Long Post:

A) Trevor: I hope that your brother has a quick recovery. I'm sorry to hear that it happened. Hopefully they will take care of him at the hospital and everything will work out fine!

B) All: A GC as well? You mean the cards, money, and very kind emails that I received "weren't enough" in your opinion? ;) I really appreciate it, but you really didn't have to do that. The 80's Collection, and any other collections I do are gifts for you guys, something that we all have in common that's tangible. You guys have always helped me out by listening and just being good friends, it's the very least I can do. You guys have definitely shown me that you appreciate the 80's collection, big time :) I appreciate that, definitely! But no more gifts ;) It's my turn again, and I'll work on getting a better collection going, of higher quality, with everything I've received from everyone!

C) Canadians: How's it goin', eh? Does the J6P 80's Collection watch start today for you guys? I'm hoping everyone will get theirs within the next few days :)

D) All: Well, I had hoped to have pictures of my new HT toy, but it's hard to take pictures of. But I'll tell you, and then try to take pictures/movies of it tonight. It's a small home laser show. It's really cool, especially in my room where I can get it nearly pitch black. I have it pointed at the fan that rests above my HT curtains. It reacts to music as well, and is surprisingly cool, especially for the price! I can definitely see how it would be a critical part of a HT, especially if you listen to music! And I can't even imagine how cool it would look on a front projection screen. It makes some pretty intricate shapes and everything. It's not all that high budget, but it's a great toy. And let me tell you, kids LOVE it! My nephew was very into it, as way everyone else in my family when I went to go visit on Saturday night. At the end of the night everyone was watching it for a while after I shut off all the lights.
I hate when you're trying to do something and people keep bugging you, this post has now taken about an hour and a half to write because of interruptions. Granted, I'm at work, but nothing anyone has brought to me has been work related. It's just "hey, can you do this or that for me..." I'm going to stop volunteering to help people around here...
Big test tonight for Math. Going to do my homework today and then study directly after that, so it will still be fresh in my head when I get to class. I just hope that we have the test first thing instead of going over new stuff and THEN taking the test. My ability to retain learned info is only so big. Pretty nervious about this one, as it's one of three tests that make up the majority of our grade.
I'll write more later, I can't deal with everyone coming up and bugging me. I'm in a bad mood today, and though I'm trying to be polite to people who are trying to hide out in my cubicle away from everyone else, I'm finding it hard to be a "gracious host".

Howdy all from the right-hand coast. :)

Trevor--hope your brother has a smooth recovery. It's awful when these things happen--I assume that the accident wasn't his fault. Hopefully he'll get a nice settlement out of it all. Is he into Home Theater? If so, maybe he'll be getting some new toys out of it.

Joey--you know how they say "he who dies with the most toys wins?" You're definitely in the running there! Is Mandi buying all these things for you, or are you cheating on your debt reduction money diet? :)

Gregg--you know what I'm going to ask you!! :) I'm probably sounding like a broken record to you... Yes, it's that question again, with the word "amp" in it. :) I'm definitely placing my order with SVS this week, and since it'll probably take three weeks to get the sub, hopefully we'll be able to take care of the amp by then. Keep me posted. I can hardly wait to spin my Haunting DTS disc with that puppy hooked up! ;)

As for me, I've been a very negligent home theater guy lately--I'm going into my third week without watching a movie! The weekends lately have been hectic as all get out and there hasn't been any time to sit down and watch anything recently. I spent all of the weekend installing a new pool cover, the kind with the anchors in the ground that hold the cover on, so I don't have to deal with those pain-in-the-a$$ water tubes that leak and don't hold the cover on. I had to drill 24 holes in the concrete deck to install the anchors--what a pain that was! I went through 5 concrete drill bits and 2 drills (I borrowed my brother in law's hammer drill and halfway through it died--the cord had a nick and it gave out). So I had to run to Home Depot and sink more money into a new drill. So, $975 for the cover, $50 for bits, and $150 for a new drill later, I have a nice new pool cover that won't blow off the next time the wind blows. But every muscle in my body aches, when I try to walk I end up waddling like a duck. :)

Another story: my brother in law finally evicted the moron tenants out of the apartment building that we used to live in before we bought the house. We bought the house when we did because of these moron tenants and all the noise they made late at night above us. It's about time, and we were over there while he was working on fixing up the place for new tenants--they left the place in a total mess. Most of the walls need to be sheetrocked, the windows need replacing (they broke them), and they left behind all kinds of junk. Two items I found were interesting--there was a Sony STR-AV1070 box in the garbage--apparently they had the same ProLogic receiver I had before I upgraded to DD/DTS. They also left some videos and laserdiscs behind, so I made dibs on the LDs if they don't claim them.

Well, that's enough typing for now. See ya'lls later (talking like I'm from the south) :)

Kevin,
Mandi's doing the purchasing, she makes more than I do (god I hate that). So she has money to burn, and is still able to make double payments on her bills.

How much do you think you could get for an almost one year old Toshiba TW40X81, a Denon 2800, a Toshiba SD-5109, and 2 Infinity RS3s? Honestly, how much would all that go for used, and where could you get the most money for it?
Would Ebay be better or would somewhere like the HTF be a good place?
I'm thinking if I can pay off my debt with these items I can easily buy them back in a few months, but I'll buy what I really want instead of these things. How much do you think they'd go for?

Good afternoon all!!

Kevin, I got another email from Vince on Saturday. He said he had the amp and was going to UPS it to me on Monday. Stay tuned...

Kevin P

Joey, have you bought Mandi a ring yet? You know, one with a big, shiny, hunk of crystalline carbon mounted on it?? :)

Are you sure you want to sell your gear? How are you going to watch all those DVDs and LDs while you're paying off your debt/saving up for that Front Projection setup you really want?? I'd say keep the gear (except for the stuff you've replaced already, e.g. the Infinity speakers) and enjoy it until you can afford new stuff.

Oh, I shouldn't have stopped at Tweeter during my lunch break. As most of you probably already know, I have a gorgeous Mitsubishi 46805 16:9 RPTV in my family room. Well, I saw two things at Tweeter that made my jaw drop. Both of them were 46805s, but one of them was hooked up to a 5109 (gawd, progressive scan looks great!!), and the other was hooked up to a HDTV feed running a football game (yowsa, looked mighty nice, despite the fact that I hate football!) Suddenly, my 46805 at home running an interlaced DVD signal isn't going to look so great anymore... ;)

I think it's time to save up for that Pioneer Elite DV-37 (pending reviews), or a Toshiba 6200, after I get that subwoofer.

Kevin,
I'm sure I want to sell them now. I can watch DVDs on my old setup in the living room. It belongs to my roommate but he says I can use it whenever. This will A) pay off my debt and B) give me more room.
I need this to get my life started, big time. I hate to say it, but the way it stands now, if Mandi and I continue on this bad path and we break up I'm screwed finanacially. I can easily buy this stuff back, no prob there. But there's no sense in having it if I have all of this debt. I will buy it back again with my money, not credit of any kind :)

So anyone know how much I can get approximately? Anyone here want first dibs on something? The only thing I won't sell are my mains, my center, and my SonoSub (and the amp that I have with it, because it's not mine). Seriously, how much is any of this going for? I'm aksing here first because I trust you guys :)

Joey Millison
09-18-2000, 02:07 PM
Toshiba 5109 $300.00
Denon 2800 $400.00
TW40X81 $1,500.00
Dreamcast w/games $200.00
Infinity RS-3's $100.00

How do those prices look so far? That would give me $2,500, which is almost half of my entire debt. I can think of some more stuff too. Do those look fair though?
I need to souble check how much I owe completely first to see if this will even put a dent into the amount (if not it won't be worth it). Then I'll think about selling all of this crap off. I gotta find someone locally for the TV I think, since I doubt anyone will want to pay for shipping.

Andrew Pratt
09-18-2000, 02:22 PM
Man that post pains me joey. The prices for those items looks close to what I'd figure they were worth (not sure about the TV) If you are serious about selling this stuff one thing you can do is surf ebay for matching items and contact bidders with good feedback and let them know you have the same item for sale etc. You know they are interested in that item and you can pick who you contact based on their feedback. I've used this method a few times to sell stuff and it does work. Most people seem to wait until after the item closes then email you but it works and you don't have to pay ebay fees. I'd try the HT boards first though, let us fellow HT'ers get first crack at it then try ebay.

Andrew,
I'd definitely give HTers, and more specifically TTPers first crack. I don't think of it as just getting rid of gear, I think of it more as "selling pets", as you always make sure your pet is going to a good home, and not just anyone. I want to sell my gear to people who will appreciate it and take care of it :)

Joey Millison

After thinking about it further I'll probably have to sell off most of my DVDs as well...except for stuff like Spinal Tap Criterion Edition and other discs I can't replace...

Joey Millison

Bing,
Here's the whole current story (since we're all friends and everyone knows me here I can say this in a post rather than an email):

Mandi and I have been going out for well over a year now, and everything was going good until recently. I think we're starting to figure out that we're just two different people on a whole. She craves attention, and I cherish the time I get to spend doing things on my own. Just like last night, she called to tell me she missed me, since she left town to visit her parents for a few days. I told her I missed her too, but she said I didn't sound convicing. So I said "Well, I do miss you, but you're only going to be gone for one full day..." That started an hour long conversation between us, because she got bent out of shape by me saying that. We're arguing on a daily basis now as well. And it's the same damn argument every time. Neither one of us is right or wrong, we're just both starting to get unhappy. I really hate to admit it, but she gets home today from Wyoming, and I'm kind of bummed about it. I could have used some more time to myself. It just means I'm going to go home, and she's going to get upset that I'm just happy that she's back, and not thrilled, and we're going to talk about it for an entire hour before school, and then we're going to continue talking about it after school. And I have a test to study for and all.
I just don't have any energy left, and it's starting to show in many areas of my life. And a GOOD portion of this stems from the fact that I can't bear the fact that I'm in debt. It depresses me every day, because I've never been in debt before. Granted, it's not like I owe $20k or something, but I can't take being in debt. I went to a debt consolidation place (on my birthday no less), but they said that I don't owe enough, I make too much, and I don't have one late payment, so they can't help me. They're there to help people who are in trouble, and they said I was doing just fine. But I don't feel fine.
There's SO much stuff I want. I want a house, and I want the freedom to buy stuff with cash (not credit). I make enough money to save for a house, buy HT gear, and have a little left over. But the amount of money I pay per month is outrageous, due to HIGH interest rates. And after paying that I don't have ANY money to save or buy anything.
I'm trying the slow route, just paying more towards certain debts when I can, but it's REALLY affecting me being in debt. Mandi and I don't do jack sh*t because I can't stand having her pay for everything, it makes me feel like crap. But then she gets upset because we don't do anything. I pretty much hang out in my room constantly because I hate my current living situation. All of this could change if I got out of debt. I guess on a whole I focus on money more than most...I always have. When I was younger I'd go to Disneyland all the time, and my parents would give me like 20 bucks to spend. And I'd spend the entire day watching what I bought to eat, budgetting my money so that I could buy something at the end of the day, instead of just having fun.
I got a few credit cards, screwed with them, and now learned my lesson. I can't STAND using a credit card, and refuse to unless I have to.
But even though I've learned my lesson the lesson drags on, and on, and on, and on, and on...so now I need to get this debt down, regardless of what it takes. I couldn't find a co-signer, so now I'm going to dig into my HT stuff, though Mandi's going to be pissed about that I'm sure.
So the money thing affects Mandi and I more than I care to admit really, and if I don't change this situation soon I'm going to be girlfriendless and extremely unhappy.
There's my sob story...
Wow, didn't realize how personal it was, hope everyone's okay with that...

They say money can't buy you happiness, but I seriously think it would help. It would allow me to focus on other things if I had a lot of money, it would be a lot easier to cope with everything else...

And a GOOD portion of this stems from the fact that I can't bear the fact that I'm in debt.I think this is the thing you need to start with. Ok, so you're in debt. Many of us are. But look at the positive side--you're not in a LOT of debt!! I'm sure you're making more (LOTS more) than the minimum payments on the debts. Otherwise the credit councilors would have been able to help you. So, the first thing to do is not to get overwhelmed about the debt since you obviously have it well under control, since you're so ambitious about paying it off as fast as you can. Look at the people around you, the people you work with. The guy across from your cube with the new SUV, the gal who just went on a cruise, etc. I'll bet you that they're in a lot more debt than you are!!

Once you've convinced yourself that you're bigger than your debt, and that you have a some leeway in terms of your payments (i.e. you're paying more into the debt than you have to), you need to rethink your budget a bit. If you can, reduce your monthly debt payments by $100 a month. (Note, I don't know how much debt you have, or how much you're paying into it every month. If $100 is a bad example, take 10% of your payments instead). Sure, it'll take a bit longer to get them paid off, and it'll cost you a few more dollars in interest, but suddenly you have an extra $100 of play money every month. That's enough to take Mandi out to dinner a couple of times, and toss in an extra DVD or two for yourself.

You might want to try the consolidation loan thing again. As I recall you were declined before because you didn't have 2 years of credit history yet. If you have 2 years worth now, and you've gotten some raises since last time, you might have better luck this time. If you get the loan, close all the other accounts.

Paying off your debts is like putting money into a savings account or an investment that you can't withdraw for a period of time. It benefits you in the future--after the debt is paid off you'll be glad you did it. But you still need to budget for "now". Mandi wants to do more things with you, but you don't want to because you're broke. Slow down a bit on the debt repayment plan so you can enjoy life now. You won't be happy if you sell your HT gear, and Mandi won't be happy if you're always living in your own "personal poverty" because of your relatively small debt, and I know you'll be a miserable little Joey if Mandi ever up and leaves. :)

Hope I didn't overwhelm you with all that typing. :) Here's another way to think of it. What's more important to you: paying off your debts as quickly as you can, or keeping Mandi, someone who's done so much for you, happily humming along by your side? I'd choose Mandi over saving a couple bucks on interest any day. :)

I won't feel too bad about her willingness to pay for things. She's got the money, and she's willing to do it, so I say that's an ace up your sleeve! Is there any possibility that she could co-sign a loan for you? Or she could lend you the money and you pay her back? Just a thought...

Go Kevin Go (well said).

Joey, we have all been in debt at one time or another (to various degrees). Personally speaking, sellig off your HT stuff, at 50% of what you paid for it, may not be a great idea in the long term. You will still have some debt and now you will have no assets and no HT gear. What can you sell to reduce some of your debt and still keep your HT stuff?

Im considering selling my LD stuff. I have well over $5000 invested and know it will depreciate in the long run. How much do you have invested in DVDs, etc that you dont really need, but can rent. Selling them at $15 a pop can really add up.

Lots of luck!!

Gregg

PS: Kevin, I got the UPS number for my new amp!!! Lets dicuss payment stuff for my old one.

Paul Wu

Joey, being focussed on money is not bad. It will take a lot of dedication and focuss, but even if you can't get a consolidation loan, I think I've shown you that it can still be done. It will just take a little longer to be completely free of those debts. It will be a slow process, but you do still have a life to live.

I agree with Kevin, there are a lot of people in a LOT more debt than yourself. As long as you are making more than minimum payments, you will get yourself out of debt. And, if you are making just min payments, I'm coming down there and slapping you upside the head. ;)

Selling your gear is a tough call. But really how happy will you be in selling all your stuff. If you had to, I'd say you should sell the stuff that you bought and not the stuff Mandi bought for you. Also, I do not consider HT or any personal item an asset. They are toys, or doodads. Sure you can sell them down the road, but that's if you can find a buyer. What if you can't find a buyer for the price your asking? Then it really starts to hurt. I know this isn't a good parallel, but I had to finally sell my bike workstand. It was a professional workstand that I bought about 10 years ago. I had to move so didn't have the space anymore. I had it priced at $150 and ended up selling it for $90. That was painful. :( And of course now I have the room to store it again.

So I'm just saying. Take your time in paying off those debts, but make sure they are going to be paid off. Set up that payment schedule and keep to it. And once you're finished, that payment schedule will become your savings schedule.

Pl@, yeah that slow mo thing is right. Only noticed it when I was in a biking accident. Me against a car. I was going straight, oncoming car decided to take its sweet time turning left, I move over to the left most part of my lane, I didn't want to cross into the other lane as I had no idea what was there. So I'm trying to ride around the car, but the rear quarter panel is kind of in the way. So I hit it, I heard I made quite the dent, go flying about 5 feet off the ground and land on my side and on my head. Good thing I was wearing a helmet. First thing I do, grab my bike and drag myself onto the sidewalke and then collapse. A passer by commented that I was about 5 feet off the ground and when I landed my head bounced off the pavement. Medal count is meaningless. :)

Joey, on a lighter note, the J6P watch is starting today. Nothing yet, or it's come and someone has stolen it, if that's the case. Someone is getting in trouble!

Hey Joey, take it easy on yourself, certainly I understand your situation. Being in debt sucks, however credit yourself for having the kajones to do something about it. Selling something you dearly love is not such a bad decision, so long as you don't take a bath on selling it. It is tough to fully enjoy it if deep down inside your not happy due to exteranious circumstances.

I too have goals that I feel my HT'ing has curtailed ( :E Kill the blasphemious SOB !), but like the others have said, there will always be debt so enjoy the things you're in-debt for at least :B I don't fully know your situation, but by the sounds of it, it dosen't seem like you are that bad off if you owe less than 10K. Do what you know and feel you have to do..... Hope it works out to be the best for you!

About Mandi, I certainly know how you feel for I love my family dearly, but I too need time to myself, don't feel bad about that. What you should do though is tell Mandi exactly what you told us, that would at least let her in on why you feel the way you do about you, her and your finacial situation. She seems very nice and accomadating, if you are meant for each other, problems like these only bring you closer (that is only if you would like to be closer).

Sorry if I'm not much help, but it is tough not being in your shoes and I don't know if I would know how to act correctly even if I were in your shoes....

I do applaud you on your decisions, for ultimatly, we have to be happy with ourself's inside, and not what we own as possessions that seemingly make us happy. There will always be newer and better....

If I can, on a Happier note J6P 80's HITS CAME TODAY!!!!!

Looks awesome Joey! Cued up disk one , Men at Work "Who Can it Be Now?" Love it. Thanks Joey... How can I pay you back?

I gotta have supper now, but will be back.

Andrew, got the cords. Man they are stiff compared to the 6003's. Quick question, should I keep the mains and center cords the same length, 10 feet, even though all I need for the center is about 5 feet? I remember reading once you should keep your cords as short as possiable....

Well,,Thanks everybody for the concern, thoughts and prayers for my brother Trent. I really appreciate it. He will have surgery performed on him tonight. I don't really know the details of the surgery as I was just informed by my parents. It does sound pretty serious though as there was talk of him being in the Hospital(University) for a few weeks for recovery and therapy.

The 80's Collection has landed home..Thanks Joey!! I loaded up disc one and was impressed with the quality of some of the tunes..Well done!!
Sorry to hear that you are looking to sell off your equipment to pay off your debt..Hopefully as Gregg mentioned you can find another way to get around it..I know the credit card interest rates can be very high (28%),,maybe you could look at opening a Line of Credit with your bank..This is what I have, and only pay a 9.25% interest rate. All I do is simply transfer all debts or new transactions onto this and make one monthly payment on one low interest account. Having all debts consolidated to one account is a good feeling.

Will be back later.

Great news that the 80's collections arrived I hope they all made the trip okay. Bing in the real world it doesn't matter if one cable is longer then the other unless they are more then a couple of hundred feet different in lenght...that said all my front left-right cables are the same lenght even though I definately don't need 12 feet to reach the right speaker:) Why? Well I'd rather be safe and sure and this way I dont' have to worry about it. There may not be a measureable difference in the wire but I think my mind is more at ease knowing there is nothing to worry about. So how did you connect the banana's to the cable?

Woo hoo! The Braves beat the Mets 6-3. Greg Maddux threw 7 shutout innings before tiring and letting the bullpen almost give the game away. John Rocker was called in the 8th inning and he managed to save the game by not letting anymore runs cross the plate in his 1 2/3 innings of work. The Braves magic number is now 9 with 12 games to go. I'm so tired, just got back from the game about 70 minutes ago.

J6P, I think I'll go along with the rest of the consensus: sell what you absolutely can live without (meaning whatever DVDs that won't get re-played, or extra HT gear - but keep the essentials), and apply the proceeds to paying off your debt. Then cut back when you need to, but don't get too caught up about Mandi picking up the bill every once in a while.

Now if you think she's suffocating you, you do need to get things cleared up (she must have some other hobbies besides you, no?) :D

Not so long ago, I was in debt for about $2k, and at the time, it looked like $20k, but you just chip away with it, and become frugal (not fun-adverse). 3-4 years later, I saved enough for a good downpayment on a house, and paid cash for my car. And except the house, I owe nothing but my monthly balances, which get paid in full every month (for the most part). You can do it. Remember all the planning help you got on the HTF, stick to the plan. It's not a bad idea to Ebay superfluous stuff that doesn't add value to you life currently. But try to not give away the store just because you want to pay down your debt when you are in reality becoming upsidedown in your doodad sales (giving away your stuff while perceiving making a dent in your debt).

Andrew, I put them in straight...

First impressions? Not a night and day change from the 12 awg zip, but subtle and smoother. They don't seem as bright yet they still retain the detail. Very nice sound stage and more seamless in stereo mode as well as 5.1. Doing the direct swap of the cables back and forth, the IXOS's seem to make the sound not come from the speakers but rather in the general area.

I definitely will need to re-adjust my 5.1 setup with these new cords in place, I certainly noticed things sound different now, how or why, I do not know... Placebo? maybe, BUT I LIKE'EM! :B

I got some of that expandable sleeving and I was going to bundle the bi-amped 6006 & 6003 cords together, I may not now due to their super sexy looks 8) Thanks

Joey 80's collection is fantastic! I can't believe how many songs are at the higher bitrates... This is one hell of a collection my friend! I love the Maxheadroom cover.

Anybody know how I can change my links on my page to launch in a new window? I'm using composer and I just can't get it to happen. Is it one of those things that can only be done with raw HTML code and not composer?

Sorry to hear about the trouble Joey, but I think you have some great advice here on the last couple of pages. I agree with your attitude toward debt.. even a few hundred dollars makes me uneasy so I try and purchase stuff for cash and waiting a little bit longer makes me feel better.

So try and get the stuff you really don't need sold, I am sure you can get them back (and probably upgrade in the process :)) later. I personally just sold my receiver on ebay (DB-930) and got a nice price for it. I am sure all your items are in great condition so selling them shouldn't be a problem... chin up! :) Hope everything works out.

Joey - Debt sucks. I can speak from experience. Been in your shoes, and even worse. It too bothered the heck out of me, including the way I looked at my marriage, my personal esteem, everything. That was a few years ago, and I too decided I would do whatever it took to get out, and made the sacrifices necessary (such as selling my new Jeep Grand Cherokee and buying a used S10 pickup so I would have no car payments) and started applying more and more to the debt, instead of financing a Jeep.

Took a little over two years, but now we still own both cars free and clear, and we don't let our credit card (only one now) get over $500 at any time, so we never carry balances. Yeah, it took some sacrifices (remember me qutting smoking? money related!) and it was very hard at times, but when all the stuff was paid off, I started saving and like I told you, I was able to buy all my HT stuff at one time and use money from savings, not the credit cards.

One other thing I thought of, if you are in a 401K at work, check and see if you can borrow against it. You might be able to borrow what you need and in essence pay yourself back with a loan from your 401K. This might be how I send my boys to college one day!

So, hang in there, it can be beat, keep your chin up and if you ever need to talk about it, you got my number (or email me for it). Take care, and remember, you are bigger and better than the debt.

Don't borrow against your 401K!!!
Everything I have ever heard or read has said not to do it unless it is absolutely positively necessary!
That is your future...4 or 5k now doesn't seem too bad but you will be losing out on the magic of compound interest in the long run.

It looks like the Braves are on the way to locking up the division Patrick. If I ever went to a Braves game, I think I'd bring a big sign with me, "Our ego-maniac owner has more money than your ego-maniac owner!"

Anybody know how I can change my links on my page to launch in a new window?Just add TARGET="_new" to your link tag. Here's a rough example:

This should open your link in a new browser window.

Gregg (with 2 Gs)--I bet you can't wait for that 68# box to arrive at your doorstep. I'll email you in a bit to discuss arrangements to buy your CS800.

Greg (with 1 G)--your getting out of debt story is similar to mine. In my single (aka wild and free :) ) days I'd run up credit card debt until it got too high for comfort, and then I'd cut up the card and pay it off over about 6 months, then I'd get a new card and start over again. In 1994, I bought a new car, incurring a $17K car loan in the process, and then I met Heather (who is now my wife) and started dating, and so forth and so on, to the point where by 1996 I had over $12K in credit card debt, plus the car loan--ouch! Part of this debt was Heather's engagement ring, which I paid off in a year. But, as the balance on the jeweler card was going down, the Visa balance was going up, and up, and up, until mid 1996 when the limit was up to $9300 and the balance not far below (of course, everytime I got close to the limit the CC company would raise it again!). I think at that point my CC debt was more than my car loan! At that point, I put my foot down. I would not have any more credit cards! The things are evil! At this point, things started to turn around. I got a new job, paying about $8k more per year than my old crappy job, and I cut up the Visa and started paying down the balance. Then, during Thanksgiving weekend, we are over at Heather's mothers house for dinner, and her brother mentions that he has some extra cash lying around that he doesn't really want to just have lying around. So, we talk for a bit, and I decide to borrow the money, pay off my Visa with it, and pay him back over the following year (at a much lower rate of course).

Flash forward to April 1997. At this point the only debt I have is the Heather's brother's loan and the car loan (yes, the piece of crap I bought in 1994). I'm happily living life with no credit cards, thanks to this cool thing called a DEBIT card! Now I can still use plastic to buy things but it comes right out of my checking account. I'm going to get married in May, and I'm making honeymoon arrangements (Joey--you'll like the fact that we went to Walt Disney World for our honeymoon ;)). I find out that car rental companies won't accept debit cards when renting cards, for some stupid reason or another, so guess what... I have to get a credit card!! I didn't want the vicious debt cycle starting over again, so when I got the card I immediately had the limit reduced to $500 so I can always pay it off in full. To this day I still have this $500 limit card, which I use for things like ordering DVDs online and for the occasional dinner out. And I do pay it off in full every month.

Jump ahead to October 1997. An "incident" at the apartment results in my car (the one I bought in 1994 which I was still paying for!) getting severely damaged. After the car spends a month at the body shop (they kept finding more things that needed replacing), I decided it was best for me to get rid of the car. It was falling apart enough on its own without this happening to it, and I needed a reliable car, so I ended up trading it in and getting another car (this time a cheaper one, so I only had to finance $13K this time--I put a lot of money down that I had saved up). But I didn't want to get stuck with 4 more years of car payments (I had less than a year left on the prior car)--I wanted to become DEBT FREE!! So, I committed to paying the new car off in 2 years instead of 4. It took a lot of discipline, and eating a lot of Spaghetti-Os for dinner (J.K. :)) but I managed to do it. Not only that, I was able to save up a down payment and buy a house while I was making the double car payments. That was the hardest time--the first year in the house, with mortgage payments more than double our rent at the apartment, and double car payments, I was starving. The best part about kamikaze debt paying like this is when it's finished. Suddenly I have an extra $700 per month available after the car was paid off, which was how I was able to buy new speakers, a Pronto, a RPTV, a new PC (an unplanned purchase--the old one died) and soon a Subwoofer. Making debt payments higher than normal helped me learn to be frugal with everything else, so now I can save up more money every month. Now, I'm DEBT FREE except for a mortgage, which I don't consider as evil a debt since it's secured by property and the interest is tax deductible.

I've heard that borrowing against a 401K is a good thing, since you're paying yourself the interest when you pay the loan. I don't know how it works with compound interest though.

Oh well, that's enough typing for now.

Hello all. Ah the Triathlon was it, Bing? Thanks, I caught it a little way into the swim and wondered what it was...crazy stuff.

Well FINALLY got something in the mail today, disc 2 from Season 1 of Monty Python's Flying Circus. My supplier sent me two copies of disc 1 when I was buying up the first season, after never getting round to sending the second copy back I sold it on ebay and plain forgot to get disc 2 of the set, well got it now and is actually the least side splitting of the episodes to grace the season 1 set. I've yet to get the others...

Got our new puppy yesterday, little golden retriever she is, tiny little thing really, looks like a little ball of snow right now. Hehe.

Update,
Not sure how it's happened, but I had to use use my credit card a while back for something, and now instead of being $7,500 in debt I'm now at $9,500, which is extremely weird since I don't have a credit card with a $2,000 balance. So I have no idea what's going on, nor do I even really want to by this point. I sat there for a good 20 minutes just thinking of what I could do. Selling off my HT gear would basically put me to where I was in the beginning, which would be nothing short of frustrating being out of my gear and being at square one at the same time. Man, I can't even explain how I felt seeing that total pop up in my calculator. I just about threw it against the wall I was so upset, and that's SO unlike me.
Greg, "It too bothered the heck out of me, including the way I looked at my marriage, my personal esteem, everything." That's exactly what I'm going through. I kind of guage my self worth based on how much money I have sometimes, and being in the negative is as bad as it can get.

I think Mandi's going to help. Basically I'm not going to touch any of my paychecks, by choice. I'm going to get new DVDs, but ONLY using the gift certificates I get from Echo.Com for Amazon, so that I won't be using ANY cash or credit for them. I told her to take over my account, as I'm DONE with money on a whole until this is paid off. She's going to school for accounting so I'm sure they've gotten to the "Holy Shit! That dude's in MAJOR debt...?" chapter in their book. I'm going to give her my debt card and everything. Whatever happens happens, but it definitely can't get worse than I've made it. We'll see...I just can't do this anymore.

Kevin P

So I have no idea what's going on...Ok, first of all, did you add your numbers up correctly? I assume you added up the current balances on all your debts (principal balances on loans, current balances on credit cards) and came to the $9500. When you used your credit card a while back, was it for $2000, or something close to it? Try adding them up again, maybe you fat-fingered a key on the calculator. :)

If you don't mind, how about listing your current debt balances with interest rates and mark which one you used "recently" (and how much you put on it), maybe we can help hash out a payment plan. You can email me if you don't want to post it in the TTP. :)

Have you had credit for 2 years yet? If so, you might want to try a consolidation loan again, at least for the higher rate balances (those 20+% interest rates are ridiculous!)

Best of luck to you. At least you have a significant other who is understanding and willing to help you out.

Just another thought:

I checked my CC statement this month and found about $450 in fraudulent charges. 6 charges in total.

This ever happen to anyone else?

Paul Wu
09-19-2000, 12:25 PM
Joey, what Kevin said, do the math again. Also what Gregg said, check for fraud charges. Worst case, and don't get too hard on yourself, things like that happen. But it does seem strange as I know you've been saying you've been using cash/debit cards more often. You really need to find out why this happened. Is it because of interest charges and penalties because you missed a payment? Also, you should be checking you statement every month. Also this will give you an idea of where your money went. Again from what I can tell, you should have very little activity on your statements as you've basically cut your cards, right?

It's great that Mandi can chip in and help you out. I'll tell you I never came across that chapter in any of my accounting books. I don't know about the idea of giving up control of you accounts. You really have to watch your own finances, giving it to someone else is not the solution.

Have to relay my J6P moment. :) Well I pop in the collection and fire up my player. No sound? Check the speaker power, on, external volume knob, at about 9 o'clock, check the volume control, not muted, volume is up, cd volume is up. Why no music???? Okay, must be the program, switch to the windows cd player, then over to winamp. Nothing? :E Oh NO I got a defective disc! Start to shut down other programs for a reboot. As I was closing down the Volum applet, I noticed that the CD Mute was selected. DOH! Fire up my player and I get music. :)

Just got some not so great news. We've been on a search for a good candidate for a job openning that we have and basically we thought we had found the perfect candidate. But unfortunately she did not pass one of the standard tests. :( This search is going to take forever.

Hey Andrew, how much of a difference do you notice when you have effects pan across the room? And this one goes to Joey, same question, but think back to when you just had the killer centre, how big a difference was it? Although I can't afford a new center, I'd like to keep my eyes open if a deal pops up. What I'm concerned about is that if I do pull the trigger that there will be a big difference between a new center and different mains. I've got Engergy exl-16 mains with an exl-c center. I'm satisfied with the center, but having heard better, I want to change, but can't afford it right now.

Oh yeah, wish me luck as there was a crazy deal on Chapters last night for a Playstation 2 for cheap! So far my order hasn't been cancelled. Let's see if they will honor that price for some selected customers.

I saw that one Paul, I figured it was too good to be true and didn't jump on it. Hope they honor them (or some), but it would be a huge loss to chapters.

Pat: sure will :). It was a few weeks of should I, shouldn't I etc... and I thought heck why not :). Also at the price I sold the 930 for it should only cost me about 600ish out of pocket :).

On another note all the new releases are piling up and here I am with no receiver :) Wish that Denon would hurry up :)

Paul Wu

Yeah, they would take a major bath, but who knows, maybe they'll pull a few names out of a hat and honor that price. If it was me, I'd find out how much each person had spent previously at Chapters. Or they could just be b/o forever.

So why don't you just use your speakers in your TV? Won't that be the same? Just hit that 3D spatial simulated super suround mode. :B

I myself am going to pick this one up, should make a nice demo DVD :)

Jehan - at first I was a little bummed when I read X-Men would not be in DTS, but I enjoyed the movie so much at the theater, and I cannot wait to have it at home. Besides, SPR is the only DTS title that I own anyway! Can't wait till it is here!

Titan AE I think would be worth a purchase Paul, if anything the video looks like it's going to be excellent.

Jehan, I was embarrassed for Ron and Packy over at the HTF on that X-Men thread. There are some "software-heads" that can be real shit heads over DVD content. I'm just happy to get what I get. If I hear it sucks, I'll avoid the product, but for those who sit there in front of their PC monitors and just moan and groan about the lack of dts over the inclusion of extras when the justification was provided by a gracious company rep is simply annoying and sad.

They should have shut that thread down after about 10 posts with a message like "Okay, you heard it from the horse's mouth, now shut up and decide if you'll buy it or not, but let's not have anymore moaning and groaning."

BTW, I can't really think of much on the X-Men where dts would make that much of a difference over a well master DD 5.1 soundtrack. I thought Fight Club sounded phenomenal, and that one came from Fox as well. While if I'm offered the choice of dts and DD, I'll pick dts, but if it's only DD, I will not cry about the non-existence of a dts track. All of these DVD software "purists" are sadly deluding themselves, to get the best playback, I'm afraid you need to buy yourself a real theater with a kick butt projection and sound system. :D

I felt the same way about the xmen thread that a way to treat peter. That attitute is the main reason I tend not to visit the software are much its just to full to people whining about this and that. I like DTS as much as the next guy but if the choice is b/t a quality transfer or DTS I'd choose the transfer anyday...its not like DD sucks:)

Interesting that you talk about your centre since thats now the weakest link in my speaker array. I have the Energy RVS which would be perfect for you but I can't afford to upgrade to another maggie and I'm not happy with the dialog in phantom mode. I may try playing with the toe in of the mains and see if I can get away without a center if so I'll put it up for sale:)

Trevor I'm in serious discussions with two people over my hafler amp so its looking very good that I'll take my HK back. I have some ideas for you that I hope you'll be interested in.

Also got some people interested in my rears...if they go as well I'm planning on picking up a used set of maggies and move my current maggies to the rear:)

Hi guys, another update from the far east (or West for most of you!)

First, I hope your brother comes through fine Trev.

Second, good luck with your finances Joey...I can`t really offer any advice as I`m too young to know much about debt!

I did some good electronics shopping today, and managed to pick up a new portable MD player, the E900. Its meant to be the lightest and smallest in the world, and I must admit it is really cool....

Dan, congrats on your diet! :) You`ve gotta come round sometime soon, all these Americans have their awesome HTF meets, us "UK residents" ain`t got anything organized. I`ll be home for 6 days before moving to uni, so let`s organize something cool....I`m not sure I wanna bring the projector outside like Scooter does, cause knowing England, it`ll rain, but I`m sure we can sort something out...you up for it? It can be the first TTP meet, all the rest of you TTP members are invited too! :)

Not too much more to say, but since everyone is giving weather reports: in Tokyo it was very hot, clear skies, lots of sun.

Ah yea, there was one more thing...today I went to the Sony showrooms, which was pretty cool...they had all their best gear on display over about 5 different floors. I went in a large room set up with expensive SACD gear, and during the quiet passages you could easily hear the speakers hissing...kinda amused me that Sony would`t take the trouble to make sure they set up their equipment properly. They also had a new chair with built in tactile tranducers, however I wasn`t impressed....unless I switched the vibration level to almost 0, the whole chair would shake like mad whenever there was music playing during a movie!

As for PS2s, the family I`m staying with has one...the technology seems good, I watched part of a dvd on it, and the picture quality was pretty good, albeit using a composite connection. I`ve only been really playing one game, a Japanese baseball game, and the graphics are pretty impressive, but not quite up there with the PC gaming levels....

That`s all from me...
-Max

Good morning from Maine!!

I hope everybody had a great Tuesday evening!! The county fair is in town so we took the kids there for the evening. We had a blast. They had mini donkeys, sheep, and goats, all from 8"-2feet tall the kids loved them.

My wife came back from the dentist yesterday afternoon crying. Dental care in this area is really hard to come by and she has been calling around for more than 12 months to get an appointment. Only one dentist is taking any new patients. She had a check up yesterday with some xrays and was charged $150. (high but whatever). Then she was given an estimate and total she had a bad tooth that needed a root canal and a crown. Only $1880 for that!!. Ouch! We plan on getting a few estimates on that one, probably go to Halifax or Saint Johns and take advantage of the US vs Can. dollar. Anyway, no more HT gear for a while.

Gregg

Patrick Sun

My crown cost about $950-$1150, but insurance took care of half of that (thank goodness!). Not sure how much root canals are, but yep, dentists have people over a barrel when it comes to those procedures.

I might have related this story, but here goes again: when I was in the dentist seat, all prepped up (they already took an impression of the tooth to be partially crowned) and reclined, the dentist takes a look at my mouth, knowing that he's about to drill out parts of my back tooth, and says to me while masked, "You do understand that this will cost around $950-$1150, right" and I go "ahn huh" and nod my head. He deadens the that particular area in my mouth. Then the drilling commences. Fade to black. :D

Hope everyone else's day is off to a good start.

Jehan, I will not even look at the Denon link...okay, I lied, I peeked. But I'm staying on the sideline, no matter how many times you taunt me! Haha.

Sometimes I wonder why I stay on DVDTalk. One bozo posted a "Ron Epstein is such a suck-up" after the X-Men/dts/Peter Straddon fiasco. I asked that the moderator over there on DVDTalk close/delete that thread because I know that the HTF would not tolerate personal attacks on other forum owners on the HTF. But, I stay over there because you can really discuss some wild stuff over there (politics, gross/funny stuff, current events, religion, etc), and I can't get that around most any other forum.

I'll be doing some more work on the Sunosubs tonight I think. I think it'll be primer night, and maybe experience on the piano black finish for Sunosub III's top.

The whole HTF,Fox thing is ridiculous. What's the matter with people? So it's not DTS, whine, whine, my right as a comsumer...blah, blah blah.
Ron then comees on and asks no more pressing for something thats not going to happen, no soon than that the next post is back to why no DTS, blah , blah blah... whine, whine whine. Some people kids....

Ok, sorry , I didn't mean to drag that over here. But that's part of the reason I don't go over there as much any more.

Now This is where it's happening! Right here in the HTG and the TTP, amoungst friends. Now every body sing the CHEERS theme song.. "Makinging in the world today may sometimes seem alot......"

Jehan, nice looking unit, I wouldn't be able to wait either.

Gregg, Hearing your stories, sure makes me appreciate full benifits coverage from Corning and Christine's Sasktel. That and Medicare...

Oh, by the way, the Riders are on a 4 game winning streak. we are ahead of BC and have Play off berth, so far...Whoo-hoooo!

Max, good to hear from you down in JA-Pan and company. What are the chances of you picking up PS2's for a greatly reduced rate down there for us TTP'ers? :B

Hey Joey, you better start some power listening on Echo as they are changing their rewards structure on Sept 28. There should be an email going out, but in case you haven't it, check out this link to DVD Talk.

Pl@,
Still thinking about the whole thing, I brought all of my records for this month in today for debt and I'm looking it all over.

Paul,
That is a complete and total bummer! That was my plan for "buying" DVDs without having to use any cash. I was going to put myself on a $10 a week allowance and use that for shipping for DVDs, but now it looks like I won't even get that :(
Know of another place to get Amazon GC's at a rate even close to Echo? What a bummer, that was my little assurance that I'd get to purchase anything at all during my financial famine.

I guess there's a small portion of good news for today:
a) They need a team to do training today at work, and they "need a group that is well seasoned and has the process down perfectly" to set an example for other parts of the lab...and they chose the team that I head up.

I get the results for my first college test ever back today, the big math quiz. I'm going to call and leave a message to get the results back before class. If it's below a 95% I'm gonna be disappointed. I know of one that I missed already though...

At least you can grab a couple of GC's before they up the rates. It'll just be a waiting game before they send them. Hope you did well on that math test, man shooting for 95%, I was happy if I hit 75%, and as time went on, 65% was looking pretty good. :) I'll let you know if I come across any good deals.

Greetings all!

Not too much to say right now.. just busy at work as always. We had overseas consultants write a system for us, and I had to make some enhancements to it, it was so badly written I basically rewrote the modules I was supposed to "enhance". Then it goes to QA, and 9 out of 10 bugs they find are in parts of the system I didn't touch--they were bugs in the consultant's code, not mine. Such is the life of a programmer. :)

Gregg--I emailed you about the amp. I'll be ordering the SVS soon.

PLEASE do me a HUGE favor and send ALL positive thoughts my way! Or just wish me luck! I got this email:

--------------------------------------------------
Dear Joseph Millison,

The tables are now turned and banks are competing for your business!
LendingTree has searched our network of banks and lenders for you and the
following are competing for your credit card right now:

Net 1st MasterCard
First PREMIER Bank
--------------------------------------------------

I filled out an application for a loan and got shot down right away...but I filled out an application for a credit card with LOW introductory rates and a $10,000 limit, AND filled out all of the info for ALL of my balances to be transfered to it, and two banks actually responded. My other credit cards have been absolutely destroyed (cut up into literally shreds), so there won't be that temptation. But if I can transfer all of my balances to it, and kill the hell out of the interest I'm paying now, it would give me a chance to gasp for air and be able to start hacking on this. Man, I hope I get this, it would basically be the consolidation loan I've been trying to find...especially with the low rates for a year...I could easily pay it off within a year!

Paul Wu
09-20-2000, 04:41 PM
Hey, Joey, that's excellent news. I knew there must be some companies out there that are looking for your business. In fact most CC companies would consider you an excellent customer because of all your balances. So I'm sure you'll get one. Then like the message says, you can turn the tables on them. Wishing you lots of luck. And if the also means that you won't have to get rid of your stuff, even better.

J6P, just make sure you know if the low interest rate is just an introductory one that lasts for 6 months or so and then gets jacked up again, and whether they charge you 3% for transferring your balances to the new credit card (this is a major gotcha).

Best of luck to you Joey! You should have no trouble getting a credit card. They love people with lots of debt, they make lots of interest $$$ from such folks. :) Just make sure of these things:

1) The introductory rate is really for a year
2) There's no annual fee for the card
3) There's no fee for the initial balance transfers

If you plan to keep the card after you've paid it off (since it's a good idea to have one credit card for renting cars or for emergencies), also check:

1) Make sure there's a grace period for purchases (usually 25-30 days), meaning you don't get nailed for interest if you pay the balance off in full every month

2) See what the interest rate is after the introductory period expires. If it's over 16-18%, either don't get the card, or make sure you pay it off before the rate increases. In any case, cut up the card when the rate goes up, or always pay it off in full.

3) Some cards will raise your rate to some astronomical amount, like 22-25%, if you miss a payment. Make sure that this doesn't happen, or that it only happens after 2-3 consecutive missed payments (but then, you'll never miss a payment, right?) You don't want your rate hitting the roof because the postal service is unreliable. This is especially important during the introductory rate period.

3) You might have to call them on this, but find out how low you can reduce the limit to after you've paid off your debt. You won't need a $10K limit once you're paid up. Some cards will go as low as $500, but if it's a "Platinum" card you might have a minimum of $5K. Ask yourself if you trust yourself with a card with that much credit available on it. :) You could always cancel it later on and get a regular card with a low limit once your debts are paid off.

Once again, best of luck to you Joey, and don't sell your HT gear, then you would really be out of place on these forums! :D

KJP

P.S. Here's an example of a card to stay away from! My wife and I get credit card offers in the mail a lot. My offers are usually for platinum cards, but since my wife has never had a card (or any credit other than being a signer on our mortgage), her offers aren't as attractive. I always read them for the laugh factor, then I toss 'em. Anyway, she recently got an offer for a gold card with $3000 in credit. It looked nice, until I read the fine print. Annual Fee: $59 per year. Interest Rate: Something ridiculous, like 22-25%. Here's the clincher: Grace Period: None. Make a purchase on this card and you're nailed for interest from day one. What a rip off. Only someone who is really gullible, doesn't read the fine print, or has really bad credit and can't get anything else would get this card!!

Kevin,
Re: the limit being dropped lower than 10K

I was just talking to Mandi about this. I had said it would be a good idea during the payoff process to call each time I knocked $1,000 off my debt to get the card's limit decreased by $1,000. That way my limit is never more than $1,000 of what I owe total. And as you mentioned, wind up with a final limit of something like $300-500 only. Hopefully they'll go for that.

Andrew Pratt

Paul Wu
09-20-2000, 05:59 PM
Joey, that's a good idea, but I'd wait until you got one of those low int cards setup before you start talking about reducing the credit limit. Since they are banking on you having a balance and continually paying those nice high interest rates. It might be best not to tip your hand in that area first. Once you got your card, do whatever you want. :) And by that I don't mean go on a spending spree, but I know you won't.

Excellent points Kevin. I recal that some cards had 3% trasfer cost. So there's always a catch somewhere. Don't for get a monthly administration fee. In other words Joey, read that damn fine print. Keep in mind that the Banks want to make money off of you, either through interest or service charges. As long as you know what the rules are, you can use them to your advantage.

Andrew, between my wife and I we get about one of these offers a week. She get's most of them because she has a longer credit history and used to have balances. I'm one of those bad customers, pay off my balances all the time. :) I still read some of those offers, but as soon as I get to the annual fee I shred them. All my cards are no fee and I get bonues, either money back or money towards a new car.

KJP - good advice and info on cards.

Bing - "rotts of ruck" - thanks for the laugh you gave me!

Weird freakin' news:

Ok, I go to get some of my bills paid today after work. I drop one off here, one off there (I take my loans and drop them off at the loan office rather than mailing them in), and then I get to Wells Fargo (formerly Norwest Financial), where I got my very first loan. There's a girl there, about my age, who I've seen before. The receptionist was there as well, who I know pretty good. We usually wind up talking when I drop off my bill, extremely nice lady.
Anyhow, I go back to pay and she brings up my account and says "Hmmm..."
Hmmm? What the hell is Hmmm? My payment's not late, I've never had a late payment! What the hell?
She says, "It looks like your co-signer is still on your account, but you're in perfect standing for well over a year...do you want that removed?"
"YES!" I say, since even though it was nice of Mary Anne (someone I used to work with) to offer to co-sign, she held it over my head like there was no tomorrow, even though I was in perfect standing. She was one of those people who would do something nice for you, and then DEMAND you pay her back with favors or what-not. But now I'm free, and since the account is in perfect standing I actually helped her credit out too. Good riddance! But it turned out this new girl was the manager.
So we start talking...and we get on the subject of consolidation loans.
The other manager said "Sorry, don't think I can help you" when I asked her, but this girl took an hour of her time to talk with me. We talked about all sorts of ideas, and she got people on the phone and made things happen to the best of her power. What I have now is a SWEET consolidation loan set up. Unfortunately I can't do it without a co-signer, she couldn't bypass that. So I'm trying to call my parents, but all the freaking circuits are busy!
Anyhow, she lowered some things for me, went over all my debts with me, and arranged my loan there so that if I just pay 40 dollars over what I've been paying for the next year I'll be completely done with it. She gave me advice about credit cards, offered to give me a small one that would consolidate all of my credit cards only, but take the rate down. But told me if I didn't want to go that route how to pay each one off.
I guess the bottom line is even though she was trying to offer me stuff here and there through her loan place, she still took the time to help me and showed me alternate ways to do things based on her knowledge. That was cool. That was more of a person being kind enough to help another person rather than loan manager to client. She told me ways to do things that would help ME benefit, not her company.
I left my drivers license there, so I gotta go back, but I was invited to go back and find out more things we could do, if there was anything else she could do to get me some sort of consolidation arrangement.
It was a pleasant conversation, and she helped out a bunch. I've NEVER had a loan manager explain my current credit standing to me. it's usually just "yes" or "no". But she gave me exact reasons why she couldn't do this or that...and explained to me that the companies don't see me as being "urgent" when it comes to consolidation loans, because my amount of debt is actually average for my age group. She said it's pretty much expected that I should have that debt. We talked about how sick that was...that it could be that way in the first place, that everyone's EXPECTED to be in debt. That's sad.

Anyhow, if I can get ahold of my parents she set it up that even though they've co-signed for a bunch of stuff they'd still be elligible! It's all worked out...so I gotta call and talk to my mom, she usually says yes when my dad says no...or, since my dad always says no and he knows I ask for my mom first, maybe I can ask him, and he'll be happy that I finally asked him a question and will say yes because of that...trying to figure out your own parents is tricky business ;)

Here goes nothing...

DAMNIT! Tell me this isn't a typical Joey6P occurance: my parents, on tonight of all nights, are sick, and went to bed an hour early, which was before I even got out of school tonight. Which means they probably won't be in the best moods tomorrow, which means I'm screwed. I asked my sister to butter my mother up when she woke up in the morning, but I doubt it's going to help. And I need to contact the manager tomorrow after work...damn my luck, I'm so Charlie Brown that it isn't even funny...

Greetings all from the right-hand coast. :)

Gregg... 1000 watts per CHANNEL!!? Youch! :) You're going to need to pour concrete into your sonotube to keep it from flying apart! If that amp had any more power you'd have to plug it into a 220 volt outlet! :)

I'm not even going to be able to use all 400 watts/channel on the amp I'm buying from you without knocking pictures off the walls. The CS800 is stable down to 4 ohms, right? The SVS is single voice coil, 4 ohms.

Speaking of SVS, I just submitted my order for a 20-39CS. Order #103. If I had done it a bit sooner I could have been #100. Oh well. :)

Joey, hope all goes well with you. If your parents question co-signing another loan, just tell them how much you're paying in interest now and how much you'd be paying on the consolidation loan.

See ya... the subless (but not for much longer) KJP :)

GreggS, we just got hit with a deluge. It was totally scary driving to work today. It was dark and gloomy. I'd see lightning strike and hear the thunder not /12 second later. I felt the thunder through my gas/brake/clutch pedals. I was wondering how likely was it to get hit by lightning while sitting in your car. I live 4 miles from work, but it took me over an hour to get to work today. One of the roads had a broken railroad crossing (the gates were stuck in the down position), so I had to drive another 3 miles in congested traffic to finally get to work around 9:30 this morning. I don't know how people can stand driving in an hour-long rush hour. I'd have to go buy a CD player for the car and listen the J6P 80's collections all the time! :D

Good Morning!

I haven't had a chance to post lately but, WOW! This is a busy place. My local A&B Sound here called me up and said that my new Denon 5800 has come in. I guess I'll be doing some set up this weekend. I will let you guy's know if there is a big difference from the 57 to 58. The upgrade did cost me 1K and my 5700.

Kevin,

The 20-39's are incredible subs, and SVS is one of the best company's that I've had the pleasure to deal with.

Bill,

Yeah! It's snowing here in Edmonton this morning! Seem's very early for snow.

Trevor,

I hope everything goes well for your brother! My best to you and your family.

I just lost my father a couple of weeks ago. He was 62 years old. I've had to rely on friends and family to get me through a very tough time lately.

Joey, hey that sounds like good news to me. Hope you get that co-sign. I had an account manager like that once, she moved on and now I've got another one that's okay. But sometimes they can only go so far. I had dropped hints that I wanted better terms on my line of credit, but unfortunately the bank just doesn't offer what I was asking for, so I ended up getting my LOC elsewhere. And the funny thing is that I'm really using that LOC now, where as before, I never used it. I guess the bank just didn't want my money.
So how'd the test go?

GregS, man that's way too long with no rain.

Gregg, grunt, grunt, more power, grunt, grunt. :)

Kevin, those are nice looking subs, one day I hope to be able to buy one of those, or maybe even build my own. Though I'm not too handy.

Bing, SNOW? We got sun. :)

Andrew, Catchup work, the worst kind of work.

Pl@, rush-hour, everybody's in a rush, so add an hour to your trip. Saw some traffic story about a commuter train going from Tacoma to Seattle vs the driver. The train averages about 75mph while the car at times was crawling. Train beat the car, but of course you still need to get from the station to your work. But it just amazed me with the 5 lanes of traffic just crawling along.

Rick, you have to keep up or else several pages go by. :) Wow a 5800? didn't know they were available. I'm sure you're going to have a fun evening. You've got a nice setup.

Paul,
RE: Test (and english paper), BOTH professors didn't have time to grade either paper, so we have an extension on the paper for english, and we're not getting our math test back until Monday (I'm going to call and try to get my results early). BUT the math professor said she wasn't happy, as half the class failed the test. And it's a HUGE part of our grade. The little group I study with was still in class late last night, and she admitted to us that she thinks that everyone in our 3 person group did good, and that it was the rest of the class that did poorly. But I *think* she said I got a high C on it, in which case I'm going to be upset. I need an 'A' in the class, and I get perfect scores on my group assignments, writing assignments, and quizzes. It's just the test is such a major part of our grade. We'll see, going to call her today and see if I can get my grade from her...going to get my paper back tonight from English too (it was supposed to have been handed back on Tuesday), then I have one LAST chance to revise it before my final grade on it. I have my fingers crossed for it...

My mother's not home right now, and I forgot my father's card, so I don't have his work number...going to be a long day of "redialing!"

Joey Millison

Well, I called my parents house and my mothers still extremely sick today, so I decided against asking her. I got my father's phone number and called him at work and proposed it to him. He said he'd speak with my mother about it, which I guess is better than a "no". I have a feeling they'll say no anyhow. I hate being a middle child sometimes, I get the scraps from the rest of the children. They've already co-signed things for all of the other kids, I'm the last one left, and now it seems like they're hesitant to co-sign for me, even though I've got A+ credit. I thought the loan manager was the one you had to impress, in this case it's my parents. I'm thinking of writing out a plan for paying everything off, and Mandi volunteered to write up a "contract" saying if I defaulted on my loan (yeah right, like that's going to happen) that she'd take over the payments. God, I just need them to say yes and I'm FREE from all of this stress!

Morning :)

Gregg: The 3801 has 7 x 105W, DTS-ES (Discrete + Matrix) Decoding, DTS Neo:6 Decoding (can provide 6.1 surround sound from stereo sources - can't wait to try this out), 7.1 Ch Playback of conventional sources, and vanilla DD Decoding. It says it has Wide-Range play capability for SACD/DVDA (don't know how useful this will be, but its there). I think those are the major differences between it and the 3300, maybe Andrew or other 3300 owners can take a look at the specs and give a rundown on it.

I believe the 3801 retails for US $1200.

J6P, show some patience, take it slow, take it easy. Take a deep breath, exhale, and inhale again. It's not the end of the world if the consolidation loan doesn't come through (via the parents), just keep at the outstanding credit card balances and it'll be over soon enough. My plans for the 5800 is to use it as a pre/pro also, use the surround back channel amp section for the rear speakers. This did not work that well with the 5700 but, with the addition of two extra rear amp channels should be able to drive the seperate channels.

Rick, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Heather lost her father 3 years ago, and Pl@ described it perfectly--surreal. You have friends on the TTP to get you through it, and the new Denon will give your mind something more positive to dwell on. :)

Gregg, your check is in the mail. Literally, I got home from work before the mailman arrived at the house (yes, 5:30 mail deliveries are common around here) so I fired off the check and threw it in the mailbox before the mailman arrived.

Joey, you hang in there too. If you got a C on the math test, and you got one of the highest grades in the class, the instructor might end up scaling the grades and you'd wind up with an A. And best of luck with the consolidation loan. I got another platinum card offer in the mail, this one looked attractive: 0% introductory APR until July 2001, no annual fee, 20 day grace period, free balance transfers, credit line up to $50,000. Like all credit offers I receive, I shredded and threw it out. See if you can get into a credit card with a low introductory APR if you can't get the consolidation loan. Credit cards are easier to get than loans.

Signing off for tonight... see yas guys.. KJP

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got home tonight from school and the phone was ringing, so I threw down my bag and ran to get it (gracefully bashing my knee into a chair on the way) and it was my father. He sounded very serious so I was worried. Then again, unless my dad's around company he's usually very serious, especially when it comes to money.
But they're going to co-sign! He just said "I don't ever want to have to make a payment for you", which I assured him right away that if I could pay all of my monthly bills as they stand now without even a late payment, that the chances of my missing a quick $300 monthly payment is EXTREMELY slim. In other words, there's no way in hell!
So I'm going to get the paperwork tomorrow before he changes his mind!
Damn that makes me happy! At a KILLER interest rate too! And we're going to make $900 payments per month, so we should kill it pretty soon!
Can't wait! Financial Freedom STRAIGHT ahead!!!

Whoo hoo!

Hello everybody...TTP is still running fast..Seems like nobody can gum up the works!!

Rick,,Nice to se you back visiting the TTP..Really sorry to here about your father,,he was young too.

Good news on the 5800..I can see how it would benifit your set-up with the four rear speakers. That would leave with three channels free on your Cinepro..A couple for those SVS's subs right?

Hey Joey,,Glad your parents were able to co-sign your loan..This will make it much easier to manage your debts..Speaking of debts,,I just transfered $3700,which was left from my RPTV don't pay for a year plan, to my line of credit.

Man oh man, it's gonna rain hard today and tonight. And probably most of the weekend. That mean spraying my endcaps is out unless the wind blows the clouds away.

Trev, glad to hear your brother made it through surgery in good shape.

J6P, if you think your battle with debt is tough on you, just think of Trev's brother and the battle he's going through now. Health is the number one thing that you need to maintain and be happy you have it, everything else is secondary.

Hope everyone is going to have a decent weekend (even the snow-bound folks here).

I think I'll try to see "Almost Famous" if it's playing at a nearby theater this weekend.

Joey--congrats on getting the cosigner!! You said it was a $300 payment, and you're going to be paying $900 a month?? I don't know how much money you make a month, but make sure you have enough left over to treat Mandi right, save up for that house, and treat yourself to some new DVDs once in a while.

If you're getting a good interest rate, just take your time. If you have to, just pay $600 per month. You'll still get the loan paid off in a couple of years, and you'll have some money to save up for the house and HT goodies! :) Of course, when the loan IS paid off, put that $600-900 a month into a savings account.

At one point I was paying $725 a month on my car (an inexpensive Saturn), the actual payment was around $350, but I wanted it paid off by the fall of 1999. I managed to do it, though I often didn't have two pennies to rub together come payday. :)

Good morning everybody!!

Well I got the new amp hooked up and sure enough it had that nasty ground hum. Went to WalMart and bought a $.45 cheater plug and problem fixed. Next problem: fan noise, this sucker is LOUD. Even with my component cabinet closed it still can be heard, and Im sitting 18 feet away! I mentioned it to one of my hospital's biomed guys and he said to bring it in and they would install some "silent" fans. I love working at a hospital!!!

Kevin, I took the the CS 800 to the shipping department today so it will be packaged and shipped UPS today. Ill send you the tracking number when I get it. You should have it by Tuesday at the latest.

Hope everbody has a great day!! TGIF!

Morning All from TGWN... Snows all gone today, but you never know....

I got my MonoBlock yesterday as well, hooked it up to one of the stereo channels to try(seening as my sub is not yet built) Same nasty ground hum. I plugged it into a different wall outlet than my HT gear and it dissappered??? Isn't this opposite to what's suppose to happen?

Anbody?

Why do they run 3 prong ground plugs if all we get are PITA's from it.

Have a great day, TGIF

GreggL, can you find out which silent fans your buds are going to put in your new amp? I'd like to lower the fan noise too on my amp.

Bing, the 3-prong plugs are for UL ratings and for protecting all your gear, but they (the testers/designer) don't give a rat's butt about ground induced hum in our HT equipment. :(

Joey,
Sounds like the start of a very good thing, you'll find that some of the hard time's and money management skills will pay off for you in the long run. Hang in there!!!! I'll second Patrick on the health issue.

Trevor,

Glad to hear that your brother will be O.K.!!! I have the 5700 boxed up and will be trading it today. I will only be using the surround rear channels from the 5800, the Cinepro will be handling L/C/R and side L/R and both 20-39's from the 6th channel.

I also say "Let it Snow" since, I'm in the snowmobile business. :)

1000? Ha! We laugh at 1000! ;) Wait til we hit 10k!

Today's a good day. it's the first day of the rest of my life.
The weather is cloudy and cool (I love it), we have a new Chef in the cafeteria at work and he got my breakfeast perfect on the first try (slighty golden brown scrambled eggs with sausage, bacon, and black olives mixed in, topped with some white gravy sauce...mmmmmm), and no one has bugged me about anything at work yet. In fact, half of the people didn't come in today, so it's going to be NICE and quiet!

Pat, Ill get you the info on the fan. The biomed guy says it will be no bid deal. He will look for a similar fan size that meets the same electrical requirements. He also said a lot of the noise is probably related to worn out bearings / bushings in the current fan. ???

Joey, What you get breakfast at work? Now if you said you didn't have to pay for that or if it was subsidised, then I'll really hate you. ;) I like those kind of days, where it's nice and relaxing, no fires to put out. Thanks for the laugh, handsfree cell phone. :) If we want to hit 1000 posts by the end of the day, we better start posting. :)

I'm planning to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon this weekend. You can check out the trailer at http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/crouching_tiger_hidden_dragon/ We've got a Film Festival happening for the next 2 weeks. Haven't been for a long time so I'm going to see what's else is playing.

. He also said a lot of the noise is probably related to worn out bearings / bushings in the current fan. ???If the fan buzzes or rattles that could be the case. If it just makes the rushing wind sound, it's the airflow and RPMs that are doing it, in which case a reduced airflow fan would be in order (or slowing down the fan that's in there). As long as the amp doesn't overheat you'll be golden.

Speaking of fans, how noisy/quiet is the fan in the CS800?

Thanks for shipping it out so soon. You'll probably get the check about the same time I get the amp. You did insure the package, right? Of course, I still have about 3 weeks before I get the sub, but I'll be busy programming Prontos for some co-workers HTs in the meantime.

Joey, keep us posted on the loan! Hopefully with the co-signer there won't be any more snags and you can start paying off your debts without paying those outrageous interest rates (you are going to cancel those credit cards, right?) :)

See ya... KJP

Kevin, thanks for reminding me about the insurance, for some reason I forgot (and I also sent my laptop out today with out too). I ran down to shipping and had it added for both.

Talked again with Biomed, as long as they can do a good guess of cubic feet of air movement with the current fan there will be no problem replacing it.

The CS 800 is not even close to having the same noise. Absolutely quiet when in my cabinet so there will be some noise if not enclosed. The CS 800 has 2 fan speed settings which help, I kept in on the slow speed and the amp would never even warm up.

Hope everybody has a great weekend.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone,,I just thought it was funny.

The man realizes that he can't find the rake. He yells up to his wife, "Where is the rake?"

She can't hear him and shouts back, "What?

The man first points to his eye, then points to his knee and finally makes a raking motion.

The wife is not sure and says, "What?"

The man repeats his gestures. The wife replies that she understands and signals back. She first points to her eye, next she points to her left breast, then she points to her butt, and finally to her crotch.

Well, there is no way in hell the man can even come close on that one. Exasperated, he goes upstairs and asks her "What in the hell was that?"

She replies, "EYE- LEFT TIT - BEHIND - THE BUSH!"

Have a Good Weekend everybody.

The Denon 5800's remote has a lot of potential unfortunatly the early reports are that there isn't any software available yet to customize it like the pronto and that the joystick won't be able to control anything other then menus on remote not as a true joystick. Still if the right software is made available it should be a good remote. Yamaha is also cloning the pronto and will be released with some upcoming receivers I believe....if you can't beat them slap your name on it and call it your own....

Good Morning America,Canada and Overseas.

Hope everybody has a great weekend.

Today's activities include attending the Wedding of my younger brother Devin. Trent, the one in the hospital unfortunately will not be able to attend and was actually to be to in the wedding party. As you can see everything happened at a bad time. Although the operation seems to have been successful,he has now developed the Flu which is making it even more uncomfortable for him.

Joey,,really glad that you should be able to keep your gear. Thats the reason we were all able to get together in the first place, the love of the HT hobby,,and you have an excellent set-up that needs to stay with you my little buddy.
Was listening to the 80's collection again last night..This has to be the best collection of music I have ever owned..I can't remember the last time I was able to put in a CD and just let it play from start to finish. Now I have 13 of them.:)Thanks a Million!!

Doesn't look like we will have snow today as the Sun is out in full force..It is cold though.

Reasons that I like the Winter:
-Don't have to cut the grass.
-Don't have to water the grass.
-Don't have to wash the vehicles every other day.
-Hockey fan.
-Enjoy time at the Ice rink.
-Darker early, which means more movie watching, since I never watch Movies until late in the evening.
-Just like the feeling of being together with the family inside while it is cold outside,,fireplace to come soon hopefully.
-I usually decorate my house with Christmas lights like the Griswalls do in the movie 'Christmas Vacation'.
-There's more...I just forward to the Fall..

Well I was able to get T2 the other night..haven't watched it yet.but it should be good. I rented Mission To Mars last night but it would not load into my DVD player..I get the message of 'Please check Disc',,same as with ID4,,which requires a frimware upgrade..I wonder if I need this also to watch M to M.

Andrew,,If you sold the Hafler just for the reason of aquiring the H/K..I feel very obligated to sell it back to you..let me know!.

Have a really good day everybody.

Morning... wow another page goes by.. Paul do you have a constant watch on the post count or something? :)

I checked out Almost Famous yesterday as well as the rescreening of the Exorcist.. Well for the later, it was good to see it on the big screen but I felt most (if not all) of the added footage should have remained cut.. didn't seem to add anything at all. The 'spider walk' sequence was good though. Almost Famous was great, pretty well made and the performances were good. 'Cool' is how I would sum it up :)

Andrew, Thanks for the affirmation :)..LOL
Checked out those Rotel amps today, very nice, expensive though, ~$1200 for the 985 MkII, 100Wx5.

Well, we went on the train ride from DFW airport to downtown Dallas and back. Pretty neat, as I had not been on a train in years, and my boys never had been. It was also free as the mass transit systems between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth finally got together and made a train that will eventually link the two cities. It doesn't go all the way to Fort Worth yet but it will next year. I guess the free month is to get more people thinking they could actually utilize mass transit, and it seemed to work as it was packed. But everyone seemed to have a great time!

Thinking of watching Erin Brockovich tonight, the wife has been looking forward to it.

So much for my theory of Paul writing a routine :)

Jehan, at least you are ready for that fantastic image! Right now you've got to make way for that lovely 3801.

Lex, the Lexmath comment came from a post in another section where Andrew was giving you grief for port diameters... Forgive, but never forget so you'll know when to pounce :) Lex is a good prefix, like in LexiTron, LexiDome, LexiMax, LexRoadster, Lexicon...

Man, you guys should see my setup right now... You would laugh your asses off. You all know I sold my energy sub, and as such I'm subless right now.
I have all the parts to build my sub, but my brother in law is out hunting elk, and I'm using his wood shop to build my sub. I could just go ahead and start cutting wood, but it's his shop and I respect that. So, Seeing as I have this monoblock amp and Driver sitting around, I decided to test it out hooked up to my system with out an enclosure. Not much comes out of it with out a box and as such, it just won't do.

I went to my local HiFI shop (that's were I spent the day looking and drooling) to see if they had a car sub enclosure I could borrow. They did not have one that I could easily get home in the bimmer, but they did have some ridiculously outrageous enclosures. How about a box that holds 16 - 12" sub drivers? :E Or one that is designed for 4 - 15" drivers in an Isobaric loading... Insane, those car guys really go all out. So, back to my story, here I am, with no enclosure and wanting to test, play with my new toys... Okay are you ready for this... :oh: I found a nice sturdy cardboard box, yes, that's right, a nice sturdy cardboard box that I cut a 10.5" hole into and plopped the Kappa perfect into it. I was Subbing in no time flat! Now the box is not quite as sturdy once I started playing music and it leaks like hell with lots of resonances.. but heyyyy, I got sub! It's hilarious!! ROLFLMAO!!

Don't worry though, I will be careful... And i do have lots of duct tape to re-inforce the cardboard box :oh:

That's my weekend, I was suppose to go to my SO's farm, but I had to help get my sister's PC back up. Besides, now I have an empty house and my Cardboard box Sub. I have been rocking the Casba all evening, It actual sounds ok!

OK, actually it sounds like crap, but it funny as hell and it is giving me that lower end bass. Right now bass is bass...

Bing - that is a great story! I can't believe you put it in a cardboard box! :D But I guess anything is better than nothing at all.

Watched Man on the Moon instead of Erin Brockovich. I enjoyed it, actually had some pretty good laughs in it. Nothing wrong with Courtney Love either!

Well I played around with lifting my maggies by putting them on box's so that they are now 10" taller then before. This has helpped a lot by moving the center image way up so that its more like the singer is standing up taller then before. I'm definatly now going to build proper stands for these.

For our Sat night movie we watched Random Hearts with Harrison Ford (a house hold favorite) well its a rather slow movie without much drama but the story is decent and well acted so it was okay. The thing I liked about it though was there were quite a few scenes with a great score so I just sat and listened to the wonderful sax pieces being played when they were in the bars etc...man I love these maggies.

Bing you're plain nuts just plain nuts:) Can't say I wouldn't do the same though LOL BTW congrats on the Ebay bidding and I guess I'll order one directly from him.

Good Morning Everybody,,

I was up quite late last night, so I am still extremely tired and exausted.Had a great time and have to attend the gift opening this afternoon.

Patrick,,I beleive TerryC has a thread at HTF in the hardware section indicating some of the heavy bass scenes in the Haunting including some frequency charts.

Good idea with the sub Bing.Looking forward to the pics.

Greg, five minutes of rain,,I guess its a start.:)

I stopped by Audio Warehouse today before the gift opening,,decided to get a DVD player for a wedding gift..Anyways,,I was totally impressed with the high end gear that they now carry. They had a display of HDTV through a $16,000 plasma TV. The HD image was nice but the Plasma TV did it now justice,,the color form this TV seemed to have a very washed out look to it. Other gear that caught my eye was the Pioneer DV-37 DVD player,,what a beautiful piece of gear this was for $1299 CDN.If this player gets good reveiws and all of Pioneers previous problems have been fixed then this may be my next DVD player since I am in need of Progressive scan. They also had the Parasound AVR2500 pre/pro for a measly $5896 and the 5 channel X 220 WAtt amp for the low price of only $4299..If you total the whole set-up without speakers, your looking at $27493 for this new gear. Well Bing,,Christmas is coming soon. HoHoHo!!

Hi guys, I'm writing this from home, yes, I took the day off from work. Lucky Me. :) Hey, I had to work last night until 9:30 so I deserve it. :)

We watched Mission To Mars last Saturday--that movie was better than I expected it to be. This is the first DD EX movie I've watched with the rear center speaker hooked up--it was impressive.

Anyhow, I had a brief J6P moment this morning. When watching Mission To Mars the other night I noticed that the left side of my 16:9 RPTV needs to be converged, so I am planning to do that this morning while my wife is out. I put the TV on to give it its requisite 30 minute warm up, and lo and behold, the Olympics are on--the women's volleyball. I watch it for a few minutes, and think, those ladies are heavy! After a few minutes, it occurs to me... DOH! I have the TV in widescreen (Full/Expand) mode, no wonder they look like they're 40 pounds overweight!! :) I switch to zoom mode, and bingo! They look better now. :)

Oh well, the set's been on 25 minutes now, I'll watch the ladies for 5 minutes and then do the convergence.

See ya... KJP

Andrew, I keep my sub level at -5dB, and I still was listening in fear. The main volume level was down low too (I usually have the main volume around 4 on the dial, but with The Haunting, it was around 2.5 on a 10 scale). Now that I know where most of the loud low stuff, I'll do some SPL testing later this week.

The bass from this flic turned my SVS Subs into hair dryer's from the top ports. I really like the new 5800's surround ex/es mode. But, can't get used to the remote so, it will be going into storage for the next trade-in program.

The wife's out again so I thought I'd toss in The Haunting DTS and play a couple of scenes just to get a subless reference. They sounded great, though I had a feeling I was missing something, that bottom octave that I just won't hear (or FEEL) until the SVS arrives. :)

My Platinum Audio speakers go down into the mid-30Hz range before they roll off. They actually cover most movies' LFE quite well (The Matrix's deep bass scenes are actually in the 40-50 Hz range), but The Haunting loses a lot in the translation.

I should be getting my SVS and be able to experience The Haunting in time for the Halloween season (my favorite holiday). :)

Good afternoon from the right coast. I tried posting this morning but couldn't access the site. Weather here has been very typical - low in the mid-70s, high in the low-90s, scattered thundershowers every day.

Most recent rentals:
Reindeer Games - better than expected and definitely worth renting (thanks to Charlize Theron!), but with a little work on the plot it could have been much better
Being John Malkovitch - I waited a long time to rent this because none of my friends gave it a positive review. Although it was definitely VERY offbeat, I liked it. I can see how it could easily become a countercult classic.

I was very pleased with the speaker cables I built, so I'm considering adding them to my Kustom Kables page. My concern is the connectors. At the price I would charge, I can't afford to have connectors that take forever to install. I've ordered some samples of another brand so we'll see what happens.

Kevin,
I should have warned you about the J6P-syndrome being ULTRA contageous! I think Bing caught it a little while back and, well, as you know I've been diagnosed with a severe case of it, and it doesn't look like there's a cure ;)

I get the results of my math test tonight, and I'm afraid to see them since like half the class got an 'F' on it.
Oh, and in ONE HOUR my father is meeting me at my house to go sign the loan, and I called in with all of my payoff balances. In other words, the next time I post tonight I will have ONE single loan, not 6 of them, with good interest too! Can't wait!

I'll tell you more about my weekend when I get back hopefully...

Gotta run, have a quiz to study for as well!

Gregg, I agree with Andrew. Now may be the best time to sell your LD stuff as there's still quite a bit of demand for those unreleased dvd titles that are out on LD. Plus LD still has a nice snob factor. Eventually all those LD titles will come to DVD, but who knows when. Oh, do you really need two LD players? You've got quite the collection. I know personally, I'd keep a player and some select titles that are my favourite not available on DVD or those that really showcased what LD could do.

Joey, congrats on getting the final dough to payoff all those balances. Now you can start going gonzo on that one loan payment. Have to say I really love the collection. Now I wish I had a portable cd player.

Well I missed my movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, this weekend. All the tickets were sold out in advance. :( But I hear it'll be out in theaters in Dec. I spent most of my weekend in bed on Sat, recovering from whatever I had on Friday. On Sun I watched the F1 race at Indy.
