Here are my reviews for the 2 movies that opened this weekend:
Charlie's Angels:
Well, all I got to say is that it'll do boffo business at the box office this weekend. There were long lines of people waiting to get into the theater. There were lots of young girls (in groups) in attendence, so the marketing worked. Girls want to see women on film kicking butt.
The film itself: I give it 2.5 out of 4 stars.
As Nick pointed out, I think Drew Barrymore is the weak link in the line-up. She's the least credible, but it was fun to watch Drew "trampoline-jump-kick" her way out of the clutches of the bad guys. But being producer, I guess any sequel will have her in it again (sigh).
Lucy Liu was fine, and little on the dry side (perhaps that's how her character is, loved the dominatrix efficiency expert bit). I would not try her muffins though. :)
Cameron Diaz can do it all. She's just a joy to watch. She's got the "competent kick-ass" bimbo role down. She can do the physical comedy stuff and the fight sequences.
I hardly recognized Kelly Lynch (I liked since I saw her in, ahem, Roadhouse), but that was a plus.
Bill Murray as Bosley was okay, not as outlandish, but he did have one or two of his "Carl the greenskeeper" moments in the film. I thought it would have been funny if Murray would have worked in the Bosley accent.
At least they tried to have a little fun with what these Angels' personal lives would be in this line of work. And thank goodness we were treated to a quick recruitment "origin" flashback on how these "qualified" 3 Angels were. I do admit that their somewhat funny send-up to the Mission Impossible Langely break-in was an homage to MI. I somehow always cringe when I see Matt LeBlanc in film roles (I guess too much type-casting as Joey Tribiani for me).
The movie's about 90 minutes long and it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's worth a matinee viewing if you like to watch the principal actors on the big screen. But for those who don't want to keep their brains at the door, well, at least recognize it for what it is: a spoofy look at kick-butt female covert operatives who are competent and have a good time with their missions. It's not too grounded in reality, and doesn't expect the audience to think otherwise. So you can go fly with the Angels or stay grounded. Your choice. :)
---------
The Legend of Bagger Vance
It's weird, this movie was almost as long as a fast round of golf, and after seeing it, I think I'd rather be playing golf than watching this movie. It was just too uneven for me. The performances were fine, but it was just there, I didn't find the movie hitting that transcendental level it was aspiring to arrive at. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4 stars. It's worth a matinee viewing, but for many non-golfers, it might be a little too long and boring.
In golf scoring, this movie merits a bogey.

I got the MI:2 DVD yesterday, but haven't gotten around to watching it just. Will review when I get a chance.

Thanks for the Patrick and Ebert reveiws,,these will be good DVD's to rent.:)
Gregg,,be prepared for a long stay in L.A.,,Heather won't want you back. You will probably have to buy her something special just for her in return.;)
The Bryston amps tweaked my interest when I seen the AD in the newspaper, then did some research..The specs I turned up are correct. The amps are from the mid 80's and have been recondtioned by Bryston,,new faceplate, new switces and cords etc..$$800 for the 3B's each and $500 for each of the 2B's..Thats about 3K in total. I think it's to high for 17 year old reconditioned amps..I would probably want something new in a couple of months anyways.;)
Have the 'Patriot' DVD ready for a spin tonight if time permits.

Oh Lex, you should see the heat I get from the inhabitants of Movie Island on the HTF, I got voted off the island by a 6-to-1 margin in a recent poll, but it's a good thing I can swim. :D
Those folks just are too critical about light-heart movie fare. There's a snootiness about the "lesser" movies by some of the members over there, but I usually can find 1 or 2 redeeming qualitites from most movies. And I do call them like I see them.
So far, I think I'm the only one over there that has publicly stated that I really liked "Pay It Forward." Doh!

Hey Guys, Toon town is the same as Rick stated, roads are like Ice skating rinks. Went up to Cosco today at the edge of town, the wind was a brutal reminder of what we are in store for.
Good review Pl@, I can;t wait to see the show. that's my kinda movie!
Gregg hasn't told Heather cause he want's to be as far away as he can be(LA) when they deliver..... Great Thining Gregg, I may have to plan something on the same Line next time I get a big ticket "New Toy" :) "Hello, special delivery of a Porsche 996 for Bing Fung.... Sign here please Ms Fung"
Greg, watching all the same movies "Could be we are soul mates" I kinda liked that show and will purchase it to get the free DVD offer on U-571. October Sky is available for free, that's a good thing for around here they want +$35 for it.
Trev, You may be right on those Brystons. Save up for those Krell's or the 4B ST's :)
Let's get together this week ok? Give me a call or I'll call you tomorrow.
Rick, I only got off the sofa because my Sister had us over for turkey dinner, can't resist that, other wise it would have been sofa city all day!

No spoilers - but I am jazzed by the hunt for Mulder storyline this season for the X-Files. The addition of Robert Patrick as John Doggett was a good choice, he brings some intensity that was lacking before.
So...is Mulder the father of Scully's baby? Hmmm....

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO JOEY, for helping me configure my computer for burning CD MP3 discs. I made 2 CDs with a total of 23 music CDs on them. Put this together with the 3 CDs joey is sending me (to arrive today) and I will be in music heaven all week.
On Friday HTF meet people all go to Fox. We will be spending a 12 hour day there and seeing 2 movies. We have not been told of the first title, some say maybe Die Hard in DTS?? The second title is XMen. I am pumped, as I did not see xmen at the theater.
Take care and have a great week (I know I wll :))

Funny thing Rick, I invoke the same type response from Christine every time I mention something like that.
Though you could justify a Hummer for your business quite easily. Just place some nice company logo decals on it (small enough to not look garish, but big enough to be actual advertisement)and it becomes a rolling billboard for Snow West Distributing. That would look awesome rolling up to the racing events & poker rallys with a hummer and all your tricked out sleds in tow :E

My god, this week has started to be one of the worst of the year.
Yesterday was a real picnic. Mandi and I broke all records for the worlds longest argument. It was pretty brutal. I mean, there wasn't any yelling or anything like that, but there was a lot of me saying "Well fine then, how about we just break this whole thing off and go our seperate ways!" It's amazing what you'll resort to saying after five hours are arguing. We were pretty darn close to just ending it all, and the sad thing was I was to the point where it didn't really phase me at all. That's still how I feel today, I'm just kind of "hollow".
And of course today has to be a typical monday. I got my new software build and the idiot who pressed them all accidentally pressed an audio CD he was listening to. So I have this software that says it's what I'm testing, but it's an audio CD when you insert it into the drive. So there was a delay I didn't have time for, putting me behind schedule.
Then I go to get test cases and everyone shrugs, showing me that they have no freaking clue what's going on.
Then one of my testers' monitors fries and shoots smoke and a really bad smell into the lab.
My god.
So now we're moving in December, my roommates and I, into a house (which was a major part of the fight with Mandi). I have NO room left for any of my stuff, so we're getting a bigger place, a HOUSE, not an apartment. I will be staying there while I save money to get out of debt and actually save for a deposit on a house. After that who knows. This has been an incredibly bad week so far, and it's only monday.
It got to the point where I threw most of my home theater stuff in boxes, and am ready to move with or without the other two people. I left out my DVD player, TV, and speakers last night to watch a movie by myself and I watched 'The Patriot' for the first time. And, because of my mood, and I hate admitting this, but the part where the little girl says "I'll say anything you want, just please stay" made me actually break down into tears, literally. I'm not the "crying type" either. So that tells you how far I've been pushed lately.
I have a test tonight too, which I have yet to study for. I tried this morning but I don't have the capacity for it, so I'm not sure what's going to happen tonight. My head's not really in any of that right now.
Man, what a pain in the ass!

Joey, look on the bright side, you have a girlfriend to argue with, lol. I thought my Monday was bad. But when I argue, it's by myself, and those arguements aren't much fun at all!
Arguing is not the foundation of a successful relationship, but sometimes you can get past all that. My first wife and I did, but then it failed in the end anyway because I got "comfortable" with the relationship. Had I wined and dined her more, and just been a better soulmate, who knows, we might still be unhappy together today, lol.
Hang tough Joey, the sun shall shine again!
Damn you Andrew, I watched that flip last night, today, but just wasn't available come crunch time! I made up my mind, whoever got that flip was going to be terminated. What you think guys, is Andrew gone? lol.

It's really hard when things like this in life strike us down but, hold your head up and come out swinging (sort of speaking). Take it from a married man, that didn't get married till the mid thirties. If, you don't stand up for yourself now!!, it won't get any better if you get married. One day at a time, even though the days seem painful, be strong and hang in there. :)

Has anybody ever bought anything from Onvia.com? They're a Canadian online co and they've got some killer prices on Sony laptops. And that just happens to be my second question, how good are the Sony's? I'm looking at the Viao XG28 and the Viao F490. To give you some kind of idea on the pricing. Retail the XG28 goes for $4,800, but at Onvia it's only for $2,800! The F490 is $6,200 vs $2,750 at Onvia! Any other laptops worth looking at? Plus each comes with a dvd drive in them.

Quickie MI:2 DVD review:
For an action movie, there's pretty incredible stuff in it with the cinematic eye of John Woo at the helm of this film.
Don't expect an engaging movie, but a visceral one that does deliver on the action and stunt work.
Count me as impressed with the bonus material for this DVD too. And I now have more respect for Tom Cruise as a stunt man. :D
And no, I'm not bothered by the lack of a trailer, since I seen it way too many times to count.
The sound mix was okay, not overly bombastic. I thought the video was pretty good too.
If you like action movies, this ranks as a purchase.

Hey guys, how's it going?
I got my replacement Pronto yesterday, I loaded my CCF into it, so far so good. Hopefully it won't reboot at random like the old one did. Only time will tell.
Computers, laptops, etc. For desktops, I'm partial to Micron. For laptops, I don't know, since I can't afford one. But Dell and Toshiba seem to have nice ones. Don't know about Sony, but their reliability on other products is hit or miss (esp. receivers and TVs). I used to have a CTX laptop, talk about a POS. Their monitors and laptops are/were both crappy.
Otherwise, not much going on. Is everyone here going to vote today?

I voted today. It took over an hour. For some reason only the people with last names starting with L-Z showed up this morning. That line was 3 times as long was the A-K line, much to be consternation. Finally the election folks decided to move the L's and M's to the A-K line and the N-Z line then moved a little more quicker.

It's free from Yahoo, and it's actually pretty neat. And it should be free for everyone to call as it's an 800 number :) You might like my "greeting" as well :)
Dang, can't use 800 numbers from Switzerland :) and luckily not the 900 number either :B

Hello everybody..
Paul,,stay away from the Sony Laptop..I am a proud owner of one.I have had it for a couple of months now and would not recommend it. I guess that means I am not really a proud owner of it. Go with Dell..You can't go wrong..The only reason I bought the Sony was that I was able to get it from a family member for a good price + my old NAD DPL receiver...They are pretty handy though, even use it in the bedroom before going to bed sometime to check out whats happening here and at the HTF..Pretty sic..Hey!
Rick,,Krell gear..ready to upgrade already.:) I can't imagine paying 9K for an amp..Well maybe I can,but I would have to be single first.:)
Patrick,,I bought MI2 today,,hope I like it.I am a big fan of action movies to I am pretty confident I will enjoy it. I don't usually go out and buy something without renting it first.
Gregg,,Good Luck in LA..Say who is going to tend to the Forum with all the Admins gone on the trip. Could be an interesting week.
Bing,,This week will be tight for a get together but next week should be OK,,I should get some extra time off with the holiday in there.
Joey,,I didn't try your # yet ,but will soon..
Greg,,Congrats on becoming an old senior,,now Rick has some good company;)

Hmm, seems like the consesus here is to stay away from the Sony's. Well, I did some digging and those crazy prices were in US$, stupid cookie settings. :p: Anyway, I've been looking at the Dells as well, both the Inspiron 4000 and 3800. Really not much difference in price when spec'd the same. I'm looking at a PIII600, 128MB SDRam, with the DVD drive of course. :) Well this rig is for my wife as it's being bought through her plan and she's been using the original P100 we got back in 95. So it'll be a laptop first with a bit of DVD fun secondary. Plus I don't know if I'll even be let near it after I get it configured. ;)
Any other good contenders? I'm going to have to check locally as I'd like to buy something like this at a B&M. But I won't rule out Dell as it would be soo cool to get it shipped to work and I'll have to configure it for the next week.

Paul,,Dell has some models with huge 15" screens, this I would seriously consider since you are also looking at the inclusion of a DVD rom.. NOTE: beware of certain screen types. The screen on my Sony is the type were you actually have to face it in the center to see a clear picture. If you move a bit off to the side the screen becomes unreadable and blotchy. I have seen others where the screen is crisp and readable from all angles..Not sure of the terminology used for these different screens but be careful with which one you get.

Trev, both the Dell's are both 14" displays, plus they are TFT, or active matrix, that's the type to get. Sounds like your Sony is the dual scan, which is less bright and limited to viewing angles. There's a promo model 3800 with just a 12" screen that is priced right, but the drop in screen size make quite a difference.

Still Like you, I want to keep an open mind and I certainly do not want to miss out on the pre-order price if this driver is "the bomb" as it was hyped up to be.
Still, the modeled sim isn't even close, if it wasn't the much hyped, Stryke HE-15, I would have dropped this driver from consideration based on it's poor simulation plots. I need more data... or knowledge.
Andrew, I don't think a single stryke could compare to Trev's twin servo 15's... So let's you and I go visit Trev instead :B
MI-2 is great sensual grey matter material, though not for depth, but for Woo's stunning portrayal of every detail. I'm glad I picked up this disk. Also got Anna & the King as well as finally got around to getting MIB DTS, Think I would be watching those??? Naw, right now I'm watching Boyz N the Hood on Superstation in P/S :B I forgot how much I like this show!

It must be a bad day for forum administrators everywhere. I come in this morning and can't get into HTF, it seems to be AWOL. Then I go into HTT and there's NO posts in the main forum. I hope Mike Knapp keeps backups. :) I think HTGuide and HomeTheaterSpot are the only other ones I frequent that are still functioning this morning.
Now I know, if I can ever afford a laptop again, not to get a Sony (or a CTX, ick!). It'll probably be Dell or Toshiba for me, but I have to win the lottery first. Actually, I have a 12 year old Tandy Model 102 which still works great. So it only has a 8-line screen and 32K of memory, but it's been 1000 times more reliable than the CTX. And it runs for 20-30 hours on 4 AA batteries. Try to find a "modern" (as in juice guzzling) laptop that does that!
Otherwise, not much going on in my end of the world. And we still don't know which crook will be president yet.

Paul,
If you are considering the Dell for DVD movie play just a word of advice for you. There usaully is two types of decoding available for Dell, one is the hardware decoding the other is software decoding for the sound format. Dell prefer too sell the hardware type. I sent my first laptop back because they promised AC3 decoding. It did but, only two channel. The replacement came with PCMCIA card which, you can buy a dongle for so that you can output a digital signal through the optical output. This way you can have Dolbly Digital 5.1 and watch you movies on your laptop or RPTV/TV/Projector etc. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. :)

Jesh, almost got killed riding the bus today. Okay, exageration, but the standard route takes me onto a short freeway, so we were going along at a nice clip, when all of a sudden the driver slams on the brakes! I'm standing and damn near pull my arm from out of its socket! The spot is where the road forks off for cars to either exit off the the left or go straight. Well looks like some cyclist decided to cross the road and took his sweat time about it. And cyclist is using a really nice term. I got a real good look at him and man I just wanted to pound the guy. Oh yeah, this was one of those extra long busses, that articulate at the centre, so lots of inertial there.
Rick, thanks for the tip. I think the Dell I'm looking at does, HW decoding for dvd as it's got the ATI Rage chip for video, for sound I don't think they are advertising software decoding for sound. That is, it's got a SB Pro compatible voic and music sound card and an ESS Maestro 3i audio chip prvicing 3D positional sound. So can I just buy that PC card and it'll output the DD signal? I guess it should work, as I don't need to process it, that's what my receiver does, cool. Then again, I'll be pretty happy if I can watch a DVD on the laptop. Everything else is extra gravy!
Speaking of which, where did the phrase, 'Everything else is just gravy' come from? I take it to mean that I've got the basiscs and I'm happy and everything else is a bonus that I wasn't expecting. But when you think of it, if I'm having my mashed potato's and Turkey, I want my gravy! If I don't have my gravy, the meal is not complete, I will not be happy. So maybe the saying should go 'Everything else is just extra gravy.'
Yeah, watched a bit of the election coverage, too close to call. Saw somebody appoligizing for projecting Florida as Gore, but was more like Bush. But are there a whole bunch of absentee votes still to count, so it could go either way?

Andrew, now don't go poking holes into Trev's speakers as well ;) The Tempest is an excellent driver from what I have modeled, so long as you place it in a big enclosure. The Stryke apparently performs the same in a smaller enclosure. It's comes down to what a persons goals and expectations are, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the Twin Servos.
Granted, I have not heard a water heater with a 15" driver, so my basis may be very limited, but I find it hard to believe you could better 2 servo 15's with a single driver in SPL and bass response, unless you hit it with a kilowatt of power. Even then you will be limited by how much power the driver can handle in that typical alignment and tuning. Plus, it will still be the flabby bass of a ported design vs the tautness of the sealed servos (and 2 of them at that). Looking for more bass than 2 servos in a regular room is just over the edge and being fanatical, unless you have a room that is huge and really want to beat your body up with low frequencies (Ok, what's my point? I know.... shut-up Bing!)
Anyway, it's pointless to theorize here, this is the place for chit chat. Your more then welcome to come over and be in awe at my Stryke (if I get one) or poke holes in my Infinity (if I don't). After your done, we'll go over to Trev's and poke holes into his speakers as well :B It'll be a hoot!
Paul, those darn cyclist! ;)
Maybe the term for it's all Gravy means that you can eat the meat with out and it will be good, it's just better with gravy, or the added EXTRA subtance, like gravy.

I wasn't trying to say that the twin servo's wouldn't sound amazing...I have always been impressed with Jay's single servo and I've heard dual servos before and it litterally knocked the wind out of me;) The fact remains though that since they are servo controled they won't go as low and as loud as a big sonotube sub since the limiters will kick in and subdue the servo's...it may not distort as much (if at all) and may sound better but on the SPL meter the sonosub may be louder down deep. Above 30 though I would think the servo's would stomp the sonosubs to bits and frankly thats were most of the DVD bass is anyway.
BTW if you ever get the impression I'm trying to put down anyone elses gear just ignor me, in all likely hood I'm not unless its a bose product:)

The Toy Story 2, title fly in damn near exploded my sub with 700 watts. Good thing I was quick on the volume control. Rick, I see, I think. Well the portable is for "work" but spending a few dollars more to ensure that you can play dvd's is well worth it, in fact Dell is having a special where they will included a DVD drive as long as you buy before Friday. So I don't have too much time to decide. Anybody have any experience with IBM or Acer? The Acer may be an option as I can buy in town and feature wise is pretty close to the Dell, plus like I said, I would be able to buy from a local vendor, who's been pretty good to us. Only thing is that the Acer looks pretty boring. There's a cheaper IBM that may do the job, just add some ram and it'll be under 3K, but the screen is only 12" versus 14" for the Acer and Dell. I've pretty much ruled out the Sony's, and the Compaq's, can't stand their proprietary stuff lots of problems with servers and like in the past, HP's, at least the ones I played with last night, I couldn't adjust the contrast/brightness very easily. So Thurs night will be a laptop shopping night, see what's available in town. The IBM T series looks cool, but way too pricey.

You could call Dell and ask if it is the software DVD. In there list of the Inspiron 3800 the promo value of the DVD is listed as $250.00. In the drop down menu lower down on the option list the software DVD player is listed at $249.00 so it's probably the same one but, I'd phone and ask.
Time to go home! :) Bought Titan AE and Frequency today! Maybe a movie tonight. :)
Good night!

GREAT news!
Ok, one of the problems I've been having with my living situation is the amount of space. I have a futon, my complete home theater setup including software, my planes, my computer, and my fishtank in my ROOM right now, and it's not a large room at that. As you can imagine that makes for some irritation and what-not.
So we all decided to move, and found a PERFECT house! I know the area well, and it's a good part of town. ALL new appliances, great carpet, decent sized backyard, CLEAN house, PLENTY of storage area, as well as a place for me to build things (ie planes and HT speakers). But here's the best part:
I get the entire downstairs which includes a bedroom, an OFFICE, my own bathroom, a LIVING room complete with fireplace big enough to fit my home theater and still have room, a bunch more room! I get my own floor! I can have people over to watch movies now and not have them think I'm trying to hit on them (by having my HT in my room). Tons of space, tons of CLEAN space, tons of comfortable clean space! ;) AND the best part is my rent will be the SAME I pay now for a 10 by 10 room! Isn't that a SWEET deal?!
We move in December 8th, and I seriously cannot wait. I'm going to have to make a countdown page for this, heh! I'll even be able to get a BIG fish tank now, and still have a ton of room! Man I'm excited. The one thing that's been affecting my mood will now be a hell of a lot better. I won't feel so cramped!
I'll get pictures as soon as I possibly can! :)
Whoo hoo!!!

Hello Everybody!!
It definatley was cold this morning. I have to buy some new mits, practically froze my fingers driving to work this morning. Didn't even realize that it was -20 degrees until it was mentioned on the radio.
Rick,,I knew you could not hold off too much longer,,Especially with Christmas around the corner.Anyways, gear that is older than 6 months should be upgraded. I think you should upgrade, you deserve it. Then keep me in mind when you have to sell your old gear.:D
Bing,,I am looking forward to our HT meet..Can't wait to hear your system. I can always bring over one of my Servo's too, if you want to do a comparison..That's as long as nobody pokes a hole in it.:)
Joey,,Great news on the new house,,probably a little more exciting than getting new gear.;),,Actually I remember our first home in Brandon, MB..It was like a dream come true and a gateway to freedom.

Howdy all...
First of all, congrats to Joey6P on your new pad! :) Now that you have all sorts of space, you're gonna want a bigger TV! I'd say a 65-inch widescreen would be just perrfect! heh heh :B
The BFD's EQs only go down to 20hz. It passes anything below unaffected (no subsonic filtering), though i bet a slope on a filter set to 20hz would go below. But there's no way to attenuate everything under 15hz, for example.
Pl@: Note that bridging doubles the minimum speaker impedance that the amp can handle. If the amp can handle a 4-ohm load unbridged, it'll only handle 8 ohms bridged. To bridge a 4-ohm load, the amp will need to be stable down to 2 ohms.
Now for me... my birthday is coming up very soon (like this weekend), I have a $25 gift certificate at Tweeter, what should I buy? I've been toying with getting a home MiniDisc deck (Sony MDS-JB940). The DVP-S9000ES would be a great present, but I'm waiting on getting a progressive player until this SACD vs. DVD-A thing shakes itself out, and to see if one comes along that adequately addresses the lock-in-full-mode issue on my TV.
That's it for now... see ya... KJP

Oh that Dell 8000 is looking pretty sweet! I can get a Cel 600 with 128MB Ram, 14" tft screen, 16MB Video, 5G HD, 8x DVD drive, built in 56K modem and 10/100, Win ME and Office 2k, 3yr next day service for 2949+ship+taxes. Plus it's got S-Video and the S/PDIF out, and some Harmon Karadon built in speakers. If you want to take a look, you have to use the E-Value Code: 83383 LC60XJ. This unit is a bit bigger than the 4000.
I still have a fear of mail ordering something this expensive.
I'm also looking at the Acer 521TXV which I can get locally for about 2875+taxes. It's a PIII600, 64MB ram, 8MB video, 14" tft screen, 6G HD, 6X dvd, int 56k and 10/100, with Win ME and Works. There's a promo for a free 64M ram upgrade, one of those mail in type deals. No S-video out. Only thing with this is my dealer doesn't have the in stock, but can get one in pretty fast. I'm going to see if I can look at one in person tonight at Futureshop or Office depot, etc.

Good Evening Everybody!
Paul,,I think your better off with the Dell Laptop. It would be a solid unit with high quality components and I am sure is blazingly fast,,especially with a 16 meg video card(thought 8 meg was the max)..As for Acer,,I think they are a low brand company and use cheaper low quality components when they build their computers,,probably comparable to the Sony VAIO.
My Sony laptop is a 300 MHZ PII,,and I will tell you my Dell 266 MHZ PII blows the Sony away in both speed and performance..I was shocked at the difference.
Bing,,Stay away from Digital Cable..definately not up to standard..DSS is much better quality.
Found it too cold with the wind so decided to hold off on the hanging of the Christmas lights and decided to watch the 'Titan A.E.' DVD this afternoon. Well it would not load on my Toshiba 3108. I went to the HTF to post this and found that other 3108 owners had the same problem as well and also with the 'American Beauty' DVD plus 'MI2' DVD..I had bought the MI2 on Tuesday so I tried it and the same thing..would not load!!..I am now with out a DVD player since I took it to a Toshiba repair shop to get the 'Firmware' upgrade that is needed to fix this problem..It could be a couple of weeks before I get it back..So I headed over to Audio Warehouse to buy a Pioneer Elite DV-37,,but they didn't have any in stock.
Thank God for Laserdisc. This is what we will be watching for the next little while unless the DV-37 becomes available.
Anyways Titanic DTS is on the list of movies to watch tonight.
Happy upcoming Birthday Kevin!

Nice running flip there Trev. If I wasn't so busy printing out a review of the Dell, I would have noticed. :) Looked around tonight, couldn't find an Acer, but looked at an IBM and a Compaq. Both were not as full featured as the Dell. Plus my wifes gotten a few good experience stories from work on the Dell's. So it looks like a Dell. Just have to decide which one, prob the 8000.
So what games did you get with the PS2? Tried to play any DVDs yet?

Paul, the wait is worth it for the Dell. You will save those 9 days the first time you don't have to take it in for repairs, like you would with the Acer or Sony.
Jehan, keep us informed on the HTF get together.
Gregg L, you too. Wish I was going...

Hi guys... sounds like the Dell laptops are the thang... too bad I can't afford one (yet).
Trev... Titanic DTS has an awesome soundtrack from what I've read. And it's a favorite in the Patz household (though I don't have the DTS LD--only the DD LD and DD DVD). You won't miss the DVD player for the 3 hours 20 minutes those LDs are playing. I saw a DV-37 at Tweeter last night, it was a nice looking machine. I can't wait to see a Sony S9000ES in person, the pics look way cool.
I'm still not sure if I am going to buy myself a new toy for my birthday or not... part of me says get a MD deck, and the other part of me says, save the money, a MD deck won't let me do anything I can't already do (since I can record MDs on my portable). The deck would merely be a convenience. Also, when I was at Tweeter last night I inquired about the Sony MDS-JB940 and they said they won't be getting them until around Xmas. They did have the 930 though, for the same price. I was hoping they would have marked down the 930 since it's being replaced. So I'm thinking I should wait for the 940 or see if I can get a 930 cheaper elsewhere.
Or maybe I should just skip getting the MD deck entirely and save the money toward a new Dell laptop... or a Pioneer DV-37... or a Sony DVP-S9000ES... or... ;)

Paul,
Glad to hear you've made your choice on the new laptop, you'll be happy with it.
Pat,
I'm looking forward too hear what you think of the new amp. I see your coming up on the senior's pension plan. :)
Jehan,
Have a good time at the HTF meet.
Kevin,
I have the Sony 9000 on order, and am looking forward to the audio capability. I wonder if it will pass 96/24 without down conversion like the 7700. It will pass 96/24 through analog connection only.
Do you guy's think that I should be looking at LD player's at this time? I have no software or have never been down the LD road..... :?

I finally got my flared port kit from Dan "The Man" Wiggins yesterday. I'll probably start cutting up a port hole in my Sunosub III bottom endcap this weekend. I'll have to shave off some of the port extender so that I get my final length of 22" for the tune.
I thought the Titanic dts LD's soundtrack was better than the Titanic DD DVD's soundtrack. I felt like I was in that boat with the dts version.
Looks like a blustery weekend ahead.
Yes, the election mess is really pathetic. They are opening up Pandora's Box with this whole situation.
Someone said that they should have made the voting ballot in the form of a Bingo score sheet. :D
Ok, enough poli-talk.
Not sure if I'll stay away from seeing either of the lackluster movies being released this weekend, Little Nicky or The Red Planet. Both have been panned universally.

Good Morning Everybody!!
Nice light snow here this morning..Got to love it.
Paul,,good decision on the DELL..I have owned Dell computers since my very first one in 94'. Dell keeps up with the fast changes of the computer technology and always use the 'new' highest quality components as they become available. Their computers are built for the best possible performance and usually put the competition to shame.Which ever one you get will be a speed demon.:)
As for the P2,,I rented NHL 2001 and the Summoner. NHL 2001 is pretty good,,I just have to get used to using the controller and learning what button does what..So used to the key board so there is a learning curve here for me.
Jehan,,That Wallflowers concert would have been a good one to see. Great band.
Enjoy your get together tomorrow with the boys..Say HI to Jay Mitchosky,Gregg Loewen and Steven Simon for me..3 guys I keep close contact with.
Joey,Andrew,Lexman..Any plans on preparing a HTG Forum meet in the future?? Or a TTP meet...Where's the T-shirts?:)
Kevin,,I agree the Titanic DTS track is excellent..We only had time to watch the first disc..I was sure glad to get this one, especially since only 2,800 of the DTS version were pressed..This one is rare.
What is so special about the Sony 9000 DVD player..I haven't heard much about it, but realize it's highly anticipated. Should I hold off on the DV-37 and see what is so special about the Sony..Rick has one ordered!!
Rick,,I just got into Laserdisc in Janauary and mainly for the titles that are not on DVD..
I have 40 DTS Laserdiscs...some of these are now on DVD but not in DTS..the picture quality on the DTS lasers is very good,,Bing can vouch for that.As good as a non- animorphic DVD.
Here are some of my special titles and the reason I am hanging onto this format.
Star Wars Trilogy
Star Wars Trilogy S.E.
TPM
Forest Gump
E.T. Box set
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Lion King Box set
Back to the Future
Beauty and the Beast
Bambi
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Casper
DTS Titles including The Crow,Crimson Tide,Con-Air ,Volcano,LKG,The Rock,Blade, Speed,Frightners, Armageddon, Die Hard 1 and 2. Titanic etcc..
Some titles that were exclusive a while back but did make it to DVD are..ID4 DTS..Braveheart. Jurassic Park and Toy Story DTS...So you can see there are still a lot of excellent titles that are still exclusive to Laserdisc.
Patman,,The Little Nicky movie seems to be quite silly ..I would wait for the DVD next month.;)
Lexman,,How about sharing that password for that FUN secret place..Hey,,What could be more fun than the TTP..
Later..

That would be a long sprint for a flip! :) I'm going to check around for pricing on LD players. The spec's on the new Sony DVP-S9000ES (http://www.sony.ca/products/details.html?sect=consumer&catid=dvd&subcatid=dvd_singledvdplayers&prodid=dvps9000es) are very good! But, it looks like it's going to be hard to get a hold of these for awhile.
Andrew,
I don't have anything in that price range. Sorry I couldn't help out.
Movie night tonight. :) Titan AE & Frequency

deal of the day...as you may know I've been looking for a cheap receiver to give to my sister for christmas to replace the old one that just died. Well a friend and I trailed all over winnipeg today looking for a bargin in the pawn shops but all we really found was over priced junk. So off to the real AV stores to see the new toys (drool) and as a last resort we tried Future Shop. Well low and behold there on the clearance rack was an RCA 5220P DVD player. No remote, box, power cable, or anyother type of cable...no price listed. So we flag down a sale drone and inquire about it. Next we drag in a manager and he ask's what I'd be willing to pay so I quote him $150 Cdn ($100USD) incl tax. Well much to my surprise he comes back and say sold:) The power cable was $4 from wall mart, universal remotes are cheap and I've got more then enough cables lying around so there's there xmas gift. Her stereo does work its mainly the CD player thats stopped so she can use this as the CD and DVD player. I can't wait to give it to her and her fiancee...in the meantime I have to make sure it works properly right LOL

Question for Rick,,
I am still keeping in mind the possibilty of investing in a FPTV. In doing some measuring, I came up with a distance of 16 to 17 feet between from where I could mount a FPTV and set a screen..Is this a sufficient distance to make it work ,,If so what type of player and screen size would be suitable? I would assume that a larger distance back would enable a larger screen to be used.
Thanks.

If you have 16ft from lens too screen for a FPTV that will give you the chance to use anywhere from around 80" dia. to 120" screen depending on the projector. My projector is mounted 13ft 5" from the screen and I have about a 106" picture to watch. My sitting position is 17ft from the screen. It looks like your all set to start looking for that FPTV. :) I will be upgrading my projector in the spring to a JVC D-ILA projector.

Hey all!
Nice flipping Trev, 2 in a row!
Too late for thecable boxes... I picked up 2 last week. The main reason I got them is for the Fairchild Asian channel and we got a special deal at work that is not being offered to any one else. 4 free months!
Cable is the only option for we are a 4 TV household, and Christine must have local programing. Looks to be I'll need to redo the Pronto ccf.
Way to go Rick... That 9000es looks to be the ticket.
Trev, you have everything else, i'm surprised you don't have a Progressive DVD :) Say, can you set me up with a PS2?
Seen Charlies Angels, funny, and simple. Didn't seem to hurt nobody, so I'd say not bad. I wonder how may well scream when this comes out on DVD and if it's not on DTS?
Speaking of, I just finished MIB DTS..... What's the big deal with this? I didn't think it had an overly memorable sound track... Nothing spectacular at any rate.
Have a good long weekend canucks, and have a good weekend American friends!

Hello folks..
Bing: I agree about MIB, it was quite dissapointing IMO (the DTS mix).
Trev: I will be sure to say hello to Jay, Gregg, Steve and the others for you.
Since I saw Mi:2, I went on a bit of John Woo tear and have been watching a few of his older movies.. today I went back to Face/Off. Sure, another check your brains at the door - but boy does Woo have style.. I have to hand it to him. On top of that quite an agressive DD 5.1 mix on this bare bones release.
Off to bed a little earlier as Studio Day is in the morn.

I Agree right back with you Jehan. John Woo has style and that's what I like about his movies. MI-2 seems to show case it very well with it's directing, as does Face Off.

I saw Red Planet, and give it a C. I liked the opening space sequences (the DVD will have some nice LFE from it), but the 2nd act is very mediocre (when they are on Mars). The 3rd act was average. I guess my main problem with the film, besides needing the re-writes, was that there was too much deus ex machina, where Houston was the all-knowing bastion of Mars knowledge.
BTW, I did not know how perky Carrie-Anne Moss was until we got to check her out in a white tank top. :D
I checked out out Men of Honor. It's a story of determination and pride. It's based on the story of Carl Brashear, the first black Master Diver in the US Navy. It's not bad, a little long, but Robert DeNiro cracked me up with his cantankerous Master Diver Billy Sunday. Cuba Gooding, Jr. also holds his own as the lead. I give it a B+.
The thing that prevents me from giving it an A is that I never got a feel of who Carl Brashear was, just his accomplishments. I would not be surprised if De Niro gets a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
Little Nicky - strictly a rental, just too disjointed and not really all that funny. There's a few cute gags, but with all the SNL alumni appearances, it had to feel of a SNL skit that went on for 80 minutes too long. I give it a C.

Woa.. just got back from the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal where I had dinner with the HTF folks.
What a great time, both Studio Day and the dinner were lots of fun. Got to meet everyone, and basically just chatted and had a good time.
Gregg L. was hillarious - very cool guy, both Jay and his wife were very nice, as well as Steve S, Dan B., Jase, RAF, Obi and of course Ron + Parker (and many others). If you guys can you really should try and make it to this event next year.. I for one enjoyed the day. I am sure there will be a big wrap up over on the HTF as well as photos later.
I did pass on greetings from the TTP crew, most were surprised we ever even moved :)
Pat, nice summary of the weekend's movies - I just caught Red Planet and pretty much agree.. slightly better than M2M IMO, but still probably a weak rental at best.
Shame I had to head back early.. work tommorrow :(

Thanks to whoever sent this my way, I think it was Trevor wasn't it? ;)

Moving, there's a certain bitter-sweet thing that goes with it. On one hand, you're going to be somewhere nicer real soon. On the other hand, you look around and your life is in boxes. My room has no decorations, no DD or DTS plaques, no curtains, no Disney statues, no framed Disney artwork, just walls (and holes, heh). See?
http://www.geocities.com/joey6p/hometheater.jpg
For the first time in my life I've had to label boxes. See, before I just picked up everything and move (sometimes from state to state), but now I have boxes that read 'J6P Bedroom', 'J6P Office', and 'J6P Home Theater'. It's nice to know I'll have so many dedicated rooms to myself. This is the first time I've had more than 'a room'.
I went to look for furniture on friday night, another first for me, and found some beautiful leather recliners and couches. Of course, i'm going to spend a little extra money for the center chair, the commander's chair.
The one I'm getting is extremely comfortable, and has a remote that will allow the chair to massage your neck/upper back, your lower back, your butt (not sure why that's there, heh, maybe for long viewings like Braveheart or Das Boot), your thighs, and your calves. And is will massage them with pulses, waves, rolls, etc... It also has a heat button that will heat up any five of those same positions as well. That's what I want, a chair that warms up before you even sit in it, for those cold Colorado nights.
I decided against the chair that had the phone built in as well, though it was a tough decision. How can you resist a chair that has a 'Bat-phone' though? You push a button and it pops up, or even has speaker phone. What other chairs do you know plug into the wall AND the phone? ;) But as tempting as it was to buy the Bat-Chair I decided my money could be better spent on less gimmicky furniture.
I will have seating for eight in my home theater, instead of my previous '3 people unless someone wants to sit on the floor'. Black leather for everything of course. Nothing in my opinion is more comfortable than a black leather couch, the kind that aren't too firm, but don't swallow you whole when you sit in them. I may not have any friends in Fort Collins, but by god if I ever decide to be anti-social/shy and meet some people they'll have somewhere to sit ;)
Can I show you guys pictures of the house here and there? I'm just really excited about it and want to share this adventure with everyone :) God bless digital cameras ;)
Well, off for now, gotta go find some paint to match my walls and some putty, have a lot of holes to fill ;)
Take care guys!
Greg, the 80's discs were my pleasure, I wanted everyone on the TTP to have something in common, and maybe TTP shirts should seriously be made? I'd be more than happy to work on that if everyone would like one :) Thanks again for your help on the satelite dish stuff :)

Trev's on a flipping rampage! Watchout any and all snipers.
Joey, I can just picture you in the comander's chair, pronto in hand. Engage! Make it so! All you need now is a progressive scan juke box dvd player, then you'll never have to get off that chair. I think I know what to get you for Xmas, a box of Depends! :)
Seriously, I'm just getting excited that you've found a great place, do show some pictures when you get the time to take some. Your old room is looking pretty bare. Less than a month till the move. Don't get too carried away with those furniture purchases! You know it's okay just to buy your commander's chair and have everybody else sit on some cushions! Cheaper that way, and heaven forbid if you had to move to a smaller place you might be forced to sell your furniture! Just a thought. I hope I'm not being a party pooper. Just don't want to see you stuck paying for furniture you no longer have! I don't know maybe it's just me, but I really think you should payoff that debt before you buy tons of furniture, just to furnish your floor.

Joey - no problem on the satellite info, glad to help you any way I can after you did so much on the 80's collection.
Jehan - glad you had a good time, we have to all think seriously about a get together next year, maybe just a TTP get together. Have many spare bedrooms do you have? ;) ;)
I think TTP shirts would be a hoot. Maybe someone with PhotoShop can experiment with some cool graphics and then we could all vote??
Another rainy day here in Texas, might just freeze tonight. Talk about bad drivers here in ice, it is unbelievable. We never get ice, so no one is used to it. Tomorrow a lot of calls may sound like "Thanks for calling Allstate, how can I help you?" :)
Hope everyone is having a great Sunday.

Worked on Sunosub III today now that I got the Precision Port (flared) from Dan Wiggins last week. I routed small holes through each of the bottom endcap layers of MDF. You'd think that wouldn't take long, but it's a chore due to making sure the holes would be of the right size and in the right location on the endcap layers. Now I've glue both layers together, and have a bunch of weight on the endcap, so I may be able to start painting the outer bottom endcap tomorrow.
Joey, moving day is always a melancholy day for me. Thank goodness it only happens a couple of time per decade for me.

PICTURES of the house, of my nephew, my job, and a hockey game!
Yeah, unfortunately I'm going to be getting a piece of furniture at a time :( I really just wanted room for my family to use when they came over to watch movies. Found a REALLY cool set for around $900 that included a sleeper couch, a loveseat, a chair, all of the pillows, AND an ottoman! Pretty good deal! Mandi and I are going to budget for it though. until then anyone wanna come over and see my setup on one of my luxurious folding chairs? ;)
Picked out some good stuff though, nice looking, and don't worry, nothing too crazy, heh. Can't wait to get everything though, it's going to be such a comfortable place!

Maybe that's why it's hard to remember, because it doesn't sound at ALL like what it is ;) It sounds more like the tight-rope act that toured with the original Barnum and Bailey Circus, "Ladies and Gentlemen...may I direct your attention to the wire 100 feet above the ground, Where the famous Zamboni brothers will attempt to cross the tight-rope, completely drunk off their *ss!!!" ;)
Or was it named after the Manificent Zamboni, a magician who became famous with his "sawing a woman in two act" until a jealous magician replaced his trick blade with a black and decker body-wrecker, ending his career once and for all.
Who the heck named it a Zamboni anyways? ;)

Just finished watching "Das Boot" Wow! I forgot what a great show this was....
I had to rent it after talk that U-571 did not match it for sound and bass. I would have to agree, the surround and bass was excellent and powerfull! The depth charging was not as firocious and deep as U-571, but overall I think the bass is much more powefull in Das boot. I actually did not mind the picture as well, it was said that the picture was not that great, I would have to disagree on that.
Looks like another must add to my collection.

Anyone watch X-Files last night? Here's my views and questions:
I've been adding 30 minutes to the VCR timer recording for Sunday shows (like Ed and X-Files - on 2 different VCRs).
It was a weird X-File episode conclusion (I think the main thrust was to stick Doggett on the X-Files with Scully. Scully is a woman on a mission! And I like that tight white top she was wearing. :D She looked pretty messed up after the fight with the alien dude.
I think Gibson Praise nailed it when he said "You're so close" to Scully w/r/t Mulder. It was a double entendre where I believe he's saying that Mulder and Scully got "close" and this may very well make Mulder the father of Scully's baby, and that Mulder is really near their location in the desert.
Does the alien bounty always stays mute until he absolutely has to say something (like when he was disguised as Scully, ran into a room and came back as another FBI agent but with blood on his fingers)?

Nice pictures of the family. If your interested in the projector just let me know. I'm kinda interested to see what the Sony DVP-S9000ES will look like on the projector, since I'm already driving it at it native resolution 600P. The Sony is 480P. Maybe I'll hold a TTP get toghether in the future. :) That way we could compare some of the latest equipment.
Bing,
If the bass is better on "Das Boot", I'm going to have to pick it up since I thought U-571 was very good! So, did the people next door. :B
I was out with the wife yesterday shopping for kitchen appliances. Wow! I thought HT gear was expensive, :E ......5K for a fridge, stove and dishwasher!!! Anyway, while at the Brick I wondered over to the HT section. :) The sales manager said they could get the new 9000ES DVD player which I've already ordered, but, if they can get it which I have my doubts, the price may be very good. I'll let you guy's know when I find out a few more details.

Gregg: Very nice meeting you too, was a fun time.. shame I couldn't stay on a bit more.
Pat: The episode last night was indeed very good. I am not sure about the "very close" reference, but it is an interesting possibility :). Back to the regular monster episodes next week but looking forward to see how the mythology takes shape. As for Mulder's torture scenes, I do not believe he is being physically harmed (well the saw in the chest would have hurt wouldn't it? :)), perhaps they are just his dreams (nightmares) as well as Gibson & Scully's? Also, I am just getting used to the idea that Scully has taken over Mulder's role in the whole alien saga... the role-reversal so to speak.
Back to work.. a lot of it at that! :)

Rick,I took the DVD player to Hitek Electronics to get the Firmware upgraded. Would not load up three new DVD's that came out last week..In the meantime I have been researching new Progressive DVD players and was originally interested in the Pioneer DV-37,,but with the new Sony and now I see the Tosh 9200 ..I don't know what to go after..The SD-9200 looks really nice.
Here's a pic:
http://members.home.net/tschell/SD9200.JPG
Cosmetically,,I think the 9200 is a much better build than the Sony. The 9200 also has that brushed finish,,very nice..Although I have no idea how the two compare on performance..which is the most of importance.

Damnit, I can't post from work and it was killing me to watch the flip!!! Heh, I need to get my password as my machine at home inserts it for me, and I have no idea what it is ;) Nice flip Rick!
Next person to flip without my written permission gets their post counter set back to 0 and has to send me a free DVD every month until the next form of HT movie media comes along, agreed? ;)
I will flip, and you will all be amazed...it is has been written, Muahahaha! :B
Cool pics of your kids Trevor! :)
So I missed a test last week, and was supposed to make it up today. But yours truly, being the absolute genius he is shows up at 5PM after work to take it. And wouldn't you know, the test lab closes at, you guessed it, 5PM, killing my chance of making it up. If what I think is going to happen does I will receive an 'F' on it, bringing my grade down to a 'C', which will kill any chance of getting straight A's. I'm going to beg and plead for one more chance. That's right, your humble narrator will be on his knees crying for mercy. God I hope she gives me another chance!
Well, I just consumed four ultra-healthy corn dogs and a handful of pretzels and I'm off to school. I sincerely hope my teacher is in a good mood. "Hey, that's a beautiful jacket, you look very nice tonight...can I retake my test?" ;)

Trevor,
That's a good looking player!
What's the street price on those players? The new Sony is going to be about $1500.00. Thats about $300.00 more than I paid for the Sony DVP-S7700. But, I have to admit I don't know how long I could go without a DVD player! Since buying the 7700 I probably won't be looking at any other brands. It's just been flawless for over a year now.
Joey,
I promise I won't try to flip any more pages until you get your flip in. ;) Did you notice the last four flips all happened at the same time? :B
Best of luck on the test that you will be re taking. :)

Joey, goodluck! That's a real drag.
Rick, it's usually 2 years when the wheels fall off. That's about how long it took my S7000 to screw up on dual layer DVDs. It hasn't seen a DVD in about a year now. But it's still great on CDs:)

Hey Greg,,Which Tosh do you have??
The SD-9200 sure is a beauty,,but what makes it worth $1,999??? Is it going to be much better than the others or even the SD-6200?
Lex,,That sure was a good deal on the SD-9000,wish I could find those types of bargains, especially when a person has to upgrade often to keep up with technology.
NHL 2001 on the P2 is absolutely incredible!,especially on the big screen.

Greg,
Only for you would I scroll through each page of the TTP to find a link for a Pronto deal my friend ;) I finally found it on page 34. Have you guys scrolled though how much stuff we have lately? Eegads we talk a lot!
You can find the Pronto deal HERE, looks like the current price is $249.99, or you can get the GP from Adrian's Home Theater, but you'll have to contact me privately for that one :) It's a little bit more, but you get a lot more :)
Oh, speaking of Prontos, I have an actual remote question! Hypothetically speaking say there's this guy who's into building model planes. Say that same guy has a Pronto. Now, this guy's not too bright and keeps his Pronto on the table while he builds planes, because he's watching a movie while he's doing so. Say hypothetically he gets glue on the screen. Now, since this guy's not the smartest cookie what if he took a blade to the screen to scrape the glue off, but actually scrapes the screen itself. heh, I know, he's an idiot! What are his options? Do they have replacement screens or anything of the sort? If so can you get me any information so I can use...er, so I can pass it on to the idiot so he can use it? :B Much appreciated! Insert heckling here: ____________
Trevor, how's your brother doing these days?
The teacher will let me try again tomorrow ;) Grade saved!

Whoa, Joey! :E That's a drag... If the wealth of knowledge here doesn't know, maybe post it on remote central. But don't tell the whole story, just ask if replacement screens are available.
I have heard of people dropping them and wanting a replacement to which they just replace the whole unit. But this is just the plastic surface.
Thanks for reminding me why I keep my Denon's remote out on my desk at all times :)
I hope your friend can find a cheap replacement...
Rick, you have the nicest flip graphics around.. You must have a reply que'd with the image, waiting for the flip. Snipping you should be considered bonus points ;) Everyone get that??
I propose 3 points awarded for snipping J6P, just because he is the loseingest, get sniped all the time, after making a run for the flip, guy I know :B
And 2 points for sniping Rick, just cause he's got the coolest flips.. and I would like to see them so there is not as much incentive to snipe him over J6P
1 Point for general snipping on the rest of the TTP'ers
"Game On!"
Trev, that Tosh would look good on your equipment rack :B Does it do Super Audio CD? that may be why it cost so much...

Trevor:
One thing to consider with your setup and the DVD players you are considering: they all have differing abilities as far as downconversion is considered.
The Toshiba has the worst the downconversion, with severe jagged edges etc.
The Sony has the best downconversion, with no jaggies, but a much softer image overall, smearing some detail (BTW, I'm going based on previous Sony players, of course the new one may be totally different, but unlikely).
The Pioneer falls somewhere in between. Not nearly as many jaggies as the Toshiba, but not a soft image like the Sony.
People's ability to put up with downconversion artifacts varies, so you will want to audition each player individually.

Trevor, thanks. Yes, it was an outstanding deal at a time when I was desperate for a "great" player. My Sony began to crap out on dual layer discs really REALLY bad. I had the Panisonic A110. But honestly, it just didnt' quench my thirst for high end DVD at all. I didn't have the 301 disc Elite changer then, so that didn't enter into the equation. I have truly loved the Elite changer, though at the time, financially it wasn't so smart a move. Would I have bought the Tosh, had I known that within 2 months I would buy the changer? I can't say. But it's done, be it good bad, but definitely not the ugly. :B
Jeff, that's a good analysis. I would definitely define my Tosh on the "sharp side". But then, I wouldn't go so far as to call the edges jaggesd. Perhaps it can be player dependent as well, depending upon the adjustments. Mine is bordering on excellent, for a non-progressive image.
The Elite has just as good a picture, but not quite as sharp. I always thought the S7000 was softer than the A110, and as well, obviously softer than the Tosh or Elite.
Andrew, you know I can top your count total with the stroke of a pen, so don't tread on me, lol.

Joey - Sorry about making you scroll through all those pages for the Pronto deal! That is why I asked for the link, as I didn't want to go back through all those pages! Man, we do talk a lot, but there is also some great info/stuff in these pages of ours. Thanks for finding it though, I do appreciate it!
Trev - I have the Toshiba SD1200, very low end, think it cost about $220 US, but I am very happy with it. Had it since June, with a May 2000 manufacture date. Has not had one problem, even on the dual layered discs or the disc from Total Movie. Works like a charm. I don't ever see jagged edges, just a clean, sharp picture. But I also don't go and try newer high end models out, cause then I get the upgrade bug. So until this unit gives me a reason to look elsewhere, it is staying right where it is.
Rick - excellent flip!
