.
BTW, you guys have definitely flipped your wigs! :D

Rick you are lucky enough to have a dealer "close" by. According to the maggie site you have a dealer in Edmonton... the Audio Ark. According to canada411 there are two possible phone numbers...both at the same locaiton though
AUDIO ARK STEREO EQUIP 10745 124 ST NW EDMONTON AB (780) 453-6624
AUDIO ARKITECT HME THEATR 10745 124 ST NW EDMONTON AB (780) 453-6747
If you get prices would you mind emailing them to me I'm curious about what they are going for up here. The MMG's should be only available from the factory at $500 US through the web site. The 1.6's are about $1400 US new, not sure about the MG12's.

Rick hopefully tonight i'll be able to tell you how an all Maggie HT sounds. As you may or may not know I'm geting a pair of used 1.4's to use as mains. They are very similar to the newer 1.6's and I'll use my MMG's as rears. After I get an RPTV I'll get a single MMG for a center channel but it wouldn't fit properly with my current "small" TV.

from what i've seen its more like the Martin Logan centre with a curved screen but still using ribbon technology. You may find an MMG to small for your room so the Maggie centre may be a better choice...but its 750 US:(

We are considering a new algorithm for everyone except administrators. Basically how it would work is this.
If you are under 250 posts, each post in ttp would count double towards your total post count.
If you are over 250, we would subtract 1 from your post count for each post in ttp.
how ya like them apples Andrew? Last time I checked you weren't an "admin". You are a moderator. lol.

Jehan, you really should visit Amazon through the link up. You drove to 3 Best Buys and 30 miles, and all I did was walk to the doorstep where my TS box set was laying. I ordered it the night of the 16th, and had it waiting when I got home on the 18th. Is that not incredible service? All for less than 3 bucks! Of course the DVD cost a bit more.

Wow, I think I've created a monster in Rick. :) That's some nice flipping dude. Well, remote wise, I think we all know the Pronto's the one to have, everything else is a pretender.
Joey, enjoy your time off. Get that paper done, then watch the movie. Speaking of loud movies, I've been pretty lucky in my apt, as nobody has yet complained about my loud movies. Although sometimes, I get a bit embarassed with turing it up too loud. Don't know why. I guess I don't want to be kicked out.
Trev, I don't beleive the PS2 came with any games. You'd have to find those on your own. Some of those games look really good. Today, I'm going to visit Futile Shop after work to see if the UTB is in. Apparently it's in Vancouver now, so I hope there are some copies left when I get there. Inventory, blech, I did that once, counted cans, lot and lots of cans.
Andrew, I don't think anyone will catch you "the Postmaster", Say will this TTP be archived or will it be deleted eventually? I may add it to the archive I have of the other TTP. But seeing as I haven't been saving it daily, 60 pages will be a bit of work. :)
Bimmer guys, do you know when NA will ever see the sequetial shifting M3? I recally seeing this available in Europe for the past couple of years, and read somewhere that it was going to come to NA with the 2001 M3. So far that only has a standard 6sp manual. Not that I can afford one.

Heck, this would make a great TTP poll... what kind of wheeled motor vehicles does everyone here drive? Mine is a nearly-loaded silver 5-spd '98 Saturn SL2 (no leather or spoiler, both wastes of $ IMHO).

About the number of pages for the TTP thread. There aint any real limit for this as long as you are viewing each page separately. The speed will keep up as it is now and the DBMS we're using is damn fast as is this Forum toy (since it was me who wrote it :) padding my own shoulder now :B )
But I guess if viewing the whole thread as one page now is getting close to a download of Microcrap Office 2000 in d/l size :)

Kevin, sequential shifting, it's basically a manual transmition with no clutch. You push the lever forward to advance to the next gear, and pull back to select a lower gear. Sequential is like a motorcycle gear box. You can't skip gears, ie, go from 4th to 2nd, as you normally could with a standard manual gearbox. The other main thing is it does not have clutch pedal, the computer controls the clutch. The only other car that's available with this kind of shifting is the Ferrari F1, can't remember the model. It uses paddles behind the stearing wheel to select the gears. The BMW version uses the standard shift knob on the floor.
I drive a 2000 Civic SE, 4 dr, air con and power remote locks. A souless car if I ever met one. I have to rev the hell out of it for it to go anywhere, I recall Joey driving one to a wedding one time, he can tell you how gutless these cars are. :) That's after he gets through with his paper and his movie. ;) We could also list all the cars we've ever driven. I agree on the leather and the spoiler.
Mats, didn't know you did the programming on this site, great job. I'll admit to trying to load the entire thread into on page. It never worked, this was probably back around page 40 something.

That gut shot, was that your own of the Cinepro.?
Well just got back from A&B sound and was disappointed that they do not have the 5800 in the building however they can order it,,what good is that..They already have some high end gear in the building so why not the 5800 set up and in action,,thats how you sell things. Anyways they did have the 3801,,but not set up in a HT environment.??? It was set in a showroom that is used to demo 2 channel music,,just doesn't make any sense to me.

It's kinda funny everyone posting their rides...that's what we did on TTP 1.
I remember Phil Hamm posting him and his motorcycle and his new Audi.
After Trevor posted his Explorer it reminded me...I'd seen that truck before:)

Pat, well I don't have the Vtec engine, so that's half the problem. It's good reliable transportation from a to b. I needed a 4dr and they don't offer the Vtec engine in Canada in the 4dr configuration. I've driven a friends Vtec a long time ago, and I could live with that. My real problem with the car is the gearing jump is too large from 1st to 2nd. If I could fix that, then it would make life a lot better. Mind you we plan on keeping our car for the next 10 years.
Receiver, I've got a Yamaha 595
Joey's being a good boy and doing his homework that's due today. Or else he's on his 3rd movie. ;)

I changed the factory 14" wheels to 16" Niche Shocks.
Replaced the stock springs with Eibach...lowered it about an inch to inch and a half.
K&N drop in filter
Front and Rear strut tower braces.
This thing rides like it is on rails now:B
I luv corners...

Pat, I figured you did some mods on your ride. Looks real purdy. I like how you got the sun glares off the paint in your picture.
Trev, 2000 could be a possiblility tonight. Just so people know, that 2000 post will be just after the page flip.

Does this work? Yup it does. I see Pat's done this as well. Also you have to have the exact case for the link. I tried to type in .jpg and it didn't work. So you can use the bottom link, but take out the *.
