Picked up a new CD Player today, an Aiwa XC-37M 5 disc carousel. Pretty neat! Got it at BB along with an optical cable for a total of $150 or so. Sucked when I found out the other night my Tosh DVD player would not play the CDR 80's collection, but now that problem is cured, and I have a nice CD player as well. Not a really nice one that holds 150 CD's, but nice enough for me since it sends the signal via the optical cable.

J6P - the 80's collection is great, as I spent several hours going back over discs 1 & 2 that I had previously listened to only at work on my Harmon/Kardon PC speakers (which are nice PC speakers!) but man it sounds great played through the Denon!! My wife was also impressed, which helps out when you bring in yet another box that is HT related!

The Amazon thing sucks.. they cancelled (customer approve price actually on the higher prices) all my orders except the Apes disc :(
Anyone else get lucky on these?

trevor what the hell were you doing up at 3am? Fishin' was awful slow, we only managed to get one cat all day and it rained in the morning. Most of the other boats all left as no one was catching anything:( Great news on the contest wining:) This is the second contest like this I've won in the last couple on months, since I won a $25 GC for DVD Express a little while ago. Hmm guess I'm going to have two copies of MiB DTS. I'll "return" one to wallmart of something and exchange it for T2 or one of the other must have discs I've yet to get. I can hook you up with the Pronto and charging base for $300 flat if you like, brand spanking new, through a group purchase (can I say that here? heh). Lemme know if you're interested and I'll give you the vendor info for it! :)

Morning all from the GW North. Well I may have found the amp for my sub. A 300W M1 monoblock made by Soundstream. It's samll enough I can place it behind the rack or sub on the floor :B

Hope everyone is having a good weekend... I have to change the oil in my car today and various other things.

Andrew, sorry to hear fiss'in was slow, only a cat you say...are they good eating?

Jehan, I have to get one of those items that will display the T2 case. I would rather have it display than stored with the disc as it may get damaged in the constant shuffle.

Gregg IMO no i wouldn't buy that one. There are some warrenty questions surrounding the silver imported units so I'd stick to a regular pronto. also the charging base isn't needed so you're paying for something you don't need. Joey how's the waiting list going for the GP? Last I heard it was a long delay has that changed?

Cats can taste good if done right...unfortunatly these are out of the Red River so I won't eat them...

I think it would be cool to have an awesome remote that controls all my HT stuff, and one that is backlit!

Does anyone know what was in the case in Ronin? Did I fall asleep and miss something last night, or does it never say exactly? It was kind of late when I watched it. :Z

It was the same thing that was in the trunk in Repo Man, and in Pulp Fiction. :D

I had to totally strip away the paint job on my top endcap on Sunosub II tonight. Ack! I had some weird clear coat problem come up, and my fix made things worse, so I am back to ground zero on the paint job. But I think this is a blessing in disguise because I will be able to paint the top endcap as the last thing to do once I get my Tempest driver and install it, and attach/caulk the bottom endcap in place, and do some touch up work (this will mean I have the sub upsidedown on the top endcap), so now I won't have to worry about screwing up the paint job on the top endcap when I finish up the bottom endcap.

WATCH OUT FOR THE DUCKS.

Jake, Johnny, and Billy Bob went to the rodeo. Unfortunately, a big bull jumped the fence into the spectators and they were trampled to death.

Being good God-fearing men, they ascended to Heaven where they were met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter.

He said, "Welcome to Heaven, gentlemen. I'm sure you'll be quite comfortable here, but I must warn you that we do have our rules in Heaven, If you break them, you'll be punished. One rule is, never step on a duck. If you step on a duck, the duck quacks, then they all quack, and it just goes on and on."

That sounded simple enough. They passed through the Pearly Gates and were surprised to find there were ducks everywhere! In no time at all, Jake stepped on one. The duck quacked, then they all quacked, they made a terrible racket and it just went on and on. Pretty soon along came St. Peter with a terribly homely woman in tow. "I warned you that if you broke the duck rule you'd be punished." He chained the homely woman to Jake and
said, "You will be together forever," and walked away.

Sometime later, despite his best efforts, Johnny accidentally stepped on a duck. The duck quacked, then they all quacked and made a terrible commotion that just went on and on. Sure enough, along came St. Peter with an even homelier woman. "I warned you that if you broke the duck rule you'd be punished." With that, he chained the woman to Johnny and said,"The two of you will be together for all eternity," and walked away.

Well, Billy Bob was very careful not to step on a duck. One day St. Peter came along with a drop dead gorgeous blonde. He chained her to Billy Bob and said, "You will be together now and forever more," and walked away.

Billy Bob exclaimed,"Wow, I wonder what I did to deserve this?"

"I don't know about you," said the beautiful woman, -- "But I stepped on a duck..."

Good night all! ;)

Goodmorning everyone from the GW North.

Good to hear you had a nice weekend Gregg.

So, I'm changing the oil in my car, I place the catch pan below, remove the plug and let her drain. Mean while i'm doing other things and as time goes by, I realize I fogot to chech the drainage. Doough! What a mess, seems I did nothave the catch pan at optimal positioning. Big capital L on my forehead.

So I bought a sub amp on the wked, a Soundstream 300W monoblock, slowly piecing it together.

Have a great day all!

If you liked those pics wait till you see the new ones. I'm going to include some hi rez ones in the background for those with cable modems etc....they'll also have pics of the new Maggies. Speaking of Maggie...I really like these speakers though they are definatly dipoles and as such its interesting to walk side them and enter a "dead spot"...its not really a dead spot but the high notes really drop off. The sweet spot though is far wider then the old C-2's were and its much cleaner and revealing.

Paul,
My email's crapping out on me...I emailed you last week to let you know that I sent your package, but it got bounced back. So I figured I'd post here. You can expect to see it soon! :)

Trevor,
No sign of the other package, and I've been leaving work early every day to try to intercept it, so I'm not sure :) Maybe today!

Andrew,
The new page is lookin' spiffy! I like it! I'll email you if I can get my email to work somehow, it works, then it doesn't, then it does, etc...

Bing,
Be careful, J6P Syndrome will sneak up on you, but once it attacks you're done for...expect many years of embarassment in public places, and a bunch of damanged speakers ;) I'll let you know if I ever find a cure... ;)

Mandi got a new "addition" for the HT, and a welcome one at that. It's something I've wanted for a long time, but don't have the money for. I'll post some pics :) My room is now a small patch of carpet surrounded by a ton of expensive crap ;)

Well, the simple answer is work. The more complicated answer is a hellava lot of work. :)

When you mentioned that you sent my package, I ran upstairs thinking I might actually have it, no such luck.

I still have to come up with a snappy tag line.

Speaking of lines, we got some pictures back from our staff fishing trip. There's a pretty good one of me reeling in a sturgen. I'll see if I can get it scanned and posted somewhere.

Was up late last night trying to get some work done, wasn't a great success. I just can't pull those all nighters like I used to.

I also spun TPM laserdisc yesterday like Gregg, but er, I dont have any children of my own to screen it to, so it was just me and the dog. :)

Still shedding weight off me like there's no tomorrow. Just eating properly now and have said a fond farewell to 12lbs over the past four weeks. I have to agree with Paul, today was nothing but work and then more work, followed by a little more work! Man, it absolutely sucks when I cannot even check in once to the TTP!

Good news, Dan! I need to shed a few (more than a few) pounds myself. When I quit running 2 miles a day a few years back, and then quit smoking (almost one year now Joey!), it hit me pretty quick. I need to get back into walking in the AM, but I already leave for work at 0600, so its hard to get up much earlier! And I truly am a night owl, do not like going to bed early. :(

Anybody catch the Emmys last night? Still haven't seen the winners list yet...

Man, work was a pain today, really tough to check in as much as I wanted.

DanB, congrats! Slow and steady wins the race, so just keep doing what you're doing (and don't get too discouraged if you hit a weight-loss plateau (just get in some exercise, and you will get your metabolism jump started).

I also need to shed some pounds. It's cooler now, so I have no excuse not to get out and get some exercise. I just can't stand exercising in the heat of the summer, it's just too much for me nowadays, it totally wears me out.

My Sunosub II construction has just about ended for now until I get the Tempest driver (that is, unless I decide to create Sunosub III, a 5-6 ft^3 enclosure - maybe sealed for simplicitiy). :D Maybe I'll use the Shiva II driver for Sunosub III. I will go the table top route if I go for this next sub.

Gregg--when do you think you'll be getting your new amp? I get paid in 8 days (this getting paid only once a month stinks!) and I'll be ordering my SVS around then. Once I have the SVS and the amp, I'll be taking the shrink wrap off my copy of The Haunting DTS.. Buwahahaha! :)

Joey--don't keep us in the dark! I was looking all over your website last night, and I still don't know what new goody Mandi bought you!! Tell us, please tell us!! It wasn't a Pronto, was it?? :D

My HT buddy at work is on a cruise this week and I was surprised to get an email from him! Apparently cruise ships have Internet access now. I asked him if he found the movie theater yet and he replied, no movie theater, but they do pipe movies into your cabin (on a 13" TV). Pan and scan, no doubt. Jehan, the DVD deals are few and far far between now. :( I went over to CompUSA yesterday to check out their $14.95 DVDs (they are getting out of the DVD biz), and I couldn't find more than one that I wanted for $15. But I read that many are picking up 10-15 DVDs at that price, and I am astounded! :D I might go back and pick up Goldeneye if it's still there over lunch, my goody package from J6P is supposed to show up today so I'll be going home for lunch. Yay!

Andrew, it's amazing what good looking photos will do to give a website a face-lift. Good job! I need to revamp my site, maybe go for a more cohesive look to all my pages.

The wait for my Tempest driver is a pain because I've basically had to shut things down on Sunosub II, that is, unless I build Sunosub III with the leftover 27" long piece of sonotube I still have. I must be addicted to sawdust.

Morning all form TGW North to you left if facing east and to your right if facing west :)

Gregg, just a quick look indicates you may want a volume of 300 L (10 cubic feet) with a tuning of 19.6 Hz to have F3 at 18 Hz :E That's a monster graph! Now I only looked at something that would put you in the same range as your current Sono. Dan wiggins has mentioned that the Tempest would work well in a 8 cubic foot enclosure.

have a great day all!

Gregg, not sure if I understand your question. You should follow up and post them over at the Mission Possible DIY section. But I think you're wondering how much internal volume you'll need for a dual Tempest sonotube, and I've go with 16-20 ft^3. This is why I went with a single Tempest in a 10 ft^3 enclosure.

Hey Trevor, did you send it Airborne Express? I have a note saying they tried to deliver today but were unsucessful, as no one was home. So they said I could pick it up tonight, but their pickup time frame is exactly when my class starts/ends, and it's all the way over at the Fort Collins/Loveland Airport. So I told them to get off their lazy asses tomorrow and walk it over to the office of my apartments, since it neighbors my building. I mean seriously, my apartment overlooks the pool area/office...and yet they didn't want to take it there.
So with any luck, if that's the right package, I should have it by tomorrow...

Hello folks, I'm at work right now! Ack! I should be leaving right after this post.

Jehan, I did go back to CompUSA, and picked up Goldeneye and For Love Of The Game at $14.88 a pop.

J6P, I finally got the package today! One of back corner edges got smushed due to UPS roughness, but I think I can smooth it out (slap some wood filler and use a black marker to repaint if if I have to). But I've listen to them, and they are playing fine. I'll be using them for the rear speakers, and possibly using my little RS1's for the rear center speakers if I ever get a cheap DPL to do DD EX or dts ES. Thanks again!

BTW, have I mentioned I'm still at work?

Good night all!

And Gregg, if you decide to use only one Tempest, I'll be happy to take the other one off your hands. But I think you really want to build that 20 ft^3 SonoDome with the 30" wide sonotube. :D

Good morning to all from the good ole North East U S of A. It's "good ole" right now, I probably won't be saying that in January when it's 10 below and blizzarding. :)

Joey, it's about time you showed us your new toy. With all that time with no updates, it was beginning to look a little fishy to me. :D Of course, she should have gotten you a Pronto, but hey, if that's what you wanted, that's what you got. Good luck with your new toy! :)

After several people left where I work, they had a meeting to find out what employees wanted to get them to stay. The #1 item is, you guessed it, better salaries. I thought I was paid well, but a little research revealed that I should be making $15-25K more per year than I am. We'll see what happens, maybe I'll get a big raise, or a new job in the near future, and I'll be able to afford more Home Theater toys!! :)

Oh wow, I took us onto the next page, now I REALLY feel part of the new TTP forum pages. :)

Ok so uhm, there is a strike against the high price of fuel here in the UK right now, a strike which has subsequently stopped ANY fuel from entering the country, and uhm, England is kinda without any fuel for our vehicles right now and I'm sorta glad I dont drive.

You wont find fuel at a gas station within a 20 mile radius of your location, it is literally impossible to fill up your car or whatever. Of course, no fuel is having an effect on business'. people can not get to work, buses have nothing to run on, postal serivce like royal mail and even the likes of FedEx/DHL...etc are unable to deliver and even emergancy services have been unable to go out! On top of that, many airports across the county and even up in Scotland say they will not be able to fuel their planes in about 9 or so hours. It's both hilarious and horrible!

Protesters allowed tankers through to exclusively fuel the emergency services, but still it goes on!

I really do hate this mess of a country, don't ever move here peeps, Andrew knows what I'm talking about... I'll be out of here as soon as I possibly can. Pound has fallen rapidly against the dollar too, so I save little to nothing on my online purchases of R1 DVDs! Arghhh!

Anyway, had my lunch now, gonna watch First Contact DVD I think... Playing the Tarzan CD right now though, got me in the mood to watch that DVD, one of my faves DVDs for visual and sonic presentation, love it!

Bing, well, you can do the Geocities (http://geo.yahoo.com) thing (sign up for a yahoo email account and then go to Geocities for your webpage/webspace), Andrew signed up for the "sonotube" yahoo ID, and I signed up my "Sunosub" ID over there too. :D

or if you only want to store photos, you can use Photo Point (http://www.photopoint.com) which supposedly allows unlimited storage of photos (non-nekkid ones). Hope that helps.

Kevin, uh, what exactly do you do? I need a new line of work!

J6P, the fish tank looks very cool. Make sure you take care of the tank water and the fishes, it doesn't take much to let it get run down. Is it a freshwater tank? One of my friends had this huge 125 gallon tank, but after a few years, he had a change in job situation, and found it hard to sell it to someone else (plus it was a major undertaking to drain it and move it too).

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Per litre I THINK its around 90 pence, which is roughly translated to $1.30 in US funds. Where as in the US around 22% of fuel cost per litre for your car is tax, about 73% accounts for the cost of tax in fuel prices here in England.

The protests have spread into Europe too. I saw a pic of a street in Belgium earlier, no cars on the streets, it's like a ghost town and now I think of it, not a single car has passed my window today here at home.

I have a few things I am awaiting in the mail, apparently our postal service has only enough fuel for the next 20 hours or so. Crazy situation, but I can do nothing but laugh frankly...

HELP! This is due tonight and I need help figuring out one of my writing assignments. Here's what it says:

How can you rewrite any root of a real number as an equivalent exponential expression? Give an example.

I *think* I know the answer to this, but I'm not sure. Can someone please help me understand it if anyone knows it? Even if I did just show how dumb I really am ;) Any help within the next hour or two is GREATLY appreciated!

Joey, great lyrics. No I just wanted Cd audio, but I'm thinking MP3's would have been nice at work. I'll just copy over the cd's when I get the chance. Nice looking fish tank. I was guessing a nice lazyboy recliner bed.

Dan, I just don't get a blockade against all fuel coming in? Like what will that accomplish? Nobody can buy gas so nobody can go nowhere. What kind of statement is that? Obviously gas out days don't go to well. So US$1.30/l that's about cdn$1.95/l. In Van gas is going for .729-.759/l, don't ask me why the extra digit.

Andrew, that's a great looking setup. I like the looks of those cubical divider speakers. :)

Here's your weekly safety briefing. Be careful what you wear (or don't wear),when working under your vehicle...especially in public.

From the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia, comes this story of a central west couple who drove their car to K-Mart only to have their car
break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car.

The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car. On closer inspection she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the
chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned his private parts into glaringly public ones.

Unable to stand the embarrassment she dutifully stepped forward and tucked everything back into place.

On regaining her feet she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by.

The mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his head.

J6P,

I think the answer is just:

X^(1/y) where Y is the root your looking for.

For example:

Y = 2 for a square root
Y = 3 for a cube root
Y = 4 for a quadruple root
and so on.

So the square root of X is X^(1/2)
The cube root of X is X^(1/3)
and so on...

Just wondering what the time is.

Okay, let me try that math problem. I think Bing is on the right track, but he's got and exponetional for X and the root for Y. Don't know if that made sense. Here's how I might answer that question.

y root x = x ^ 1/y

I'm not sure of the notation, but essentially what I am trying to say is what Pl@ just said.

Joey, that's exactly what I was thinking of.

Math was funnish in Highschool, but more hellish in college/university. I did a math 100 course, a nice pass, and tried a 101 course the next term. I stayed in for like a day and switched to the 141 course or whatever the number was, that was more math for commerce. It was a little easier so I was able to get a better mark.

Well after a rethink last night I'm not selling the energy rears..if I did and replaced them with the MMG's it would mean I'd have to make sure that any future room would be large enough to accomodate that large a floor standing speaker and thats not something I really want to do. Besides the bipole RVSS blend fairly well with the MMG's as is and its the centre that I need to replace not the rears....but a little voice in a far off land might have something for me so don't be surprised is some other change happens

Haha, this is just so bad now I no longer know what to make of it. Protests have died down, and tankers are rolling out again however it's going to be at least 3 to 4 days before anyone notices any changes and most gas stations like Texaco are reporting thinks won't be "back to normal" for at least fifteen or so days...

So right now, still and probably well into next week fuel is only allocated to emergency services only, oddly this includes broadcasting (and the celebrities which form part of it, no doubt). In south Wales alone 17,000 kids have been un-able to go to school because their bus is not on the 'priority list'... Shopping markets are low on stock too, with one retailer reporting they will have next to nothing on sale come Sunday. A vast number of people (over 20,000) across Britain have been laid off, with there no way of them getting to work and small business' that thrive off transport of goods are failing. Oh dear!

I'm annoyed, I cant get into london and bag my copy of High Fidelity DVD tomorrow because of all this crap, oh and the protesters say they'll be back in 60 days if tax is not lowered on fuel. So that'll be late Nov, thank god I'll be home from LA on Nov 12th I guess...arghh

Dan (UK)

PS: Joey, Scrooge and Donald look great, but what are the purble glasses in front of Old Mr McD? They look like the ones from Muppet Vision 3D...

PPS: Like the HT site of yours, Andrew

Joey Millison

Dan,
Close, they are the same glasses they used for Captain EO back when it was being shown at Disneyland in the 80's/early 90's. I managed to find a pair, as I've been wanting one for a while.

All,
The statues are made of Resin, and are very large and have great detail. I'm not sure if you can see in the picture, but Scrooge actually has a pair of spectacles (no jokes, heh) as he does in the cartoon, with lenses and all. They're extremely cool in my opinion, and when I get a house and have a HT lobby I will have each one on a podium :) Getting antsy, need a house! As SOON as I get outta debt!!! Any co-signers? I can make it worth-while ;)
Seriously I can't wait to display these guys as they should be shown, instead of just having them sit on top of my computer desk.
The thing that REALLY pisses me off is that they're sold only at the Disney Gallery in L.A. For $125 a piece. But they didn't sell all of them so they shipped them to the Disney stores and sold them for HALF OFF!!! But my brother quit his job there to focus on school, so I didn't know until LITERALLY the day after they shipped them back to the Gallery. Now the Gallery doesn't have any in stock (they had ONE Scrooge left, which is the one Mandi got for me), so the ONLY place to get them is on E-Bay, for $200+ a piece. How shitty is that? For the price Mandi paid for Scrooge and Mickey we could have had the whole set! It's all about timing...
So if anyone has a Disney Store nearby, and they see either Pluto, Goofy, Minnie or Daisy PLEASE let me know! I'd be SO grateful!

Ah, Captain EO! I recall very little about that having only been about nine when I saw Jackson strut his funky stuff along with a bunch of reject Muppets from Return of the Jedi at Epcot in Orlando. I would really like to see it again though, just to jog my memory about it, though I still think Muppet Vision 3D is the greatest 3D show I have ever seen in my life, it's just perfect...

Watched the Who Wants to be a Millionare, Canadian Edition, man that's a mouthful, last night. What a lame broadcast. No Regis, but Pamela Walin(?) was trying her best imitation. What a joke. In fact for one contestent she was dragging out the correct answer. It was unbearable, I'm glad the contestant answered, "Well Duh!" when she asked a stupid question.

Glad to see Chris drop in, but I figured with school starting up he would be pretty busy.

Speaking of school starting up, I took the day off the first day back to school last week. So I avoided most of the traffic. Plus a lot of people were pretty pissed as some bus drivers decided to walk off the job in Burnaby, suburb to Vancouver. This eventually spread to Van, but they all went back to work for the evening rush.

Chris!, welcome aboard. Our quarter hasn't kicked off yet (Fall), but I see the new students streaming in everyday (little do they know what they are in for :)) I am a little relieved I am not teaching this quarter actually.

Pat: sitting at home waiting for the UPS guy is not fun at all :). Had to do it a few times, the sad thing is we know each other on a first name basis... But it's a good excuse to skip away from work for a little while :)

Looks like the upgrade bug bit hard this time, I just talked to my dealer and it looks like I will be swapping out my Sony receiver for a new Denon 3801 (DTS-ES) which *should* be here early October. The ol 930 has served me well so far (hint hint Pat :))but I am ready for a change and even though separates were the ultimate goal I don't think that will happen for a while. Jehan, I don't plan on upgrading (famous last words, I know) until maybe next year once the dust has settled on all those funky surround formats. I just don't want to be on the bleeding edge of technology anymore. I never had a DPL receiver, I kept my Dolby Surround (pre-cursor to DPL) for over 9 years I think. But now I want a DPL receiver just to play around with psuedo DD-EX and dts-ES setups. Oh well, I'm sure I can find a cheap DPL receiver for around $100 if I look around hard enough.

Speaking of teaching, I was office a math TA (teaching assistant) position while in college, but I lacked the confidence to think that I knew the material (plus having to keep abreast of the material while learning new stuff just wasn't something too appealing to me at the time). But now I now that people just wing it if they don't know something. I guess looking back I should have taking the TA position just for the experience.

Guys, how often do you upgrade out of curiosity? Had my Pioneer THX/DD/DTS for not even a year yet, but I am wondering how often it is wise, if one can afford it, to upgrade?

trevor I doubt my day will be any better...had to go to the dentist and was treated to a nice $700 bill:) Oh well got my DTS MiB DVD today (thanks joey) so I'll watch that tonight.

If I had the money, I'd probably upgrade every couple of years. Based on my past track record, I've upgraded once every 5 years. Bought my aunts stuff in 94, then bought more speakers and a new rec and dvd player in 99. So my next upgrade will be in 2004! :P

Andrew, Yikes, don't you have any dental coverage? Or is that your portion? :E Haven't got my MIB yet, I hope I get it this afternoon. I went out and bought a dvd magazine called Total Movie. It's been getting a pretty good buzz over at HTF, so I'll see how much I can check out tonight.

DanB, I think is about when you have enough disposable income to be a dangerous upgrader. :D Also, if what you have suits your needs, don't go looking (like buying a car, only look when you really need to get another car, else you never know what you'll bring home).

Paul, when I got my partial crown for one of my back teeth, I think the cost out of pocket was around $450 (out of $950 bill) but dental coverage is definitely nice to have, and of course as I'm about to have the dentist start drilling out my fillings/etc, he goes, "BTW, you know today's procedure will cost anywhere from $900-$1100, right?" and I go "aah hunh..." and the drilling commences. Talk about having someone over a barrel... :D

I have never watched MIB in its entirety.

Hmm, I lasted about an hour before I openned up my new magazine. :) I was really trying to be good and wait till tonight, but I just couldn't resit. Nice glossy paper, will have to flip through it during lunch, which I usually don't take, but I think I need to take today. The dvd itself looks like a single layer and mine looks like it's got some little specs on it. It comes in one of those cardboard sleaves so I've popped it into a spare cd case. Here's what is listed on the the dvd:

Trailers:
Pearl Harbor, Bedazzled, The Exorcist, Blair Witch2, Unbreakable, Ladies Man, The Specials, Cherry Falls, X-Men, Gladiator, Chicken Run, The Perfect Storm, Me, Myself, & Irene, Shanghai Noon, Gone in 60 Seconds, Dinosaur, Road Trip, Titan A.E.

Short Films:
Troops - "Star Wars meets Cops" I've seen this over the net and it's pretty funny.
The Dancing Cow - No idea what the plot is, but it has 2 commentaries.
The Dancing Cow - Behind the Scenes

Cool Extra Stuff:
Romeo Must Die - behind the scenes
Any Given sunday - behind the scenes
Chicken Run - behind the scenes
The Legend of Bagger Vance - behind the scenes
Me, Myself & Irene - behind the scenes
Cool Sony Stuff - Hmm, I'd say extended commercial
Musicland
E! Stuff

DVD Releases:
Scram 3 Extras, Chasing Amy Extras, Free Enterprise, "No Tears for Caesar" Video, Cannibal - The Musical Trailer, Trey Parker/Matt Stone Interview, Trey & Matt PSA

I've got a long wait before I can pop this disc in my player, I've got an evening meeting that I have to attend.

I've been tryin to sign up for that Total Mag for a while and the page just keeps giving me an error. I really would like to pick this first issue up though - might go hunting this afternoon.

Pat: Interesting point you make about the different sound formats. At this point I will safely say I will keep my receiver for HT and later on build a setup for music. The only format which interested me was DTS-ES (discrete), and since I do not have a LD player I didn't worry about too much else. However, these reports on DPL-II have got me thinking... The Denon 3801 has a Neo-6 mode which looks interesting but I wonder if I should hold out for DPL-II. I don't have an aweful lot of Pro-Logic stuff, in fact very little.

Any input on the matter would be helpful ;)

Had Steven Simon mail me a copy of Total Movie, and the cheeky sod surprised me by UPS'ing it to me yesterday. Decent enough magazine, actually a US version of the UK 'Total Film' publication, but a lot less ignorant and poorly written with a lot more knowledge about DVD. I wouldn't subscribe to it though, I see little point in such magazine when you have internet access... The DVD that comes with it however, is neat and I guess the main incentive to buy it each month.

I found it interesting skimming the pages of a US movie mag seeing how well new and upcoming DVD software and hardware are advertised, there appears to be a far tighter and secure grip on how to market such stuff then there is in magazines here.

Here the movie mags rant on about how good it all is, but fail to every explain to their readers exactly WHAT it is, and its then same for manufacturers of players too. When I pick up a UK film mag, see a dvd review reading "and it's also 16x9 anamorphic, whatever that is" I laugh and understand why much of the UK is un-educated in the ways of DVD and home theater.

In England peoples perception of DVD is "wow, I'll buy one, no idea what it does, but I'll buy one"... I was very mean once, going into an electornics store asking if a player has a bitrate feedback, dts and anamorphic enhanced output along with rsdl and dvd-18 cmpatability, basically throwing as much DVD terminology at the clerk as I could, only to be resonded with an "uhm...." :)

The way DVD is advertised on tv and in mags here is just basically "buy this, its new technology, we're not going to tell you what it does specificaly, but it'll play films, ok? Great!"

Fun watching Joe six packs in a local HMV going "wow The Matrix, and its got menus and shit!"... Always tempting to walk up to them and explain that because the version in their hands is 86 seconds shorter then the US release due to British censor cuts the commentary track and isolated score, among other extras, are all missing. I never do though, then I'd have to explain region codes....hehe

Yeah, I figure the main attraction for the mag is the dvd.

Holy Crap, I didn't know the Brit censors were that bad! The jargon dropping sounds like what we did last month during a receiver info gathering trip I had with a local HTF member. We hit a bunch of stores and dropped some jargon. Mainly it was just DTS ES, DD EX, DVD-Audio.

Oh yeah, congrats to Gregg for achieving Full Member status.

Very Late Night (morning) update :)

Been chatting with friends back in Australia and the opening ceremony is underway.. sucks how we get delayed coverage :(. Everyone seems to be very excited back in Sydney. Oh well...

Gave Exorcist 3 a spin again after reading a thread on the HTF I remembered that though I had the disc I hadn't spun it before.. so I thought I would revisit the film. Overall, I thought it was quite ok.. a little disjointed in parts ... like the screenplay didn't get enough time on the drawing board. The ending was certainly rushed and took something away from the movie. Still, not a bad watch at around 2am in the morning :)

See you all in a few hours :D

Good morning all.

Jehan, the olympics are just awesome, I really wished I was there. I got to take part in the 96 games in Atlanta by verifying scoring for Greco Roman wrestling and then by escorting freestyle wrestlers to the mats in their competition. It was cool.

I even got to see Pocket Hercules (the very short weight lifter) get a blow job (honest!!). Me and a buddy were walking down a street near the House of Blues and there he was walking with a real ugly chick / whore and they walked into a car parkade and she went down on him. We couldnt believe it. His bodyguard/escort came over to us and started talking about how the Turkish Govt lets him do this EVERY NIGHT!! And they pay the bill. The next day was the last day of the freesytle competition and I was having lunch with the Turkish Wrestling Team Doctor and 2 Turk Wrestlers (all strict moslems), all were well aware of Pocket Hercules and thought he was a disgrace to their country. Anyway, it made a great story to tell a few friends.

I hope everybody has a good day!!

Gregg, er, nice Olympic memories you got there with that Turkish lifter (what countries will do for gold medals...sigh). I went to 2 baseball games when the Olympics were in Atlanta: Baseball game between Cuba and some crappy team (Cube crushed them), and the US and some other country. This was on the day after the bomb going off that fateful Friday night. Some friends of mine had driven up from Mobile, and they passed through downtown Atlanta and saw all the fire trucks and cop cars all over the place near the stadium as they were heading to my place (I live on the northeast side of Atlanta outside the perimeter). I had tickets to the track-n-field on a Sunday morning, but I opted not to go since it was way too early on a Sunday.

A week before Christmas would be the 18th, but I do feel your son's pain when it comes to getting presents. :D Does he get cheated by getting "combo" presents for his birthday and Christmas presents? "Oh, here's 2 halves of a model airplane, one half for your birthday present, one half for your Christmas present." Gimme a break, lady! :)

British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) Press Release on new guidelines of censorship of film:

The public has told the BBFC that the Board's Guidelines for classifying films and videos should be more relaxed in the '18' category, but that the Board should be tougher on violence, drug portrayal and bad language at the lower classification levels.

Publishing new Guidelines for the classification of all films and videos today, Andreas Whittam Smith, President of the BBFC said: "After an extensive consultation and research exercise, involving two Citizens' Juries, a national survey, ten public presentations and hundreds of submissions from public groups and individuals, the Board has produced a new set of Guidelines for the classification of all films and videos. We were determined to get as clear a picture as possible of what the public thinks about the portrayal of sex, violence, drugs and bad language in films and videos. I am pleased to say that these new Guidelines reflect that."

Director of the BBFC Robin Duval said: "What was very clear from the consultation - which involved over 3,000 people from all demographic groups and from right across the UK - was that adults want to choose what they watch without excessive intervention by the Board. The new '18' Guidelines mean that the Board will only intervene on the rare occasion where a film promotes violent or dangerous activities, gives instructive detail of illegal drugs use, or contains particularly explicit sexual images. "What also came across very clearly was that the present classification system was overwhelmingly accepted as a useful guide when deciding what to watch, and was particularly important in terms of protecting children from seeing inappropriate material. But, while the majority of the public felt we should interfere less in the adult category, they also thought we could be more restrictive in the 'U', 'PG' and '12' categories on violence, drugs and bad language. When it came to the '15' category,
they felt we could be more relaxed about the portrayal of sex, but with the emphasis on responsible, loving and developing relationships.

"We have taken particular note of the general concern expressed about the portrayal of drugs and drug taking, particularly at the lower categories. We have spelt out, for the first time, that 'U' films and videos should have no reference of any sort to drugs and have strengthened the restrictions at 'PG', '12' and '15'.

"People will notice that we have dropped the list of examples of bad language which the old Guidelines contained. One reason for this is because there is so much disagreement around the country and at different age levels about what is offensive. However, we will be stricter on the use of expletives with a religious association. At the younger end of the scale, the language constraints have been tightened at 'U' and 'PG' and there will no longer be any automatic acceptance of the use of the 'F' word at '12'. In addition the standard at '15' has been tightened with the strongest terms being 'only rarely acceptable'.

"Even though the public has - perhaps surprisingly - only limited concern about the levels of violence permitted by the Guidelines as a whole, there were still worries about children watching violent films. The Board has therefore made adjustments at the lower categories and given much greater prominence to concern about imitable techniques at all levels.

"While the great majority of the public wants the Board's classification system to remain mandatory, they also want more detailed information about the content of films and videos to help them decide what they, and their children, should watch. The Board anticipates that with the pace of development in the new electronic media the emphasis on the provision of consumer information as an alternative to regulation will inevitably increase. The Board currently provides consumer advice about the subject matter of the film or video to distributors as a matter of course, but it is their decision whether or not to include the information in the publicity or packaging. The video companies at present make rather more use of it than the film exhibitors and distributors. We are prepared to increase the amount of information we provide and we will be talking to the local authorities, as the bodies responsible for licensing cinemas, as well as to the cinema exhibitors and the distributors to see if we can encourage them to carry more advice about their films."

Andreas Whittam Smith concluded: "Neither the BBFC nor any other regulatory organisation has ever embarked on this level of public consultation and research before and it reflects the importance placed on getting the Guidelines right. As well as using the more traditional national survey approach, the Board used the latest in research techniques - Citizens' Juries. The two Juries gave the Guidelines a very thorough scrutiny over more than four days, and their views have played a significant part in the shaping of the new Guidelines. In addition we have taken into account a very wide range of opinion from committed libertarians to those who would impose the most severe restrictions. We have given particular attention to the views of our own Advisory Panel on Children's Viewing. I believe the new Guidelines represent the views of the great majority of the people in this country. However, we will continue to monitor the public's reactions to the changes at every category level.

"While the public gave a clear steer that the classification system should remain mandatory the '12' category can be problematic, with children on either side of that age developing at very different rates. The Board feels that it would therefore be useful to explore whether the '12' category should become advisory, thus allowing parents to decide whether younger children should be able to see a '12' film. Were this to happen, information about the film or video content would have to be sufficient to allow parents to make informed decisions. The revolution in communication technology may mean over time that content regulators will have to rely more on information and advice than on intervention."

-----

Ok, all well and good for the BBFC, but let me explain a few things about ratings here in the UK:

U -- Equivalent in the US is a 'G' rating, and here it deemss a film as 'Universal, suitable for all'

PG -- Same as US, Parently Guidance Advised

12 -- Can often be close to the PG-13 rating, and here means NO ONE under the age of 12 is permitted to see the film, not even with adult accompanyment.

15 -- Equivalent to PG-13 and sometimes R ratings, and here means NO ONE under 15 is permitted to see the film, not even with adult accompanyment.

18 -- Equivalent to R and sometimes NC-17 ratings, again, NO ONE under the age of 18 is permitted, not even with adult accompanyment.

So, where as in the US you peeps can take an 8 year old into Pulp Fiction if accompanied by someone over 17, here, you strictly have to be above the rated age to see the film.

Now obviously with the stricter rules on certificates here, movie studios aim for the lowest rating they can get. For instance, Warner wanted as many young people to see The Matrix as possible, so in that respect were ready to settle for a 15 certificate for the movie. With this in mind the BBFC cut a good number of shots from the film to bring it down from what would have been an 18, to a 15. This is one way in which our censors work.

Another way is that the BBFC actualy have rules on specific things in films that will be cut, regardless. Take the Nunchaka weapon, no film is alowed to show this weapon in use in the UK, so as you can imagine, our cut of Enter the Dragon is hysterical! Martial Arts movies will suffer considerably here in England, it's our censors pet hate.

Were these new guidlines fail then, is with the process in which the studios want the lowest certificate possible, predomenantly 12 or 15 rating, for BIG releases and the BBFC now stating releases with those and PG certificates will be the ones they're going to hack up the most!!

Soccer, Archery, boxing...okay just about anything called a sport will keep my attention:)

Gregg what do you think about them including syncro driving in the olympics this time? I was reading a newspaper interview with team Canada'a diving coach and they were pretty much against it.

I side with the Canadian coach as being against it. Once I see it though it may be a different story if it appeals to me then. But just thinking and trying to visual it does not do much for me.

I also like just about all the sports, as long as the competition is close. Basketball is boring now with the US Pros taking on other amateurs...

Hmmm, I personally enjoy the nude women's mud wrestling...are they going to have that in Sydney as well?

Seriously though, I usually love to watch all of the swimming. When I was young and in great shape I was on a swim team and now have a great understanding for how much work it is to do what they do. Hell, everyone trains hard I'm sure (except the ping pong guys, heh), but I just have a little more respect for the swimmers. I wish I could get on a swim team, but I don't think they have a Manatee league ;)

That phone looks exactly like mine. I think I've got an older one. Do you know how to totally eliminate the ring?

I think you hit Program, and then it says:

"00 VOLUME ADJUSTMENT"
"SELECT OR SCROLL >"

Then hit '00'

You'll see a menu with numbers 1 - 5...

pressing '1' is your ringer volume, and you can use the volume button to turn it up/down

pressing '2' is your "buzzer" beep...same thing to adjust...

3 is speaker volume, 4 is handset volume, and 5 is handsfree volume :)

Paul Wu
09-15-2000, 02:58 PM
I've tried that, but I still get the ringer, but it's at the lowest volume. I'd like to turn it completely off. Haven't found out how to do that and I've RTFM already. :) I'd like to just have it flash so as to not disturb me while I'm working away. Don't necessarily want to call foward if it's an important call. I've got call display so I can usually tell who's calling.

Hewwo guys! TGIF except it's raining like crazy. Hopefully it'll all blow through tonight and it'll be nice this weekend. I hope, since I plan to close the pool this weekend, including installing anchors for the new cover...that's going to take a while. What a bad summer--most of the time it was too cold to use the pool. Hopefully next year will be better.

6 more days until I get paid--man I hate this getting paid only once a month garbage. After I get paid, I'll have money to buy the SVS sub and amp... Gregg, any word on the amp? My copy of Haunting DTS is calling to me, just waiting to crack the foundation. :)

Kevin, I seem to recal you mentioning the once a month pay as being suck. I'll agree with that. In fact when I started this job I moved from biweekly to bimonthly. Which sucks, cause before each week we would receive a pay cheque. My wife one week, me the next. It was pretty sweet.

Joey, no idea on that. I just use "Message" to check my messages. I'm sure you could probably reprogram it, but I haven't even reprogramed any of my other buttons. They all have the old names of the previous person setup. :)

Favourite items are amaebi(raw sweet shrimp), chopped scallop, tobico(flying fish roe), and beef sashimi. Never heard of that boston roll.

Probably watch some TV, a closet Big Brother watcher. Can't stand the show, but I must watch. Hope to spin MIB tonight as well. That should round out a very nice evening.

Hi guys..

I was in the middle on finally writing my first post to the new TTP. I was writing about the massive storm right overhead, and quite ironically the power went down.

Anyhow, what I was saying was:

I`m currently on holiday in Japan, and in the middle of a storm, due to a typhoon about to hit Tokyo. The thunderclaps have such awesome bass power...when I can get that feeling in my HT, then I`ll be happy...I`m talking about shaking the foundations of all the houses many blocks around :)

Sadly I haven`t got to hear the 80`s collection...mine arrived the same morning I left to Japan, and since I don`t have a portable CD player (I`m an MD person), I didn`t bring it with me....but from what I hear, it`s great, so I look forward to hearing it.

I just got a digital camera (Powershot S100/Elph in the US), and when I get home I`ll grab some picks of my room for you guys to check out....no fish tank though, but some pretty cool hardware.

keep it real people :)

Big Brother? The UK version ended last night after some 60 days or some. Caught bits of it, but watched it last night... Oddly, it was when I began media and film studies in college when I just watched little TV, one would think I'd watch more in such a situation, but no! Simpsons is all I clock in for.

Hey Max, welcome back to the TTP :) I hope all is well and the storm doesn't get too bad! That really sucks that you got the 80's collection but didn't get to hear them yet! That's like when Paul gets a DVD delivered at work, and has to stare at it all day without being able to watch it until he gets home. Pure torture! It's good to see you back though!

I *HATE* waiting for UPS, especially when something extremely cool is going to be delivered. My newest addition to my HT room, more HT related than the fishtank ;) This is something that...hmmmm...how do I put it...accents my setup and reacts to it? No, it's not one of those flowers that sit in the flower pot and dance to the music ;) But it's close...something a little more high-tech. If I can take pictures of it I'll have them up tonight though! I'm really excited about this! EVERY freaking noise I hear I react to as if it were the UPS guy knocking on the door, and I sit there and stare out the window watching for the van. This is one box that's getting shredded, not opened politely ;)
This is going to be "Soopa-Cool!" As least it looked cool from its picture...heh heh...
I watched "Quidam" again last night (yup, talking about Cirque Du Soleil again, heh) and am completely convinced that EVERYONE needs to see it. Great picture, and great sound, but you're not going to notice because you're going to be SO enthralled in what's going on. A little on the "artsy fartsy" side, but a wonderful DVD! I can't wait until they come back to Denver...
I get to have my fishtank water tested today :) I have to have it tested for approx 6 weeks until it's suitable to put other fish in. It has to build up some critical bacteria, and the water levels have to balance out. She said I'd probably lose most of my fish in the first week, but I haven't lost ONE. I've paid a lot of attention to them, and made sure not to over feed them and everything. Can't wait to get some more fish once the tank is ready!
That "echo" program is cool, I've been running it for a week and am working on my second $18 GC for Amazon. I even have a cool 80's station that also plays movie soundtracks! Pretty cool! If any of you guys who use Echo wanna join my station lemme know :) At this rate I'll be able to afford some of those DVDs I want and haven't pre-ordered yet (I REALLY want Toy Story 3 disc set, Fantasia 3 disc set, and Jurassic Park and Lost World DTS).
I heard a big vehicle, COULD IT BE THE UPS GUY?!?!?!?!

Andrew Pratt
09-16-2000, 03:41 PM
Well Joey we might just have little surprise for you that might help out get those DVD's. Since you worked so hard on the 80's collection we all got together and chipped in to buy you a GC from DVD Express (check your email!) That GC should just about cover the JP and TLW in DTS for you so get going and pre order those Discs:) I think I can safely speak for all of us that got a copy of the 80's collection that we are very grateful for all your hard work...this set is awesome.

good evening everybody, just a quick check in to let you know all is well in Maine.

Watched Buzz Lightyear last night, $20 bucks pissed out the window. No better than any cartoon on the tele. Even the DD was terrible, so many explosions and other effects and almost no sound track. Does anybody know if Disney actually refunds your money with their satisfaction guarantee?

We are watching Inspector Gadget tonight. Much better and that Brenda (professor) is easy to look at :)

Take care!!

Sorry Gregg,,I should have warned you about the Buzz Lightyear disc,,I bought it when it came out and actually thought it was the same animation as Toy Story,,didn't realize it was a cartoon. Joey,,I doubt you need to test the water in your tank for 6 weeks..After a couple of days of filteration you should be safe to add more fish.Just stay away from Oscars,,they will wake you in the night.
My tank has been set for 5 years now and I haven't changed the water yet. Its always crystal clear and my Firemouth Chiclid seems to be quite happy. I clean the filter once every 6 months and just add water when it gets low.( As you can see,,I am a real fish tank enthusiast)

P.S. make sure you set the tank close to the Sono,,fish love to be bounced by the bass..:D

Good morning everybody,

Thanks for the Canadian update, the cover in the US sucks (unless you are an american). NBC is only showing US athletes that are expected to do well. They are not giving any other results or highlights. (same as in 1996).

In Atlanta, the wrestling finals were being broadcast live in all countries EXCEPT the US. BTW, the US kicked serious ass in Freestyle and won like 6 medals (?).

Have a great day!!

You guys need to get CBC..They always do an exceptional job in covering the Olympics. That reminds me I have to get some extra cable so I can get my Express Vu dish reconnected..After the rearrangement of the room,I wasn't able to reconnect it since the original cable was only long enough to pop through the wall with no extra length.

Whats everyone got planned today.

trevor DV-8?

I visted a fishing buddy of mine last night who just had a baby girl...cute little thing and didn't smell at all (sorry JurassicPark joke) anyway we're now planning a fishing trip to remember. We'll have to take one boat across a large lake towing a small one behind us. then portage the small boat and our gear for just over 1/2 mile into the next lake. This lake (crowduck) has some amazing walleye and small mouth fishing so we'll set up camp on one of the islands and fish for a few days.

Fri night: Did make it to a neighbourhood Sushi place. Well, we thought it would be good, everytime I walk by on my way home it's packed. Well it's packed because of the noexistant service! Man what a disappointment. The prawn tempura was nice, and so was the salmon sashimi. But the sushi we orderd tasted fishy. I know that may sound weird, as sushi is raw fish with rice, but I would say that the rice was fishy, ah just can't describe it. Did get a chance to watch MIB. Lots of fun, plus did you know that everytime the MIB car shutdown there's a nice bit of LFE going on. :) But man those dvd holders are killer, spent about 5 minutes trying to get the disc out.

Trev: I think Dan's going to the meet. Can't wait for all those meet reports. Haven't seen M2M, but it looks interesting. DV-8?

Max: Howdy, hope you stay safe. Now those thuderclaps are they more loud than low bass? The only reason I ask is the few thuderstorms I've been in have been more loud than low. Of course having your trusty RS SPL meter would be handy. :) I don't have one yet myself, but I could see me pulling it out if there was every a thunderstorm around here.

Joey: You're getting one of those eletrosquiggaly things that pulses to the music, right? I saw a copy of Quidam at Virgin Megastore, but the price was outragoues, in fact all the prices there were outrageous! Everything was retail and then some! Just blew my mind. Already on Echo. :) I've also hooked up to your station.

Jehan: Yup watched some Olympics last night, live. :) Greatist moment was the win in Triathalon for Canada. Was kinda disappointed in the second tie in water polo between Canada and the US. Canada was up by 3 points with just 2 minutes left. US made a pretty great comeback to tie it up. Also a Canadia Swimmer, Curtis Myden, won bronze in the 400m idividual medaly. Watched a great second half of the mens basketball game between Canada and Austrailia. Canada won by 11 points, but it was a real close game. Also caught a bit of the US dream team against China. Well US won, but the early minutes China had the lead. I was switching channels between CBC and TSN. Some really good coverage.

Andrew: That's some fishing trip. Saw how are those maggies sounding? And how is the transition from your center to your maggies? Is it noticable?

Bing: I think they call it the Olympic distance. There's also Ironman distance, where they swim 2 miles, bike 112 miles, and run a full marathon at the end. The big event for that is in Hawaii.

Paul, you are awarded the gold in page flipping! ;)

The first nice weekend temperature wise in a long time here. Highs around 88F instead of 108F so we have spent a lot of time outside this weekend! Still no rain in something like 78 days, but it is a lot easier to take with milder temps! Went to my nephew's rollerblade hockey game yesterday, then to Don Pablo's for lunch, then cleaned out the garage, washed the truck, and then watched Any Given Sunday last night. It was a good day!

Today my brother grilled hamburgers and hot dogs outside at his house, and then we watched the Olympics before going outside and throwing the football around a little bit. It has been nice to actually get outdoor time for me and my boys!

Circuit City had advertised Platoon for $11.99 and were sold out when I went by after leaving my brothers house. No one there to help or look for any additional copies in the back. Customer service is a joke there. I'm going back tomorrow when the main store manager is there and I'm going to let him know what I think of there Sunday crew, and to see if they have restocked.

With both the NFL and Olympics on, so much sports, so little time!

Molson Canadian Rocks DV-8,, This is a huge sports and music event taking place in downtown Saskatoon which is sponsered by Molson Canadian. it has been held in a few city's this summer across Canada.

The sports events include snowbording, skate boarding, inline skating and bmx biking..They actually constructed huge ramps and quarter pipes, banks and rails etcc..so the athletes can show off their talents. Artificial snow was created for the Snowboarders.

The music is provided by live local bands from Saskatoon and Regina,,some names include Sloan,Mighty Bosstones, Jet Set Satallite,Limblifter,Gob, and the Rascalz.
The whole event gives the opportunity for Canadian bands and athletes to build up their own status in there own country..Beverage of choice would be of course Molson Canadian Beer.

I did not get a chance to go today as I had to visit my brother in the Hospital. He was involved in a serious head on car accident last night. He suffered broken legs and a fractured hip. Will probably have surgery tonight although were not sure yet.He is certainly in a huge amount of pain and experiencing extreme spasm's in his legs. It took the emergency crew 2 hours to get him out of the car last night at 1 pm..they had to cut off the roof in order to get him out.
It was very difficult to visit him today seeing him laying in the hospital bed all scratched and bruised and in enormous pain. He is lucky to be alive and they say it was the air bags that probably saved him or made it less worse than what it could have been. I didn't get the call of this accident until later in the morning.

Trev, hope your brother has a speedy recovery. As a survivor of my own head-on collision 4 years ago, I must say, ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT when you drive. I know I was saved because of the airbag and seatbelt combination. I suffered an airbag burn on my right inner forearm, a chest bruise, some achiness, and a headache, but I walked away from my accident, I was lucky.

I was also in the backselt of a brand new Nissan 240SX over 8-9 years ago in Panama City, and some drunk in the oncoming lane of traffic just turned left into us. The driver also needed the jaws of life used by the firemen to rip off the driver side door. He had plenty of scrapes, scatches, and bruises on his legs and torso, but he also survived because he had his seatbelt on.

It's weird, when you see that you're about to get hit head-on, time does slow down, but you can't react fast enough to avoid the collision. I drive like an old lady nowadays, better to avoid possible collisions when you can, and not proactively cause them with fast/reckless driving.

Paul, just wait for the final medal tally, then keep on talking... :D
