Got our first snow yesterday...not much, just enough to make me switch
my summer rims and tires back to the stock ones and put the snow tires on my wifes truck.
Supposed to get more snow later in the week.
Summer is offically over when I have to put the ugly stock rims back on:(

Good morning everyone!
Joey, good job on sucking up to the prof! Chris White would be impressed.
Trevor, I got my SD 6200 for $550 USD delivered but Im still waiting on it as it was shipped from LA. I have been told that it is a vast improvement relating to jaggies over the 3109 (?) PS player. It also does 3-2 pull down although I dont really know what that means :).
Heather got back into town last night. the kids kept hugging me and saying "its good to be back and hug you Daddy" (It made me all soft and mushy inside).
Hoping everybody has a great day,
Gregg

Finally ordered my Avia this morning from Amazon, and yes Lex, I used your click through! ;)
Now I need to run to Radio Shack at lunch to pick up a SPL meter. Can anyone think of anything else I will need??

Trevor,
You are right the Sony does list at $2499.00 Cdn. Not that price means anything. ;)
Lex,
I hope the wheels don't fall off after two years but, I have had a Pana A110 (wheels fell off in two months :( ) Then, I went to a Pana A310 wheels fell of in two month increments. :( After four trips for warranty service it seems to still be working but, doesn't get too much use in my upstairs HT. I will agree that the Sony 7700 has a little softer picture than some of the other players but, with 119" dia screen this can actually be a benefit to the motion artifacts and jaggies that other player will introduce to the big picture. I always find the description of "Soft" to be very subjective.
Joey,
I'm sure that you can have someone replace the screen for you. Check with a Phillips service center.
Bing,
Thanks for putting out a flippin bounty!! :B
Pat,
Let it Snow! :)
Mats,
Very funny!!!! What's on the menu for tommorow?
Greg,
Can anyone think of anything else I will need??
The remote! An hour! A tall cool one! :)
Oh....yeah! I also find it makes it alot easier if you have a tripod to put the SPL meter in the main sitting position.

Gregg,
Well the size of the scratch has been debated between Mandi and I. I was really pissed at myelf when I scratched it so she went to go see and couldn't find it. I, on the other hand, can see it plain as day. It's right there, a huge mountain of defectivity (there's the made-up-word for the day), staring me in the face.
It's about the size of a pin-head (no, I'm not referring to Andrew Pratt, heh), you know, the ones with the ball at the end? It's the size of that ball. But it's ugly as hell, and it's in a bad spot, and so my desire to use my Pronto is definitely dwindling. I was hoping there was some sort of replacement screen or something.
BTW, I'm afraid that if I were to use sand paper the results would be devistating. I'm not all that handy with the tools, heh. I'd probably strike battery eventually ;)
PS Gregg, did those MP3s make it to you on time?
Rick,
Have you use that before? I'd be interested in trying if it will work :) Thanks for the link!

Joey,
We use this stuff for our face shields on our snowmobile helmets. It does work very well for that but, I'm not sure if there is some special coating on the Pronto that could be damaged by a scratch remover type product.

Joey Millison
11-14-2000, 01:31 PM
From Pronto's site:
The touch screen on the Pronto is very resilient and stable, that is, unless your stupid enough to take an exacto knife to it, in which case you deserve whatever you get; however you should take normal precautions with its use. Always tap the surface gently using your finger or a blunt object such as the eraser end of a pencil or the cap of a pen. Also, liquids spilled onto the LCD display can cause serious harm to the unit. Exercise normal caution when liquids are nearby. The LCD screen should be cleaned with a soft cloth. No abrasives or cleaning solutions should be used.
Ok, so I added the part about the exacto blade ;) It states that no liquids should come in contact with the screen. Would that include polish do you think? Dang it! Still looking around though...
Joey Millison
11-14-2000, 01:35 PM
This warranty will not cover issues where neglect or misuse are involved.
Define misuse...it's not, oh say, taking an extremely sharp blade to the touch screen is it?
Joey Millison
11-14-2000, 01:44 PM
For the low low price of $150 I can have it repaired I was told. Eegads!
Me: "Yes, I have a Pronto that I purchased and something abrasive came in contact with its touchscreen."
Philips Tech: "Sir, can you define abrasive?"
(I really wanted to make him laugh so I could get him in a good mood and maybe get a charity replacement, so I almost said, "Yes I sure can. Abrasive; a) causing abrasion. b) causing irritation." But I didn't want him to think I was mocking him, heh.)
Me: "Well, not so much abrasive as, say, razor sharp really..."
Philips Tech: "Razor sharp sir? Like a knife?"
Me: "Yeah, something like that..."
He was pretty quiet for a few seconds, perhaps trying to stifle a laugh. I thought I'd get points for creativity and they'd repair it for free, no such luck though :B He didn't grab my name though, maybe I can call back and say it came like that ;)

Sorry, I thought you had already purchased one or I would have said something earlier :) Yeah, an SPL meter + Avia = great balanced sound! You may be shocked to hear the results.
When I calibrated my set last year I was shocked after it was complete. It looked dark and wierd. But once I got used to it I realized it actually looked better. So if it seems too dark when you're done give it a few days and watch a few movies, and see how it goes :)
Thank for the tips Andrew, at this point it looks like I'm screwed :(
I'm going to have to get my Toshiba ISF calibrated again after I move, aren't I?

Joey, once again you have placed us right in the action better than any HT can. That was too funny (not really in a serious sense) your conversation with the Tech. Uhmm do you guys cover xacto blade cleaning? Sorry , but Andrew pretty much laided it on the line.
That polish Rick mentions is good stuff, as I have used it before. The problem may be that it will be hard to match that matt texture of the pronto, unless you polish the whole surface. Otherwise you'll just get a nice polish spot in the area you are trying to fix. So to get a smooth, consistant surface, you will neet to polish the whole area, and you know what that means if you want to do it right? That's right, you will have to take it apart so you can polish the surface close to, and under the case, Bummer... :( If it's the size of a pin head, it may be one of those things you get over, in time. It's just that it's so fresh at this time, of course it's going to piss ya off. Maybe give it some time.
Nice flip by the way, finally! :)

Does anybody remember how to calculate the amount of video ram needed to display a certain colour depth? This is for the laptop and I'm wondering if I really need 16Megs or will 8Megs do me fine. And the specs from the Canadian site and the US site differ a slight bit.
Oh, and does anybody have any recomendations as to how to clean off a melted cd on a stove element and on the bottom of a pot?

paul hmmm I can look up that video info if someone doesnt' post it out right. As for the CD...I'd just replace the whole unit since it should be cheap and you'll have a hard time cleaning melted plastic off an element...every time you turn it on its going to reak!
Okay Paul here ya go
640 * 480 4 bit = 521K
640 * 480 8 bit = 512K
640 * 480 16 bit = 1 meg
640 * 480 24 bit = 2 meg
800 * 600 4 bit = 512K
800 * 600 8 bit = 1 meg
800 * 600 16 bit = 2 meg
800 * 600 24 bit = 2 meg
1024 * 768 4 bit = 1 meg
1024 * 768 8 bit = 1 meg
1024 * 768 16 bit = 2 meg
1024 * 768 24 bit = 4 meg
1280 * 1024 4 bit = 1 meg
1280 * 1024 8 bit = 2 meg
1280 * 1024 16 bit = 4 meg
1280 * 1024 24 bit = 4 meg
1600 * 1200 4 bit = 2 meg
1600 * 1200 8 bit = 2 meg
1600 * 1200 16 bit = 4 meg
1600 * 1200 24 bit = 8 meg
Colour depth is directly related to the number of bits used to compose one pixel and can be 4, 6,16 ,24 bits per pixel (we can now get 32) To determine the number of colours that can be represented by these nuber of bits use the number of bits as the power of the number 2. For example 4 bits per pixel is 2^4 or 16 colours. To determine the amount of RAM needed for one frame buffer, multiply the number of bits per pixel times the number of pixels on the screen giving the total number of bits per screen. Divide the number of bits by 8 to determine the number of bytes or RAM needed for the buffer. For example for a screen res. of 1024 * 768 and 256 colours the above table shows we need 1 meg.
The number of pixels for one fram buffer is 1024 *768 = 786432 pixels
for 256 colours you need an 8 bit colour depth or 8 bits per pixel so 786432/8bits/pixel = 6291456 bits.
6291456 bits divided by 8 bits per byte gives you 786432 bytes.
Since 1 meg of ram = 1024000 bytes you need 1 meg of RAM
Simple Eh! I copied this from my A+ text BTW

My english teacher FINALLY gave us our grades back, and my 3 mains papers I'm getting graded on are as follows:
1st Paper: A
2nd Paper: A
3rd Paper: A-
Have one more paper to write that my grade will be based off of, and then I have the opportunity to drop the lowest grade so it won't be factored in :) So I may have an 'A' in english it looks like! :) I'm going to have to ask my parents to sit down before I give them the news!
For the first time since elementary school I have straight 'A's!!! :) :) :)

Hey Boys!!
Dan,,Glad you had a good trip..What were some of the highlights? I have a A.E.Titan DVD on the way courtesy of Jay.:)
Jeff,,Thanks for the write-ups on the DVD players..I don't care for the Jaggies myself, plus they can be magnified on the 61" screen. Obi wrote a reveiw between the DV-37 and the SD-6200 as he was able to compare both models. In the end he chose the 6200..so the artifacts couldn't be too bad as I know that Obi is not to keen on the interline flicker thing. Maybe the 9200 has an even better picture...The SD-9200 does playback DVD audio capabilities,,is this the same as the Sony's Super audio.??
Gregg,,Did you get the RPTV??..Thats a heck of a price on the SD-6200 as it is listed at $1,200 U.S.
Joey,,Great grades..So who put the hole in your Pronto??..Was it the Fish?:)..Nice Flip!!
Pat,,Snow's a good thing!!
Greg,,Have fun calibrating..Your system will sound much better.
Paul,,Go with the 16 meg, I think that is a new size video chip for a laptop..8 megs was currently the largest. With 16 megs you can't go wrong,,You may never know what will come out that may need it..Its better to have it than not..remember these chips are intergrated so you can't upgrade later. My VAIO has only 2 megs of video which is largely the reason of its slow performance.
Bing,,Hey dude!!:)
Lexman,,Let me know when you sell your SD9000.
Rick,,Where in the heck are you getting the Sony at such a rock bottom price??
Andrew,,I am still drooling from the pics of your new speakers. So Cool!!

Trev: so did you decide to go with the 9200? If you intend to stay with your TV for a while, I think (IMHO) you would be better off with a Sony or Pioneer for the downconversion reasons mentioned before. However, if you switch to a widescreen set this will not be a problem as the Toshiba's are excellent performers. I have a 6200 myself and am keenly awaiting some reviews of the 9000ES as well as 9200 to see what sort of performance increases they offer over present generation progressive-scan players. Still holding out for a player which can deliver a reasonable scaling solution for non-enhanced discs but we shall see...

Hi folks! I have a Best Buy story for you (from a friend, I only buy DVDs there)...
Anyhow, he was at the local Best Buy yesterday and he overheard one of the sales drones talking to a customer who was looking at a Sony big screen TV. The drone told the guy not to buy an expensive Sony or Mitsubishi, to go for the cheaper Toshiba instead. Why? According to this guy, there are only two companies that actually make big screen TVs and all the other companies put their names on them. Sony, Toshiba and Mits TVs are made by the same company, so if you buy a Toshiba, you get the same thing as the Sony for less $$!
I just about choked when I heard this story! ;)

If I throw out some artwork will you guys help me make sure everything will work in there? :) I'm still trying to get American Furniture Warehouse to give me the measurements of the furniture I want, so it may be later on today. Anyone wanna assist though, since I'm new in the art of accoustics? :)

Wow, I did not know that! Another fun fact from Best Buy ;) The seem to be full of information (or shit, as I like to call it, heh) that a lot of people wouldn't normally know. (like Bose speakers are the Ultimate...I repeat...ULTIMATE in home theater speakers...Sorry Tom, going to see my speakers you made for me and use that money for some Bose!)

Trev, there are 2 competing formats for multi-channel music audio:
SACD - I think this is the Sony Super Audio CD format.
DVD-A - this is the DVD Audio format.
They are not compatible, and I think it's a case of VHS vs. Beta. We just don't know who will win, SACD or DVD-A. I would like to see DVD-A win. There might be a few players that will be able to play both formats, but they will be initially expensive.
Happy Birthday! I lost track of who was getting the cake(s)!?!
Sunosub III is coming along, starting painting the bottom endcap last night. I have all of next week off, so if the drivers show up, I'll have something to do. :D
I'm still envious of the HTFers that got their X-Men DVD signed by both Bryan Singer and Stan "The Man" Lee.

Kev, you have to turn a blind eye or be ready to be consisdered a trouble maker in those stores.
I was at Future Shop and the same thin happened over a DVD, I was helping an aquaintance I met in the store. Well you could tell the sales person was getting all choked. I left it at my best recommedations and pushed it no further.
I was once booted out of a Bicycle store in town for helping a friend in buying a bike. I ran in to him while looking around. He was looking for a bike and the sales guy was trying to push ther house Gas Pipe Special on to him. I never told my friend not to buy it, I just educated him on what to look for at certain price points. ie.@ $500 look for aluminum rims, CrMo steel tube, forged drop outs..etc. Upon educating my friend, he asked critical questions about the models being presented to him. Well the sale person went to see his manager and I was soon punted out as a trouble maker. Ah well! I never liked that store anyways, the have been known to put CrMo stickers on Hi-tensile (Gas Pipe)frames, very unscrupulous. And wouldn't you know, these guys were out of business in a few short years.

wow you guys have been busy lately three pages! Sorry I missed your birthday Bing. Nice flips Rick and Joey.
Trevor Obi's review of the tosh player was done on his widescreen set so downconversion wasn't an issue on all 4:3 screens it will be no matter how high end the tosh player is they all use the same algorthim for downconversion (which sucks IMO) Given the choice I'd go either the Sony or the Pioneer.

Looks like we're picking up speed.
Thanks Andrew for the list and how to calc. So is the LCD on the 8000 can only display 1400x1050 and let's say running 32 bit colour, it would need: 1400x1050x32 / 8 or 5,880,000 bytes or video ram to display 32bit colour depth. Even if I output to an external monitor, the card can only supports 1600x1400 resolutions and at 32bit colour this works out to 7,680,000 bytes. So an 8 meg card should be fine? Unless 3d gaming comes into the picture, which really won't as my wife will not have any 3d type games on the machine. So when watching a DVD, I would say that's just a 2d type application? And therefore an 8meg card will be more than enough. Then again, having 16 megs would be pretty cool.
Trev, I think you'll have to go down south to get a Tosh 9200, I don't think they are available in Can. Oh and I could also go with 32 megs for the video card.
Bing, didn't have a chance at work yesterday to look at them, and at home the pics are just too big. Am going through them now...pics are still loading....Happy B-day. Ah, another bike story. :) Here's one, the bike store I worked at was just 2 blocks away from the competition. The competition was more of a mass market/high volume sales type operation, we were more mid to high-end. Anyway, one day a customer rolls in and litereally was on a test ride on one of the models from the competition! We always get the ususal, why are your models so much more expensive? Well, let's compare, mismatched components on the other bike, cheaper rims, only one tube cro-mo, and setup is important as well, loose headset, and factory vasiline in the bearings. In the end, I don't think the guy came back to buy from us.
Rick off on another flippin rampage, cool gifs/smilies/images. Nice Christmas tree!
Joey, I swear everybody has that same phone! So I guess maybe a NT Meridian group should be started. Yeah, we all have a little J6P in all of us, ended up buying a new element. Just wanted to make ya feel better. Though I don't have any HT related stories, yet. Great marks, and sucking up to the prof before hand comes in handy. Nice flip.

Joey, got the message via voice. :) Thanks for the update. So how big was that scratch on your pronto? Man that must really suck. I bet it looks like the Grand Canyon to you. So they say $150 for a new screen? Are they easy to install? What if you muck it up, then you'd be totally screwed. Might as well buy a new pronto, there's a great price going on at Mercarta. So for the price of a new screen, you can get a whole new pronto! Then you can sell off that scratched one.
Andrew, I'm working on Joey. :) Noticed the shipping to Canada was really cheap. Don't know what I would be dinged for brokerage and customes.

Hey Guys, My Birthday? Really you shouldn't have, Thanks :)
Pl@ yours was worse, before I was told I didn't look a year older than 39 :)
Paul, What shop did you work at in Van? One of my most memorable visits was to La Bicicletta many years ago. I walked in and they had tons of Italian frames hanging from the ceiling as well as many fully equiped bikes on the floor. In the back there was a group of people rambling on in Italian. It was totally immersive and I truly felt as i had visited the origins of cycling. This was in 1988 and I remember there was nary a Shimano component to be found in that store. times have changed though....
Daniel, Glad to here you walked away with lots of goodies.
Andrew, Were you able to find that Perfect Vision magazine?

I may have solved my PC woes...
My PC was starting to lock up while doing anything graphics related. Most times it was while running Netscape. Well, after loading the latest drivers, windows updates and doing a bunch of regestry sweeps, to no avail, I pulled the graphics card last night. The fan and heat sink was Gummed up with a lot of dirt and dust that was not allowing the chip to dissapate heat. After cleaning this it seems to be running fine again.
I have been told the Matrox G400Max is aready heavily overclocked and seeing as my frontside bus is overclocked as well, the card must have really been on the hairy edge. Not being cool enough was most likely wigging it out. :)

Bing, I've worked at a few stores. At the time of the story I was at West Point in Kerrisdale, but have put stints in at other West Point stores, namely Bikes On Broadway, Bayshore Bikes, and at the main West Point on 10th ave. I finished my bike stint at The Bike Cellar. Here's another funny storey, my first week working at The Bike Cellar, I go to answer the phone and say, "Hello West Point Cycle," and the owner of the store was standing right next to me. :oh:
Back during the summer of 88, I was moving from the Broadway store and the Bayshore. La Bicicletta, yes, one of the last bastions of European equipment. Lots of cool stuff there. Always dreamed of owning one of those Cinneli TT bikes. I remember the Campag Record Groupo on the wall. Back when click shifting was considered the wimpy way to shift. :) Wasn't a 6 speed cluster about as big as you can go? What's it nowdays? I think I heard 9 speed clusters are out!
Been reading up on the graphics stuff, and I'm pretty sure I'll be going for the 16 meg card.

Ah, I have been to most of those shops Paul, as I made it my mission when ever I visited a different town to go and pick up local shops logo shirts or bottles..etc.
Funny situation Paul, so did the manager say anything to you about the error?
I have always coveted a Cinelli record, or Colonago Master... One of these days, when I can stop buying electronics ;)
About a year ago I came across a Rossin Ghibli with full Record parts, Rossin engraved, cherry condition... Sweeet! It was on consignment for $1200.00 That's right $1200.00, this was a $5K bike new. Alas it was a 50Cm frame. I ride a 52cm-54cm. I thought of buying it just for the parts, but then the cranks(167mm) and stem would have been too short, you and I know the Frame and the cranks are the single most expensive parts for the bike. Bummer.... :(
Dura Ace is currently at a 9 speed hub, Campy has a 10 speed hub on their record group. My Dura Ace set is the 8 speed hub.

Bing, I used to try and make my parents take me to local bike shops when we were on vacation. Although we never really made it to one. Wait a sec, there was one road trip that turned out pretty good. Picked up a set of Look clipless pedals in LA, bought a pair of Sidi cycling shoes in Portland. The shoes were stolen from the car that afternoon, but the store put out an APB. About 2 weeks later, I got a package with my shoes. :) Apparently the theives went to another store to try and exchange, the sales guy held onto them and started asking a bunch of questions, and the lady just took off. Unfortunately, some of the other stuff never got recovered.
The manager/owner was okay, I went oops, old habit. :) We both had a good laugh, maybe cause his name was Paul as well. So I became Paul Jr.
Man, that would have been a sweet deal if it fit. A 50cm with 167mm cranks? man thats short! Must have been a real tiny person. I don't need any more parts. :) I've got rims, hubs and BB's, wheels and tubulars still sitting at my parents. hmm, 9/10 speed clusters...Must resist...
Here's a Canadian deal on Gladiator, but it's pretty limited geography wise. First you must have a London Drugs store around, if you don't know what store that is, then you don't have one around. Anyway, they've got a gift catalog out and on page 74 they list Gladiator at $21.99. So you take that ad to Futureshop and get them to price beat it, and since Futureshop is pricing it at $26.99, you should get $5.50 off the price, or $21.49. If you happen to get a really good, read new, register person, you may be able to get the price down to $16.49. :) It all depends on what they enter into the computer.

Rick, they say you are only as old as you feel.... Bullshit! I truely act and feel 25 inside, but when I look in the mirror, I'ze looks 40!
Paul, what a terrible thing to have happen. if your anything like me, things like that are things that are the bounty of the holiday, and then somebody puts the grip on it.... Time to institute Caning!
Actually a 50Cm is a small frame as well. My standard frame size is a 54, but I ride a 52 with 170mm cranks for the stiffness, I'm 5'11 with a 32" inseam.
For MTB, my frame size should be a 18.5' but my choice ride is a 17.5" with a radical sloping top tube(= to a 13") for that very important crotch clearance :E :E
Mmmmm....Sidi's, Tubulars, Radial lacing....

I sent you an e-mail Rick.
Paul,,Good choice in going with the 16 megs of Ram..if a 32 meg video chip is available in a laptop,I would go that way then..It would be worth it down the road.
Bing,,We can plan for a Friday meet. Today was a bummer as I had to go in to work after a phone call I received..So the whole day's planned activities had to get changed.
So whats better..DVD Audio or the Sony SACD(spell?)..I don't listen to music much anyways ,,just the 80's collection,so these audio formats may not really matter to me when I make a final decision on a player.
My DVD player is ready to be picked up tomorrow..$94 for the Firmware upgrade.

I'm not sure which is better, but from my take on it, Audio DVD material is very much non-esistant or hard to come by. SACD is more plentyfull, though I have not yet seen a disk in Toon town.
Paul, I have never rode tubulars, but had the choice of those or clinchers at the time of purchase of my last ride. I took clinchers for the performance gap was narrowing and for the ease of patching. Though I like the fact that most tubulars can be pumped up to 200psi for the ultmate lowest rolling resistance, forget about cornering and ride quality :B and look out if a pebble get's launched from under the tire LOL

Cable can have a higher total bandwidth, but is limited by how many useres are on line. ADSL is a more consistant performer as long as you are with in 7km of the substation.

Bing, my road bike's a 52 with 170mm cranks and I'm about 5'8" with a 30" inseam, so that fits me quite nicely. Got a 11cm stem on that sucker. My MTB is an old Rocky Mtn Blizard. It's effectively a 16.5" fram, but has a radical slope! Yes that clearance is mucho importante! I don't need no stinking suspension! I picked tubs for the coolness and the performance. Only thing I noticed was that they naturally leaked, ie pumped to 120psi and a week later was down to around 80psi. These were Vitoria Corsa CX's, had some Wolber SP1's but never rode on them. I'm so pathetic.
Trev, yes the 32 meg is only an extra $150 over the 16 meg version. Although if I add it, it will push it past the 3K price point before ship and taxes. Oh and get this, the free promo now is one year free internet access through AOL! :P ThomasW is extreamly happy with SACD, plus there's software available now, where DVD-A is ?? Nice flip. Way to distract Bing.

1. Bose don't suck?
2. Speaker wire makes a difference.

Lex, EX.... Atta boy Doug! So is it essentially the same as all the other EX's?
Paul, no way! A bizzard, like as in the black and white model?
I have a Rocky Mountain Wedge, which is like brothers to the Blizzard, Both custom built right there in Vancouver..... WAY COOL
It has the custom 7 color splatter paint on Black that Rocky did for this model only. it was hand built by Lance Bolen, Now CEO, himself! These models of MTB were way ahead of their time, how many have the radical sloping top tube now, "everyone"! I have been able to update mine preety much along the way. I still have the barny ruble shifters, but I don't mind them, at least i can shift the range of 7 cogs in one deft move, unlike my pedestian Karakorum with the STI shifters that takes two. I have a Rock Shox Judy SL, and bits of Titanium every where ie. bottom bracket, bolts, etc, it was my money pit for quite a few years, but it certainly owes me nothing. for it has seen a lot of trail time and given me the good pleasure value.
We truley are soul brothers :D
Those Tubular leaked because most of the good ones used latex tubes for their suppulness. Latex does not hold air as long as butyle tubes due to the porosity of the latex.

Bing, the one and only, was thinking of getting an Avalanche at the time, but found out I could get a 'Pro' deal straight through Rocky through the Point. So for the same price, I snagged the last 16" in stock. Basic black and white, with splatters of white on grey for my rear stays. These still had the infamous, U brakes front and rear. Deore XT through out. Got some Synchros bar ends and seat post right away. I ended up getting a custom bar and stem job from a friend, swapped my shifters around so I had underbar shifting. At the time, the Blizards were hand done in Japan. Only the Thuderbolt was custom built in Richmond, but my wheels were hand done.
Yes, we must be soul mates. :) Oh, I think you'll love this story. While working at the shop, I got to go to the sports trade show in September. Got to see all the new bike lines for the next year. Rocky had their own room at a hotel, so we got a nice sneak peak at their new products. :) A mechanic and I test rode a couple of bikes that night. That was so much fun.

Lex,
You'll have to give us your impression's on the EX vs Logic 7 when you get more time to compare the two formats. The new Denon 5800 that I'm using as a processor has added a new dimension to the HT. I really enjoy the new discrete and matrix sound for the rear back channel.

Rick, do you have ICQ? I have a question for ya :)
Bing,
You're on my shit list! ;) Here I am, last night, having an argument with Mandi. And my computer happens to be on, and on the TTP no less. I'm just kind of scrolling, not really reading, while I'm being talked to (it all started because she had to do homework so I went in my room to watch a movie, that I guess she had wanted to watch with me, so she was upset about it), and all of a sudden I see this animated image of an alien doing Karate. I try my absolute best not to laugh, and ALMOST was able to, until it came bursting out.
As you can imagine, when your SO is talking to you in a serious tone and you start laughing, well...let's just say it didn't help my cause any. Which prolonged our chat for another 10 minutes...I guess you could say we had the director's cut of an argument ;)
So thanks alot BING ;)

Is it me or is this flipping thing starting to get out of hand... AGAIN!!?? ;) Every time I jump in there's another page to read. Thank goodness for Stealth Browsing Technology, Patent Pending, (C)(R) 2000 Kevin P. :B
I haven't flipped the page since the TTP was in the Testing area of the HTF. But then the flips weren't nearly as competitive back then. How I long for the good ol' days.. ;)

I think the flipping is okay so long as we're not running from post 12 to get to 35 just for a flip. I will agree though that 35 posts per page may be to short for the TTP:)

Maybe we need a flip filter, where when browsing a thread any posts that exist solely for flipping or running toward a flip are filtered out. With that the entire TTP could fit onto just a couple of pages! :B
I might make some tweaks to my Stealth proxy to do just that. Granted, I'll only see 2-3 posts per page that way, but it'll save wear and tear on my mouse scroll wheel. ;)
So, how many posts/pages are we shooting for? I know on HTF a TTP would quit around 200 posts and we'd start another one. If someone archives this thread, it might be a good idea to filter out the flip-only posts.

I just set up my filter to cut out anti-flipping posts. :B ;)
I feel that I've made new friends here on the TTP, and the "flip" thing is one of the fun things about the TTP. The other sites that I'm involved with are sometimes way too serious. I hope I'm not, and, in no way want too piss anyone off by what I'm saying here since I was not apart of the old TTP site. But, I think this is a really good group of people here and I really enjoy being here flippin away some of the daily stress in my life. Let the flip live on....with discretion. :)

Kevin, so what is it you do again? I thought you were a number cruncher, sounds like you can program a filter to filter out anything you want. Must come in handy. I think we originally thought that 1000 posts and then start again, but wasn't it Lex or Mat that said the load wasn't that great on the server and they'd like to see this go on. :) Well I'm sure we can go on forever. Rember DO NOT try the 'View All' feature on this thread.
I archived the previous TTP's from Chap 3 to the last one. I think part of the fun is the flipping off and now I think more importantly, the sniping of the flip. It is no longer enough to flip, but I think if you can snipe somebody going for a flip, you defenitely get more points.
Rick, well said, and we welcome any and all to participate. I think I saw a Jeff a couple of pages ago.

Titan certainly rocked.. I posted a short review over at HTF a couple weeks ago and it seems more and more people are enjoying this gem.
Been a little sick over the last couple of days.. flu/cough, had a chance to catch up on some DVDs though. Took a look at North By Northwest last night - beautiful restoration work by WB, and a great classic to boot.
Those Mercata deals are *hot*, pity I am not a new customer else I would be forced to pick up a Pronto at the prices it is going at now... Still waiting for the Fantasia Anthology....
I think the flipin' is fun...Mats should take the numbers off of the posts though, so you at least have to figure out when the flip is pending:)

Hey LB, where ya been? Haven't seen or hear from you since, what, the air show?
Okay, my wife's got the cpu loan funds and I've already made a call to Dell to "reserve" a system. It'll be the Inspiron 8000 laptop with a Cel600, 128M ram, 32M video, 14" TFT screen, DVD, etc. Now talking to the sales guy on the phone, he's trying to sell me on the extra $200 complete care. This is one of those exteneded warranties, but for a laptop, might be worth it. It is supposed to cover any accidental damage, including the screen, spills on the keyboard, and drops from the desk. Of course they will try and diagnose and send part to get it fixed, but if not, they will "replace" it. This lasts for 3 years. The basic warranty is a 3 year next business day on site. I kinda went over on the 32 meg card :) so adding another $200 to the mix is getting expensive. So all opinions welcome.

Paul - I would have to say no on the extended warranty. The standard as you mentioned is next business day, and that is quite a lot of warranty. I have the standard Dell warranty, and have had a keyboard key quit working, next day a UPS guy walks up to my door with a new keyboard.
Same thing on a mouse, the left clicker quit clicking, so I thought I would call to see if it was covered, took two days that time, but still a mouse was delivered, free of charge.
Now unless you are real clumsy (no offense J6P), I don't think you will drop it into the tub or let hot glue drip on the screen, ;) so I would just stick with the standard options.
Load it out with all the extras, and you'll be happier that way than with a $200 insurance policy.

Pl@, $240 Canadian. Or about $160 us.
So far so good, but it sure has a lot of control. I may have really mess up my room response.
If you remember, my sub was very flat at the 1 meter and the near feild test as well. Well the in room sitting position had a peak at 25 and a dip at 50. I don't own a SPL meter so all I did was boost and cut the sections in the graph to sorta be flat at 90dB. I know this isn't the proper way, but thats all I have now until, I get a SPL meter. Previously, I borrowed one, as I'm waiting for the digital to go on sale. http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/fung1/inroom.jpg
Go Here For Near Feild & 1 Meter response (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/byfung?d&.flabel=fld5&.src=ph)
Pl@, at this point I would say it is well worth the price for what it can do. It will boost +16dB or cut -48dB.
It is a very nice looking unit but I'm not sure if i like the look of it in my rack, it's kinda loud looking, I wish I could dim the LED's. I may strap this to the back of my sub so it is less obtrusive.
It seems very well made and the tactility of it feels very high quality.

Actually, I do need someone to order one shirt to see what the quality is like, to see if it's worth it.
Here's the deal though:
The company that makes these shirts charges a base fee, and you can change the prices above the base fee to make a profit. I didn't do that, I left everything at base fee so that I won't make a single dime off of anything sold, so that it keeps costs down to the exact minimum.
I'm going to be changing them, so that there are some cool shirts. I just used the same few patterns over and over to see what each looked like, but I can change them within a few seconds if need be. Does everyone like the logo for the most part though? That's what we have to decide on first, a TTP logo that everyone likes :)
After that I can spruce up each shirt a bit and make them look a little more professional :) Who wants to order one shirt though and give their "review" on the quality? :)
Glad you guys like them. I hadn't done anything for everyone in the TTP in a while and wanted to make another contribution :)
The company ships them and everything, so it should be a pretty easy and quick proces to get shirts.
So, who wants to test one out? :)

Greg, checked out your tree farm site...very nice.
The only thing I noticed was the midi is very quiet and has a lot of background hiss and static.
I had to turn up the volume a lot higher than normal to hear that there was any music at all.
Just thought you would want to know...

Kevin, what type of bandwidth should I set my filters to? 30-1/60, 60-1/60 120-1/60 I don't understand this, yet....The bandwidth controls the range of frequencies that the filter cuts or boosts. I think it's measured in 1/60 of an octave (octave being a doubling in frequency, say, 30-60 hz, 60-120 hz, etc.) If you set it to 1, the filter will be narrow banded--its boost or cut is sharp at the filter's frequency and slopes off quickly above and below the frequency. If you set it higher, the bandwidth increases. I set mine based on trial and error--I had a hump at 50hz for example, so I set one filter with a relatively wide bandwidth (say 5-6 on the BFD) to cover most of the hump, and set a couple of narrow band filters to deal with specific trouble spots.
Feel free to play with the filters to get a feel for how they work. For example, as a test, set up a filter with a -12db cut at 60hz, with the bandwidth set at 1. Run a frequency sweep (such as the one on Avia) and listen to it, and you'll hear the sound drop off suddenly around 60hz and come right back. Widen the bandwidth (say to 6) and the drop off will be "wider", dropping off say at 65hz and coming back at 55hz.
Holy speaker thump on power up or down.. It this normal Kev? Do you just leave it powered on?Mine does this too. This is common for pro gear (my Peavey amp thumps too). I always turn the BFD on before the amp, and shut it off after shutting off the amp. Then the thump doesn't reach the sub.
Hope this helps... the best thing to do is play around with it. If you get something you like, save it as one of the presets and then you can get it back. Then if you play around and get lost, you can just dial in your preset and bring everything back again.

Morning all!
Joey, I like the logo, and I feel we should pay some lip service to HTguide, seeing as it is our pub house :) Get with Mats and see what you boys come up with. These are excellent Joey, you should never feel as if you have to do anything for the TTP, other than be here. its very appreciated though :B
Greg, It's fine. I never knew it was loading a midi for my speakers were turned down, I just thought it was apage lag for no reason (duuh). it takes about 4-5 seconds to load, seeing as you have 2 pages, I wouldn't change it. You have the right level of volume set on the midi, it not too loud to be obtrusive, yet corresponds well with the feeling and ambience of the farm.
Great job!

J6P, you've outdone yourself! It looks like you should get orders from me, Bing and Trev for the grey t-shirt because our posts are depicted on the backside of the t-shirt. :D I just placed my order for the grey t-shirt.
I would offer a suggestion: Could you put the TTP2000 logo on the front side of the sweat shirt? I would buy one if I could proudly display that TTP2000 logo on my chest.
Thanks for going the extra mile for us, buddy!

Nice flipper!
Bing,
I'm very interested in results you get from your testing. Did you buy this in Canada? I have 2-(SVS 20-39's and have a large dip in my room at 50hz. Why are you waiting for the digital SPL? I think the analog one is probably better for what were doing in our HT's, IMO.
Joey,
That's great stuff you've come up with. http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net7/biggthumpup.gif I can see it NOW! Dear what the hell is a TTP? :? :B
I like the first one since there is a reference to the site.

So I placed the laptop order last night. Now I have to wait for 10 business days before it arrives!
Say could I share the dvd drive over a home network? I probably could, but would the performance be acceptable?

Hi Guys!!,,
Still not feeling that great.Stayed at home again today,,Actually just got out of bed...Bing we will have to have the get together another time.
Joey,,Good job on the T-shirts,Mugs,and Mouse Pad.
When did you start planning this as it seemed to come up so sudden..Did I miss something..I like the idea of HTG logo incorporated into it.
Kudo's to Lexman for hosting the TTP.
As for a date for the first TTP thread, I would have to say it originated either the end of March, beginning of April..whenever I started gumming up my posts with Smiley's as that is were I first tested them.
I missed the second discount on the Pronto..As Andrew said you can only use up to 20% of the bonus $..I didn't sign-up for the microsoft passport discount which would have been another 20%.I just jumped in there like a pig in mud and went and ordered the thing without reading or checking details. I already have a Pronto but ordered this one for my parents for Christmas. They have about 7 remotes sitting on the table right now..So it would be something they could appreciate.
Later.
PS..Bing,,Sorry.

I didn't wanna tell anyone until the last minute, as I wanted to completely surprise people :) I'm working on embriodered TTP shirts and "hoody" sweatshirts as well possibly. After I find out prices or what-not I'll post and see who's interested. Until then I'll make sure to have some cool stuff available :) Sorry I don't have more :) But I'll try to come up with some cool designs :)
Hope you feel better soon!
