Wow!! 1000 posts and everything still loads fast. Paul great way to bring in #1000.
Glad to hear you guys were impressed with 'The Haunting' DTS disc..how would it compare to the DD version..Anyways I did see it at Future Shop and will have to pick it up.
Gregg,,I would sell your Laserdiscs but hold on to the DTS titles as these titles would probably never make it to a DTS DVD version. Of course you would not want to give up your copy of Star Wars.
That visit to Audio Warehouse the other day sure put me in an upgrade fever mode. The DV-37 was something to behold.
Whats next on the building block,,Bing??
Hope everybody has a good evening.

Ahh Paul, I left you that flip... :)
1000 already... wow moving right along.
Trev: I did pick up the DTS-ES Haunting and I tried it out at a friends... it is definately better than the DD version which is excellent as well. My friend did not have a ES capable rig so I am looking forward to trying it out on mine, once the fabled 3801 comes in (hopefully this week). Will post results when I get it in.
I was reading a review someone posted on the HTF about the DV-37, Pioneer seems to have done a good job on this one.

Congratz on 1000 everyone! :) Man, this is more exciting than new years ;)
Bing,
Oh man, you're one sick, and creative puppy ;) Only you would think of a cardboard sub ;) I love it though! Thanks for rubbing in the fact that I don't own a Pronto yet, as everyone loves doing. Oh, but my day will come, oh yes, I WILL have a Pronto! And then you'll all be sorry (well, not really, but you'll be amazed at how darn cooler I'll be with a Pronto, heh, or something)! Muhahaha!!! Soon too! ;)
Oh, I got my math grade back...my parents never ask me about my grades so I'll bring it up to you guys instead :) I got a high C on my test, which is very disappointing. So my grades are as such for math so far:
Average: 84.22
Grade: B
Group Assignment 1--A
Group Assignment 2--A
Quiz 1--A
Group Assignment 3--A
Group Assignment 4--A
Quiz 2--F
Writing Assignment 1--A
Test 1--C
Ok, before anyone says anything, I got an 'F' on a quiz that only had TWO problems because I missed one of them. But I knew how to do it, I just missed a step. But at the end of the year we get to drop 2-3 quiz grades off the record completely. You can bet your butt that one's getting dropped. She gives us these progress reports to let us know what our current grade is, so I have a 'B' right now. Had I done better on my test and not missed that one problem I would have had an 'A' in the class dang it!
My final paper in Enlish is due tomorrow. I'll see if I can post it after all changes have been made. It's close to being an 'A' paper material/grammar-wise! I gotta stop using words like "gotta" ;) (just kidding, I honestly didn't use any slang in my paper at all!)
Oh, here's the beginning of my latest project.
HERE
This is the cockpit of the model bomber I've been working on. Hand painted and everything. Notice the buckles and other small painted details :)

Morning all! I'm back at the grindstone, er, work, and there's is a big box sitting next to me in my cubicle.. thanks Gregg! Did you get my check ok? There's 800 watts in that box, now all I need is a bigger box from SVS to arrive! :)
Hmmm... I can see the amp box and my Sony boombox out of the corner of each eye... getting strange ideas... hmmm... 800 watts of 80s music blasting through the office? :)
Heather and I watched Short Circuit last night, it arrived from Digital Eyes, I think I'll be sticking with them now that Express has gone downhill. I ordered it on Friday and got it on Monday. We enjoyed the movie, but it really needed the anamorphic treatment, lots of jaggies in this one. But it is one of my old favorites.

My HT buddy co-worker (who got me addicted in the first place ;)) saw it too and now he can't wait for me to get the sub so he can hear it! I guess I'm one of the "big boys" now, based on the size of my amp! :)

Bing, just saw the Eco-Sub photos! I thought I was the king of cardboard! :) When I was living at home, I had an entire stereo system made out of cardboard! I kid you not! When my parents tossed their old stereo (actually just a stinkin' phonograph), I salvaged the amp and speakers out of it, mounted them in cardboard boxes, built a power supply for the amp and set them up in my bedroom as my stereo system. It actually worked pretty good. My cardboard speaker enclosures actually sounded better than the original crappy ones the speakers came out of! It even had a home theater application: I'd plug the amp into the earphone jack of the 12" B&W TV to get better sound.
Now that I have an amp but no sub, maybe I should build me one of them those Eco-Subs. Of course, I'd have to build a driver out of cardboard too (as a kid I dabbled with building speaker drivers out of thin cardboard, wire and magnets, but was never able to achieve more than a 10 db efficiency :))
So, is the eco-sub a sealed (I use that term loosely of course!) or a ported design? I didn't see a port, so I assume it is a "sealed" design. Well, sealed if you apply a few layers of shipping tape to the edges! :)

Kev, any amp that enables you to have a bumper sticker that sez, "My Amp is Bigger Than Yours" is king!
With your entire system cardboard story, I think you are still king. That's pretty inovative... to use what you had at the time.
Do you remember the needle in a cone of paper that you would run on top of your siblings Ktel records that you thought was the ultimate in cool? I never understood what my sister was in such a flap about... :)
The ecosub is as Andrew told me a Quasi-infinite baffle. It was to be a sealed design, but I was thinking about putting the port in as well, then decided against, for sealed's are more forgiving :)

I wonder if cellophane would really seal the sub effectively. When the cone pulls into the box, increasing the pressure, the cellophane will push out, and vice versa. It might sound like crap (buzzing, farting, etc.), but it would be amusing to watch. :)
Now, cellophane covered with duct tape would probably work great! The cellophane would seal the enclosure, and the duct tape would keep the cellophane from moving around. Hey, maybe we could get into the cardboard box sub business! For those who can't afford a big commercial sub and find sonotubes and SVS subs overkill for their applications, the FP-12 cardboard box sub would be perfect. A sub for the masses! :)
The high-end FP-15 model (with a 15" driver) could be double-boxed for greater strength.
Not to mention the fact that these subs are biodegradable and recyclable (or made from recycled material). I doubt even SVS can make that claim! :)
Of course, running The Haunting DTS at reference level through an ecosub could result in the sub morphing and melting down like some of the objects in the movie. :)

Actually, Andrew, a cheap plastic enclosure with a paper cone driver would violate Bose copyrights, especially if we charge $1500 for it. A high quality driver in a cardboard box would outperform Bose. :)

Kevin good point on the paper vs plasticThat made me think up a dumb joke. A J6P goes into a store that carries Bose speakers, and tells the salesman, "I'd like to buy a set of those Acoustimass speakers". The salesman asks, "Paper or plastic?" :)
I have a crazy question for you guys, perhaps you could answer this one Andrew. :) I have been given the task of creating a Pronto CCF for a co-worker who is putting together a HT system that includes a CD megachanger (the Sony CDP-CX335). I have a Pronto, and I am familiar with the basic operation of most of the components they're getting, since I have the same or similar components (i.e. receiver, DVD player, RPTV, VCR) and I know how I use these pieces and how I like the buttons set up on the Pronto for these components. However, I don't have a CD megachanger, and am not very familiar with them (yes, I'm a J6P when it comes to megachangers :)). I was wondering, in your experience, how you use your megachanger and what functions on the remote you use the most. I looked at your "HTML Pronto emulator" on your web page but it mainly showed the music groups you have set up on your changer, which are obviously your preferences and not necessarily those of my co-workers. I'm just thinking for a basic megachanger setup how you'd want a Pronto set up. There's the obvious play, pause, FF/REW and track access buttons, but then there's disc access, which I'm not that familiar with on changers that hold more than 10 discs. Do you find you access by group more often or by specific CD? Do you change your CCF everytime you add a CD to the changer? Of course, I pose this question to everyone here who uses a megachanger on a semi-regular basis. I'm just curious so that I don't go into setting up a CCF completely blind for this component.
Thanks guys... KJP (J6P for megachangers) :)

I totally forgot to mention that I had some real butter on popcorn on the weekend. Don't even remember what I was watching, something on TV. I just had to melt some butter to pour over some popcorn. Ok, I didn't have to, but we had some leftover butter that I wanted to use. I'm usually a microwave popcorn eater. Still am, I've been trying a box of the Rednbaker's movie popcorn. A bit on the salty side. Anyway, had a couple of packages of the 'Light' type of popcorn and used that as my base. The small bowl of buttur that I poured on just seamed so sinful. But wow, did it taste good.
Had an early morning meeting downtown today, the bus ride down took longer than the meeting itself. Plus I was finished before any of the AV stores opened.
Does this ever happen to you? You feel like watching a movie from your collection, but not too sure which one, so you look over your collection, remembering the plot and the various scenes as you read each title. But in the end you've spend about half an hour going through and aren't even close in picking one out.

Hey Gregg, I got the amp into my rack. It just barely fit without taking the glass doors off. Hopefully it'll get enough air in there to not get hot. If I have to I can enlarge the opening in the back of the cabinet.
I'd take a picture but I don't have a digital camera and I haven't had much luck getting decent pictures of my gear with the regular camera. And there's the wait to use up the film, get it developed, scanned, etc.

Congrats on selling all your LD's at once Gregg! I went over to the Pioneer Elite page to see what a 710 was, and HOLY COW, that is a nice HDTV! I envy you this weekend getting to go shopping for that. Have fun! :) Here's a link in case anyone wants to see it too:

Gregg--an Elite Pro 710... oh la la! :) Nice set. I would have gotten an Elite, but they are too big for my room and too pricey for my budget, so I ended up with a Mitsubishi 46805. Actually, I had my eyes on the Toshiba TW40X81 early on in the year but they were backordered until the next millennium so I ended up getting the Mits. I haven't regretted my decision, it's a nice set.
So you sold all your LDs? I would have hung on to some of those DTS titles, and the Star Wars trilogy at the very least, and BTTF, at least until the DVDs come out. But then I suppose you'd get more $$ for them now.
I said last night that I fit the CS 800 into my component rack. I'm now thinking I'm going to pull it out of there and put it in the Mits TV stand. First of all, the component cavities in my TV stand are larger and are more open in the back for more ventilation, and second of all, with the amp in my rack there's no room for future expansion and I've had my eyes on a MiniDisc deck, which will need a home. Also, the heat from the amp won't affect my other components that way. So, in the next couple of nights I'll be pulling that 50 pound brick out of the rack and relocating it. Other than that it's all hooked up and ready to go as soon as the sub arrives.
I powered up the amp while checking out the system and the fan has a slight rattle to it (worn bearings?), though with the glass doors closed it's pretty quiet; in fact it makes about the same amount of noise as my DV-414 when it's playing a DVD. With a DVD playing and the sound muted, I could barely hear it from the couch. If the noise gets to be a problem I'll replace the fan.
Joey... good job on your grades! Even if you got a C, that sounds like it was one of the highest grades in the class. When most of the students fail a test, then something's wrong with either the teacher or the test.

Kevin, I wouldnt be too worried about having the amp overheat, I had it in my cabinet which is pretty much sealed and didnt have any problems. I never noticed any unusual fan noise either. Please let me know if you plan on replacing the fan. I will pay.
Greg, thanks for the link. I have an non elite 62" 4x3 now and couldnt tell the difference between it and the elite version at the time I made my purchase. I wonder that the differences are between the non elite and elite versions are now?
I still cant believe I found one buyer for all my LDs!! I saved a huge amount of time with shipping vs selling individual discs (if I could even sell them all). Tim will be keeping some of the stuff and will be putting the rest on half.com.
Trevor, how is the Haunting? It is on my list of DVDs to buy!

Looks like my fishing trip is a go. I'm leaving thursday night to head down to a friends where we'll pack and head out friday morning. There are three of us going off into the wilderness for the weekend camping and fishing. Its going to be an adventure just getting in there though as we're taking two boats...one to tow the other across the main lake then we have to portage the second smaller boat 1/2 mile into the next lake. Its this second lake we're going to fish at. There are several islands in the second lake so thats were we're camping. The only thing I'm worried about is that the two other guys I'm going with haven't done much wilderness camping so its going to be a learning process for them. I'm not to worried though they're both willing to ruff it and aren't you're average slickers:) Anyway if I haven't posted anything by say the middle of next week send out the search party:)

I guess that's how you go "all out" doing up the Pronto for a megachanger. I'm thinking my co-workers won't be that advanced... heck, I'm not that advanced! (I don't have a megachanger). After all, even if they handed me their entire CD collection, I loaded it into their changer, and programmed all the titles into the changer and the Pronto, what are they going to do when they bring home a new CD and add it in? I figure I'll start out basic with them... just have the basic operation buttons and disc access and seek buttons (for groups, etc.). If they want to catalog their entire collection we'll do that in another pass.
Of course, if I had bought the megachanger for myself, and I loaded my CD collection into it, I would be trying out the catalog/excel spreadsheet thing.
Tonight my HT buddy co-worker (not the one I'm doing the CCF for) is coming over to my house and we're going to start doing up the CCF. I'll download yours and start from there--and see if it'll meet their needs. I'll be pulling some elements from my CCF as well (such as the codes for the Outlaw 1050). I have the megachanger and their VCR for a few days, along with the remotes for their TV and DVD player so if I need to learn codes I have them available.
Just a quick question though--do you have discrete power on and off codes in your CCF for the CFD-CX335? I'll be wanting those. If not I'll just look on remotecentral.

I did try out 'The Haunting' for a short while to demo a couple of scenes.I did have to turn down the bass level using the x-30 by about 6 on the dial,,my walls were vibrating so badly it actually sounded terrible. This disc has measured bass down to 5 HZ..The Servo's can play down to 14HZ. I also connected the H/K amp to run the rear channels and leave the NAD to take care of the front three,,with this configuration the rears are still to quiet with all levels cranked to the max..I still have the rears set to the back wall which are about 11 feet behind the couch...I didn't calibrate the system with the H/K connected..I still have some major realigning and speaker arranging to do yet to have the system tweaked to the way it should be.The 60's will have to come up to the couch, but first I will cross the PS-1000 sub with them to see if it helps any.
Have fun with the camping trip Andrew.
Gregg,,After having a look at the 710 and its 64' of widescreen,I can understand why you unloaded your laser collection somewhat.:) Should be an awesome TV...Is this the same one Jehan owns?

Trevor if that HK still doesn't give you enough juice I'd consider either moving the speakers or buying some more powerful amps. The monoblocks that Bing and I just bought might do the trick and two of those would be about the same cost as the HK amp if you sold (or traded it to me) Anyway calibrate it and see if you need more power...if you do sweet talk bing into borrowing two of his mono's before he gets his sub built and see if those help. If those don't have enough power you're going to need to move them.

Kevin...opps forgot to add that yes all the discrete codes are located under the power panel under the macro side in my CCF. Note that there are two power panels there one is a simple dummy panel that has alias's to the real power panel. The real panel isn't pretty but its got nice long discriptive names which helps when you make macros. The pretty panel is the one people see:) As for the sony and loading all the songs etc...yes its a pain but once you've seen it working its well worth it (at least for me...I doubt I'd want to maintain someone elses though) If you want just copy my Jbox device over and start using that. You can delete what you don't need like the jumps to the Guide etc since you won't be using those but the IR codes and built in macros might come in handy. You will find that if you want to listen to a group that it locks itself into group mode. This is all fine and dandy but if you then want to access a CD thats not located in that group it won't let you since its still locked into group mode. You can press group to get out of group mode but now you're into a unknown state for programing macros. What I did was use the program button to always set it back to a known state ie not in group mode etc. Then depending on what you wished to do you could press group then the groups value (01 thorugh 08)or enter a specific slot number. The macros in the Jbox are all set up already so feel free to try those and customize the labels as needed. I'll be around tonight if you need help though so eiter ICQ, email or call me at 204 888 0832 if you get stuck.

I realize I need a new amp,but will have to wait until next year to get one,,I do have it narrowed down to three..The Rotel 1095,,200x5..The Parasound 2205,,220x5 or the Cinepro 3KII,,375x6.
I was hoping the H/K would help out but unfortunately it doesn't seem to make a difference. I wonder if I need a dedicated power outlet for the NAD as all my components are running from the same outlets..2 channel music is loud..DSS is loud..play a DVD and even at -20 it seems you can barely hear it..Something just doesn't seem right. I may try to demo a set of ADP's for the back to see if these would be less stress on the amp..now with my new room set-up I have 2 walls to hang di-poles,so this is now an option for me that did not exist when I originally bought the speakers in June.

Hey guys... we were up late last night programming my co-worker's Pronto. I used Andrew Pratt's CCF as a starting point and have redone the receiver/tuner and jukebox panels so far. The receiver/tuner panels are set up for the Outlaw 1050, and the jukebox (Sony CDP-CX335) panels have been fine tuned--I temporarily removed the Guide for the time being until they get their CD collection established in the changer, and added a Keypad panel to make track/disc/group/program access easier. I also added a couple of buttons that the CCF was missing--shuffle and repeat, removing the number keys from the Transport panel (they are on the Keypad panel now).
Tonight I'll be tackling their VCR (a JVC S-VHS model, not sure of the # off the top of my head), their Toshiba RPTV, and their Toshiba 2109 DVD player. Then all that'll be left are the Dish Network remote and the MD player, and the CCF will be finished. It'll be cool when it's finished, and I might even get some ideas for tweaking my CCF after I'm done.

Have fun Andrew... It has been at least 15 years or so since I went camping, the last time I think the winter of my senior year in high school. Dang cold too. Slept in a sleeping bag with all my clothes on and still froze most of the night. The second day we fished some and then went back to camp for serious beer drinking. I had WAY too much, and did not feel all that great the next morning when I woke up.
One of my friends was already up cooking breakfast, eggs with venison sausage. I was sooo hungry I couldn't wait, and figured it would help with my hangover. Just as he was taking the pan off the top of the fire and about to serve the eggs, the handle on the pan broke and all the food fell to the dirt. I nearly cried when he said that was all the food we had, and it would take over an hour to break camp and get back to town. Yep, you guessed it, we scooped it off the ground and ate it anyway! Worst breakfast I ever had, as the dirt made it way too gritty! :) Yep, call me a city slicker as well...

Do not connect the same input or speaker to more than one channel...So maybe this is why it doesn't sound quiet right when I tried to use the H/K for Bi-amping..Maybe but not 100% sure.

At first I thought it was just a bad registry file, so I was just planning to use old scanreg and pick an older registry. Well not that simple, couldn't get the hd to boot, so used a boot disc. Took a look at C: and there's no Windows and Program Files is missing as well. Plus there's a few weird character files and directories. Futzed around a bit and saved some of her docs onto a floppy. I think her whole C drive is a gonner. She's going to take it in to have the shop look at it. I'm saying the drive is toast. So at least I've prepared her for the worst. Luckily she doesn't keep anything too imporant on her HD.
Makes me think that I should be backing up my stuff now. :)

Morning all. Yep, I'm back. Yesterday afternoon our internet connection was down so I had to do real work instead of post on the TTP. :) They said the ISP was having troubles, but I wonder if they just did it on purpose to get us to do real work. :)
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for car speakers. A few months ago I replaced the factory headunit in my Saturn with a Sony MD unit and CD changer, but still using the factory 6 3/4" speakers (which sound terrible). There are lots of car speakers out there--Pioneer, Jensen, Polk, Sony, Infinity, Blaupunkt, JBL... I'm looking for decent sounding speakers, ones that sound natural (not overly harsh or bright), like the way we like our home speakers to sound. No subs either--save those for the home theater. :) I don't need the windows bulging out of my car.
I used to have Pioneers in my car years ago and I liked them, but I was younger and less mellow then. :) Does anyone have any suggestions?

Good morning everybody!
Had a very busy day yesterday. Packing up all my LDs. I was able to get them into 5 boxes each weighing 69 pounds. The UPS weight max is 70 so just right. Then I had to pack up the elite 99 and the old Pioneer 606 receiver I had. UPS must love me!
My wife canned the Elite 710!! (the bitch :)) She wants a nice bedroom set - which she deserves so that is #1. I quickly negotiated an ISF calibration and possibly an elcheapo hottub (if I can find one) so in the short term I will be okay.
Now I am looking for a small upgrade to my family room receiver from the 606. Please keep an eye open for me. Something like a denon 3300 (maybe to nice), Pioneer 509, or 608. I want to send 275-450??
Other strickly Canadian items:
Smarties (like M&Ms- not like little sugar pills)
Aero Bars
Shreddies Cereal
Other items???
Have a great day!

Great job on the page flip Trev.
Morning Kev, can't add any info here on car speakers. But you did remind me that my car speakers suck. They're factory Honda units and although I'd love to upgrade the whole unit, I just can't really see the need. Don't drive that much and when I do, I don't have any music playing. I guess when I used to drive to work everyday it mattered more. Now I think I'd rather spend the money on my HT gear.
Up early trying to get some work done. But so far not been very productive.

A belated good morning from the right coast. We're having a delightful cold spell at the moment. Although the shift from summer to fall weather doesn't usually happen until mid-October, recent thunderstorms have combined to drop temperatures here. Last night the temperature actually plunged into the 70s. Yeah!!
I gather from a quick scan of the recent posts that we're listing things that are uniquely Canadian. If so, allow me to add "Timely Olympics Coverage" to the list. NBC is providing what is undoubtedly the WORST Olympic coverage in history.
I need to rent some good movies for the weekend. Any new releases worth watching?

Morning everyone!
Took the day off from work, was getting burned out. Plus today is the first day of the Texas State Fair in Dallas, so we are about to set off over that way. Will let you know how that goes later.
Canadien:
Coffee Crisp? Never heard of it.
Aero's? Nope.
Shreddies? Nope.
Smarties? Nope.
American:
Worst Olympic coverage from NBC? Yep!
Chris - since I only get movies from Netflix any more, I can't recommend any good BB new releases. We did watch Cider House Rules last weekend, not really a new release, but definitely worth watching.
Kevin - Pioneer 6X9 car speakers have always sounded great to me.

I'm back after being sick (since Tuesday). Both Mandi and I have missed three days from work this week, and in fact she's home sick again today. It's been nothing short of an extremely unpleasant week, that's for sure! Hopefully I'll feel better in time for the weekend as I have some cool plans.
Story:
I got some cool "getting out of debt" presents, giving myself two week's worth of paychecks to purchase something for myself, and I wound up getting a Pronto (freaking FINALLY!), a Mickey Mouse Statue to match my other two (4 more to go), a really nice and extremely complicated bomber model for my father (I'm painting it by hand and everything, should look good on his desk), and my latest project, an RC glider (see this site for more info, it's the Zagi 400). I hope to have it's maiden test flight on saturday at the park. I built the entire thing and am pretty excited with how it turned out. I think I have a defective speed control chip though, so I'm taking it into the shop tonight to see. But if all goes well she'll be ready to fly tomorrow :) I'm really excited about it, as I've ALWAYS wanted an RC plane! And this one was insanely inexpensive, even with the radio gear thrown in. Do you guys want me to take pictures of its first flight? :) (or rather have Mandi do it as my hands will be full, heh)
Had another math quiz, and I got a 9/10 on it...I'm definitely slipping! And now we have all of these geometric theories to nail down. I'm not sure how my grade is going to go now. I hope gravity doesn't take it down!
My fish had babies. I've got tiny little baby guppies now. It's pretty neat. These fish are freaking horny though, they're always mating. After my tank is finished cycling I think I'm going to get three fish of DIFFERENT species so they don't just sit there and swim, eat, and hump all day long.
For those of you that wanted to read it, here's the FINAL draft of my paper I did for my English class (Remembering an Event). You can grab it HERE.
Hmmm...what else...
Oh, my new project slipped...damnit...it was supposed to start on Monday (which was why I didn't feel bad being home sick this week, except I forgot if I had any vacation/sick time left, if not I'm screwed next week). One of the vendors is being weird so we gotta wait approximately a month before we see anything. But get this, I'm getting my own lab now :) It's being wired as we speak. Unfortunately I can't say what the project is, but let me tell you this: I'm getting a big comfy couch, HT setup, and then my project which ties it all together. I wish I could say more, but I can't. This is my dream project though! Oh, and passcode entry so no one but my crew can gain access to the room. It's HT related though, and that makes me happy. And I *THINK* I get to give them a list of gear to buy, on the company's budget. So I may be asking you guys for help in that department with high end gear. Can't wait, wish I could say more though...
Gotta run for now, have some homework to do...
Glad to be back :)

Chris, So can you get CBC down there? Nothing like watching events live. We've finally got some rain so its starting to feel like fall. Sorry can't help on the movie rental suggestions. I think I'll be watching Conan.
Greg, good job on post 100.
Coffee Crisp - chocolate bar with waffers that tastes like coffee
Aero's - milk chocolate bar with little bubbles throughout the bar
Shreddies - I think these are little squares of shredded wheat(for the life of me I can't picture it right now)
Smarties - candy coated chocolate drops, like M&M's
Joey, Glad to hear that you're feeling much better. What? you get a great consolidation loan and you go blow a wad of cash on a Pronto? ;) Damn I'm jealous! I want one, but there's no way in hell I can justify one. Would love to see some photo's of the model flying. I'll have to get my but in gear to post some fishing pics I got from my fishing outing. Love to hear when you think 9/10 is a slipping mark. Can't seem to access your english paper. Wow, that sounds like an awesome project! Here I was thinking the couch was for you to sleep on cause of all the late nights you'll be spending at work. Now it sounds like you've got some serious testing to do. :) Hey, we'll be happy to help you spend the money. :) Hmm, a couple of SVS subs, come to mind. Runco DLP projector, or maybe an Elite 710. So if we were ever to head down your way, would we be able to get a tour of your lab? I'd imagine once they buy all this stuff, they'll keep it around for a bit, or maybe they'll sell it to staff at a reduced cost? Now that's one way your employer can help with your HT hobby.

I went down to Best Buy during lunch (yes, I know! But it's the closest place to where I work that carries audio toys!) :) Anyhoo, I was just browsing to see if they had the new Sony MXD-D5C yet (no, but they have the MXD-D3, no thanks). I also listened to some car speakers. I can look all I want in the Crutchfield catalog, but I can't tell how they sound from that. I listened to some Pioneers, some Clarions, some Rockford Fosgate, some Cerwin Vega. I liked the sound of the Cerwin Vegas the best--they seemed crisper and the drivers seemed to blend in the best. I didn't care for the sound of the Pioneers--I could hear the woofer and tweeter separately, they didn't blend together very well. But I'll try another store or two (such as Tweeter) to make some more comparisons. Someone on HTF recommends MB Quart speakers, I looked on their web site and they seem nice but I bet they're pricey. There is a dealer pretty close by, so maybe I'll drop in one of these days and check 'em out.
Here's my Best Buy story for the day. You know how they have the car speakers set up, mounted in these panels with the buttons so you can switch from one set of speakers to another? Well, at least 2 pairs that I listened to were wired out of phase, so they sounded horrible. Another pair had only one speaker working. Clueless. :)
Joey, I'd love to have your job! :) Didn't you say that your company does the software for CD burners or something? What kind of HT stuff do they do, or would that breach your "top secret" clearance? :) Hopefully some day you can tell us what your project is. Do they make consumer products? Can I go to the software shelves at, uh, Best Buy ;) and grab a software package that has some of Joey 6P's code embedded within?
I'll second Paul Wu's suggestion of an Elite 710 and a pair of SVS subs. Or a pair of sonosubs built by our own Joey 6P! :) As for speakers, I'm kinda partial to Platinum Audio speakers (since I have 'em in my HT), too bad they folded, but some of their stuff is still available on audioadvisor.com.

Kevin, over the summer I was looking a auto speakers and stuff and it was pretty neat to see some of those setups. But I had to wonder that those speakers would probably sound different in my car. One thing was having those subs booming out tunes during a demo. I thought, that's terrible bass! But I guess some people like that. Plus when I figured out some prices for new head units plus speakers, I figured I'd get more use if I spent the money on my homesystem. Also, I can't believe all those fancy graphics on some of those head units! Jesh, all I want is a simple clock, track, and station, I don't need no stinking graphic equalizer showing the freq response.
Joey, I have to add Easter Egg! Everybody does it! A J6P production. or QC by J6P and crew with a shoutout to the TTP folks. :)

Unfortunately I can't really give out any other info on the new project, though I'd like to. It's just HT related, and if it's cool I'll make sure to tell you guys about it as soon as they company announces it. Until then I could get into buku legal trouble for giving out any specifics.
I have worked on Adaptec 4, MusicMatch, Sonic Foundry's ACID (awesome program), a buttload of HP CD-Writer drives (depending on the size of the butt), and some other goodies (Click Radio, Sound Forge, etc...)
What the heck were you doing at Best Buy in the first place? ;) I've seen people punished brutally for less ;)

Punk, it's so damn cool!
I have a bunch of bands queued up on MusicMatch and wanted to name off some of the song titles just to burn up a post. I LOVE sarcastic well-written political punk!:
A Certain Canadian Band (won't mention their name as the name may be considered offensive)
A sarcastic hardcore political punk from the early 90's/late 80's I think...
"Kill the Hosers"
"Proud to be Canadian (pass me another beer)"
"Ronald McRayGun"
NOFX
Extremely sarcastic band, gotta love 'em! They love to play with words...
"Monosyllabic Girl"
"Please Play This Song on the Radio"
"Soul Doubt" (a play on words - "Sold Out")
"Hobophobic (scared of bums)"
"Quart in Session"
"Flossing a Dead Horse"
Bad Religion (my personal favorite)
More political punk, extremely well written lyrics and messages though, you can generally tell by their song titles. The lead singer, Greg Graffin, used to be a professor of Biology at the University of CA, San Diego. He also realeased a folk album a few years ago which I actually really like. Not your average rowdy punk band. They've been labeled a "Folk Punk" band, and have really cool vocal harmonies and everything...
"Mediocrity"
"Pessimistic Lines"
"Markovian Process"
"Delerium of Disorder"
"Entropy"
"Universal Cynic"
"Leon" (which is actually the Christmas song Noel but reversed with screwy lyrics, heh)
Dead Kennedys
As political as they get! Jello Biafra (the lead singer) has a few spoken word albums AND ran for mayor of San Fransisco quite a few years back. Anti-racism band as well, which is talked about in one of their songs "Nazi Punks F*CK Off!":
"Holiday in Cambodia"
"California Uber Alles"
"I Fought the Law (and I won)"
"Saturday Night Holocaust"
"Night of the Living Rednecks"
Got Punk?

If you like, I could frown every other sentence. :( And rant and rave and complain all the time :( and piss and moan and basically be a pill all the time and really make your lives miserable! :( but I'm more likely to get booted off the forum being that way than by being happy. ;)
What's interesting, is though I use the smilies, I can't see them while reading posts (from work), due to my stealth browsing proxy's bitmap stripper (that sounds almost vulgar, doesn't it?)
So, Joey, you're a QA guy then. Basically your job is to break things. :) Oops, another smiley.
A while ago our QA manager had this written on her whiteboard in her cube: "QA Mission Statement: We don't design it, we don't write it, we just break it." An addendum was added that read "Then we laugh at the person who wrote it."
Does this forum have anything besides the basic smiley :) and frowney :(? Those are the only ones listed in the FAQ.

The first company I worked for I gradually moved up to getting my own office. First thing I did was rearange the furniture. But that lasted about a year. I moved downtown to a nice shared office with a great view of the mountains. Although I didn't get a chance to really enjoy the view as I was staring at my computer most of the time. This lasted just under a year before I moved to my current position. I'm in the basement with no windows and no air con and have I mentioned that it's been like an oven this week? This could make a guy go postal. :M We've complained quite a bit so we'll have to see what happens on Monday. What's the worse is when you step outside it's a nice and comfortable temp and you walk into our doors and bam, heat wave. Okay enough griping.

Anybody going to buy any new DVD's this weekend.??
I am in the mood to pick up another one, just not sure as to which one though.
Just an update on my brother Trent. He is out of the hospital now and getting around on crutches. Still having some problems with his stomach,,I guess being on intravenis and morphine for a couple of weeks takes time for the stomach to start functioning normally. I am just glad he is on his feet again..

Trev, the price Chapters was quoting $450. Did you hear about the shortage? Sony says only 500,000 units will make it to NA and 100,000 units per week till after Xmas. Glad to hear your brother's doing better. Wasn't planning on buying anything this weekend but picked up Fly/Fly2 for 17.49 at Costco, that's the newer Fly. Price was too good to resist.
Flip the page. :)

Well I'm trying to decide if I should buy a wack load more of these mono blocks to complete my system, can't decide... I would like to end up with 7 of these in total, 6 for EX, or what ever and the 7th for the sub. This would complete the first phase of migration to separates. Currently I have 3, but I was thinking I would like to buy more powerful amps, say 200w/ch for the mains. The appeal of these monos is my system would be balanced, though I'm not sure how important that is as my current set-up is unbalanced in power and I think it still sounds great. The mono are rated at 120w 8ohms. While this is plenty of power and I plan to run it bi-amped with my Denon. I would like the marantz MA 700 (200w) or simular for the mains, because once I do go pre/pro, I won't have the additional power of the receiver for bi-amping, and you all know how it is... You can never have too much power!

Pat, if you want, I can put you on as TTP moderator, and you can have your cake and eat it too! What do you want to moderate? Hey, we really don't want to loose you here! :)
Kevin, glad to see you took my friendly joust in the manner intended.
Regarding the office, you guys should see my place! I have 2 other people in the office. My natural line of defense is, I designed what is known as the "Bunker office". It's a real crowd pleaser for management I am sure. No one, I repeat no one can see my back without me seeing them first, haha.
It's really quite a creative arrangement with a desk turned 180 degrees, and stuff stacked around the perimeter of the desk. (walls). Small refridgerator is the main monitor block from person #2. You know paper trays, left over network component bays that act as little storage cubbies. hehe.
Now to the other wall, I have a Bush workstation of my own that I took to work because the jerks took me away from my computer desk with rolled top and such. The workstation sits right at the end of the desk, yup, you got it, 180 degrees back toward the other wall, effectively blocking out everything except about a 22" path to get out, ROFLMAO. I do have room for 1 visitor, a wood chair that sits right in the corner. They may watch me over the network, but they sure don't watch me over my back, lol.
Hey, that was a real TTP post, huh? :B
If you don't like it, I got something here for you. :F haha.

I agree, Lex, never leave your back exposed, as you never know who will sneak up on you! I have been in my current office about 8 months now and have rearranged the furniture three different ways to try and get it the way I like. I have one wall that is nothing but floor to ceiling windows, and cannot seem to be able to position my desk so that I can look out without turning around, as you guessed it, the window is the back wall of my office. The office is also longer than it is wide, so it looks crazy to have my desk facing anyway except straight at the door, which puts the window at my BACK again.
I also get monitored via the network police at work which is why most of my posts come in the early am or evening hours.
KJP - you may have to walk me through how you surf privately at work as I popped up on the top 5 on-line users in the building, which is a no no. Damn Big Brother!! Someone told me to install a proxy server, but that doesn't mean anything to mean as I am a bean counter, not a computer guru!

Currently our layout is single cubes with the odd dual cube, mine being a dual cube because my neighbor and I decided to remove the wall between us.
We just finished a Office layout redesign, we are getting new furniture of the modular type where the cube walls are the supporting structure for the cabinets and hutches. In the re-design the great minds thought it best to make quad cubes with the work stations in the corners. It was said that studies have shown this arrangement is conducive to team based ideas and relations.
Well, sure, but this would put our backs to the each other and to people entering the mega cube. Short of it, we revolted and said that we can not have this and that we needed our space and privicy. The external consultant took our ideas and desires and again gave us back the same thing, what we did not want. Hellooo, what part of "We don't like that and can't work like that" do you not understand?
Well, after a meeting with our managers, staff and the "consultant" we were able to come to some sort of a agreement. My cube will still be a dual cube with the same shape and dimensions, and my work station is planned in the corner of the outer wall(which is not bad, my back is not to traffic). Looking at the new furniture, it looks as if I can have my WS exactly where it is now so I'm happy. Unfortunatly there are still some quad cubes for this is the way the furniture was designed to work, at least now there are only 3 from the originally planned 12. Another case of not asking the people that do the work, what they would like, rather, I'll tell you what you would like....
Speaking of net police...How do you guys get away with all the time on the HTG during work hours?
Must have to be part of IS to do that unnoticed.

Like Nike says, I just do it, lol. Actually, as an underpaid state employee, I must have my fringe benefits. One of those is when I free my mind of programming stuff, (programmers know you must do this regularly), I use that time to surf htguide. :) I also use pop mail to stay in touch all day every day.
So, it's a stress release, not unlike that squishy ball I used to have. Some low life stole my squishy ball at work, if you can believe that!
Not one word has been said to me about my surfing via the network police. That doesn't mean they don't know. I can't say that for sure. But I do know that it hasn't impacted my work. If anything, it's made me more productive during a transitionary period of moving away from a mainframe to a client server environment. The fact is, my associates that never did any personal computing outside of work, are behind me in understanding PC client tools such as WS-FTP, PC file management, text files at the PC level, etc...
I have taken some leadership roles in terms of being the first person to accomplish certain things with SAP tools at our shop. So much so, that I really have become the table load expert, doing writeups on use of WS-FTP and such.
So in essense, the very things I have been doing on the side the past 5 years, are paying dividends for my employer now! Ain't that a hoot? :B
Now, if they would just pay me damnit! lol.
Yes, I could leave and do something else. I certainly have thought about it. But my job could be a lot worse than it is, and where else am I going to get 30 days off a year PLUS holidays?!
With sick leave and all, I figure I have to work 10 months out of the year. With a paid retirement account, that ain't a bad deal, u know? In fact, I have 325 hours of vacation time built up right now, and I just took a week off last month! Eat your heart out short timers, lol.

Greg, that sucks being one of the top 5. I guess that's one stat you could live with being on the bottom. Well I know that net tracking software is pretty sophisticated now that they can even monitor what's on your screen and key strokes, pretty scary. Only thing I can suggest is that any surfing can be done on the lunch hour, and what you're doing before and after work. Did they tell you how many hours the top 5 have or whatever benchmark they are using? Then you'll have to cool it for a month. Oh and put in another hash mark as I'm a bean counter too. Oh yeah just remember that at certain times people can see what's on your monitor off the reflection on the window behind you. :)
Bing, yeah gotta love those outside consultants. A lot of money can be saved if people talked to other people. What part of NO do you not understand? Our net usage isn't monitored as closely as it should be.

Surfing at work...ah yes, the staple of my existence!
Now that I have a cubicle I've positioned my desk to rest just to the left of the door, meaning when I'm sitting at my desk I'm facing my door. That means my computer is facing a wall. As far as everyone at work knows I do this to "be able to keep an eye on my crew while they work", but we all know the REAL reason I'm faced that way, heh. I also have a guest chair, but by the time someone gets to it I've already switched PCs on my switchbox. You hold down the right mouse button and click the thumb button and it switches channels. This means you can sit as you normally would, without looking obvious by having to physically reach for the switchbox when someones coming. Two clicks of the mouse and I'm doing something work related (which is usually running anyhow, otherwise they wouldn't have made me a test coordinator, I'd still be a tester).
Also, I work for a company that actually recommends you surf the internet while you're not working on a project to "learn more about current technology". So everyone else has their Fantasy Football, their Chat Lines, and whatever else they can think of. But since my new peoject revolves around home theater I'm free to cruise the HTG as I wish, as they see it as research believe it or not, heh. I guess it's only research if I go somewhere other than the TTP in this forum though ;) I lucked out in that department, as I really honestly don't know what I'd do with my day if I didn't have the TTP. First thing I do when I get in in the mornings is get my breakfast, check my email accounts, cruise the TTP, and then read any work related material that has been sent to me. Fun Stuff.
Gotta run, have to prepare my airplane for flight! I'm so excited! I hope it doesn't crash...expect pictures and movies later (hopefully)!

Fortunately, where I work they don't really care what we do on the net as long as we get our work done. Plus I am friends with a couple of the IT guys, and while they keep logs, so far no managers have asked to see them. Therefore, I'm pretty safe on these forums for now. The problem I have is my cubicle. Low walls, the opening to my back makes it impossible to hide my screen from anyone who walks by. Hence the stealth browser. Basically it strips out bitmaps, fonts, and colors and makes web pages look like plain text, and the browser is just an IE window inside a VB form with no toolbar, address bar etc. so to a passerby it doesn't look like I'm on the web.
The stealth browser consists of two pieces. The proxy, which strips the IMG, font, and emphasis tags out of the HTML before the browser gets it (this is a freeware proxy called Junkbuster which I enhanced), and the stealth browser which is just a VB program that uses the IE browser control to display the browser window in an innocous window. Plus, it has an auto-hide mode: if I neglect the browser window for a minute, or press the Esc key, the window hides itself automatically. Then when the "danger" passes, I click on a tray icon and my browser comes right back where I left off. Sometimes it's great to be a programmer. :)
Joey, nice plane you got. I was into airplanes when I was a kid and always wanted a RC plane, but they were too expensive.

Paul - they use "clicks" and "hits" when comparing the usage, plus the hours logged onto one site in particular. This killed me on keeping up with TTP as I would just keep it open in a small window and every once in a while click "refresh" to see if anybody posted anything new. So now I just click and check on the TTP once in the morning, once at lunch, and then maybe once mid afternoon, and obviously post as little as possible when at work. I will drop off the list quickly this way as I might be on for about 20 minutes a day now, compared to all day like I was for a while.
It's funny, as I am salaried, I can spend 8 hours or 18 hours a day there if needed to get my work done, but they still monitor my time spent on the web. I told them if I was going to playboy.com at work it would be worth monitoring me, but I'm not stupid. I do that at home! ;)

Lex, now your getting into the spirit, now what's this 30 days off PLUS holidays? does that mean you get 30 days vacation plus even more vacation time or does holidays just mean the usual public holidays? Can't compete with those banked vacation hours. But I start with 4 weeks vacation, and I've only been at my job for just over a year. :) Plus since I couldn't take some vacation last year, I still have 10 days in the bank.
Joey, that's a pretty sweat setup, especially the mouse click switch. Gotta love when you have to surf the HT groups as research. :) Oh and I was thinking, what will the company do with all that gear that they will be buying? I'm sure they'll keep some of it for internal use, but maybe some will have to be sold off? I see an upgrade opportunity here. Have fun with the model. Loved the engine test.
Kevin, Now that's a great stealth setup.
Greg, Ah, I see. You should easily drop down the list. I've pretty much got my browser open all the time so I would look real bad. :)

Morning all!
Just woke up and watched some of Apocalypse Now, great film!
Well, I went to fly my new plane yesterday and the results were...well...not as planned...
I got to the park and found a clearing and we "set up camp" to get this bad boy in the air. I hooked up the batteries, tested the flaps, and checked the engine. All was well! The wind was a little too much, but I was determined to fly my "Blue Angel" (I'm going to decorate it like one of the Blue Angels soon).
I throttled up, and pointed her into the wind. You're supposed to throw her like a glider, which I did, but it didn't need much persuation, as it pretty much took off out of my hand without assistance.
I pulled back on the flaps and that sucker went upwards, climbing into the sky. "BBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" Man it was exciting to see it work!
Then, a gust of wind hit, BLAM, it changed direction and started coming back at me, with GREAT speed.
I tried to turn it right, and then left, but it was being carried by the wind (because of its light weight) and hauling some serious ass.
Then another gust of wind hit from the left side, sending it into a spiral, down towards the ground.
The engine buzzed in protest, trying to keep control, but to no avail.
*SMACK* Right straight into the ground at full speed.
I cut off power to the engine and ran over. Much to my surprise the whole craft was still in perfect shape, minus the fact that there was grass stuck on it. I picked it up and waited for a minute, and the wind died down. I wasn't going to be defeated this easily. I hit the throttle to full and toss it again. "BBBBZZZZZZZZ--ZZ--ZZ--zz--z-z--choke---choke---z" *CRASH*
What the hell?
I picked her up and throttled again. The propellor started to spin but stopped immedaitely. The wind was starting to pick up now anyhow, so it was a moot point to try to get it to fly again. But still, something was definitely wrong with the engine.
I take everything back home and test the battery. It's rather dead.
I took everything back to Hobby Town U.S.A. and ask them what happened. They looked at my charger (which is used for the remote controlled car) and realize I was trying to cram WAY to much juice into the battery in too short of a time. I fried my battery. Damnit!
So they're running tests on it, and until then I'm out of a battery, which means I'm unable to fly my plane. I had 30 seconds of enjoyment, and now I've got to wait over the next week. What a bummer.
Mandi took pictures but NONE of them turned out. You can see me launching it in one movie, but then she can't floow the plane, so you see it take off and then all you can do is hear it buzzing around. I'll probably post that later.
But there's my update...the plane is back in the shop...what a bummer...

hey guys we survived:) Teh portage was brutal (16 foot aluminium boats are heavy esp on uneven ground up hills. the portage was 750 meters so it wasn't that long but the steep hills and large rocks made it tough going. Anyway it was worth it since the lake was fantastic. We caught a lot of walleye a few bass and the odd northern. I managed to snag a 28.25" walleye which was cool (largest one of the group!) The camp site we picked was great as well nice view of the lake with shelter from the wind and way out at the end of a peninsula. We took a good number of photos so i'll get them scanned in when I get them back and post them for you all.
Congrats on the pronto joey...I've always wanted an RC plane but I always though learning to land one could get expensive!
Gregg so you're an admin now...I wish you all the best in your new role...please don't forget about us over here...
Trevor good to hear your brother is doing okay.
Offices well I'm in a long narrow cubical now that has me facing one wall with my workstation etc along that wall...maps on the other and our continuos window looking out over the marsh on the end. We're redesigning the whole mapping area though so hopefully I'll get some new office furniture etc...I do know I'm moving closer to the other guys in my dept so thats going to be cool. As for surfing during work if our IS dept is tracking that I'm going to show up pretty high since I keep a IE window open all day and just refresh every now and then...email runs all the time as well and checks the account(s) every few minutes. I usually check in first thing, then again at lunch and again before I leave for home.
And yes i would say yes if asked to be an admin:)

Andrew, glad the fishing went well. I don't fish. I just don't enjoy sitting on my ass tossing a hook with stuff on it into the water. I'd rather sit on my ass, sipping on a lemonade, in the air conditioned room, watching a DVD. :D
Re: office/cubicle location - I have the prime corner spot, my monitor is catty-cornered toward the other side of the cubicle opening so my backside is not exposed to prying eyes. Plus, I'm in the IS department, so I am one of the "watchers". :D We don't monitor unless we have a reason to keep tabs on an employee (We have more important things to do than just check the websurfage).
I now get up to $60/month to pay for DSL/CableModel access so that the IS department employees can access our office network via VPN is emergencies can be handled remotely (usually on the weekends). Cool, huh?
J6P, sorry about your RC plane, that premature battery-itis can get embarrassing in front of your girlfriend, huh? :D

Joey - sorry it was such a short maiden voyage, better luck next time and I'm looking forward to seeing some pix of the plane in action.

Dan - I have seen the Rollercoaster Tycoon several times in the stores, almost picked it up once. Is it really that much fun?

Pl@t - that is cool that they are paying for your ISP - $60 a month I would get the best cable modem or DSL I could find for that price, you might even check into a T1 line! :E

Hey Kids,
I was FINALLY catching up on some "chores" this weekend. I updated my page (been wanting to for months) including a movie of my laser show and a NEW VRML 360 degree picture of my HT. It's not the best picture in the world, but you get the idea :) Check it out...most of the changes are located on THIS page.
While I still have the digital camera does anyone have any recommendations of anything else to take HT related for that page? Any close ups of anything in particular?
I hope to have the camera for a few more days as I will definitely want to take pictures of my Pronto ;) and my new statue, both should be here early this week!
Pl@ & Gregg,
I haven't forgotten about the MP3 versions of the 80's collection, I've just had a lot to do. I will try to get them done ASAP. I can make one copy here and then make a copy of it at work, and then I can send them as soon as I get paid on Thursday.
Please lemme know what you guys think of the laser show movie and the new VRML on my page, I wanna make my page kick ass :)
Gotta run for now...

Hey all!
Andrew, good to hear you had a good trip. ah portages, gotta love those. I remember during one of my canoe portages, I kept thinking about those voyageurs, you know the ones that explored Canada in those 500lb birch bark canoes? Thinking about the distances and the loads thay had to carry, made my portage seem trivial, though it didn't help much knowing that they only live to the ripe old age of 28 years :B
Joey, too bad about the plane..next time Orville!
Just got the rough cuts done today. It was a family supper get together, so time was also required for socializing :(
That 1" MDF is one ugly material to work with. It's so big and heavy, I can't belive some designs double laminate the entire box with this stuff. My front baffle is the only board that is double laminated with the 1" MDF.
One thing is for sure, this box ain't moving no where, no matter how much it shakes :B

Congrats on the maiden flight, Joey. Just remember, the Wright Brother's first flight lasted only 12 seconds, and their first plane only made four flights before a gust of wind blew it over and ruined it. With a new battery and a calmer day you should have better luck with it. Funny, I just watched the IMAX DVD "The Magic of Flight" yesterday. It was pretty good.
For those concerned about big brother and keeping a browser open, note that they can't tell if you have a browser open or not, they can only detect http requests. If you bring up a page, they'll see http requests for the page and the images on the page, but you could keep that page open all day and they'll never know it, unless they are running snooping software on your PC (and a quick trip through the task manager can disable those quickly enough ;))
So, if you bring up a TTP page and then spend 30 minutes reading it, they'll only see one page request plus the bitmaps. Once it's all read it's local on your PC and they can't tell you're looking at a browser window instead of what you're "supposed" to be doing... unless someone can see your screen!
See ya... KJP

Rollercoaster Tycoon and it's two addon on packs (Corkscrew Folies and Loopy Landscapes) for part of an immesnly detailed little game where you can pretty much control and build ANYTHING. If you're into theme parks and get a thrill from the idea of designing your own as I do then you should give the game a look see... When I do a TTP Park I will be abple to post up pics online, so it doesn't matter if anyone has the game or not, unless you want to see it running of course. :)

What an odd occurance...
Lately I've been listening to the Broadway Soundtrack for one of my favorite musicals, 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' (yes, I like some showtunes...no, I'm not gay, heh). And last night Mandi and I watched the 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' DVD. I'm beginning to think I'm graduating from J6P status (being just plain ignorant) to Charlie Brown status (being just plain clumsy).
Think about, Charlie Brown never could get his kite to fly, and I can't get my plane to fly...
Anyhow, as it turns out, I was on Snoopy.Com, the official Peanuts site, and today, of all days, is the Peanuts' 50th Anniversary! How's that for timing?

Joey: Oh good grief! :) My personal favorite Peanuts thing is when Sally called Linus her "sweet babboo". The term "sweet babboo" has become permanently etched into the Patz family vocabulary.
Here's a little Peanuts trivia question for you: What was the name of the red-haired girl that Charlie Brown always wanted to meet? Hint #1: it's mentioned in Happy New Year, Charlie Brown. Hint #2: It's also the name of my lovely spousal unit (though she isn't red-haired). ;)

Happy Birthday Pat. Hope you have a great day. Doesn't it just suck when you have to work on your birthday? One time I had just started a part-time job in highschool. Well it just so happened that I had to work on my birthday, no big deal I was getting paid. $$$ Well, I find out the following week the 10 hours I put in was only worth $20! That was the only day I worked that week, and when I found that out, I quit right there. Oh and get this the guy I worked for was our neighbour down the street. So I would see him now and then.
More work coming down the pipeline. Will post later.

Actually, Joey, the Pythagorean theorem is about the only one I've ever used in real life. You'll need it when you want to figure out the height and width of a TV screen given its diagonal size and aspect ratio. Now, the 2 gazillion other theorems that were shoved down my throat in 10th grade geometry have been of little or no use since then (except maybe calculating areas, stuff like that is useful when designing sonosubs).
Now having to write out (and memorize) these elaborate proofs was just a complete waste of time and brain capacity. In fact, 75% of what they taught me in school has been utterly useless since.
Uh-oh, my Easy CD Creator just blew up right in the middle of creating a CD. Application error... I think there's a coaster sitting in my CD drive now. And I just upgraded it too. Go figure. Or maybe not... the CD seems to play fine. It must have exploded after it finished burning the cd.

Andrew,
I can't read one of the bookmarks you gave me, it's in French:
La Mission de Canards Illimites Canada est de conserver les terres humides et habitats qui s'y rattachent au benefice de la sauvagine nord-americaine, et de promouvoir un environnement sain pour la faune et les humains.
I think it roughly translates to:
Season duck cavity with salt and pepper. Add oysters, drained and chopped, to bread stuffing. Use oyster liquid as part of liquid to moisten. Lightly stuff duck. Place remainder in separate pan to bake with duck. Mix butter, lemon juice, paprika and thyme. Bake duck on rack in covered roaster in 325 deg. Oven for about 2 1/2 hours. Baste often with lemon mixture. Baste dressing with duck drippings. Remove cover at the last to brown duck.
PS, it says to season "duck cavity"...do they mean its butt? ;) I also see "duck drippings" in that recipe...oh man, I'm not even going to ask :B

You're called J6P for other reasons... Joe throw up 6 Poloroids :B
Paul: Thats' easy for you to say Bro! Nice use of acronyms.
Chris, Trev: Actually I didn't mind The Beach, sure the story was bad, but there was something I liked about it, certainly a renter. I thought Boiler Room was good on the surface and seemed like a good show, but as it went on I thought the story was full of holes and a lot of "As If's!" still, worth a watch.
Kevin: What was the name of the red head girl?
Pat: Hope you enjoyed your B'day dinner!
Daniel: I have a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon, have never played it though.

So, Joey, are you staring out the window waiting for that UPS truck to pull up? You sound like I was the day my RPTV was delivered! :)Kevin: What was the name of the red head girl?No one has posted a guess yet, so I'll give it a while before I post the answer. Go back a page and check my clues again. A long time TTPer should be able to figure it out from those.Guys, I am impressed with some of the technical expertise here. Why is word-wrap not working on this page?
Trevor: I noticed your post regarding problems with un-playable discs. I can't help but wonder if you don't have something wrong with your 3108. My 3109 has never missed a beat. Anyway, I'd sure like to see a side-by-side comparison of the Pioneer DV-37 and the Toshiba 6200.

Uhoh HTG was gone widescreen anamorphic.... I think? It's Lexman's post with his really long "tracking number" that's causing it. Lex, can you please edit that post? Most of us only have 4:3 monitors and Microsoft didn't put a letterboxing option in IE5. As a result, we have to use pan & scan to read our posts. :)
One side effect of my stealth browser is that the TTP is always widescreen. What's funny is the HTF wraps properly but the HTG doesn't. I'll figger it out someday, but in the meantime, I just have to scroll.

Pat,

Lex,
One more long post like that and we'll have to revoke your membership ;)
Paul,
We're learning about Simple, Compound, and Continuously Compunded Interest in Math class now. Did you have to learn all of the formulas for these as well?
Like I=Prt, A=P(1+r)^t and A=Pe^r^t
(where P=principal, r=rate, and t=length of time)
Actually, those are pretty easy compared to the other ones we had to learn as well...Vertical Position is kind of a pain to remember...it's:
S=-16t^2+Vot+So
(where S=position in feet above the ground, t=time in seconds, Vo=initial velocity, and So=initial height)
Though if I drop a DVD I'm not going to care about it's rate of descent, I'm just going to want to do everything possible not to scratch that bad boy. I'm not going to pick it up and determine the correct formula to calculate its diameter. Though, I was proved wrong by you guys on the other the Pythagorean Theory ;)
Gotta run...quick meeting...

Joey, yeah I remember those, but I end up using excel formula's. I remember those postion type equations. Other fun ones are present value and future value, plus present value of future cash streams. Anyone remember the quadradic formula? I thought you already had your pronto by the pics of the pronto screens. Those look pretty cool. So instead of using your gear, you'll be playing with the remote? :)

Turns out the cpu fell out of the slot???!!This could happen, if the locking lever isn't down on a ZIF socket, or the retaining clip isn't in place on the Socket 7 or whatever type sockets.
Oh yes, the good ol' quadratic formula. Haven't used it in 15-odd years. Completely forgot about that one, and I can't remember it now. I used to know it, but I guess it is just another one of those things that everyone learns in school but 99% of us never use again.
On the other hand, I can still remember the names of every girl I ever had a crush on (provided I knew their names in the first place). Talk about useless information. Too bad the brain doesn't have a delete key--I could free up gigabytes of space. :)

It's one of the Celeron 400 slots. When they openned it up I took a peak inside and there were no clips to be found. Really weird. I figure when they replaced the MB last year they forgot to reinstall the clips.
Gee, isn't that a small list of girls named Heather? :B Seriously, I think I remember all those types of names as well. My memory delete is purely random. Forget things here, forget things there, Monica, huh, where that come from? Now what out of the 100 uniquely different, yet sequetially numbered password do I use with this user ID. That will be the ultimate killer app. A unified user id and password, unhackable, so i don't have to remember a bajillion different user ID's and passwords.

Sounds like the clip got lost somewhere. You have to keep your CPU securely seated in the socket, of course, especially when the PC is bouncing around in the back seat of a car! Otherwise you get no bootie bootie! :)
There were three Heathers, actually, but only two of them were infatuations, and I actually had completely forgotten about the second one until just a few months ago (talk about "random" access memory!). The first one was a major infatuation, the kind you never ever forget (and was my first ever, too). The second one was just a momentary blip on the radar screen. The third Heather was a blind date who ended up becoming my wife. :) Not all my crushes were Heathers though--there was a Dina, a Jennifer, a Michelle... in fact, the Dina one (the biggest in my entire life--will never forget this one either) started 14 years ago this week. :)
I guess I was never infatuated with the quadratic equation, otherwise I'd still remember it. :)

I am definitely sliding down the list of internet access users this week as I have yet to log on to anything on the internet. Very very busy after missing last Friday, may actually be getting caught up by noon tomorrow or so.

Good evening everybody!!
Very cold and windy here in Toon-Town..but ..no snow yet although a 40% chance for snow tomorrow.
Bing,,Good to hear your daughter received a job offer..Is this a part time job or fulltime?? Is she still in school??
Chris,,The 3108 works fine,,What the player needs is a firmware upgrade,,this means sending it away while the upgrade is performed by changing a chip inside. I am too lazy to bother and would sooner just get a new one since I would really like to get into progressive scan and the DV-37 looks to be awesome..I just need to buy something new..I think I am having withdrawl and a bad case of HT bugitis.
Gregg,,Did you really buy the Elite 91??,,If you did you must have held back a few discs..Titanic DTS is on the way from Todd.
Greg,(the other one)..I bougth Little Mermaid II when it came out. The kids really liked it and its one of those rare Disney titles that is actually in 5.1 surround. I just went on a huge DVD buying binge in the last couple of days including today..Picked up Jack Frost,,yes we are in the X-mas spirit,,plus James and the Giant Peach,,this title is in DTS,,Also today picked up The Nightmare Before X-mas,,This one also in DTS..A few days ago picked up MIB DTS...plus The Haunting DTS-ES. Thats probably more DVD's than what I have purchased in the last 2 or 3 months.
Have a Good Evening TTP's.

TIP for today...don't let J6P anywhere NEAR a soldering iron. Thomas is going to teach me to solder, I just haven't received that lesson yet, so I made a royal mess this morning on my battery charger for my plane. It only cost me about 10 bucks, which is the good news...the bad news is I have to solder on the connection. I pretty much trashed it, heh, so I have to go get another small connector and try again tomorrow.
I'm thinking of going home. I found out the other day that I had a lot of vacation time, so I may use some of that. I get my Pronto today anyhow, and there's NO reason for me to be at work...nothing's going on today.
Having a bad day anyhow.

Excerpt from "Soldering for Joey 6-Packs": First, let the iron get hot (obviously). Next, tin the tip of the iron with a small amount of solder. If the tip is dirty, clean it with a file or a sponge before tinning. Put together the items to be soldered so that they stay together by themselves (if soldering two wires, twist them together). Then heat the connection with the iron (not the solder itself). Put the solder up to the connection (not touching the solder to the iron directly) so that the heat of the connection causes the solder to melt onto the connection. Use just enough solder to cover the connection and make it secure, and keep the iron on long enough for it to "soak in" a bit. Then remove the iron and let the connection cool for a minute before touching it.
In short, the iron heats the connection, then the connection melts the solder. If you heat the solder with the iron, the solder will stick to the iron and not the connection.
Of course, it's better if someone (Thomas) can show you than for me to try to explain it here, but this gives you an idea of what to look for.
Idiot Warning: The tip of the soldering iron gets hot! Don't touch it, and don't let it touch anything while it's hot since it'll melt or burn just about anything it comes into contact with. A wire stand is useful for keeping the iron in one spot when you're letting it heat up or when you've put it down.

Kevin, that Soldering lesson brought back memmories of highschool shop. :) Did you ever make solder chips? You know where you heat up a bunch of solder to form a little molten blob and let it cool? Oh yeah that molten blob is hot so don't touch it.
I didn't make it back last night to the sick computer, will probably do it on Thursday night.

Oct 4, 2000 - 9:09 A.M. FT COLLINS, CO, US - DESTINATION SCAN
Or simply put...I called and it's on a truck driving around Fort Collins as we speak. I tried to beat them to it before they put it on the truck, I was going to drive to their office and pick it up, but they had already left. So now all I have to do is hit *REFRESH* every few minutes and wait for the status to go from "IN TRANSIT" to "DELIVERED", and then my butt is in the car and back up to Fort Collins. I'm going to stay at work until it's delivered I guess.
For those who want to know just how bad I want this Pronto, here's the latest Pronto update map. The red star is my house, the red line is the path it has to travel. All they have to do is go north for a block, make a left, go straight for a few miles, make another left, go south for a few miles, and then make a right on to my street. I probably won't see it until tonight though:

Good morning everybody.
Great movie watching session last night as we watched 'James and the Giant Peach'. A great movie for the whole family to see and the audio was spectacular and comparable to that of Bug's Life.
Next we watched 'Forest Gump' The audio on this also blew me away. The Nam War scene was identical to SPR in terms of sound quality...What an excellent movie.
Hope everybody has a great day.

Trevor,
I literally drove ALL over town last night trying to find James and the Giant Peach. I wanted that, the Black Cauldron, and Ichabod and Mr. Toad...but the ONLY one I could find was the Black Cauldron. I thought EVERY store would have these three Disney movies...guess I was wrong :( I gotta find the other two now...
How was the picture and sound quality on it?

Joey, the future of the internet, all couriers will have a GPS system on the delivery trucks. You will be able to watch the truck drive along the route to the drop off point. Your wait reminds me of last year during Xmas, I ordered a bunch of DVD's from Canshop. They were shipped Purolator from back east by ground, so that took like forever. But I figured they would arrive on the Thursday or Friday. So Thursday am, I'm heading out to catch the bus. As I'm walking accross the street, I see a Purolator van drive past my street and stop on the next block. So I'm like running back to my apt to see if he dropped anything off. Nothing, so I decide to hang around just incase he turns around and I'm like his second drop. Well after a few minutes I pretty much figured that my package wasn't on that truck. Anyway, that was the 23 of December and the dvd's finally arrived in the afternoon of the 24!
Trev, so you were watching the LD of Forest Gump, right? I don't think it's out on DVD. I've got the VHS and can't wait to get this title on DVD.

Joey, it's no use trying to get work done when there's a new toy being delivered to your house. Just give it up, take the rest of the day off, go home, play with the pronto emulator and your other toys until the Pronto arrives. It reminds me of the day my RPTV was delivered, the anticipation, and then having to go to work after the TV arrived.
You'll love the Pronto. It makes running the HT so much easier. I'm also programming a Pronto for a co-worker's HT, so I've been Prontoing all week. I just have to be careful not to get my Pronto and her Pronto mixed up, otherwise on Friday she might end up with the wrong Pronto. :)
Yep, it's Heather. Heck, I probably know more Heather trivia than the average guy. :) Apparently you've never seen Happy New Year, Charlie Brown, or you would have known that little tidbit. (Of course, being madly in love with one makes it easier to remember--I also have that special on LD). I'm going to have to rent the movie Heathers one of these days.

Having to work on a day when a HT component is being delivered to your house is a lot like waking up Christmas morning and seeing a ton of presents, then being informed that you are going to be able to open them until AFTER breakfast!

Dang it! If I see the words "In Transit" one more time...
"Yes, hi, UPS? This is Joey Millison. Can you please ask your driver to stop the truck, and then find out his location so I can go there to pick up my Pronto? Why are you laughing at me?"
